I am currently studying Management in Tourism and Sport, which is an add-on programme to the course I originally began studying in TUS Athlone, Sports and Recreation. This course suited my interest perfectly with my main passions including sports and business. A level 6 Higher Certificate gave me a huge level of flexibility for my future to make decisions since I was unsure of fully committing to a four-year degree due to my previous disinterest in education in secondary school. I would suggest for anyone with an interest in business and a passion for sport, to look into this course as it was a perfect fit for me.

This course offered a mix of practical and in-class lessons. For example, we had swimming lessons to prepare for a lifeguarding exam at the end of the two years, in addition to various modules such as wet facility management to help us understand how to run a swimming pool. We also had a sports coaching module, where kids from local primary schools would come in and our class group would take turns coaching these kids through a number of fun sporting activities to develop our coaching and communication skills. We studied Anatomy & Physiology and Exercise & Fitness modules to prepare for our REPS personal training exam as well.

After finishing the course, it leaves you with three different forms of workplace skills for working as a lifeguard, becoming a personal trainer, or the option to continue with the student’s education.
