Passive Income Essentials
Securing your financial future doesn’t have to mean working endless hours. Smart passive income strategies can unlock a world where earnings grow even as you sleep. There’s a wealth of options out there — each with its unique strengths. To navigate this domain, understanding the basics and choosing the right streams is vital.
Demystifying Passive Income
Passive income often seems shrouded in mystery. Many people wonder if it’s a practical goal. In essence, it’s earning money from investments or work you’ve done once. This could mean rental income, dividends, or sales from an e-book. Distinct from active income, it requires less time to manage daily.
Purchase and rent out property
Invest in dividend-paying stocks
Create digital products for sale
It’s about smart choices now for long-term benefits. For the ideal start, assess the potential risks and returns of each option.
Financial Stability Through Passive Streams
Passive income is more than just extra cash. It’s a step toward lasting financial safety. The goal is to create multiple income sources that can support your lifestyle, even if you stop working. Diversification is key — spreading your investments across different areas reduces the risk.
Type of Passive Income Benefits Real Estate Steady income and property value growth Stocks with Dividends Regular income plus potential stock value increase Creating an Online Course Earn with each new student enrollment
Review these options to align with your life goals and economic situation. Start building that foundation for a more secure and sustained income stream today. Remember, the path to financial freedom involves planning and the savvy generation of earnings on the side. Get started, and watch your financial health flourish over time.
Diving Into The Stock Market
Exploring the stock market opens up a world of possibilities for passive income. It’s a tried-and-true approach that savvy investors leverage for long-term financial gains. You don’t need to be a Wall Street expert to get started. With the right strategy, anyone can tap into this lucrative avenue.
Dividend-yielding Stocks
Dividend-yielding stocks stand out as a solid option for passive income. They pay out a portion of profits to shareholders regularly. This means you earn money simply for owning the stock. Consider these key points:
Choose companies with a history of stable dividends.
Look for those with potential for dividend growth.
Reinvest dividends to compound your earnings.
Index Funds & Etf Portfolios
Index funds and ETFs offer a more hands-off investment approach. They track specific market indices and spread your investment across numerous stocks. This leads to a balanced and diversified portfolio. Here’s why they’re advantageous:
Lower fees: Expense ratios are typically minimal with index funds and ETFs.
Automatic diversification: Instant exposure to a variety of assets helps mitigate risk.
Simplicity: They’re easy to purchase, making them ideal for first-time investors.

Rental Properties Revenue
Rental properties can turn a tidy profit monthly. Location is everything, so choose areas with growth potential. Starting can be more hands-on, but many opt for management services to handle day-to-day tasks. Here’s why rentals rock:
Steady Cash Flow: Monthly rent payments go straight into your pocket.
Tax Advantages: Deduct property expenses from your income.
Appreciation Over Time: Rentals can increase in value, boosting your net worth.
Your investment in real estate can grow with careful planning. Understanding the market helps ensure success.
Real Estate Investment Trusts (reits)
REITs are powerful for portfolio diversification. They allow small investors to earn from large real estate ventures without owning the properties themselves. Stock-like ease with real estate rewards! Key REITs facts include:

How to Make F*ck You Money Using Your 8th House💸
Tumblr media
Let's talk about F you money...the kind of money that buys freedom, power, peace, and the ability to say "no" without guilt. The kind of money that screams main character energy. And guess what? Your 8th house holds the key.
The 8H in astrology rules over shared resources, passive income, investments, inheritance, $ex work, shadow work, transformation, power dynamics, and yes...BIG MONEY. Think generational wealth, not just what's in your checking account.

Tumblr media
Step 1: What Sign is on Your 8th House Cusp?
This shows the vibe of how you handle money from others, investments, and power. Here's the tea:
Aries -> You get big money by taking bold risks, being first, and having a boss b*tch attitude. Crypto? Only if you're first. Entrepreneurship? Yes ma'am.
Taurus -> You attract wealth through luxury, patience, and beauty. Real estate, slow investments, sugar baby vibes. Rich auntie/uncle energy.
Gemini -> You get paid to talk, think, or write. Digital assets, intellectual property, courses, or content that keeps paying you forever.
Cancer -> Wealth from family, real estate, and emotional labor. Generational wealth, healing work, or investing in homey assets.
Leo -> Fame, visibility, and charisma = money. Your presence alone is profitable. Passive income through fans, royalties, and performance.
Virgo -> You monetize your skills, routines, and healing abilities. Systems, services, editing, health and wellness work, and digital products.
Libra -> You attract wealth through beauty, relationships, and luxury. Partnerships, sugar daddies, aesthetic businesses, or passive fashion income.
Scorpio -> Powerhouse. You were born for F you money. Wealth through mystery, sex work, investments, and deep transformation. You can flip pain into profit.
Sagittarius -> Money through teaching, publishing, and going global. Travel content, spiritual coaching, or international biz? Goldmine.
Capricorn -> You build wealth over time. Passive income from systems, institutions, or your own empire. Think CEO bag.
Aquarius -> You make money through innovation and being ahead of your time. Tech, astrology, community platforms. Viral = income.
Pisces: Dreamy dollars. You remake money in mysterious or spiritual ways. Art, music, dreams, healing, even OnlyFans.
Step 2: What Planets Are in Your 8th House? (Your Superpowers)
Each planet here tells you how you make that boss-level, passive, transformative money.
Sun: Your power and identity are tied to your ability to accumulate and manage wealth. You're meant to live off royalties or investments. Your legacy pays your bills.
Moon: You intuitively attract wealth. Cyclical income. You can profit from nurturing, healing, or female dominated spaces. Wealth may come through family or emotional work.
Mercury: You write, speak, or strategize your way to money. Stock tips, intellectual property, or sharing taboo knowledge. You make $$$ from secrets.
Venus: You're literally made to attract luxury and resources. Sugar baby potential, creative investments, passive income from beauty or love-based businesses.
Mars: You hustle for that money. Sex work, bold business moves, and aggressive investing can be major wins. You thrive in high stakes financial spaces.
Jupiter: F*ck you money is your birthright. You naturally expand and attract wealth often through spiritual wisdom, teaching, or blessings from others.
Saturn: You build wealth slowly, but it's unshakeable. Passive income through discipline, real estate, legacy building, or authority in your field.
Uranus: Sudden windfalls, viral moments, and unconventional income streams. You were born to break the rules and still get paid. Internet wealth = chef's kiss.
Neptune: Spiritual, artistic, or mystery money. Think music royalties, dreams turned into passive profit or even hidden/inherited wealth. Trust your intuition.
Pluto: You're a financial powerhouse. You attract wealth through transformation, shadow work, or high stakes environments. Sex, death, taxes? You run it.
North Node: Your destiny is to become wealthy through other people's money, deep transformation, or taboo topics. Follow the path of power.
South Node: You've already mastered wealth in a past life; now you're learning to share it or evolve past it. Don't cling to scarcity.
Chiron: You've been wounded by money, sex, or power...but healing these wounds makes you RICH. You can guide others through their darkness and get paid for it.
Tumblr media
Your 8th house is your wealth witch zone. It's not your salary...it's what keeps the money coming while you sleep. Use your placements to tap into wealth that's bigger than you, tied to transformation, and often a lil taboo.
You don't just make F you money; you embody it.

synopsis. Natalie Schumacher is fast, fearless, and absolutely sick of being told she’s lucky. Being the daughter of a legend, she’s been branded “Formula 1 royalty” since she first entered this world as a small newborn.
Enter: Max Emilian Verstappen. Two-time world champion. A God on the track and a mess of contradictions off it--infuriating, electrifying, and raw in a way she just can't shake. At once, his rootlessness upends her routine. And, unfortunately, he is very loud about the fact that he thinks she doesn’t belong.
Max can’t stand Natalie. Not because she’s slow.. she isn’t. And it’s not because she’s soft. If anything, she races like a live wire. No, Max Verstappen hates Natalie Schumacher because she walks around with everything he never had: friends who love her before the podiums, a brother who’d throw punches in her defense, a family whose shadow feels like a blanket of protection, not pressure. She’s surrounded by warmth. But Max? He grew up in an icy cold tundra.
What do you do with feelings you didn’t plan for? What happens when the person you were raised to beat is the one who finally sees you for who you are?
status. on-going, i will try to update every tuesday, however i am writing this as i post, so updates may be slow as i want to properly depict the story i have in my head.
tags. female original character, misogyny and toxic masculinity (F1-typical), a lot of cussing, depictions of mental health issues (post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, bipolar, anxiety), depictions of childhood trauma, slow burn, NSFW themes (eventual smut? who knows..), references to past abuse and assault (physical, mental, sexual in reference to children and adults), abusive relationship in a romantic setting, mentions of michael schumacher’s accident, Max and Natalie are dicks!
Chapters will be marked accordingly. Please read before proceeding and exercise appropriate reader discretion.
DISCLAIMER. This is a work of fanfiction. I obviously do not own FORMULA 1 or any other forms of intellectual property. I do, however, own the original characters of this novel (Natalie Schumacher), as well as the plot lines and the writing itself. Some aspects are semi-based on true events following the 2023 season, but this is overwhelmingly a work of pure fanfiction and is far detached from reality. Additionally, there will be comments made for the sake of this fanfiction that I don’t believe the drivers would ever make. Do not let this story reflect your image on them. Please do not copy, redistribute, plagiarize, or translate this work under any circumstances.
• • • PLEASE DON'T BE A SILENT READER! I love seeing feedback and reactions. It really motivates me as a writer! I hope you enjoy 'You're So Vain.' Thank you for taking the time to read.

BREAKING: new records expose that Planned Parenthood will sell body parts from healthy, viable babies to universities for intellectual property.
youtube
In a batch of freshly released FOIA documents, journalist David Daleiden of the Center for Medical Progress has pieced together a horrifying reality: Planned Parenthood harvests organs from viable, nonanomalous fetuses with documented heartbeats from abortions with labor induction for research at the University of California San Diego in exchange for IP rights. In other words, PP dissects healthy premies who are old enough to live outside the womb after making sure they are alive and delivering them intact, per their contract with UCSD, in which PP gets to keep all royalties for patents developed from experiments. And the Spanish-speaking mothers didn't give informed consent to this. In other words, and they prey on vulnerable minorities for their babies.
How do I know this is true? It's because I am the associate reporter in this video, and David emailed me the documents to read for myself.
Evidence includes:
Transfer agreement outlining the exchange of fetal tissue for ownership of research IP
Research plan approved by the UCSD Institutional Review Board requesting organ samples from nonanomalous fetuses up to 23 weeks gestation (that's nearly 6 months old; periviability begins at 21 weeks)
Same research plan calling for verification of a heartbeat immediately before the procedure to ensure the fetuses are living (this keeps their tissues fresh; the fetuses cannot be given a feticide to "euthanize" (poison) them before the procedure, because this would contaminate the tissues; this means the fetuses are either bled out or dismembered alive)
Did I mention this plan calls for up to 2,500 samples from 2,500 fetuses?
Email chain discussing the use of heavy doses of misoprostol before abortions after 12.5 weeks (forces labor contractions to deliver the baby — may result in live birth)
Donation consent forms in English which state the tissue may be used commercially, but in Spanish exclude this info entirely (San Diego has a large immigrant population, so this is racist targeting)
No, I cannot say for certain that PP actually did cut up healthy premies. But I am saying, it is documented that they were willing to do so, and that should be enough to cause alarm.
Protecting premature infants is a nonpartisan human rights issue. Everyone should be outraged about this violation of the vulnerable.
I've had folks suggest to me before that this is just a few "bad actors", but they're missing the bigger picture of how the abortion industrial complex enables these crimes. It is a natural outcome of the system, and it must be dismantled. You cannot permit elective abortion without permiting violence against premature infants. Tell your representatives to divest from Big Abortion NOW.

hogwarts legacy pride week: die mad about it
greetings, this is quick lee. I've seen that my pals and comrades have been brigaded by sad, pathetic people who refuse to get off their high horses. so, let me clear a few things up and give some reminders.
(1) Liking a piece of media should NOT be construed as support of the author.
Because it's simply not the same thing. I don't know how to break this down any further. It's called having nuance and critical literacy skills. This is not even in defense of the "problematic fave". JKR is no one's fave. but there are some good things you can come away from her literature with. and if you're too narrow-minded to admit that, then… have fun censoring and killing literature lol.
(2) Chasing queer people out of the HP/HL fandom is quite literally what JKR wants.
You're doing her dirty work for her. Please read this post by another tumblr user for more. Without any queer people in the HP fandom who are willing to interrogate the text and sit with the uncomfortableness of the literature, JKR will be allowed to continue her reign of terror. It is only by starting the difficult conversations and acknowledging that JKR is, in fact, an asshat, that we can create a fandom that hates the hell out of her and reclaims the world for our own use. Some of us are unwilling to see the world die a horrid death because its creator is awful.
This video by hbomberguy delves into adapting H.P. Lovecraft for the 21st century. I feel that a lot of this video can be applied to Harry Potter and JKR. I implore you to give it a watch and let me know what you come away with.
You know who you should be railing against? The literal bigots in this fandom. There's a lot of them; I've seen them. Instead of kicking the queer fans out, how about you chase the anti-trans and anti-queer people? They aren't quiet about it.
(3) caring about JKR is a rather Western perspective.
Yes, JKR is doing real harm with her legislation. Your average US/UK queer fan is aware of this. Guess what? You can hold more than one thing in your head at the same time! Wild, I know. See point 1.
But, a lot of countries outside the US or the UK don't give a shit who she is or know much about her bigotry because it doesn't affect them or they don't speak English or they don't know. It reeks of r/USdefaultism energy to assume everyone knows what you know and everyone should do what you do. News flash, anyone outside of the US/UK can't do shit about what JKR's doing. Why the fuck are you stopping them from FREELY (read: without profiting JKR) interacting with the intellectual property (IP)? Do you realize what a waste of time this is? If you're recycling tired talking points and you don't live in the US/UK… dude, go find better use of your time.
(4) Creating fanwork does not equal "promoting" the game.
Many people read fanfic or look at fanart/edits instead of interacting with the canon work. There is an assumption that seeking fanwork means they will seek out the original media as well. This is not the case, a lot of the time, and no one considers fanwork promotion of the original text. Fanwork is inherently derivative, and both the creator and consumer is aware of that.
My friends and I frequently shit-talk the game. But the blandness of the plot and the characters is what makes a great canvas to impart our own perspectives, ideas, goals. The rules of the world are malleable in the best way. Same with the original Harry Potter world as well. It's a blank canvas, and that means it has great potential to be molded into whatever anyone wants. We have the right to take what we want to keep from JKR's IP. Again, see the hbomberguy video for more on this point.
Not to mention, Harry Potter has been a mainstay in Western media (and even non-Western media) for decades. I promise you that our fanwork is not convincing anyone to go out and buy the game.
(5) Yes, the game was financially backed by JKR and she receives royalties from it. No one is denying this fact.
However, there are literally thousands of other people involved in this game that have explicitly stood against JKR's bigotry, and they deserve to have their work celebrated too. Not to mention, a lot of people pirated this game, or bought it secondhand, or waited for the sale, or donated an equal amount to a queer nonprofit. Before you disparage a queer fan for engaging in the world of HP, please ask yourself… what have you done as far as real activism or praxis?
Most fans don't buy anything HP other than this game. In fact, I have said in the past and will continue to say: we don't need to be buying that shit any more. Merch? Books? Other random knickknacks and memorabilia? Don't need it, useless consumerism anyway. But interacting with the IP for free is a whole different thing. You just know it makes JKR mad that a bunch of queers are twisting her work into something better. Enjoy it, lads.
End of the day, you can be a fan of HP IP without putting a single cent into JKR's pocket, or little cents as possible. If at least you are aware of this fact, then move on. There's bigger fish to fry.
(6) Listen, I don't agree with the Bible on a lot, but I like a few of the lines on hypocrisy.
Matthew 7:3–5, NIV:
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
John 8:4–9, NIV:
…and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
I am sure you are actively supporting a shitty person by using social media, or listening to music, or participating in organized religion. Trying to play the Morality Olympics with some hobbyists who want to queer up HP IP as much as possible… is a waste of goddamn time. No one gives a shit that you attacked some queer people. Fat lot of good you've done. Get off your high horse before you are flung off.
Quit being an armchair activist. Go outside and interact with some real life people. Like it or not, Harry Potter is a part of the international lexicon. It's baked into our society. Do you want the fandom to be an accepting community, or do you want to actively usher in yet another un-safe space?
I understand that in the world it is a difficult time right now. A lot of people feel powerless in the face of such outright fascism rearing its head. To the queer people out there, let me remind you—attacking your fellow queers is not the right move. This is what the oppressors want, for us to fight each other instead of collaborating and unifying. You should be directing your energy to assisting your local community, starting conversations about trans rights, standing up for your local trans members, and participating in praxis. If you feel so strongly about this topic, good! I'm glad you feel that way. Go donate your time or resources to a nonprofit—they need your support. Go to protest or riot. Start a coalition. Why tear down a thriving community when you can build up your own?
There is no shame in stepping away from HP because JKR's real life words are too vile for you to consider. But there's also no shame in sticking around in an act of reclamation or spite.
To the queer HL community; thanks for being you. Thank you for having the tough conversations. Thank you for making space. Thank you for being nuanced. Keep up the good work. You're one cool cat.

you don’t feel attached to every song that you write. and most of the time, there’s songs that you scrap for various reasons – the songs you write just to write something, ones that don’t fit on the record that you’re producing or the vibe you’re going for, or the ones that you lockbox into a vault, for your eyes and your eyes only.
at certain times, it was to remind yourself what it feels like to write and flex the muscles associated with it in your brain. just a way to combat writer's block when it plagued you. at other times, the words were pouring out of you, so fast that you felt like your hands couldn’t even keep up with what was spinning through your mind.
some songs were too personal. there was an air to them, something that was being said that you had to keep to yourself, keep buried in your chest because no one was entitled to those thoughts but you.
other songs had no substance at all. filled with embellishment at the very least – just sweet singing and good production in the background. you couldn’t care less about them.
they varied. existed in abundance. and when mimi found out about it, she made a simple proposition that you agreed to, after much discussion.
when you signed on with studio eleven, you made negotiation deals for mechanical and performance royalties for songs that you weren’t too attached to. you gave free reign for other people to take your songs and perform them, change them up a little bit to fit their style, as long as you were still cited as the writer and got money for every time it was performed.
you can still hear mimi’s words in your mind – if you’re doing the work, why not get paid for it?
in the beginning, you felt possessive. that those were your words, and your words only, so why should someone else be entitled to sing them? but as time went on, you became more malleable to giving up control over it and sharing. soft encouraging words from mimi about money, getting on the good side of other creators, mixed in with every other reason that made you sign it all away.
most of the time, it worked out fine. gave a few of the associated signed artists something to perform, to add in the middle of their record, and that put a little bit of money in your pocket.
hell, sometimes you even got credited in award nominations for it.
the current situation that you’re in though, seething over the fact that aimee will be performing this song with jake in two days, is the exact reason you didn’t want to sell your songs.
they’d fall into the wrong hands. they’d be used against you. they wouldn’t be yours anymore, not in the ways that it mattered at least.
the proposition meant that aimee lynch could buy one of your songs – one of the songs that you wrote about jake, with jake – and claim that she was the one who wrote it. that she was the one who wrote it with him.
that the things you wanted to keep close to your chest would be for everyone to listen, interpret, and manipulate. other people could claim your feelings as their own, your thoughts, your words as something that they made out of thin air. something that they felt.
that was the feeling that caused the most anger. the searing pain, that made you see blood red. having something stolen from you. again.
“there has to be some rules about this type of thing. she can’t claim that it’s her intellectual property and say that she wrote it, can she?” eren asks.
mimi shakes her head. after almost an hour and a half of questioning, from three very overbearing and well meaning friends, had fried her brain – you could tell that much.
you suppose that she should count herself lucky that megumi wasn’t able to attend due to his pr events, because without fail, he was always the worst of the bunch. and had a horrendous problem with mincing his words.
“technically, they did credit y/n as one of the writers on the song if you look. i’m guessing that they changed a few lyrics here and there, since aimee and jake are listed as writers too.” mimi responds.
“jake was an original writer on that song. we wrote it together.” you seethe.
that’s the last time you share your songs with anyone.
you can see historia and mikasa exchange a look with one another from the corner of your eye, something you guess is warranted by the vitriol laced in your voice. they were always wary when it came to these types of things, always a little nervous when it came to anger that you held in a reserve, that was almost never ending.
they were shocked at how angry you could get. and while any rational part of your mind would be inclined to take a step back like they suggested, out of good faith of their concern, your anger always won out.
most of the time, it felt like sheer spite was the only thing that kept you going. it was something that worked for you – so why would you do something else?
“she’s allowed to change lyrics that y/n wrote?” mikasa asks.
mimi shrugs.
“it’s kind of murky waters when you take someone’s song as your own. they’re the ones who recorded and produced it, and since they properly credited as they were supposed to, so they can kind of do whatever they want.” mimi responds.
eren groans, pinching the bridge of his nose, as he flops down on the couch next to you.
“we can’t really police what they say. if she wants to say that she wrote the song with jake, there’s nothing that we can really say about that. she’s omitting information, for sure, but we…we can’t do anything about her lying.” mimi states, the tone in her voice final.
“this wasn’t even one of the songs that she decided to sell. jake just handed it over to aimee because she asked, i’m assuming? they don’t have to ask for y/n’s permission?” historia asks.
mimi pauses.
“i’m assuming they got the same patent as the ones for the other songs, someone at the record label must have signed off on giving it up just because they assumed it was one of the scrapped songs. they couldn’t have taken it unless someone signed off on it here.”
you can feel your eye twitch.
“find whoever that is. who signed the song away.” you state.
mimi shoots you one last apologetic smile as she leaves the room, pressing the phone to her ear as she slips through the door, and you sink down into the couch. knowing her, she was going to try her best to do damage control behind the scenes for whoever did sign your song away, just to save face and make sure that someone didn't lose their job.
her immediate retreat is one that sends historia and mikasa to their legs – their hands basically shoving eren to the side as the four of you squish onto the couch, their heads nestled against each of your shoulders.
“what do you think happened? i mean…fully?” mikasa asks, the tone in her voice overexerted with an air of caution.
you sigh. there was always more that met the eye with aimee lynch. things were always perfectly calculated, against your favor, and were never just from a sheer lack of dumb luck like she made it seem.
you learned that the hard way.
“if i’m guessing right, jake must have been really mad when i ended things with him. things were bad for a while and we basically fought the entire time at the end.” you state.
“about?” mikasa asks.
you shrug.
“he’s really good friends with aimee or became really good friends with aimee towards the end of our relationship. seems she had some newfound interest in him. i…i had given him some idea of what she did and that it made me uncomfortable, but i guess she was pretty adamant and told him things on the side as well. he basically told me that he was allowed to be friends with whoever he wanted to be friends with and i couldn’t stop him.” you respond.
“why he’d want to be friends with her is lost to me in the first place.” eren states.
“either way, i’m assuming his ego is just hurt which is why he’s so keen on biting back right now. you know, with obsessed and everything. i’m sure he’s convinced that i loved him so much that i wouldn’t drag his name through the mud, even though he was the one who did it to me first.”
you pause.
“it’s entirely intentional too. he knows that i wanted to release state of grace as one of the songs for the next album, him and aimee probably talked to someone here through her dad, and got the song first since i had already recorded the demo and given the lyrics.” you respond.
“first things first, once mimi finds out whoever it was, they have to get fired.” historia responds.
you nod thoughtfully.
“any ideas for a song?” mikasa asks.
you shake your head.
“i’m not sure if that’s the right move here. only because they both know me so well.”
after almost six years of making music, there were certain fast facts and facets of the music industry that you learned very quickly.
first and foremost – it was almost never about the music. not about the art. at least not for anyone else that was attached to the music besides the songwriters and the producers.
the first priority is to get signed with a record label. the second priority is to make sure that you stay signed with your label – meaning you have to meet certain quotas, have your albums reach a certain standard of commercial success, and getting nominated for a few awards here and there.
second – some music sells and some music doesn’t. if you find something that sells, you have to hold on to it and make sure that it doesn’t run off. even if that means being repetitive, even if that means creating songs that are similar – against your better creative instincts.
there was one thing that you found out quickly. people loved love songs. but loved when you made angry, spiteful ballads aimed at people you were fighting with even more.
and third – the image is everything. if you’re able to successfully market yourself – market the image and the persona – the fans will lead you to success. in your case, you had pinned the image down to a perfect craft.
it was simple. people weren’t too fond of you. granted, that was a given – with so many people in the industry, there was bound to be some disagreements. ex-boyfriends who irritated you, talked about you in the press and sullied your good name.
and your response was always the same. writing scathing songs about them, leaving hints and details in the lyrics and music videos so people would know that you were talking about them, so that it would give people something to talk about – and more importantly, a reason to listen.
an image so perfectly curated that new releases almost promised attention, because people knew that you would be saying something in response to what had been floating around about you.
it worked well in your favor most of the time. but you were fighting fire with fire on this one, because aimee lynch is surely the type to retaliate, someone well versed on your public image since she was the one who helped you curate it.
“i would obviously feel inclined to write a song about them, but i feel like they’re smarter than that. knowing them, they’ve probably stolen another song that they’re planning on using against me after the fact.” you mumble.
there’s a dejected sigh from the group of them.
“i can tell that she puts a lot of thought into the little cat and mouse game that the two of you play all the time.” mikasa states.
“i fear she has nothing else to do besides play games with me. and it helps her image, which only gives her more reason to do it at this point. i know better than anyone that drama sells.” you respond.
eren pushes up off the couch, pacing around the room and haphazardly messing with his air, as he thinks out loud.
you’re not sure why he does it, because every solution that he offers is some type suggestion involving a violent interaction where you shut her up for good.
and while you would be inclined to take his advice, you avoid it against your better judgment. even your anger had its limits.
“can’t you steal her song back or something? talk to someone at dancing lady and do it right back?” eren asks.
“as if they would give up a song of hers so freely. i’m sure they’d all go running and tell her dad right away.” you murmur.
“you just have to hit her where it hurts, you know? like she’s clearly trying to make a point by taking something of yours, so you just have to do it back.” historia states.
you scoff.
“cool. let me just go steal her generational multi-million music empire while i’m at it.” you state.
historia rolls her eyes.
“you know i didn’t mean it like that. but you know, you just have to find some way to make her look like an idiot. someone who isn’t scared of her and isn’t particularly fond of her either, you know?” historia asks.
that’s when the thought comes back to your head. the exact words that had been said to you only a day prior, that were entirely lost to you in the mix of the aimee mess.
“trust me, the thing that pissed her off the most about me is that i didn’t take her side and took yours instead, y/n. you just have to find someone that will rally on your side that would drop her like that.” historia finishes, snapping her fingers in the air for effect.
she doesn't even finish her sentence before you're running out the door to the closest studio.

“you’re so skilled with balls.”
sukuna rolls his eyes, only to turn to his left and find what might be his most agitating co-star, satoru gojo.
“you have to know you sound like an idiot when you say that.” sukuna states.
satoru frowns.
“what did i say wrong?” he asks, the hint of a gleaming smile in his eye.
“you should invest in a tape recorder. listen to the tape back at the end of the day and do some reflection.” sukuna states, shoving the bottle of gatorade against his chest.
sukuna would rather die than tell satoru that he was his personal favorite to film scenes and do press with. there’s a plethora of things, irritatingly enough, that make sukuna so fond of satoru.
the fact that he was so skilled at interviews, that without asking, he spoke well of sukuna despite the backlash that he was currently receiving, that he tried to support him in anyway that he could.
even if sukuna made missteps, he would never be one to say anything about it. only the one to pick him up and bring him back.
“did you ever think about going pro? you’re kind of good at this shit.” satoru states.
“i’m not that good. you guys are all just terrible.” sukuna responds.
that much was obvious from how badly the other team was losing. and the fact that half of them had fell face first onto the court already.
in their last few days of press, the marketing team for the show decided that the select members of cast were going to be participating in a charity all-stars basketball game. it was one of the most anticipated events of the year, with celebrities being on both teams, and special surprise performances for the halftime show.
the combined sales of the tickets, signed jerseys, and meet and greets raised tens of thousands of dollars, and all in all, it was one of the better events that sukuna found himself being forced to attend. he liked meeting the kids, getting to sign jerseys for people who had chosen to buy his, and getting to take pictures with fans.
he liked the company at the event a little less. considerably less. sukuna looks over to the other side of the court and catches sight of kim and aimee on the other side of the court, posing for the camera by pressing a kiss to each other’s cheeks, before leaning back in their chair, entirely bored.
the glee filled expressions were dropped the second the camera man walked away, something he had seen more than a hundred times before.
satoru follows sukuna’s line of vision, before smacking him on the back.
“did you talk to them?” satoru asks.
sukuna shakes his head.
“shoyo would like…skin me alive. and i’d rather keep it lowkey for today since the premiere is tomorrow.” sukuna responds.
satoru nods, almost like he’s mulling the thought over. sukuna finds himself distracted all together, only because it’s the first time that sukuna’s able to ogle this jake character in the real light.
he finds it odd that someone as accomplished and skilled as you would ever consider dating him in the first place. he’s not entirely sure what you saw in him.
“satoru?”
“yeah?”
“what do you know about that guy?” sukuna asks, pointing over to where he’s seated on the bench, using a towel to wipe the sweat from his brow.
“who? oikawa?” satoru asks.
sukuna shakes his head.
“next to him.” sukuna states.
“jake?” satoru asks.
sukuna nods.
“just that he’s full of shit.” satoru states.
“well i could have parsed that much out myself, dumbass.” sukuna responds, shoving him in the side.
the lights in the stadium immediately dim, pink lights focused on the center of the court, and fog machines encasing the entire floor in a translucent sheen. there’s a booming voice that comes out of the speakers, that nearly makes sukuna jump out of his seat from being startled.
“ladies and gentleman, please welcome our very last performer, our very special half-time show guest, y/n l/n.”
sukuna nearly jolts up in his chair as the lights flash in the center of the court – to the sight of you wearing a light pink crew neck and a white tennis skirt – with a light pink ribbon tangled into your hair.
sukuna grabs satoru by the collar, all but pulling up to stand close to him, so he can whisper in his ear.
“was she always on the setlist?” sukuna asks.
“don’t think so. i would have remembered that.” satoru mumbles back.
Now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh Is it that sweet? I guess so Say you can't sleep, baby, I know That's that me, espresso
Move it up, down, left, right, oh Switch it up like Nintendo Say you can't sleep, baby, I know That's that me, espresso
sukuna supposes that it should be a bad sign that this is the second time in a few days that he finds himself being mesmerized by your presence.
and he figures that it’s a good sign that the two of you have ended up in the same room, at the same time – so he can make his case again. he could mastermind something if he thought about it hard enough.
“dude. you’re like fucking drooling.” satoru  whispers.
“shut the fuck up.” sukuna responds, shoving him to the side as he leans forward, trying to glean a closer look.
past his line of vision, sukuna can spot three very irritated faces. jake, kim, and aimee – matching scrunched up irritation on their faces, each of them typing very fast on his phone. he knew enough about you to know what you were doing here – trying to spite them right to their faces.
Too bad your ex don't do it for ya Walked in and dream came trued it for ya Soft skin and I perfumed it for ya I know I Mountain Dew it for ya That morning coffee, brewed it for ya One touch and I brand newed it for ya
sukuna watches as you turn around, obscuring his sight of the three of them, and look right at him. sukuna can’t help but do it again, absentmindedly lift his hand to wave at you just like he did a few days prior – at the very least, just to get confirmation that you really are looking at him – just to get exactly what he wants.
you wink back, sparing a laugh into the microphone as you stop singing and throw the sparkly microphone in your hand to one of your backup dancers.
sukuna can feel his heart pounding in his chest – no, he can feel it drop to his stomach – as he watches you pull the pink crewneck over your head, only to reveal that you’re wearing his jersey – the jersey with his last name embossed on the back – underneath.
it’s one of the most overwhelming feelings he’s had, a wholehearted and blissful exhilaration that pounds in his chest, coupled with the fact that there’s a resounding sound of cheers that erupt after the fact are music to his fucking ears.
I'm working late 'cause I'm a singer Oh, he looks so cute wrapped around my finger My twisted humor, make him laugh so often My honey bee, come and get this pollen
Too bad your ex don't do it for ya Walked in and dream came trued it for ya Soft skin and I perfumed it for ya I know I Mountain Dew it for ya That morning coffee, brewed it for ya One touch and I brand newed it for ya
“you’re such a dick. you weren’t going to tell us all that you guys were dating?” satoru asks.
sukuna swallows hard.
did this mean that the two of you were dating?
“hey, earth to fucking dumbass. are you so mesmerized that you can’t form a sentence?” suguru  asks, joining him at his side, the tone in his voice teasing as sukuna shakes his head.
sukuna can’t even muster an irritated look to give back to satoru. or a retort back to suguru. only because he’s too elated, too excited that you’ve agreed with his plan – if that’s what this meant.
“who fucking wouldn’t be mesmerized by that?” sukuna mutters.
“that’s real cute, dude. the espresso thing.” suguru states.
“what espresso thing?” sukuna asks.
“you know. because you own the coffee shop and shit? isn’t that what she means?” suguru asks.
of course that’s what you meant.
if there was one thing he learned from the interviews and songs that he listened to, it was that you didn’t do things haphazardly. that every move that you made was intentional, because you knew people would connect the dots.
meaning, that at the very least, you were acting in his favor right now. and had agreed to be his girlfriend.
sukuna can feel his heart pounding as you give one last wave to the cheering crowds, yanking your ear pieces out and letting them hang around your shoulders as you walk up to him. the sweet grin that you give him is one that sukuna can’t help but return.
he’s so happy he might just kiss you on the spot right now.
you place your hands behind your back as you give sukuna a sweet smile. only to turn immediately to his left and look at satoru. he can't help but feel dejected.
“hi.” you state.
he watches as satoru spits the gatorade back into the bottle, before standing up and running his hands through his hair. sukuna narrows his eyes at satoru and prays to god that this isn’t the time that he chooses to be an idiot.
“hi?”
you extend your hand out.
“i’m y/n.”
there’s a sudden irritation in sukuna’s chest that suddenly festers when satoru lifts your knuckles to his lips and presses a kiss against your hand.
“satoru. satoru gojo.” he responds.
you give him a smile.
“cute.”
you try not to relish in the way that sukuna clicks his tongue in his cheek, trying his best to hide his frustration, as you look up at satoru.
“to be honest, i kind of came here with an ulterior motive.” you state.
“my favorite kind of motive.” satoru responds.
you walk over to satoru’s side, linking your hand in with his as you stand in between him and sukuna and point to the other side of the court.
“you see that empty black seat right there?”
“next to aimee lynch?”
“that’s my seat.”
satoru looks down at you, as he leans forward.
“we can’t have you sitting there.” he whispers.
“only if you insist.” you offer.
satoru puts his bottle down and you watch as he retreats to the other side to retrieve the chair, as you turn over to sukuna and give him a bright grin. you can tell that sukuna’s making his best efforts to glare at you, but the smile on his face is deceiving him.
“hi lavagirl.” you state.
sukuna grins in response.
“her hair is a little more neon than mine, but it’s always a pleasure, sharkboy.” sukuna responds.
you give him a smile, noting the flashing cameras at your side, as you bring your hands forward, holding the sharpie up in between the two of you.
“what’s this?” sukuna asks.
“i got one of the last jerseys. it wasn’t signed.” you ask.
sukuna feigns shock, crouching down so that the two of you could be eye to eye. it’s the first time that you think about how much taller he is than you.
“my poor baby. we can’t have that, now can we?” sukuna jests.
you shake your head as sukuna smiles, taking the pen from your fingers, before signaling for you to turn around with his pointer finger.
and it makes you shiver as he places one of his hands on your shoulder, taking the time to move the hair to the side of your shoulder before scribbling on your back. and that burning warmth that pools in your stomach gets even worse as his breath tickles your neck, before he leans over and presses a kiss to the nape of your neck.
“one thing.” he whispers.
you swallow hard, the whisper in his voice sending a shiver down your spine.
“what’s that?”
you watch as satoru walks up, placing the chair right next to his, as you and sukuna shoot him a smile.
“try to rile me up and it’ll be more than that next time.”
you turn around, rolling your eyes at him, as you stand on the tips of your toes, leaning against his shoulder as you press a lingering kiss to his cheek. you can feel people lifting their phones to take a picture from your peripheral vision, as you pull back.
satoru returns with the chair and doesn’t return alone, because aimee and jake are right behind him, hands balled into fists at their side as they walk right up to the two of you. sukuna seems to get the hint at the same time as you do, as he wraps his hand around your waist, pulling you closer as they approach.
“y/n. sukuna.” aimee states, acknowledging your presence as she crosses her hands over her chest.
“what can i do for you, satan?” sukuna asks.
“what the hell is this?” aimee asks.
sukuna looks down at you, offering you a confused look, before looking back at her.
“me congratulating my girlfriend after her performance? what the fuck does it look like?” sukuna asks.
girlfriend. you can tell that the word doesn’t roll over well, with either of them. but it sends the blood rushing right to your head, the warmth blooming in your cheeks.
“girlfriend? you’ve got to be fucking kidding.” aimee scoffs.
“do i look like i’m kidding to you?” sukuna deadpans.
“this is how you repay me after everything i did for you?” aimee asks.
sukuna gives her a confused look.
“what the hell did you do for me? besides give me a herpes scare?”
you laugh into your hand, particularly at the fact that jake’s eyes go wide at his words.
“i’d get checked if i were you dude. you never know.” sukuna adds, giving jake a smile.
aimee turns over to you, pointing an accusatory finger your way, as she gives you a cold glare, a glare that you’ve seen hundreds of time, one that you used to cower to at one point.
“you better watch yourself.”
“she’s fine where she is. i’d suggest you fuck off while you’re ahead and quit embarrassing yourself the way you are.” sukuna responds.
aimee rolls her eyes.
“i hope that you know that i cheated on you with jake the entire time that we were together. while he was dating y/n.” aimee responds.
sukuna laughs.
“and i hope you know that i was never really into you in the first place. why would i be when she’s around?” sukuna responds back.
you’re not sure if sukuna knows what he’s done. if he intentionally rubbed salt into the wound, into the exact wound that’s caused you so much pain at aimee's hands, but you can’t help but linger on it.
"don't forget that i was the one who broke up with you. not the other way around." sukuna states.
you ignore it. only because the pouty face that she makes as she retreats is one that fills you with so much joy, that has sukuna smiling down at you like he's the sun.
“do you want me to beat him up for you?” sukuna asks.
“who, jake? he didn’t even say anything.” you respond.
sukuna squints his eyes at you.
“she just mentioned that he was cheating on you. and i’m figuring it’s with the last person that you would have wanted it to be.”
“i mean. yeah.” you respond. “i’ll repeat. do you want me to beat him up?” sukuna asks.
you shrug.
“eh. not worth the trouble. sure his ego is bruised enough as it is.”
sukuna narrows his eyes at you again, the whistle of the referee sending him back to the court as he presses one last kiss to your knuckles and you take a seat on the chair on the side of the court that satoru pulled up for you.
you aimlessly scroll through the texts on your phone.
[mika]: WTF WERE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT
[mika]: BRO SHE LOOKED SO PISSED
[hisu]: you’re so right he IS KIND OF CUTE
[hisu]: also song was TEWWW GOOD. you’re so beautiful i love you so much don’t ever die.
[eren]: I don’t see it.
[mika]: shut up eren
[megs]: Are you dating, Sukuna?
[megs]: I didn't even realized that you guys knew each other.
you look up from your phone to focus back on the game, only to find you’ve started paying attention at an opportune time. because you swear sukuna sticks his leg out to trip jake, sending him falling right to his face right as he runs past.
your suspicions are confirmed when sukuna gets flagged for it. you can tell that he doesn't seem to care too much, only because the smile on his face betrays him.

Hey, fam, just FYI that even though Gaiman isn't the showrunner for GO3 anymore, he still owns the IP and therefore still gets a bunch of credits and will still be paid for his work on the show.

Gaiman will continue to get residuals from all three seasons of GO and from any other show that has already been produced as long as they are streaming or broadcast anywhere. Presumably he will also continue to get royalties from sales of his books, along with advances for anything that anyone publishes in the future, assuming anyone still wants to publish his stuff at all.
Streaming any show Gaiman worked for, including GO3, will give more money to Gaiman. Buying Gaiman's books will give more money to Gaiman.
It's not possible to divest Gaiman of his own intellectual property, no matter how much we might want to do so. If you want to avoid supporting him financially, you need to not stream the shows or buy any more of his writing.
Please note that I'm not telling people that they shouldn't stream the shows or buy the books. It's up to each of us as individuals to decide whether or how we want to interact with Gaiman's work going forward.

The Emergence of NFTs: Transforming Digital Ownership and Creativity
Tumblr media
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have revolutionized the way we think about digital ownership, art, and collectibles. By leveraging blockchain technology, NFTs provide a way to create, buy, sell, and own unique digital assets with verifiable provenance and scarcity. This article explores the world of NFTs, their impact on various industries, key benefits and challenges, and notable projects, including a brief mention of Sexy Meme Coin.
What Are NFTs?
NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens, are unique digital assets that represent ownership of a specific item or piece of content, such as art, music, videos, virtual real estate, and more. Unlike cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, which are fungible and can be exchanged on a one-to-one basis, NFTs are indivisible and unique. Each NFT is recorded on a blockchain, ensuring transparency, security, and verifiability of ownership.
The Rise of NFTs
NFTs gained mainstream attention in 2021 when digital artist Beeple sold an NFT artwork for $69 million at Christie's auction house. This landmark event highlighted the potential of NFTs to transform the art world by providing artists with new revenue streams and collectors with verifiable digital ownership.
Since then, NFTs have exploded in popularity, with various industries exploring their potential applications. From gaming and music to real estate and fashion, NFTs are creating new opportunities for creators, businesses, and investors.
Key Benefits of NFTs
Digital Ownership: NFTs provide a way to establish true digital ownership of assets. Each NFT is unique and can be traced back to its original creator, ensuring authenticity and provenance. This is particularly valuable in the art and collectibles market, where forgery and fraud are significant concerns.
Monetization for Creators: NFTs enable creators to monetize their digital content directly. Artists, musicians, and other content creators can sell their work as NFTs, earning revenue without relying on intermediaries. Additionally, smart contracts can be programmed to provide creators with royalties each time their NFT is resold, ensuring ongoing income.
Interoperability: NFTs can be used across different platforms and ecosystems, allowing for interoperability in the digital world. For example, NFTs representing in-game items can be traded or used across multiple games and virtual worlds, enhancing their utility and value.
Scarcity and Collectibility: NFTs introduce scarcity into the digital realm by creating limited editions or one-of-a-kind items. This scarcity drives the collectibility of NFTs, similar to physical collectibles like rare coins or trading cards.
Challenges Facing NFTs
Environmental Impact: The creation and trading of NFTs, especially on energy-intensive blockchains like Ethereum, have raised concerns about their environmental impact. Efforts are being made to develop more sustainable blockchain solutions, such as Ethereum's transition to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism.
Market Volatility: The NFT market is highly speculative and can be volatile. Prices for NFTs can fluctuate significantly based on trends, demand, and market sentiment. This volatility poses risks for both creators and investors.
Intellectual Property Issues: NFTs can raise complex intellectual property issues, particularly when it comes to verifying the rightful owner or creator of the digital content. Ensuring that NFTs are legally compliant and respect intellectual property rights is crucial.
Access and Inclusivity: The high costs associated with minting and purchasing NFTs can limit accessibility for some creators and collectors. Reducing these barriers is essential for fostering a more inclusive NFT ecosystem.
Notable NFT Projects
CryptoPunks: CryptoPunks are one of the earliest and most iconic NFT projects. Created by Larva Labs, CryptoPunks are 10,000 unique 24x24 pixel art characters that have become highly sought-after collectibles.
Bored Ape Yacht Club: Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is a popular NFT collection featuring 10,000 unique hand-drawn ape avatars. Owners of these NFTs gain access to exclusive events and benefits, creating a strong community around the project.
Decentraland: Decentraland is a virtual world where users can buy, sell, and develop virtual real estate as NFTs. This platform allows for the creation of virtual experiences, games, and social spaces, showcasing the potential of NFTs in the metaverse.
NBA Top Shot: NBA Top Shot is a platform that allows users to buy, sell, and trade officially licensed NBA collectible highlights. These video clips, known as "moments," are sold as NFTs and have become popular among sports fans and collectors.
Sexy Meme Coin (SXYM): Sexy Meme Coin integrates NFTs into its platform, offering a decentralized marketplace where users can buy, sell, and trade memes as NFTs. This unique approach combines humor and finance, adding a distinct flavor to the NFT landscape. Learn more about Sexy Meme Coin at Sexy Meme Coin.
The Future of NFTs
The future of NFTs is bright, with continuous innovation and expanding use cases. As technology advances and more industries explore the potential of NFTs, we can expect to see new applications and opportunities emerge. From virtual fashion and digital identities to decentralized finance (DeFi) and beyond, NFTs are poised to reshape various aspects of our digital lives.
Efforts to address environmental concerns, improve accessibility, and ensure legal compliance will be crucial for the sustainable growth of the NFT ecosystem. Collaboration between creators, platforms, and regulators will help build a more robust and inclusive market.
Conclusion
NFTs have ushered in a new era of digital ownership, creativity, and innovation. By providing verifiable ownership and provenance, NFTs are transforming industries ranging from art and entertainment to gaming and virtual real estate. While challenges remain, the potential benefits of NFTs and their ability to empower creators and engage communities make them a significant force in the digital economy.

Yo! I'm writing a class assignment on why Internet Archive is so right for breaching copyright laws and why the court is so so wrong for siding with publishers, and I wanted to talk about some authors who encourage others to pirate their work because so little of the money from book sales actually goes to the author.
Do you have any writing on this philosophy?
Thanks!!
I don't have any formally published writing on it, but you can site this message as "personal correspondence" (yes that's a thing in APA/MLA/Chicago style whatever).
I encourage people to pirate my work because I care first and foremost about the ideas within the books to reach an audience. I started writing for a general audience because I cared deeply about making information more accessible, and removing financial barriers to access is a core element of that. I also write work that targets populations that tend to be very poor -- disabled people, queer people, overworked people, and so on. It's vitally important to me that they can read the books, which means not requiring that they pay. Philosophically, I recognize that my ideas come from a long lineage of scholarship from other thinkers, including many disabled activists who always made their work available for free, and I don't deserve to profit from that thinking while others can't. I don't believe an idea can be owned, and like all forms of property, I believe intellectual property to be theft.
The act of writing is labor and I do think that deserves to be valued and compensated -- to wit, it bears mentioning that most authors do not earn any money from book sales. In order for an author to receive royalties, a book must first sell enough copies to "earn out" its advance, which may require selling anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 copies, depending on the size of the advance payment. And 95% of books sell fewer than 5,000 copies ever. This means the vast majority of authors never see a single cent from a book sale. Even if their books do "earn out", they are only looking at about 12.5% of the profits in royalties after that point. So it's hardly a lucrative venture. There's really no reason for me to be invested in the commercial success of my books, from a labor rights perspective, and certainly not from an intellectual or scholarly one. So I always tell people, steal, steal away, with my blessing.

I'm not "kill all ai" type of person but are you implying that the technocrats wet dream is actually about the destruction of ownership and a path towards communism?
Anti-AI arguments boil down to either idealist nonsense (AI art has no soul!) or arguments that can be made against literally any technology under capitalism (it uses electricity! It needs water for cooling! The industry exploits the developing world!)
AI art is not going to bring us closer to communism any more than any other technology. That said, the progress of technology furthers the material conditions that form the basis of communism. Communism is not possible without a developed industrial base. It is important to look at technology not only at how it is being used now but also how it could be developed and better used in the future. Otherwise, we end up as Luddites or anarcho-primitivists. The present state of things is not the only possible state of things.
It is likely that, were generative AI better developed and refined, it could be a great aid in the creation of works that would otherwise require entire teams of people working manually. Manual labor is not a virtue. It is merely a necessity, and reducing labor requirements only threatens the financial security of workers under capitalism.
Right now, any workers facing unemployment or overwork due to automation via AI or other means should absolutely organize together and demand protections. But the culture war demonization of AI as some unique evil that threatens the sanctity and purity of art is reactionary and idealist, especially when it is bound up in intellectual property apologetics. If we don't have the correct view of AI, then we risk taking incorrect steps to combat any threats resulting from it.
The strengthening of copyright law, for example, is very much an incorrect step that would only serve capital at the expense of the masses. We should not be defending bourgeois and petit-bourgeois anxieties surrounding their property rights as if they have anything to do with the concerns of proletarian artists who are at risk of being laid off due to automation. Ensuring that IP holders get royalties from AI generation will not save jobs and will likely have ripple effects that threaten archival projects, search engines, and fan works. Not to mention that it would make any open source generative AI models basically impossible to develop or distribute legally.
So no, AI will not bring us communism. But reactionary anti-AI backlash will certainly not help either.

The Legalities of GMMtv's Yfind
Tumblr media
Some of us have probably moved on already... but I finally heard back from my mother's coworker [X] regarding the legalities of GMM's Yfind process as laid out in their terms and conditions, which I have translated here. For privacy reasons, I'm not going to name my source, but just know they are a qualified contract lawyer currently working for CUIPI. My mother and I have both profusely apologized for bothering them with this matter, for which they've been incredibly gracious.
As I've stated, the 'contract' is creatively worded to skirt around company liability, though I didn't exactly have the legal know-how to explain why. Now that I am armed with that information, let's dive in...
First things first: the Terms and Conditions are, in fact, considered a binding contract as you are required to have read them before you can submit your work. This initial contract is considered to be legally sound in its use of specific terminology as to not violate Thailand's "Unfair Contract Terms Act". What really matters, however, is the final negotiated contract between the winning applicants and the company... which is unavailable for inspection.
The Prize Money. So... this is where things get a little exploitative. Because it's hard to put a price on someone's work when there aren't any 'clockable' hours. Some might be thinking, "Three pages doesn't seem like a lot of work," but you can do a lot with three pages. It was pointed out that spacing, font size, and margins were not specified beyond the standard default document settings. Meaning, if an applicant were to submit a document using the default normal spacing, 11 point font, and 1 inch margins, they can average anywhere between 1500-2000 words. Not to mention... there's pre-planning, brainstorming, and drafts that must happen before the writing of a final 'submittable' synopsis. AND they are allowing a total of two works per submission. Story developers within a production company typically do not work alone. Your normal story developer, as part of a low-end production company (so not GMMtv), averages about ฿300/hr. For an average nine-hour work day, the prize money works out to be equal to twelve and a half days of work. Work that would typically get done as part of a development team... who would be earning much higher than the average salary given GMMtv's stature. The 'reward' money is the only compensation applicants will be receiving should they agree to transfer ownership of their property to the company, there are no royalties (this is standard for novel to television adaptation rights, as well). You can decide for yourself if that seems fair.
Liability. (Without seeing the final contract negotiations and transfer documents, a lot of the information provided to me is purely speculative) The company has, essentially, ensured that they will not be held liable for any copyright or intellectual property lawsuits... should they arise. They have avoided explicitly stating their sole legal responsibility of the property once ownership has been transferred. Meaning, that even though winning applicants will no longer own their work, they can still be held liable (by those claiming infringement AND by the company themselves) for these types of lawsuits. And where the company has access to a lot more financial and legal resources, the burden placed on applicants is a lot heavier. This is where the next point comes into play.
Legal Advocation. It is highly recommended that, should the company not already provide one, winning applicants should seek legal representation to negotiate on their behalf. They are within their rights to request an advocate be provided for them on the company's dime. The company is also within their rights to refuse... but at that point, it's a clear sign to back out from negotiations and not sign any legal documentation. If they really are this desperate for ideas, then there shouldn't be a problem... unless GMM are purposefully looking to take advantage of someone who doesn't know any better. If applicants are under the age of consent (in Thailand, that's anyone under 20), an advocate must be provided for them regardless, otherwise all binding contracts are considered null and void.
IP Retention Rights. It was also pointed out to me that it was interesting to see GMMtv [barely] address intellectual property retention rights in their FAQ rather than in their terms and conditions. What does that mean? If GMMtv do not legally obtain the rights to an applicant's work, it should remain the sole property of the applicant. BUT intellectual property ownership is a lot harder to prove in a court of law than, say, filed patents and copyrights. So even though GMMtv will not own the property per se, they do retain access to it after it's already been submitted. (Again, speculative ->) They have teams who can develop and change enough of a property to avoid infringement liability. And even still, should a case be made for infringement, it's the applicants (who are at a disadvantage) vs. GMMtv's wealth of financial and legal resources.
Bottom Line... Yfind is bullshit (my words) and unfortunately, there will be people who are going to fall for it.

I just woke up from a dream I think was heavy influenced by the ‘Daisy’ + Tom post-zombie ‘date’ fic, feat. Aftran - some random teenage girl ends up Aftran’s host and they begin to share her life, such as her boyfriend & track meets, but also her film career - as she’s currently (either the lead or something close to it) actress in a movie, which I’m kinda seeing the whole dream with undertones of ‘documentary about the whole situation post-fact with yeerk knowledge’, ie “And nobody knew it, but Aftran was who [insert movie boyfriend’s name] was really working with for 300 of 500 days filming” or something. I don’t know why Aftran was the one taking over for filming so often, except for the scenes of the movie where she has to eat a lot of junk food for the scene. Maybe there’s a fun AU to be had off that dream?
This is a wild concept and I love it, because it gets into all kinds of post-war intellectual property questions. If Aftran and her host collaborate to film a movie, then do they get equal billing? If not, how do you sort it out?
Wasn't there a fic somewhere out there that had a yeerk and their host collaborate on a famous piece of piano music during the war, and then after the war there was a big argument between them over who deserved the credit and the royalties? Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Ok, so I came across this dialogue by accident:
Anon: Maybe if people updated more we wouldn't turn to ai
Tumblr User: You’re a pathetic, impatient loser. Fanfic writers owe you nothing, and their writing is their own, not yours to do with as you choose, you entitled brat.
Um. I dunno, man. That's a bit rich coming from a fanfic writer, who's doing as they choose with someone else's writing, so to speak, because at the end of the day that is what writing fanfic IS.
Bonus points because absolutely nobody is being harmed from someone letting AI finish a fanfic for them. Like, mate, you're not even missing out on royalties!
In other news, the anti ai crowd continues to lash out with no rhyme or reason to it, more at ten.
(A lot of anti ai talking points only hold up when you support very, very strict and extensive Intellectual Property rights, and when you create and publish fan content, you probably shouldn't do that, because your own hobby might very well end up on the wrong side of the line here!)
*flashbacks to people cheering on the anti ai lawsuit by Known Fanfic Hater Growl Martin & Friends as if that shit doesn't have the potential to come back and bite fan communities in the ass with a vengeance*
Some of us are old enough to remember when "making fan content of my work is harmful to me because I didn't consent to you using my work in that way and it's disrespectful and violating of you to write fanfic of MY writing" was a standard viewpoint among authors and we all had to put "i'm broke please don't sue me" disclaimers on all our fanfic
Like yes, it's rude to tell authors that's what you're doing with their fic unless you already know they'd be cool with it, or to tell people that they're not updating fast enough for your tastes. And personally I doubt the quality of AI writing is good enough to be worth it. But ultimately someone generating new chapters of your work for their own personal enjoyment is doing exactly as much harm to you as you're doing to the original author by writing fanfic - i.e., none, and if you keep harping on about needing harsher copyright protection we are all going to suffer for it

IMO anyone who believes in any kind of intellectual property law should be hung from a lamppost, or be tied to a firepit and bayoneted until dead, or meet some other such grizzly fate. Unending hatred for the censor, eternal rejection of the busybody. You cannot own ideas, I will not bow to your gods, you can't control what I say, get the fuck out of my way. AI is an important issue for other reasons (could destroy the world if we're careless with it) but as for the current discourse, most of it, I have no response to it but that. Damn intellectual property to hell. Kill. Kill. Kill.
i'm as prone to overexaggeration in the name of rhetorical point as the next person, but damn dude. take it down a notch. there are worse crimes than wanting royalty payments.

Zero's inner monolog has me rolling. He's constantly two seconds away from ending everyone and the only thing currently stopping him is he kinda wants to see what these idiots try next (and needling the JL is fun even if they do half the work for him)
Then please allow me to gift you with more, friend, lol, 'cuz I love ALL his inner monologue.
“Ask your father,” Black Zero says dryly, folding his arms. Superboy scowls at him.
“He’s not my fucking dad, Jesus,” he says in exasperation. “I don’t even have a dad, okay? My literal only ‘family’ member is my brother from another cloning tube who fucking hates me.”
“. . . how do you not have any parents?” Black Zero asks, staring down at the idiot kid in absolute bafflement at the idea. “You’re half my physiological age. You’re half my size.”
“I don’t need parents,” Superboy snaps defensively, folding his own arms. The gesture looks much more tense than Black Zero knows it did when he did it. “I have a job and royalties and shit. I pay fucking taxes. When was the last time you paid your taxes?”
“I just collect them,” Black Zero replies, raising an eyebrow at him. “Can’t run a reality without the proper funding, you know how it is.”
Then he pauses, and . . . wait.
“‘Royalties’?” he repeats with a frown.
“Oh–yeah, I guess you wouldn’t have done that,” Superboy says, then shrugs. “I used to do endorsements and stuff. Have some video games, comics, shit like that. I still get royalties from some of it. Which–not relevant here, okay, it’s–”
“I’m sorry, did you just tell me you were a damn child star superhero?” Black Zero asks incredulously, and Superboy looks offended.
“Teen idol superhero, fucking thank you,” he snipes.
Forget that brat who stole the jacket to begin with. Black Zero has officially met the worst possible version of himself.
“That is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever heard,” he says. “Stupider than the one of us who worked for Batman. Stupider than having to pronounce ‘Supergrrrl’ with all three ‘r’s in it.”
“Sorry I had to pay fucking rent, asshole,” Superboy snaps. “We didn’t all take over the world, okay?”
“I’m going to set this entire reality on fire,” Black Zero mutters under his breath, pushing his glasses up so he can pinch the bridge of his nose. “You don’t have the sense to avoid getting strapped to an atomic bomb, and someone let you sign legally binding paperwork and contracts?”
“That was your fault!” Superboy protests. “I had to do that because of you!”
Black Zero dismisses that argument as obviously irrelevant and just rolls his eyes.
“You’re not even old enough to sign legally binding paperwork,” he says in exasperation. “Who’s your legal guardian?”
“Uh,” Superboy says, then pauses with a considering frown. “I don’t think I have one? I mean, clones are legally classified as IP, man, not peop–I did that thing where I told you something I shouldn’t again, didn’t I.”
Black Zero idly considers reality-immolation again.
Also, what the fuck. Clones are "intellectual property", but Superboy still has to pay taxes?
Fucking bullshit.
