Ancient Gods and their Dragons

Ancient Elven Gods - the Evanuris

Sylaise, the Hearthkeeper, is the goddess of all the domestic arts and the sister of Andruil the Huntress. Sylaise gave the elves fire, and taught them how to weave rope and thread, and to use herbs for magic for healing purposes. In narrative, she is the hearth you leave and return to. The comfort that bookends a journey where everything, especially self, has become unfamiliar.

June, God of the Craft, is the elven Master of Crafts. He is variously described either as a brother to Andruil and Sylaise or as Sylaise’s husband. He taught the elves to make bows, arrows, and knives to hunt Andruil’s gifts. In narrative, he is the means, and the tools by which needs are met or obstacles conquered. His will hides in the actions of others.

Andruil, Goddess of the Hunt, is known also as “blood and force”, “great hunter”, and “The Lady of Fortune”. In narrative, she is purpose. She grants strength of clarity but blindness to trickery. Blood and force, spare us the moment we become your prey. She became blighted upon wearing armor she crafted from darkspawn husks at the behest of her lover, Ghilan’nain.

Ghilan’nain, Mother of the Halla, is also the Goddess of navigation. In narrative, she is the price and acceptance of purpose, and the becoming that allows no return. Betrayal and devotion become equals to her. She is also the Goddess of Monsters.

Elgar’nan, God of Vengeance, is also known as the All-Father, the Eldest of the Sun, He Who Overthrew His Father, The Father of Retribution- represents fatherhood and vengeance and leads the pantheon with the goddess Mythal. In narrative, he represents promise before acceptance. The power before the price. The moment of choice that precedes justice or vengeance, rise or fall.

Falon'Din, Friend of the Dead, the Guide, is the elven God of Death and Fortune who guides the dead to the Beyond. He and his twin brother, Dirthamen, are the eldest children of Elgar'nan the All-Father and Mythal the Protector. In narrative, he's the unfamiliar that precedes change. The willing sleep that calms or changes desire. Endings were different in the time of immortals.

Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets, is the twin brother of Falon'Din and is the elven god of secrets and knowledge, and master of the ravens Fear and Deceit. Dirthamen gave to the elves the gift of knowledge and taught them loyalty and faith in family. In narrative, he is the secret behind what beckons, whose reveal answers questions first denied, then demanded.

Fen'Harel, The Dread Wolf, is an enigmatic trickster god of the elves, whose supposed betrayal of both the benevolent Creators and the malefic Forgotten Ones is the only explanation most elves have for the destruction of Arlathan. Dalish clans view him with wariness and seek to protect themselves and their kin from his treachery. His narrative role changes with the curse of perspective. He has as many faces as names. His arrival is as much profanity as prayer. (Also note: That in Dragon Age Origins, we learn that Dalish clans often place a statue of the Dread Wolf on the edge of camp to ward off evil spirits and for protection - so again, showing their fear but also their somewhat benevolence for the Dread Wolf).

Mythal, the Great Protector, also called the All-Mother, and the Goddess of Love, is the patron of motherhood and justice who leads the pantheon with her male counterpart, Elgar'nan. In narrative, she is the portent that spurs the story, suffering first and most the forces that wish the tale untold and the hero unsung.

Dumat, the Dragon of Silence – 1st Blight (Deceased, bound to Dirthamen)

Zazikel, Dragon of Chaos – 2nd Blight (Deceased, bound to Falon’Din)

Toth, Dragon of Fire – 3rd Blight (Bound to Sylaise. Though deceased, for the purposes of this story, I’ve decided to swap Draconis – who is obviously either bound to Mythal or is Mythal? And say that upon Toth’s death – Mythal absorbed his soul and became what we now know as her being able to transform into a high dragon - why not, right?)

Androal, Dragon of Slaves – 4th Blight (Deceased, bound to Andruil’s)

Urthemiel, Dragon of Beauty – 5th Blight (Deceased, bound to June)

Razikale, Dragon of Mystery (Deceased, bound to Ghilan’nain)

Lusacan, Dragon of Night (Currently alive for the purposes of this story, bound to Elgar’nan)

Draconis, Dragon that was stricken from all historical records (Obviously, this is Mythal’s dragon but for the purposes of this story- Bound to Sylaise.) And since Draconis has so been done as a dragon name – and quite a few of the dragon names are latin – I’m changing this one to Cordis (of the heart). Also since in the story, she is named by Elgar’nan.

Media Preservation Monday

Yeah, yeah, as of this original post it's actually only Wednesday but hey, take this as a sign to take some initiative, and keep to it each Monday at minimum if you're actively writing!

What's Media Preservation Monday, you may ask?

MPM is your reminder to back up your writing at least three ways at least once a week or whenever you make major changes to your document(s).

Here's some incredibly easy ways to back up your writing:

One your Master Document(s), put a date on the file name, and every day you make changes, "Save As" the Document and change the date. Do this every time or day you make major changes.

Example: You start writing your Novella November Story on November 1st.

You name your master document "Novnov Project 11-01-2024"

The next day, you write some more, and at the end of your writing session, you go to save your document, and instead of simply hitting "Save" you choose "Save As" and save the new copy of the Document as "Novnov Project 11-02-2024".

You now have two copies of your project, and if you keep this up throughout the whole month, you will have a live snapshot of your writing progress.

Each day or after each major writing session, open up the folder containing your document, and back it up. The Easiest and simplest way to do this is to simply email it to yourself, but you can also create multiple backups by:

Save a copy of your dated Master Document(s) to different locations on your Hard-drive, to an external hard-drive, to a thumbdrive, etc.

If you're writing offline on a writing program like Libreoffice, upload a copy of your Master Document(s) to your preffered Cloud-based Writing Program of your choice.

Vice Versa: if you write on a Cloud-based writing program, download it to various offline-based locations.

Download the base document as well as download it as various ebook formats and send them to your ebook library on your phone or kindle or nook or reading app.

Make a personal discord server and upload the document/epub form of your Master Document(s) there [this is also a good way of making a kind of personal journal / diary etc]

Whatever you do, do not be complacent and assume nothing can happen to your writing. Back it up. Preserve it.

Don't have all of your hard work go down the drain because of one tiny unforeseen accident.

When it comes time to clean up your hardrive, always assume you don't have it backed up. Before deleting anything always take the time to copy it over to another physical drive or a cloud drive.

TDFheads, want your opinions.

So the map from the game I think was using a more vague model of Neopia before Brightvale was added to the world map. TDF came out in 2005 and the Neopia map was updated in 2006.

In the game, Sophie lives in the Werelupe Woods, despite her title literally being Swamp Witch, so you would expect her to be closer to Bogshot.

In Tale of Woe, Sophie is pretty explicitly placed in a swamp somewhere in Haunted Woods.

Now, assuming that the TDF map is SOMEWHAT accurate though maybe not exact, do we think it is possible that Werelupe Woods/Bogshot are actually part of Haunted Woods territory even though the map is explicitly labeled "Kingdoms of Brightvale and Meridell"?

In the official canon map, Brightvale is close-ish to Haunted Woods, so it could be that Werelupe Woods and Bogshot are somewhere between Brightvale and Haunted Woods?

All of this is to ask: do we think that Sophie could possibly exist anywhere near Bogshot swamp?

I remember seeing a post recently where it was being discussed that she was immune to the Darkest Faerie's influence because she was in Werelupe Woods. Because she is somewhat of a neutral character, do we think it's possible that she relocated to Werelupe Woods temporarily because she somehow caught wind of the Werelupe King's deal with TDF and wanted to take advantage of it, but would normally be found somewhere out in the swamp?

We know from Neopedia that she definitely lives in a swamp *in Haunted Woods*, so if we consider Bogshot to be part of Brightvale and not Haunted Woods, then I don't think it would be possible for this to be canon. But as far as I can tell, Bogshot is already not really canon, and the in-game map is DEFINITELY not canon when compared to the live map. The official game lore says Bogshot is "north of Brightvale" but it also implies that Brightvale is east of Meridell and that appears to not be officially true, so we could maybe conclude that the residents just misdrew their maps based on a limited amount of information and misjudged the cardinal directions? 🤔 (or just consider it retconned since it's pretty inaccurate)

But yeah, feel free to weigh in. I really like Bogshot, I think it's a quaint little swamp town, and I like the idea of Sophie's home being somewhere in the Bogshot Swamp even if not in the village of Bogshot itself (I think she would be too much of a loner to live that close to other people)

Edit: To be clear, I can choose to believe this and headcanon it all I want of course, but if suddenly Bogshot were turned into a real location and were placed near Haunted Woods and Sophie's lore were updated to claim that she lived near Bogshot in the Haunted Woods, would that be TOO retconny based on what we know about Bogshot's lore from the game that it is closer to Brightvale?

Where do you think Jeremy’s official documents are and how will he get them back?

Either his parents have them stashed in a lockbox at the bank, or they're being kept at their workplace (the hospital).

Either way, I strongly suspect that William knows where they are and will also have a hand in helping Jeremy get them back.

I'm also considering the very real possibility that Jeremy *doesn't* get his original documents back from his parents. In fact, it's possible at some point that Jeremy chooses to walk away without any of it, consequences be damned. It's also possible Jean will discover Jeremy's predicament, and will leverage his connections (Neil or the FBI or both) to get Jeremy new copies of all his documents.

It would be very fitting for Jean to take a leaf out of Neil's book and use negotiation tactics to save Jeremy (much in the same way Neil used similar tactics to protect Jean).

your take on lando is so interesting and by far the most nuanced view of him I’ve seen. I think’s it clear that he needs help managing his emotions bc some of things he says and done are baffling and the latest thing of him liking criticism proves it. he doesn’t have that champion mentality (or just seem to be in a good headspace) and a lot of that can be traced backed to McLaren. He messes up his starts every time and that could be linked with a mental barrier but ig no at McLaren cares enough to look into that???Like that’s your driver and your wdc you’re washing down the drain.

I think I retain an enormous amount of empathy for him because prior to this year he was one of my favourites. I think he started acting strange and immature and there was this initial huge backlash but this weekend has kind of made me see things more clearly, between his actions, his words to media, how McLaren handle him, and his driving. And he really is a victim of his environment.

He IS an incredibly good driver. Before you all boo me: sure he's nowhere near Max who's currently in another league, nor is he really near Charles who would be in this championship instead of Lando if not for Ferrari shitting the bed midseason. Lando is however, on par with George, and currently probably better than Carlos and Oscar. I would happily call him the third best driver on the grid at the moment. He however, does have a problem with starts, that's just a fact. As you said anon, it's more than just experience at this point there is obviously some sort of mental block there–he's clearly going into these starts expecting to lose places. But again, like you said, McLaren obviously don't care enough to look into that. Other things this weekend just made me notice: him snapping at a journalist is not and has never been normal behaviour for him, for example, begging McLaren for that switch in the sprint and immediately catastrophising that they won't do it (pressing the radio button immediately to panic and say "I thought we talked about this") is another example of just, slightly abnormal behaviour. That coupled with his internet lurking (he liked an edit of Max a week back, and is now obviously reading his comments) paints a picture I'm not sure I like. I'm never going to assume anything, but considering he's talked about struggling with mental health in the past, I can't help but be a little uneasy on his behalf.

All of the above becomes especially true if we consider McLaren and the case of Daniel Ricciardo. As much as they love to position themselves as the champions in the sport of mental health, the whole Daniel thing remains a worrying incident they've tried their best to sweep under the rug–he never recovered his mentality in that team and instead of working with him the team were perfectly happy to throw him to one side with little regard to prioritise Lando instead. I can't help but feel with a certain sinking that this is what they plan to do with Lando and Oscar, if Lando doesn't win the championship next year. The problem is, Lando is a lot younger than Daniel was, with a lot more career ahead of him and theoretically, a much higher ceiling to reach–yet McLaren seem perfectly happy to not put any development into Lando to help him reach that ceiling. Just like some drivers need developing in the wet, or the dry, or high downforce, or reaction times, some drivers need developing in their mentality. And it is McLaren's job to recognise this if the driver doesn't recognise it in themselves, and tell them what they need to go work on. This should have been something that was flagged as a development area for Lando way before this season, even as far back as 2021 it was apparent and yet McLaren have done nothing to help him and seem happier to just, leave him out to dry.

McLaren is the true evil here and for all their attempts to appeal to a younger demographic and impassioned defences of their morality and mental health being important–I think they've proven that they would rather take the easy road than the right one, even if the right one could yield more results. Oscar struggles with other things that Lando doesn't struggle with ie. tyre management, quali but I think they will repeat their pattern of rather than developing a driver they want to discard an extremely good one in the fruitless search of a generational talent. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think its impossible that instead of taking responsibility for losing the WDC this year (because make no mistake, this is mostly their fault–from a strategy point of view to how they've managed their drivers to refusing to give Lando the support he needs until its too late) they will just try and shift the blame and indirectly pin the failure of this year on Lando in order to try and match public sentiment. Ultimately, Lando has been failed by his team and his environment more than anything and even though I'm happy this championship has (deservedly) gone to Max, I can't help but feel that Lando was not given a fighting chance by his team.

I know it's hard for everyone but please, keep sharing, anything ANYTHING helps. We've been getting a bit of food and paying little by little what we owe at the corner store but the upcoming card payment is $190 and my meds are $130 and then let's not forget my healthcare renewal. I also bring bad news, we're starting with water shortages just like last year, we've gone from having 4 days of water a week to 1-2 if we're lucky. Our only toilet is busted and there are 9 people here who use it. My kid still needs attention for a UTI he's had for a couple of months now. And my partner has 3 ingrown nails and 2 big cuts on his feet he's kept unattended for weeks. I'd hate to up the goal but we need every help we can get!!
