Pics from here
“Ron, have you seen Mav?”
Slider craned his neck trying to catch a glimpse of their resident short stack. He tended to wander off at air shows like this.
A flash of yellow jogged his memory, and he nudged Ice as he turned to move that direction. “Didn’t he say something about a biplane he wanted to see?”
Ice nodded, still looking all around for his husband. He saw several of the Daggers checking out the different aircraft. Phoenix and Hangman were with Bradley at Mav’s P-51. Of course, those two tended to be wherever their son went. They were a bit of a packaged deal.
The problem with having a shorter husband was it was often difficult to locate him in the crowd. Especially when said husband tended to lose focus and follow shiny things.
Ice ran into Ron’s back when he stopped suddenly. He looked up to see what had caught his attention and froze “Is that…?”
Tumblr media
“It sure as hell looks like it,” Ron laughed as he started walking toward the bright yellow biplane. As they moved, Mav caught sight of them and waved happily.

Ice sighed as his husband hopped down from the plane way too easily for his age.
They were going to need a bigger hangar…

Okay apparently German!Slider is a big hit so
German Sli headcanons 🇩🇪🦅
grew up in West Germany (BRD) until he was about 16
His mom is German and his dad is American, so he has both passports/nationalities and is bilingual!
His parents divorced when he was 12 and his dad moved back to the states
Slider decided to follow him because his dream was to become a pilot (and the Bundeswehr just isn't as cool as the Navy in his opinion)
He's still in touch with his Mama and his grandparents (Oma and Opa <3) and the divorce didn't end in bad blood so they're all chill with each other
When he left for the states, his mom told him to never lose his German heritage and sends him food packages every once in a while
She also only speaks German with him so he's forced to not forget any of it lmao
Slider still tries to visit Germany for Christmas or Easter (most important Christian German holidays) if his schedule allows it
He's the master of Sprichwörter (proverbs) and will just randomly say them whenever they fit .. the others have no idea what the fuck he's talking about, they're just nodding along
Mav: *does something incredibly stupid*
Slider: Der denkt auch nur von der Wand
bis zur Tapete
-
Wolf: *tries patching up his jacket with
duct tape*
Slider: hält von 12 bis Mittag
-
Ice: I should've been there earlier
Slider: hätte, hätte Fahrradkette
Wolf begs him to teach him some swear words which results in him yelling "Krankenwagen" (ambulance) and "Schmetterling" (butterfly) around base (Slider is laughing his ass off)
Is the BEST at planning stuff but is also the most annoying about it. It's driving everyone up the wall that he may have every road map ever memorized but god forbid they try to take a short cut that isn't on there ...
The type of guy to print out his online tickets and put them in a Klarsichthülle (modern age!Sli of course)
Wears Birkenstocks with long, white socks and a Schnelle Brille
WILL find something to complain about in any situation ever - you can take the guy out of Germany, not Germany out of the guy
pt. 2 soon because i have so much to say about german slider, please feel free to leave input, especially my fellow german top gun enjoyers 🫵🏻
I'm gonna be honest, I see as more of a northern guy (Hamburg or Hannover probably) but because OP (me) is southern, he will be too for the sake of this video
@allforreading-fandomthings @jakekazansky @aryacoulson this is for you guys

Our Little Girl
Master List
Tumblr media
Bradley and Jake haven't been on many deployments since the birth of their little girl and they can think Ice for that. They have been on a total of 3 since she was born each time was a short one. However, this one they absolutely had to go on it was going to be for at least 3 months. Their little girl would be staying with her Grandma Carole and Grandpa Goose while most of The Dagger Squad got deployed. Y/N loved it when she stayed with her grandparents, they loved to spoil her. Maverick and Goose weren't called to go which wasn't unusual since Ice and Slider were going, if two of them didn't go then the other two would. It was an unspoken agreement that Ice would also be in charge of The Dagger Squad along with Maverick and the two RIOs were along for the ride.
A week leading up to their deployment they could tell Y/N was getting antsy. She's been away from both of her fathers multiple times but never for this long. They noticed that she was getting more clingy to both of them to the point where she was crawling into bed with them at night. They would be expecting her and when she crawled in they would just roll over and cuddle her.
Bradley and Jake had just begun putting Y/N to bed. It was 3 days until they left. It was 8 PM when they started her routine of putting her to bed. They had begun supper at 7:30 PM and had just finished and now it was bath time and bed time.
"Sweets. Bath time." Jake said as he and Bradley finished putting food and dishes away. She looked up at him from her place at the table and stared at him hard.
"No. No leave Dada or Papa." She said ending it with a frown. He sighed this has been happening ever since she found out they would be leaving.
"How about I take you and give you a bath then you can cuddle with us on the couch?" Jake asked not believing he was negotiating with a 4-year-old but is used to it.
"No. You both give me a bath and then cuddle." She said folding her arms Jake sighed and looked at Bradley who just shrugged.
"Dada has to finish up in here." Jake said once he turned to Y/N with his hands on his hips.
"Then no bath. I want both of you." She said now on the floor and copying his exact movement. Bradley chuckled she was too similar to them and it was scary.
"How about we go ahead and give you a bath and I can finish up later." Bradley said breaking the staring contest. Jake looked at him but he already knew what he was thinking. "It's not a problem. I'll finish up when she's asleep. Nothing here is going to spoil." He said and Jake seemed satisfied with that. Y/N thought about it and then broke into a smile.
"Ok." She said and practically skipped to the bathroom.
Jake turned to Bradley "She's too much like you. I've known you and have been living with you long enough to know how to handle you." Bradley said with a chuckle.
"Hey, she's like you too. Mister I know how and love to play the piano. " Jake said and Bradley nodded.
"Oh, I know. Mom keeps telling me that." He said and they stood there talking until Y/N hollered out for them.
"Dada, Papa!" She hollered and they began walking to the bathroom to find her standing there with her hands on her hips. She had that hip popped out and a look of annoyance on her face. "It's about time." She said with a roll of her eyes. They both shook their heads and chuckled and started to get her ready for a bath.
Once bath time was out of the way they went into the living room and cuddled her while putting on a movie. Halfway through the movie and she was out like a light. She had fallen onto Bradley's shoulder and was ever so slightly snoring. They didn't feel the need to finish the movie, having already seen it several times.
Bradley picked her up and they walked her upstairs to her bedroom as she snuggled further into his neck. Bradley laid her down and kissed her forehead and Jake did the same thing they both told her that they loved her. They gave her favorite stuffed chocolate and tan bunny named Rolo to cuddle with. They walked back downstairs and Jake helped Bradley finish up what he was previously doing.
They sat in the living room when they were done and watched some TV. "You know she's going to be a wreck right?" Jake asked his husband who nodded.
"Yea I know but she'll have mom, dad, and Maverick with her." Bradley said and Jake nodded. They watched a little bit more TV before retiring to bed.
It was around 11 PM when they heard little patter of feet and then felt the bed dip. They had been expecting her and wondered why it took her so long. She snuggled up in between them and they just rolled over and snuggled her. Jake had her head tucked under his chin and arms around her shoulders and then Bradley had his head nuzzles in her hair and arms around her torso. All three of them slept peacefully that night.
---------------------------------------------------
When it was time for them to leave everyone went down to the docks with them. She was currently clinging to Jake. They walked down from the car and she was nonstop talking about anything and everything.
"When you're away I draw you pictures." She said happily already thinking of what she would be doing. It hadn't fully hit her just yet.
"That sounds awesome, Sweets." Jake said and kissed the side of her head. They reached the dock and then it finally sunk into her.
"Papa? Dada?" She asked quietly.
"Yea, Honey?" Bradley asked and looked at her as tears welled in her eyes.
"You leave me?" She asked sniffling.
"Just for a little bit, Sweets. You'll be able to call us occasionally." Jake said and she hugged him around his neck and wouldn't let him go. Bradley tried to take her but she wouldn't let go. "Sweets, give Dada a hug." He said and she let go of him and transferred to Bradley.
She hugged him around the neck just like she did with Jake. "Oh, Honey, it's ok." He said when he felt tears on his neck.
"I don't want you both to go." She said and sobbed. Jake came over and rubbed her back.
"We'll be back as soon as we can. I promise." Jake said and she nodded. Goose, Carole, Maverick, Ice, and Slider came up to them. They said their goodbyes and then Goose took Y/N from Bradley's arms with some struggle. Everyone boarded the ship and watched it sail off.
"Ok, Chick. It's time for some Grandpa Goose time." He said tickling her which made her giggle. They walked back to the car. She was quiet and Goose, Carole, and Maverick took notice of this.
"Hey, Peanut they'll be ok. They have Grandpa Ice and Uncle Slider with them." Maverick said looking back at her while Goose drove and she nodded.
They had to go back to Seresin-Bradshaw Residence to pack some stuff up and then they were off to Goose and Carole's house. "Ok, Chick. Go and pick out some clothes with Grandma." He said and she nodded and followed Caorle to her room.
"What do you want to take with you? We can always come back here." She said and Y/N nodded and started to pick things out with the help of her. As Carole was zipping up the suitcase Y/N made her stop.
"Wait! We need Rolo, Hershey, and Cookie." She said grabbing her stuffed bunny, stuffed bear, and stuffed penguin. She really liked the wildlife so was excited when she got wildlife animals.
"Honey, you don't need all of them." Carole said and Y/N gave her a look like she just broke her heart.
"Yes I do. They're from Dada and Papa." She said with a hint of sass and Carole chuckled.
"Ok, Honey. You can take them." Carole said and Y/N smiled and put them in the suitcase and helped her zip it up and then they were off.
They got downstairs to where Goose was standing in the kitchen. "What took so long?" He asked picking Y/N up and attacking her neck with kisses and she giggled.
"She insisted on packing 3 stuffed animals." Carole said watching them and being taken back to when he did that with Bradley. They left shortly after that.
It was the first night without her daddies and she was not taking it well. They had just finished dinner and she was throwing a fit. "Chick, it's time for bed." Goose said and she shook her head and stood firmly.
"No want Dada and Papa." She said with her lower lip wobbling. Goose sighed and so did Carole. They knew this would happen and were expecting it. They had kept her busy throughout the day to keep her mind off of it but it was just now hitting her that she didn't have them with her. She then started full on crying. Goose went to her and picked her up.
"Oh, Honey. They'll be back." Carole said walking over to them and rubbing her back as Y/N sobbed into his neck. He bounced her and rubbed her back.
"Shhhhh. It's ok, Chick." Goose said and about a minute later she was reduced to sniffles and had fallen asleep. "I think she's asleep." He said and Carole nodded confirming it. They walked to her room that they had set up and laid her down in her bed. They had already changed her and bathed her. Carole grabbed Rolo and put it in her arms and she rolled over and went to sleep. They both kissed her and then started to get ready for bed themselves.
---------------------------------------------------
It had been a month since they had left to keep her mind off of it Goose had made it his mission to make her happy and not upset. So what does he do? Well, let her play in the mud and take her to the beach. Would Carole be mad at him? Yes absolutely. When Goose had decided that he would be playing in the mud with his granddaughter was when his wife was out with her friends in the evening.
"Chick, what do you say we go and plant some flowers for grandma?" He asked her once Carole was out the door. Y/N looked up and him and her eyes lit up. She nodded her head.
"Can we plant some for Dada and Papa?" She asked and Goose saw the excitement in her eyes.
"Of course we can Chick." He said and so they headed outside and began to the planting process. Everything was going smoothly until Goose felt something being thrown onto his back and he turned around to find a smirking granddaughter. "What are you up to, Chick?" He asked and she just kept smiling. The water hose had been running into the some of the dirt and she picked some up and had a mischievous look in her eye. She threw it and he ducked. "Oh it is on." He said and grabbed the water hose her eyes widened.
"Uh oh." She said and took off running and giggling which made Goose laugh as well. He had gotten her a couple of times and then accidently fell into the mud that had been created. It wasn't a hard fall but she had look of surprise on her face and so did he.
"Are you ok, Chick?" He asked turning off the water and running to her. She had mud all over her face and clothes.
"I'm ok, Grandpa Goosey." She said, a nickname that she had given him, as he wiped mud off of her face. In that moment Carole had came back and outside and saw the chaos.
"NICHOLAS BRADSHAW WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU DO TO MY GRANDDAUGHTER?!" She asked somewhat yelling in surprise. Goose turned around and they both looked at her as she stood there with her hands on her hips.
"Mud!" Y/N yelled and then she looked at Goose and he nodded and Y/N started to run after her grandma. "Grandma! I wanna give you a hug!" She said and Carole eyes widened.
"Oh no you don't." She said and took off running and laughing. After awhile Goose caught her and kissed and hugged her and she squealed in excitement and smiled. Then she something tackled her legs. She looked down and saw Y/N "You got me!" she said "Now time to get cleaned up." Y/N giggled and let her grandma take her to get cleaned up.
When she was cleaned, Goose had dinner going. Y/N ran up to and hugged his legs and she looked down seeing her smile at him "All cleaned up?" He asked and she nodded.
"Yes! I'm hungry." She said as Carole walked in behind her with their muddy clothes and threw them in the washing machine and started it. They both laughed.
"Just like your daddy." Carole said shaking her head.
"He was always hungry. He is still that way." Goose said as he turned off the stove and got down plates and plated for everyone. They went to the table and began to eat. Afterwards they got her down for bed easily. It was a pretty peaceful night for all of them.
The next morning Goose and Carole were up before Y/N making breakfast when Maverick walked in and greeted them both. "Hey guys. Where's Peanut?" He asked while taking his jacket off.
"She's still sleeping. She had an exciting day with Goose and mud yesterday." Carole said helping Goose.
"Have you heard anything from Ice?" Goose asked turning to him while turning off the stove and Carole walking to Y/N's room to get her.
"He said that we could send care packages if we want to. Otherwise they're doing well and can't want to be home." Maverick said leaning up against the door. Before they could say anything Maverick was thrown a little bit forward by a weight and a shriek.
"Grandpa Maverick!" Y/N yelled and he picked her up.
"Good morning, Peanut." He said and hugged her. "I heard you had a good day with Grandpa Goose yesterday." He said looking at her and she nodded widley.
"Uh huh! We played in the mud!" She said excitedly and he just smiled and laughed especially when he saw the look on Goose and Carole's faces.
"Breakfast time." Carole said bringing two plates at a time over to the table while Goose did the same thing and Maverick carried Y/N over. They ate peacefully.
"Maverick said that we could send care packages to Jake and Bradley if we wanted to." Goose said and Y/N lit up at the names of her parents.
"I think that would be a marvelous idea." Carole said and Y/N nodded her head.
"I wanna send them something! Please?" She asked and they all smiled, she sure does love her daddies.
"Of course you can honey. They would love that." Carole said and that is how Y/N finished her breakfast. She couldn't wait to send something special to them and she had the perfect things in mind.
That evening Carole had gotten a box and both she and Goose had written them letters and had thrown in some stuff that they thought they would like. Maverick was there as well doing the same thing for Ice but he was sending some stuff that Ice had forgotten and needed.
Y/N had made them each a card and when it came time for her to put something special in the box she had disappeared for a minute, it was long enough to concern the adults in the room. Goose had decided to go and check on her. "Doing ok, Chick?" He asked and she looked up at him and nodded
"Yes." She said and grabbed two of her stuffed animals and walked out into the living room. She gently put two of them in the box and then looked up when she noticed it was quiet.
"Peanut, are you sure you want to send those?" Maverick asked and she nodded.
"I want Dada and Papa to have them. They'll keep them safe." She said in a matter of fact tone then going back to making them pictures.
"Ok, Honey. Just as long as you are sure." Carole said with tears in her eyes.
"I'm sure." Y/N said and without looking up and didn't see the adults with a surprised look on their faces and tears in their eyes. Y/N also wrote them a note explaining why she sent them.
Afterwards they had everything together they all ate supper and Maverick went home. Goose put Y/N to bed and then walked out to Carole who was crying. "Are you ok?" Goose asked his wife and she nodded then he noticed that she was holding the note.
"She's such a sweet girl." She said as Goose came over and sat down next to her and read the note, he too started to cry. Once they were done making sure everything was there, they taped the boxes and wrote the address and wrote the boys' name on there.
The next morning Maverick came over to pick Goose up and the packages and they went to work and shipped them off with everyone else's.
---------------------------------------------------
Bradley and Jake were sitting with the rest of The Dagger squad in the common room when Bob asked about Y/N. "How's Y/N doing?" He asked, out of all of the group, besides Jake and Bradley, Y/N had spent more time with Bob and his family. Bob had a little boy named Mason and Y/N and him had hit it off very well.
"She's doing good. She cried when we had to leave." Bradley answered "How's Mason?" Bradley asked.
"He's doing good. Asking when he can see Y/N again." He said with a smile.
"I bet when they grow older they're gonna date, get married, and have kids." Jake said with a smirk and everyone chuckled at that.
"They're going to be little heartbreakers that's for sure." Nat said.
"Knowing them, they're going to be too shy to say anything." Javy said.
"Y/N shy? Have you met her? She's too much like her father's." Mickey said
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jake and Bradley said at the same time.
"Oh come on, you're both outgoing and won't let anything hold you back. He means nothing bad about it. She has both good qualities from you." Ruben said and they all had to agree with that. Just then Ice came in with Slider carrying packages.
"Packages for everyone." Ice announced and they handed them out to everyone. Jake and Bradley got theirs and smiled they opened it and immediately teared up, on top were Hershey the bear and Rolo the bunny, Y/N's favorite stuffed animals.
"Isn't that two of Y/N's favorite stuffed animals?" Javy asked and they both nodded and grabbed the note.
Papa and Dada
Hershey and Rolo will keep you safe while you fly. They keep me safe from bad dreams. So they keep you safe now! I told them they had to!
I miss you! I want you back home!
Grandpa Goosey and I played in mud yesterday! Grandma was mad but we chased her down and tackled her in a hug.
Love you!
The note was short and sweet but it was enough to make them cry. There were notes from Carole and Goose and drawings from Y/N they were both emotional for the rest of the night. When they were done they had each grabbed the stuffed animals and took a picture with them. They've decided that they would capture moments with them in different places. Both Bradley and Jake slept with them, even if it was weird for grown men to be sleeping with stuffed animals but not to a parent. It felt like they had their little girl with them at all times and they would always love that feeling.
---------------------------------------------------
It was 2 months in their deployment and each time they went up in the air they would take Hershey and Rolo and take pictures of them and with them. It quickly became the new normal to see them with the stuffed animals, if anyone dared make fun of them for it they would be getting an earful from Ice himself and that was scary enough.
They had just docked for a brief 4 hours just to get everyone off the aircraft carrier and battleship. It was also their chance to get some food and treats from themselves. The Daggers stayed pretty close with each other. They all had to laugh at how many times Bradley and Jake got hit on, and seeing the people's faces fall when they found out when they were married to each other.
"Hey let's take a picture!" Javy had practically yelled out and everyone laughed but nodded. They had gotten someone to take a picture of them and Jake had Hershey and Bradley had Rolo in the center. They couldn't wait to show their little girl the pictures. One would think Jake would be too embarrassed but he wasn't not in the least bit, he proudly showed off that stuffed animal because it was his little girls.
A blonde haired women walked up to the group with her friends in tow. "Cute stuffed animals. Where'd you get them?" She asked flirtly eyeing Jake up.
"Yeah, they're adorable." One of her friends said and Jake and Bradley just smirked.
"They belong to our daughter." Jake said with a smirk and pointed between Bradley and himself and they watched her face fall for just a second. "Their names are Hershey and Rolo." He said pointing to each of the stuffed animals.
"Oh that is adorable! How old is your daughter? Do you have a picture?" She asked and they both nodded as Bradley pulled out his phone and pulled up a picture of them both with Y/N in the middle hugging their necks while they kissed each cheek and smiling.
"She's 4 and her name is Y/N." Bradley said showing her the picture.
"She's adorable. She's lucky to have two good looking fathers." She said and they nodded. The group of girls ended up staying and talking with them until it was time to leave. They didn't want to hook up with any of them, especially when they found out Jake and Bradley were married to each other and had a kid and Bob was married as well and had a kid. They asked about his wife and Mason and he shyly told them about them.
As the 4 hours was coming to an end everyone started to walk back to the aircraft carrier and battleship. When they were in front of the aircraft carrier Bradley and Jake paused as well as the rest of the group. "Hey lets get a picture real quick." Jake said to Bradley and he nodded. Bob offered to take the picture and they did so right next to the ship's name. Once it was taken they got back on board and waited to be undocked.
Each day or week that they did something fun or interesting or when they felt like it they would take pictures with Hershey and Rolo. They had been out on the flight deck with their jets and they had put them in the cockpit and labeled the pictures as 'Lt. Hershey and Lt. Rolo ready to fly.' They would be printing these out when they got back to land for their little girl.
They had a lot of fun taking them everywhere and taking pictures. Hershey and Rolo even made it in the picture with the entire deployment. They had become such the normal that even some of the other shipmates took pictures with them 'Making new friends.' on picture had said. Ice and Slider even got in on it 'Grandpa Ice and Uncle Slider hanging out with Hershey and Rolo.'
They had taken a picture of them looking out into the ocean saying 'Taking a short break and looking out into the ocean.' Their deployment was a lot more enjoyable with their daughter's stuffed animals.
---------------------------------------------------
The mission was finally done when it came to the third month. Everyone was grateful for it. Jake and Bradley couldn't wait to get back to their little girl. They didn't have much time to talk to anyone but they some great pictures. They had been finally able to video call their loved ones. They called Goose and Carole and they picked up on the first ring.
"Hey boys! How's it going?" Goose asked they smiled
"Going good! Just got done with the mission." Bradley said
"Where's Sweets?" Jake asked and Carole held up a finger and moved out of frame.
"Y/N your fathers are on the phone!" She yelled and they heard something crash and then feet pounding on hardwood they just smiled and shook their head. She came into frame after sliding to a stop and Goose caught her.
"Papa! Dada!" She yelled out her hair was wild and falling into her face. Goose put her on his lap and Carole came into view.
"Hey, Sweets. We miss you." Jake said
"We loved the surprise you sent." Bradley said brining out the stuffed animals "Matter in fact everyone loved them." He added and she smiled and her eyes lit up.
"I told you they would keep you safe!" She said and they nodded.
"They sure did, Honey." Bradley said
"When are you guys coming home?" Carole asked
"Should be in a week or so." Jake said
"We can't wait to see you. We miss you, especially Chick." Goose said
"Are you being good for them, Sweets?" Jake asked and Y/N nodded her head.
"Of course Papa!" She nodded her head wildly. Bradley looked at his parents and they noddded.
"I hear you got into mud and got Grandma covered." Bradley said and they saw that signature Sersin smirk appear on her face and she nodded.
"She did but it was all in good nature. Goose put her up to it." She said and Goose gasped.
"I would never!" He sounded but everyone knew the truth.
"Hey guys we have to go. We'll see you soon." Bradley said and Jake nodded.
"We love you both!" Carole and Goose said at the same time.
"Love you Dada and Papa!" Y/N said and everyone smiled.
"We love you all too." They said in unison and then they had hang up which instantly put a frown on little Y/N's face.
"What's wrong, Honey?" Carole asked
"I miss them." She said and burrowed into Goose's arms and neck and hugged her a rubbed her back as she cried. Caroled rubbed her back as well.
"They'll be home soon. I promise." Carole said and Y/N sniffled and nodded her head. She couldn't wait to see her daddies.
---------------------------------------------------
As they had said it was a week later and everyone was heading down to the docks to pick their loved ones up. Carole had Y/N in her arms as they arrived at the docks. Maverick was with them too along with Bob's wife and Mason. They were on the look out for The Daggers and when they spotted them Y/N went crazy.
"I see Papa and Dada!" She said as they started to walk over to them. Once everyone got close enough Carole let her down and she ran over to them and jumped into Bradley's arms and they both hugged her.
"Hi, Honey. It's so good to see you." Bradley said
"We missed you so much, Sweets." Jake said while hugging her as well.
"I missed you both!" She said and they smiled and walked over the rest of the group that had reached Maverick, Goose, and Slider.
"Grandpa Ice! Uncle Slider!" She yelled and gave them hugs and they greeted her back. Everyone greeted each other and they were split and headed their own way.
When Bradley, Jake, Y/N, Goose, and Carole arrived back home. Y/N was nonstop talking but knew when to be respectful and let the grownups talk. They stayed over at Goose and Carole's for a few hours and then they were packing Y/N's stuff up and heading home.
When they got into the Bronco she started up the talking. It was getting late considering it was 10 PM at night when they got back.
"-and then we went to the beach a built sand castles. We got ice cream there." She continued talking.
"That sounds fun Sweets. I'm glad you had a good time." Jake said smiling back at her and saw how her eyes were lit up, Bradley could see it too. Jake turned back around and Bradley turned his attention back on the road.
"It was! We then went to the park a lot and and...." She drifted off and when Bradley stopped at a red light they looked back and found her fast asleep. They looked at each other and smiled.
They arrived back at home and Bradley parked The Bronco and killed the engine and quietly got out. Jake was already by the door and opening it and getting her out. She adjusted but never woke up. They walked into the house and shut the garage. They would get the bags in the morning.
They both decided to let her sleep in the bed with them wanting their little girl close. Jake and Bradley got ready for bed while she slept. Bradley had ran back out the garage and grabbed Hershey, Rolo, and Cookie. He walked back upstairs and saw his husband already cuddling with Y/N he smiled and climbed into to bed with them. They snuggled her and they fell asleep. Finally being able to get a good nights sleep in 3 months now that they were back home with their daughter safe in their arms.
---------------------------------------------------
Bradley and Jake had printed out the pictures they had taken and showed them to Y/N and she lit up like Christmas tree when they told her the stories. They hung them up in her room and they made duplicates to put in a photo album for her. What they didn't know was that those pictures would stay up on her wall for years to come and that photo album would go everywhere with her.

A short Slimav I wrote in like a day. I’m digging my Burt’s Bees watermelon chapstick my American friend gave me (it tastes so good and smells even better!) so…some fruity lip balm on Slider’s lips it is!
“You taste good.”
Maverick blurts out as their lips part, his head slightly hazy from the heat they've shared on the crumpled sheets.
“Cannibal.” Slider gasps, poking his chest. “Always knew you’re a bloodthirsty sicko, Mav.”
“Dumbass.” Maverick says and cups Slider’s face, to which he welcomes with a small grin and a slight tilt of his head. “Not like that. I mean…”
He places a kiss on Slider’s lips. So soft and tender, plush and sweet—with a hint of berries and honey.
“That.” He mutters against Slider’s mouth, too reluctant to break the contact. “Did you eat candy or something, Sli?”
“Nah, I don’t really like sweet stuff.” Slider says and cocks his head, eyeing him with half-lidded eyes. “You know that, right?”
“Then what is it?”
“What is it what?”
“Those.” Maverick points at those damn lips, now scented like a sour candy somehow—and all the more inviting, he may add. “You taste like strawberries.”
“Oh,” Slider blinks a few times before continuing. “Oh yeah, must be that chapstick.”
Slider fishes the nightstand and hands him a small stick of lip balm.
Strawberries.
Citrullus lanatus seed oil, or whatever’s listed on the packaging that smells like a refreshing yet sweet candy on Slider’s thin lips.
“Feels nice, huh? So smooth.” Slider smiles. “Ice gave it to me. Told me he didn’t like the smell, though.”
“Mm-hm.”
Their noses bump against each other as Maverick leans in closer.
He traces the shape of Slider’s lips, tasting the remnant of the fruity taste. It melts in his mouth like an ice cream on a sunny afternoon, the faint sweetness of honey and cream disappearing before he can put his finger on.
“I can get you one if you want.” Slider murmurs, his breath short and hot against Maverick’s lips. “I think I’ve got—ah.”
Slider lets out a content sigh when Maverick lightly sucks his lips, ravishing them with a tinge of pain. He knows Slider likes it when he nibbles at the tender flesh. He knows Slider likes to be gently claimed.
“I’m digging this.” Maverick grins. “You taste good, Ronnie.”
“Wacko.”
“You like it.”
A soft gasp escapes from Maverick’s lips as Slider pecks his cheek, marking his skin with a berry-flavored kiss.

I truly love your work so much! But I most definitely fell in love with “Maybe we should just be honest with ourselves” it was just so heartbreakingly beautiful and so well written.
I was thinking maybe a sequel to this when ice and Mav get together (finally) ? Maybe reader becomes friends with Mav and he no longer is trying to kill her with his eyes?? Ahah
Anywho, I just thought it would be cute for reader to be like a extra pieces to Icemav, you know? She could be their best friend!!! Their buddy!!
Not sure bout plot or anything, so if you do think this request could work that’s up to you!
Your so incredible, and I definitely fell in love with your writing! Hope to see more of you in the future after I’m done binge reading your others 🥱 <33
Hi!! Thank you so much for your message!! I loved the idea and immediately got inspired, hopefully you like it! Once again thank you for your sweet comment it makes me so happy that you like my stories!
Tumblr media
Part 1 - Maybe we should just be honest with ourselves
The house was full of laughter as you step into it and Slider immediately brings you into a hug when he sees you.
“I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages!”, he says with a teasing tone, but he is looking at you with watchful eyes, making sure that you were alright.
“It’s good to see you too Sli, thought it was time to come back and see if you guys didn’t miss me too much.”, you tease the RIO, and he rolls his eyes dramatically.
“I had a calendar counting the days until I would be able to see you again.”, the two of you laugh at his antics while Hollywood and Wolf arrive to say hello.
“What are you all doing there?”, you can hear Ice say before he sees you and he seems to be in a trance before shaking out of it and a bright smile appears.
“Hi, hopefully I’m not imposing.”, you say quietly and Ice scoffs before bringing you into a hug.
“You never impose, I’m glad to see you.”, he whispers, and you hug him back, it had been three months since you had seen him after that fateful night, and it felt right to see him again even just as friends.
Ice releases you from his hug and quickly takes your jacket while you take off your shoes.
“Would you like something to drink?”, he says, looking a bit nervous but you smiled at him reassuringly. You had felt nervous at the thought of coming back and the nervousness was still lingering but you knew he needed more reassurance.
“Don’t worry I’ll get it myself; I remember where the kitchen is.”, you say before he can try to tell you that he will get it, leaving towards the kitchen. The kitchen was still the same, the only difference was a frowning Maverick who was looking at a pack of cinnamon rolls like they were his biggest enemy.
“Need help?”, you say, and the pilot looks at you surprised but it quickly forms into a nervous smile.
“It’s alright, maybe at one point I’ll figure it out.”, he says while looking back at the package and you laugh softly.
“You need to put them for twenty minutes in the oven until golden at a low temperature.”, Maverick looks at you with wide eyes before a relieved smile appears.
“Thank you, I guess you had to do a lot of those for Ice.”, he says with a grin before he seems to realize what he said, and he looks at you horrified.
“God, I’m so sorry – I-”, you take a glass from the cupboard and smile at him reassuringly.
“Don’t worry, I know you didn’t mean anything with it.”, Maverick seems relieved at your words, but the nervousness doesn’t leave him.
“Are you alright? You seem nervous and I’m quite sure a pack of cinnamon buns doesn’t make anyone that nervous.”, you say softly, Maverick was someone you didn’t know verry well, so you wanted to be careful with your words.
“I am, well not nervous about those buns but something else.”, he is still looking at the wrapped cinnamon buns, not meeting your eyes and you start to understand what this is about.
“I don’t mean to overstep – so stop me if I am, but does this has to do with Ice?”, Maverick’s head whips so fast towards you that you are afraid he has hurt his neck. He is looking at you with wide eyes, an array of emotions in them.
“What do you mean?”, you sigh and sit down, looking at the other chair and then towards Maverick again, the pilot seems to understand what you mean as he sits down and looks at you slightly fearful.
“I see the way you look at him Maverick.”, the pilot groans softly and takes his head in his hands.
“I’m not really discrete, huh?”, he says, his head still in his hands and you feel sorry for the man.
“Don’t worry, Ice is much worse.”, that seems to wake him up from his pity party as he looks at you surprised.
“W-what?”, you chuckle softly at his expression, but he seems genuinely surprised.
“Listen, I’m probably not supposed to say it but maybe it will get the two off you finally together, so I am going to say this. Ice and I broke up because he wasn’t in love with me, he is in love with”, you don’t even have the time to finish your sentence that the pack of cinnamon buns fall on the table.
“Me.”, he whispers under his breath, and you nod slowly. The pilot seems to be going through a whole rundown of emotions before looking determined.
“What should I do?”, you look at him surprised, not understanding what he means.
“How should I ask him out? I mean Ice deserves the absolute best, so I need to find the best way to do this.”, Maverick continues to ramble, and you can’t help the smile that appears, he is as in love with Ice as Ice is with him.
“I might have an idea.”, you say with a mischievous smile and Maverick looks at you with wide exited eyes.
“There is a song that Ice loves, maybe you should serenade him.”, as you tell him the name of the song, the pilot looks like a child on Christmas day and the two of you start to plan.
Hollywood comes into the kitchen to find the two of you so that you could all start the night, and you leave the kitchen sharing a knowing smile.
The rest of the night is uneventful until you innocently ask if you should all do a karaoke, Ice looks at you with a frown but smiles as Maverick says he will go first. The look of surprise and horror as the first notes of ‘Lay all your love on me’ start playing is the best thing you have seen in a while. Maverick starts singing and goes towards Ice singing the lyrics to him while Hollywood and Wolf whistle and Slider managed to find a camera and is filming the whole thing trying not to laugh too hard.
The song finishes with a breathless Maverick and a beet red Ice, there is a silence for a few seconds where everyone waits for a reaction. They get one as Ice brings Maverick into a bruising kiss and everyone start cheering at the two men. You can’t help but smile widely at the sight of them, it had hurt at the beginning, but you knew these two were meant to be together.
--
A few years later you can’t help but smile as you arrive at Maverick and Ice’s home, still decorated for the holydays. Slider parks the car, and you smile as he immediately goes to take your daughter out of her car seat. You try to take her diaper bag, but Slider stops you and you roll your eyes at his antics.
“You know that I can carry a bag, right?”, the man rolls his eyes and smiles lovingly.
“Can’t be too sure.”, he takes the bag and leaves with your daughter who is beaming at the sight of the familiar home.
Maverick opens the door and immediately start smothering the girl with kisses making you laugh as Ice looks at him impatient.
“Are you done Maverick?”, the pilot glares at his boyfriend but passes your daughter to her godfather. Ice immediately starts talking to her and you can’t help but smile at the sight.
“Come inside, you must be freezing, plus it is probably not good for you to stand for so long.”, a rambling Maverick says as you arrive at the front door, and you can’t help but laugh.
“Hello to you too Maverick.”, you say teasingly, and the man looks at you flustered before bringing you into a hug.
“Sorry, how are you doing? Not in too much pain?”, he looks worried, and Ice also brings you into a hug.
“Everything is alright, he just moves a lot. Definitely your son.”, you say teasingly and Maverick smiles widely, looking tenderly at your round stomach.
The two had been wanting to be parents after Slider and you had Sophie, but adoption was a mess as they were two men. Slider and you had talked one night, and you had offered them to be their surrogate mother. The two had been hesitant not wanting to force you into anything but you assured them it was something you wanted to do for them.
The surrogacy worked and you were now in your final week, the two of them were prepared but you could feel the nervousness coming from them. Even if they were nervous, you knew they were going to be the best parents to the little boy that was coming next week.

---------
As far as weddings that weren’t weddings went, Tom thought it had gone pretty well.
All day long and well into the night, their little house had been full of noise, laughter and music and clinking glasses. But now the record on their old player had finally wound down and no one was replacing it. The plates and glasses were piled up on nearly every flat surface and all the guests had staggered home. Expect for a handful who hadn’t made it past the couches.
Tom was hardly surprised, he even came prepared. He moved through the living room as quietly as he could, arms full of the blankets he’d set aside, dodging abandoned wine glasses and kicked off high heels to cover the snoozing Kerner twins, their mother who was slumped over the arm of the couch, her hand stretched out to loosely entwine with Slider’s, who looked like he’d fallen from a great height to collapse in Ice’s armchair. One for his sister, Sarah, whose face looked less like his own when it was gentle and relaxed in sleep, though she curled up in the same tight ball he did. Another for Carole, curled up on the floor in a tight little ball, her head pillowed on Alice Kerner’s jacket and one arm draped with a natural protectiveness over little Bradley.
Sundresses instead of gowns, linen shirts and jeans instead of suits and definitely instead of navy whites, a room full of exhausted parents spending what was left of the morning sleeping off cheap beer rather than a lavish hotel. Their wedding that wasn’t a wedding and it had very little of the things that made an actual wedding.
But Tom wouldn’t have traded it for anything.
Once their guests were as comfortable as he could make them, he whipped around and gathered as much cutlery and glassware as he could carry without dropping it and undoing all the hard work he and the booze and food had done. It wasn’t far to their tiny little kitchen where he was a little unsurprised to find his new sort of husband with his shirt sleeves pushed up to his elbows, wrist deep in dish suds. He’d promised to be on his best behavior after all.
Maverick caught the movement in the corner of his eye and turned with that brilliant smile, not even dimmed with how long he'd been awake, “Hey, baby. Everyone out for the count in there?”
Like always, Ice couldn’t keep from smiling back if his life had depended on it, “Quietest I’ve ever seen those Kerner girls. And that includes Alice.”
“If I ever want you dead, I’ll tell her you said that,” Mav winked, “Come on, stick those dishes in here, I’ll do them.”
Tom did, moving to grab a dish towel instead, ready to do his part. He nodded towards the water and chuckled, “Don’t lose your ring in there, you only just got it.”
“Thought of that!” Maverick lit up like a school kid with the right answer, catching his dog tags on one sudsy thumb and showing off his wedding ring, dangling there on the chain alongside the steel stamped with his name.
Ice beamed, leaning and pressing a kiss to his cheek, “Smart and pretty. Good thing I locked you down when I did, Mitchell.”
Mav nudged him with his hip, grinning, “I’m basically the whole package…I was thinking I could maybe keep it on there? Say it was my mother’s if anyone asks?”
Tom fought for his smile to stay in place, to keep the sudden pain confined to his own rib cage. Everything he knew told him even that small lie, that wink and nod, was too much. It was skirting far too close to the lines he’d drawn around parts of himself. Tom had been planning to keep his own ring well out of sight, he was wearing it today but after that it was going in the same box he kept all his precious weak points- his babushka’s recipe book, sheet music done in his mother’s shaky hand, the drawing his sister Sarah had done in preschool when she’d been asked to draw her family and had only done the two of them, side by side. In Tom’s mind, hiding was safe. Hiding was the only way.
But that fear was his own and Tom was determined to keep it that way. He wouldn’t clip Mav’s wings, certainly not today.
“That would be sweet,” was all he said, kissing his cheek again because he just had no other answer to Maverick’s reckless bravery, “Come on, we should really get these dishes done before we go to the airport…”
Mav laughed, “So we’re just giving up on the idea of going to bed, huh?”
Tom waved his hands, indicating the clock on the wall, the rising sun outside and the living room full of sleeping friends in one swoop, “I’ll owe you a wedding night.”
“Hey,” Mav’s eyes softened and he nudged him again, “We’ve got every night for the rest of our lives, baby. I’m easy.”
And they really did. The words they’d said to each other, out there in their tiny backyard with the ocean rolling behind them, didn't mean anything legal and Tom had little faith they ever would. There were no contracts or documents to back up that ring hanging there alongside Mav’s dog tags. But like Maverick himself had said, when they’d come up with this a month ago, curled up together in a tangle of blankets and limbs and crazy ideas, a wedding was just a party. You got everyone you loved in one room, or at least as many as you could, and you told them all hey, I’m nuts about this guy and I want to be with him forever. If the government was honestly happy for them to risk their lives but not while openly loving each other, then they- in Maverick’s words- could go fuck themselves. They weren’t getting an invite.
Tom didn’t need Mav to write his name on a piece of paper to know he loved him. He trusted his wingman.
Suddenly, getting the dishes done didn’t seem all that important. The old record player was still sitting in the corner, half covered under the bomber jacket Maverick had thrown aside after enough dancing to flush his cheeks. But he knew the disc he wanted wouldn’t be in the pile stacked up next to it, threatening to topple over and slide onto the tile. Those were all party tunes, songs from their teenage years they were dragging into this new decade, songs for Slider to pick Alice up and swing her around to, songs for little Bradley to bounce around to with his mama’s hands in his own. But Tom wanted something slightly different.
“Thanks for your support!” Mav called out sarcastically as he watched him disappear into the hall where the shelves of books and CDs and vinyls were neatly arranged by type then genre then color.
By Tom, naturally. He’d once caught Mav putting a CD in the wrong case just because it happened to be closer. And somehow he’d married him.
“Something occurred to me,” Tom said airily, coming back with the record he wanted, setting it into the player before Mav could see what it was. They had it on CD too but Tom would always prefer the way vinyls crackled, “Besides, Slider can do the dishes when he wakes up. I’m mad at him for that speech.”
“Because he made you cry?” Mav smirked, wiping off his hands.
“Maybe,” Tom grunted, gently setting the needle down.
“I thought it was adorable…so what occurred to you?”
After that static scratch and pop, there was that smooth, rhythmic plucking of strings, like the notes were going down a set of stairs, accompanied by those bright, happy barks of brass. Stand by Me, the original Ben E. King version naturally, Mrs Rosie Mitchell’s favorite and the one of the many soul tracks that had scored Maverick’s childhood. One of the ones he claimed to have gotten sick of but he’d still always reach for when he was given the chance.
Tom turned and offered out his hand, “We never got a first dance?”
And it was true, after they’d said whatever they wanted to say to each other out there in the yard, after Slider’s best man speech had made Tom cry and Carole’s had made Maverick laugh so hard he blew champagne out of his nose, they’d all just piled back inside to drink and dance and sing. It had been a brilliantly hectic whirlwind since then, this was probably the first time Tom and Mav had been alone since they’d kissed under the rosewood tree out back.
But this was one part of a traditional wedding Tom thought he’d like to have. And if the smile on his face was anything to go by, Pete agreed.
Two steps brought Maverick into his arms, just as the words began. He placed a hand on the small of his back, the other joined with his husband’s in a loose hold. Neither of them were really dancers, they couldn’t manage more than a simple step and sway without their legs getting tangled or knocking into the counter, but that hardly mattered. As Ben E. King sang about how he wouldn’t be afraid, the golden sunrise painted the two of them into a Klimt, into something more than beautiful. Something that didn’t need to be seen to know how precious it was.
Tom found himself humming along without even realizing, formless sounds that became words as his heart ran away and left his usual nerves behind, as Mav’s hair tickling his nose and their fingers threading together became much more important than how he sounded. Maverick beamed and tucked his head in against his husband’s chest, so he could feel the words as well as hear them. He always insisted he loved his husband’s voice, as hard as Tom found it to believe, always asking him to sing for him when he was feeling under the weather or in the quiet moments when that incessant Maverick branded energy finally wound down and he became soft and clingy. One of those things Tom was prepared to do for Maverick and only Maverick.
And he sang for him now, gladly, not caring that his voice was rough with beer and the lack of sleep or that he dropped out of lines to kiss Mav’s forehead. There were so many things Tom struggled to say, simply because he hadn’t been taught they existed, let alone how to put them into words. So he sang them instead, he rubbed small circles into the small of Mav’s back instead. And he trusted his husband would hear them all the same.
Tom didn’t quite know what he was going to do when the song finally ended. Of course it said something about him that he was here in this warm, loving moment and already worrying about when it would end but Tom wasn’t about to linger on that. Not on his wedding day.
But as he was inhaling the amber smell of Mav’s cologne and that edge of jet fuel he never seemed to lose, as he was singing in his rough rumble to ask him to stand by him whenever they were in trouble, there was the sound of footsteps. Footsteps that weren’t swaying over slightly cracking linoleum.
Tom lifted his head, chuckling as he watched a tuft of blonde, curly hair waver behind the counter like a submarine periscope.
“Mr Bradley Bradshaw, you have not slept long enough to be on your feet,” he laughed, watching the tuft come to a guilty stop.
A set of blue eyes peered up over the edge of the counter, “Sun’s up!”
“The sun may be up but you went to bed at three in the morning,” Maverick snorted with laughter, peeking up at him in a similar way over Tom’s shoulder.
Bradley’s gap toothed smile followed his eyes, “I can’t sleep…”
Tom kissed Mav’s cheek and let him go with some reluctance, going to lean on the counter so he could see the kid grinning up at him, wobbling on his tiptoes. His hair was a cloud of curls, so blonde in the sunlight that they seemed white, like he was wearing a halo along with crumpled overalls and striped socks.
“How about your mama, is she still asleep?”
Bradley nodded, “I tucked her in!”
“You’re a good kid,” Tom reached across to pick him up, swinging him safely into his arms, his heart warming as Bradley laughed and clung to him.
“Whatcha doing?” his little fist grabbed for the chain of Tom’s dog tags like a reflex, the way he did with Mav too.
The way he’d probably done with Goose.
“We’re dancing,” Mav grinned, coming up and poking his cheek lightly, “It’s our wedding, you see.”
Bradley made a sleepy grab for his finger, “Nah…that was yesterday…now it’s today…”
“Well, that's the fun thing, you see,” Maverick could have pulled back easily but he let himself be caught in the toddler’s free hand, “After you have your wedding, you get to be married to that person forever and ever. And you get to dance in the kitchen every morning, if you feel like it.”
Tom could hear the record crackling as the needle scraped through empty valleys and came to a halt. He smiled.
“And you get to go on vacations together. Which we’re leaving for in a half hour and I’m guessing you haven’t packed yet?” he grinned at Maverick.
Mav did in fact blush lightly and laugh, “Yeah…I’ll go get on that…”
He gave Bradley a kiss on the cheek, Tom a longer one on the lips before heading off to the stairs, still whistling Stand By Me.
Bradley seemed to have no desire to get down from Tom’s arms, though maybe he wasn’t quite as awake as he thought, yawning against the shoulder of his dress shirt before mumbling, “Can I come on vacation?”
Tom chuckled, “I don’t think we’ll be doing anything you’d find fun, kiddo.”
In fact, he had very few plans when they got to the little rental on a Hawaiian beach, chosen mostly for its seclusion rather than its luxury, beyond closing the door, pressing Maverick into the bed and fucking him every which way he could think of. Maybe reading some poetry books while his husband caught his breath.
Bradley huffed softly, his grip tightening, “But you’ll be gone so long…gone forever…”
Tom held the kid a little tighter. He knew Bradley was too young to be so used to goodbyes, too young to know how ‘gone for a while’ could turn into ‘gone forever’. He pulled back so he could take Bradley’s hand in his own, helping him put up five fingers.
“This is how many days we’ll be gone, kid. And then we’ll come home. I promise.”
Bradley fluttered his five fingers, humming thoughtfully, “That’s not so many?”
Tom smiled, “Nah. We’ll be back before you know it and I’ll even bring you back something cool.”
“When you come back,” Bradley nodded, still clutching that thought like a talisman.
“When we come back,” Tom closed his little fist, holding it safe within his own so the promise held fast, “Everything we love is here.”
Bradley held onto that as Tom coaxed him back into his mama’s arms, back into the sleep which the toddler was clearly losing the fight to. He certainly seemed pleased as a still sleeping Carole wrapped her arms around him and brought him close, burying his face against her as Tom gently fixed the blanket back around them.
He took a moment to glance around the room again, making sure that everyone was sleeping soundly. The twins were still curled around each other like puppies, Alice and Slider’s fingers were still loosely threaded together like even crashed out on their friend’s couch, they were looking for each other. Tom smiled as he took his house key off the ring and left it by his RIO’s head.
By then, Maverick was waiting for him at the door, bags at his feet, whispering, “Ready to go?”
Tom grinned, lifting the man he loved right off his feet, muffling his soft noise of surprise with a searing kiss.
“I’m very ready.”
Carrying Maverick to the car, stealing kisses between half hearted protests and laughter, Tom took a brief glance back at the house, dark and silent now but full of everything and everyone he loved, the life that was hidden but safe for all that.
Maybe he didn’t have to be afraid of what would happen when the song ended.
Maybe Tom could just believe there would always be another.

Dal Segno ft. Chuu

Tumblr media
Composition is only fifty percent of the process, you've heard, but it's closer to ten for you. For the importance of a solid melody and chord progression with the right instruments and singer, a song becomes less than the sum of its parts with bad mixing because all that effort goes to waste when you can’t hear something, or when something is too loud, or when a certain je ne sais quoi is wrong. But you do know. You don't have to be a chef to be a food critic but it certainly helps. Avoid muddling the lows as it waters down the soup. Carve space in the highs to prevent too much salt from killing the taste buds. Have at most five sounds at a time or else the flavors clash. Focus on these basic techniques to guide you as repetition wears down your mind. Funny. Repetition legitimizes especially in music yet here you are fatigued by repetition as though you weren't down four cups of black coffee. Repetition legitimizes. “From the sign,” the translation reads. Notation, simply instructing a musician to return to a certain point in a piece. You recognize it as an intro song you wrote years ago.
Glass and foam separate the undersized room. Cheap ramen and dampness in the hot air contribute to the odor. You would keep the fan on, if it were worth the extra time filtering out faint noise from recordings. The only scent that keeps you sane is a slight strawberry flavor lingering in the room. Jiwoo. Your muse. A large clock holds both of its hands near one with the lack of natural light muddling whether it’s AM or PM. Studios were always underground man-caves whether they were discount rooms or the signature workspace of the biggest producers. Here you are in the former. Look down at the Macbook and all the wires, sliders, and knobs. Deep breath. “Take 63,” you say into the cheap control room microphone.
“Not good enough.”
“Again.”
“One more.”
Look up. Jiwoo sucks on a grape lollipop. You stare. Watching her fixated on getting all flavor out of the purple sweet derails your flow state. See, work had a rhythm. Listen, volume up, hotkey to copy this clip, volume down. The obvious innuendo sends you offbeat. That perky butt bending over to get a notebook filled with lyrics entrenches the folds of your brain. She didn’t have to wear that skirt. You’ve seen that skirt already and you wish she weren’t wearing it. Oh, you really wish she weren’t wearing that skirt. Guilt sets in. You’re a trusted coworker, she, a naive girl. It takes a while to find your groove again. Your stare has yet to cease until she finally returns the eye contact with candy still in mouth. Her pink tongue laps to secure all the sugar and red pillows engulf the ever-shrinking circle. Pop. Anyone else and it would be calculated action.
“Oppa." Her voice resounds in your monitor headphones. "I don’t know if these harmonies really make sense. Why did you write the second voice to cross down below the main line? Plus it goes so low."
“To be fair, you wrote both of those melodies and you said you wanted them in the same song. Tell me anywhere else they’d work.”
“Ugh, let’s figure this out later. Next song.“
Dozens of takes later and Jiwoo’s frustration causes her to make mistakes. Sometimes she even tries to start singing with the sucker in her mouth. For the character she plays, you know she’s a professional and that she can be better. Yet hours later, she still could not get the vocal runs right. Incomplete songs bloat your project folder: "Jiwoo - Mania", "Jiwoo - Look Closer", "Jiwoo - Untitled Idea 21". Just a small side project that the company approved during another ample period of break time between comebacks. That’s why the director didn’t even let you use the company’s facilities, instead opting to rent out this cheap closet of a studio. At least no one would be mad about the amount of time you spent recording together.
You shift seats from the leather office chair to the white lovechair, the only two pieces of furniture that fit comfortably in the room. Jiwoo follows suit and leaves the recording booth, really more of a phone booth in square footage, while she huffs and puffs on her candy.
“I’m tired, oppa,” she says.
“Me too, Jiwoo. May I remind you that I’m not getting paid extra for this. Are you gonna focus or what?” your voice just a few cents down, just a bit harsher.
“I, I’m sorry.” A lick anyway. Her meek tone disappears, “Ya! You know how good your royalties are gonna be. Sole producer and all that. Plus, here you are still doing all this work for me." Why were you working so hard on this? "You know, if you just taught me how to use Ableton-”
“Then I’d be out of a job.”
Jiwoo frowns, “Wow, selfish much? You could’ve joined me as a trainee.”
“Nah, no way. Fish dance better.”
“Shut up, oppa. You would’ve easily made it with your, um, musical talent.” She clamps down on the lollipop with her mouth.
“You good? What was that?”
“Let’s," she stands promptly, "get back to recording.”
Crack. Jiwoo bites down on the lollipop and throws the stick in the trash. In ten minutes, she nails the verse she spent hours trying to get right. It'd be really nice to know what catalyzed that rally. You'd ask but driving Jiwoo back to her dorm is quiet as usual.
✦✧✦✧✦✧
Make a good impression on someone, anyone, on your first day as a mixing engineer. That’s why you returned to the Blockberry Creative building with an extra bar of Melona in hand. A simple bribery. Light beamed down between two skyscrapers on a short girl with long hair and strands of bangs adorning her forehead. She stood outside the lobby, introducing herself to every passerby. You had to pinch her cheeks, the intrusive thought screamed.
She scurried up to you. “Hi! I’m Kim Jiwoo and I’m going to become an idol!”
Ah, a trainee. You already knew she was destined to become one. Well, not literally, you weren’t in charge of that. But her overflowing charm was impossible to ignore. You had to tease her though, “Are you sure?”
“Hey! What would you know about that, mister?” she said.
You bit down on your mango. “Mister? First of all, I’m only a high school senior,” her lips rounded in surprise, “And second, I’m your new audio guy, and I know for a fact they’re debuting you girls in order of talent.”
“Woooow. Well, I’ll have you know, I have a great voice!” She certainly spoke lyrically.  “Wait a minute, I didn’t know they hired people that young.” You pointed at her. “Okay, I’m in high school too. But that’s different, idols start this age.”
“I guess. I’ve been making music ever since I was a kid, and they liked what I had,” you said and Jiwoo nodded in understanding.
She fluttered her eyebrows. “Sooo, is that mango ice cream for me? Oppa?” A little surprised she already called you that, but it sounded right.
“No, I have this unopened strawberry-” Jiwoo snatched the half-eaten cold treat from your hand, and started licking it. Trouble she would be.
You spent many recording sessions together, alone after all the other members left. She cozied up to you because her little musical snippets had to become full-fledged tracks and you helped her out every time.
Something changed over the years however. Your interactions became colder. It felt like you were the only one who she would respond to in a deeper voice. Jiwoo wouldn't pepper you with silly acts or mess around. Maybe she took you more seriously which is how you managed to make more songs together regardless. Then, you stood idly by and watched her debut. Who didn't love her? But when she was with you, you missed the playfulness, the ice cream and her riffing over your playful guitar strums. It turned less of a hobby and more of a job though you never regretted any second with Jiwoo regardless.
Under the Earth's largest natural satellite, you shared a simple meal in black bean noodles. She was still in her hippie outfit from the comeback, and you handed her your jacket since it was cold. You realized, there was something else there that you were too inexperienced to notice. Your bodies' radiation replace the chill in the air, a bubble with just the two of you eating on the grass in a park near your dorm. A cliche slurping on one noodle and Jiwoo pulled away. In embarrassment, like a damn anime character, she hiccuped. Good thing you didn't close your eyes when you leaned in.
“Wanna make an album together?” Jiwoo says.
“Sure.”
You threw away the noodles’ package and escorted her home. That was all you expected anyway. Fine.
✦✧✦✧✦✧
“That’s enough!”
Three goddamn weeks. It's been three goddamn weeks and you've barely made any progress.
Barge into the booth, slam the door shut and raise your tone, just below a shout, “I've had it up to here! You know how many of my songs have been mashed together in some unholy quest for your perfection? Just one unknown something is missing and either you start complaining or we move on to the next."
She backs up from the mic to the insulated wall but you continue, paying no heed to her, as you spout your piece to the artificially cold air, "You know how much time I’ve spent outside working on these songs? These are songs I’ve saved up over years. And you trash them like they’re nothing. How do you even manage to record LOONA tracks?”
Regret sinks in. This was your passion project as much as hers. Was it frustration from the recordings? Weeks of the same routine and it took until now for you to give in to your temper.
"It wouldn't even be that bad! If you could just one time, you could be cute or cheerful again with me, or,” Fuck. So stupid. You don’t have to take your friendships for granted like this. You’re lucky enough she treats you as much. “Hold on. Wait, I'm-"
Examine her face. It’s not sour and she hasn’t stormed out or even slapped you.
“No, no. You don’t have to say it. I’m. I’m sorry oppa.” She looks down. “I'm the one messing up after all." Her heartbeat a harsh snare drum. "And you. You're. Different. Looking at you always made me feel some, something funny. Not funny but? Ugh. I wish I could explain it.”
You hold in your confusion.
She blabbers on, “Like, are. Are you mad? I promise you, I,” A nervous breath, ”I like you. Okay?"
Your confusion grows like the length of your silence.
"I’m just acting how I really am with you. Do you want to maybe, I don't know, like," her voice decrescendos, "Um. Punish me?”
Your heart, your brain are deprived of blood as it all rushes down. Did you hear that right? Not an apology, not retribution, but a call to punishment? Misinterpreting her, the consequences would be dire but that damned demure tone for such an erotic request. Was Jiwoo the exact type of slut constructed in your mind? The one that made you feel sinful for even imagining. No, no, there's no way.
Too late. Jiwoo must have noticed the absurd bulge now. It had to be these Adidas pants today. Fuck it. Life can’t be lived fully without risk. Hopefully, the same switch turned in her mind. You remove all ire from your face and say in earnest, “Do you like games?"
She lights up a little. You sigh relieved.
"Let’s try…”, you say, ”Strip recording.” She lights up a little more, so you go on, ”If I mess up anything, the mix, the composition, the arrangement, I’ll take off a piece of clothing. Your choice. And every time you mess up-”
Jiwoo unbuttons her denim shorts and brings them down her tight legs.
“D- did I say now?”
However, with her resolve steeled, she continues pulling them. "So what? I did mess up, right?" she says coquettish. Deliberate the turn she makes when she bows down to remove the shorts from her legs, Jiwoo reveals a hint of her innie pussy on that same little ass that ran through your mind earlier. A small trace of her thighs glistens, the only thing reflecting the single lightbulb’s glow in the microphone’s abode. She turns back to face you. "Please. Punish me."
Step closer until Jiwoo backs up to the soundproofing. She’s an eighth note away from your face, flashing her beady eyes and a coy smile, ”Where's your underwear?" A little drop spills out onto the floor, "And why are you so wet, Jiwoo-ah?”
Red on her cheeks, like she only now realized her dishevelment in front of you. “You just… Something about you snapping at me. I don’t get it either. I knew you'd do it, some day, I wanted you to," she mumbles in her best efforts to answer you.
“Have you ever worn underwear to the recordings?”
Those efforts continue to fail.
"Oh, Kim Jiwoo. What do I do with you?" One of your hands grabs her cheek. The other crawls down her back to grab her cheek.
“Oppa… Do I have to say it?”
“I want to hear every." Smack. "Word." Smack. She slips a moan.
“Can you," she says, "can you use my mouth?”
You disguise your long pause as thought, teasing the bare skin of her ass with your exploratory fingers to bide time, but it's an expression of your shock. The interruption helps you come up with a more suitable punishment however.
“How about this then. Every time you mess up, you have to give me a blowjob. Call?”
“Call!” Once more, unprompted, she kneels down in front of you and claws away your track pants. You roll with the punches.
"Oppaa," with an pronounced pop and in a sing-songy rhythm, "I've always wanted to know, if your dick-" It certainly didn't need Jiwoo's dainty hands pulling on your boxers, as it would've sprang out on its own with how like diamond your cock is getting.
"Fuuuck," the first profanity you ever hear her utter, she lilts. "Please. Oppa. Fuck my face?"
After all she said, she could still surprise you. Bring your hips forward and just as you would've her pussy, tease Jiwoo’s lips with the head of your dick. She parts them open, starved, anxious.
Hold her by the chin. "Wait."
She freezes at the command. Again, like foreplay, rub her lips with that head making them turn redder and more plump. You sweep aside her bangs to see her begging eyes. More importantly, slide your dick up to her nude forehead to slap as a first act of retribution. “A-ah!” Jiwoo stutters as you slap her face with your manhood again and again. Bring your cock back down and she's already a mess without you even having entered her mouth. A little drool from her shut lips gently massages your balls while a bit of precum drools from your slit to meet those lips.
Jiwoo mumbles as best as she can with you holding her jaw shut and your dick on her lips, "Please. Please. Shove your dick in me. I need you in my mouth."
You squint your rough eyes to command her.
Muffled still, "Oppa. Please. I. I need to taste you. You just, you're so thick and you're so long and cock is perfect and please I just-"  Loosen the grip on her chin to let her envelop the entire tip with her warm lips. "Mmmmm..." the moan resonates a saw wave and your stern resolve fades away on your first entrance into her face but it returns as her teeth rub against you. She quickly readjusts her jaw but it takes multiple attempts of you pulling out and her sucking you back until only silken lips hold your cock's head. Finally. A focused glint in her eyes. She endeavours to keep your tip in her mouth as long as possible.
You were mad at her earlier, weren't you?
Recall this anger and press yourself into her with all your hips' strength, working against the force of her lip's airtight suction. Saliva leaks to betray the seal. Jiwoo's prying tongue explores the underside of your cock but you reach an impasse while she's not even halfway down the shaft. You shove your dick deeper but to no avail and tears roll down her eyes joining the fluids coating her lips. Thus you exit back out. And back in you go to repeat and repeat and slowly increase your rate, becoming rough sex with her diligent mouth. All the positions you’ve imagined fucking her little pussy, you picture using her throat instead. Even in this compact studio, the couch, chair and desk would provide ample support for you to use her in many ways. The dirty thoughts inspire your speed right now. She slurps and gulps at every quick plunge but you realize her moans and rumbles aren't just incoherent reactions. You decelerate.
“Ah, ahhh, ahhhhhh… Ah’ve ahways- Hmph.” She slurs as she tries her hardest to communicate while her airway is blocked.
She slides up your cock to catch some air, “Thought about it- Mmm.”
“Your dick in my mouth and it’s just so pew, fect- Ahhh.” Jiwoo's lips let go gently then her tongue sticks out to lick up your cock and she shows off a trail of spit leading to your tip. A less patient man would’ve jerked himself off right there to grant her eyes and open mouth's unison request to feed on your cum.
Instead you retort, “You think you’ve earned it? Not even halfway down. Going nowhere, just like our recording sessions, huh?”
“Shut up!”
“Oof.” You’re already weak in the knees so Jiwoo's one handed shove sends your tailbone to the floor. Since you’re still dazed by her confounding strength, she takes initiative and kowtows her head into your lap to crawl down your cock with her tiny lips. Fondling your balls, Jiwoo starts from the furthest point she could muster on your shaft up to your cock head. Her tongue follows back and she starts playing under your tip to swirl that tongue around the most sensitive parts until it explores your slit. You buckle and groan. Jiwoo sucks and spits and sucks while she circles only the most minimal twisting motion of her lips on your head. This is the Jiwoo you know. Relentless. Only now your load is her magnus opus.
Her right hand strays downwards and her face on your dick blocks a full view but you can tell that hand is working as intensely as her mouth. As she strokes herself with more vigor, she starts humming a satisfied melody on your tip. In kind, your subtle grunts turn into full-bodied moans. You're a single measure away from your coda so you reach down and pull her off your cock by grabbing her neck.
You glare into her. “Desperate little girl, aren't you?”
Her breath is stilted and she's nearly shaking. “Please…” she sobs, ”You, you want it as bad as I do right?” Of course. “Won't you just cum for me?” Not now. Not when you have putty in your hands.
“You're making a mess. You can't take me all the way down. And I see that it’s not just your saliva coating the floor.” Point to the spot where she kneels, her drool joins a stain growing ever larger with a strand of juice from her pussy flowing as you continue to berate her. Then you point to her hand. Ha. “Were you playing with yourself using my pencil?”
“No… Wait!”
You back off. “Your top’s a mess too. Anyone can tell I just fucked your face.” You take off your black hoodie and give it to her. “I’ll see you tomorrow for our next session.”
“Wait, we didn’t book tomorrow, did we? Also, you can’t just leave me like this! Oppa!”
"I said, I'll see you tomorrow. I have to go,“ you remind her, ”Ha Rin’s picking you up. And give me back that pencil.”
She hands it to you, unable to meet your eyes despite hers lusting over your cock. You'll definitely use the alluring musk on it for later to save you from your self-induced blue balls. Exit the booth. Of course she barely waits to use your hoodie the same way since she doesn’t notice you lingering in the room. Instead of hiding the grey long sleeve that soaks her neck, your used sweatshirt covers Jiwoo’s face as her fingers make the mess on the floor larger.

Swear to god I’m not just writing the cutest idols to write for. I mean maybe I am but also this answer from @nsfwtwicecatcher and all the subsequent pictures that I found of Chuu pouting inspired me. Also, this was a longer piece but I kept spinning my tires on it and decided to split it up, so look out for more.

What are your thoughts on Cores? Are they all a type of element? (i.e Ice, Fire, Plant, Electric, etc) Could they be based one some kind of temperature slider? What kind of core would the Lunch Lady have? Would she have a simple hot/fire Core? Or would she have a sort of strange “Meat” Core? Idk I’m asking you
i love the concept of cores! i like to think cores are like the ghost’s mind and heart (but rolled into one and put in their chest) with the “mind” half being their obsession and the “heart” half being their element. i like to think theyre all elemental like fire ice and all that! i feel a core merely fuels the ghost, and the element is just a minor detail dictating certain features (do they feel more hot or cold to the touch? is their image slightly more fuzzed out like fire or pulsing with electricity? are they more rigid yet see through like ice? ect. though these traits are hard to see unless your looking really closely or have a good eye like frostbite taking one look at danny and knowing he has an ice core). like its more how the ghost is comprised/holding its ectoplasm together so i dont believe it dictates what their literal powers are.
hmmmmm think about it like atla nations! like sokka is very clearly water tribe with his clothes, culture, weapons, and natural inclination to the cold but that doesnt mean he’s a waterbender. i think about cores like that basically if that makes any sense! a good example of core not equaling power would be ember, she would have a fire core but her powers is clearly based on sound and music despite the aesthetic! which brings us to our next point..........
im very inclined to the idea that obsessions are wrapped up along in the core. its essentially the gas tank to the whole operation. the more a ghost indulges their obsession the more powerful they become and this is where their true power comes from. the actual elemental part is just the outer shell glue holding everything together and only particularly powerful ghosts, ghosts fortunate enough to have their element and obsession align, or ones simply smart enough to figure out how to tap in would learn their element and use it outwardly.
lets use danny as an example of “a powerful ghost using his core”, danny’s power was building so much that he physically felt freezing no what temperature it was or how much he bundled up. even in ghost form he was constantly shivering. danny’s core was literally freezing him from the inside out and needed to release the excess energy, he had no choice but to learn how to do this and just use ice powers. on the other hand though, this means he can use his ice powers far more frequently and exclusively as his main mode of attack if he wanted to. basically ghosts in this category have no choice but to use their elemental core lest they become a ticking time bomb of repression to themselves (i also like to believe tapping into ones core is very difficult to do hence danny needing to be taught instead of like accidentally releasing it or something, many ghosts born with the POTENTIAL to have this really powerful core ability often cease to exist because it destroys themselves from the inside out. thats why theres not many of them). other examples of this category would be frostbite and undergrowth.
contenders for the “fortunate enough to have their element and obsession align” would be technus. electricity is probably the most common type of element for this category in all honesty. technus is obsessed with technology, and while i would say most of his powers are “possessing” technology with his basic package of ghost powers theres no denying the dude definitely has some sparks flying. i feel like if your obsession is already close to your element then its only reasonable you stumble upon a natural way to use it. but heres the key difference between a ghost like technus and a ghost like danny: if technus can use electricity all the time then why bother possessing electronics? simple answer is thats just not sustainable. danny is literally overfilling with energy, he has so much excess its spilling over and will literally kill him if he doesnt blast off a couple of ice beams here and there. technus is pulling energy from his core, its not excess, hes just tapping into this extra reservoir of power, but if he uses it TOO much he will have the exact opposite problem of danny. basically expending too much of your own battery that you die from lack of power. unless you are the first category of ghosts, tapping into your core at all should be used sparingly.
“simply smart enough to figure out how to tap into their core” would be ghosts like ember and skulker. a musician pop star would have nothing to do with fire, likewise a hunter with electricity, but these two are able to minorly use their element abilities. “smart” probably isnt the right word to use here, but more or less for one reason or another, these ghosts figured it out and are now using their cores. thats basically all there is to it. though i will say, having a core strong enough in general to have power to tap into in the first place is another deciding factor for all three of these categories. with that, lets move on to the last set of ghosts.
going aaaaaaaall the way back to your original question of whether or not a ghost like the lunch lady would have a “meat core” or something like that, the final group of ghost are ones that simply dont use their elemental core at all. they instead lean into their obsessions. ghosts in this category can be here for a number of reasons, perhaps the shell of their core is very minor and weak and they cant use that elemental power no matter how hard they try, perhaps theyre so focused on their obsession they may not even need their elemental, perhaps they just simply cant learn how to tap into their core at all because they dont have enough sentience.
i would say the lunch lady and the box ghost are the “too weak to use their elements” ghosts, but that doesnt mean they are powerless! i like to think all ghosts have a “basic package of ghost powers” with levitation/telekinesis being one of them, the only difference among the ghosts is how their obsessions dictate their natural affinity towards certain things. so while the lunch lady doesnt LITERALLY have a meat core, her obsession gives her the natural inclination towards food and meat. she can control these things with the most accuracy and power, it allows her to do things like making the meat suit and whatnot, its just what she’s best at controlling. regardless, these ghosts can never learn how to use their elemental core but thats okay. their obsessions is just a different path to take. speaking of which........
“so focused on their obsession they dont even need their elemental core” is clockwork. hes just so powerful on his own, why would he need to use that? does he even have an elemental core to control? who knows and who cares because the dude can LITERALLY CONTROL TIME. another example would be desiree, maybe even the ghost writer. these guys already gain so much power from their obsession it doesnt matter whether or not they have the ability to use them or not. thats sorta the beauty in this category! because you know who else can fit in here? TUE box ghost. thats right, just because your elemental core is too weak to tap into doesn’t mean youre weak. in the ultimate enemy, the future box ghost is genuinely powerful. his abilities to control boxes extend beyond just levitating and throwing them around, he can make these pink plasma boxes and hes a genuine threat to behold. he leaned into his obsession and it developed enough to this point of power. again, loop this back to the atla comparison i was making earlier, just because someone is a nonbender doesnt make them weak! those nonbenders lean into learning different skill sets until mastery and become very formidable foes. just because youre not born with it doesn’t mean you cant git gud. on the other hand......
the very last kind of ghosts are the “cant learn how to use their core because theyre not sentient/intelligent enough”. these are ghosts like the blob ghosts, ectopusses, maybe even cujo and other animal ghosts if we’re being honest. using your core doesnt come naturally, it needs to be taught and learned, you have to actually train to use it. so in cases like these ghosts, they just dont have the thought process to do this. hell, some of them like the blobbies may not even have fully formed obsessions. their more scribbles, raw ideas, pure emotion giving sentience to ectoplasm. with cujo (assuming he has an elemental shell strong enough), you could argue that you can train him to use his core like its a dog trick, but in all honesty this would be very very difficult to do and whether or not cujo can use it on his own is debatable.

Happy New Schmear
Well, 2020 was a helluva clusterfuck-train-wreck-sewer-explosion-dumpster-fire of a year, and to be honest, 2021 ain't off to that great of a start really. Look at 'Murica. The trumpty-dumpties tried their inane, lunacy- and conspiracy theory-fueled "revolution" at the Capitol, and how'd that end up? Bunch of bearded, beer-bellied, barely literate, bandana-wearing bumpkins. Aaaargh! And Covid is on the rise here in Japan, so the gov has announced a second "state of emergency" but all they're doing is "asking" people to avoid unnecessary outings and for drinking/eating establishments to close at 8pm. We're doomed.
But, the gear quest continues! The B200 wasn't doing it for me, not enough control, so I said fuggit and bought a DX7II-D, the second one I've owned actually. Obviously, 6-op full control is miles ahead of what I was dealing with using the B200, but there are no Easy Edit features, so it's pretty much dive in with both feet, sink or swim. There are a few decent tutorials on youtube, especially the MadFame channel, and following those definitely helps get your head around the basic idea of how FM works. I'm no expert, but at least now I can think OK I want this kind of sound, and I have a feel for how to go about doing it, and can actually get close to what I had in mind, compared to before, when I had less than zero of a clue what to do. FM is nuts.
Tumblr media
What a mess I had going when I took that photo. I wanted a TG77 but they were going for like $500 and up, and that was outta the already non-existent budget, so I saw this for $99 and thought, well? Spent another $90 getting a bright green replacement LCD, that is actually so bright, I can't see the buttons or the knob or anything. Madness! This is a helluva synth though. AFM is no joke. every operator has two inputs, and you can freely assign feedback loops. Shit, you can even write your own algorithm! Mental as fuck. Such a rich, deep sound too. I love this synth. Not too keen about the size, but there's always a compromise.
Tumblr media
Replacing the LCD was a HUGE task. Not for the faint of heart, seriously. I followed Midera's video and that was a huge help. You literally have to remove EVERYTHING to get to the LCD. But at least the replacement was a plug & play drop-in replacement. I replaced the backup battery while I was in there. I can't remember if I replaced the tact switches... I've done that so many times on so many pieces of gear in the past half year that it's not even funny. Seriously. Today for example....
Tumblr media
Tact switch highjinks on a KORG RE1. I picked up an O3 R/W, as I was getting the itch to use M1 sounds into my projects but didn't wanna deal with USB dongles and camera kits and all the associated iPad paraphernalia. So I bought an O3 R/W, and saw an RE1, remote editor, and was like YES, and bid an insane amount considering I'm really in no position to be spending money on this stuff right now, but luckily won the auction for $125. The tact switches were like NOPE, so I replaced them all, except for the A-H buttons under the LCD because those worked fine. 30-minute job and now it's good as new. Using the RE-1 I guess makes the O3 R/W (or the M3 as it works with that too) rather like an M1R as far as interface goes. I don't recall if the M1R has sliders, but I know it has the bigger (wider) LCD. Less pages to scroll through and you get a blurb that tells you what the parameter is you're editing displayed in the upper right hand corner. VERY happy to have gotten this.
In other news, I impulse bought an old Fostex 3070 compressor for shits and giggles and it's turned to tears and sniffles as the left channel is just not working right whatsoever. I've replaced all the caps, and socketed and replaced all the ICs except for one (the LM2309 comparator). And it was like NOPE. Cleaner, but still it was not functioning right and there was a huge difference in output levels between sides. So I think the comparator chip that I haven't replaced, on the left channel, is the culprit, as when I mess with the Expander/Gate switch and knob, all hell breaks loose. It's an odd chip though, they went with a 9-pin SIP (single in-line package) chip instead of a standard, 8-pin, DIP (dual in-line package) chip. The former is a chip that is long and skinny and has one row of 9 pins along the bottom, whereas the latter is a small black rectangle with four pins on either side. I did look at the schematics and saw that pins 1 and 9 are routed to +V, and that if you just shift pins so that 1 is left unconnected, the pinout will match a DIP chip. Aitendo to the rescue! They sell converter baby PCBs so you can pretty much change between any kind of IC format.
Tumblr media
And that is the part in question. I'll put a socket on the PCB where the original chip sits, and see what happens. No great expectations but who knows. For the ultra tech savvy of yous out there, you'll know that a certain big name four-letter electronic act of the 90s used the 3070 and ran their whole mix through it. Hehehe. Yeah ok so that is basically what I had in mind, but who knows. If the thing comes back to life, we'll see...
I suppose that is pretty much it for now, my invisible, ethereal pals out there. Have fun!

Caught on Fire
Part 4
Summary: The Josephs make an announcement, and you and Josh have another great date.  Pairing: Josh Dun x Reader Word Count: 1570 (not including lyrics) Warnings: None? A/N: Sorry for the late post! Thank you also to @svintsandghosts, @faceofcontvsions, and @takenvysleep for your suggestions for the song in this chapter ... like I said, something came to me as soon as the comments started coming in, but I hope you can enjoy what I chose :)
Series Masterlist
When the day of the barbecue arrived, you were more nervous than you would have thought you would be. You went about your normal day-off routine — go for a run, eat breakfast, shower, get dressed — although you did put a little more care into your appearance today. You had met most of these people before, but never as Josh’s date. Somehow, that made you more nervous than you had ever been with Chad.
“You think people will talk? You know, since I dated Chad before and now I’m dating you?” you asked Josh during the car ride to Tyler and Nicole’s house.
He thought for a minute. “I don’t know why they would. They all know there was a clean split between you and Chad, and he’s been gone for a while now. There’s nothing to talk about — except that I’m a lucky guy, getting you to show up with me.”
You smiled and let his words calm your fears on the gossip front. It had been long enough since you had seen everyone, you wanted to make a good first impression. Second impression. Whatever the number was, you wanted them to like you as much now as they did before.
The ice was broken almost immediately when you saw Zack on the back patio, sipping from a bottle of water and chatting with Mark, another firefighter.
“Look who’s up and walking,” you smiled, going to hug him. “Much better than the last time I saw you.”
Zack chuckled and gave you a comfortable side hug. “Yeah, feeling way better now that that clot is dissolved.”
“How’d you manage to get out? Four days ago you were struggling to breathe.”
“It helps when your sister-in-law is the hospital’s favorite trauma doctor,” Nicole teased, coming out of the slider carrying a fruit tray.
You smiled and asked if you could help with anything. “I don’t mind.”
“You help enough at work,” she assured, carefully navigating her way toward the table where food was already being set up.
You shrugged and looked around for Josh who hadn’t stuck around long once the two of you made it into the backyard. You spotted him over by Tyler, who was grilling burgers and hot dogs. Smiling to yourself, you beelined for him.
“Y/N, hey,” Tyler greeted, giving you a high-five as Josh put an arm around you.
“Doing okay?” Josh asked.
You nodded. “Yeah, I’m good. Saw Zack. Good to see him out of the hospital.”
“No kidding,” Tyler scoffed. “If you can think of anything to convince him not to ever pull a stunt like that again, I’d appreciate it.”
Though your first reaction was to chuckle, you knew better than to let it out; Tyler was being serious. No one worried about their little brother more than Tyler did.
“I’m gonna grab a drink — want one?” Josh asked.
You nodded. “Yeah, water’s great. Thank you.”
He left for the cooler, but you turned back to Tyler. You could tell from his furrowed expression that he wasn’t impressed at all with Zack and his hospital stint, and you wondered what kind of conversations had happened since Zack got to come home.
“He looks up to you, you know,” you commented.
Tyler flopped the hamburgers onto a plate and shut the grill cover. “Will you see if Nic has another plate for the hot dogs?”
“Yeah, of course.” You hoped you hadn’t upset him anymore than he already was, and made a mental note to mention to Josh that you may have crossed the line.
Before too long, everyone was seated around the patio, munching on burgers and hot dogs and pasta salad and all the other barbecue usuals. There was some conversation between bites and emptying plates, including a few questions sent your direction about how things had been going since Chad left.
“It was rough for a little bit, which is to be expected, I guess,” you shrugged. “When he left, he pretty much just stopped talking to me, all together. I expected some communication, since the only reason we split was that he moved. But it was just … nothing.”
Josh reached over to squeeze your hand. “He actually cut off with all of us, I think. Like I don’t think any of us talked to him after he left.”
You shrugged again. “It is what it is. I got over it, got into work, made friends. And now I’m here.”
“Right where she should be,” Brad spoke up. “With our Joshy!”
“Joshy?” you repeated on a laugh. “Oh, that one’s gonna stick.”
The somewhat somber moment was lightened by everyone’s laughter. You helped Nicole clean up from the food mess and package away the leftovers, then chatted in the kitchen with her until Tyler announced that it was time.
“Time for what?”
Nicole smiled but didn’t answer. You followed her out through the slider, trekking over to where Josh was seated around the patio table. You leaned gently against him, one arm draped over his shoulder. He tilted his chin up to you, and you leaned over for a kiss.
“If we could have everyone’s attention,” Tyler said, his arm around his wife. Her eyes were tearing a little, and you worried what might be coming next. What if the Josephs were going to be the next to move away?
You reached for Josh’s hand, squeezing hard. He squeezed back, exchanging a puzzled look with you.
“We waited to wait until things were more certain, so you’ll have to forgive us for not saying anything earlier,” Tyler continued. “You wanna tell ‘em?”
Josh held his breath while Nicole wiped a tear, but tried to keep her cool. It wasn’t often that Tyler made any announcement about his life and Josh didn’t know about it first. Judging from the looks on everybody’s face, though, nobody knew what was coming next.
Finally, Nicole took a deep breath and let a smile take over. “We’re having a baby!”
A collective sigh of relief was followed by cheers and congratulations. Something resembling a receiving line formed for everyone to hug or shake hands with the parents-to-be, with Josh and Y/N bringing up the the last of the line.
“Don’t even give me that look,” Tyler laughed. “I wanted to tell you, but someone wouldn’t let me.”
“I wanted to tell them all together!” Nicole defended, accepting Y/N’s hug. Josh hugged her too, then stuck around while the ladies talked due dates and nursery themes.
He couldn’t believe how happy he felt in that moment — and it wasn’t even his good news. But he was standing with his best friend, talking about an amazing life milestone, and an amazing girl was standing at his side. His brain fast-forwarded, and saw the four of them hosting kids’ parties together and going on double dates and prepping for his and Y/N’s wedding day together.
“Hey,” Y/N beckoned, elbowing him gently. “You still with us, Dun?”
He nodded and kissed her cheek. “Oh, yeah. I’m with you.”
After helping with clean up after everyone left, Josh drove Y/N back to her house. Neither of them were ready to part for the evening, so she poured each of them a glass of lemonade and sat on her back porch.
“Lightning bugs,” she smiled, pointing to a corner of the yard. “We used to chase them around when I was little. Never had the heart to put them in a jar and keep them, though.”
Josh simply smiled. He drank his lemonade and enjoyed every second of being in her presence that he could manage. When both of their glasses were empty, Josh stood from his chair and extended a hand to her.
“Dance with me.”
She raised a brow, but didn’t protest or question his motives. Her hand slipped into his, and the other rested just behind his shoulder. Josh settled his free arm around the small of her back and swayed them back and forth. He hummed a tune in his throat, until all the words came back to him.
Someday when I’m awfully low When the world is cold I will feel a glow Just thinking of you And the way you look tonight
Y/N grinned when she recognized the song and joined in on the next part.
Yes, you’re lovely, with your smile so warm And your cheeks so soft There is nothing for me but to love you And the way you look tonight
She swallowed and licked her lips. “I suppose love is a little intense at this point.”
“But not completely out of the question,” Josh replied. “Sooner than you might think.”
He didn’t need a swarm of those lightning bugs to see her blush. He continued humming while they danced, until he realized what she might be hinting about.
“You ready for us to call this exclusive?” he asked.
She looked at the ground, taking a step away and wringing her hands. “I didn’t mean to be subtle or to fish, I just — we said we needed to figure out what this thing is, and then we didn’t talk about it again, and I — I want us to be exclusive. This thing, Josh, I want it to be us. Together.”
Josh hooked a finger under her chin. “Look at me. I wanna see your eyes when I tell you that it’d be the second luckiest day of my life when you agree to be my girl.”
“Second luckiest?”
Josh raised a brow, giving her a second to catch on to his point. She laughed, leaning into him; Josh caught her face in his hands and kissed her hard.
He kissed his girl.

Topaz Sharpen AI Can Work Wonders - Review
If you are trying Sharpen AI or other Topaz Labs products, please consider using my affiliate link. There is no extra cost to you and it helps support tutorials like this one. Ready to buy? Click my link and use the offer code FRIEND15 at checkout and SAVE 15%!
An application specifically to sharpen images has not been a part of my workflow for a long time. Several years back, I had Nik Sharpener Pro because I had the Nik collection. I didn’t use Sharpener Pro. The level of sharpening I got from my standard micro-contrast adjustments with ON1 or Lightroom were plenty for me. Until … they weren’t enough.
Who Is Sharpen AI For?
Sharpen AI is for many types of photographers. If you are a handheld photographer, Topaz Sharpen AI will make the camera shake in those slightly blurry photos photos disappear, giving you crisp and sharp images. Wildlife and portrait photographers can correct for misses in focus. And for the landscape photographers, Sharpen AI has general sharpening for scenes that are just slightly soft (which sometimes happens with RAW files).
Sharpen AI because part of my toolkit out of need. I was taking in a stunning sunrise and captured a hand-held pano sweep. Unfortunately, when I was reviewing the images back in the studio, a couple of the panels of the sequence were a little soft. I was shooting handheld, with a longer lens, and didn’t take enough care to pause enough between each image. That’s when I started looking at sharpening applications again, and Topaz Sharpen AI saved my pano.
Is Sharpen AI Any Good?
In a word, absolutely! I’ve used Sharpen AI on several different photos already. Watch the video to see how well the different AI models work. Like any tool, Sharpen AI has strengths and weaknesses - and AI doesn’t work miracles.
Topaz Sharpen AI Strengths
Fantastic results. This is what’s most important - the results. Images refined with Sharpen AI are crisp and clean. Image quality is excellent.
Multiple AI Models. Different photos need different types of sharpening. Sharpen AI has three models to select from. It can auto-analyze your photo and select one for you, too.
Control. Topaz gives you the photographer control over the AI model selected. The tool buttons and sliders let you tailor how strong or gentle to apply sharpening.
Topaz Sharpen AI Weaknesses
Speed. Adjustments to the AI models and sliders take a few seconds on average to re-render the image.
Masking. The masking tool is functional, but basic. It is a little sluggish. I recommend using layering another app with stronger masking tools (Photoshop, ON1 Photo RAW, etc.) to selectively apply sharpening.
I have found Sharpen AI to be very capable and providing extra-fine detail. Often, the automatic detection is all that’s needed to apply the correct AI sharpening model with just the right amount of strength.
The AI is smart in this tool, too. It understands depth in a scene. In the example here, notice how sharp the “Sacramento” sign becomes, yet the background maintains a level of softness. I photographed this scene with a shallower depth of field. Sharpen AI recognized that and didn’t override my creative field choice.
Sharpen AI is encouraging me to shoot more handheld. While I make all attempts to stabilize my camera in the field, I know I don’t have the steadiest hands.
The Sharpen AI Controls
The controls in Sharpen AI are simple yet powerful. There are three sections in the control panel and the workflow is top to bottom. First, a sharpening model is selected, the model is fine tuned, and finally (if needed) some grain can be added to the image.
Image Quality
The Image Quality section is where you select the AI model to apply to your image. Sharpen AI has three models to control the type of sharpening applied to a photo. Click the Auto button to have Sharpen AI analyze your image and select the model it thinks is best, or select one yourself.
Motion Blur. This model corrects for softness resulting from subject movement in a frame. Camera shake from a handheld photo, or scenes with a moving subject like a panning shot, are examples where the Motion Blur model works well.
Out Of Focus. This model corrects for missed focus in a photo. For example, a wildlife photo of a bird where you try to set focus on the bird’s eye, but miss slightly. This model works well to correct sharpness.
Too Soft. This model is for general sharpening. When a photo is soft overall, this model is a good choice.
The Auto setting usually gets things right, but not always. Watch the video around the 9 minute mark for an example of when the Auto option chooses incorrectly.
Beneath the AI model buttons are additional controls These help refine the AI model. Make a selection based on the nature of the photo being sharpened.
Normal. The most commonly used choice. A photo is soft and a little blurry.
Very Noisy. An image that is both soft and very noisy. (Sidebar: You may prefer to use a dedicated noise reduction tool to manage noise. My preferred tools in ON1 NoNoise.)
Very Blurry. Select this for photos that are extremely blurry.
It can sometimes be difficult to tell where the line is between a “normal” blurry photo and one that is “very” blurry. If Normal still feels soft, you can try Very Blurry or visit the sliders in the Settings section.
Settings
The sliders in the Settings area further refine the amount of sharpening. Adjust these sliders after selecting an AI model. There is also an Auto button to give you a starting point.
Remove Blur. Set how little or how much blur is removed. I think of this slider as how “aggressive” do I want to let the AI be when sharpening.
Suppress Noise. Reduce noise artifacts from the sharpening process. Sometimes sharpening can accentuate or exaggerate noise. This slider helps keep that in check.
Post Processing
In the Post Processing section of the controls (collapsed in the screen shot here) is a single Add Grain slider. The reason for the slider is to reintroduce grain to an image if the sharpening algorithms removed too much of any original noise. I never use this slider. If I have a need to reintroduce grain into a photo, I have other tools to do that.
Selective Sharpening With Sharpen AI
Sharpen AI includes a basic masking brush with edge detection to selectively apply sharpening to an image. Press the M key to activate the masking tools (or click the small mask icon in the lower right of the interface).
The controls in the lower left set the brush size, feather, and opacity including a toggle for edge detection. Standard keyboard shortcuts like the square bracket keys to resize the brush and the X key to toggle painting modes apply.
There is also a ‘Find Objects’ button to automatically find the main subjects in your photo. I have had moderate success with this option. The AI is pretty good about identifying subjects like cars or people, and gives options to include or exclude detected objects from the mask. For other scenes, like this landscape photo of water and ice, the AI could not pick out any subjects.
The masking brush is rudimentary and can get the job done. However, if you have other packages with masking functions, like Photoshop, I recommend using those. The masking tools are stronger.
Is Sharpen AI Worth It?
Sharpen AI retails for ~US$79 so it is not an inexpensive tool. It does only sharpening, yet what it does, it does very well. I think Sharpen AI is worth the investment for specific types of photographers. If you are a wildlife photographer capturing fast-moving subjects, or take lots of handheld images, you will find plenty of use for Sharpen AI in your workflow.
For the straight-up landscape photographer, Sharpen AI can give you a boost in detail throughout an image, if your images come out of camera a little soft to begin with. I’d suggest taking advantage of the Sharpen AI free trial download and measuring the results for yourself.

Heyday Brewing
Tumblr media
"I don't even remember what was here before." This is a statement I feel like I'm been making lately around Raleigh. As developers continues to try to find more nooks and crannies of the Oak City to cram new buildings in, communities like North Raleigh's 5401 North seem to arise from nowhere.
Tumblr media
One of the planned anchors of the 5401 North development was to be a brewery. The team who brought the brewery into reality was longtime NC chef, Kevin Callaghan of Carrboro's ACME, and brewer William McGeehee from Louisiana's Tin Roof Brewery. Although the brewery project has changed over time, though all the changes it became Heyday Brewery.
Tumblr media
The menu at Heyday Brewing is a list of food that pairs well with beer, including pizzas and a few Louisiana trademarks. One of our particular favorites is the smoked seafood dip. Heyday doesn't fool around with a pretty presentation of artisan crackers. Instead, they just give you a row of Ritz, still in the packaging. There's a bit of childhood nostalgia ripping open the pack and diving them into the dip.
Tumblr media
A generous portion of the red beans and rice somewhat makes up for the lack of spice.
Tumblr media
Paired up with the beans and rice was an equally impressive serving of crawfish.
Tumblr media
Po'boy sliders are the true stars of Heyday's collection of creole inspired dishes. Crispy fried oysters and a quality bun makes for a delightful meal.
Tumblr media
Sometimes pizza at breweries are just are akin to Chuck E. Cheese pizza, you didn't come for the food but eventually you get hungry enough to order their subpar 'za.
Tumblr media
With this in mind, I was apprehensive of Heyday's pizza offerings. However, the pizzas at Heyday have a great textured crust, flavorful toppings and overall a solid pie.
Tumblr media
Heyday's soft serve ice cream is fit for the brewery's sunny patio on warm days. They even provide a bit of fun with colorful and Instagramable sundaes, which was the case for their PRIDE month sundae
There's plenty of legit criticism of the all the new development in Raleigh but hopefully with places like Heyday Brewing, a place which has impacts beyond food and drink with initiatives like paying living wages to their staff, people can see the good development can do too.

1st June
Sipped on mango juice through the night.
Up at around 9 from mother’s rigid voice and all her disputes with father.
Got up shut the door and shut the window. I could still hear her.
I finally placed multiple orders on ear buds..
Today she thinks dads out with a woman
I put on back to sleep playlist and later fell asleep. It was hard work, to fall asleep,
Dad called. I ignored it.
Kay called. I ignored it.
Up before 3pm and out of bed by 3
I cried before sleeping from all the frustration and triggering the sack of thoughts about my never ending tribulations and vast entrapment by mother.
Dreams? A little fucked up.
Shambolic scenarios being slammed in and out of one from another.
Killing bunnies?
Interrupted sex dream?
Other weird & hectic shit happened I cannot recall but I remember being sucked in by my pillows into some visions like a vacuum literally PULLING my face in. This happened twice and funny thing, I was in my mind REALISING it but also having the want to not... wake up because of it so I gave in again. It soon..was getting intense. Not scary but just hitting the red meter and I thought I’d burst and die and mentally I recited my shahada. Again, no fear, just intensity. Who dreams like this? For someone who dreams a lot this was something new I experienced.
When I woke all I concluded was that I really wanted to sleep. I hadn’t gotten enough and knew I wanted to get some more to meet the amount I should have gotten.
By 4pm completed the last mask sitting in the bed in my parents room.
Packed it up got ready. The little one tagged along. Dad came home and stormed back out. Mother has been fighting over the phone with him since the morning disrupting my sleep. I can hear her all day as I get on with my own day.
We went to post office to drop the mask sack off. Learnt what postage stamps are really for. A source of posting currency. Second band I sent it. Dad actually waited near the shops on the way there spontaneously, he called and we hopped in.
He took us McDonalds and we ate sitting in beckton car park. It was hot.
The little un wanted to return her books and I also needed to go to the high street.
We didn’t do either and I felt bad for not having taken her where I told her we’d go.
She also mentioned the zoo recently and I said a couple weeks time.
I’ve got to tell work I ain’t working my usual days then I’ll plan the zoo.
The car park is pretty empty. Around us boxed tarmac and in front upgraded stores.
Dads wearing a half sleeved shirt and
I wanted a fag as he had his.
I sat at the front, the little one at the back.
She talks about newspapers and her friends hand drawing being in today’s paper. She wanted to see. Dad only had dated ones.
I had one in my hands now and decided to do a crossword puzzle and a sudoku. I was really into the crossword as we arrived home.
We came home and through the journey dad talked about mother’s behaviour and she called a couple times and I didn’t like it. She is just so bothersome. Rightfully so but to witness it and know enough of what’s going on I’d without a doubt shove a muzzle on my mother for life and let my dad be. She would also be settled by this. Then I would be and that’s my main motive.
6pm
Tried to poop. Fail.
Eldest was in the shower. She was prompt.
Middle one wanted to go. I got out unbothered as i couldn’t go.
Came up
18:10
Lit up out the window.
My heart does that thing again.
Somethings deeply wrong. Inside of me I know for a fact there’s a riot, flaccid tears, somewhere along in the past couple weeks or further back I malfunctioned.
I don’t know if this is anxiety or not but I find myself alone and noticing my heart beating at an abnormal rate. It is everything but peace. I feel horrifyingly unsettled. I’ve got the essays I’ve got to write on my mind. It’s a factor in play as well as the wrecked sleep and I just feel so so insufferable these days. I can’t stop it, I try to be calm, I seem calm, I tell myself calm, I am so, but just as I am, I am entirely not all fine. Whatcwr this is I need it stop. My motner and her aura, ber behaviour which wrecks my sleep every morning as well as being underpaid at work and so many otber reasons. I cannot seem to stabilise myself correctly enough anymore. Everytime I want to yell at my parents it goes down mentally and when with them individually it’s to come out as I would be deemed crazy to blurt these issues out at the wrong times. At the right time it doesn’t work either. Either their good mood or their something is in the way. I’m doing so many things wrong and i just feel I’m in the middle of an identity crisis too. I don’t go to uni, I picture my desk and have no clue what’s there, I don’t go so label it as I can’t go, my baby sis is growing up and I haven’t been there, day by day I still feel I’m doing wrong by her, now that I’ve started work I’ve wasted time to better things with her. I don’t want to be here in this house and nobody will let me leave. I have no one to speak to because speaking to people is all that’s ever done, they hear they listen but they just don’t know the root of my problems and I am just beyond in need of help. How do I survive another year of this and manage to build the money and courage to move myself out of here, i don’t want grey hairs, if they show up I’ll know I’m damaging rn and I want to be settled if anything for now, for whatcwr this feeling inside of my chest is to mellow. It’s hectic between my rib cage there and my mind is swell. They are not in sync. I am not fine. Summer always had me feeling a type of way too. It’s a very very fine day and I want it but I feel once it comes around every year I’m not a part of it. Ever. It’s like it’s always for the world except for me. I cannot indulge in it enough to feel like it’s for me too.
The house is empty for now. Just us girls. Parents gone out to get some papers for the little one.
They may be back. I don’t know. I’m in my room holed up.
Mood today:
Absolutely off
Down
Unsettled, torn.
18:40 tbwy levaw. The sisters now. I’m all alone. It’s Such a rarity I don’t have time to pick what to do. Today’s agenda was to begin emailing Stewart and getting started on something to do with the essays.
I’m still dressed.
I cleaned up the powder that fell to the ground dispersing into a thousand pieces from my compact blush case.
I remember growing massively agitated over it as it was a fat mess and it fell like they always somehow accidentally do due to lack of space here and how I always always mentally be careful to not let them fall and they do anyway.AND I GET WO MAD
🆘
Recap
Been a busy day. Productive.
Moved extension cord back. Had to move alll my shoes and did rearrange them better seeing as the few at the bottom were damaging by the compression.
Tidied the messy tower of clothes on my chair.
Emptied the underwear drawers and distributed everyone’s own to their own rooms. Assigned the two empty drawers to the little one now. She needs the space.
Liphi went for her lip filler appointment today with Nam who didn’t wanna go with.
We FaceTimed later around 9:45 for a bit.
Her lips are bruised.
I cleaned the floor. Emptied the bin, enjoyed the brief empty house before bleaching and washing my shirts.
Shuffled some things around
Tidied the bedside table and some of the drawer, moved all the bundles of colour pencils and placed them in my art box under the bed, the drawer now has better space but still clogged as usual.
Opened a package which held my sports bras that I wanted more of after having one. They stabilise my breasts well.
The little one stayed by me as I cleaned my room. She was refolding her clothes all very neatly for their new place.
She went out with my parents when the house was empty to collect madrasah forms and tbwy went shopping at galleons. From H&M she bought a sky blue dress, trackies with hearts on them, pink sliders with cartoon slapped on and a pair of leggings.
Meals:
Macdonnas in the car with dad
Late night lasagne. 00:30
Ice cream from truck - sister bought after I sorted out everyone’s underwear with the little one in parents room. She sat in her car much of that hour.
Brain kicker
A nutty Lindt bar and I just ain’t taking care of my body anymore am I in terms of eating matter..
Notes
Sneezed 3 times
Thought about that bee lad at today.
Remembering to take my vitamins.
Killed my first mosquito tonight and seeing more than a couple. This means summer has officially kicked in.
Almost burnt the entire microwave down and could have blown a fuse. I placed my lasganve in and the wrapped food pack it was in caught fire immediately and I lunged at the push button.
Couldn’t blow the flames off as they were too great. Tossed it in the sink quickly and splashed water all over it which went everywhere too.
I was very alarmed. I don’t find myself in such situations that cause panic ever really.
Didn’t go to the Palestine protests as there were fights breaking out and harm occurring with the movement.
Humayra’s in the bathroom at midnight when I’ve already set my clothes in there and was ready to shower. I went back up for something and did an arm workout for 30 minutes or so including some rnr
I didn’t like that she was in there at this hour, why is it every time I need the bathroom she utilises it. I felt aggravated and those thoughts immediately crept in that I need out, I need my own place where I can get shit done without wasting these few minutes a couple hundred times a day of everyday due to others. It’s literally slowing my life down and she’s in the way of my kitchen and bathroom use, more so the latter this season.
So I showered, scrubbed my face, ears, in between toes and all and finally done with my day around 3am

Holiday Food and Baking List - for my own sanity
Mostly this is for me so it’s under a read-more
If you didn’t know, I go a bit crazy during December with the baking and the food making. This year there is a tiny chance we might end up hosting Christmas. Even if it doesn’t happen I’d still like to be prepared. Preparation starts now because my family won’t decide who gets it until like 3-4 days before the actual holiday.
Recipes are linked where I can manage it. Some are my own and in my head. Ingredients are listed so I can copy&paste into a Word Doc, print, and cross reference what’s in my pantry, fridge, and freezer so I know what to buy.
I am under mandate from R not to bake/cook myself sick this year. I know this seems like a lot but if I parcel the baking out to one item per day and start a week in advance it’s not really that bad. I am not doubling any batches this year. My roast beast is a crock pot meal. Soup and chili can both be made a day or two in advance and really, are best that way.
Christmas Baking
Chocolate Gingerbread Men (Without candy canes)
4 ounces of baking chocolate
½ cup cocoa
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
½ cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
½ cup granulated white sugar
2 tablespoon ground ginger
2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ cup molasses
1 large egg
Santa’s Favorite Cookie (sinfully delicious)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 box (3.4 ounces) Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix (not sugar free)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup red and green sprinkles (or any colors)
3/4 cup Christmas M&Ms (or any color of M&M)
Soft Rolled Sugar Cookies (new recipe)
3 cups (375 grams) Pillsbury BEST™ All Purpose Flour, spooned & leveled
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
1 cup (200 grams) sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Plus a can of store bought cream cheese frosting because fuck that extra work
The gingerbread and sugar cookies are for home consumption. The others are for the party or to give away. Santa’s favorite cookie is best made a day or two before Christmas itself and requires some chilling. I’m also considering these three items
Iced Brown Sugar Coffee Bars (from Gooseberry Patch) - very likely will make these
2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter, softened
2 eggs
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. instant coffee granules (I used decaffeinated)
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. chopped nuts (I used pecans)
12-oz pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Coffee Frosting:
1 c. powdered sugar
1 T. butter, softened
1 t. instant coffee granules
1 T. boiling water
Chocolate Mint Cream Cheese Buttons (simple enough but require chilling)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
4½ cups powdered sugar
½ teaspoon mint extract
several drops of green gel food color
1 cup heavy whipping cream
10 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
Luscious Chocolate Truffles (I’ve made these every year for about 5 years. They’re so freaking good. Very rich. Very easy to make if a bit time consuming)
1 bag (12 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4cup whipping cream
2 tablespoons liqueur (almond, cherry, coffee, hazelnut, Irish cream, orange, raspberry, etc.), if desired
1 tablespoon shortening
Finely chopped nuts, if desired
Finely chopped dried apricots, if desired
White chocolate baking bar, chopped, if desired
I skip the liqueur, nuts, and fruit completely and they’re still just as good. I might try this with candy melts this year instead of doing the double boiler melted chocolate topping part. Easier and time saving.
Christmas Eve Supper
Ingredients struck through are things I always keep on hand or know I have in my pantry already
Roast Beast with carrots, mashed potatoes and creamed corn
roast
beef broth
minced garlic
whole small onion
baby carrots
russet potatoes
frozen corn
Christmas Brunch
Sausage gravy over biscuits, scrambled eggs, and bacon
1lb (roll) of sausage
milk
flour
can of biscuits (or bag of frozen ones)
eggs
1 pack of bacon
This part is what’s up in the air. Usually I make a pot of soup on Christmas Eve to put in the fridge and re-heat after the Christmas party because usually S serves chili and I don’t really like chili.
If I host I don’t know if I’ll be making the soup or not. I haven’t decided exactly what the menu will be, but a lot of this stuff I keep on hand already, the extra meat can always be stored in the deep freeze for later use.
Late night Christmas supper
The Lady’s Vegetable Beef Soup - so so so freaking good!!!
I already know pretty much everything is on hand for this already. I just need to buy the beef, an additional onion, and not forget a package of whole carrots.
beef
carrots
onion
Party Entrees:
I have a ham out in the deep freeze. I can thaw/cook that, slice it, and let them do make your own ham sliders. That I WILL be doing.
buns
yellow mustard
dijon
maybe a hot mustard too?
plus ofc mayo
Also a double pot of chili (I can also make this days in advance and just re-heat)
2-3 lbs sausage
4-5 14 ounce cans of kidney beans
4-6 14 ounce cans of diced tomatoes with peppers and onions
Probly should get another packet or two of chili seasoning to be safe
Cucumber dip and olive dip - doubled each
2 cucumbers
1 medium size jar of sliced olives
4 bars of cream cheese
1 family size box of triscuts
1 party size bag of wavy Lays
Plus the dessert tray of previously baked goods. Anything else anyone may want they can bring themselves including drinks.
IF I DON’T HOST THE PARTY
I always take a dessert tray, so there’s that. But I was also considering one of these two appetizers/nibblies. I’ll know closer the date if I actually will be buying the good and making them or not. The ingredients need to be purchased close to the date of making anyway.
Grapefruit Salsa with corn chips
Country herb spread that I can’t find a recipe link for with assorted crackers
