Every single character arc in the story is about choices. "No one can make your choices for you" and doing what you believe to be the right thing "I had to." People are going against the narrative and shaping their own destinies.

Callum learned Primal Magic instead of doing princely stuff like expected, or even Dark Magic, but in the end, he did the latter. It was a not-really-a-choice.

Ezran fought against abdicating all he could, but ultimately did it because the alternative was an even more ruthless slaughter of people across the entire continent.

Rayla repeatedly chose not to kill, opting for mercy instead, and she hasn't broken that yet. But make no mistake- she could kill if she wanted to. If there was no other choice, if she could make herself unsympathetic, likely because someone tried to hurt one of her boys, she could and would kill. For all she is the opposite of an assassin, she can still be one.

You never truly lose the potential to be anything, not when the chips are down and you have nothing left to lose.
