Unraveling the fundamental principles of eutectic solidification with real-time, nanoscale imaging

During eutectic solidification, a mixture of two or more solids self-assemble, forming composite microstructures ranging from ordered layers to intricate maze-like patterns that underlie properties like tensile strength or ductility. Up to this point, researchers have not understood what conditions drive eutectics to form certain patterns, which is critical for designing reproducible next-generation eutectic composites. Capturing real-time solidification of an aluminum-nickel eutectic alloy (Al-Al3Ni) in nanometer resolution revealed that increasing the solidification velocity shifts microstructure from irregular and faceted to regular and rounded, according to a study led by University of Michigan researchers recently published in Acta Materialia.

but it's not mark scout's decision any more. maybe the gemma on the outside will make a different one.

one of the interesting things about gemma, and the thing that gives her the potential to truly change things, is that the innie/outie dichotomy doesn't really apply to her. since her severance, every part of her has been imprisoned at lumon. yes, only one version of her gets to remember a life before this, but no version of her has been free or ignorant of what lumon is. there has been no contrast between the treatment of her and her other selves; she doesn't have power over them, and their dehumanisation doesn't benefit her - in fact, it leads directly into her own dehumanisation. perhaps she'll find it easier to see them as just as real as herself.

gemma isn't an outie. she's an innie who remembers being free.

FF7 REBIRTH SPOILERS ft A THEORY OF MINE

"Emptiness"

I may be reading too deep into this but bear with me. Sephiroth doing his damned best to reinforce that Cloud is nothing, that everything he feels his fake, that he's a puppet pulled along by Sephiroth's strings with no real purpose of his own. "Your tears are empty" is a line that really stands out to me, because Sephiroth insinuates that Cloud isn't a person and has no true substance as an individual. He's a shell.

Then much later, in the dream-esque Sleeping Forest, Aerith wants to spend one of their final moments focusing on Cloud, focusing on "finding the real [him]". Then Cloud hands Holy to Aerith, and she gifts him the clear materia in return, presumably having taken up Holy before she leaves. Aerith theorised earlier in the game that Holy was probably powered by her memories and dreams, and having lost them to the Whispers, to fate, has rendered the materia useless.

Basically, Cloud aptly describes not-Holy with, "It looks empty".

I don't know, man. The thing about being given an empty thing after being told and tortured with the idea that you yourself are an empty thing is getting to me.

Part 3 is most likely going to deal with the fallout of Cloud's broken psyche and piecing him back together to "find the real [him]". I'm theorising not-Holy is only restored once Cloud has finally figured out who he is and what he wants to do.

Because materia isn't just the crystallisation of mako and the Lifestream. It's the physical representation of hopes and dreams and desires. The Black Materia was created to deliver the Gi from their unending existence. The White Materia ensures the prayers of the planet are answered.

And now not-Holy belongs to Cloud, so that whatever he finds in himself will fuel not-Holy and provide it with new purpose, maybe even allow him to finally heal after over two decades of suffering, because as Aerith said, "it's about saving the world — and you"

best way i can describe how clot operates is probability in the form of an invisible and heavy gas produced by the human body and stored similarly to blood, but also its extradimensional. kind of. the brain (in the form of directed thought) can act as a spark and conductor which allows the probability to solidify into a particular reaction. like what the hell i dont know man

New study into solute transport and solidification mechanisms in additive manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, is a rapidly growing technology with the potential to revolutionize many industries. However, AM parts can be susceptible to defects, such as porosities and cracks, which can limit their performance and reliability. Researchers at Queen Mary University of London, in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials, and University of Leicester, have developed a computational model to reveal how solute trapping occurs during the rapid solidification process in additive manufacturing (AM). The study, published in Nature Communications, provides new insights into the solute transport and solidification mechanisms in AM, which could lead to the development of new materials and processes for 3D printing.

I would fucking love to talk about that and see more art and writing inspired by Bruce going through the exact same effects of the Lazarus pit as his son, and going from blind aggresion to primal protectiveness for his kid. Nano droplets go skiing at high temperatures

Currently, many (nano)structures are grown in layers, one above the other, but their ordering on the atomic scale is generally far from perfect. Researchers from the University of Twente have aimed for a better understanding of these processes that can eventually lead to smaller, faster and overall better nanotechnology and have, in a worldwide first observation, discovered pre-solidification in droplet mixture. They recently published these exciting findings in the journal Physical Review Letters. The droplets are composed of a mixture of the metals platinum and germanium and move on a heated substrate in the direction of the heat source. But as soon as the temperature lowers, the droplets start their unique behavior. Like professional skiers, they suddenly change their direction and make a slalom. "Using a photo-emission electron microscope, we were able to film the skiing and show the whole process of solidifying," explains Arie van Houselt, corresponding author of the publication.
