I’m reading a Stucky fic set during the war.

I was absolutely delighted that the author mentioned Hedy Lamarr.

Steve is telling the Howlies that she and Howard Stark were working on some stuff together.

Because in the MCU world that isn’t at all out of the question. In fact, the two of them together could potentially do more than either of them might do separately.

So I was just “chef’s kiss” to this piece of brilliance. I’m surprised other fic writers hadn’t thought to do it.

Of course Howard might try to seduce her but I’m certain she would just punch him and tell him to get back to fucking work (well actually I dunno if she cursed. I’d like to think so 😉)

Nowadays, however, little mattered for anyone to really find themselves within the way outside of Mario’s home. He wasn’t the official hero of the Mushroom Kingdom any longer, nor was there any tactical need to claim an area outside of the castle regions that offered no particularly useful resource benefits. It was just a quiet woods for some to get lost in, and if they found the correct way, they could make it to the legendary hero’s home, but…there wasn’t much to find from that visit either. Mario had little to offer, after all, having led a humble life even after years of protecting the kingdom’s princess, and for a short time, their monarch family.

He carried on through the woods, eventually reaching the clearing that led out from one side. It was a connecting road, one that several travelers would take from various kingdom locations. But the space itself was rather plain, a grassy and soft dirt coated area, and little ever brought to the area. A pair of benches once upon a time were added, giving the setting almost a park vibe. Otherwise, stumps of trees that had fallen or been cut down served as seating for the area.

There was a surprise waiting in one of the benches that made Mario’s heart skip a beat, one that he hadn’t seen in years. White receding hair had mixed with the paler red, but the shape still resembled a flame nonetheless. Horns and spikes had dulled, but were likely still sharp enough to hurt any who drew near. Wrinkles around his red eyes and his brow, though it was the same spot for thick eyebrows forming to a dark glare. Something of a maned beard formed below his fanged mouth, almost resembling a lion’s mane; the color made it just a bit less impressive. Perhaps there was a little less weight to his arms and more around the middle, yet it hardly deviated from the menacing form that he held over Mario for so long, so many battles.

Perhaps a mere minute went by for Mario to quietly observe former King Bowser before the great Koopa noticed him enter the clearing. His eyes widened at the sight of the old plumber, and he snarled, stomping at the ground, and forcing himself up from the bench.

“Mario!” Bowser growled. His voice was lower, scratchier, but menacing all the same. “Trying to sneak up on me, is that it? Think you can get to me at a moment of weakness?”

“What? No, that’s not it.” Mario scratched at his head. “Why are you even out here and away from your castle?”

“That place belongs to King Bowser the Second, not me, not anymore.” He pointed forward at Mario. “You, on the other hand, will always belong to me, as my eternal nemesis!”

“Do you seriously have to pick a fight—?”

“Always!”

Rearing his head back, Bowser started to form a fireball in his throat and mouth.

Huh, I guess that's a bad end there, right? ...Oh wait, there is more to the story, as it seems!

Taliesin’s opening with a 2-minute speech by a bureaucrat about cat show policy disagreements was (1) hilarious, and (2) a brilliant way to reset the players’ anxiety to zero. The players were antsy in the intro because they knew the genre, and getting them to laugh at the banality of the setting released tension right off the bat.
