KPDH AU where Baby survived out of the Saja Boys hear me out (Also includes my own and other's headcanons)

We technically didn't see Baby and Romance getting killed so this is me being delusional but also killing off Romance because I like seeing my favorites suffer (sorry Baby <3)

ANYWAY after the Honmoon is sealed and Gwi-Ma is defeated, Baby's demonic powers disappeared and fell into some kind of coma when he got his soul back. Sussie and Derpy (Jinu's pets) found him before the Huntrix did and took him to Rumi's and Jinu's old meeting place to rest. When Baby woke up and found out about the rest of the boys' deaths, he sucked up his emotions and went to the only people who can MAYBE help him with his current situation.

To say the girls weren't surprised is an underestimate, Zoey was sure he killed the guy but Baby is standing right in front of them. On their balcony. With a demon tiger and a demon bird next to him. Although reluctantly, they took Baby under their wing and had to make an excuse to Bobby why exactly Baby Saja of the Saja Boys is in their building. Besides, it's not like he can do anything without his powers. The girls were still a little warry of him but they eventually soften up and start knowing about each other.

They found out that outside of his Idol Persona, he's VERY chaotic and maniac like. He started making harmless pranks once they settled in a more even page.

Zoey hit it off with Baby first and it went pretty well. They became instatnt bestfriends when they found out that they actually have a lot in common other than being the rapper and maknae of their respective groups. Outside of the music industry, they'd go aroung shopping for cute clothes and accessories. And in a personal prespective, they know what it's like to not know where they belong.

Rumi and Baby bonded in grief about Jinu, she also let him talk about the rest of his friends. Baby would tell her crazy stories they did together when they first became an actual friend group years ago, how they'd create trouble and pranks for shits and giggles because those were the first times Gwi-Ma's voice couldn't get into them.

Baby was shunned and outcasted by his family and village because of his eyes. He had natural slit pupils and since he came from maybe hundreds of years ago, they saw him as cursed or associated with an evil spirit. And because of that, Baby gained a rather harsh and rash personality just to protect himself. That's how Mira found out that she and Baby weren't so different when it comes to being shunned by people who were suppose to care for you. She respected him even more after that conversation and understood his behavior.

Eventually, the girls learned about Baby's real name. Daeun (thank you for your service @/filijester🙏). He blurted it out during a movie night when Rumi called his stage name if he wanted more pop corn. The girls were delighted that Baby-sorry Daeun- trusted them enough for him to tell them his real name. (Zoey cried and hugged the life out of him)

And as for the SB Fans raging in the internet wanting to know what happened to the Saja Boys, Daeun simply told them that they were going on an Indefinite Hiatus because of an "argument". Besides what's he suppose to say? Oh yeah we were actually demons who wanted to feast on your souls but the Huntrix stopped us because they're demon hunters and I'm somehow the only one who survived out of all of us.

He still upload solos and sometimes even collabs with Huntrix. He really likes being an idol. He also made a song to subtley honor his members deaths.

When Celine found out about Daeun and his friendship with Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, she wasn't exactly happy but she wasn't exactly upset either. He's not a demon anymore so she thinks it's alright. (The girls got her to warm up to him though, mainly thanks to Rumi). But since it came to this, she made him train under her to become an honorary Hunter. And, in her words "While he can stand his ground, it's better to be safe than sorry."

Also, Saja Boys are actually alive and found out their youngest believes that they're dead and is trying to live his new human life to the fullest through Sussie and Derpy. They made it their mission to find Baby and reunite with him once again.

(They also saw the song Baby made to honor them, they all cried)

i've seen it floating around that derpy and sussie (jinu's tiger and bird) are some form of demons as well, but i really don't think they are

i think, instead, they're creatures associated with the same form of magic that allows the honmoon to exist, and exist in harmony with both it and the demon world. they're the narrative bridge between rumi and jinu...

while demons cross the honmoon via angry red tears, derpy triggers its usual cool blue tones when using it to travel

and, notably, they weren't stuck in the demon realm after huntr/x created a new honmoon

we don't see any other creatures like them in what we see of the demon world, and they seem to act independently from gwi-ma. so what's their deal? how did jinu get these guys as friends?

this has just occurred to me while typing, but... could they be connected to jinu's mother and sister, somehow? there's a lot of ways that could work, or it could be irrelevant, idk

i don't know enough about korean folklore to speculate further, but it's very interesting, and very casual worldbuilding from the team. subtle enough to fly under the radar as something unimportant, but carries a lot of implications if you look a little harder

Based on your Headcanon of KPop Demon Hunters, what could Mira and Zoey could react or feel when they finally meet Derpy and Sussie for the first time after Rumi adopted them after Jinu died?

I think they’d both love Derpy and Sussie.

I feel like Zoey’s a huge animal lover and would be obsessed with Derpy, putting sketches of him in all of her notebooks. She also makes Sussie the most hats, even a tiny crown out of her old jewelry, and Sussie loves the attention.

Mira’s not such a huge fan of animals, but still enjoys interacting with them, especially Sussie. They’re both really low-key and chill, so Sussie frequently enjoys being near her. Mira also sheds a lot of hair, despite taking good care of it, and at some point, Sussie builds a nest that comes out pink because of all the hair Mira leaves around that Sussie uses to make it.

Also both of them love riding Derpy when he flies, but they have to take turns because Derpy can’t carry all three girls at once, and Derpy never goes anywhere without Rumi.

did y'all have a word for the teleport/bamfing/smoke screen that demons (or at least Jinu) did?

does Jinu control the Saja Boys like he does other demons (like the one's that took on the Zooey & Mira that he just sorta "snapped" into looking like them and then they bamfed?

are there hierarchies of demons, like Jinu keeps his human shape (no massive, overbite fangs out all the time, no green wrinkled skin and horns, etc.), and most (all?) of the other demons (the Saja Boys?) look like the more "stereotypical" demons that the girls are used to slaying?

You mentioned Derpy & Kkachi not belonging to Jinu particularly (I think? or did I misunderstand?) and being more like all-around messengers (omens ???!!!) -- do other's see them? Like, obviously Rumi is afraid that Mira will see them when she chats with her in Rumi's room, but at other instances in the movie it doesn't seem like other's can see them? Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie and I'm having a blast piecing together lore (and letting my imagination run wild :D). Thanks for bringing this to our attention! I would have missed this movie altogether if you hadn't mentioned it <3

Gonna answer these under the cut~

I wasn't made aware of any specific terminology for the poof'ing that the demons do, but I do know that Gwi-ma "yanks" Jinu in to the demon world lol

This is personally my headcanon based on a couple of things you see throughout the film, which is why I'm also not bothered that the Saja Boys don't have actual names or additional backstories/personalities. I don't know if that's what the directors decided to go for, but i like these changes a lot better than older verisons that I saw. If we had more runtime though, I think things would've been different.

I like that you ask about hierarchies. There were story pitches that implied a hierarchical structure, but there were too many story changes happening at once that it's not really talked about in the final product. I strongly encourage you to run with those thoughts and form your own ideas :)

Whether Derpy and Sussie are seen by others is up to interpretation. Personally, I think everyone can see them, because unless they like being sneaky + Rumi is a bit delulu, there's no reason for them to be hiding/be hidden. The end scene is probably the only thing that's kinda weird cuz why be out in public like that when someone can see you from a nearby skyscraper? But personally i like to think that they can sense when they're being perceived so they can disappear when that happens.

Rumi sat up with a gasp. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to slow her quick breathing. When she opened them again, she yanked the covers from her legs and slipped off and away from the bed. She cast a lingering glance at her door, considering going to Zoey or Mira about the nightmare, but ultimately deciding against it. They needed their rest.

Instead, she opened up the glass door on her right and stepped outside. The cool night air hit her face as she shut the door behind her. Leaning against the railing, she gazed out over the beautiful city, glowing with many lights. If she couldn't go to her best friends for comfort, who could she go to?

An image of Jinu's tiger and magpie came to mind. They were the perfect ones to help her! She straightened up, went back inside, made sure no one was watching, and left down the elevator in search of Derpy and Sussie. After ten minutes of searching, the task started feeling impossible. She reached a last roof and fell to her knees.

That's when they arrived.

Derpy curled up behind her so she could lean back. Rumi twisted to wrap her arms around the tiger's neck and buried her face into his soft fur. Sussie nestled into her downed wavy hair. She fell asleep again like that, surrounded by the comfort she had searched for that had found her instead.

If only Jinu was here to experience it with her.
