So, you lied to me? - Lando Norris x Tourist! Reader
Plot: Going on a travel year you end up in Monaco, the plan wasn't too fall for the man who helped you to the British Embassy and gave you a place to stay when someone stole everything from you ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You took a gap year before university and decided to travel you'd started off the New Year on a flight from London, to Qatar to New Zealand. You travelled around New Zealand and Australia for the majority of January, before moving on to Papa New Guinea, Fiji and Samoa.
You then travelled round the South Asian countries, like Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines and Taiwan all throughout February. You then moved onto China, doing both Disney Parks while you were there and sight seeing. You did South Korea and Japan.
Coming into April, you moved onto Sri Lanka and India, and The Middle East, doing Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrian, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Afterwards, now having done 2 continents, you moved onto Africa, you spent the end of April and the majority of May travelling here, before leaving for Europe.
A nice 2 weeks island hopping around Greece, before a week travelling up the boot of Italy.
It was when you drove to Monaco in a rental car that things got difficult.
You were walking along the harbor where all the expensive yachts were docked wishing that one could be yours. You didn't have all your bags on you, the larger ones left behind in the hotel room you'd booked for the night. But you had your important stuff on you, like you passport, your drivers license and all your travel documents.
You were taking a picture on your nice Canon camera of the yachts and the street that had weird red corners rounding it that you put down to being measures to just help drivers slow down round the corners, but they were definitely an eyesore.
Every time nice cars drove by there was whistles and claps that made you look at what car it was, you could never tell what model it was but they looked nice and you guess you could say sporty.
As you were distracted taking your pictures a guy comes up to you with a small, parcel cutting knife in his hand. He slit the straps of what you thought was a really sturdy bag and the weight notifies you to the loss of the bag. You let your camera drop as you turn to see the guy now holding your bag and starting to run away with it.
"Hey! Stop" you shout before running after him.
"Aide, Aide" you shout as you continue to follow him, your minimal French not helping as people scold you for being a bustly tourist.
You aren't really looking where you going and you loose him at a busy intersection of people, you spin round looking at every possible direction he could have gone in.
"Shit!" you whisper to yourself quietly tears coming in your eyes. You spin round a little to quickly, bumping into someone who drops the bag that they were holding.
"Désolé, mon erreur" you try looking at the young gentleman you'd bumped into in a hoodie and jeans. He looks at you with a confused look, a smirk coming onto his face.
"Oh sorry, tu ne parles pas français? Maybe Italian, erm fuck scusa, parli italiano?" you ask with again the bare minimum of Italian you know.
"I speak perfectly good English" he smiles, laughing a little as your expression turns to shock.
"Oh! Oh I'm so stupid. Hello!" you smile looking at the very attractive man in front of you, you blushed a little looking up at him.
"You look panicked what's wrong?" he asks.
"I was tacking pictures of the harbor and some guy took my bag. It has everything in of mine and I don't know what to do" You say to him looking a little more panicked.
"Everything as in money ... because I can help with that" he says placing a hand on your arm.
"I don't care about the money, but he has all of my documents. My passport, my drivers license everything" you cry a little.
"Oh! Erm, I have a friend who was born here, and let me get him and he can help us file a police report. Then mmm the British Embassy is all the way in Paris and you cant get a flight so we'll have to drive there..." he starts to rant and your face turned shocked.
"We?" you ask, confused as to how this guy has just inserted himself into your life drama's.
"Oh yeah, I've gotta help you out now. You got that whole damsel in distress thing going on right now! Any way damsel, what's your name?" he jokes and you look over at him offended.
"I am not a damsel in distress! And Y/N" you retort.
"You so are, the tear stains, the wide, helpless eyes, the guppy fish face your pulling right now, the butchered French and Italian to a strange man who actually is British... Y/N" he laughs making you pout and push him a little.
"I don't even have a place to stay after 3pm today and I cant check in anywhere without ID" you say rubbing your head, looking around as if the man would randomly pop back up and hand you your bag back before saying how sorry he was.
"You can stay at my place, I have two spare bedrooms" he smiles and you look at him in shock.
"You live here, in Monaco ..." you ask.
"Yeah, I moved here a few years ago, for ...work" he offers, he phones his friend walking off for a few seconds alone before he pulls you along one of the side streets and too a quiet cafe he went to, to keep under wraps.
"Okay, Y/N this is my friend ... er Percy" he says pointing to Charles, so far you hadn't shown any signs of knowing who he is and he didn't want you to catch wind of that.
"Hello Percy, its nice to meet you" you smile and he looks at you with a vacant yet confused expression.
"Oh and whose this you are beautiful" you compliment looking at the girl behind him.
"Y/N this is my girlfriend Alex" Charles indicates to Alex behind him who smiles and pulls you in for a kind hug that you definitely needed. You could hear both of their strong accents as they introduced himself.
"Oh, I never got you name, what's your name?" you ask turning to look at Lando, who freezes for a second.
"Erm, my names Robert, but you can call me Bob" he smiles and you raise and eyebrow at him.
"Hmmm, you don't look like a Robert... or a Bob. Interesting choice" you voice your opinion making everyone awkwardly laugh.
Charles, Lando and Alex took you to the nearest police station in Monaco, Charles translated what they were saying and you answered to which he and Alex would help translate back.
Charles explained that they were escalating it because you are a tourist in need, but you picked up some words that made the sentence not sound like that at all.
You were asked if you had a place to say and Lando explained you'd be staying with him until everything was sorted out.
The Monegasque police got in contact with the Paris British Embassy for you, they explained that the police had sent over you information and if you wanted to hold off on a new passport for a few days to see if it would turn up you were more than welcome, but right now your passport was on lockdown.
And that was how you ended up spending the end of July and all of August with Lando, it was strange really. For a man who had and extremely nice collection of clothes and a very large apartment he didn't go to work often. There was one room you weren't allowed in which is where he often went, you assumed it was a man cave or gaming room where he played with his friends because you heard lots of shouting and aggressive banging.
He'd been so sweet, he took you on dates from going out to dinner, to picnics, to going swimming and lots more. It felt like more than a summer fling. Especially once he asked you to be his girlfriend, which you immediately said yes too.
But he got a lot more twitchy after he had.
Eventually, Lando or Bob as you knew him took you to Paris so you could get your passport. He explained that he travelled a lot for work and he would need to leave soon and you explained that before you bumped into him you'd been on a gap year travelling the world.
"Baby, why don't you come with me?" he asked randomly as you were both lying on the sofa, cuddling while watching a film.
"You wont even tell me what you do for work Baby! And besides I had a schedule that I'm already behind on. A week ago you said you didn't mind going our separate ways for a little bit until Christmas and then you'd come to England with me" you say playing with his curls.
"Okay, I'm going to be honest with you now... my name isn't Bob" he says shyly and you sit up at the speed of light turning to look at him.
"I knew it! So you lied to me?" you exclaim laughing.
"So, what's my boyfriends actual name?" you ask looking him dead in the eyes, he leans up on his elbows before sitting the full way up.
"Lando, I am Lando Norris" he smiles.
"Hmmmm, Lando... Lando. I could get used to that" you smile.
"You aren't mad?" he asks looking over you, brushing you hair back and tucking it behind your ear before kissing your cheek.
"I knew you weren't being completely honest when we first met... but I also knew you had your own reasons" you offer.
"I think its going to be easier if I just hand you my Instagram" he admits with a gulp as he hands you his phone. The first thing you notice is how many followers he had, there was around 10million and he had nearly 2,500 posts.
You look at the friends list, and one peeks your interest. Charles Leclerc, who looked exactly like Percy who Lando had introduced you too.
You then go back and look at his bio, that told you his actual job.
"So, I'm dating a super famous athlete?" you ask looking up at him away from the phone to see his head down in his hands. He turns to the side to sneak a look at your expression, his eyes a little glossy.
"To be specific, a Formula 1 driver" you ask again and he nods.
"You are such a muppet, my god" you laugh before pulling him into a hug.
"How aren't you upset with me?" he ask unsure.
"Well, I agreed to date you, because you are you. I doubt you change into Mr Hyde when you become a what was is Porsche race-car driver? I fell in love with you, not Bob, not Lando, you. So whether that is Bob, who kindly helped a crying lady on the street who just had her passport stolen from her, or Lando a cool and amazing race-car driver. Whoever you are is the person I love" you grin and he pulls you into a hug.
"So you want to join me for the last few races? Or you want to finish this world trip of yours?" he asks.
"Well, looking at your calendar, I can actually meet you at the rest of the races, While travelling. I'll continue to do Europe until you have the Netherlands, and ill go back to Italy, just for you. I'll miss Azerbaijan and Singapore because I did that, but I'll knock out some of South America, I'll meet you for Austin, then we can do Mexico and Brazil together, then we can do Vegas together! And by that point I can call it done with my trip!" you exclaim and he looks like he considers it for a second.
He's shocked, he cant remember the last time a girlfriend tried so hard to link up their schedules like this, and proved that they'd be able to work despite some potential scheduling issues.
"I love you. I fucking love you" he grins pulling you back down onto the sofa kissing all over your face making you giggle.
A/N: I've been doing a lot of Lando recently, I don't know if you can tell but I love writing about him, he's my fav to write about right now.

John Gutierrez had been thinking about buying a new laptop for the past year. The Austin, Texas, resident needed a computer with faster processing and increased storage for his photography work and had his sights set on a product from a Taiwanese brand.
Then President Donald Trump announced expansive new import tariffs Wednesday, including a 32% tax on imports from Taiwan. That same day, Gutierrez ordered the laptop, with a base price of $2,400, from a retailer in New York specializing in photo and video gear.
“I thought I’d bite the bullet, buy it now, and then that way I’ll have the latest technology on my laptop and don’t have to worry about the tariffs,” he said.
Gutierrez was among the U.S. consumers rushing to buy big-ticket items before the tariffs take effect. Economists say the tariffs are expected to increase prices for everyday items, warning of potentially weakened U.S. economic growth.
The White House hopes the tariffs prod countries to open their economies to more American exports, leading to negotiations that could reduce tariffs, or that companies increase their production in the U.S. to avoid higher import taxes.
Rob Blackwell and his wife needed a new car that could handle long drives from Arlington, Virginia, to their son’s college. Their current electric vehicle is older with a limited range, and it will soon be used by his daughter, who is on the verge of getting her driver’s license.
“I have been telling my wife that for some time we were going to need to do it,” he said, “and I was watching to see what the president did with tariffs.”
Blackwell wanted another EV, but said leasing made more economic sense because the technology is ever-changing. He had his eye on the new General Motors Optiq; it’s an American car but made in Mexico, which could be subject to tariffs on supply chains that might increase the cost.
After hearing that tariffs would be announced, they made plans the weekend before to lease the car. He said the dealership honored the agreement they worked out before the tariffs were finalized. And although he said the salespeople were a pleasure to deal with, Blackwell sensed a shift in their stance.
“They know what we know, which is suddenly it flips from a buyer’s market to a seller’s market very quickly,” Blackwell said, adding that he is happy with his choice.
“It was just a simple rational decision,” he said. “If this is what the government’s going to do, I need to get my act together.”
Lee Wochner, CEO of the Burbank, California-based Counterintuity marketing and strategy firm, also needed a new vehicle. He wanted a more presentable car for business meetings, but kept putting it off because of his busy work schedule.
On March 27, a Thursday, he told his firm’s car broker: “Ed, I need a car pronto and it’s got to happen by Sunday.”
The broker gave him some car and pricing options and he leased an Audi Q3, which was delivered Sunday to his house by a nearby dealership.
A quick back-of-the-envelope calculation showed how much he saved by leasing before the tariffs were implemented. If he had waited, Wochner said, it would have cost about another $4,300.
“One of the things my car broker said was that deals that were already written, some of the dealerships were ripping them up already and renegotiating them because they were afraid that they weren’t going to be able to get enough new inventory at a price anybody would buy,” he said.
He believes prices will continue to increase because the U.S. has lost the trust of the international trade market.
“If you need a new car, if you can get that pre-tariff deal still, you should go get it,” he said, “because who knows what next Wednesday might be like.”

Thinking about traffic and driving stereotypes. Specifically in relation to “Asians are bad drivers” and how I HATE when people come over here and complain about driving skills and traffic. Different countries just have different styles.
USAmericans are TERRIBLE at backing into parking spaces, parallel parking, sharing the road with pedestrians and cyclists.
Guess what? There’s a reason for that. There’s so much SPACE in the US
The big thing a lot of Americans bring up when they go to any other country is “Oh man, it’s a free-for-all and people can just drive as fast as they want” which is by the way NOT true in every country but also lol yeah maybe they do do that and guess what, they still don’t crash.
By the way, the concept of cops being able to just stop your car and pull you over to give you a ticket is archaic and scary and wild, USA
In Taiwan specifically, people turn corners INCREDIBLY slowly and hit pedestrians in crosswalks a lot. I can’t speak to the crosswalks, but the slow turns are BECAUSE the corners are so tight that they HAVE to be careful
Taiwanese (and Chinese) drivers are SUPER good at parking in tight spaces and (generally) sharing the road with scooters, cyclists, and pedestrians. A lot of roads don’t even have sidewalks and I could walk my dog down them at night and not even worry about either of us getting hit. They know how to look out for that stuff.
Actually, it’s not uncommon for a car to just put on their hazards and treat the road like a parking space. They park in the far right lane of a road in front of a business and everyone just. Goes around them no problem. People adjust to the space limitations here.
Then there’s all these foreigners (AMERICANS) who come over and think they can drive but end up hitting all sorts of shit because they can’t drive on such narrow roads
Get OVER these dumb ass driving stereotypes and consider the REASON for people driving the way they do, right????

                        SEMICONDUCTORS
(How India is progressing in this sector)
1.What is a Semiconductor?
Semiconductors are materials which has electrical conductivity ranging between conductors and insulators. Conductors are good conductors of electricity while Insulators are bad conductors of electricity.
Tumblr media
2.Where is a semiconductor used?
Semiconductors are used in manufacture of various electronic devices like diodes, transistors and integrated circuits. The most popular use of a semiconductor is in cars. In vehicles these semiconductor chips are used to control emission systems, driver assist systems etc. Not only in electric cars these chips are also used in petrol cars.
Tumblr media
3.A Semiconductor is made up of which material?
Generally a Semiconductor chip is made up of silicon, germanium and gallium arsenide. Out of these three germanium is the oldest.
4.How will a semiconductor help?
First of all semiconductors regulate the flow of electricity and assist in making electronics function. Secondly the electrical conductivity of a semiconductor can be controlled over a wide range making them versatile for various applications. As I told you earlier that a semiconductor is not only used in electric cars but also in petrol cars, this is because semiconductors increase fuel efficiency in cars. By using semiconductors in engine control systems car manufacturers can achieve more precise control of the engine resulting in improved fuel economy and lower emissions.
So these were some common questions people ask when they hear about a semiconductor.
Now you must know that how it will help India and what steps India is taking to manufacture semiconductors in India.
At present Taiwan, USA, Japan, South Korea, China, Israel, Netherlands, UK and Germany can manufacture semiconductors. Out of these countries China and Taiwan produce a large amount of semiconductor.
More exciting thing was that USA and China were in contention with each other in this matter. During era of Donald Trump there aroused a semiconductor war between USA and China. USA wanted to disrupt China's semiconductor manufacturing and hence put a lot of sanctions on China. USA also funded Taiwan and wanted Taiwan to produce more semiconductors than China.
Tumblr media
In all this India was benefited a lot. India also wanted to develop semiconductor plants in country and facilitate ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT initiative.
https://ism.gov.in/ this is the link of Government's India Semiconductor Mission. This mission aims at forming a semiconductor ecosystem in India.
Tumblr media
Government of India is also working on many other semiconductor initiatives like SPECS initiative. Moreover a joint venture of Vedanta electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has finalised Dholera Special Investment Region near Ahmedabad for setting up their semiconductor display manufacturing facility.
So much progress is happening in India and surely it will facilitate India's economy and will also provide more job opportunities. India will surely emerge as a Developed nation in upcoming years and these semiconductor initiatives are like a cherry on the cake.
Watch this video for more info.
I hope you liked my article
Pls put forward your views in comment section
Till then PEACE OUT........

What are some of your favorite cities you’ve been to?  Bangkok was so much fun that I'm already itching to go back. I was there for 4 days with the most jam-packed, NONSTOP itinerary you can imagine someone having; and yet it still felt like barely scratching the surface of what could have been explored there.
Shanghai was fun too, but you also have to be filthy rich to fully enjoy their offers – for me though it was fun enough to people-watch and try the local McDonald's haha, so I'm still counting it as a favorite.
Would you allow your children to date prior to 16? I did, so it would be hypocritical of me not to allow them. The only thing I'd change is to foster an open, warm environment at home so my kids can share with me what they're up to and ask questions if there's any concerns, because I had to hide my relationship for the entirety of it.
Did you ever go through a phase where you thought guys in bands were ‘hot?’ I guess, but I wasn't super deep into the phase. There was just a brief point where I wanted to date like a drummer, and I didn't even attend small shows in an attempt to catch a band member's eye.
What’s something about adult life you were never warned of or prepared for? How lost everyone is. I thought you'd kind of just figure everything out once you turned a certain age.
Did your parents teach you proper table manners when you were growing up? More my mom than my dad, but yeah. My mom had this brief phase where she kept telling us she'd enroll us in this series of etiquette classes – she never did lmao, but she tried to teach whatever she could when she had the time.
What was the last thing you baked? I've only ever baked chocolate chip cookies and I haven't done that since I was like 14. I don't have the natural skill for it and would much rather support a small business since there are like 593875954 local cookie shops who could do the job so much better anyway.
Do you live more than 5 hours away from the nearest international border? Well if you swam the distance it'd definitely take weeks haha, but as far as I know Taiwan is only a 1.5 hour plane ride away.
Does your town have a farmer’s market? We have markets literally everywhere, it's a focal point of every city. I don't know if a farmer's market holds a different meaning.
What’s the westernmost point you’ve been to? Thailand.
What was the last restaurant you made a reservation at? Blackbird. I haven't stopped thinking about their cheesecake either.
When did you last feel lonely? It's been a while tbh! I like my own company and seldom feel lonely.
Can you easily tell when others are masking their true emotions?  Sure, sometimes. I know a few people who are great at being on autopilot that I can't help but think about what they're really feeling or how they're holding up with everything going on around them.
How often do you wash your car? Every couple of weeks.
When did you last lend money to a friend? I don't do that. That's enough of a problem in Filipino society that I simply don't want to be a part of that cycle, whether it's me lending the money or me asking to borrow money.
Which app on your phone do you tend to get the most notifications from?  Viber as it's my main line for work.
Do you own a Dutch oven? If so, what was the last thing you cooked in it? I don't think we do.
What is currently on your kitchen table?  Just a towel.
What is your favorite time period in history to learn about? Any era pre-World Wars.
How old were you when you met your current best friend? 7.
Have you ever kissed a smoker? Sure.
What is the minimum age to obtain a driver’s license in your state/country? Do you think this is an appropriate age? 18, and yeah that's fair enough to me. Personally I needed it to be 18 because I needed a way to bring myself to and from university and I wasn't willing to commute, so being able to drive immediately after graduating high school was a relief.
If you won the lottery, do you think any of your family members would ask you to give them some of your money? Hypothetically, I think they would be very indirect about it; but in the first place I wouldn't even be saying a word to anyone so that I don't have to worry about people messaging me out of the blue with an agenda in tow.
What is the craziest thing you’ve seen happen at your workplace? Nothing too crazy tbh because we've had a WFH setup ever since I started. It's probably just the office looking like a hoarder's paradise as we often have boxes upon boxes of PR packages populating the area, and it often feels like a warehouse more so than an office.
Do you own any home automation gadgets like wifi thermostats or wifi bulbs? Nothing too high-tech. Our aircon downstairs can be controlled via its phone app but that's it.
What is something you gave up on after many failed attempts? Learning Photoshop.
How old were you when you started to seriously think about what career path you wanted to pursue? Towards the end of college. I had a brief, last-minute crisis where I suddenly wanted to be in law school, but it was happening when things were more or less wrapping up for me in college so I had had to sit myself down and start thinking about what it is I wanted to do.
Eventually I came to the reflection that law school will spit me back out nearly immediately, especially if I'm only thinking about the money; so between that and already hating journalism enough, I decided to take up PR and comms.
Have you ever disliked a book so much that you didn’t finish it? Yes. Maybe not dislike, but I was just so bored of the book that I didn't bother reading through the rest anymore.
Would you rather read a book, or listen to the audiobook? I'd rather read the book. I did download an audiobook recently – and it's my first audiobook too! – but I only did it because it would be impossible to find a physical copy of the book where I'm from.
Do you think tomorrow will be a better day than today? Not in the slightest.

Aperçu of the Week:
"When the lion China awakes, the world will tremble."
(Napoleon Bonaparte)
Bad News of the Week:
For months, the actions of the "Last Generation" have polarized in Germany. Who use civil disobedience as a means, call for more (political) activity against climate change and are increasingly criminalized. In doing so, they are deliberately crossing borders; after all, they are interfering with public order in a disruptive way. For example, by sticking themselves to busy intersections in order to put a stop to the archenemy, the combustion engine. As a nation of drivers, the Germans don't like that at all.
It's just as typically German to fly on vacation - we're world champions at that. And flying, with its catastrophic environmental record, combined with continued state subsidies, is a prime example of climate policy failure. So it's not really surprising that the organization paralyzed two airports on the first day of summer vacation in their states. And the displeasure was not just in Hamburg and Düsseldorf. Politicians were also quick to offer sharp criticism. Robert Habeck of the Green Party, for example, said, "The activists who are now blocking people's vacation travel are doing massive damage to the cause of climate protection." Anyone who really wants to stand up for climate protection must also have social acceptance in mind.
With this the Green politician, who is not only the Minister of Economics but also the Minister of Climate Protection, inadvertently sums it up. Because this is also evident in view of the current booking figures for air tourism: broad society simply does not want to accept that more needs to be done. And fast. But no, everyone just sticks to their comfortable habits: flying on vacation, driving a fat car, not paying for climate-friendly heating, doing online shopping in China and a schnitzel on the plate every day.
That's why journalist Janko Tietz of Der Spiegel poses a justified rhetorical question: "Perhaps Habeck also has a tip up his sleeve about how exactly he envisions protest that is socially accepted, hurts no one - and still has an effect." Because if it really is the case that both the Green Party and the climate protection minister have been softened by the results of the polls, the only thing left to do in view of the undeniable necessity is to protest in a way that hurts. Until the last one finally understands what is necessary.
Good News of the Week:
In the coalition agreement, the current government already stipulated that it wanted to define a new China strategy. That was at the end of 2021, before the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. In which China still refuses to show its colors and at the same time has significantly increased its aggressiveness toward Taiwan. And which, in its economic implications, has brought the issue of "dependence" into the mainstream consciousness.
This week, the announced paper was put on the table. 64 pages that give the impression that something has actually been learned from past experience. Sure, there is no denying that China is Germany's most important trading partner. As a sales market and as a production location. And it is admitted that in many international issues, such as the fight against climate change, it will not be possible without the Middle Kingdom. That is simply the reality.
But otherwise, there is a refreshing amount of plain speaking. In a thoroughly critical manner. A China that is taking a much more offensive stance in foreign policy is trying "in various ways to reshape the rules-based international order. This has implications for European and global security." it says already in the introduction. Likewise, the human rights violations against the Uyghurs, in Tibet and Hong Kong are clearly named.
In the economic context, too, one gets the impression that the same mistake as with the dependence on Russian gas should not happen again. There should be no decoupling from China, but the dependence on key technologies and important raw materials should be reduced. The opening of chip and battery factories at home fits in with this, even if it is more expensive. So there also seems to be a consensus within the economy itself. That's a good thing.
Personal happy moment of the week:
We had some storms last week. For example, heavy branches from the tree next door fell into the chicken enclosure of the neighboring farm. Probably with victims. I also had problems getting home from Baden-Württemberg on Thursday because of closed railroad lines - falling trees had cut power lines. Nevertheless, standing between far too many people on the train, I was dominated by confidence. I made it. Uncomfortably and with a lot of time. But still. And I will stick to taking the (ecologically better) train instead of the car. Even in difficult situations, it works, after all.
I couldn't care less...
...about the Swedish definition of freedom of expression. Following the public burning of a copy of the Koran two weeks ago, Stockholm police have authorized a demonstration to burn the holy scriptures of Jews and Christians. The choice of location alone - in front of the Israeli embassy - shows that this is a deliberate provocation that is politically motivated. Covering that with reference to the legitimate expression of personal opinion puts me in a dilemma of weighing different value-based rights against each other. Difficult.
As I write this...
...it is 33 degrees Celsius. Even I wear shorts, which my daughter finds laughable. And I drink Aperol Sprizz, which is often considered a typical women's drink. And listen to summer hits playlists that are close to the radio program, which is actually unpopular with me. Sometimes you just have to compromise.
Post Scriptum
Germany depends on immigration to maintain its prosperity. This is not just about the increasingly sought-after skilled workers in key technologies, but about additional hands and heads at all levels - from nurses to AI specialists. The bottom line is that around 500,000 are needed every year. That's according to the so-called "economic wise" who advise the federal government as an independent, non-partisan body of experts. Yet Germany is facing international competition in which it is finding it increasingly difficult to survive.
Complicated language, cumbersome bureaucracy and inadequate childcare are the classic aspects that deter potential immigrants. Added to this is the rise of right-wing populists, who are officially xenophobic. Economist Ulrike Malmendier does research at the University of California at Berkeley and sees parallels to Trumpism: "I've seen how quickly it can happen that you divide a society with simple slogans and prejudices."
Welcome culture is a beautiful word. It exists in the German dictionary, but not in reality. People not only have to come, they also have to stay - currently, one million people leave the country every year. In all society levels. Because if no one sits down next to you in the subway, it doesn't matter whether you're a refugee from Afghanistan or a neurosurgeon from Pakistan: the color of your skin is enough to make you feel exposed to resentment that has nothing to do with you personally - but shows a general latent xenophobia. To the detriment of all.

(thank you @arcalranem for reblogging this so i can drop the context now that im off work :3)
obligatory note that the friend in question was unaware of the context of the racism and i actually had to take some time to explain why it was racist, which i'll be copying here
here's the video in question:
youtube
and here's the breakdown of the racism i found in literally just the start of the video before entirely giving up on it
the fucking title - "dunking my wifes social credit score w a glob of symbiotic ranch"
literally 0:07 - "So these people in China wanted to pay me to play this game called marvel rivals and it immediately made me suspicious. do i really wanna give China my credit card information?"
0:38 - "...fighting the urge to dump this email in the trash like the american imperialist that i am"
0:46 - "...i remembered that my wife is chinese and i already tanked her social credit score..."
0:54 - "...why not download the silly Chinese Disney game and play Cookie Clicker with my wife's financial future" (social credit score does not work like this, it affects what tier of public services you're allowed to use, not whether you can rent an apartment like it does in the us)
1:03 - "To be crystal clear, I said no to the money, because the moment I cash the sponsorship check they'd force me to delete all jokes and fun from this video..." (while showing a racist meme that says "-100,000,000,000 Social Credit / Execution Date: Tomorrow Morning") "...and it's highly likely that even making this video is gonna get my Marvel account banned for mentioning the words Taiwan, or Tibet, or Tiananmen Square..."
and the explanation i provided:
the chinese government believes that taiwan and tibet are supposed to be part of china and doesn't want them to retain their independent status
tianenmen square refers to an incident where a man carrying grocery bags confronted chinese tank drivers in the titular street; this is often associated with, "government oppression," but neglects to consider that 1. the chinese government was responding to a violent fascist mob that specifically advocated for violence and whose members publicly admitted they wanted bloodshed in post-incident interviews and 2. we have a video of the entire fucking event and the guy just peacefully walks up to the tanks, climbs on top, and just. has a chat with the tank driver before walking off. consequently tianenmen square is ironically more censored outside of china than it actually is in china and is used for sinophobia and anti-communism
the social credit score is a rating of how good of a person you are basically and has nothing to do with how the american credit score works; major tldr all chinese people are guaranteed public services but if you're a shithead who steals or is cruel to people or whatnot you can be restricted from using the nice high speed rail trains and get stuck using a basic low-speed train that takes 14 hours to get to your intended destination and can be downgraded from nice high quality housing to block housing but are fundamentally still guaranteed these rights, but this is often given false equivalence to the american credit score, which if low enough can literally ban you from buying a car or renting an apartment, forcing homelessness on you
long story short i hope this man's wife leaves him for someone who isn't a fucking racist
Man I wish it was easier to be a fan of DIY electronics/electronics repair without being racist to Chinese people
