Can the dead be brought back to life? That's the question we have always asked as Sorcerers. Could magic be pushed to its limits and be powerful enough to wake the dead and bring our loved ones back to us? That's what Grand Mage Ghastly Bespoke attempted to do on 05/04.

Through numerous methods to duplicate Darquesse's power, our scientists managed to ############ and even #####################. Skulduggery Pleasant gave us our first test subject, Lord Vile. Our experiments proved fruitful, with Lord Vile regaining his flesh and revealing #################.

After Lord Vile's success, Skulduggery Pleasant volunteered himself as a test subject so we could document how the soul would feel going through such a radical change. Pleasant ####### and he ########. His bones were #########, and scientists found out what had been keeping him together. They ###### but were interrupted by ####### ##########.

Pleasant became uncomfortable and requested to leave. This wish was granted. Days later, there were sightings and reports of Pleasant acting odd. Bugs were subtly placed in the phones of those he held close, such as Valkyrie Cain, Dexter Vex, Omen Darkly and Uther Peccant.

Darkly made contact with Cain on 20/05 and reported that his companion, Never, had been scratched by Pleasant. Never was brought in for some light testing, but scientists found nothing wrong and they were let go.

On 24/05, Nefarian Serpine made contact with Cain about getting a visit from Pleasant. He was apprehended and has proven to be a difficult subject. He has been used to create a multitude of different cures, but nothing has proven to be the true cure.

Only a day later, Darkly reported to Cain that Never had attacked him. A team was sent out immediately to find them. When they were found, Darkly's blood was found under their fingernails. And yet, Darkly has been sighted occasionally, completely unharmed. A second team was sent out to find Darkly so a cure could be made.

The same day, Dexter Vex was brought in for a scratch on his hand. No tests have been run, but he has provided several accounts of what happened and managed to get a conversation out of Pleasant, who had clearly progressed in stages.

On 29/05, Valkyrie Cain was brought in after calling Tanith about meeting Skulduggery and receiving a scratch on 26/05. She was proven to be immune to the virus and is was kept in the facility to help create a cure alongside Nefarian Serpine.

On 30/06, an interview with Never concluded that those infected seemed to take on the same mindset as Skulduggery Pleasant. They reported that they couldn't get bored and Cain later confirmed that Pleasant had spoken about how his mind worked in a similar way.

On 01/06, cameras in the #### ###### captured the sounds of Omen Darkly as he made his way through. Cleavers and the City Guard were sent out, but came back to Roarhaven empty-handed. Blood samples were found and revealed a level of divinity. Searches for Darkly have increased.

For the character building questions: I'm a Terry fan so I'd like to ask 4, 16, 25, 56 for him, but I'm also loving Cephan and Andromede so for them 3, 9, 13 and 43; also 7 for all of them just for fun (sorry for the massive ask I really love your depictions and wanna hear more about them, take your time no rush or pressure to answer <3)

Going to break this up a little bit since a long ask so:

4. What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss?

Tariesh used to be a very good with his hands as an aspirant and had a nack for crafts and quick patch jobs. He wanted to improve at this but the Larion attack basically killed all dexterity in his left arm so he gave up. He unfortunately gives up on things easily when it gets difficult.

16. What kinds of people do they have arguments with in their head?

Everyone. He always runs little makeshift scenarios in his head where he ends up being completely right and the victor and has an answer to everything. He dreams of telling the nine to shove it, or Cephan saying 'Im so sorry Tariesh you were right all along'. Even Vesiphone who he wishes he could tell her that the entire temple of purity is stupid and in his little mind arguments she balks and fumbles.

25. What subject / topic do they know a lot about that’s completely useless to the direct plot?

Just how the maw works in general but like the niche stuff. He's so used to it at this point he talks about it like it's just the normal local area. In a scene I have planned he basically uses Kleia as someone to just listen to him talk while she's imprisoned because he hasn't been able to chew anyone's ear off in so long. And just tells her things like oh yeah all the showers are broken here, and when they do work the water is either ice cold or it's the literal molten anima. And says he'll be nice (being genuine for one) and give her some or the water he gets that always tastes funny and is slightly luke warm. She asks what the alternative is and he tells her oh usually we just give the souls whatever residue falls from Maldraxus. That's usually acid. Kleia kinda feels bad for him because he does seem genuinely excited to talk to someone.

56. If they’re scared, who do they want comfort from? Does this answer change depending on the type of fear?

Cephan. Always Cephan, if Cephan can't or won't comfort him he even spirals. He's attached to Cephan in ways that are unhealthy. And if Cephan doesn't comfort him right such as tells Tariesh he's the problem, Tariesh just assumes Cephan hates him. (Hello BPDesq spiraling)

7. What would you (mun) yell in the middle of a crowd to find them? What would their best friend and/or romantic partner yell?

For me just Terry. Because I know he hates that nickname and just gotta find the 10ft tall angel person to flinch.

For Cephan it would also be Terry because he's the only one who gets away with calling him Terry and he'd perk up like a dog at the sound of Cephan's voice.

Cephan

This is sorta and over lap for me because I do try hard to focus a lot on characters expressions, tone and body language. So a lot of characters do wear their heart on their sleeve.

3. How often do they show their genuine emotions to others versus just the audience knowing?

But Cephan generally resorts to sulking and isolating himself when he's upset. It's shown clearest when he leaves the we saved the Shadowlands celebration early because he realises his job is done now. Thankfully Kleia knows him and knows where he'll go to go talk to him and explain what he should already know that Bastion just won't kick him out.

Cephan tries to give gentle love back when he was ascended. Which is what got him into this situation in the first place. He was too passive with Tariesh. And just let Tariesh do whatever because he thought it was just Tariesh things. When Cephan did accept that this was not normal and Tariesh was very clearly struggling mentally he tried to nudge Tariesh to go get help. When that didn't work he tried to intervene himself and tell Erida which caused the final straw to break.

9. Do they give tough love or gentle love most often? Which do they prefer to receive?

He needs tough love back. It's the only way to make him see he's kind of an idiot sometimes. Kleia has had to give him a telling off multiple times to make him realise his issues. Such as when he ran off to Maldraxxus.

13. When do they fake a smile? How often?

He's tried to but it doesn't work. He forgot how to smile so faking one just make him look in pain and gave it away anyways. It was usually when he didn't fully believe Kleia that he would have a place in Bastion. Which made her remind him she was the hand of Devotion u dummy.

43. If invited to a TED Talk, what topic would they present on? What would the title of their presentation be?

"Why I think Maldraxus sucks and they should clean it" and it's 2 hours long.

Honestly yelling in a crowd would do nothing for Cephan he's got APD he won't hear you. Thankfully he's missing a wing so that makes him easy to find.

Andromede

3. How often do they show their genuine emotions to others versus just the audience knowing?

Showing any emotion is genuine emotion for Andromede. She prides herself on being that perfect stoic soldier. So she keeps things close to her chest. When she's upset she's a bit more quiet and reserved. When she saw the damage the blast did to her it was the first time she'd cried in eons.

9. Do they give tough love or gentle love most often? Which do they prefer to receive?

Tough love there and back. She doesn't believe in gentle love and she doesn't recognise it when Devos gives it to her when she's at the temple of purity. She's just happy her paragon remembered her because she sees herself as pretty expendable.

13. When do they fake a smile? How often?

She never fakes a smile because she doesn't smile (it's actually kinda hard for her to do physically with half her mouth melted). But she fakes being okay every single day. She had a microscopic recovery period for her injuries because she pushed herself to return to the field. No physio, no adjustments, said everything was good and just went at it. Never tells anyone how her prosthetics chaif her skin, how the pain is still there. She's got the mindset of 'expression is weakness'. And mentally she struggles with the war being over, she struggles with Devos lying to her, she struggles with the guilt of what she did and believes she can't fix it.

43. If invited to a TED Talk, what topic would they present on? What would the title of their presentation be?

"Why the Temple of Devotion is Blasphemy and Adrestes should be cast into the Maw." It had to be cut because she would have gone for 2 days.

If you want you neck broken just say anything negative about Devos or the Forsworn or that Uther is the right leader or Nikolon should take Devos' place and she will manifest.

Devos just has to say her name and it's the sound of a dog running on tiles. She might even slip.

I can't believe you'd just drop that Rolemaster has "very unique metaphysics" and leave it like that. Could you talk a bit more about it?

So okay. At the heart of Rolemaster there's the fact that it was made by a bunch of guys who thought D&D wasn't crunchy and "realistic" enough. These people also thought that D&D clearly didn't have enough stats. They were also obsessed with symmetry. Now that I've laid the foundations, let me go further in depth:

D&D was clearly unrealistic because it only had six stats. There needed to be more. The way they decided to go about this was to divide each of D&D's stats into two pairs of closely related stats. They first paired off Strength and Constitution, and then went to work: splitting Dexterity into Agility and Quickness, Intelligence into Empathy and Reason, Wisdom into Intuition and Memory, and Charisma into Presence and Self-Discipline.

Now, at this point in time it had already been established in D&D, that Intelligence was the stat related to Magic-User and Illusionist spells (which would later come to be known in D&D as Arcane magic) and Wisdom was the stat related to Cleric and Druid spells (which would later come to be known in D&D as Divine magic). Rolemaster implemented those types of magic, calling them Essence (the "Magic-User" type magic, the rawest form of magic in the fiction of Rolemaster, its governing stat being Empathy [a really weird name for a stat that actually is, like, how well you're in tune with the world?]) and Channeling (the "Cleric" type of magic, magic that flows from the divine, and magic closely related to life, its governing stat being Intuition).

At this point one of the designers probably went "Wait a minute this fucking sucks: why isn't there a third type of magic that is governed by the Presence stat?" After the dust settled following what must have been a pretty epic brawl between Coleman Charlton and Terry Amthor, Amthor was tasked with coming up with a realm of magic tied to the third stat pair. He came back with Mentalism, which is kind of like D&D psionics, but also not really.

So okay, Rolemaster has three different realms of magic, and not only are the mechanics of how their users gain their spells explained differently and their spell lists unique, they also come with unique sets of restrictions. The flow of Essence is disturbed by dead matter, including metal and leather. That is why Essence users need to go unarmored, wearing heavy robes at most. Channeling, being the magic of life, can't flow properly through metal, so Channeling users need to eschew metal armor (which became hilarious once they introduced the Paladin profession and needed to come up with a way for the knights in shining armor to still be able to cast Channeling spells). Mentalism, being mind magic, flows from the brain, so Mentalism users can't cover their heads.

There are some other interesting specifics: in the versions of the game where they've gone even deeper into distinguishing the three realms of magic by the actual gameplay mechanics Essence users have benefited the most from flamboyant gestures, 'cause the best way to throw fireballs is to do cool firebending motions; Channeling users have benefited from SHOUTING while casting their spells, because I guess the gods can hear you better that way; and Mentalism users have been unique in that their spells require no movements or words, just thoughts.

It's wild! And this is only scratching the surface of it, because there's also stuff like the very specific demon types in Rolemaster, evil spell lists being their own thing, hybrid spell users who combine two realms of magic, and Arcane magic which is like ancient proto-magic from which all the other three types of magic come from.
