okay now the plot tweest

the plot twist that they're from a patriarchal conservative traditional fire nation town that won't let girls firebend is a LITTLE ODD given how it is directly contradicted by [checks notes] none other than azula so is it like... an attitude from BEFORE THE WAR? the idea that some guy would put out a hit on a woman who left the village just to punish her for leaving is a little outrageous for what we know about the world of avatar, although patriarchal attitudes are not strange (katara + waterbending in book 1: water) so she REALLY must have been some kind of dissident lol. like with a bit more juice (as always with legend of korra el oh el) this story is about a woman who advocated for change in her village and fled for her life to the safety of republic city when she pushed too hard against the status quo.

the random mugging death was always a little overblown but i guess it was supposed to be like "look how dangerous republic city is" which this whole comic undermines. i should have written this comic btw. Favorite Color: Toss up between a deep foresty green or a rich red-burgundy. No I cannot just say “green” or “red”, who tf do you think I am

Currently Watching: I haven’t been watching much TV lately, but I did watch a whole bunch of Abbott Elementary with my partner when I visited them last month. I really enjoyed it, I see why he likes it so much.

Last Movie I Watched: …..again, I haven’t been watching a whole lot of anything. Does Snapcube’s “Until Dawn” fandub on youtube count? Bc I’m pretty sure I’ve watched both parts like 8 times in the past two weeks - I quote it incessantly to nobody bc I live alone 👍

Sweet, Savory, or Sour: Each have their place, but I have a major sweet tooth. I’d die fastest without my daily sweet little treat.

Currently Reading: I haven’t had the focus to do a lot of reading lately, which is so upsetting. But once I am ready, I plan to read my new copy of Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg. It was recommended to me by my partner, who said it was quintessential reading for queer people - particularly for femmes and GNC folks. It’s free to read online, at the request of the author! There’s lots of discussion about homophobia and transphobia from the author’s perspective, just as a warning. But I can’t wait for my brain to cooperate with me so i can read it :)

Relationship: I’m dating my lovely partner, @s-ublimedyke (any pronouns). We’ve been dating since July 2023, so almost two years! We knew each other as friends for a year or two, then had way too long of a Talking(TM) phase bc we were both too scared to admit feelings. But we did it! and I love them to death <3

Latest Obsession: Cats!!! I’m in the process of adopting two kitties, and I simply can’t get enough of them. Sublime can vouch for me, but I’m wayyyyyyy overthinking everything having to do with cat ownership and researching every little thing. Maybe it’s too much, but i want to give my angels the best life possible. Meet Korra (gray tabby) and Bolin (black cat)!

Last Google Search: I looked up Clifford the Big Red Dog! It was my favorite show/book series as a young child, and I realized I didn’t actually know all that much about the author and how the series came to be. Fun fact, it was originally published in 1963! Also fun fact, I share a name with a character from the series. No I won’t specify, but mutuals can probably parse it out. I like to think that my parents named me after that character, which led to me loving that series as a child.

Currently working on: In relation to my obsession paragraph, I’m working on getting my house properly unpacked from moving and fully cat-proofed. I’ve only been in my place for a month and a half; part of which i spent out visiting my partner and another part I spent sick as a dog for two whole weeks. Just gotta get the rest of my brain on board with doing stuff again

I did community theater from ages 10-18, and still am a massive theater nerd. I do try to be normal about it, but unfortunately it is a core aspect of my personality

I’m the eldest of three kids. I have a younger brother and sister

I studied American Sign Language for 7 years, including into college. I’m a little rusty with it now, but I loved learning it and want to use it more frequently in the future

and a question... how long did it take to learn the alphabet for those fans who did it, we're wondering.

almost a month ago, when the shell's mental state was very much bad, we finally managed to fall asleep and met said vessel in the Inner City we often walk through in our dreams, introduced him to an earthly relative's projection like "here's a fellow cult leader, a nice guy, very creative" (yes a comical moment, also indicating none of this is objectively real). and later there was a moment, head to head under his hood, [1]. eyes, of course, closed - asked him to keep my eyes covered with his warm, solid blackened hand, just in case if i open them accidentally. both hidden under the black fabric, the mask is off, [2], its inner surface is rough wavy lines, as if it's been cut and carved with claws; i'm seeing it with my hands, tracing the lines, and my brain is picturing the surface in soft wooden ochre, realising what exactly the moment and all the details symbolise (none of this Freudian bullshit, just in case). some jokes about Amon and Korra included. autumn, favourite campus paths, all is golden and rusty and hazy a bit, and warm. and not quite verbal, yet said (kinda telepathy? it wasn't someone else's voice) [3].

and it was not. and that's why we carved, burned and painted that found piece of driftwood. the story neither belongs to certain humans nor hurts them, so it's here. similar height, similar smiles, just the other side. we will probably never attend a ritual, so this is all we have.
