SHADOWS OF THE SHORT DAYS is a dark Icelandic fantasy, dark academia, rebellion, magic mushrooms but not in a fun way, demons and dark gods.

I've been assigned to go through some archive boxes in our basement, and after a brief soujourn in the WRONG basement (apparently we go down to -3!)

There’s also Homewrecker!Jinwoo actually, though not in the way you think 😏

It’s about reader who’s married and has a four year old daughter, but both of them are being abused by her husband.

One night, when her daughter got sick, she took her to the hospital to make sure she was okay. Coincidentally, that was the same night Jinwoo visited the hospital to give the Elixir of Life to Jinho’s dad.

Jinwoo, reader, and her little girl stepped into the elevator together. But then, the lights flickered and suddenly everything went dark. They were trapped inside the elevator.

The little girl started crying, scared of the dark. Let's say her father (reader’s husband) used to lock her in the bathroom whenever she misbehaved. She kept sobbing, “Mama, please! I’m scared! I was good, Mama, I didn’t do anything wrong!” Reader tried to calm her down (she was close to crying herself from watching her little girl broke down like that), but her daughter wouldn’t listen. She was too scared.

Then, Jinwoo suddenly did something with his magic (maybe he created a little orb of light with his mana) and crouched down to show it to her. He smiled, so gently, and asked, “Hey, you wanna hear a funny story?”

The girl sniffled and nodded.

“I have a friend who used to be a giant ant. Really scary. Sharp claws. Big wings. Thought he was the king of the world.”

The little girl looked at him, eyes still watery, but now curious. "Giant ant..?"

“Mm-hmm. But now he wears a tiny cape and thinks he’s a stage actor.”

Then Beru appeared—floating in the air, small enough to fit in Jinwoo’s palm—and dramatically declared: “Verily, ’tis I! Destined from the womb to smite all foes, conquer dungeons, and rule o’er all creation! And yet—oh, cruel twist!—I now spend mine hours painting yon royal sister’s fingernails! What devilry is this? From dark lord to dainty manicurist—fie, what a fall!”

The little girl giggled. “He talks funny.”

Jinwoo rolled his eyes. “He thinks he’s in a drama. But honestly, I think he just likes attention.”

The girl stepped closer, wide-eyed. “Is he your friend?”

“One of the best ones I’ve got.” He held out his fist. “Wanna bump?”

She did, bumping her small knuckles against his and Jinwoo smiled, gently patting her head. “And now you’re one of my best friends too.”

The girl smiled—like genuinely smiled—and reader wanted to cry because it had been months since she’d seen her little girl smile like that.

Merchy! I saw String Gummy and Schneeball on you top 10 faves list! PLEASE gush why you adore them so! As a long time TBD stan, nothing makes me happier than seeing others talk about them! :D

Before I say anything else at all... Random, zero prompting, BUT! I HAVE to say it. I REALLY love that they're called the "TBD". Calling the time travel agency TBD, which is an acronym more famously known to mean "to be decided", aka something to be done about/in/with the future, is really clever. I don't know if it was a conscious choice or a funny coincidence, but regardless, it charms the hell out of me, personally

Anyway, let me actually answer your question lol

String Gummy!

His design is peak imo. I love Cookies for whom you can really see what ingredient they're supposed to represent, and String Gummy is no exception (his hair 😍). I love his muted color palette, I think it does a good job suggesting how worn down/tired he is + how grim the time and place he showed up from is (plus, it really makes his violet eyes pop!). His outfit gives me... steampunk vagabond vibes, if that makes sense; super cool to me. And like... his posture. The way he carries himself. Idk, it's cool as hell to me. A slightly bowed head and a hard glare, with his weapon slung over his shoulders and his hand obviously still resting over the trigger. Simple but very effective way to showcase that he is a serious, paranoid/distrusting, perhaps slightly trigger-happy individual who is confident in his skill but ultimately unhappy with how he acquired it (immense hardship), yet nevertheless eager to use it against you if he deems you a threat. Maybe I'm overanalyzing but that's how he read to me the first time I saw him, and he still comes across that way and I love it. I love that I can tell so much about him just from how he looks. That's peak character design

I'm just a very big sucker for serious, stoic, unsmiling characters. (You'll notice that a good deal of the ones on my faves list are like that lol.) I don't really know why, I just am for some reason. I feel more drawn to characters who appear more in control of their thoughts and emotions and respond to dire situations with the seriousness they require/deserve (meanwhile, characters like Shadow Milk genuinely irritate me like mad lol). Characters who actually properly demonstrate that they must carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, and do so with solemn grace. And String Gummy fits this criteria imo. Charging himself with the Herculean task of fixing mistakes in time and apprehending time criminals in a ruined, borderline apocalyptic future where not even the institution that grants him purpose and authority really has any power to do good anymore. But he carries out his duties anyway, without fail and without hesitation, because a) it's what he must do (I'm also a fan of characters who willingly suffer and sacrifice and make hard choices for the greater good. I love selflesness), and b) it's in service of the woman who saved his life (I also love characters who are loyal, especially when that loyalty was born from some sort of tragedy)

I love tragedy. Suffering builds character. Lost in time, not even remembering where/when he was originally from, rescued at the last moment by a heroic figure (Future Croissant), living in a broken future, dedicating himself to an impossible task for what may as well be eternity with nigh-zero reward, risking his life and safety to fulfill his final mission of fixing that terrible future even at the cost of erasing it (and even himself, or so he thought), watching his friend/leader in the future die as she orders him back to the time he originally came from (and to live well. To be happy), doing his best to move on and make peace for himself, with everything he's seen and done, finding new, tentative happiness and purpose in life, but obviously still struggling... Inject that shit into my veins

I love his relationship with Croissant, both past and present. How he seems a bit more at ease with/around her than he does with anyone else. How they clearly care so much about each other. How Future Croissant trusts him with her flaws and failures, with knowing that she was the one who destroyed the future, and String Gummy caring for her and working tirelessly to help her despite all of that. How neither ever loses faith in the other no matter what. How String Gummy was so desperate to go back and tell her he did what she asked him to; how he always yearns for her guidance, for her approval, for her company. And their final moment together, with her revealing that the past (the original timeline) is where he's from and meant to be, and giving him one last order to go back there and live a good life, thanking him for everything as she fades away with the rest of the future that he helped save (with the past fixed, that future was undone, and so was she)... String Gummy mourning her, always keeping her in his heart, but trying to fulfill her dying wish and live well in the past/present... Feeling that same attachment to Past Croissant, who he recognizes behaves so much like Future Croissant (because it IS her, they're the same person), and them eventually forging a close bond... Sigh... This little heart of mine...

Yes, I ship CroisString. Very hard. I love them. I can go on about that in another post because I have more thoughts about it

His friendship with Marble Bread is very charming to me. It's sweet that he found companionship with the sort of person he really needed in his life: someone with the same stoic temperament, same hardworking spirit, and who respects that String Gummy doesn't want to talk about his past and never presses him about it while still offering support if he needs it. They're so chill with each other. They have this understanding that doesn't require explanation and it's great

I also want to see harm befall Timekeeper, she is a menace (affectionate but also not)

Schneeball!

Oh my gosh. I just love her so much, dude. I love her ATTITUDE. Her one-track mind and dedication to her work/craft. Her lack of patience towards anyone who stands in the way of her research. Her bold, straightforward demeanor. Girlboss 100

I love her constant bickering with Maple Taffy. Her behavior towards him is so fucking funny. Her eager yet no-nonsense approach to analyzing relics VS his more laissez-faire, attached one (she wants to crack everything open immediately, he wants to hold onto stuff and marvel at them). The way they work together to get MT out of the memory relic he ends up trapped in (and her reluctance to even help him, just because she's so frustrated with him + she's more interested in studying the relic itself)

L O fucking L

She looks super cool. Love her hair, love her dress + work apron combo. This might be weird but I love characters with glasses that obscure their eyes. Eyes are windows to the soul and often betray us and our true feelings; that little design quirk makes it so you have to think/guess a little harder at what a character is really looking at, or really thinking about. Adds a little touch of mystery to them. Plus it's just cool to me lol (ngl this is why I prefer her default look over her costume. Her eyes are pretty but I like when she wears those kooky glasses)

She reminds me a lot of Edna Mode and any character that does that gets an automatic S-tier ranking from me

(Not exclusive to Schneeball, but I like when Cookie Run characters are named after ingredients previously unknown to me. I had no idea what a schneeball was before Schneeball Cookie; now I do and I want to try one haha. Same with most of the Yagwa Village Cookies, plus a few other ones. I've expanded my culinary horizons and learned about so many new foods thanks to Cookie Run haha)

Yapping time about Shadow Company Until Day Breaks(I changed the name..)

Corrupted(can’t think of a better word)-

Pixel-

Pixel was the first victim, meaning he got the most tested on, to where he just acts like the little kid that he never got to be(C00lkidd wanna be..) he thinks he’s playing with the other Shadows in a way, thinking he’s 5 years old when his life was good, when his dad wasn’t dead. He’s very shaky and skittish though, without a “playmate” around to keep him company he gets sad

LoveHurt-

LoveHurt is the most uncorrupted to say the least, they recognize the Shadows especially Jackrabbit, they just go into an out of body experience, they have only killed 5 people though, one Janitor, 3 medbay rookies, and Valen “Plague” Ali.

Keys-

Keys with the cradle inside her makes her more unstable, and harder to predict her next move. She cries though, very muffled cries because her gas mask on her face is tighter than it usually is. But she still has an undying hatred for most people.

Survivors-

Delta-

He feels he’s failed as a Lieutenant, the best members in his unit besides 7-11, from what he knows of, being captured by the very man he once loved on his watch makes him feel like he fails, but he keeps a positive attitude to keep an eye on the remaining shadows and the Reindeer Unit at the Shadow Company Below 0 base. Delta does end up getting corrupted.

Deer-

He’s started hiding his face more, and grew out his hair from forgetting to cut it. Deer spends his days at the medbay in the U-15 base, keeping an eye on the place so the pictures of memories on the walls don't dust over.

HiJack-

He’s hanging on, but he misses his daughter. Oliver has been staying at the Konni base to spend time with her other dad, Canis, but he doesn’t know how they are doing. HiJack stays in the tech room and guides the Shadows through missions.

Bandit-

He spends his days at the Shadow Company Wild Fire base with his team, trying to find out a cure and who’s behind the whole operation.

Ashley-

Ashley is still the very happy and cheerful Shadow she is, still cooking for the Shadows, being the only cook in Shadow Company who doesn’t act like the average medic… She is not scared of the shadows who have been corrupted because they weren’t the ones asking for it.

About Shadow Company Until Day Breaks-

Shadow Company, Until Day Breaks, is a AU were Shadows can become corrupted by a drug that makes them go crazy, or however you make them, Pixel and LoveHurt were corrupted by their fear of hurting people they love or hurting people in general, Keys was corrupted by her undying hatred for the cult. Delta ends up getting Corrupted from his fear of not being enough for people.

There's a way to not become corrupt, if you’re not being brainwashed. Push your fears and hatred down.

Survivors are shadows, konnis, 141, civilians, etcetera who haven’t been killed or corrupted, it’s not fully a apocalypse it’s just a bit dangerous to enter some zones, it would be a death wish to set up base there and society isn’t the way it was before.
