Why I think the Madrigals believed Bruno to be dead
The adults only speak about him in past tense. "Bruno didn't care about this family". As far as she knows, if he's still alive and not back it means he actively still doesn't care about the family, so why not say that? Félix also speaks in past tense ("You better figure it out, because it was coming for you"). Julieta's "My brother Bruno lost his way in this family" makes sense regardless of whether she thought he'd died or not, but to me it does sound very final. Pepa cannot even hear his name without thundering. With the amount of love she has for him, the thought that he might have made himself a happier life in a town that does not shun him should bring her at least a bit of comfort, but she's inconsolable even after so much time. I'm sure there are more examples of this and if I can think of them, I'll add them in the replies.
The door going dark. Now, we know it stopped being lit because he had decided not to use his power anymore, but it makes far more sense for it to be because he couldn't use his power anymore (because he was dead). Casita, much like Bruno, can tell the future, so she knew he was going to use it again, the vow did not really count for anything. Are you telling me that anytime a family member leaves their room and considers not using their power for a while their door goes black?? It makes a lot more sense for the family to have thought he had died. The same applies for Casita not being able to help inside the room: it sounds like a metaphor for the Madrigals not being able to help Bruno anymore.
The deleted scene. In the "Chores!" deleted scene, Félix talks about a fight Bruno had with the family (possibly even the moment he left the family?). In this scene, Bruno displays actual suicidal tendencies ("I wish I was dead!"), and, when he leaves, his room starts rotting and decaying. This scene was removed in the final movie, because it is clearly too dark for kids, but we have no reason to believe that it is not still canon in the universe, as we can see that his room is actually decaying and falling apart. If a family member tells you they wish they were dead and then disappear leaving no trace, it is not a crazy jump to think they are not still alive, especially considering the next point.
Bruno left behind most of his belongings. We do not know how much stuff Bruno had in the first place, but when he leaves his room after the vision, we do not see him holding a bag (or anything really) and even if it's there, it is definitely not a bag big enough to sustain someone leaving their home for good. The stuff he has in the walls was likely gathered long after his family had stopped searching for him. He also has no money and the social skills of a rat, where was he even going??
The room falling apart. Not entirely sure about this, but I think the characters' rooms reflect somewhat the emotional state of their owners (Isabela's room in What Else Can I Do + if I'm not mistaken, Camilo's room is supposed to change colour based on his mood like a chameleon). This is further demonstrated by the stairs, which had been growing for years before Bruno actually left. This is a bit of a stretch, but I think the family could have seen one of two alarm bells in the decaying room: a) Bruno's room was decaying like him (kinda gruesome, but it makes some semblance of sense); b) it did not change at all for 10 years. I don't think rooms change only when their owner is in them, so Bruno's emotional state supposedly not changing for so long is alarming. But again, this point is the one that convinces me the least.
Dolores. Dolores mentions hearing Bruno in the walls three (3) times, in the movie alone: in We Don't Talk About Bruno, at breakfast ("and the rats talking in the walls") and in All of You. It's been ten years and she still mentions him constantly, so she's probably been talking about it since the very beginning, but no one believed her. So, a child keeps hearing their relative who disappeared without a trace in their family home, without seeing him and with everyone saying it wasn't possible. Logical conclusion? It's a ghost.
The family's reactions to him returning. Alma is the most striking. It takes quite a long time for her shocked face to wear off. Julieta is equally shocked as well, like she'd never expected to see him ever again. It could also be she just didn't expect him to come back. Pepa looks relieved, like she'd been on edge for 10 years and can finally know peace. Why would that be? The fact that he's back does not mean they are going to rekindle their relationship, but it does mean that she gets a new chance to show him she loves him, being the first to run to hug him. Her eyebags also show many a sleepless nights tossing and turning, maybe feeling guilty because she hadn't shown him her love enough and she thought she never could again.
Bonus: "The mountains around the Encanto are pretty tall!" In this scene, after Bruno says this sentence, he makes a weird face, like he's already considered how tall the mountains are and he's trying to understand if Mirabel caught onto that.

Mirabel headcanons
Mirabel Braulina Rojas Madrigal. Born 6th of March 1935
Childhood
Mama’s girl
Was a natural mediator. She generally doesn't like arguments and starts tearing up when somebody yells, even if it's not at her.
Was very close to Luisa prior her ceremony. Hovewer, because of it, Mirabel was actually way more hurt by gentle distancing with Luisa rather than mych more agressive and bad relationship with Isabela.
Started learning embroidery in school and developed a great interest in it. (School in a rural Colombia would definitely teach about managing the household and self-care.)
Wasn't actually close to Bruno prior him leaving. In fact, they had barely interacted with eachother at all. Bruno was isolating himself for the most part by the point Camilo and Mirabel were born. And Mirabel was blamed for Bruno leaving
Mirabel got her eyes checked at the Christmas, few days prior Camilo's ceremony. Her sisters were checked too several times during their childhood
Teenage years pre-movie
She didn't play "mother's" role for Antonío. Antonío sees her as a big sister, not parent fugure. And Mirabel wasn't forced to babysit newborn all days long. Especially without an adult supervision.
Isabela and Mirabel were getting agressive and snarky with each other around Isabela's Quinceañera and just got worse over the years. At the same time Luisa was using chores as a way to escape more and more.
Mirabel was/is a far better student than the rest of grandkids. Both because she wasn't distracted by her gift during the school time and she has a huge amount of patience and ability to focus.
Of course she is losing to her sisters (and everyone else) in terms of physical strength.
Mirabel would walk around Encanto for hours after her parents tried to talk about her feelings. Just hoping that they would forget.
Likes showing what she made but is very nervous if she has to work in front of someone's eyes.
Mirabel acts like the family's cheerleader. Constantly praising them amd making her entire outfit dedicaded to them rather than to herself.
She is using optimism as a coping mechanism. Félix was probably a huge inspiration for her
Would never think bad about her family or think about leaving them.
Post-movie
Still has nightmares about Casita's fall. Usually she goes to Luisa (Or Luisa just grabs her) as one of the closest relationship she has. (Second to only Antonío, but he is a child  and Luisa is the family protector)
will NOT become the next matriarch/candleholder.
Her future job is clothes design and decoration. She will be the one to decorate clothes for the next gen. (And her own when they would need new)
Repairs relationship with her sisters during the rebuilding.
Mirabel stops acting all cheery and outgoing most of the time now that she doesn't show off her family. She will gladly tell evwryone about her family, but she doesn't feel like she has to run all over the place for this
Sane way to her sisters, Mirabel won't get perfect in just one day. She still blames herself, feels like she has to make up for her lack of a gift and other. It rakes a while to heal
Relationships:
To put it shortly, Mirabel wasn't close to any adults in the family. They essentially grow closer but as teenager, Mirabel isn't really interested in spending time with them.
Her relationship with Abuela took a lot of work, for the most part during the rebuilding. Hearing Alma's stoty helped a lot because of Mira's compassionate nature but it didn't fix all the issues. They are getting there
Out of the adults, Mirabel is the closest to her mom. Tho pre-movie Mira tended to avoid her as felt she didn't deserve attention and affection. But is definitely closer to hwr and has warmer relationship compared to the others.
Mirabel is also very good with Félix as they both tend to act as emotional support and try to find positive sides even in the worst situations.
Pepa aprecciates Mirabel and how she teaches Antonío like a sibling. Generally finds their relationship very sweet. But they also not very close. Not on bad terms, they like eachother. But they won't spend much time together either.
Mirabel finds her dad somebody relieving.  Despite being closer to Julieta, she will much rather go to him if there's something wrong and she needs to talk with an adult. As Agustín doesn't do nearly as much emotional support (he still does, but nobody can beat Julieta.) And they actually can seem closer because spend more time together. Mirabel was a bit more comfortable around Agustín and Félix pre-movie as they were giftless too. Hence why Isabela thought that Mirabel is Agustín's fav.
She gets to know Bruno better, but they aren't very close. Again, taking the fact that they never really spoke prior her ceremony and all the blaming. And Bruno would at first het close with his own generation rather than kids.
Dolores enjoys Mirabel's quiet company. Especially as two relatively responsible members in the family they tend to get along really well. And emboidery isn't a loud hobby either so Dolores prefers it to whatever the others are doing.
Mirabel finds Camilo very annoying. They aren't really close. Pretty much the same fashion as Dolores and Luisa where both prefer anybody else. But as Camilo and Mirabel are teens they also tend to he way more sarcastic and bitter with eachother. As oppose to just not spending time together.
Antonío is still Mirabel's number one friend. They grow apart as he gets a lot of animal friends now. But both are still close to eachother and will happy bond together whenever they can

How do you think the canon Madrigals' rooms look after Casita fall?
Julieta's and Pepa's would remain mostly the same, I feel.
Bruno's would look completely different: The fuckass mountain is gone, so is the sand. His room actually looks like a room, with green walls, wood floors, and a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, etc etc. There's a small side room which leads to a very nice vision cave, with soft white sand and a water feature. Also, you know those like...cat obstacle courses that people make, where they have tubes and platforms attached to the upper walls? Bruno has those for his rats.
Isabela's would also look different: You step into the room and get a insta headache from all the colors. She basically turns her room into a botany laboratory, and preforms plant experiments there. She's also more messy now, and leaves her clothes laying around everywhere. Her bed remains the same, because I think it's cool.
We never see Dolores' or Camilo's room, but I imagine they'd also be mostly the same.
Luisa's room, taking from the concept art, would have a complete makeover: Her room goes from stone and hardcore training grounds to a relaxing tropical paradise. There's pillows, blankets, and soft things everywhere, a relaxing burbling fountain, and the whole room smells of lavender.
I already wrote about Mirabel's new room XD
Antonio's room would also stay pretty much the same at first, but I imagine as he matures, it would change a little.

Giant siren au
Antonio meet human child ( his age) im just curious to see how these completely different species of kids or babies interact with each other ( I don’t know how old Antonio is) it could probably start off with the human kid being lost and scared and antonio sorta goes hakuna matata just cheering him up or up to you how it goes, I just wanna see the interaction lol your ideas are better. (Maybe this would be one of the closest friendships between human and siren or up2u)
Also what r the giant siren madrigals fav sea food if they have any
from what i saw on one of yo asks, I can just imagine Luisa holding a human whos freaking out and she’s like “ what’s so dangerous about this tiny thing” Isa: idk 🤷‍♀️
Speaking of which What really scares them about humans? I mean these sirens are HOOGE right?
This one’s a little fun, joke au
Giant mer augustin meets jack sparrow
j: I gotta jar of dirt 🤪
Augustin: ( is just super interested cause there’s mostly sand in Encanto, and also cause a human finally doesn’t run off… cuz jacks crazy probs)
This mer Encanto au is awesome 👏 nice work 👍
Up to you if ya wanna do this ask lol no rush time is precious
WAZAAAAAAAAAUP
Of course I can answer <333 so Antonio is 5. Still the same age, Giant sirens only age weird when they grow outta their shells 🤠 as for interacting with kids, he essentially views him as another siren guppy. He doesn’t actually know he’s human until they’re swimming and the human kid has to keep going up for water. But he really likes him.
Human children are actually viewed as harmless. And giant sirens actually feel the need to protect them, especially if they’re alone. Often, they’ll try and protect the child from adult humans, even their parents. This can result in human children being taken from the shore, which is a big factor in the giant sirens and humans beef. Giant sirens don’t think human children are fit to be with adult humans, and will only return them if the child is obviously distressed, albeit reluctantly. Human children have been found in giant shells before when returned.
Tumblr media
Madrigals like she’ll fish, like crabs, and lobsters. Deep sea fish are liked as well ⁉️⁉️ Specifically, off the top of my head. Isabela, Julieta and Camilo like giant squid. Pepa, Dolores, Agustín, Mirabel and Antonio likes shark. Bruno, Luisa, Fèlix and Alma like orca <333
Fear wise, Giant sirens know that humans can make things that can kill them. And for decades, centuries even, humans have hunted giant sirens for fun. It’s not as common anyway, but it still happens. And humans have made huge, and I mean massive spears that came launched into a sirens chest, which will instantly kill them. Not even a second to process, it’s an instant death. Giant Sirens don’t like ships. So they will crash them if the feel they have to.
Agustín would be very confused. Very 😭 another reason to find humans in general harmless. They’re so goofy, he doesn’t understand the fear. Besides hunters of course.
I’m glad you like the AU⁉️⁉️

so I finally watched Encanto. cue Madrigal feels bc what am I, if not on brand.
also please note, I’m a white, Slavic girl living in Central Europe so I probably didn’t get a lot of the Latinx subtext in the movie.
man, first of all, all of the Bruno feels.
Bruno must have had it so hard all his life. the only man in the family, he must have felt the pressure of supporting everyone. and the triplets presumably received their gifts at the same time and it must’ve been scary for each of them in different ways. Pepa obviously, because how do you ask a five-year-old to control their moods because a tantrum can cause a hurricane? Julieta is a different case because cooking is not an obvious gift, so maybe for a while she thought that her siblings got gifts but she didn’t?
and Bruno got future vision. at age 5. it must have been terrifying. no wonder he’s one bundle of anxiety.
I was wondering why Pepa and Julieta were rather late mothers, but now that I think of it, they must have been scared that their kids would get gifts as well. and these gifts would be just as scary.
Dolores and Isabela are both 21 which means Pepa and Julieta were both 29 when they had them. and man, while Isabella’s gift is innocent enough, Dolores’s is also kinda terrifying because imagine hearing all sorts of stuff at age 5. no wonder Julieta had her second child two years later (Luisa is 19) but Pepa waited 6 years (Camilo is 15) and then another 10 (Antonio is 5).
because Camilo’s gift is also kinda scary. Julieta’s daughters got off easy. Pepa’s children? not so much.
and then Mirabel got no gift at all. and she saw it as a bad thing, as did Alma, but you can’t tell me the triplets weren’t secretly a little grateful. Pepa and Bruno at least.
Antonio’s gift is scary too, when you think about it. I bet he is gonna convince everyone to become vegan, isn’t he?
but back to Bruno.
Alma’s trauma response was the expectation of perfection from her family. but man, what expectations she must have had from Bruno, who could never replace her Pedro but who must have felt like he should. like he should be the man of the family. on top of his scary visions. I kinda think his invention of Hernando and Jorge was a little bit trying to find a version of himself that was good enough for everyone when he felt he wasn’t.
think about how everyone thinks Bruno was mischievous, when in reality he was a nervous goofball.
his disappearance… one doesn’t make such a decision hastily. I can’t imagine him hiding in the walls on a whim. I can see him finding the hidden room and hiding out there as a child… and then, after Mirabel doesn’t get a gift and he has his last vision, he goes to his safe place and just… never leaves. the family has another Madrigal man with a gift in Camilo.
for some reason I don’t think Bruno got along well with either of his sisters’ husbands. Felix and Agustin are clearly in love with their wives and happy to take on a more supportive role in the family whereas Bruno probably think he ought to be the patriarch… when he’s anything but. he must’ve felt lonely.

First, a note. I actually forgot a door right where I put the label “1st floor”. There is a little green door there, I put a picture in the section titles “Camilo’s dance hallway”
Ok disclaimer all these screenshots came from YouTube so my apologies in advance for the quality of some of these.
The 3rd floor
The “3rd floor” is just a few rooms. On the right is “Bruno’s tower”, or more specifically, the entrance to Bruno’s tower (aka his magic door).
In the middle is the room that they keep the candle. Based on the flashback to when Abuela was young, this seems to be her bedroom. There are no stairs to enter from the outside, so it stands to reason that it is only accessible through her magic door, though we do not know what the bottom level of her room looks like.
There is also an area on the left that has some windows (on the outside) but it’s unclear what this is, who it belongs to, and how to access it. It’s possible all of this is Abuela’s space, but I also have the theory that it may be Antonio’s, and that taller magic rooms manifest their height on the outside of the house (Bruno’s tower is obvious, but Isabela seems to have a bit of a tower as well).
Bruno’s tower - 2nd floor
There’s this weird empty space near the stairs next to Luisa’s room. It seems to just be a wall, and based on the outside I’m simply assuming it’s part of Bruno’s tower and it’s inaccessible from the main part of the house.
Mirabel’s magic door
Each kid is on the same side of the hall as their parent (Pepa’s kids are all on the “left”, Julieta’s are on the “right”). Based on the weirdly large gap between Luisa and Isabela’s doors, it’s safe to assume that Mirabel’s was supposed to be in between them (which is why I drew an empty spot despite not labelling it.
During the flashback to Mirabel’s ceremony we actually see Abuela’s photos in the background (the ones where she poses with all the kids). This seems to just be an error though, since these photos are between Abuela and Pepa’s doors, and Pepa’s door is clearly not visible in Mirabel’s flashback but is VERY visible when Antonio gets his door.
It’s also possible that they just moved the pictures lol. If that’s the case, then is means the pictures used to be on the wall outside the nursery.
Inside the walls
Unfortunately, I could not map out the path Bruno and Mirabel take inside the walls. The sequence is all over the place, so the only things I know for sure are the entrance point (just beside Dolores’ door) and Bruno’s wall-room (which we know if behind the family tree mural in the dining room).
In all technicality, the inside of the walls shouldn’t be as easy to navigate as the movie shows. There should be a lot of doors and windows that block a walking path, but it’s possible we just don’t see them (this could also be why Bruno does so much parkour; he’s avoiding the windows).
Pepa’s corner room?
On my layout of the first floor, I labeled the corner room as “Pepa room”. This is NOT her magical room, but instead the area we see here
We never see this room again and have no idea how it connects to the house, since we don’t have any other angles and we never see any doors leading to it. We do see a door on the right of the area I labeled “walkthrough”, and since we never see what’s inside that door, it lead me to believe it might be this isolated room where Pepa can go calm down (notice the raindrops, weather vane, and picture of Antonio. This is a room she goes to a lot).
You may be wondering if this is instead Pepa’s magical room, but I don’t think it is. We see this room just after Mirabel runs down some very tight stairs inside the walls. The fact that stairs could fit in the walls here led me to believe that they were in the walls of Bruno’s tower (perhaps the part I marked as “inaccessible” on the 2nd floor), which just so happens to be above this room on the layout.
Either way, the fact that Mirabel ran DOWN stairs from the second floor means she was now on the first floor, which means this is not Pepa’s magic room.
Patio
We see the family gather to eat breakfast on this little patio area outside. There are two doors that lead here, one from the dining room and the other from the kitchen.
I couldn’t include pictures because I hit the limit, but you can see the dining room doors very clearly during the dinner scene. The doors are directly across the family tree.
Pedro’s portrait and the entrance
Just before Antonio’s gift ceremony, we get to see how the stairwell with Pedro’s portrait connects to the house.
Mirabel and Antonio come down the Pedro stairs and into the room with the flower curtain. When the curtain opens, we see Antonio is standing in the entrance foyer (if you look closely, you can even see the door to the nursery above him).
The one error
Surprisingly, this movie did a very good job of making the character move around the house in a logical way. Every time I saw a character go from one area to another, I’d follow their path on my map and find that it worked! The ONLY time there is ever an error is at the very start of the movie. Mirabel slides down the Pedro stairs before we see this:
We see the nursery door in the top left and the foyer below it, and Mirabel is walking through the “general living space” (in other scenes, we see this area sometimes has hammocks, couches, and a coffee table set up). Based on the way she’s walking though, she would technically be going into Pedro’s staircase.
When I first started mapping this out, this scene actually threw me off because I assumed she was going to the dining room. But after going through every other scene in the movie, I realized that this scene was just a little wrong.
To make this all make sense, we can just assume that she simply wandered around between shots.
Camilo’s dance hallway
During we don’t talk about Bruno”, Camilo has a little sequence in this… random hallway
Thanks to the quality of these screenshots, I had to boost the image on the top right to show that there’s a door behind him.
I initially had no idea where this hall is supposed to be, but I figured it out; it’s the area I labelled “walkthrough” on the first floor (directly under Abuela’s room). The walls are the same, the green door is in the right place, and even though it’s not in the screenshots, Camilo DOES pass those wall sconces during his dance. The floor is even the same, all he did was move the furniture out of the way.
Anyways, that’s all. Thanks for reading!
If this gets enough love (or I see a demand for it) maybe I’ll make a fully coloured version with detail and stuff.

Floorplan of the Casa Madrigal (Encanto)
I didn't see anything about this online, so I went through the movie and managed to map out the house as best I could. Keep in mind that the bedroom sizes aren't accurate since they are magic.
If you care to read some very in-depth analysis about this house, check out everything under the cut

When I first started mapping this out, this scene actually threw me off because I assumed she was going to the dining room. But after going through every other scene in the movie, I realized that this scene was just a little wrong.
To make this all make sense, we can just assume that she simply wandered around between shots.
Camilo's dance hallway
During "we don't talk about Bruno", Camilo has a little sequence in this... random hallway
Tumblr media
Thanks to the quality of these screenshots, I had to boost the image on the top right to show that there's a door behind him.
I initially had no idea where this hall is supposed to be, but I figured it out; it's the area I labelled "walkthrough" on the first floor (directly under Abuela's room). The walls are the same, the green door is in the right place, and even though it's not in the screenshots, Camilo DOES pass those wall sconces during his dance. The floor is even the same, all he did was move the furniture out of the way.
Anyways, that's all. Thanks for reading!
If this gets enough love (or I see a demand for it) maybe I'll make a fully coloured version with detail and stuff

✴ Relationships and Losses of Lucero Escarra ✴
Lucero's never really been one to hang out often, mostly because they're busy 24/7 and had no time at all. Butttt- there are some friends, and of course that one humongous crush. So, 'ere are ze relationships (italics said with a French accent)
Uno: La Familia Escarra
madre • Helena Rosalia Escarra (The Owner of Encanto's Most Famous Bakery)
la amistad: They get along insanely well, they basically invented banter, taught Lucero latin, loves her daughter and is extremely proud of her. Supportive no matter what and the first person Lucero came out to. Got Lucero into Shakespeare and violin.
padre • Samuel Castillo Escarra (Captain of East Encanto's Football (soccer) Team)
la amistad: The reason why Lucero knows English fluently (they talk in it together all the time and Helena gets angry because she can't understand a word) always supports her, though is a bit of an outcast compared to his wife's bakery and his daughter's fame. Extremely supportive, though he did take a while to process Lucero's coming out since he was worried that he was a bad parent since they didn't tell him before. Got his daughter into football (soccer).
hermana • Camren Rosalía Escarra
la amistad: They are best friends, love eachother dearly and don't have many fights, compete against eachother a lot and read together. Lucero FINALLY got her into Shakespeare though it took several months of convincing from them and her mother. Is also bisexual and has a crush on (my au) Mirabel's twin sister Marabella.
Dos: Mi amigos y Mi amor
mejor amiga (1) • Mirabel Madrigal
la amistad: Even though Lucero is older than her, they get along insanely well. Lucero is like a sister to her and a role model to look up to (said by her abuela) they go on adventures together and Lucero always is on her side, protecting her from her abuela when needed.
mejor amiga (2)• Dolores Madrigal
la amistad: These two would win the bsf of the year award (if that was even a thing) every. single. god. damn. year ever since they met. They're each others only friend (that's of their age) and support eachother no matter what. When telling her mother, Dolores accidentally found out Lucero was bi, but Lucero knew that she heard so they were glad the other person that found out was her best friend. They talk about each others crushes together (well Dolores talks about Mariano, Lucero at the start doesn't necessarily like their crush. It evolves into something more as the movie goes on) They're platonic soulmates and no one says otherwise.
crush • Isabela Madrigal
la amistad: Surprise, Lucero has fallen for "señorita perfecta" Isabela. Of course it wasn't love at first sight, Mirabel told Lucero stories of how Isa was mean and such to her so Lucero gave her a slight cold shoulder. They didn't know each other well at the start of the movie, but that changed when Dolores invited Lucero to a movie night at La Casa Madrigal. Soon they got to know the family (Well, they already knew Pepa, Félix, Antonio, Mirabel, Agustín and Julieta) And bonded with them. This small event made the family closer to the famous Escarra family- which was the next after the Madrigals. They gradually became friends, then during the happenings of the movie where Lucero is helping Mirabel, they finally realise they like Isabela. Later on there was an event that made them realise that they actually love her. And what happens at the end when they are re-building Casita? 🤫
This song describes Lucero's and Isabela's relationship, so enjoy!
Tres: Pérdidas familiares
Luckily, no one in the family has died yet- except the great grandparents and the ancestors. But those are obvious.
In my au (building it up on Ao3- same user as my tumbr just an underscore instead of a dash) Lucero's grandparents were close friends of Alma and Pedro, and suffered a lot when Pedro sacrificed himself. Frederíc almost joined him because he knew that he couldn't do it alone. Luckily that's when the miracle happened, so he's still alive and well.

Every Madrigal has a sort of, side effect, to their gifts.
Camilo has to eat twice as much as normal and sleeps a ton because of all the energy shapeshifting needs. He also has to carry around a picture of himself, since he forgets what he looks like.
Isabela doesn't do well in the dark. She's slow and tired, and while she doesn't need to eat much she does drink a lot more than anyone else.
Dolores gets overstimulated super easy, that much is obvious. After being overstimulated, however, everything goes completely silent. She can't hear anything. Even years after it started happening she still panics.
Julieta can't feel pain. She'll be cooking for hours and come out of it with burns on her hands and wrists, unable to feel it. Her own cooking also doesn't work on her as well as it would someone else. While another person's cut will dissapear completely with her food, if she had the same cut it would simply scab over.
Bruno gets mini visions throughout the day, just small flashes of a possible future or action. He's physically incapable of telling the difference between these mini visions and real life. He'll be going to ask Abuela a question only to see a mini flash or her getting upset and he gets upset in turn, only for it to turn out he still had yet to ask his question. He also has frequent migraines
Pepa is physically incapable of feeling anything mildly. For her emotions it's either all or nothing. She can't feel just a little upset that her favourite dress has a new tear, she's devastated to the point that everything's flooding. She can't be just a bit happy with the gift a family member has painstakingly made her, she's overjoyed to the point the encanto experiences a mini drought.
Luisa doesn't feel tired. Whether it's the fatigue from working/exercising or even just generally feeling tired at the end of a long day, she doesn't feel it. It's resulted in multiple pulled muscles and passing out from lack of sleep.
Antonio has long periods of time where he can't understand anyone but his animals, like the people around him are all speaking in a completely different language.

Little things I’ve noticed about the costume design in Encanto
In no particular order because I can’t put my thoughts into a cohesive line even if I tried…
1. Colors
The original triplets have their own colours: Julieta - Teal, representing her powers of healing, Pepa - Yellow, because she always needs to be happy and not ruin the weather, Bruno - Green, because green can represent both good and evil
Pepa’s family are wearing yellow. Felix, who married into the family, also wears yellow but with his own touch of orange stripes. The children are wearing yellow for their mom and have stripes for their dad.
Tumblr media
Agustin’s clothes are white and dark blue which compliment Julieta’s teal. Luisa is wearing white and dark blue like her father and Mirabel is wearing white top and a skirt that goes from teal to blue, a little from both parents.
Tumblr media
The last one is Isabela who is wearing violet. A combination beween her family’s blue colors and her grandmother’s magenta dress, representing her falling into the role of the golden child of Abuela.
Tumblr media
2. Mirabel’s dress
Mirabel has a little from everyone. Starting from the basic design that is a white top and blue skirt just like Luisa, her skirt has teal for her mother and blue like her father.
Now to the details. Her dress has a candle and is full of butterflies, representing the miracle; the butterfly on her shoulder is the same colour as the flower on her father. She has embroidered flowers for Isabela, has a cloud for Pepa and a leopard for Antonio.
Tumblr media
3. Camilo
Camilo is wearing the colours of his family, but in contrast to all the men in the village who are wearing suits and shirts, Camilo is dressed like his tio Bruno.
Tumblr media
4. Dolores
Dolores is wearing a cute red pattern with a red bow, two things that only one other family member has - Luisa.
Tumblr media
5. Antonio
The little guy has a red scarf around his neck that is the same colour as his sister’s necklace.
Tumblr media
6. Isabela
At the end of the movie, when Isabela realises she can create more things than just roses, she changes her dress to dark blue - the colour of her father and Luisa, and she adds different colour patterns just like Mirabel.

Madrigal Family Game Night Headcanons
I felt like this deserved its own kind of headcanon posts since I have a LOT of thoughts about this theme in particular!
Let’s get one thing straight: there is never a peaceful game night with this family.
Anytime they play Monopoly, Luisa or Félix are always the bankers. They're the most trustworthy with the money and less likely to succumb to peer-pressure during games.
As I've said before, Isabela is (in theory) BANNED from competitive games. We all know why…
Whenever a game of Uno is down to Bruno and Pepa, best believe it’s going to be the funniest night. Those two can insult each other for days and still be pulling cards.
When it’s between Julieta and Pepa, it’s like a quick draw match between who would get Uno and Uno out first. The tension is h e a v y.
Julieta is a little easier on Bruno, until he starts talking trash. Then it’s a battlefield.
Dolores is an absolute threat at Monopoly because of the amount of dirt she has on every family member.
Abuela is still the champion of card games to this day.
If you let Mirabel and Julieta team up, you automatically have made the biggest threat of a team in existence.
For personal reasons, Camilo is terrified to play Twister with Luisa. One game, she slipped and fell smack on top of him; the kid’s whole soul left their body.
Antonio, surprisingly, takes after his mama with his competitiveness. Camilo and Mirabel learned this the hard way by playing Hungry Hungry Hippos with him.
Camilo’s favorite game is Sorry. Because no, they’re not sorry. Not in the slightest.
Mariano is somehow a genius when it comes to Connect 4.
Literally he almost always wins. Whenever anyone thinks they’re in the clear, he comes in out of nowhere with a connect 4. He doesn’t even plan it!
Luisa cannot for her life play Operation, her nerves get way too worked up and she WILL cry if the board buzzes on her.
Bruno and Agustín sometimes play Mancala in their own peaceful version of a game night.
All the grandkids get together to play Cards Against Humanity and it’s always the funniest night of their lives.
One time Alma walked in at the worst time and nearly got a heart attack from what she heard. She couldn’t look at any of them the same for the next week.
Just Dance is a must-have in this family. You already know Pepa and Félix are heavily invested in the game.
Mirabel and Camilo goes HARD for each song, copying the moves STEP by STEP. Isabela and Dolores are the type to just wave their remotes, doing the bare minimum. Luisa and Antonio are the only ones who just do whatever for the sake of having fun.
In team games, Isabela will always team up with Antonio as an excuse to be able to play. She always instigates his competitiveness and makes sure he puts those puppy eyes to good use.
Do not EVER leave Mirabel and Isabela playing against each other in Jenga.
Mirabel could simply let out a hard exhale during Isabela’s turn and Isabela wastes no time throwing a cactus at the girl.
You know that Scrabble meme from Suite Life on Deck? Dolores is Cody and Isabela is Zack.
Bruno 100% uses his gift during Battleships. He “coincidentally” has a vision each and every time he plays against somebody. Everyone is ready to call him out for it every time.
Félix nearly has Chess and Checkers in the bag every time, unless he’s playing against Mirabel. Those two could go on for h o u r s.
Alma gives him such a tough time at Chess too. The lady will watch in amusement as he stresses out a way to get his king out of getting cornered.
The triplets go out of their way to sabotage each other in Mario Kart, no questions. If someone gets caught in the line of fire, that’s their fault.
Everybody has their own Mario Kart main and if anyone decides they want to play as someone else's main, then prepare to duel; Alma is the referee.
Mario Party is BANNED in this household. Alma cannot stand what happens to the family when they play. Husbands were sleeping on couches, the skies were constantly raining, and grandkids were on thin ice with each other before fist fighting over stealing a star.
Wii Sports is ironically the game that the family is calmest over. Until they play boxing. Which turns into boxing in real life.
Agustín is the king of golf. He has the highest score of them all.
Bruno once accidentally flung his remote out the window during tennis and Casita was P I S S E D.
Listen it's all wholesome fun and games in any family until that game night rolls around. That's all for now!

Isabela headcanons

Isabela Belén Rojas Madrigal. Born 7th of August 1928

Childhood
Was the golden child since her birth. Obviously, she wasn't forced into perfection since day one, but still was favourised for being the first grandchild.
Isabela said her first word when being babysat by Pepa and Bruno. Pepa called her brother "dumb". Isabela had repeated. (Can you tell me Pepa wasn't crying from how proud she was?)
Extremely stubborn. You couldn't make her stop if she wanted to do something. No matter how many candy you'd give her.
Used "I'm older so you should listen to me" card all the time. Especially when it came to her sisters.
Friendly teased Luisa for being younger. It didn't happen with Mirabel much because Isabela was busy exploring her cool new gift when she was born.
Was fascinated with flowers. Enjoyed making flower crowns even before getting her gift.
She was slowly rising in perfection even before Mirabel's ceremony. But it wasn't very obvious. Failed ceremony just made the process way faster.

Adult years (pre-movie)

Enjoyed reading about various plants. Could easily give advice about any plant. Did anyone used it? No
Actually pretty good in sport. Had won several award in school, mostly for gymnastics. Probably the second most sportive Madrigal after Luisa.
Made flower crowns manually in her room as a way to distract herself and calm down when she was overwhelmed.
Started to date Mariano because she didn't want to upset him or Abuela. Mariamo was the one to confess his feelings (ableit to his Abuela), Alma didn't set them up.
Had thoughts of running away several times to escape perfectionism and always felt guilty for it.
Started to have gray hair at the age of seventeen. Always styled her hair the way when it would be hidden. As Isabela thought it wasn't perfect
If she has to go on a date with Mariano, she'll try to get them to the meadow. There Isabela could at least withness a beautiful nature.
Disliked Mirabel because felt that her sister wad getting everything without an effort. And was jealous of the fact that their parents were closer to Mirabel. Isabela didn't realize the full extent of how her actions hurt Mirabel too.
Had nearly no relationship with Luisa, taking how busy they both were.
If anyone dared to misgender Dolores, even prior WECID, they would wake to see their house wrapped in roses. Thorns work just as good as cacti.
Post-movie
Changes her dress every odd day. Coloring it, cutting, whatever she can think off. Girl knows no consistence. Her favourite colour also changes constantly. Today it's sky blue, tomorrow will be green and yesterday it was gray.
Same goes for her hair. She regularly paints it. And don't forget glimmering silver! She doesn't hide it anymore.
Julieta cried when she saw Isabela having gray hair. Because it made her realize just how much she had grown up
Experiments with herself all the time. How else should she find herself?
It took her a while to get comfortable with showing her true self to people outside of the family. Sometimes she still wonders if others actually like her.
Grows avocado around just to add it to her food. She's allergic to avocado.
Adds milk to people's coffee just for the sake of it. Only drinks café con leche with an extreme amount of sugar.
The biggest drama queen you could meet.
The favourite niece to both Bruno and Pepa.
The most talkative and outgoing out of her sisters, won't shut up if you say a word about plants and will spend hours talking on it.
Protective. Will join Luisa on fighting whoever had insulted their sister/cousins. If not fight all by herself of course.
Relationship.
Alma: Has a bit hard time with her post-movie. Doesn't hate her grandmother and probably still close to her, but does have troubles with expressing herself to her for the first few years. Eventually gets over it and starts to show her messy side in all its beauty.
Pepa: They are very similar. Isabela adores her Tía. Pepa probably often joins to gossip with Isabela and Dolores. Both are emotional and very dramatic. Pepa also helps Isabela with expressing her emotions via plants with her gift. Same way the weather express her emotions. .
Bruno: Isabela likes her Tío. But feels awkward around him for the time being. The last time she saw him was when she was eleven. And he was barely socialising even back then.. She likes him. And Bruno seems to understand her pretty well, as he was the favourite back in his youth too. She probably the first one ut of grandkids to be comfortable around him.
Julieta: Likes her mother, but they aren't overall close. Isabela is an adult, and way more active and crazy than calm and responsible Julieta.
Agustín: Closer to her dad, expessially as she doesn't smell like flowers all the time anymore. But the thing of being an adult is still in work. It's easier to open up to her Tíos rather than to her parents.
Félix: Cool but pretty distant.
Dolores: Best friend since childhood™, gossip about everything. Isabela was the first person Dolores had confessed her feelings for Mariano after the engagement failed. Attached to the hip and together almost all the time. They were close even when both still were involved into the whole thing with Mariano.
Luisa: Grew closer as both became free from expectations. They like to tease eachother and playfully fight (which is usually Isabela trying to hit Luisa and Luisa blocking her). Isabela uses her muscles as a pillow whenever she wants. Luisa pays the favour by using Isabela as an armrest.
Camilo: Arguing and competitive relationship. Both are active for the sake of being messy. Probably will fight eachother just for the sake of it. Isabela was very jealous of Camilo and found him annoying pre-movie (even more than Mirabel). She still thinks Camilo is annoying but enjoys messing with him.
Mirabel: Now both are pretty cool. They still argue from time to time, but it's never even half as bad as it used to be. Mirabel encourages Isabela from time to time, and Isabela looks after her sister especially when Luisa's not around. Both try to make it up for all the problems in their relationship
Antonío: Wasn't close to him before, giving an age gap. Now adore spending time together as two the most passionate about nature. Isabela often takes Antonío out to show him wild outskirts where he can see many animals
Nicknames:
Isa (by Mirabel, Luisa, Dolores, Agustín and Felíx)
Bela (By Dolores, Luisa, Camilo, Julieta, Pepa, Alma and Bruno)
Hermanita (By Luisa when Isabela annoys her. Or when she wants to annoy Isabela)
Señorita Perfecta. (Mirabel when Isabela annoys her. Other grandkids as a joke. Isabela herself when she refers to her old self)
Mi Flor (Alma, rarely her parents)

My last post about how Bruno got something in common with every one of the Madrigal kids?
How about I take that a step further and make it angst?
What if the sisters notice?
What if Pepa sees her little Dolores listening and snickering at something and when she asks about it Dolores says "Tio Brunos stories". And Pepa will suck in a breath and scold her for pretending and Dolores sees her mother getting upset and the skies turning dark, the clouds growing heavy with tears rain and she will stop mentioning Tio Bruno as she grows older, like they will all stop talking about him soon.
But as the years go by Pepa will still see her daughter tilt her head to listen and smirk and do that little "eep" sound her brother always made when he was surprised by something and even though Dolores always says "It's nothing" when she asks Pepa will keep watching and wonder.
Always wonder.
And she will applaud her Camilo when he shows her a play he has been writing where he plays all the characters himself and she will remember her little brother, pretending to be someone else and desperately insisting that his real gift is acting as the green still fades from his eyes and his brows are knitted over tearfilled eyes in a headache. And she'll see Camilo rubbing his forehead after overdoing it with the shape shifting and her heart aches in sympathy.
And then there is Antonio and his animals. Always so tender and careful even with little bugs, just like her Brunito was careful with the rats he always seemed to find and nurse back to health. She will remember her brother, whispering with the rodents long after he stopped talking to the rest of the family, feeding them crumbs under the table, trying to ignore Mama's disapproving stare. And when she sees her son playing with a rat or a mouse, her heart rate will pick up and she looks around, expecting to see... But she never does.
She never does.
And Julieta looks at her daughter Isabela and how hard she tries to impress her abuela, how every little mistake and imperfection leads to a meltdown until there are no mistakes anymore and her little girl fashions herself into this woman, a blank canvas, walking around town, gifting her flowers to her admirers without pausing, without lingering with anyone or meeting anyone's eyes. An untouchable goddess, just like her brother was this untouchable pariah, sneaking through town not pausing, not lingering, not meeting anyone's eyes but always on the lookout for Mama and her approval.
And Julieta can't stand seeing the same look in her eldest eyes and concentrates on her food and the little injuries because that is something she can fix.
At least this, she can fix.
And Luisa, carrying too much, answering every call for help, no matter how inconvenient no matter how tired she is. No call goes unanswered because helping the town is her duty, this miracle demands a sacrifice for all the wonders it brings them. Just like her mother always forced Bruno to leave his room, urged him to answer every call for a prophecy no matter how much he begs not to. "They will blame me" he always said when he was still small enough to think what he wants should matter. "You are supposed to use your gift. That's why the miracle chose to give it to you" their mother would say and usher him out the door.
And with the years his protests fell silent and he started to shrink right before Julietas eyes until he was gone for good one morning.
And Julieta looks at Luisa and her beloved daughter looks so strong, and present and just "there" and sometimes she looks like she will disappear any moment and Julieta suddenly can't breath.
Mirabel is so much like Bruno, it sometimes hurts to look at her. Their personalities are so very different but their spirit, oh their hearts and souls, they shine with the same warm light.
Julieta often remembers that dreadful night, the tears and the disbelief and the shock and she remembers Bruno, kneeling down by a shell-shocked Mirabel and ruffling her hair and saying "It's okay, Miri"
And she will only later realize that he was the only one.
Everyone else had said things like "It will be okay" or "We will figure this out". Even she herself had held her crying child against her chest and whispered "I'm so sorry corazon. Please don't cry" and her little girl had cried even harder.
But when her brother said "it's okay" her youngest had stopped crying and stared at that tall, disheveled man like he was her whole world and only too late will Julieta realize why.
Her brother was the only one who said what Mirabel needed to hear.
It is okay. You are okay. Nothing needs to evolve into "okay", there is nothing that needs to be fixed. Nothing to be sorry about.
You are perfect, just the way you are.
Julieta doubts that Mirabel remembers. Too small and too traumatized by that night but sometimes she wonders if maybe her daughters heart still remembers after all. When she walks with confidence through the town, when she talks back to a prickly Isa, when she declares, loud and proud, how much she loves her Familia.
Julieta hopes so. She tries to right old wrongs, tries to overshadow her own careless words that night by repeating over and over again how perfect her Miri is, just the way she is.
Julieta fears it's not enough.
Julieta wishes her brother was here to ruffle her daughters hair.
Julietta wishes for a miracle.

okay so i've seen a few people mention this before, but not one comprehensive post yet so here goes.
as others have pointed out, the madrigal family have signs of their gift on their clothes:
Tumblr media
antonio has animals sown onto his vest, like a toucan, capybara, and even his jaguar!
Tumblr media
camilo has chameleons on his ruana to symbol his shape-shifting abilities, and it's actually confirmed that it's also where he got his name from!
Tumblr media
dolores has these transmission lines on her dress to represent sound waves, which you can see are also featured on her door!
Tumblr media
pepa is a bit more of a stretch since her dress isn't really detailed, but her earrings are in the shape of a sun as a nod to her weather-controlling, and the abundance of yellow on her might be symbolism for her sunny disposition? not too sure
Tumblr media
now mirabel might not count since it's never stated what her gift is (if she even has one) but i'm going off a theory that i think fits perfectly with the story, but i think her dress is meant to show her connection to the family and how she brings everyone together, small aspects of all their gifts shown here
Tumblr media
(edit: someone mentioned that she did have something so i'm using a different image since her skirt is not in view) the upper part of luisa's dress is plain and may convey dependability in its simplicity, but her skirt has barbells on them to showcase her strength
Tumblr media
isabela is probably the most straightforward of the family since there are flowers directly on her dress which she creates with her gift, and they change along with her breaking out of that "perfect" mold she was expected to fit
Tumblr media
julieta has ornate floral patterns on the pockets of her apron, which may relate to medicinal herbs that work to the same affect as her home cooking, and the apron specifically is representative of her motherly nature
Tumblr media
(not using the character poster since you can't see anything on the door) so bruno has hourglass detailings on his ruana since he can see into the future
Tumblr media
now alma's gift is technically the miracle of the candle, and nothing about her outfit is particularly special, but one thing of note is how her dress is a different color from the rest of the madrigals
pepa's side of the family has bright warm colors, julieta's has calming cool colors, and bruno's green is a sort of mix of the two, while alma has this mature maroon that singles her out as the matriarchal head of the family
i hope this is a worthwhile contribution to the great encanto fandom on here, and i had quite the time putting this together!
edit: if you check the reblogs you'll see some people mentioning things i didn't notice!

Do you have any more Bruno headcanons? Your one about him being grumpy was perfect lmao
Oh dude
• When he was younger whenever Agustín or Félix came over, Bruno would announce their arrival with the same teasing "PEPA/JULIETA, YOUR BOYFRIEND'S HERE" his eventual nephew would pull. Pepa would get huffy and embarrassed and zap him a little and Julieta would shove extra food into his mouth to shut him up and Bruno would be amused like the bastard "little" brother he is the entire time
• Bruno (and Pepa and Julieta) is a fairly good dancer and singer! Alma taught him and sisters from a young age, wanting the three of them to look nice in a way that she hoped, at the time, was fun for them at the celebrations for years to come. Bruno isn't perfect in either regard, he never was and he's very rusty after all this time, but he can certainly carry a nice tune on his own and could teach his nieces and nephews how to dance (after he relearns how to do it himself first)
• Tío Bruno is the head babysitter, hands down. When all the other adults are out the house and Bruno is left in charge, the young ones think it'll be a piece of cake getting to do whatever they want. Bruno couldn't parent his way out of a paper bag, let alone simply adult his way out. The day would be nothing but fun and freedom
Could not have been more wrong if they tried.
Not only is Bruno strict about the rules that have been left behind, he's also one step ahead of all of them. Bruno uses his gift to glimpse into the near future every handful of minutes to predict when his nephews and nieces are up to some shit.
Antonio about to fall off his jaguar? Bruno is there to (messily) catch him.
Mirabel finally convincing Casita to let her Isabelas room for completely innocent reasons? Bruno walks by and scoops her up and carries her off while she insists wasn't gonna do anything.... well, not anything Isa couldn't deal with
Camilo checks the entire house for Bruno and, when he's certain he is safe, goes to sneak extra snacks he's sure his tía won't miss. And there's his tío, leaning casually against the pantry and pointing Camilo back to the living room.
Now, while he is strict, Bruno isn't all that stern. Yes, he keeps to the rules and keeps the kids all out of trouble, but once the potential "my sisters will kill me if I allow this to happen" situation is handled, Bruno has no problem in being the proper clown uncle he's meant to be. He rides on the animals alongside Antonio to make sure he stays safe while he has his fun, he helps Mirabel plan a prank on her sister that'll result in a lot less Being Grounded, and he brings Camilo a better snack to split than the ones he was after and shrugs as he tells Camilo to tell Julieta that he ate them all himself.
Bruno is 100% the fun uncle, but he isn't going to let you jump off the roof to see if you can fly, especially when your mom told you not to, sorry bout it, kid
• I love the growing headcanon that Bruno can and will sleep just about anywhere at any moment. People move him to somewhere more comfortable if they find him at the table or just straight up curled up like a cat on the floor, but it's starting to become hard to tell if moving him to the couch is a good idea at all. Not because it's bad for him or the furniture, but more so because it starts a chain of people coming to rest with him, often starting with Luisa and just growing from there. Antonio is always a close second and Dolores a third, all three of them claiming Bruno to radiate this kind of calming peace when he's sleeping, but it rarely takes long before half of the Madrigals are crowded and cuddled up on and around the couch, either half awake or fast asleep.
• Bruno adores the feeling of the sun. If he can't be found in the house, he's probably sitting outside or taking a walk in the forest to feel the sunshine on his face after so long without it
• Bruno is very good at doing hair. Growing up with two sisters made him an absolute expert at weaving braids and tying up buns and ponytails and even stylization of them, always wanting his sisters to look good for their dates even if he teased them through the hairpins held between his teeth as he worked. Isabela was ecstatic to find about his skills and comes to him almost every morning to get her hair done and do his in return, giving him a style that he will protect with his life throughout the entire day
