“Let your pain out. Just let it all out, okay? You’re allowed to cry. Even if it means taking your time. I'm not in any rush, sweetheart, and you shouldn’t rush yourself either. It’s okay to not be strong for now. Don’t force yourself to be strong. I’ve got you. I know you're struggling. I know you're tired... I know you're exhausted. Just rest, sweetheart. In my arms, I'll catch you when you fall. I won't let you hit the ground”

I saw you were wanting requests so I thought I'd stop by with an idea. A little back story for the idea, I had to have one of my molars pulled recently because it was broken and infected. So I was wondering how Sugawara would act in helping taking care of you after having a tooth pulled? Or maybe him comforting you over the anxieties of going to the dentist and having teeth pulled.
I hope this gives you ideas. No pressure to write it by any means. Feel free to ignore it if you want to. Anyways I hope you have a lovely day and remember to stay hydrated.
Hello! Thank you for the request, it took me a while because I had no idea how to approach it. There are so many ways to comfort someone during a scary situation; but at the end, I am just a fan of the mundane, making to much of a focus of things makes it harder to deal with.
I hope you enjoy this, Do let me know what you think!

A Moment of Gentle Care
In the quiet embrace of evening, you found yourself ensnared by the throbbing pain of a broken molar. Shadows of anxiety loomed large, whispering fears of the impending dentist's chair and the extraction to come. Sugawara, with his warm, steady presence, became your beacon amidst the storm. His eyes, a gentle silver, reflected understanding and concern.
As you lay on the couch, Sugawara knelt beside you, his hands tenderly cradling your own. The soft glow of the lamp cast a golden halo around him, making him appear almost ethereal. He spoke in soothing tones, each word a balm to your frayed nerves. "Hey," he murmured, his voice as comforting as a lullaby. "I know it's scary, but you're strong. You've faced so much already." His thumb traced reassuring circles on the back of your hand. "Remember when you cheered us on during our toughest matches? You were my strength. Let me be yours now."
The night wore on, with Sugawara sharing stories, his laughter a light breeze easing the tension from your shoulders. He brought you a cup of chamomile tea, its steam swirling like whispered promises of relief. As you sipped, he gently brushed a stray hair from your forehead, his touch feather-light yet grounding. His presence was a soothing balm, his every action a testament to his deep care for you.
Sugawara’s eyes sparkled with playful mischief as he recounted tales from their volleyball matches, drawing you into a world where the pain and fear seemed to melt away. "Do you remember the time Nishinoya tried to teach everyone how to do a rolling thunder? He ended up crashing into Asahi!" His laughter was infectious, a warm melody that wrapped around your heart, easing the ache within.
When the day of the extraction arrived, Sugawara was there, his presence a comforting constant. He held your hand as you entered the clinic, his grip firm and unwavering. "I’ll be right here," he promised, his eyes locking onto yours, a steadfast anchor in the sea of your anxiety. His voice was a soft murmur in your ear, weaving a cocoon of safety around you. "You're doing great," he whispered, "just breathe."
Through the procedure, you felt his support, a silent vigil beside you. When it was over, and the molar was gone, replaced by a tender ache, Sugawara was there to guide you home. He prepared a cozy nest of blankets and soft pillows, ensuring your comfort. He read to you from your favorite book, his voice a melodic rhythm that lulled you into restful slumber. His hand never left yours, a constant reminder of his unwavering presence.
In those moments of vulnerability and healing, Sugawara's care enveloped you, turning a painful experience into a testament of his unwavering love and support. The pain seemed distant, a mere echo in the presence of his comforting words and gentle touches. He stayed by your side, his warmth a steady flame against the chill of discomfort.
Sugawara’s dedication was unyielding. He monitored your needs, bringing you cool compresses for your swollen jaw and preparing soft, nourishing meals. His hands were gentle as he helped you sip water, his eyes never leaving your face. "You're doing so well," he would say, his voice full of pride and encouragement.
As you drifted in and out of sleep, you felt the weight of his care surrounding you. Sugawara’s love was a soft whisper in the darkness, a guiding star that led you through the haze of pain. His presence was a soothing melody, a symphony of support and tenderness that carried you through each moment.
In the days that followed, Sugawara's care never wavered. He was your rock, your safe harbor. The anxiety and pain that had once loomed so large now seemed small in the light of his unwavering devotion. His love was a gentle tide, washing over you, easing your fears and bringing you peace.
Through his actions, Sugawara showed you the depths of his heart. He was more than just a friend or a caretaker; he was a beacon of light in your darkest moments, a reminder that you were never alone. His love was a steady presence, a quiet strength that carried you through the storm and into the calm beyond.

WORD COUNT: 996
You weren’t unfamiliar with the current feeling you were having but it still sucked nonetheless. You’ve been having a bad day, week, month, basically it’s just been sucky. One of your preferred ways of coping was just to cry, sometimes with your sad playlist to get it flowing. Basically, let it all out with a good cry and hope it gets better. You were fine to cry alone, if anything it was better that no one had to see you like this. You could ugly cry all you wanted and not have to be perceived. But both fortunately and unfortunately your boyfriend came home a few hours early. He was supposed to be out for work until early tomorrow morning but he wanted to see you and surprise you by coming the night before, albeit late at night. He called out your name happily to locate you within your shared home. You trust him so when you heard him you didn’t feel the need to hide or pretend you weren’t crying. You called out his name to signal you were in your room and immediately he could tell something was off. Your voice was hoarse and cracked and so he quickly put down his stuff to speed walk over to you. When he opened the door and saw you crying he immediately rushed to you to envelop you in a hug. “Baby what’s wrong?” he said with a slight pout and concern in his eyes. He loved you so much and just wanted to make you smile and happy, he knew that emotions were normal and that having a good cry is good, he even does it himself sometimes heh. But he hates to see you cry, it breaks his heart a bit. He ushers you to the bed so you can both sit and hug comfortably. You tell him that it’s just been a lot and you rant a bit about your troubles. You don’t say a lot but he doesn’t need to hear the details to know how you feel and how to comfort you. “I’m so sorry darling. Listen, I love you so much and I’m sorry you have to go through this right now. I wish I could take this all away for you and maybe I can’t but I know that I can try my hardest to try and help. You’re such a sweetheart and a gentle soul and you deserve the world.” He gives you forehead kisses as he wipes your tears with a tissue he grabbed from your table. He hugs you tight as you ugly cry a little from his words. “You’re doing amazing, darling. You’re always doing your best and I hope you never forget that. You’ve told me so much about you and your past and I hope you know how strong you are.” He strokes your hair and your back as he says this. You feel his heartbeat, his body, and the vibrations of his voice against you as he speaks. “Let it out, we’ll get you a snack, and we’ll sleep, you can deal with whatever else tomorrow. For tonight please just rest, you always work so hard.” You pull back to give him a small nod. He smiles at how cute you are even while crying and gives you a long, reassuring kiss. He cups your face with his hands and wipes your tears a bit with his thumbs. You both pull back and you croak out “I’m sorry that you had to come back just to worry about me and comfort me.” “You always take such good care of me, this is the least I can do. Let me know how else I can help support you. If you need more hugs, kisses, reassurance, or anything at all, just tell me. Okay?” He says warmly, smiling at you with soft adoration in his eyes. You nod again as tears flow out because he’s treating you so sweetly. “Thank you… I love you so much and I appreciate you,” you say, half crying, as you kiss him. “No need to thank me baby. I love you so much too.” You sit with your foreheads pressed together for a bit as you finish crying. “Let’s get you a snack sweetheart,” he says while standing up and offering you his hand. You nod and smile.
He holds your hand all the way to the kitchen and it makes you giggle and your heart flutter. He makes you both cups of your favorite tea but decaf because you need to sleep! He grabs you some of your shared collection of snacks and you head back to the bed. You finish your tea together while chatting about his recent work/mission and you both feel warm from the tea and also just from each other. You put down your cups and lay down to cuddle. He turns the lights off and wraps his arms around you. He lays on his back to let you sleep on his chest with one arm around you and the free one brushing through your hair. “I love you so much. Never forget that. I hope that you also love yourself as much as I love you because you deserve it. If you can’t right now, that’s okay, we’ll do it together, slowly.” You share a few more kisses as you tell him you love him too, that you’ll definitely try, and that you hope he loves himself like that too. Your hearts are full as you drift into sleep together. Maybe the future will be nice, but even if it isn’t, it doesn’t matter. You’ll always have him and he’ll always have you. He’s given you the power to love yourself and you’ve given the same back. Life will inevitably get hard but you feel like that you might just be able to face it because you’re not alone. You both doze off into the night, smiling in each other's embrace.

NOTES (YES I KNOW THEY CAN’T TALK LOL HERE ARE MY EXPLANATIONS) NOTE 1: personal headcanon that will be in Inumaki’s own fic eventually: Inumaki learned to not funnel cursed energy into his speech for short periods of time and he uses it for when you really need to hear his voice, you can also help him suppress the cursed energy by blocking it with yours by mentally aiming it at his throat. NOTE 2: since this is for heartsteel Aphelios (because I haven’t researched regular Aphelios’s lore enough yet) it seems that he can still talk, he just chooses not to. He lost his ability to sing but I haven’t found anything that says he can’t speak or use his vocal chords. In game, he still has the ability to yell or grunt when he’s attacking or even doing his emotes. I just headcanon that he doesn’t like how his voice sounds after losing his singing voice (even though you reassure him he really does sound the same) and it also strains him to speak for too long. But, he will speak to you commonly in short bursts, or will speak when you need to hear him.

[17:45] . . .
when you look back on the past few weeks and see how your best friend has been acting, it makes you question almost everything you know about him.
sugawara kōshi wasn't a nervous guy—confident, even a bit of a charmer, you’d say. you'd playfully call him a goon because of how he is, but now, he's pulling away, leaving you puzzled. did you unintentionally cross a line during your last conversation? the uncertainty lingers as you wonder if a thoughtless comment pushed him away or if there's a deeper reason behind his sudden distance.
you see him in the hallways, and somehow it feels like there’s a mountain between the two of you. you lock eyes with him when you leave your afterschool club, and he turns away. just what had you done?
your heart ached at the sight. it sure didn't help that you were completely, irrevocably in love with him. if anything, it made things worse. so you decided to play it cool, be just like him. you'd stroll past him in the hallways without a second glance, hoping it would make your heart hurt a little less. intentionally leaving your photography club early, dodging the volleyball team dismissal, so he wouldn't catch a glimpse of your face. maybe it seemed a bit petty, but hey, he started it. you were just honoring his wishes, in your own way.
but one thought pricked your mind. cruelly enough, it never left your head.
what if he'd stumbled upon someone new? you recall seeing him in conversation with a charming girl from the class next to yours, sharing laughs during the break. what if he'd clued in on your feelings for him? was that the reason behind his avoidance too? if that held any truth, it only made a cascade of anxieties in your mind. what if, because of some trivial entanglement, you'd lost your best friend of five years?
the looming dread of losing him wrapped around your heart like a suffocating shadow. it wasn't just the prospect of a fading friendship; it was the fear that an unspoken emotion had inadvertently created a rift between you. the thought of him finding comfort in the company of another, laughing with someone new during recess, sent waves of unease crashing through you. the uncertainty gnawed at your core, leaving you in a state of perpetual restlessness.
and if he had broken your heart into multiple pieces and found someone new, you don't think you would simply stop loving him. it would be slow, and painful. you reckon you wouldn't be able to love someone new for a long, long time. forgetting him would be like a nightmare.
and yet, today remained unaltered. you exited the photography club room, observing as volleyball team members sealed the gym. sighing, you realized you were a little late this time. the first-years, particularly hinata, greeted you from a distance. you responded with a modest smile, delicately waving in return. trouble with suga was the last thing you desired, fearing your thoughts. what if he did found solace in someone else? the notion pierced your heart. deep down, you sensed that daichi, ever the astute observer, would uncover the truth about the unsettling connection between you and the serene setter.
but what you don't expect, is for all of them to walk toward you. you watched in inexplicable horror as the entire group followed the senior years' lead. hinata and kageyama, always fighting and messing around. nishinoya and asahi, talking about something with vigor and calmness at the same time. tanaka, bothering kiyoko with amorous words and her having no response to them whatsoever. yamaguchi and tsukishima, bantering about something with yachi listening in. the rest, talking to each other and watching the chaos of it all unfold.
and sugawara kōshi, in the front, looking right at you with an emotion you couldn't quite put a finger on. your throat went dry when you watched them greet you. you responded with a meek hello in return, deciding to join the group towards home.
your gaze nervously flits between kōshi and daichi up front, leading the group, as you join tsukishima and yamaguchi. the blond shoots you a knowing look with narrowed eyes, seemingly privy to your intentions. he begins to question you, but you widen your eyes in a silent plea.
he only rolls his eyes, "that won't work on me, senpai."
"i hate you," you groan, deadpan expression etched across your face.
he emits a dry chuckle, "let's be honest, i'm your favorite first-year, with an actual functioning brain," then his gaze shifts to hinata and kageyama behind you, throwing them the most disdainful side-eye he can muster, "unlike certain individuals we're acquainted with."
yamaguchi laughs, "that was uncalled for!"
yachi only shakes her head in silent reverie. you furrow your eyebrows at the blond, "you give yourself too much credit. i like yachi the most."
"oh yeah? even though i was the first to figure out you're practically in love with-"
a forceful shove to tsukishima's stomach elicits a resonant groan, catching daichi's attention as he glances back with a raised brow. you shoot him a knowing smile, smoothly carrying on with the conversation. yachi erupts into laughter, while yamaguchi discreetly covers his mouth with a hand.
"if you dare say the next part out loud, i'll make sure you won't set foot on a volleyball court for the next five months," you grit your teeth, a steely resolve in your gaze. the middle-blocker scoffs, "i'll report you to the authorities for battery and assault."
"i won't even let you get to the police station in one piece," you say, smiling innocently. he pouts softly, scoffing.
the remainder of the fifteen-minute walk passes with surprising ease. as tsukishima and yamaguchi bid farewell to the group, the middle-blocker casts you a knowing look, "here's hoping you won't turn into a nervous wreck when it's just the two of you later."
"thanks," you reply sarcastically, releasing an exasperated sigh. he chuckles as he saunters away, leaving the group now comprising only the first-years with tanaka leisurely strolling alongside. you nervously clutch the straps of your backpack, fiddling with them absentmindedly.
observing kiyoko and tanaka diverging from the group at the next turn, daichi follows suit when his home approaches. he graces you with a soft, reassuring smile. it weirdly offers a sense of solace, as though he senses the imminent solitude with suga or perhaps infers your feelings for the setter. regardless, you reciprocate the exchange, bidding your goodbyes.
and after an awkwardly silent five minutes, when your home finally comes around, you stop. he does too, looking at you with an expression you don't quite understand. his eyebrows are ever-so-slightly crunched, his lips beautifully pursed and his eyes look at you with so much longing that it almost physically hurts you to return the gaze.
"i-i, will see you tomorrow then," you say, clenching and unclenching your hand. he nods ruefully, but just as you're about to unlock your front door with your keys, you hear him say, "wait!"
you turn, eyes brimming with anticipation and worry, and you hum softly. he pulls you back to the road, and exasperatedly he says, "i need to talk to you."
"what for?" you ask, furrowing your eyebrows again. he lets out an almost annoyed sigh, "you've been ignoring me. and i don't know why that is, but seriously-"
"what do you mean, i was ignoring you?" you interrupt, almost offended, "you started it!"
"that's different! and besides, how many times have i told you to not interrupt people in the middle of their sentences?" he argues. you fume, pouting as your eyes turn glassy in a mix of emotions. you don't know what you feel. but you knew that there was definitely anger and fear involved.
"shut up!" you say, eyes threatening to spill in a fit of rage, "you were ignoring me and i thought i did something wrong!"
"what do you mean? i thought i said it was something entirely different! you did nothing, stupid!" he argues again. your lip quivers, and a few tears escape in anger, "stop yelling at me! if you just told me that you wanted space, none of this would have happened! it's your fault, idiot!"
his gaze softens, and he walks toward you. you have half the mind to take a step back, but it seems like he can read your thoughts. because he immediately clasps your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours. the touch sends chills down your spine, making you question everything you've ever known. he sighs, so softly that it makes your heart flutter. and he places his hands on your shoulders, looking directly into your eyes as he says, "you did nothing, okay? in fact, i did something. and i felt the need to avoid you because i thought it would help. news flash, looks like it made things worse."
"i thought you hated me," you sniff, eyes red as you look at him, hands still clenched at your sides. he shakes his head, "i could never hate you."
"and then the other day," you continue, voice croaky, "then i saw you with that pretty girl at recess the other day. and i thought you replaced me, and i-i don't know, i just-"
his arms wrap around you tenderly, and he almost shoves your head into his chest. you groan, and he says, "sorry."
"no, um, i just.. i don't know," you say, voice muffled, "i thought you liked her."
"and why does that bother you?" he raises an eyebrow. you narrow your eyes, playfully shoving him, "you know already, don't you? why are you making this so much harder for me, you asshole!"
"oh, i don't know," he smirks softly, "maybe i just want to hear you say it."
"well, i'm not gonna," you cross your arms over your chest, "i hate you."
"i ignored you because i realized you feel the same way as me," he laughs softly, looking away. the wind picks up, and the orange light of the drooping sun almost reflects from him. his eyes look so ethereal as he smiles tiredly at you, and you blink profusely.
you stand there, confused, and he walks up to you, brushing a part of your hair away from your face. you furrow your brows, processing the information. but he only comes closer and closer, until his lips are inches from yours. he smiles softly, "i'm gonna kiss you now. stop me if you'd like, okay?"
"h-huh?"
kōshi's lips fall on yours, he leaned in and your breaths merge in a dance of shared vulnerability. your lips met tentatively, a delicate connection that held the weight of unspoken confessions. it was a kiss born from the depths of unresolved emotions, a fusion of longing and the bittersweet taste of the uncharted.
as your lips lingered in that ephemeral union, a myriad of emotions flooded the space between them—the ache of unrequited desires, the torment of what-ifs, and the sweet agony of a connection finally acknowledged. the emotions you felt were too complicated to explain in words.
"wait, so you don't like kimi from the other class?" you ask, confused when he pulls away. sugawara laughs delicately, shaking his head, "you're so dumb. yes, i don't like someone else. i like you."
"oh," your lips part, holding his face in your palms, "alright."
"stop ignoring me now?" he asks, hopefully. you nod, a slight blush cascading from your cheeks. and he takes a step backward, "i'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"okay," you smile softly.

Tobio Kageyama's thing with hugs
Tumblr media
Part two: Take care of yourself (Sugawara & Kageyama)
Kageyama has a thing with hugs. Sure, he's touch starved enough to appreciate any form of physical affection- but there's something about hugs that does things to his chest. Things he'd never say out loud. Things that, eventually, he says anyway.
(aka. kageyama has a thing for hugs. he & the other karazuno boys realize this, after a few particular situations where each of the members hugs kageyama for the first time. based on this post)
Warnings: none! kageyama mentions feeling a bit insecure, but it's all very soft aside from that!
Practice had been pretty chill, that day. After a sudden spur of relentless improvement in each of the players' new moves, due to their even more exhaustive training, it was a bit weird to have a practice day when things just felt... normal.
Now, Sugawara was just as excited as everyone else for the preliminar matches, and just as motivated to get better- if not more. There was still that little sting of insecurity inside his chest, knowing most of the first years were titular players now, while he was stuck at the bench. Then again, he tried to push himself to use that as motivation to keep practicing, to keep improving, and to make the most out of whatever time he got to play at any matches.
It was nice, however, to have a more relaxed practice sometimes. He knows better than anyone how easy it is for his teammates (and him, too, sometimes) to get caught up in the deep desire to keep getting better, to keep winning- so much that they'd forget that practicing moves they were already good at was also part of training, and that taking care of themselves was also crucial if they wanted to do their best at every match.
Not everyone was as content as him with the unusually calm practice, though. At least Kageyama didn't seem to be.
They had both been setting for the strikers to practice their regular attacks, for a bit over 10 minutes now. Suga felt nice- everyone had a relaxed smile on their faces, and most of the players seemed happy enough with each of their strikes. They took their time between each attack, which meant they didn't get quite as tired as they did some other days. He felt good seeing the smile on Azumane's face, specially. He felt good knowing he could get that smile on his face with his sets, even if they weren't as perfect as Kageyama's.
At some point, out of habit, Suga glanced at the other setter. His dark brows were scrunched together in a frown that was just a bit deeper than his usual serious resting face, eyes focused on the ball as he continued setting- yet he didn't seem like he was actually looking at it. His lips were tightly pressed together. He kept tapping his foot on the floor in an anxious manner, whenever he was waiting for another player to set for. His restless thoughts were so loud and fast, Suga could almost feel them.
— Hey, Kageyama! — he exclaimed, as he continued to set for the other players — why the frown?
The black haired boy had briefly glared at him, his frown deepening as he pressed his lips tightly together. Suga gave him a nervous smile.
— Nothing. Focus on practicing.
Ouch.
He'd never been the best at aproaching Kageyama- none of them were, really. The boy was closed off and painfully reserved, yet the playful tone he had whenever he scolded someone, his teasing and sarcastic jokes let Suga know he was probably desperate to get closer to them. Desperate to let someone in- to trust them. Perhaps he just didn't know how to go about it-
Perhaps he didn't know how to trust, at all.
Practice went by smoothly, despite the younger setter's mood being slightly off. Ukai dismissed them with a small smile on his face, and made note to mention how proud he was of their recent drastic improvement, as well as remind them to take care of themselves and rest. Sugawara discreetly glanced at Kageyama, and found he still had that slightly uncomfortable look on his face.
The grayhaired boy had caught himself thinking about that quite a few times, naturally. He cared about his team, and about his teammates- not only as players, but as friends and people. That applied to Kageyama as well, even if they weren't quite as close. Which meant he had noticed his anxious attitude that day, and had immediately decided to try and do something about it. He just had to figure out what.
— Alright, it's Suga's turn to close up today — Daichi announced, as soon as the professor and coach had left the gym
Suga nodded, smiling at their team captain. The other players hurried in and out of the changing rooms, seemingly eager to go home for a good night of rest.
Everyone except Hinata and Kageyama, of course.
— I wish I could stay and practice a bit more, too! — Hinata whined and pouted, as he made his way to the door — Family's coming over tonight, though
— Whatever, it's fine, — he thought he almost saw a pout threatening to form in Kageyama's lips as well, as he replied to Hinata— I'm probably not gonna stay too much longer, either
Suga watched the two wave goodbye to each other, while he also said goodbye to the rest of the team.
After that, he made his way to the storage room and gave a quick glance around, to make sure everything seemed to be put away correctly. He locked up the door to the storage room and grabbed his bag from the bench next to the court, where he had left it during practice. He let out a yawn, stretching his arms and rolling his wrists softly while he entered the changing room. It was quiet, as expected.
He splashed water on his face and looked at himself in the mirror for a moment. He looked at his own resting expression- a small, gentle smile on his lips, his eyes as kind as always. He wondered- sure, he knew how to speak to people in a way that helped them feel comfortable, secure. Cared for. He had a hard time when it came to Kageyama, though- the boy didn't seem to appreciate his caring attitude as much as others. It hurted him a bit, to be honest. But he was still determined to figure out a way to help his teammate out- he just had to come up with a different way to approach the situation.
He let out a small sigh, trying not to let the frustration get to him. He ran a hand through his gray hair as he walked towards the lockers, and was surprised by the sight of a black haired boy sitting on the bench, tying his shoes.
— Oh, hey! — he waved and gave him a small smile — Didn't know you were still here
Kageyama was looking down at his own feet, but as soon as the other spoke, his head shot up so quickly he was almost scared he'd get dizzy from the sudden movement.
— Suga— he muttered, eyes wide and mouth slightly open
Sugawara sat down next to him and felt the other boy's eyes follow him. Even he could feel Kageyama's intense and nerve-wrecking stare on him, Suga made sure to keep a soft smile on his face.
— How are you doing? I noticed you were a bit tense at practice today
Kageyama looked back down at his own feet. He had finished tying up his shoes, it seemed. He placed his hands on one of his knees to rest his chin on them and frowned slightly, pressing his lips together. This time, though, his frown was different- he seemed to be contemplating something. Suga stayed silent, and let him take a few seconds to answer.
— Sorry. Didn't mean to be rude earlier — Kageyama's voice was low, eyes still focused on his own shoes.
— It's fine! I get it. I just wanted to make sure you're okay- but I know it can get a bit annoying sometimes
Suga scratched the back of his neck apologetically and redirected his focus to the floor. From the corner of his eyes, he could see the younger boy biting his bottom lip.
— No, it's not annoying — he admitted — I just... I don't know, I was just in a bad mood today. Sorry
— Yeah, I figured so
— I just... — he stressed his bottom lip, and made a pause before continuing — I- I don't know. It just felt wrong to have such a slow practice day. I feel like I'm wasting time
Suga looked up at him again, but Kageyama's eyes remained firm on his own feet. His brows were scrunched together in concentration, and his lips were slightly tilted downwards in a discontented expression. Suga raised a brow, questioning.
— We still practiced a lot though. It's not wasted time
— I know, — Kageyama sighed — I don't mean you guys. I just...
His blue eyes raised up to Suga for a brief moment, for the first time since the conversation had started, but he quickly looked away. His expression softened into something that, Suga guesses, seemed somewhat like sadness.
Kageyama didn't say anything else for a few minutes.
The silence between them wasn't particularly tense, but it felt heavy. Sugawara looked at the lockers, seeing each of them decorated with stickers and other things that, although it might not be obvious at first sight, reflected a bit of each of his teammates' personalities. His own locker had a few stickers- one of them was a flower that Nishinoya had drawn for him. Another one a cup of coffee, with steam coming out of it.
Kageyama's locker door was plain, except for a sticker Hinata had randomly given him one day, of a blue, white and yellow volleyball.
He looked back at the boy sitting infront of him.
At the end of the day, Suga was fairly good at reading his friends- at taking care of them, and knowing what they needed. Even if he didn't always fully understand what was going through their heads, he somehow managed to figure out what they needed to hear.
So why would Kageyama be an exception?
— You know, — he began speaking in a soft voice, almost hesitantly — you need to rest too, just like everyone else
— I know. I sleep well and I take breaks and all that stuff.
— Yeah, but I don't mean just that — Suga turned around slightly, so that he was facing the other setter — You do realize you don't need to be constantly making big improvements, right?
Kageyama frowned.
— What do you mean?
— Like, it's physically impossible for you to unlock a new move every single practice, or to get drastically better every time you play — he gesticulated with his hand, casually — and frankly, you don't need to, either.
Kageyama looked at him, deep blue eyes suddenly so soft, Sugawara couldn't help but feel fondness for the boy.
— You're a great player, and you're really valuable to the team. Relaxing a bit in practice every now and then won't change that.
If he saw Kageyama's eyes water up and his lower lip tremble, well- no one really had to know.
— Thank you.
Suga's lips turned upwards in a warm smile, and he placed a reassuring hand on his teammate's shoulder.
— Of course. We really appreciate you, aight'? Try to relax a bit. You'll be just fine, and we all need to rest a bit right now anyways.
Kageyama nodded and looked at the floor.
Suga was fairly good at reading his friends, at comforting them and knowing what they needed to hear. At taking care of them. And right now, looking at that tall, genius player sitting down infront of him, shoulders heavy and eyes soft in something that looked like insecurity, like racing anxious thoughts inside his head- Sugawara thought Kageyama needed a hug.
He was fairly good at reading his friends. So why would Kageyama be an exception?
He got slightly closer to the boy, his movements thoughtfully slow as he dared to wrap his arms around Kageyama's body. He was careful, as if any sudden movement could scare him away. He felt Kageyama's muscles tense up, but he simply rested his cheek on the younger's head. Everyone knew Kageyama had no trouble pushing anyone away if they got too comfortable in his personal space for his liking, after all. If he didn't like it, he'd certainly push Suga away without doubting it for a second.
Instead, he just melted in his arms.
Suga doesn't think he's ever seen him like that- eyes fluttered shut, a relaxed expression on his face. Kageyama let out a sigh that almost sounded relieved. Like he had been burning for the last few months, and Suga's body had suddenly put down the painful fire the second he pressed it against him in a hug. He dared rub gentle circles on the boy's back, tracing his shoulders and softly petting his hair.
And Kageyama just melted.
He melted, and let himself stay there- enveloped in the warmth of the hug for however long it took before one of them remembered they needed to get home. Suga didn't keep track of time; he didn't need to.
He would've let Kageyama stay like that, content and safe in his arms, for as long as he needed.
AAAAA second chapter!!! im actually kinda surprised/proud of myself for writting another part for this story lol. i've been having trouble finishing anything i start writting, and tbh i hadn't rlly written much for like two years? so when i finished the first part i was like Oh Nice !! but i assumed it would take me a few weeks to write smth else. but yeah, i'm happy i could finish this one too lol. it's a bit longer than expected, but i kinda like it and i hope yall like it too!! stay safe 💜

"are you okay? do you need a hug?" suga asked gently, holding his arms open for you.
"no, 'm fine," you mumbled, wiping your face with your sleeve, your lies obvious by the tears on your face.
suga stood and waited. he didn't want to force his care onto you, he wanted you coming to him to be your choice. he would wait. he would take the lies. he didn't mind standing there awkwardly with his arms open until you acknowledged your own vulnerability.
after a few moments, you whispered "i'm not okay" before you practically threw yourself into the former setter's arms, plastering yourself to him like a koala. and he would hold you, for as long as you needed

Can you stop? - Sugawara
He really didn’t mean to hurt you.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Y/N had always admired Sugawara. His kindness, dedication, and natural charm were qualities that stood out to her, and she couldn't help but express her admiration through frequent compliments. It was her way of showing appreciation and support for her boyfriend. However, one day, everything changed.
During a break between practice sessions, Y/N approached Sugawara with a bright smile, ready to shower him with another round of praise. She told him how incredible he looked during practice, how his sets were always perfect, and how his leadership inspired the team. But instead of the usual warm response, Sugawara's face darkened.
"Y/N, could you just stop?" he said abruptly, his tone sharp and unexpected. "It's getting really annoying. I don't need you to keep complimenting me all the time."
Y/N felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. Her smile faltered, and her eyes widened in shock. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out. Sugawara's expression softened slightly as he realized the impact of his words, but he didn't apologize. Instead, he turned away and rejoined his teammates.
Feeling a lump form in her throat, Y/N quickly gathered her things and left the gym, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill. She couldn't understand why Sugawara had reacted that way. Had she been overbearing? Annoying? Her mind raced with doubts and insecurities.
In the days that followed, Y/N found it difficult to face Sugawara. She started avoiding him, skipping practice sessions and making excuses to stay away from the places he frequented. When they did cross paths, she kept her interactions short and distant. The warmth and joy that once filled their relationship seemed to have vanished.
Sugawara noticed the change in Y/N's behavior. At first, he thought she might just need some space, but as days turned into weeks, he realized the gravity of his mistake. He missed her presence, her encouragement, and the way she always made him feel valued. His words had been harsh, and now he regretted them deeply.
One evening, after practice, Sugawara decided it was time to make things right. He found Y/N sitting alone in the park, her usual vibrant energy replaced by a quiet sadness. Taking a deep breath, he approached her and sat down beside her.
"Y/N," he began softly, "I owe you an apology. What I said to you was hurtful and unfair. I was feeling overwhelmed, and I took it out on you. You didn't deserve that."
Y/N looked up at him, her eyes reflecting the pain she had been carrying. "Sugawara, I was just trying to support you. I never meant to annoy you."
"I know," he said, his voice filled with regret. "Your compliments meant a lot to me, more than I realized at the time. I took them for granted, and I shouldn't have. I miss you, and I want to make things right between us."
Tears welled up in Y/N's eyes, but this time they were tears of relief. She had missed him too, despite the hurt. "I miss you too," she admitted softly.
Sugawara reached out and gently took her hand. "Can we start over?" he asked. "I promise to appreciate you and your support, and to communicate better next time I feel overwhelmed."
Y/N nodded, a small smile forming on her lips. "I'd like that," she said.
As they sat together in the park, holding hands and sharing a quiet moment, both Sugawara and Y/N knew that their relationship would be stronger for it. They had faced a challenge and come out on the other side with a deeper understanding and appreciation for each other.

Soft murmurs woke you from your restless sleep. After their last conversation, it had obviously been hard for you to get any good rest. The car rolled to a stop inside a motel car park, bathing you and its other occupants in the red sign light.
“I went in but they only have one room so the four of us will have to share”
The disappointment in Daichi’s tone was palpable, like an arrow through your heart. You guys were best friends, you had obviously shared rooms and beds before. Why would it matter now? Ever since you had known them you had been comfortable sharing beds etc, even after they started dating. The fact it was different now obviously made you think back to the conversation you overheard. Maybe the person they were adding didn’t like you or they thought it would be inappropriate considering they were courting another person.
You felt Asahi shift beside you and slammed your eyes shut once again.
There was no way you were letting them know you were awake. If you had to face them before you fully calmed down, there was no question on if you would end up crying. Also you deeply did not want to give Asahi his hoodie back. There was a lingering feeling in your mind that you would never have an opportunity to steal it again. A sharp twinge of panic rocketed through your stomach at the thought. Of course, there was a chance their new s/o wouldn’t mind, but not many people were comfortable with their partner being that close to someone else.
“It’s okay” Asahi soothed, “i’ll carry them”
Yeah, like you were going to let that happen. If any one of the three men touched you right now you were sure to burst into tears. Deciding that was the best time to break your facade, you pretended to stir. You hoped the red lights didn’t reflect on the glimmer of tears in your eyes. The cold, wet gravel seeped through the mesh of your shoes as the boys started leading you towards the room. No noise was made apart from the crunches under your feet - small victories, you mused to yourself. You adjusted your bags in your hand so you could grab the room key from Daichi’s hand. It was bronze in colour with a red plastic tag, slightly faded but you were able to make out the number 32 on the front. Locating the room, you were quick to pull away from the rest of the fatigued group, finding it easy to speed away from the sleep-addled men under the guise of dinding some comfort from the rain. Behind you, Daichi held his hand to his chest as if your hasty touch had scalded him. You chewed on your lip slightly, feeling bad at the upset you might have caused. Only hoping he would take it as you being tired, you shifted your gaze to the room door and marched on.
-
The room itself was painted a gaudy yellow, with a brown patterned carpet that had obviously been unchanged since the motel itself was built. There was a large bed in the middle of the room, big enough for the four of you easily, but your eyes were driven to the sofa to the side of it. It was a loud red, sticking out sorely from the rest of the room. The harsh red was an assault on your retinas. How fitting, you thought to yourself. Scoffing, you laid your bags on the couch, pulling out some shorts and one of Koushi’s t-shirts to sleep in - rushing into the bathroom to change as soon as the other men walked in.
Thinking you had escaped, you sighed and leant against the door. Only to hear the voices of the three men loud and clear. The thought of escaping out of the tiny bathroom window became suddenly very tempting.
“I wonder what’s wrong with y/n” Koushi asked, seemingly dismissive.
“I’m sure we’ll find out soon, they don’t hide anything from us”
You scoffed again under your breath, if only they knew. Still, you couldn;t fault Daichi for comforting his partner.
“Wait look what I took the other day Suga, it’ll cheer you up”
You heard Azumane pull out his phone and then a resounding ‘aww’ from the grey haired man.
“I wish we could ask them to join us sooner but we have to wait till we’re back huh?” Suga lamented, “wish this trip could be over already”
Ouch, that one hurt.
He was obviously showing a photo of this mystery person. You really didn’t understand why they hadn’t told you yet. It wasn’t like they could predict your horrible reaction, or that they even knew about your feelings. It made the doubtful pit in your stomach grow and twist, pulling you into a nauseous state. If they really wanted this to be over so soon after it began, there was really no point in you staying. They were obviously preoccupied with this other person - it was like you were never even there to begin with.
A knock on the bathroom door made you jolt. Reluctantly, you peered at yourself in the dirty mirror and cringed at the sight. There were tear tracks dried onto your skin and your eyes were rimmed with an irritated colour. The sadness couldn’t be more obvious. Hastily, you rinsed your face in the sink, patting it down with your t-shirt. Taking a moment to breath and calm yourself, you turned the door knob.
Daichi’s concerned face met you on the other side. Well, there goes being inconspicuous. You shot him what you hoped was a reassuring grin and pushed past his shoulder slightly. It was obvious he wanted to say something to you, but he stayed silent. They all watched you hastily grab a blanket off of the end of the bed and reach for the door. Not looking back you called behind you.
“I’ll be right back i just have to, uh, make a call so don’t wait up”
Well done, very convincing, you mused as you shut the door behind you.
The gravel once again let the damp seep into you. Cold air prickled the skin on your legs while you walked towards your destination. Like all good motels, there was a pool a little bit away from your room, cold and full of rain water from the earlier weather, but it was a welcomed solace from the suffocating presence of the room. It was dimly lit but had no cover, so you assumed nobody would yell at you for using it. The water was surprisingly clear and cold from the earlier rain. Perfect for you to dangle your legs in while you waited there. Rain always calmed you when your thoughts were racing and you assumed the pool would work the same way. Relationships and people might change to you but water, the feeling of it moving over your skin, that would always be the same.
You thought back to one of your earliest memories with all three of the boys, after you had come to the realisation you were hopelessly in love with all three. It was during first year, towards the end of the summer months, when the leaves had begun to tinge into soft yellows and deep reds. The rain had started pouring that day unexpectedly, breaking through the muggy weather that the last three months had left behind. The icy cold raindrops were a welcome feeling on your heated skin. All three of you had ran from volleyball practice to the courtyard outside, spreading your arms towards the sky like uniform-donned angels - thanking the sky for it’s gift. Of course, you had all got soaked but you smiled even after you had all separated to walk home.
Simpler times, you thought to yourself sarcastically. The feelings had been so new and exciting at the time, hardly the depressing lingering in the back of your mind as it had been recently. There had come a time in school, you’re not sure when, where you had sort of accepted it would never happen and promptly gave up. Whether this was before or after the three announced their relationship, you had forgotten. Not that it mattered either way.
Reflections in the water rippled when you dipped your legs into the surface. You stared as your reflection was distorted, mussed about in the small waves. The water settled once again and you were left with the cold, hard truth of the image you had become. Your rimmed eyes and tear tracks seemed to only accentuate the already exhausted look on your face. It was as if you hadn’t slept in weeks. Suga liked describing the sparkle in your eyes when you got excited about something - apparently it reminded him of a snowglobe or something, whatever he had said. You sighed, meeting your own eyes in the water. They were empty of any sparkle.
You swished your legs around the water again, a weight lifting off your shoulders as your face was contorted once again by the waves.
A ringtone rang out from next to you and you scrambled to shut it off. Bringing the phone up to your ear, you were met with the soothing (if not minorly monotone) voice of your club manager and best friend.
“Hello?” you sniffed into the receiver.
Luckily for you, Kiyoko had escaped your seemingly never ending list of crushes. She had been a fast friend when you had met and, luckily for her, she was currently driving somewhere around the Japanese countryside with her girlfriend.
The dark-haired girl was also one of the only people in the world that knew your secret. Which was most likely the reason for her phoning.
“How are you holding up y/n?”
You scoffed.
“As good as i can i suppose” you joked, shoulders tensing at the lack of response.
“Okay, i’m doing horribly, i swear they’re doing it on purpose”
She hummed, never one for many words.
“Did you know they wanted to add another person to their relationship? They won’t talk about it when they think i’m awake but i caught them in the car. They seem so,  so excited and i hate that i can’t just be happy for them”
Gnawing on your lip, you waited for a response.
“Do you need  us to come pick you up?” she questioned, almost hesitantly.
You stopped and thought about it. Was it the best idea for you to stay? There was a feeling poking at the back of your brain that this trip would go horribly wrong but you weren’t too sure it would be the best idea to leave either. There was no real excuse you could give the boys and you had been planning this for a while. Chewing on your thumbnail, you made a choice.
“I don’t think you need to get me” you began, “i’ll see how it goes but, uh, be on standby i guess”
A melodic hum rang from down the phone. You weren’t sure what it’s inflection was.
The call ended quite quickly after that. It was expected, the hour was late and Kiyoko definitely had better things to do than audibly observing her friend having a breakdown. It would be a lie to say you didn’t sound as pathetic as you looked. The rain had started falling again towards the end of your conversation so you had stuffed your phone in your pocket and hugged the worn blanket tighter around your bare arms.
You had failed to see a shock of cropped, brunette hair disappearing behind your room door.
The cold rain drizzled down your scalp and down your neck, leaving goosebumps in it’s wake. The rain seemed to peel some of the pressure of of your shoulders. It gave you something to focus on so that you didn’t have to think so hard for a while. Quieting the thoughts spinning round your head like whirlpools. Closing your eyes, you laid back on the wet tile and imagined spinning your hands around in the frigid water, creating your own whirlpools. Ones so powerful you could jump right in and they would suck you away from the motel - to wherever you wanted to go. Maybe you could stay underwater for a while, away from everyone. Kiyoko was a strong swimmer, she could bring you food and company. Maybe you could make some less complicated friends with the fish and little crabs that lived on the seafloor.
When you peeled open your wet eyelids, your reality confronted you like a slap to the face. The motel was still the motel, and the pool's surface remained unchanged.
“y/n!” yelled a voice from behind you.
Rolling your eyes, you peered up from between your lashes. Suga had run out of the room, holding one of his partners' jackets above him in a mockery of a shelter from the rain. You would think he would have the sensibility to choose a waterproof one.
His shoulders were drawn close to his body under his knitted cardigan, silvery brows drawn close to each other. There wasn’t much exchanged between the two of you but the worry on his features was hard to miss. You suppose you did look somewhat like a corpse at the time. Even worse - a cold, damp one. Even now, you looked back up towards the sky and snorted at your own silliness, as if they were even thinking about that.
-
Asahi looked at the exchange from the winder, choosing to accompany his boyfriend outside when he saw your body twist and return to its previous position. Being one of the more sensibly dressed of your group - he grabbed a parka and headed out next to the shorter man, perching his chin on Suga’s shoulder.
“I wish i knew what was going on in their head sometimes” Asahi commented from next to Koushi’s ear.
His voice was soft enough and they were far enough away that you couldn’t hear them. In all fairness, without facing them anyone would have been completely unaware that they were talking. They both observed your sodden state, noticing your eyelids fluttering closed as you slipped off to sleep.
“I would love to know how on earth they can sleep in this weather” Koushi commented dryly, “they’re going to catch their death because of the damn rain one of these days”
The brunette chuckled, wrapping his arms around his lover’s waist. Asahi had a comforting effect on almost anyone that truly knew him. A real gentle giant, his presence had the ability to both command attention and become a bean of solace for anyone that needed it. It was hard not to feel comfortable around Asahi Azumane. Something his boyfriend could attest to enthusiastically as his shoulders finally withdrew from next to his ears.
“They seemed happier out here in the rain than they have on the entire trip so far”
If he hadn’t been right next to his jaw, there is no way the taller man would’ve heard Koushi’s bitter muttering. And some part of him wished he didn’t, because then he wouldn't have to face the fact that his statement was entirely true. Even now, as you drifted off into sleep, the smile that had been missing the entire trip had somewhat returned to your face. It was refreshing to see but the two men only wished they had been the cause, not a weather pattern. The lines of your body were less harsh, less bunched up into each other. Your limbs hung loose on the tiles and the water instead of coiling and wrapping around each other like fishing line - the desperate attempt to make yourself smaller had not gone unnoticed by your companions.
Asahi bit his lip.
“We should get them inside” came the sleep-addled voice of their third and final partner.
Daichi was dressed the least sensibly of all of them, only wearing a pair of chequered pyjama pants. Of course, as he was leaning in the doorway and not actually outside, there was no need for much else. A flower of guilt had bloomed in the pit of his stomach at overhearing the other two’s conversation. Your behavior had not gone unnoticed by him, but he had initially assumed you were just tired. It was overtly obvious to him now that something was very wrong.
The three men trudged the small distance to your snoozing figure, not caring much if they got soaked. Daichi sat you up next to the pool as the other two worked on drying your chlorine-coated legs. The coarse fabric of the towels did little to disturb your slumber, only causing your knees to draw up to your chest and a small hum to escape your parted lips. The gaze of the shorter brunette man would probably have burnt holes in your skin had you been awake at the time. However, the contentment of your slumber went undisturbed and you turned your face into his bare chest, snuggling into it.

Every time I tie my hair super tight or something, i remember that scene from when Shimizu told Asahi that it's not good for his hair and that he'll go bald if ties them so tightly (or something along similar lines)
And then Asahi wears a hairband
So I loosen my ponytail a bit, smile about having remembered that scene, and how I feel towards Haikyuu and my lovely characters, and it feels good
....
Also I went and saw the Haikyuu movie, FINALLY.
And it was good, Loved it. Except the part where there were these two guys sitting in front of me and throughout the movie they kept blabbering away, very. Very. Loudly. Imagine I'm looking at Kenma's pov and these guys just...kept talking away explaining what's going on to each other and cracking jokes at that😭😭😭. I honestly felt like kicking their seats at least three times out of frustrations but didn't.
Back here
Loved the movie, but it just didn't feel enough. Maybe it's because we've been watching it in a series format and it's so well detailed and prolonged in that format. The movie felt short and I crave for moreeee. And i don't know when the next movie will come by😭.
The movie was well executed, but to me, my major complaint is just that, it wasn't enough. Because you see, We've been waiting for this match, For a long long time. And for it to end away so soon, felt like I missed some things.
But it's okay, i still loved it.
Kenma's personality really switched up in this one, hehe. I WANNA WATCH IT AGAIN, I miss them. Tsukki and Kurou bickering away politely, their chants, Bokuto and Aakashi in the background, Hinata and Kenma, Kageyama cutting off Hinata yet again while greeting Kenma, Daichi and Kurou, Suga san being the amazing hype man he is, Coach Ukai in the hospital going in for a handshake like he could feel that he's in the field, and so much moreeeee.
No spoilers from manga please.
Looking forward to the next launch.
I just really love them all. Truly. My absolute warmth.
Haikyuu isn't just a sports anime, it's literally so much more. And for me, it'll always be something that pulled me out of dark times, and I'm always going to be thankful for that. For the love and support these amazing characters bring me from their own journey, from their own ways. Thankyou. You have a place in my heart, a home.
So yesss, watch Haikyuu guys. And just, trust me, you'll love it.
