I always wondered what the boys would think if their s/o was in a band (the genre is up to you) and they have the same position in the band as the boys. This has been a thought that won’t leave me alone, help me!!
P.s I love your writings for these 5 silly men !! :)
Aww, thank you so much!! I absolutely fell in love with this prompt -- and I had an absolute blast writing it! Now I will Also be thinking about this forever, haha. Enjoy! <3
(Implied NS/FW warning for Pickles' section!)
Tumblr media
Nathan Explosion
My simple, multi-platinum krillionaire rockstar — for as much as he daydreams about what life would have been like if he got to live like a regular jack-off, it’s just not the path for him. So dating another famous lead vocalist? Right up his alley.
He actually likes it more than he thought — it’s nice to bounce lyrics off of you, and vice versa. Toying with pitch, cadence, and intonation, all the different vocal techniques without judgement of sounding silly… Your halls are always alive with the sound of music… even if the subject is about death and murder, it’s its own form of magic.
But singing at home and singing in concert are two very, very different beasts. He wasn’t prepared for how intense you could be on stage, with the band to back you up. Your confidence as you stride, growling so mean he can feel it in his blood before perking back up to bounce away? All of your little stunts? Half of him is taking notes for their next show, and half of him is utterly starstruck. Your eyes dart over to him every now and again, smiling when you notice his wide eyes. His breath hitches when you throw a little wave to him in response, and he can’t help the breathless “holy shit” that falls from his lips.
You’re not as popular as Dethklok, but you couldn’t tell that from inside the venue walls — with how easily you command the crowd, he’s certain you were a siren in a past life. Or now. You could tell everyone in this room to jump off a bridge, and they would, he’s certain of it.
That would make a good song, actually…
Tumblr media
Pickles the Drummer
Pickles has a pretty sizable repertoire of instrument proficiency — bass, guitar, keys… a brief stint with an alto sax, as a bit… and currently, drums. He’s got a soft spot in his heart for all of it, each instrument representing a specific era of his life, but he’s found himself enjoying the drums the most. It’s strong, supportive — every song needs a beat! It takes a specific personality to play drums well, and it’s one that he both embodies within himself, and covets when in others.
This is all to say — he finds it very hot that you play drums.
And as a man who appreciates a nice set of legs, he very much likes the effects drumming has on your calves. Your calves might be sore after a long practice session, but that’s nothing compared to the bites he’ll leave later in the night.
He also loves to watch you play — sweat rolling down the column of your throat as you raise your hands above your head for another well-timed strike, lost in the rhythm… Woof.
You’ve kind of gotta beat him back with a stick while on tour if you ever want to go out for drinks after a show — if he had it his way, he’d be spending the post-concert glow in the hotel, letting you know just how much he liked your performance.
Tumblr media
Skwisgaar Skwigelf
Anyone looking in would assume this would be a point of competition, but he actually really loves having someone he can talk technical with! Despite being in Dethklok, he doesn’t really get to talk guitar often — Toki, Murderface, and Pickles can play, sure, but the former two don’t give a fuck about technique, and Pickles just doesn’t care about it enough to chat about it outside of the studio.
He loves hearing about all of the little musical decisions you’ve contributed to in each song — don’t think he didn’t catch the time signature change there. Just a single bar, why? Or this section here, that was a reprise of the first song in the album — how are they connected? He catches all the little details, and he wants to know all about them. In this same vein, he’s also great to bounce ideas off of when you’re in a rut… but be careful! His ideas are damn-good, and at this rate, he might just need a spot in the writer’s credits.
It’s very fun to just sit down and jam with him, passing the melody back and forth as your improvised tune grows. He calls it practice — and in a sense, it is — but really, he just likes playing with you.
He pushes to have your tours alternate with Dethklok’s so he can be at all of your shows, and vice versa — you have his full attention during your solos, and he’s not above slapping the boys to get them to shuts up so he can hear you in all of your glory.
He’s pretty stationary on stage — such is the downside of working with a bunch of uncoordinated dumbasses. (He is not exempt from this.) But if you have the agility and focus to bounce around on stage while playing? Oh, he didn’t think he could fall in love any further. He didn’t think he was capable of being starstruck, but you’ve proven him wrong tenfold. He’ll happily brave a couple thousand rabid fans for the pit experience — sorry to all the people stuck behind his towering self, but being backstage is nothing compared to barrier. The flashing lights, choking fog and towering flames only make you look more beautiful than ever, and he can’t help but reach out to you when you waggle your fingers at the crowd.
Personally offended if you don’t throw him at least one pick on tour. He does not care that he is 1.) Dating you, and 2.) Has limitless access to your stash. It’s the principle.
You wear each other’s picks on necklaces <3
Tumblr media
Toki Wartooth
You play rhythm too? Wowee! You’re so good, though — how are you not playing solos?
He is completely gobsmacked by the fact that not only are you not the lead guitarist, but that you don’t care to be, either. I mean, he has Skwisgaar to compete against — and as loathe as he is to say it, it’s a pretty fucking high bar to surpass. But you? You could easily play lead! You just don’t want to? What?
He doesn’t really get it, but he writes it off as just you being humble. Beyond that, your similarity doesn’t really play too big of a role in your shared lives! But when concert season rolls around, he’s insistent about hanging out at barrier, just so he can see what it’s like to be at one of your shows. And then, then, that’s when he gets it.
You never seem to stand still, bouncing this way and that, playing in ways he never even thought possible. You don’t need to play solos to wow the crowd — hell, he’s been practically raised by the most popular band in the world, but with you in front of him now, he feels like just another one of your adoring fans itching at the chance to even be seen. Nobody cheers louder than Toki, and he’s insistent on going to each and every one of your shows.
After show from here on out he’ll interlock hands with you, congratulating you on yet another show well-done. He traces the callouses on your fingertips, heart swelling with giddiness at dating such a badass guitarist.
Tumblr media
William Murderface
Finally, someone else who appreciates a good bass line. A band is nothing without the bass, especially metal, and it’s nice to talk to someone else who understands that. Especially after being AJFA’d out off all their most recent albums.
Playing bass is a very thankless job — you have to support the entire band, giving them structure and direction without any of the thanks that the rhythm guitar or the drums get. The most, and I mean the most that he gets, is a solo at the end of the show. Which is fun, but you know… it’s very much a job that you take because you love the big picture, not the details.
That’s his point of view, anyways. Because the second he sees you in-show, his whole world gets flipped on his head.
You have a very confident poise on stage — unshakeable, much like the deep notes that you pluck from the instrument. And yet, you command attention from the crowd effortlessly. It’s like you were made for this — all long strides and sneaky smiles as you move around on stage. And despite the eccentricity of your fellow bandmates — a very energetic show, he’s noticed — you still draw a sizable amount of attention from the packed arena, and man does he wish he was in the pit right now so he could get that sly little smile head-on. And huh, maybe bass can be fun, after all.
He loves to brag about you, and will do so at any opportunity.
After seeing your prowess on stage, he starts practicing a bit outside of concert season… and then more, and more, until he finally feels ready enough to fight to get the bass turned up in the next Dethalbum. Thanksch, babe.

“i’m not iron man, i’m EVIL iron man. Instead of helping people, i DONT help them. I drown them.” -alto sax section
(during our marching band show we got to have these lights we velcro to our chests and it can go in different colors, white, red, green, and blue. So we would start out as white and the switch to red when we became evil iron man)

marching band au is back :D
hiii all this is how i’m coping with finals week next week
this is more hbg but the mores and ranked runners are in the works :3
the members who do dci (fein, couri, reign, silverr) get HYPER competitive with each other about it. silverr and reign’s corp outplaced fein and couri’s 3 competitions in a row this past season and they’re never gonna live it down
doog is also in dci and his corp tends to get first to the chagrin of the others. he plays the quad drums but is pretty proficient on most brass instruments or other percussion
it’s well known that if you don’t know where you need to be, you find mime. you don’t find your section leader, you don’t find the drum major, you find mime. he somehow knows every single member’s drill
the drum line is pretty well known for having fun and goofing around, but there isn’t a section in the band that locks in harder when competition is soon. fein is a chill leader but he runs them like a well oiled machine towards the end of season
raddles is a part of the drum line as a cymbal player. cymbals have a lot of flashy moves they can pull off and she usually helps direct their choreography. she plays cowbell in basketball pep band
fyroah is apart of the sideline percussion (group of people who don’t march but play larger immobile instruments on the sidelines such a marimba, gong, timpani). he plays a lot of different instruments here but is primarily on keyboard
nerdi was a clarinet player before becoming drum major. last years show had a killer clarinet trio with switch on E flat clarinet, nerdi on regular B flat, and fulham on bass clarinet
speaking of fulham, there’s a stereotype that band kids don’t actually care about the sporting events they play at, for fulham that is NOT the case. he’s lost his voice cheering on the football team before. he and fein know all the team’s play signals by heart. mime and oliver know the same but for the basketball team
dylan used to do dci but didnt like that they’d only let him play trombone for the odd solo
couri knows at least one person in every other band. be it through dci or other means
this is more regular band than marching, but reign, fein, and silverr compete with a trio performance during solo and ensemble every year
oliver is bass 5 aka the biggest bass drum. he’s responsible for keeping a steady simple beat underneath the band alongside fein. bass 5 is the heart of tempo in any band. he’s also occasionally drum set player for basketball pep band
i’m saying their band works like mine aka rather than having the tenor saxes paired with the altos, they’re actually in a section with the baritones since they have similar parts (aka mime and silver are in the same section rather than mime and reign)
that being said the following people are in the same sections:
drumline: fein, rad, doog, oliver
clarinets: fulham, switch, formerly nerdi
tenors/baritones (my band calls them tenortones): mime, silverr
altos: reign, danny
trombones: dylan, nemerald
color guard: cube, zylenox, fruit
that’s all i’ve got for now and omg i wish i could draw them

Ok ok im probably not ever gonna end up doing anything with the marhcing band au but amber would play mellophone (or trumpet if the badn didnt have enough) as much as i woudl want her to play the same instrument as me for self indulgemnt reaons i can not imagine her playing somehting thats not brass. Also i cant imagine syau being band at all but like,,,,, what if we put her on bass 5 guys… tiny guy sayu walking around with ginormuous bass drum…. It would be so funny but also i really dont think she could carry that but whatever i dont care let me be insane for a second. She could also be in pit playing, like, idk the rack or something… hmmmmm
My school is a pretty small school so we dont have that many different instruments also im a wind player so my knowledge of the pit and percusison in general is pretty limited but anwyas
Ok since i really dont pay that much atteniton to inazuma characters that much were gonna pull from my syau boat fic and put sayu in mond territory so i dont have to figure out what all the inazuma peoples insturments are
Definitely feel free to correct me on what these guys would do if you actually read this because i am an expert of 0 characters
Kaeya and eula would defintely be guard, ii could also imagine mika being guard cause reconaissance company but honestly i didnt pay that much attention to him either so idk. Jean drum major obviously but in concert or if we dont make her drum major she would be flute :) venti flute or maybe in the pit playing mallets or someitng lisa., pit. Idk what but i dont think she would be marhcing, uhhhhhhh noelle. Low brass something. Tuba or baritone. Or maybe in battery as bass drum. Sucrose, upper woodwinds, either flute or clarinet, probably clarinet maybe. Albedo. Looks like a pit person. Mallets. I guess. Razor low brass probably, or marching cymbals?? Idk we dont have those at my school so idk, i can defintely see it though. Bennett is trumpet probably fischl is guard, rosaria would be guard too? Barbara would be pit piano or upper woodwinds….. i cnat think of anyone else besides klee and diona but idk if were gonna count them, if we do klee in trumpet maybe and diona in pit on mallets. That being said if this really is eveyrone in mondstadt we’re definitely gonna need more poeple which would be fine but also i dont pay attention to most or hte character so i wouldnt know what they would play……

wtf... persona 3 marching band AU???
Tumblr media
Context under the cut because there's a LOT behind this...
Okay. Background.
Last month I had to fly across the country for marching band. We had a two day trip where we flew to the opposite side of the country on a 5 hour flight and then immediately had to perform and play for a football game. The very next morning we had to fly back home on another 5 hour flight. All in all. It was 46 hours. Call time was 3:30 am so I had to wake up at 2 am the day of. I could not sleep on the plane and due to Issues with the rooming situation, I elected to sleep curled up in a wooden chair. I did not sleep for more than 15 minutes at a time that night. I also could not sleep on the plane ride back. On the way back, I was so exhausted and sleep deprived, I was insanely nauseous and so, so dehydrated. I had a pounding headache that wouldn't go away and I kind of hated literally everything.
Do you guys know that specific genre of fanart where people draw their favorite characters working like shitty minimum wage jobs as a way of coping with their own shitty minimum wage jobs? Yeah. Same idea here. I came up with marching band headcanons for p3-5 characters and it was comforting to be quite honest. It also filled up the time on that flight. Now that the season is over, I'm getting like marching band withdrawal so I wanted to draw out some of these headcanons. I put way too much thought into these, but here are the headcanons for the p3 crew lmao:
Minato - Pit, Bass Guitar: I figured he wouldn't really be a big fan of marching but would still want to play music so pit seemed like a good fit. Bass guitar specifically was just based off of Vibes.
Kotone - Trumpet Section Leader: Maybe it's because she's the MC but idk, trumpet just seemed to fit and I felt like she'd be section leader on top of that.
Yukari - Piccolo: Okay. This one PAINED me because irl I hate the piccolo section at my school. They're so annoying and so impressively united in being consistently and confidently WRONG. But I have to admit, Yukari unfortunately has piccolo energy. She's still my fave idc.
Junpei - Trombone: He just had to be low brass, c'mon. He's definitely also the kind of guy to call himself a "boner."
Akihiko - Color Guard Section Leader: My first inclination was trumpet. However, I remembered a guy in color guard at my school who's very much a gym bro and takes guard WAY too seriously. Yeah. That made me assign Akihiko to color guard. Probably played trumpet in middle school though.
Mitsuru - Drum Major, formerly Alto Saxophone: She obviously had to be drum major, no question about it. Idk why really I decided on alto saxophone though, I just felt that she wouldn't be a brass player and sax fit the best outside of that.
Fuuka - Pit, Vibraphone: Same reasoning as Minato but I feel like she'd fw vibraphone specifically idk why. Lowkey this one is also vaguely based off the personality of someone in my school's marching band.
Aigis - Mellophone: I feel like she'd be a brass player but definitely not low brass and also not trumpet. Hence, the mellophone. It also did occur to me that maybe playing a reed instrument as a robot that like probably doesn't have salivary glands would be ummm, difficult to say the least.
Ken - Percussion: Okay so, he's not in high school so he would be in like concert band for middle school instead. He seems like he'd gravitate towards percussion but like he would actually take it seriously as opposed to the average middle school percussionist who just screws around in the back of the band room while the director talks to the wind section. If he were in high school, center snare.
Shinjiro - Baritone: Had to be low brass. I also considered sousaphone, but baritone I felt was a better choice. I feel like he probably only did band in middle school because Akihiko decided to do it and then Akihiko switched to guard in high school but Shinjiro just figured "I already play this fuckass euphonium, might as well march with the baritone."
Ryoji - Trumpet or Pit, Drum Set: I figured he would join whatever section the MC was in, hence the two different choices here.
Chidori - Clarinet: Just pretend she's also in high school. Umm anyways, definitely a woodwind player but piccolo/flute and sax just didn't fit. As someone who plays the clarinet, just trust me on this one.
Umm anyways, I might draw more of these for p4 and p5, but we'll see. I'm cringe, but I'm free <3

what instruments hq characters would play in a regular concert band setting (coming from an unbiased! fair! reasonable! flute player)
word count - 1,728 words
warnings - none besides band kid energy :( also no proofread
a/n - in honor of marching season starting again. thank god i'm never doing that again, but hopefully i can nail my upcoming audition!! i am NOT open to discussion and critiques btw my word is absolute law. (lol just jokes and if you have any suggestions to add pls let me know i will happily add them in)
Tumblr media
picc/flute - usually the best behaved kids (force of habit bc they sit next to the conductor so they have to be on their best behavior). for the most part pretty nice, but they definitely are the biggest gossipers...WILL talk abt anything and everything. from the weather to the crazy ex that your stand partner blocked but can't shut up abt. there's always someone in the section who just has everything in their bag - gum (which we can't even chew in band??), hand sanitizer, vaseline, aquaphor, lotion, etc. definitely the most blind and deaf group bc of how out of tune we always are, and how many ledger lines are in the music. usually chill for the most part, but there's always That One Player that is way to snotty and stuck up abt band like bro chill out u don't need to be so competitive. chaotic good.
SUGA and is able to talk some mad shit and is highkey deaf (same) but is a wonderful role model for the younger section members. SUNAAA this mf is always on his phone in rehearsal and gets in trouble for it,  shirabu💀💀 takes chair auditions way too seriously and side eyes his stand partner too much
Tumblr media
clarinet - section that has the most amount of stereotypical "band kids" but honestly pretty nice. most of them are hard workers and studious? competition is pretty tough in such a huge section so they are kinda tryhards. not too introverted but not like super loud or anything. a really "in the middle" section i would say, and def one of the most diverse sections bc it has so many members in it. firsts definitely are  always on their a game in terms of music and academics, but the further back u go in rows, the more chatty and chaotic they get. neutral good.
tsukki and yams omfg..tsukki is def clarinet 1 and yams clarinet 2 (but grinding so he can sit next to tsukki next year), maddog (ok doesn't really fit at all but i think it's hilarious imaging him as clarinet), yahaba (which does fit), kunimi, futakuchi (and those 4 whisper so much in the back), aran BUT i feel like he plays sax for jazz and prefers sax more, would play sax in concert too but competition is STIFF so just plays clarinet, kenma and he's in the back and super unassuming, always on his phone playing a game in between reps, komori and he's first clarinet and is perfect and the conductor loves him
Tumblr media
double reeds (bassoon, oboe, eng horn, i'm putting bari clarinet in here except i don't think it's technically a double reed) - SOOO KIND AND STUDIOUS AND PRETTY. everyone wants to be them or their friend. i've literally never had a band interaction with anyone from the double reed section. always appreciate any gossip, and since they're friends with so many ppl, they kinda know everyone's business but they keep it to themselves. also highkey cracked at their instruments for no reason like there is not that much competition in a regular band, they're just sexy like that. lawful good.
asahi (bari clari) (also always underestimates how much air it takes to play contra and hates it), YACCHI (oboe), kiyoko (bassoon, sits next to yacchi and they're constantly exchanging gossip with each other in between reps), akaashi (bassoon, literally in the center of band and everyone can look at him and get a crush)
Tumblr media
saxes (soprano [does anyone even like playing the metal clarinet let's be fr], alto, tenor, bari) - ok if you're good at the sax you're INSANELY. GOOD. it's so competitive bc there's so few spots in a concert band setting so if you want to get a high chair placement u gotta grind ur ass off. definitely some of the biggest try hards in the band, even moreso than the clarinets, and also academically they're like always in all advanced classes and shit for no reason. lowkey kind of cocky and full of themselves but u kinda let it slide bc they're so insanely good it's kinda warranted yk? pretty introverted and keep to themselves, but never exclude anyone. lowkey has the most rizz out of all the sections, but they don't try to be charismatic they just kinda are and everyone kinda hates them for it. lawful neutral.
kuroo...he gives such alto vibes sorry for the slander. i feel like yaku too bc they're constantly competing with each other? maybe bari? lol the instrument is like as big as him. kai is the chill tenor in between them that try's to break up verbal fights before the conductor notices, DAISHOU him and kuroo has been competing for first chair since 5th grade
Tumblr media
trumpet - convinced they're the main character (they have repeating staccato 8th notes) like PLS lower ur volume. kinda cocky but this time it isn't warranted bc they're not as good as the saxes. firsts are CONSTANTLY trying to see who can go higher during warmups and it pisses everyone else off but we all reluctantly tolerate their presence...bc when they DO have the melody they kinda slay (albeit a bit sharp). pretty extroverted and nice with such enjoyable energy like u kinda can't help but become friends with at least some of them. when the rest of the concert band first saw the jazz band play, everyone kind of got a small crush on the lead trumpet player bc he was that good (hahah not me nooo never aha). neutral chaotic.
hinata...except this time he is the main character. inuoka, miya atsumu, oikawa!! technically he should be in the next section with kags, but oikawa fits trump jazz lead too much (also never made all state...sorry not sorry), mattsun and hanamaki and they're the biggest chatters (the conductor hates them), BOKUTO he's so loud but we all love him, hoshiumi
Tumblr media
french horn - the It Girl of the band. horn is one of if not the hardest wind instruments to learn. a sharp learning curve fs, but a good horn player is GOOD. insanely freaking good. and also critical in any concert setting and has such a beautiful sound when played correctly. when not played well though...since there's so few horns already in a band, it's really hard to let others in ur section carry you. so if you're not good...everyone can kinda tell. thing is, saxophone is different bc there's so few chairs, but it's at least an easy instrument to play (hard to get good at tho) but horn is just hard period. get grinding or face the embarrassment. tbh kinda secluded, really only talked amongst themselves and the saxes bc they had similar parts and sat next to each other. i never once interacted with a horn player. neutral good.
kageyama (except he's good duh), sakusa (also very good), hirugami (he never looks happy whenever he gets solos tho and nobody knows why..?)
Tumblr media
trombone - oh dear...ok i lied THEYRE the most band kid-ish of all the band kids, not the clarinets. pretty nice and funny, loud and never shut up like the trumpets and they get away with it bc they sit in the last row. not bad people at all, they just kinda act like ur younger siblings sometimes, not like kids in ur age range. not as charming as the trumpets, but instead have this childlike innocence to them so u just wanna pinch their cheeks or something. pitch is a huge issue, and anything rhythmically harder than like a couple 16ths and they can't tongue it clearly, but u applaud them for trying. chaotic chaotic.
koganegawa, TANAKA AND NOYA AS STAND PARTNERS OMG they're constantly disturbing the rehearsals bc they laugh too loud, yamamoto, lev
Tumblr media
euph/tuba - technically 2 different instruments i know, but i'm running out of ideas and combined their section total is like 5 ok cut me some slack. actually so sweet and nice, they have no enemies like the double reeds, but this time they're like isolated in the back row :( so they kinda only talk with each other and sometimes the trombones. even tho they also sit in the back the most they do is whisper quietly amongst themselves, WHEN THE CONDUCTOR ISNT TALKING TO THEM. bless their hearts. theyre always in the background of every piece, and a regular audience member doesn't really notice them, but anyone who plays an instrument knows they're the most important part of the band. always the root of the chord, almost always keep the pulse with quarter or eighths, everyone tunes to the tuba. classic, standard, we love them. i fear one day they're going to absolutely snap and go crazy tho bc at the end of the day, they're still a brass player sitting all the way in the back, which is a lawless land. lawful chaotic.
daichi, ushijima, kita, aone (it's just the unassuming defensive players lol), miya osamu!! always ready to fight his brother right before a concert
Tumblr media
percussion - what...goes on back there? nobody's quite sure, except for them and the occasional trombone player sitting in front of them. they're constantly running around trying to get to their instruments in time, and they always make it somehow. always the tightest sections rhythmically, i swear they can sight read anything perfectly and have it performance ready by the 2nd day. friendly with everyone else, but they're lowkey like a cult bc they spend so much time together with drumline camp, band camp, etc. by far the crowd favorite during parades, pep rallies, etc. but they never let it go to their heads. always have matching section shirts and hats and whatnot on dress up days and it's so cute, but their hats are always crazy like giant squid plushies and ikea bucket hats and whatnot. neutral chaotic everyoje loves them for it.
tendou (he has the squid hat) (also nobody believes him when he says he doesn't know how to read rhythms but it's true, he highkey doesn't know how to subdivide and guesses everything but is always pretty accurate), iwa (he goes shirtless in band camp and everyone is audibly drooling), semi (on drumkit for jazz but also does concert to keep his rhythms sharp), ofc jack of all trades, master of none konoha since u have to play so many different instruments

My Very ‘Me Specific’ Harvey Headcanons
-Marching band nerd in high school. Marched tenor sax, played both tenor and alto sax in jazz band.
-Low reeds section leader three years in a row.
-Jazz and marching band in college!! Had to drop both in his first year of post grad studies due to school scheduling though.
-Also proficient in clarinet, trumpet, soprano and bass sax, and a bit of oboe.
-Used to make his own reeds too, but he’s forgotten how to at this point.
-I like to imagine that all the years of band gave him good pitch and that he’s actually a pretty good singer.
-Absolutely loves jazz music! (This is just canon tbh.)
-Taught himself a bit of swing dancing in what little downtime he had in college.
-Refuses to tell anyone about any of his more musically inclined hobbies. You’d literally have to pry this information out of his cold dead hands.
-The only reason the Farmer finds out about this is because Harvey keeps a picture of him in is high school band uniform as well as his college one on his desk with his radio equipment. It would definitely catch their eye the first time they’re invited into his living space.

Newsies Marching/Concert/Jazz Band Au
This has been sitting in my notes app for ages and I had the brilliant idea to post it here. These are heavily based on my own experiences in band if you couldn’t tell by how wildly specific some of these headcanons are!
Jack: He. Is. A. Trumpet. Player. I don’t make the rules here. Definitely the type of kid to challenge others to “who can play louder” or “who can play higher” and proceeds to blow out everyone’s ears. He gets an earful from Davey, Katherine and the band director.
Davey: I was like “what the nerdiest instruments this loser can play” and was like CLARINET (and then remembered I play clarinet) This kid can play hard-ass riffs like there’s no tomorrow, it’s actually terrifying. He makes it look easy. The others make fun of him but all agree that without him the upper woodwinds would be a disaster.
Les: Davey’s little brother that is always at rehearsal for some reason. He’s around so much he’s basically their unofficial mascot. He carries the school banner haha get it? and water bottles during parades.
Katherine: Definitely the drum major during marching season. She’s really organized and the boys are all low-key scared of her too, so that’s a bonus. She plays the tenor and soprano sax in concert band.
Crutchie: Mallet percussion! He can’t March but man this kid can bang out rhythms on the xylophone and marimba! The others jeer at him and call him “SIDELINES” we do that to our mallet percussion but it’s all in good fun.
Race: ALTO SAX PLAYER. He does not stop playing Careless Whisper, he has no shame. They’ll be practicing drill and then *CARELESS WHISPER* “SHUT UP RACE, I SWEAR TO GOD”. He’s one of the alto section leaders with Finch, but no one knows how because this boy does nothing but goof off? He’s mainly the morale portion of the section while Finch does the actual house keeping stuff, but he’s not that good at it either. Needless to say, the alto section is hanging on by a thread.
Albert: Definitely a trombone player. Knows all the big memes and can play them on command. Despite all the joking around he does (with Race) he’s actually a fantastic player and does killer solos in jazz band. He can rip the paint off the walls with how loud he can play.
Finch: As I said above, an alto player and section leader. He’s low-key done with Race after spending years sitting next to him in band class and half the time you see him he’s on the collapse of a breakdown. But he loves his section as much as he jokes otherwise. He just wishes Race would stop playing Careless Whisper, but we can’t have everything, can we?
Elmer: Also a trombone player. He’s normally trombone two, but he’s totally chill with it, he likes the harmony parts. Also knows many memes he can play on command and he and Albert duet a lot of them from across the field. Like, they’re on separate ends and just BLASTING the Wii theme across the football field. Everyone hates it almost as much at they hate Race playing Careless Whisper.
Jojo: Alto player. No one knows why this kid isn’t the section leader because he’s so good with the section and already does a good portion of the responsibilities. Kids come into band being like “oh yeah, isn’t Jojo the alto section leader?” And are shocked to find out no it’s Race and Finch????? My boy doesn’t take any credit and says he’s just trying to be helpful, bless his heart.
Buttons: Flute player! Don’t have a lot of good parts in marching band but that doesn’t bother him because he gets a lot of the pretty melodies in concert band.
Specs: Plays flute for concert band but since he doesn’t get a lot of good parts, he plays trumpet for marching and jazz band. Section leader for both and is super good at keeping people on task. He’s like the tired parentTM with dealing with his sections (particular the trumpets *cough cough* Jack)
Romeo: Plays the flute. He’s the flute player that complains about how his arms hurt from holding his flute up for SooOoOoooOoOOoo long while the drum line is just deadpanning at him like “you’re kidding me, right?” Whines about the runs he needs to play but gets mad when people suggest he just changes instruments if he hates it so much.
Tommy Boy: DRUMMER TOMMY BOY DRUMMER TOMMY BOY DRUMMER TOMMY BOY!!!!! Plays the quints for marching. He plays a variety of instruments for concert band but he’s really good at the timpani. He 100% plays the drum kit for jazz band. He’s so good at keeping the band grounded, definitely lives up to the “heartbeat of the band”.
Mike & Ike: I hate putting them together because they are two different people, but they need to be together for this head canon. Both play tenor in marching, concert and jazz band. Both tenor one in marching and concert but weirdly enough, no one knows who’s tenor one in jazz band? They both know the tenor one and tenor two parts to all of their songs and just switch day to day, song to song and everyone’s like ???????? But they think it’s funny and they’re both good players so the band director doesn’t care.
Mush: Tenor sax! He plays it for both marching and concert band but plays the electric guitar for jazz band on account that the twins are already the two tenor players and he’s pretty good at it. Definitely a section leader, total sweetheart and gets along with mostly everyone, even the twins, though they do drive him up the wall at times.
Kid Blink: Bari sax player. Honks on those low notes and CARRIES Seven Nation Army. There are times where he alone can over power most of the band and is told to back off. Does amazing solos in jazz band as well.
Henry: Trombone player. Really done with Albert, Elmer and Sniper’s shenanigans. Probably the section leader even though he’s not the best player, just because the other would probably abuse their authority. Poor kid normally spends rehearsal thinking about food and wanting to leave because Albert has been play the Wii theme for fifteen minutes now. His instrument probably also has some nasty shit stuck in it because he eats before and during rehearsal. Gross.
Smalls: Piccolo player for marching band, flute/piccolo player for concert band and plays the electric/upright bass for jazz band (idk why, it just feels right) The upright bass is like twice the size of them but man can they pluck out those bass rhythms. Likes to play stupidly high with their piccolo and poor Romeo and Buttons who sit next to them are just wincing every rehearsal and come out of it deaf from the shrillness.
Sniper: Trombone player. Completes the unholy trio that is the chaotic trombones. Probably going to give Henry a migraine at some point, they are the type of trombone player to try to balance their instrument on their head (if you know what I’m talking about). Knows all the harmonies to the memes Albert and Elmer play just to piss everyone off a little more.
Spot: Drum major for Brooklyn, no questions asked. Do you see the way he cuts off the Newsies at the rally drum major style???

QSMP characters in high school marching band:
Quackity is 100% the alto sax kid who got kicked out of the clarinet section because they had too many clarinets and needed more saxes on the field. He doesn’t have any friends in the section, but that’s fine, friends just disappoint him
Jaiden is second trumpet during marching season, but she runs the vibes for indoor percussion during concert season. During water breaks she’s on the vibes playing fnaf fan songs and t posing
Spreen is that one trombone kid who isn’t there for half the season because he somehow got into DCI and every time he shows up for a football game all he does is brag about how he has a guaranteed spot with the Bluecoats next season
Cellbit is the clarinet section leader and he runs that shit like the U.S. navy. He has a one-sided grudge against the band director, Cucurucho, and he purposefully doesn’t tune before practice starts just to piss Cucurucho off
Roier is that one kid who plays every brass instrument but decides to stick with the trombone just so he can make boner jokes. He helps Jaiden practice her trumpet so she can try and make first trumpet next year, but also he’s been trying to get her to switch to low brass for two years now because like fuck the trumpets
Baghera is the flute section leader, and she spends half of practice goofing off with the other flutes and blaming the clarinets (aka Cellbit) for missed sets. Her seat during concert season is right in front of Mx. Cucurucho and she will always play just a bit too loud to piss them off and she will always play it off as an accident
Pac and Mike are the band’s only mellophone players and they will make that everybody’s problem. They’re the kids who show up with an entire bag full of contraband instrument maintenance equipment (stolen out of Mx. Cucurucho’s office) to every football game and competition and they will lock Mx. Cucurucho on the bus to keep it from interfering
Forever is the drum major during marching season, but during concert season he’s first chair tuba. During slow moments he will just sit on the podium and film Cellbit making stupid faces into his clarinet and post them on his private snap, and those photos somehow always make it onto the end-of-season official band slideshow without fail. Somehow
