Vet tech
Last weekend my daughter came home from college and said, "ok, this is kind of a big ask, but" and proceeded to tell me that an old cow donated to their large animal department at school had had an unexpected calf. The cow, after the semester ended, would be sold for slaughter. The calf would go as well. She wanted us to adopt the calf and raise it. My husband and I were still wrestling with this difficult question early in the week, when she sent us a message that the calf had died of natural causes.
That, frankly, was a relief. I don't really want to have a milk cow at this point; I did that while the kids were young, but it's a LOT of work. Daily, unskippable work.
Then she sent me a message that she (at the behest of a friend) had adopted a jumping spider. Set up a little terrarium for him in her dorm, "look! Here are pictures."
So, vet (and by extension vet nursing) schools cause problems, is what I'm saying. Not that the kid hasn't always been this way.

🌾🍚🧬 A new strain of rice offers hope for drought-stricken communities in Chile! Chilean scientists are trialing the “Jaspe” rice strain, described as more environmentally conscious, “less-thirsty,” and “climate-smart.” Trials have also proven the strain to be high-yield with the right growing method, producing nearly ten times more than a conventional rice field!

i already disliked my coworker because i’m constantly picking up her slack (even though i was told not to because she’s not my problem and they’re not inviting her back next season anyway)
but today she told me that chatgpt has been super helpful when writing her book about farming and sustainability
bitch is your brain a rotten walnut

totally love this: Solar panels that produce energy and water from the air.
The energy helps to extract the water which can be applied to the panels to help reduce temperatures, thereby improving energy output; or, the water can be dripped under the panels to grow crops (which also reduces temperature, in addition to providing food). OR, the water can be sent to a system for human use (needs minerals added to be safe for drinking; also may need some further decontamination to be safe to drink).
But basically the idea is that you can plop one of these down just about anywhere in the world, including extremely dry regions, and it will immediate help provide energy and drinking water. Put it over barren land, and you have an easy system for growing food.
I can envision large plots of formerly barren land, now providing electricity, food, and water. I can also see it being really helpful in developing areas, especially as the world's water crisis deepens. Really looking forward to seeing more and improved products like this.
p.s. pure water needs minerals added otherwise it messes up our cells. but minerals are just, like, bits of rock. So I'm curious if pure water can be made to drinking water more easily by putting it in the ground and letting it fill natural aquifers or wells or something like that. Maybe even a sort of specially dug "well" that aims to capture the water after it percolates through earth. I'm no expert on this. Thoughts?

What Makes a Great Agronomist? Unpacking the Traits of Agricultural Excellence
Agronomists are the unsung heroes shaping the future of farming. They’re the bridge between science and soil, the architects of abundance in a world hungry for both food and sustainability. Over the years, after sifting through hundreds of agronomist resumes and meeting countless professionals in this field, I’ve come to realize that greatness in agronomy isn’t just about a degree or a title.…

"Watching Nauman set the corner we are aware, sometimes painfully so, that the duration of an event often depends on things we cannot control, for instance, how long it takes to dig the dirt or how powerful the tools are, and how much one person can do at a time."

No cuz sorry for the long rant about to come in but what gets me about the people who say Rhea and the Church have this unrelenting ironclad control over everything in Fodlan and that she should have stayed out of the three countries' business is that they THEN get upset when she DOESN'T interfere enough!
"Why did Rhea let the Tragedy happen" "why did Rhea let the experiments happen" "why did Rhea let Adrestia force Brigid into vassalage" "why didn't Rhea give farming technique to Faerghus sooner (a Hopes invention btw)" babygirl that is what YOU PEOPLE wanted her to do!! Stay out of shit!! That is humans being allowed to make shitty judgements and do shitty things against each other or be ignorant about certain topics just like YOU PEOPLE wanted!! Which is even assuming she even COULD interfere with the shitty judgements and shitty actions in the first place, which is something THEY MAKE UP her being able to do!! God they're so annoying!!
And if Rhea HAD given Faerghus those farming techniques earlier - assuming she even HAD those techniques earlier and didn't just learn them while in Faerghus, can't remember quite how it went - they'd still make up some reason why this Nabatean is bad for helping a COUNTRY better feed itself. Probably make up something about how the NABATEANS "stole" the techniques from humans, like they do when talking about the Agarthans. If Flayn is considered evil for healing people into getting herself into a coma nothing a Nabatean does will ever get grace from these weirdos.
Nah but the way it's literally this each time 😭
Tumblr media
and it just applies to every Nabatean out there like not even Flayn is safe now
