You mentioned in your tweet on today's (8/17/24) Sonic Heardle Catch Me If You Can might be the worst series in the franchise for you. Does that include things like Sonic 4 Ep. 2?

Listen to it! The first 19 seconds aren't even music! It's all toilet sounds!

Sonic 4 music is sad, but it's at least music. Catch Me If You Can from Sonic Riders is like listening to a 12 year old make up a song in the shower for the first time.

Runblebee's later work (Secret Rings, even their remix of this song for Sonic Riders Zero Gravity) is a lot better. But this thing is a disaster to me. It's not even funny bad; somebody mashed random keys on their synthesizer and tried to set lyrics to it.

I have a question—

What are your top five, favorite Sonic songs?

Oh man I have so many favourites, Sonic Adventure 2 is one of my favourite soundtracks to anything ever, but so many of the other songs are so uplifting and genuinely motivational that I can't help but feel a little more determined when I listen to them. I've narrowed it down though, so here ya go:

Unknown From M.E. - Marlon Saunders and Dredd Foxx (this song is such a bop once you get over the initial shock of the lyrics lmao. The song's surprisingly jazzy for the character this song's describing, considering how Knuckles is more associated with hip-hop in later installments but this is definitely a good one!)

Fly In The Freedom - Tabitha Fair (GAH the vocals, the guitars and wind instruments, the smoothness of it all is so satisfying to listen to and it's so jazzy I love it.)

The Chosen One - A2 (okay this one has a chorus that's kind of. Like a lame 2000s song but to be fair, that's exactly what it is; nevertheless that delicious little guitar melody they have in the verses is so emo and encapsulates the gritty edginess of Shadow 05 perfectly.)

Catch Me If You Can - Runblebee (I'm specifically talking about the Zero Gravity version because that one comes with a complementary string/synth riff that's actually addictive, once it gets stuck in your head [AND IT WILL] it's not leaving.)

Believe In Myself - Kaz Silver (BOO I bet you weren't expecting another SA2 track. Anyways this song is actually kind of motivating?? The guitar in the chorus is super cute, definitely what you'd want in a Tails theme song and the vocals, while not on the same skill level as Tabitha Fair's fit in nicely and do the song a great service.)

What's up everyone?

We covered the Riders version already, but this one has a completely different vibe. I do like the Sonic tradition of taking the same song from one game and doing something different for a different, yet related game (i.e. the SA2 image songs).

One thing persists: it's very mid-aughts. But in perhaps a slightly different direction. I love the chord progression, combined with the repetitive guitar line and the stinging string samples make it really catchy. The 7ths in particular on top of that string sample give some great color here. Say what you want about the rap-rock going on, there is definitely a "cool" factor here baked into this song. It's got swagger! There's a lot of space given in the rap sections too, balancing the rhymes and the backing track. Oh, and I think there's a little acoustic padding in the pre-chorus too!

All of that burning in the old world of Shinra was all part of a corrupt game. The flames, the story, the tales, it wasn't Shinra that ruined my life, it was ours!

Heartless Haumea : Oh, who am I kidding. I'm going to destroy you anyway.

Haumea : Think twice! Because the heart-shaped moon has something for you to deal with.

Heartless Haumea : Huh?

Sonic : *gasped* Just as I thought. The Haumea who died about 1000 years ago has returned from the dead.

Tails : Say what? So the real vessel of the Eight Pure hearts is...returning from after the destruction Ohkuboverse 1000 years ago! Sonic, these could be the key to destruction on the real world. The other Eight vessels could be male or female, that might one of the eight pillars that the eight pure hearts are connected to. Just for the record, Where is the first vessel of the Eight pure hearts. Amaterasu, the Spectral woman and the True Flames of Disaster!

Sonic : What! That's preposterous! You and ourselves in the 06, I retconned my stupid game after Sega rushed it's development when Yuji Naka left the company to prevent the blame of the game's failure! Plus, I got shot in the back in by a Recolor Shadow! Luckily, since Sonic 06 didn't happened, Eggman Nega tried to our world into a Card, that inter-dimensional creep is getting out of character with a proper context.

Tails : Translation, the CAST Vivienne told us about the Jeweled being used for the machine he calls it, the Egg Wizard. I believe that the Jeweled Scepter was a dangerous weapon that no being would ever use it for destruction and genocide! That's what the recolored Shadow killed you the first place since the game's events were reset after you retconned 06's plot.

Sonic : Well, you're kinda right. Tails.

Shahra's voice : Sonic, I'm begging you. You gotta save others from those who bring destruction to the world.

Sonic : I know, Shahra. Just a little different from our world to end one's tale or one's story, I bet the seven world rings could comprehend that it should be the key on Ohkuboverse's end. However, when the Ohkuboverse was destroyed by the Time Eater, everyone who lived in the Ohkuboverse makes a comeback or being resurrected from the 1000 years of death. So what happens after the 1000 year-old annihilation means...

*radio buzzing*

Tails : Huh?

Sonic : Something's big that is being signaled?

Tails : Be my guess.

Knuckles (via radio) : Sonic, Tails! Can hear you me? This is Knuckles!

Sonic : Knuckles, do you copy?

Knuckles (via radio) : We're in trouble! We have the state of Emergency hear at San Francisco! The Devil Chaos Chao from Chao World has turned into a mutated adult that looks like Chaos. Shinra Kusakabe, the true creator of Soul World, has returned and is alive after his 1000 years of death to resurrect himself by going through reincarnation!

Sonic : What!?

Tails : That's impossible! Shinra Kusakabe is alive!?

Sonic : Darn! So the evil forces from Soul Eater was a diversion!? Can't believe that easily made a complete over the hatred against witches, that's something have to do with the eight vessels of the Pure Hearts! Come on, we gotta find the red Pure heart! We gotta go, Tails! Knuckles needs us!

Tails : Okay! (the two runs off)

Blaze : (shown looking through with binoculars) So we meet again, Blue Hedgehog? It'll be my pleasure to see you again after two years of our first contact. I'll have my duty to see the light of day. It'll be like the good old days when you know about me in the past. This day, I will defeat my enemy who dares stand in my way of claiming the true user of the flames! But I must reclaim it before anyone does. (jumps off)
