I’d LOVE to hear your story about seeing David Johansen, if you don’t mind sharing!
Hiiiii! Oh, I would love to - thank you so much for asking!
So, a bit of backstory first - I have been a ginormous fan of Hanoi Rocks since the early 90s, and they and Guns n' Roses (who I have also been into for a little longer - reading interviews with Gn'R talking about their influences was how I discovered Hanoi) always talked about the New York Dolls being one of their major influences. So as soon as I could get my paws on their best-of CD I did. I never thought I might get to see them live, though, given that they imploded quite spectacularly in the mid-70s.
And then, in the mid-2000s, they reformed. With a few lineup changes (Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan and Arthur 'Killer' Kane having died), including one of my heroes, Sami Yaffa of Hanoi Rocks on bass, they toured the UK in December 2009, and I went to see them at Bristol University Students' Union. (as an aside, the gig took place in the room where my parents met in November 1967 :D ) At that time I had not yet had the opportunity to see Sami live, although I'd seen Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy a few times by that point (and Sami has been in Michael's solo band since 2010, along with Steve Conte of the new NYD, so I've seen him loads of times since XD )
They were truly fantastic. Here's what I said on my LJ at the time, edited slightly for clarity and the passage of time:
Last night was spectacular. The 'Dolls are excellent, I was down on the barrier taking pics (and some of them may even have come out), I nearly (but not quite) met Sami...and what I didn't realise till I got there was that the whole damn shooting match was taking place in the room where my parents met. As for nearly meeting Sami, I got talking to the sound guy at the end of the show, because I'd gone to ask him if he had a setlist (he did, and a sticker too as a souvenir). He noticed my shirt (I was wearing my Mike Monroe 'you need people like me' shirt), said Sami would get a real kick out of it, and took a pic of me to show him. So I bit the bullet and said that I'd really like to say hi to Sami if possible, as I had something for him to sign - showed the guy my Hanoi Rocks magazine from the sleeve of the Two Steps from the Move LP, he went 'O.O whoa where did you get this, Sami'll love it!', and promised to see if he could find him for me. I waited, nearly got thrown out by security but managed to talk my way back in, met Steve Conte the slightly Johnny Thundersesque guitarist, then the sound guy came back saying he couldn't find Sami and thought he might have gone back to the hotel. Dammit! But yes! Legendary! David Johansen - omg the voice is still there, stronger than ever, and he's so *slim*! Whoa. And Sylvain Sylvain is... a) crazy, b) very very New York, and c) tiny. Honestly. He's no taller than me, I'm sure of it. And he shares a mic with Sami, who is way taller than I'd expected, so *that* was kind of entertaining. And the set was great...started out with Looking for a Kiss, and they did Cause I Sez So, Dance Like A Monkey, Trash, Jet Boy, Personality Crisis of course, Syl did a tiny bit of You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory for Johnny Thunders <3333, and ohohohoh it was great. :D *happysigh*
I met Sami two years later when I got to show him my Hanoi Rocks tattoo. :D But I digress! Here, have some photos from the gig!

Syl's gone now, of course, and now David has gone, too. All the original Dolls, like all the original Ramones. </3 Maybe there's a very raucous gig going on somewhere we'll all get to go eventually...
Thank you again for asking, @oil-eclipse, and giving me the excuse to go digging in my memories and rediscover this truly epic night! :D :D :D <3333333

Steve Conte - Living Inside the Shell
Ghost in the Shell Stand alone Complex OST

Wake up
I hear a voice, hear a voice calling out to me
Lyrics:
Roaming in between the worlds of sleep and awake Seems so far away from where I've been and unsure but not afraid Intrusting my soul I know I must be taken to see the world that is Not so far from now
Imaginations come and sweep the shores of my mind Letting it be, visions pass, and emotions arise Letting them go, and beyond are doors I've never seen, opening one by one
I hear a voice, hear a voice calling out to me Look inside, see the light now ever holding you All the truth is all you need to make of your reality, it's right here Look deep within your shell
Finding out a galaxy of planets and stars within me Listening to each of them singing the same silent melody I've never seen such beauty in possibility no speck of doubt or fear
I hear a voice, hear a voice calling out to me I see inside, see the light now ever holding me All the truth, all I need to make of this reality it's beauty within the shell
I hear a voice, hear a voice calling out to me I see inside, see the light now ever holding me All the truth, all I need to make of this reality, it's inside Right here within this shell
The sandglass starts for another time's beginning from within Cotton fields, mama's arms are gently unfolding me into the new...
Here from behind my sight, my thoughts, my mind Show the light The time is right And from the depth within show the balance Of outer and inner harmony Mind and heart, soul and spirit undivided Here's where true strength and beauty lies We'll see this before us with our own eyes We'll see, with our own eyes... LOVE
I hear a voice, hear a voice calling out to me I see inside, see the light now ever holding me All the truth, all I need to make of this reality it's beauty within the shell
I hear a voice, hear a voice calling out to me I see inside, see the light now ever holding me All the truth, all I need to make of this reality it's beauty within the shell

I'm going feral over the opening and ending of Wolfs Rain. It's been so many years since I've heard them and I just want to share them with anyone who cares to listen to them. It's such a good anime.

Accidentally perfect depressed Aziraphale song (No Reply, Seatbelts, Steve Conte)
I had almost forgot this song existed, but come on: are you seeing what I'm seeing?
"With every lie that I lived part of me would fade..."
"You gave yourself to me and showed me what the truth could be..."
"For all the times you walked the line for me and standing by my side I say thank you..."
"I no longer know myself but I still know you..."
"Can you forgive me?..."
"I FALL"
This is the ultimate "angel who is starting to realize that he messed up big time" song. Can someone edit this over a montage of depressed Aziraphale images?
I mean, look at the lyrics:
Like the perfect ending It won't be too long Till everything I've ruined has seen me gone In time, I pray you'll forgive me Now you know the man I am Can you forgive me?
I fall Like the sands of time Like some broken rhyme At feet no longer there
If only I could call the rain to melt and wash away the pain you feel I would You gave yourself to me and showed me what the truth could be For that, I say thank you This was my life It never made much sense to me
With every lie that I lived Part of me would fade Into this empty shadow I've become And now I feel so numb I no longer know myself But I still know you
I call And there's no reply Like some phantom cry On ears too far away
I close my eyes and watch as my life passes by The only thing I see is you For all the times you walked the line for me and standing by my side I say thank you Here lies my life It never felt that real to me
You'll always mean so much to me And there's no reply And there's no reply You'll never know how much you meant to me And there's no reply And there's no reply You'll never know how much you meant to me
If only I could call the rain to melt and wash away the pain you feel I would (I would I would) You gave yourself to me and showed me what the truth could be For that, I say thank you (I say thank you) I close my eyes and watch as my life passes by The only thing I see is you For all the times you walked the line for me and standing by my side I say thank you
You in my life It all meant so much more to be

I'm just going to say it, Wolf's Rain wasn't a very good anime.
But it does have one of the best soundtracks ever produced.
