How to Make Money Online Using Your Cooking Skills
Mullethead and Hambone nursed their lattes at “Java Junction,” the local coffee bar buzzing with the morning crowd. Steam curled upward from their mugs, mirroring the brainstorming session brewing within. Hambone: “So, Mullethead, we’re both pretty darn good cooks, right?” Mullethead: “Best in Bexar County, don’t you think? Millie swears my brisket can convert a vegetarian.” Hambone: “True,…

this isnt the point of your post, but I do know of a woolen mill in Stafford, CT called American Woolen. Not sure if they sell to individuals/what their prices are like, but they might be worth checking out
that is very cool!
unfortunately all they seem to sell to individuals is blazers and heavyweight fuzzy throws- and all in muted colors (and black blazers, but I don't wear blazers). so unless I can find a place that sells their wool as fabric, that's not much help to me; and even if I do, it lookslike all I'd be buying from them is a small amount of black coating to mend my winter coat. they don't make much else that I'd use, having little need for Muted Navy Blanket Wool
if they ever start producing wool crepe or gauze in a wider color range, though, and selling it- I'll be first in line!

Notes on Preservation Pantry by Sarah Marshall
Tumblr media
So I'm gonna admit this book wasn't what I expected, but that's because I was rushing to pick something so I could check out before the library closed. That made it a little hard to accept on it's own terms, but I've come around to finding it charming.
Okay, so a lot of people I know are pretty worried about grocery prices. Doing your own food preservation is a way to stretch your pennies or at least raise the quality of what your pennies can do. I was hoping for something that would be a little more in depth about more techniques, but.. yeah, anyway. That's on me for being in so much hurry that I didn't even read the subtitle.
So the biggest downside to the book is that the recipes really highlight what's available at North Pacific farmer's markets. If you live in a different area, you might never see some of this stuff, or it might be horrifyingly expensive. Or maybe you'll just take a road trip so you can go on a canning spree vacation. That's a thing normal people do, right?
The book is sectioned by fruit or veggie. For each main ingredient, there are two canning recipes, one other recipe that can be stored, and then a recipe that uses on of the 3 previous recipes to make a dish. I LOVE that. One of the biggest problems with canning recipes is figuring out what to do with the results beyond eating out of the jar with a spoon. I'm definitely interested in the onion jam that can be turned into french onion soup.
I also really liked the idea of creating a canning club with my friends. There's a whole section on what the idea is and how to run one. I know a lot of food nerds, so... yeah. Sharing is caring and all that.

Honestly what this election has taught me is that I can’t stop the genocide in Gaza. I can’t stop the famine. I couldn’t stop like 50% of America for voting for Trump.
But I can help keep the unhoused and food insecure people in our community from going hungry.
I can give them warm clothes.
I can join groups pushing for better resources for those communities in my town.
I can support the LGBTQ community in my very very red state by going to community meetings, providing emotional support to those who are suffering worse than I am, and donate to advocacy groups fighting to keep what few rights we do have.
And yeah I can donate to Doctors Without Borders and other aid groups and focus on the bigger picture of the genocide in Gaza, I don’t have to completely abandon that cause but I can’t exactly board a flight to Israel and kick Bibi in the nads for what he’s doing. I mean I could theoretically but I don’t think that’d change much (this was a joke please understand this was a joke I like to travel and I don’t want to end up on a list).
Don’t take this as: “so just forget and ignore about everything else going on in the world” - feel like I need to say this because this is the “piss on the poor” website.
We exist in the larger world but we live our every day lives in our local communities. Those places are where we see shit that impacts our day to day. And we need to survive our day to day in order to change the larger world.
Love you all. Don’t give up. ❤️

The 4 Big Meat Packers In America Are Making A Move To Bankrupt Small Farms In America Starting In August
“This is a way that they're gonna be trying to force us out”
“The big 4 packers are killing the American cattle industry right now. Projected by August, each cattle rancher that is selling their animal is gonna be making $30 less per 100 pounds on that market ready animal.
- The American cattle rancher makes about 30% of every dollar earned on that animal - With this gonna be set in place, this is gonna take us down into the twenties.
This is gonna be a real scary place for the American cattle rancher. ‌ ‌If they can't make a profit or make a living off of what they're selling, their ranches are gonna be put up for sale.
This is a way that they're gonna be trying to force us out.
- And not only that, the corrupt thing is they're gonna be marking everything up $30 to every 100 pounds that they're making in return.
So with that being said, guys, we need to get back to buying local, supporting our local people. And as always, buy American and buy local.”

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time and effort to put together the long climate/environment post, especially the online resources. I've wanted to replace the neglected/dead non-native plants at my place with native plants for months, but didn't know where to start my search for species except to walk around my local nature preserve trying to find something that isn't invasive lol. I'll be able to start (re)introducing native plants this month because of you :-)
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad the post has been helpful and inspiring. If you'd like more directed guidance on native plants, I can probably point you in the right direction if you can give me a general area to work with (state would suffice!). In general, go for keystone species- those that are common in your area and support many kinds of insects- or pollinator favorites, or host plants for rare/imperiled butterflies/bees/moths.

I got to playtest the game I contributed artwork for yesterday!!
We Are Your Neighbors is a teamwork game in the style of MicroMacro which invites players to follow a community member on their journey with a social issue, from food scarcity and housing to health care. It was designed to facilitate discussion of:
Issues a diverse community faces
Available resources
Shortcomings and possible solutions
Pathways to advocacy
Empathetic responses to a variety of situations
Players' own stories, in a safe space that fosters compassion
Recognizing and breaking down prejudice, unconscious bias, or stigmatization
The rules are simple and fast to learn, the board was fun to search, and overall the thought-provoking route we played (1 of 4 available) took about half an hour.
In addition to helping develop the storyline of the game itself, local teens from Waypoint created a bundle of companion zines. Proceeds go to their creators and help them stabilize their living situation!
Copies aren't officially in the online store yet, but if you message them directly they'll certainly be able to help!
