“Willow House Sound Lab & Musicspace”, Walthamstow, London, UK _ Student: Pele Griffith/ BA2 _ 12.05.2025
"The design proposal kept the character of the existing public building, focusing on Willow House (869 Forest Road, London, E17 4UH), an ex-council office block now closed and scheduled for demolition / redevelopment. The new building hosts a mix of activities including creative workspaces and market facilities as well as various public spaces: food and beverage services, public gardens and / or a performance venue.
A vertical public space was generated, accessible to all visitors, day or night. It is a shared facility, encouraging the encounter of various populations living and working close to one another, yet rarely meeting. The student explored possible "maker" & flexible housing spaces / dwellings. After having identified "their makers & users", students researched the programmatic needs of the specific creative spaces."

reading tbob and they are making me INSANE what do you mean straight man with a loving wife and family spends hours making a perfect replica of his "lab partners" house in a cute little snowglobe, knits him six fingered gloves because he knows said lab partner has trouble finding things that fit him, and then this same man, thoughtful as can be, his love language is literally probably gift giving considering how often he does it with ford...... forgets to buy his wife a christmas present...? oh. my god im sick of them. and then IMMEDIATELY he runs back to ford and gives him a hug i cant deal with them actually. and then they spend HOURS talking about the past and MAKE SNOWMEN OF EACHOTHER IM SICK!!!!!!!!!! #ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. do yall think constructs like. age? idk if a secunit has uhhh survived long enough to maybe truly answer that question but maybe a comfortunit has
does the cubicle/repair process like. replace organic tissue with young tissue? match or clone the tissue around it? i’m assuming that there’s some organic tissue, like neuro tissue, they have that is vital to function and not able to be replaced without straight up killing them
#Murderbot#murderbot diaries#the Murderbot diaries#hmm part of me assume that their tissue was artificially aged or something#but actually using baby/toddler neuro tissue would make a lot of sense#bc of synaptic pruning and all that#so if you want your construct to learn as fast as possible then like#quick google search says 2-7 or 4-14 are some of the best age ranges for learning new skills#which I guess one of my headcanons is that Secunits don’t live very long lives#murderbot spent four years watching TV and an unknown amount of time before it was wiped#so it could be as young as five#it isn’t a child obviously but like#I guess I’m considering the potential benefits of giving your contructs very young and flexible neuro tissue for their organic side#actually wait that also might fix something bugging me a bit#bc I know Murderbot got flashes of ganaka pit bc of the organic neuro tissue#and I’ve always been like. why only that?#and my first sad assumption was many ganaka pit was its first ever assignment#but actually if Murderbot was in use for like 3ish years it might also make sense#bc humans don’t encode shit into our memories until around age 3ish either#so maybe ganaka pit was just the equivalent of murderbots first memory#mine is me at age 3 being jumped on my our lab/collie mix in the laundry room#followed rapidly by me at age 3 moving to america the first time and going to the basement to find like a bajillion dead millipedes#just little flashbulb memories with no real memories surrounding them at all#which sounds a bit like what Murderbot describes#hmm maybe I should make these tags their own post or something lmao
