I really feel like one of the best details in “A Scandal in Bohemia” that I never see people fixate on enough is that the story starts with Watson stopping in to see Holmes at Baker Street on a complete whim, because he happens to see that he’s home (and Watson is now married and living elsewhere). Like he doesn’t send word first, he’s not invited, he just shows up and surprises Holmes. Which is not that weird but then Holmes is like “oh good, I’ve got a case anyway, you might as well hang out!” which just makes it funnier when the King shows up and is like “I’d really rather speak to you alone, actually” and Watson tries to leave and Holmes is just like “anything you can say to me, you can say to my best friend John Watson, and if you ask him to leave, I would consider it a grave insult, you would be my enemy and I will not help you ever!!” And the king is like “…ok” and just moves on.
like, that is crazy behavior. Holmes is talking about how there’s probably lots of money in this case, and then almost turns away the client for…not knowing who the fuck Watson is?? He’s not even supposed to be there?? He just came to say hi?? “It is both or none”… girl, GET UP.
#I get it though#sometimes your bestie gets married and you don’t talk to him for weeks?? months??#because you’re normal about him and also have pretty serious adhd#so you forget that communication even exists on top of being very sad and lonely and burying it with work#and then he shows up at random and the object permanence kicks in again and you force him to help#with your latest case because otherwise who knows how long it will be until you get to hang out again#and you know you’ll need someone to throw a smoke bomb through a lady’s window AT SOME POINT#PROBABLY#you can’t commit minor crimes by yourself that’s boring!!#and Watson loves your dumb disguises! he’s always said so!#I know we get distracted by the Irene Norton née Adler of it all#but Holmes is incredibly rare (gay) form in this story#a scandal in bohemia#sherlock holmes#acd canon#acd holmes#acd watson#john watson#it’s giving ‘this is my friend Madison and she drOVE ME HERE!!’#you 🫵 yes you! suffer my holmesposting

The marriage of Rhaenyra and Daemon was never a matter of politics. Not only were they already aligned on the same side by the marriages of their children that they arranged (therefore being pointless to marry themselves), but the manner in which the marriage itself happened — in secret with Rhaenyra already pregnant, completely disrespecting Laena's memory and Daemon being the prime suspect in Laenor's murder — was at the opposite spectrum of any wise political decision for either of them.
#you need to learn how to read fr#the marriage is so clearly a love match it could not get any more obvious than that#they scandalized everyone#they dgaf about laena or laenor's memories - as viserys himself points out#daemyra#rhaenyra targaryen#daemon targaryen#daemon x rhaenyra#asoiaf

I got. thoughts. about valens and voices in imperial roman history. but I also got a lot of thoughts about uhhhhhh choosing your brother for co ruling the Fratricide Foundation Story Empire. many thoughts about themistius' oration too
Brotherly Love, Themistius (trans. Peter Heather & David Moncur)
⭐ places I’m at! bsky/ pixiv / pillowfort /cohost / cara.app / insta
#it's also the Incest-Cannibalism Empire but that's a discussion for a different blog#all of the heavy hitters were Incest Empires btw. that's a feature of Empire across all of time. not always Cannibalism tho. TRAGIC.#but rome specifically being the Fratricide&Stuprum Empire is funny AND makes parts of this speech feel. uh. UHHHHH.#feels like you're trying to overwrite history and while you succeeded ONCE the uncle-nephew antagonism with a body count#somehow feels worse????? feels worse. i dont like anything that happened to valentinian 2#anyway. as a result: i personally will be including the bigamy accusations against valentinian into my belief system#stuprum babyyyyy! a requirement for every emperor! valens is lacking here so valentinian has to pick up the slack#valens will be giving me an opening to fire shots at figures in christianity i dislike which is honestly better than scandalous sex#later roman empire tag#komiks tag#brother emperors tag#IF. you missed my brother emperors posting. the head in hands thing here is meant to be a little bit offputting on account of#valentinian being valens' imperial maker. that's a life in your hands. overtures of fratricide. etc. you get the point#whatever other subtext you want to apply to it from the subtext spice cabinet. im not picky. this was a quick comic i did#to shake off the depression cobwebs lmao. eventually i'll style guide this era and do comics with more intentional thought later

Got a shirt that reminds me of something Gortash would wear the other day. Anyways Vat’il steals his clothes if he hangs around his house long enough
#I don’t think he ever wears them out of it though#that’d be scandalous!#but wearing his clothes around his house and laying about in his bed? that’s fine. that’s what allies do djdjdjjdjd#anyways bonus points because Gortash is bigger than Vat’il is so his clothes are big on him#and he usually just drapes his suits around his shoulders#doodle#sketch#oc#bg3#baldurs gate 3#vat’il#durge#durgetash

Re: your tags about Mel pouncing on Caitlyn for feeling superior, it's in chapter 14 (I just binged the whole thing yesterday cuz someone linked it when reblogging one of your drawings)
Mel pivoted instantly, like a sniper switching targets. “And you,” she said, eyes narrowing as she zeroed in on Caitlyn, “don’t get cocky. You’re no better.” “I –“ Caitlyn started, lifting her chin like she could posture her way to higher ground. “Don’t insult me,” Mel cut in, dry as a desert martini. “You adjusted her collar. In public. Right before introducing her to your parents.” “It was crooked,” Caitlyn immediately defended herself. “Sure it was,” Mel said, tone flat. “And I’m sure it just coincidentally required you to use both hands.” “It needed to be fixed,” Caitlyn said, jaw tight, Britishness dialed to eleven. “I wasn’t going to present her to my mother looking like she’d just rolled out of an alleyway.” Vi raised a hand. “Okay, that feels like a –” Ignored. Fully and with intent. “You didn’t fix anything,” Mel shot back. “You made an excuse to touch her. Slowly. With care. I’ve seen less intimacy in wedding vows.” Vi choked on her drink and immediately turned it into a cough. A cough she hoped sounded completely unrelated to the emotional murder currently taking place. Caitlyn turned to her, desperate for support. “Tell her it was crooked.” Mel answered before Vi could even think of replying. “She doesn’t remember. She blacked out under your touch.”
Oh thank you! That’s incredibly helpful!
Look at that @selmut people are quoting you now :D Also all of that IN ONE DAY??? Damn I’m tipping my hat
#‚she blacked out under your touch‘ was crazy though#it’s so funny because up to this point Caitlyn definitely has the high ground in terms of dignity#and then she’s like ‚scandal? I’ll give you a scandal‘#also Mel#mvp#someone get her a Mai Thai and a foot massage#she deserves it#TS

One of my favourite dark recurring jokes in the Alex Rider books is when it looks like some politician or someone with power might object to the government using Alex because they're all like 'you're using a teenager?' but then they follow it up with 'that's not going to look good if the public finds out' like damn lol good to know everyone's priorities
#alex rider series#alex rider#from the top of my head this happens in point blanc and scorpia#love the sense you get that there are people in high places who do know alex is working for mi6/being used#and they just don't care#they only care because of the potential scandal but not the danger to alex's welfare

Given how Sherlock reacts to Lestrade's drugs bust in ASIP, we can conclude that he kept drugs somewhere in his flat at that point (even if he was clean).
Then there's John and Mycroft's conversation on Christmas in ASIB, where we find out that Mycroft has set John and Mrs. Hudson to search the flat more than once, and they actually did find drugs (I'm assuming Mycroft was the one who deduced where the hiding places would be) and got rid of it.
So Sherlock felt the need to have an emergency stash in ASIP, but by ASIB his flat is clean and he hasn't replaced the drugs that his friends and family have thrown away. This shows how much happier he has become over time since he started living with John.
#of course there's the possibility that john&co missed a hiding place#or sherlock might simply have grown tired of being busted for keeping drugs#that last one must be part of the explanation#but i do think life with john has made him happier and healthier#so much so that at some point between asip and asib he no longer requires the safety net of an emergency stash#bbc sherlock#sherlock holmes#john watson#mycroft holmes#mrs hudson#bbcsherlock#greg lestrade#a study in pink#a scandal in belgravia

Things that are great about the Emma musical in no particular order:
• Emma physically puppeting characters around the stage during musical numbers
• Mr. Martin: “I brought some seed.” *waggles eyebrows*
• Knightley’s look of disbelief over Mr. Elton’s raptures over Emma’s painting. “I don’t think I have had enough to drink to see the genius” SIR
• Knightley overall giving Jack from While You Were Sleeping vibes
• I don’t know why the set and costumes imply this is happening in the 50’s—however they ARE very pretty. (The script does not imply this at all, strangely, you could do this script with period-accurate costuming and set.)
• The “Harriet is in love with Mr. Martin” “you’ve never been in love, how would you know” song is so dang funny, okay. Emma sings “you have not been in love” TO HIS FACE
• Emma narrates to the audience, and you think it would be awkward, but it actually works really well okay. She wants the audience to be in on her genius, but we end up getting a front row seat to her inner world crashing all around her.
• Mr. Elton interrupts Emma’s song imagining what Frank is like to give his proposal and it is. Stellar. The interruption, that is. The proposal is appropriately painful.
• Mr. Martin: *stammers incoherently* “Um…” *digs something out of his pocket and offers it to Harriet* “Walnut?” (This happens three times.)
• Emma: *about Jane* “One never knows what she is thinking!” Knightley: *deadpan*: “I know the feeling.”
• Mr. Martin is the best part of this musical, okay. He steals every scene he’s in.
• Mr. Woodhouse, aside, but still much too loudly: *about Mrs. Elton* “Ghastly woman. Who invited her?” Knightley: *chokes*
• Knightley constantly looks like he’d gladly put LEGOs in Mrs. Elton’s shoes
• Knightley lets Emma fix his tie while they are arguing. ✨perfection✨
• Emma: *after Knightley dances with Harriet* “I thought you said dancing was a waste of time.” Knightley: “I was provoked.”
• Knightley being a high soaring tenor is honestly not what I would have gone with. But I’m obsessed. And his song??? TOP TIER.
• Knightley defending Jane from Mrs. Elton >>>
• Knightley kisses Miss Bates on the cheek after the Box Hill Incident CRYING he is so kind
• This Knightley gets a 7 out of 10 on the “badly done, Emma!” scale with bonus points for the added line “I was fooled before, you are still a child.” He’s been docked points for not shouting, though
• Jane is the one who tells Emma about her engagement and…apologizes on Frank’s behalf? I’m not actually sure how I feel about this, I just felt it was worth mentioning
• Emma’s song when she realizes she’s in love with Knightley is WONDERFUL. (Also the line “it’s wonderful, it’s torturous…I think I may have hives” caught me so off-guard 😂)
• We get a scene where Mrs. Weston tells Mr. Weston that she’s pregnant??? And it’s so sweet???
• Emma sings “Badly Done” TO HERSELF
• Harriet turns her “Humiliation” song from the ball around on Emma when Emma realizes that if Harriet and Mr. Knightley marry it will be all her doing, and then Harriet starts puppeting HER
• “Mr. Knightley!” “Emma!” “You’ve returned, then.” “…apparently.”
• Listen. Does the proposal have “if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more?” No. But it is cute, they are both crying, Knightley is so overcome with emotion that he dramatically collapses against a nearby pole, and we at least got the “I cannot make speeches” bit.
• I have to say, it’s probably my 3rd favorite Emma adaptation and I highly recommend it to everyone, it’s currently free to watch (with ads) on Tubi
#it’s just so dang cute man#the songs aren’t all that memorable (with a few exceptions) but they sound really good#which is sadly more than I can say of the Pride and Prejudice musical. that musical also gets docked points for having characters from the#regency era WALTZ. SCANDALOUS.#Emma#Emma musical#jane austen

does solomon realise that everyone thinks ik is his kid and if so does he embrace it
it probably takes him a while but i reckon he does figure it out? either from asmo being nosy or barbatos saying something like (scornful) "how a wretched man like you had a child i will NEVER know" and solomon's like "what??????"
i feel like he'd neither confirm or deny it... on the one hand, it could be advantageous for the rumour to spread, since it might make any dangerous demons think twice - or it could bring more unwelcome attention and make things even trickier
i think he's also cautious about it because ik has a weird relationship with fatherhood in general, so he doesn't try to genuinely act in that capacity, but given he's ik's primary guardian right now, he also can't really avoid it? so he keeps supporting the dad theory without trying
the others assume that they're being evasive about it for ik's safety, which also why ik calls him by name. i imagine diavolo realising what he thinks is the truth and being like "aww how sad, his daughter can't call him dad :("
ik doesn't even notice everyone else thinking this. the brothers try to subtly interrogate her and she just answers vaguely with relation to her actual father, without actually contradicting them, so she's not helping with their theorising either
#asmo asks her about her mother and she answers 'she hasn't been in the picture since i was born' and asmo's like 'oohoho scandalous.....'#or at some point she says something vague about her dad always being out when she was young and it makes lucifer and satan sideeye solomon#answering asks#anon asks#!monsolo#ik gets nightbrought

revisiting crassus, clodius, and the bona dea scandal! but this time with a new composition and a limited color palette
originally when I drew the first version of this idea, it was back when I thought that crassus would be a week long fixation at most (lmao), and instead he just. took up permanent residence in my mind. it seemed like a fun thing to go back to an earlier idea and see what changed now that I've spent a lot more time with everyone involved in this era!
also the way these two interlocked politically. I am. biting into it.
The Defeat of Rome: Crassus, Carrhae and the Invasion of the East, Gareth C. Sampson
Crassus: the First Tycoon, Peter Stothard
Crassus: A Political Biography, B. A. Marshall
Crassus, Clodius, and Curio in the Year 59 B.C., Robert J Rowland, Jr.
bsky ⭐ pixiv ⭐ pillowfort ⭐ cohost
#for example. i even know who catulus and caelius are now. i did Not know who the fuck they were when i drew the original one#now im like. wow. those sure were some allegations. goddamn#i forgot that ive drawn crassus and clodius fucking before. i'll revisit that someday. ANYWAY. time for some organizational tags#marcus licinius crassus#publius clodius pulcher#roman republic tag#do i. have a tag for the bona dea scandal. i should#drawing tag#ALSO the first tycoon book. it's not a good reference point. i disagree with uhhh like a good third of it. BUT it is an EXTREMELY sexy#read. i would love an HBO show using this book as a point of inspiration. im not kidding. id watch it so fast#i was reading something that implied clodius role in the bona dea scandal was actually partially crassus' machinations#to undermine both caesar AND pompey. and once i finish digesting THAT thought. i will. draw a comic probably
