Annoying that the response to deeply legitimate complaints about the quality of clothing being mass produced for all price points (even expensive brands have gotten worse) is to ALWAYS harp on buying second hand and shopping at thrift stores. When that requires much more luck, patience, free time, travel, etc than having quality clothes available anywhere the way they were in living memory, AND those quality second hand clothing become a nonrenewable resource if nothing of quality is being made. Buying thrifted clothes is NOT a long term solution to the fact that even the fabric available at fabric stores is worse than it used to be.

I love both DT big cities, but the view of Solution Nine never fails to make me awestruck. I'm a sucker for this color scheme,,
It seems someone else agrees, so here's Noa and a familiar miqo'te enjoying the view.

Why can't I reblog your old Danny Phantom art?
I turned off the reblogs because I don't like getting notes on five year old art for a fandom I'm not currently active in. For any of my old phan art you're welcome to just like repost them if you'd like to have them, but I won't be turning them back on myself anytime soon.

Okay, so it was technically the Nesk that redirected the comet, but Tobias's choice at the end of MM2 gives us quite the insight into our Bird-Boy, doesn't it?
Of all of the Animorphs Tobias demonstrates that he's the most willing to play god, and he's willing to do it behind his friends' backs.
<I did what had to be done, all right?> Tobias yelled in a blaze of sudden anger. <I did what had to be done. I made the call, so that none of you would have to feel bad about it.>
He justifies it as being the inevitable. He doesn't like it but he sees the pieces of the puzzle and puts them together. The comet's (as good a guess as the asteroid in the 90s) been looming over them since they arrived. There are no Mecora fossils found in the present. Even before the Nesk make their move, he knows.
Night fell, and through the window the comet seemed to fill the sky. I perched where I could watch it. ... I watched the night deepen. I watched the head of the comet. And then, I saw it: a stab of flame that shot from the side of the bright white comet head. Blue flame, at a right angle to the trajectory of the comet. I felt my heart skip a beat.
(Keep in mind the above paragraphs come after he's spent the remainder of the day taking in as much of the Mecora city as he can because "Someone should see all that would be lost, and remember.")
But he's no mere observer at the end of the Mecora's world. See, the Animorphs have a nuke they believe is the only thing that can make a big enough explosion to send them back to their own time. But now the Mecora need it to save their own lives.
And the Mecora ask the Animorphs for it.
It's so huge that they ask. As Marco says, "That's carrying politeness a long way."
Their entire civilization will die without the nuke taking out the comet and they're not willing to force the Animorphs to give it to them. And so the Animorphs vote on it.
Tobias joins the vote to give them the bomb... but
[Ax] was distracted by what I was telling him in private thought-speak. Distracted by what I was asking him to do.
he's already had Ax sabotage it. Because it's what has to happen for the Cretaceous to end and humans to eventually evolve in the future.
The others are horrified by this, of course. But Tobias has already taken it out of their hands.
Also of note is the fact that at this point Tobias doesn't know the impact will close the Sario Rip. For all he knows he's condemning himself and his friends to die with the Mecora and 75% of Earth's living things.
Tobias is willing to let the comet hit because the timeline is more important than either the Mecora or his friends.
Even now this is just so utterly impressive as a choice to have a protagonist make in a children's book. AppleGrant could have easily taken the decision out of the Animorphs' hands entirely by making the nuke fail on it's own or not be strong enough. They could have made the Mecora take the bomb from them by force to erode the sympathy the reader has gained for them. Heck, they could have just had the Mecora and Nesk both be one civilization of hostile aliens.
But instead we have the Mecora save the Animorphs' lives and even be willing to let these six children keep the only thing that could save them for themselves. "They were a smart, advanced, and decent race" and our protagonists still betray them to extinction because that's how the timeline is supposed to go.
The choice to make this "monstrous, horrible" event a choice by one of the protagonists is probably the darkest the books had gotten by this point in their release and boy does it set the tone for the future of Animorphs. And it's not quick, either.
The group spend the next few days fleeing as far as they can in hopes of surviving the impact. During this time Ax describes the grim fate that awaits Earth when the comet hits. The book allows the decision to linger for a while before the impact happens: to let the reader sit with the choice.
The closing of the Sario Rip even treats the Animorphs (and the reader) to a front row seat to the destruction.
Trees exploded into flame. Dinosaurs crinkled and blackened and fell dead where they stood, no time even to cry out...
While the book doesn't quite go so far as to describe the Mecora dying it doesn't exactly hide it either. It even emphasizes that the Mecora would have had time to realize the nuke was a dud before the impact.
The Animorphs return home, successful but decidedly not triumphant.
I'm still just so impressed that KAA respected the young audience enough to avoid any sugercoating. It's grim - about as grim as these books get at their darkest even in future books - and it's so amazing that it was allowed to happen this way.

& once again the role of the Nazis as a singular unsurpassed historical evil is the product of Hollywood, because large scale genocidal projects are sadly not unique in history - the thing the Nazis are so remembered for is the fact that they were at war with the United States

I think it's a mistake to assume that computer generation (so-called AI) is the only manifestation of the exploitation that workers (especially in artistic fields that are already considered lesser) experience. The problems that they experience are, I think, exasperated by computer generation, but it isn't like there were no problems with compensation, theft, or other forms of exploitation.
The problem is the exploitation, and I think sometimes, people lose sight of that in these conversations.

#is it so strange to like nuance and complication? i feel like in the last year ive realized im much more contrary that i thought#but i just feel like nuance is a good thing. ideas can be black or white on specific points. is blank bad? yes. next question. but issues#are often more complicated than that. are groups of people out there in the world doing bad things? yes and you shouldnt let them get away#with it but painting them as evil and inhuman is unhelpful if you want to solve social problems. people dont just behave#badly for no reason. and its not even just social issues. science is complicated. almost everything is more complicated that u would expect.#especially when ur working with whole systems. is that frustrating if ur trying to make a point or solve a problem? yes. but i thats what#makes it interesting. if the solutions were simple it wouldnt be as fun. maybe im alone in that. ive had that argument before. or in the#media i consume. the most complelling stories to me are the ones that r imperfect or fundamentally flawed. it makes them much more#interesting to talk about than something thats just good on all fronts. or in the fics i read. i dont want empty fluff where everyone's#happy. i want it to b fucked up and messy. its more interesting that way. media is more interesting when it gives me complicated feelings#does it make me sad that bad things happen to good ppl? yes but the world is certainly more interesting bc that is the case. its just#strange to watch ppl struggle with nuance as a concept. the internet is not a place of nuance. so its fun when u see someone who is#interested in having difficult and at times contentious conversations and has a willingness to admit when they make mistakes. and#its frustrating to watch internet dip shits attack them and try to hold them forever to misspeaks or uninformed statments that they condemn#after they inform themselves. and seeing it happen at a mass scale is like genuinely disorienting to me#as an outside observer. i cant imagine what its like to b at the center of it. but thats just how the internet is. full of freak behavior#that would b considered deranged if it happened in person face to face. Anyway. maybe im wrong but i think u should listen when ppl r upset#and not tell them theyre delusional when even if u disagree with their position u can see how they came to have that perspective#unrelated

In my head, one of the non-confidant friends Akira makes is the newspaper club member. Another is the old man with the radio in Yongen-Jaya. Another is the foreign barker on the central street of Shibuya. Another is the gentle-looking mother and uhhh… dog-loving(?) daughter and their dog… Kotaro(?)
