The thing that I love about "The Crossing" is that, Tech is upset like Omega, and if you pay enough attention, you can tell.

Early on in the episode, I made a note of Omega being grumpy, to my sister, after she sass-mouthed Hunter when he told her to be careful. Then later on, I laughed and said that I think Tech's a bit grumpy too, afted he sass-mouthed Wrecker a little more harshly than usual. And, like, he is.

He isn't as obvious as Omega, Omega is very bubbly and sunshiny, so when she's upset and grumpy, you can tell. But Tech doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve like Omega does, so his general demeanor and disposition doesn't change. What does change is the way that he talks.

From the very beginning of the episode he's speaking very matter-of-factly, at least, more than usual, and is very snippy at Wrecker. He's usually quite sassy at Wrecker, but it usually feels like brotherly teasing, but in this episode it feels harsh and snippy. And it all eventually culminates at him snapping at Omega.

And then the way that Hunter responds to him. He explains to him what he did wrong, why it was wrong, and how to fix it. And when Tech responds with his literal interpretation of Omega's request to be left alone, Hunter explains what she meant. Because Hunter understands Omega, and why she's upset, but he also understands Tech, and the way that he thinks.

The whole episode feels like it's eventually culminating into Tech's line of, "I may process thoughts and moments differently, but that does not mean that I feel any less." And it's amazing, I love it.

As an Autistic person, I really appreciate the very clear care, thought, and effort that went into this episode. There's a sort of limitation with a universe like Star Wars, because things aren't gonna be called by the same names as in our universe, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. And they clearly tried, even within their constraints, to confirm what many us already knew.

Tech is by no means perfect. He's a very stereotypical portrayal of Autism. But there's just something so special about him, that I can't quite put my finger on, that makes him so special to me, and many other Autistic fans.
