#Thinking about Steve and Nancy hours

After the events of season four in a world where Vecna dies a minute earlier, Eddie lives, and Max gets away with a broken arm and some vision loss, Nancy and Steve start spending a lot of time together.
Everyone assumes that since Nancy and Johnathan broke it off not long after they reunited, having found themselves on different paths, the two of them were naturally drifting back together. Some of the kids are even betting among themselves on whether or not they're actually already back together and trying to keep in on the down low while everyone heals.
What really happened was that Nancy showed up on Steve's doorstep one day and asked if she could come in. She was nervous and it showed in the way she pinched her brow and rubbed her intex finger over her thumb nail but still made direct, almost aggressive eye contact with the man in front of her. Steve was worried that she was, indeed, here to confess which...wouldn't have been the worst thing, just not the right thing.
Instead what she says, directly and to the point despite her nerves, is that she's sorry if she led him on during their last time in the Upsidedown. She tells him that while she did feel a remnant of that old flame between them, it was ultimately a flicker in comparison to the forest fire of complicated emotions building up inside her for someone completely new. Someone completely unexpected. She looks genuinely mournful for having to tell him this, but all Steve can really feel is relief.
Steve had felt it too, and for a moment there it had really felt like their time had finally come. It felt like all the hurting and the fighting and the miscommunications and the missed chances were all leading them to this climactic moment during their last stand where they could begin their epic love story all over again. But then suddenly all he could think about between the blood and fear was eyes deep and dark like the forest floor after a long rain and the fleeting feeling of cool silver on his sore shoulders. He tells her that it's ok because he found someone new and unexpected too.
After that night they find a new kind of kinship that they always reached for but never could attain with all the history between them. They start meeting up as often as they can for late-night talks. Once Steve returns from his work at the shelter and visiting Eddie in the hospital and Nancy's parents come back to relieve her of babysitting duties while they help rebuild the town they meet at Steve's house. They avoid the back patio at all costs, instead deciding to set up lawn chairs out front to face the empty street, all of Steve's neighbors having fled with the first tremors.
They drink and talk for hours about all the mistakes they made, apologizing for all the ways they hurt each other in their youth in the days when they knew how to hurt but not how to heal. They talk about the life they could have had if things had been different. They talk about jobs and white picket fences and children and all the ways they would have been happy but not content. It should be awkward, and sad, and uncomfortable. And it is. But more than that it's cathartic, and by the end they are closer than they've ever been and fully ready to move onto the next phases of their lives as close friends.
They also spend quite a bit of time after the heaviest topics have run their course trying to help each other woo their respective crushes. Robin came out to the group not long after Will returned. She decided that it was time for her to claim the "most coveted of all Queer positions, Steve. The Queer Mentor!" and that being in the closet with their friends was antithetical to her cause. Steve argued that he was her first pupil already, but she claimed that his gay crisis was so minuscule that it hardly deserved the name. He came out a fully formed bisexual man. Steve wasn't 100% sure about Eddie, but there were enough rumors about him that he felt comfortable at least shooting his shot. Eddie was a good guy and he was so happy when Robin came to his room to share her coming out with him since he'd missed the bigger announcement.
All that is to say that they were both ready and willing to start pursuing their respective targets. They made game plans and tried to come up with date-but-not-really-a-date ideas for them to test the waters.
Meanwhile, Eddie and Robin both separately decide that they need to help push Nancy and Steve into the relationship everyone sees on the horizon. Steve is and always will be Robin's number one and she knows better than anybody how hung up he was on Nancy for literal years. She knows they hang out just the two of them and despite Steve dodging her attempts to figure out what it is they meet up about if they're not already together, she's pretty sure they're just taking things slow. The fact that her tummy feels all warm whenever Nancy Wheeler walks into the room is inconsequential to her far greater goal of Make Steve Happy. It sure would help if she would stop looking up at Robin from beneath her lashes like that though. Those eyes are killer.
Eddie, on the other hand, has felt some kind of way about Steve for the entirety of their not-quite acquaintance. It began with a sweet crush in grade school that developed into spiteful teenage lust and then back into a less sweet but much more robust crush following the not-so-end of the world. But all of those feelings are null and void in the face of the rapidly approaching epilogue of Steve and Nancy's epic si-fy/fantasy romance. He saw the way they looked at each other on their journey and he meant it when he said what Nancy had done jumping in that lake was a show of love. It feels almost poetic that he ended up doing the same thing, just a little too late to really matter. But despite the way Steve's visits seem to soothe the ache in his bones better than any opioid or cold compress, Eddie is going to do his damnedest to lead those two sheep in the right direction. It would be a heck of a lot easier if Steve could pick a shirt to wear in his own damn size, though. Those arms really were begging for release.

Steddie where Steve and Eddie find out their friends are running a betting pool on when the two of them are going to start dating.
Everybody is placing bets. Everybody.
(Hopper believes they’ll be together before Halloween, Joyce is betting on Thanksgiving. Karen Wheeler is betting on New Year’s eve.)
It’s Robin who lets the information slip, of course. Eddie is pissed, but Steve sees an opportunity there. What if they pretend they’re dating? Robin can place a new bet, they pretend they are a couple somewhere the Party can see them, then they get the money and split it between the three of them.
“How much money are we talking about?” Eddie asks.
“Last time I checked, five hundred dollars. But I think Erica, Nancy and Will placed new bets last week, so it’s probably more now. Dustin is the one in charge of the money.”
“Of course he is.”
Robin ends up placing a bet on Steve and Eddie getting together in less than a month. Dustin is surprised when she tells him that, and also suspicious about Robin’s change of heart; her last bet had been they wouldn’t be together until next year.
“They’re worse than ever, kid,” she justifies when Dustin questions her about it. “Last night we were watching a movie at Steve’s and he spent the whole night basically on Eddie’s lap. I thought he was gonna start purring because Eddie kept petting his hair like he was a giant cat. There’s no way they’re taking too long now; they are not that dumb.”
Dustin could argue but ends up accepting Robin’s excuse. The bet is placed and she gets back to Eddie’s to inform her friends her part on the plan is done.
“Now you have a month to decide how you’re gonna do this,” she says before leaving those two to their shenanigans.
But that’s not a problem, they already know how they’re gonna get that money.
There’s a carnival coming to Hawkins in two weeks, and there’s no way the kids won’t be there, stuffing their faces with enough greasy food that would make a normal person sick to their stomach and wasting their money on games.
Two weeks and a half later, Dustin tries to bully Steve into taking him, Lucas and Max to the carnival. Steve makes up a whole story about his parents being in town and throwing a dinner party they’re forcing Steve to attend. Dustin then asks Eddie and Eddie just says no, giving the kid no other excuse. It’s Jonathan and Nancy who end up taking the whole party.
It’s a Friday night when they finally put their plan into action. Steve picks Eddie up for their “date” around six, and they head to the carnival. If Robin’s info is right, the kids should arrive a little over half an hour later, so they have time to prepare before their little scheme starts.
They walk around for a few minutes, looking for a place where they can have a clear view of the entrance, so they can see when the kids arrive. They stay close to the food stall because it’s perfectly placed a few yards from the ticket booth, and Eddie can also stuff his own face with greasy food while they wait.
A corndog and half a funnel cake later, Steve catches sight of El and Max walking ahead of the rest of the group, the boys following.
“Come on, it’s time,” Steve says offering his hand.
Eddie takes it without a second thought, smiling with his mouth still full of cake. “Let’s do this, sweetheart.”
They stay a few more moments there as Eddie finishes off his food, until they are sure the kids have spotted them. Then it’s show time.
Hand in hand, the two of them explore the stands. Eddie spends a good fifteen minutes trying to win a prize for Steve, just for Steve to win it in his first try. They go on a few rides (the very cliché ones every couple always go when they’re on dates), stop by the food stall again so they can share some cotton candy. They do all this hand in hand, only letting go when they really need to.
The kids follow them around the entire time, just like Eddie and Steve knew they would.
After almost an hour of this, they come to the conclusion that they’ve been convincing enough and it’s time for them to get their money. Eddie pulls Steve towards a more secluded area, rounding some stands and walking towards the parking lot until they leave all the noise and light from the carnival behind.
When they are sure there’s no one else around, they stop and Eddie crowds Steve against the closest car.
“Can you see them?” he whispers in Steve’s ear, resting his hands on the guy’s hips.
“Yeah. They’re hiding behind the green truck. Dustin and Mike are shoving each other and arguing, but the others are paying attention.”
“Good.” That’s all Eddie says before he kisses Steve.
That’s a point in their plan they discussed thoroughly. How far did they need to go to get their hands on that money? How far were they willing to go? Eddie was okay with whatever, but he had no idea about Steve.
“Dude, Dustin is not giving Robin any money if we only hold hands or hug. Kissing is the safest way.”
Still, Eddie didn’t want things to be weird between them after everything. They talked a lot until they finally agreed on one kiss, just for show, so there was no doubt they were together. They’d hang out for a few days after. They’d show up together to pick up Dustin when the kid asked, Steve would make a point to visit Eddie at the trailer park so Max could see them too. Robin would get the money; they would split it between them. Then they’d break up amicably. And when the kids asked, they’d just say it didn’t work out, that they were better off as friends.
That’s the plan they came up with; a very solid plan in their opinion.
That is until the time comes and they finally kiss.
When Eddie’s lips touch his, Steve’s whole body comes alive. Goosebumps run down his arms, and he feels a spark right down his spine. Eddie’s hands on his hips feel like brands and Steve gasps, shocked, as his senses go haywire.
It’s too much and not enough. Steve’s heart is hammering, his brain working like crazy to process what the hell is happening there. But, then, Eddie is pulling him closer and deepening the kiss and Steve is gone, gone, gone; hands burying into Eddie’s hair as he kisses him back with everything he’s got.
Neither Steve nor Eddie sees the kids leave, cursing and complaining about their lost money. They’re just too busy to notice.

kinktober day two • accidental stimulation

aka: melting
steve harrington x fem!reader
kinktober masterlist
cw: 18+, minors dni, dry humping, public sex (kind of), slight humiliation, p in v
🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Scoops Ahoy! is the bane of your existence. Shilling ice cream for bratty kids and old classmates is a real pain in the ass. Especially on days like today, when you have to work with Steve instead of Robin. Steve’s annoying, always has been. You were once paired up with him for a biology project in high school and he didn’t do a goddamn thing but took credit and you’ve been holding onto that grudge for years. At the time, Steve treated you like the dog shit under his shoe but times have changed.
You’d sprouted tits and actually learned how to take care of yourself— how to wear makeup and style your hair. It’s landed you in a weird spot with Harrington. He hits on repeatedly, almost on the hour during hour six hour shifts. Maybe if he’d hadn’t been such a dick to you in high school, you’d consider it because let’s face it; Steve Harrington is a babe. A stupid, arrogant babe. It’s kind of fun, turning him down. Feels like you’ve won something. Even though, you ponder what would happen if you gave into his incessant flirting.
However, today, you wanna sock him right in his beautiful face. He’s been incredibly annoying, complaining how he hasn’t felt the touch of a woman since Nancy and how the uniform really isn’t helping his case. You’d beg to differ. He unfortunately looks… attractive in it. But he’s fallen off the social ladder and that’s why the girls reject him.
It’s closing time, you’re bent over into the drop ins. Covering the big gallons of ice cream when Harrington tries to sneak behind you to close up the topping bar. His crotch grazes your ass and he freezes. Pathetically, makes a shocked noise and presses his hand against the small of your back.
“What are you doing?” you ask, voice echoing inside the drop-in freezer.
Steve doesn’t move, keeps his crotch firmly pressed against your ass and even rolls his hips. You can feel his cock hardening behind his polyester shorts and your eyes widen. Why the fuck isn’t he moving? And worse, how did he get hard just from barely grazing against you? He’s really down bad.
You try to look back at him but then he’s grabbing your hips, rolls his again and you stare stunned down at the tub of U.S.S Butterscotch.
He jolts back, you can hear his body making contact with the counter behind him as he exclaims, “It was an accident! I didn’t mean to…”
You pull your head out of the freezer and turn to him, a sly smile spreading across your lips, “Did that make you hard?”
“No,” he lies but the proof is staring you in the face, those little blue shorts doing nothing to help him hide it.
You laugh, soft and shocked and fine, okay— flattered.
“Wow,” you exhale, “I didn’t realize it was that dire.”
“Shut up,” he shakes his head and tries to look nonchalant, but his cheeks are red, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Another laugh, your eyes trained on his erection straining through his uniform and then he moves his hands to cover it. His eyes everywhere but on you. You hum, pout and tilt your head, “You’re not as suave as you think.”
He swallows hard, “I need to, close the topping station… I uh—“
“Yeah… and I need to finish covering the ice cream. I’m gonna bend back over and do that…” you tell him, feeling bold because well, it’s been a long time for you to and you can’t deny you enjoyed the feeling of him against you. “If I feel something… I’m just gonna keep doing what I’m doing.”
You spin back around and get back to covering the tubs. Steve’s not as stupid as you thought, because when you duck back into the freezer, his crotch is pressed against your ass again. His large hands wrap around your hips, holding you steady.
Thank god you guys were behind tonight. The mall has to be empty, gates all closed and the whole food court is quiet. You wiggle back against him and Steve lets out a sound you hate to admit is pretty.
Keeping true to your word, you act as if nothing is happening as you cover all the tub while Steve grinds against you from behind. And you let him. Welcome it, actually. Feel pretty because of it. You even grind back against him, feeling your thighs heat up. This is dangerous yet it feels like maybe it was bound to happen. A part of you thinks that maybe if you give Steve this, he’ll stop being so insufferable. Like he needs to have this kind of interaction with a woman in order to stop seeking it out so desperately. You want to give Steve what he wants— what he’s been begging for for months.
The pair of you keep grinding into each other for a while. Until you start to feel uncomfortable from the coldness of the freezer. So you pull yourself out of it. Move over to the register and bend over the counter. Steve follows you, presses himself up against your ass again and drags his hands down your back.
So you reach behind you, pull the skirt of your uniform up and then push your underwear down your thighs.
“Fuck,” Steve exhales as he watches and you can hear him undoing his shorts and shoving them down. “I’ve had dreams like this.”
Yeah, that’s a big inflation to your ego. And you can’t help but admit, “Me too.”
Steve groans lowly, brings his fingers to your cunt and rubs them up through your folds. He scissors your clit and then brings them back down, circling around your entrance. “I’m kind of big, I should probably get you ready,” he says and sinks two fingers into your pussy.
You gasp and moan, rolling your hips back on his fingers. Part of you wants to look back, see if he’s exaggerating but from what you could see in his shorts, you don’t think he is. Steve thrusts his fingers in and out of you slowly, spreads them while they’re deep inside and you have to bite your lip to keep quiet. You’re sure you’re alone in this mall, aside from the security guards but they don’t hang around the food court this time of night. Better be safe, though.
“You dream about me?” you ask, voice shaky.
“All the time,” Steve breathes out, pulling his fingers out but circles the tips of them along your hole. “Didn’t know it’d be so easy like this.”
You giggle, pushing your ass back against him as you tell him, “Me either. You’re a pain in my ass, but you are cute.”
“Am I?” he asks, leaning over you and kissing against your neck just as he slides his fingers back inside you.
A groan pours from you as you close your eyes, “Shut up, Harrington, you know you’re hot.”
He licks your jaw, then nips at it gently before pressing his lips against your ear, “I know I am. I didn’t know you thought so, too.”
God, you wish you could see his face— to remind you how much you really think so. You know he’s still wearing that dumb sailor hat he hates so much and you haven’t had the guts to tell him he looks cute in it. He adds a third finger and the stretch of it has you crying out. Steve fucking tsks, tells you, “Just wait until I get my cock inside you.”
“Do it,” you plead, pushing your ass back against him desperately.
He nips at your jaw again, fingers leaving you abruptly as he grips his cock and guides his tip towards your hole. Once you feel it prodding, you inhale sharply. He slips the tip in, stretching you beautifully— almost has you in tears but he goes slow. Allows you to adjust to every inch as he mouths at your jaw and neck.
You feel like you're melting, hands gripping the counter as he sheathes himself inside you to the hilt. He’s completely inside you, hands clinging onto your hips as your walls grip and pulse around his cock.
“Oh, fuck,” you whine out, “You’re so fucking big.”
He groans, right against your ear and mumbles, “I told you…”
Everything is fuzzy. Scoops Ahoy! doesn’t exist. You’re in space with Steve’s impressive cock buried inside you, not in the mall where there’s a potential to be seen. He thrusts forward hard and deep, making you yelp. He grabs your jaw, turns your face towards him and kisses you sloppily, silencing your involuntary noises. He tastes sweet, like the maraschino cherries he snacks on. You wonder if you taste like the ice cream sundae he made you for your break. You try to think about when he slid it to you and said he made it with love. Which is easy to forget as he rolls his hips, cock dragging against your sensitive walls.
“You’re so tight,” he babbles out.
You reply with, “you’re so big…”
“Feel good, yeah? Me stretching you out?”
“So… fucking… good,” you give in, gasping into the sideways kiss as he delivers a hard and deep thrust.
Steve’s hands reach around, cupping your breasts over your uniform and you wish you weren’t at work— but somewhere where he could feel you up, completely exposed. This will have to do, though. He kisses your neck sloppily, repetitively across the expanse of it that his lips can reach. Small, quiet moans falling past your lips, hopefully muffled by the tinny speakers playing easy listening throughout the mall.
“Oh, god, Steve…” you whine, hips jutting into the counter from the force of his thrusts.
His hands knead against your chest as he presses his face against the crook of your neck and breathes, rugged and heavy. He picks up his pace a bit more and you know he’s close, so you shove your hand down between you and the counter. Get your fingers pressed to your clit and rub circles, mirroring the rhythm of Steve’s thrusts. The feeling of his breath against your neck is surprisingly pleasant. You focus hard on reaching your climax, luckily getting there before Steve. Unfortunately, you can’t keep your volume under control as you moan. Feel too good to really care, even. Steve whines from the sound, pulling out of you quick and then you feel thick, hot ropes of cum landing on your exposed ass.
Then the pair of you stay still, awkwardly— just panting. You turn your head to look back at him as he uses his apron to clean the mess on your skin. It makes you laugh, which causes Steve to smile and laugh. He’s got his shorts back up and he moves to pull your underwear up. Then you turn and look at him. He chews his bottom lip, staring back at you.
“I uh, forgot to ask you earlier but, could you give me a ride home tonight?” you ask, cheeks red in embarrassment.
“Oh, yeah, for sure,” he nods, looking as awkward as you feel.
You grab onto the collar of his uniform and suggest, “Maybe we could hang out at your place for a bit, first?”
Steve grins, gorgeous white teeth on display and he puts his hands on your hips, leans down and says, “Yeah, that could be fun.” before he plants a kiss on your lips.

i am weak for shy and nervous eddie munson who fumbles when around his crush. imagine him pining over this girl who he’s never even talked to, (maybe they have different social circles) and he just sees her around with her friends and he is smitten and then one day they accidentally bump into each other and she’s like “you’re eddie right?” and you know he’d be so flustered.
pairing: eddie munson x fem!reader word count: 2.2k
content warnings: lovesick eddie, pining, a little self-deprecation and self-doubt, mostly cheese and fluff, adult language - wildly unedited, oops.

“I hate this fucking school.”
The group exchange knowing glances as Eddie sits at the table with a grumble. His lunch tray lands with a low crash, nearly colliding with Gareth’s juicebox and therefore spilling its contents all over. A huff and quick reflexes on Jeff’s part save the group from catastrophe, more importantly, save the homework the boy had yet to finish ahead of next period.
Eddie however, doesn’t notice the mess he has almost created. Frankly, he’s not paying attention. Even when Gareth tells him to, “Watch it, dude.”. The metal-head flicks his hand to say he’s sorry for whatever it is that his friends are chastising him for, but his eyes are fixed ahead, on the sole reason he’s in such a grumpy mood.
You.
Or rather Steve the dick Harrington, who’s got his arm draped shamelessly around your shoulders, as if he wasn’t just publicly humiliating Nancy Wheeler — since up until mere twenty-four hours ago, Hawkins High thought the blue-eyed girl was the King’s girlfriend, not you.
Eddie’s miserable. When did this happen? How did this even happen?
Last night, Steve and Nancy were all over each other. Eddie knows this to be fact since he saw them together at that party he wasn’t invited to as a guest, but to work because the popular kids always need a fix and he needs to make a living if he’s ever going to leave this shithole town. Anyway, that’s when Eddie saw the “it” couple and yet, now Nancy is nowhere to be seen and you’re snuggling into Harrington.
“I hate this fucking school,” Eddie repeats, sticking his fork into today’s cafeteria lunch. “Everyone is so two-faced and fake. No one has any integrity.”
The guys don’t need to follow his line of sight because they know very well who and what the metal-head is talking about.
“Maybe if you just talked to her, then you wouldn’t be so miserable today.” Jeff notes without looking up from his homework. “Plus, I overheard Charmaine tell Julie that Harrington is continuing to hold a candle for Nancy. This thing over there, that you’re obsessing over, is just friends being friends.”
“Doesn’t look like just friends to me,” Eddie grumbles, then looks at Jeff. “And I tried talking to her. It’s just, every time I do, my mind goes blank.”
Gareth rolls his eyes. “Dude, she’s not some superbeing. She’s a girl from our school. You’ve got no problem talking to other girls?”
Eddie doesn’t say anything because how does he go about explaining to his friends that to him, you’re more than a girl from school. It’s embarrassing enough how he’s never talked to you and yet, you occupy his entire mind and soul. The guys think it’s just another crush. Eddie knows it’s not. He can’t tell them though because they’ll laugh him out of it. Eddie the freak Munson is very much pining after a girl who doesn’t know he exists. Pathetic.
So, as any respectable guy in his situation would, Eddie continues to wallow in his own self-pity.
He stares at you throughout the remainder of the lunch break, narrowly avoiding your gaze here and there by simply looking away. His downcast humour continues throughout the rest of the day. Since he doesn’t often engage in class anyway, the teachers pay him no mind. Although, their reasons are different: a quiet Eddie Munson is better than one who causes various disturbances. After the final bell ring, he hurries out of the building and blares music the entire drive home, to fizz out his thoughts.
Called into work. Here’s some cash. Go to the diner.
Wayne
Eddie sighs. The one thing he was hoping for were his uncle's words of wisdom, although it seems that will also have to wait. Eddie slides the note into the pocket of his denim jeans and he is out the door again.
The diner is about thirty minutes away from the trailer, by foot. The metal-head decided to walk it anyway, hoping the fresh air would knock some sense into him because he’s got no business feeling this emotionally shattered.
Maybe if he wasn’t such a bitch boy around you, things would be different. Unfortunately, for some reason, ever since he first laid eyes on you, Eddie’s default is shy.
Okay, maybe you and Harrington are a thing now, so what? Eddie’s got no claim on you, unspoken or otherwise. You can date whoever, even if it’s Steve the asshole. It’s also not like you and Nancy are friends. Everyone at school knows you two run in different circles, meaning no girl-code is being broken. There is also the possibility of what Jeff overheard from Charmaine and Julie being true: you and Harrington are nothing but friends. Very friendly friends. Touchy, feely. And Eddie would have noticed earlier if it were simply the case of friendship, therefore, he concludes that you are in fact dating Steve the douche Harrington and he somehow has to come to terms with it.
Eddie pushes the door open and makes a beeline for an empty booth. He orders a burger with fries and a soda from the middle-aged waitress, then whips out a notebook from his backpack while he waits. The only one he carries and it’s not for any schoolwork. The numbers scribbled hastily in the margins are easily mistaken for maths, but that’s just business. He focuses instead on the latest D&D campaign he’s working on.
For a moment, the metal-head forgets about today's events. He gets lost in the fictional world he’s creating. The made up monsters replace any harboured thoughts of you with Steve the turd, although one closely resembles Harrington's famous head of hair and he smirks, proud of himself for the immaturity. He figures if girls can write about their demons in journals, he can bring them into D&D. Bring them, then kill them.
He’s just about finished marking a big cross over the doodle of monster Steve when a figure steps in front of the light, creating a shadow over his notebook. Eddie sighs, foot tapping underneath the table in frustration. He’s about to make a rude remark, but when he looks up to meet the eyes of the perpetrator, he’s met with your wide gaze and naturally, he freezes.
“I like your drawings,” you say.
“Uhm, t-thanks,” he fumbles.
“You’re Eddie, right?”
All he can do is nod in response and you smile. Small and charming. Enough to make the brunette’s head spin and pinch his leg because he can’t believe this is happening. Surely, this must be a dream of some sort. He came home and passed out on the sofa. The only logical explanation for why you would be talking to him, complementing his stupid little doodles. The only logical explanation for why you know his fucking name.
“We’ve never officially met,” you begin and reach out your hand.
Eddie glances at it and without really thinking, he utters, “I know who you are.”
It comes out a little more mean than he intends it to, he knows because you retreat your hand as if you’ve been burned. Eddie’s heart stings. Now he knows it’s real since only he’d be stupid enough to ruin a good thing before it even began. He’s an asshole.
“Sorry,” he mumbles quickly, then straightens in his seat. “Do you wanna sit? I-I have fries.”
He chews on the inside of his cheek for how incredibly pathetic that sounded; fries. You however, don’t notice and you’re also kind enough not to point out how he’s stumbling about his words like a little schoolkid.
“I love french fries.”
And with that, you’re sliding into the booth, across from him.
Eddie watches in disbelief as you help yourself to his food, not just the potato side, as if the two of you have been friends a lifetime. Then, probably to confuse him even more, you start telling him about how your parents locked you out and how it’s nice to see a familiar face, while he’s sitting there in silence, taking it all in, wondering whether perhaps this was some cruel joke Harrington and his band of losers were playing on him.
He wants to ask. Save himself the embarrassment if this does end up being a prank and tomorrow’s gossip: Eddie the freak Munson thought he had a chance. You keep talking, only taking small pauses to take bites out of his food or a sip of his soda, and to Eddie’s surprise nothing happens. No one jumps out screaming, laughing, pointing at him. This is really happening and he is truly baffled.
“Can we get another burger meal and the same soda?” You order from the waitress when she comes around to check the tables and afterwards, turn to look at Eddie, smile ever present. “Kinda ate most of yours.”
“It’s fine,” he manages to say.
For the first time since you sat down, it’s quiet. Now you’re the one staring at him, head tilted slightly to the one side. The smile on your face transforms into something more thoughtful, as if you were trying to read his mind — which is exactly the same thing Eddie was trying to do to you.
“So,” you begin again, “What were you scribbling intently before I crashed the party?”
“Just some stuff for an afterschool thing,” Eddie answers with a shrug, voice a little shaky.
“Mysterious.”
The sparkle in your eyes screams that you want to know more, but the metal-head is hesitant to share. Even though this wasn’t part of some scheme by Hawkins’ finest, it didn’t mean there wasn’t a different underlying reason as to why you were taking interest in him and he didn’t like when people made a fool of him.
Eddie clears his throat.
“Did your parents really lock you out?” He questions.
A brow goes up, it seems you are surprised at his push back.
“Yes,” you say matter-of-factly, then add, “They do this sort of thing from time to time. They’re big hippies, so it’s not like neglect or anything. It’s weed. They don’t want me home when they’re high because they think it would make me undermine their authority.”
Eddie smirks and you tell him it’s not funny, but he can’t help the chuckle leave his throat. When you throw a fry at him across the table, smiling wide, he’s no longer feeling the nervous bubble. In fact, he’s suddenly quite relaxed.
“I’m sorry that I’m a good daughter. Next time I’ll be sure to pick a less judgemental table” you say dramatically, although the grin doesn’t leave your features.
The brunette lifts his hands in front of his chest in a defence motion.
“No judgement here. My social status requires me to second guess reasons people have for talking to me. I had to make sure your boyfriend wasn’t going to jump me the second we stepped outside.”
“Boyfriend?” You seem genuinely taken aback by the assumption.
“Harrington,” he clarifies, although he’s not sure why he should be.
Until you laugh. It’s soft and tender, but it’s a laugh nonetheless.
“Steve’s not my boyfriend,” you state in between giggles, “He’s madly in love with Wheeler. God, does the whole school think we’re dating? He’s gonna hate that. Poor Nancy.”
Eddie blinks. Seems Julie’s information was correct, but it still doesn’t explain the closeness and the banter the entire cafeteria was witness to. He feels weird for letting this bother him so much and even though he usually has difficulties keeping his big mouth shut, he doesn’t want you thinking he’s some sort of pervert, so he doesn't say anything, simply bops his head.
Although, his silence doesn’t seem to deter you.
“I noticed you staring,” you admit, half a decibel lower.
A fresh burger and fries land on the table, followed by a large Coca-Cola. The waitress mutters something along the lines of enjoy, then walks away to tend to another table.
Eddie doesn’t know what to do next: admit or deny. He’d rather go back to fifteen minutes ago when you were eating his food and he wasn’t talking. Therefore, he slides the burger closer to himself and in one swift motion, lifts it to his lips, taking a bite too big for his mouth. He doesn’t care what he looks like at the moment, he just needs to keep himself quiet before saying something else he’s going to regret.
Across the table, you’re all smiley again.
“Do you think, when you’re done eating, you could walk me home?” You ask, offering him a napkin.
As he nods, he reaches for the paper cloth and his fingers brush yours delicately. There’s a zap of electricity, but if you feel it, you don’t react. Eddie’s continuing with the shyness, so he looks down at the burger in his hand and pretends nothing happened to him either.
It’s not until you lean over the table, index finger stretched and inching forward to touch his face, wiping leftover ketchup from the corner of his mouth, that the metal-head thinks maybe, just maybe, you feel some type of way about him too because that’s not what a person does for someone they only officially met minutes before.
Afterwards, you say, “I’ll tell you all about how I’ve been watching you too.”, and Eddie nearly chokes on his food.

part one
“so how was your first day?” robin asks steve as he slides onto the barstool next to her and chrissy.
“it actually wasn’t that bad,” steve shrugs before taking a long pull from the freshly opened bottle the bartender slides his way.
“it wasn’t that bad?” chrissy asks, incredulous. “so he didn’t make you go to the erewhon all the way across town? the one he goes to because selena gomez was seen there once?”
“that’s why he made me go there?”
“yeah, he really likes that one movie she’s in.”
steve thinks for a moment. “the dead don’t die?”
“no, the one with the dancing,” chrissy snorts.
steve makes a face and then shrugs again. “i made him his breakfast, i drove him around, i organized his tshirt closet… pretty standard stuff for an assistant.”
“you organized his tshirt closet? what the fuck does that even mean?” robin asks, laughing.
“exactly what it sounds like,” steve grins at her. “anyway, really, it wasn’t that bad. sure, he’s insufferable but not anything i couldn’t handle. don’t worry about it.”
“well, thanks for doing this,” chrissy says. “vickie handled it for a while, but i guess once you’ve been fired twelve times in the course of six months, you have to draw a boundary with the thirteenth.”
“it’s really not a big deal, it’s not like i’m doing it for free,” steve responds. “the money is more than worth it.”
“still, i know how he can be. but he’s really not so bad. once he’s… comfortable.” chrissy frowns.
“whatever,” steve shrugs for a third time. “i’m just here for the cash.” he winks and gives her a reassuring smile.
~*~
the next morning, steve pulls up to eddie’s huge beverly hills mansion bright and early, just as he had yesterday. he punches in the gate code, waves to the security guy on duty, and makes his way inside to the kitchen.
eddie storms in while steve is halfway through cooking another omelette, this time with tomatoes and onions and freshly grated cheddar cheese.
“i don’t care, wheeler, i’m not making a fucking appearance and i’m definitely not doing it with him,” eddie snarls into the phone pressed to his face. he hasn’t seemed to notice that steve’s in his house again.
eddie waits for whoever it is on the phone to speak before he says, “well maybe i don’t want to fix it. maybe this is it,” and then hangs up the phone. he lets out a frustrated little scream before he turns to leave the kitchen, finally noticing steve by the stove. “you’re back,” he says, voice monotone.
“i’m back,” steve smiles, sliding the plate full of food across the large island toward him. eddie looks down at it like he’s surprised. “eat,” steve tells him.
“another sweater vest?” eddie sneers instead of picking up his fork.
“i like them,” steve shrugs, still smiling.
eddie rolls his eyes. “whatever,” he mutters and then picks up the plate and retreats from the kitchen.
~*~
eddie is deeply annoyed by how good steve’s omelettes are. he practically licks the plate clean when he’s finished, which only serves to make his bad mood worse.
“can i take your plate?” steve asks from the doorway of the living room.
“jesus christ, man, wear a fucking bell,” eddie grumbles before holding out the plate, forcing steve to walk across the room to the couch and take it from him.
“i’ll remember to announce myself from now on,” steve replies. “chrissy just called; you have another meeting with the pr team this afternoon. we’ll leave here in about an hour.”
eddie doesn’t respond and steve goes quietly back to the kitchen.
~*~
eddie tries to confuse steve with the directions to nancy’s office again, mostly just to annoy him since the car has a built in gps. steve ignores eddie, leaving him to play on his phone in the back seat. the windows are tinted dark, just how eddie likes it & it lulls him into a false sense of security to where he’s almost relaxed by the time they get to nancy’s office.
the meeting is a fucking drag. it’s just a rehashing of the morning’s phone call and eddie had already made himself perfectly clear. he’s not willing to fix anything. nancy and chrissy try to double-team him, begging him to think about the tour & the album roll-out & the rest of the band. the entertainment blogs are running wild with the rumors circulating about the other night and now they’re digging up shit that he wishes would stay buried.
“absolutely fucking not,” eddie spits out. “i refuse to be fucking cordial with that moron.”
“fine,” nancy says finally. “i guess we’re done here then.” she gets up from the head of the conference room table and leaves through the big glass doors and the rest of her team takes that as their cue to leave, too.
chrissy levels him with a look, waiting until the last intern has left the room before speaking.
“eddie, i know you’re pissed right now. trust me, i would be too,” she says, using that tone eddie always hates—the one that makes it sound like she’s trying to placate a rabid dog. “but the label has invested a lot of money into you and they need you to put in some work right now. take a minute, take a breath, and then we’ll talk again. but we need to respond; we can figure out what that looks like. i’ll talk to nance… maybe we don’t need a joint appearance. maybe you can just make a statement.”
eddie knows there are a ton of people relying on this tour & this upcoming album. he knows the band doesn’t deserve the hit from this. but what is there to even say? he’s just so fucking angry about it.
“fine. i’ll make an appearance. but i won’t, under any circumstances, be seen with him,” eddie tells her firmly. he slides his sunglasses back onto his face before pushing himself out of his chair and making his way over to the door. “just tell me when and where. and make sure nancy doesn’t make me sound like a fucking idiot.”
“great,” chrissy smiles so bright she looks like a teenager again. “i’ll talk to nancy. we’ll figure it out.”
any reassurance eddie feels is washed away by a renewed sense of annoyance when he sees steve waiting for him in the lobby, still wearing his pastel yellow sweater vest, drinking a purple smoothie from a straw and scrolling on his phone. he’s laughing at something on the screen and the sunlight comes through the huge front windows just right, making him glow golden, and eddie just feels something inside him twist unpleasantly.
steve looks up then to see eddie coming, but eddie breezes past him to the sidewalk. steve jumps up to follow, handing the valet their ticket. when the car finally pulls up, eddie says, “no liquids in the car,” before sliding into the back seat.
he sees steve shrug before smiling at the valet and handing him his half empty smoothie to dispose of and a tip.
the car ride home is silent. eddie practically leaps from the car before it’s even come to a stop when they pull into the driveway. there are packages on the table in the foyer, likely brought in by the security guy at the gate. “grab those,” eddie tells steve with a wave of his hand.
steve follows eddie into the kitchen, arms laden with paper bags and boxes. most of it, eddie knows, is free product and merch, stuff he never uses and mostly stuff he doesn’t even want. steve places the packages on the counter and watches as eddie sifts through them, clearly looking for something.
“do you want lunch?” steve asks. eddie ignores him, finally finding the package he’d ordered earlier today. he flings it across the kitchen island toward steve on the other side.
steve catches the package in his hands and arches an eyebrow.
“open it,” eddie tells him, nodding at paper wrapping. he opens the fridge to pull out a bottle of water and takes a long sip as he watches steve’s fingers tear at the brown paper.
once the package is open, steve huffs out a laugh, barely a breath, before holding up a bright pink cat collar with a tiny bell attached. he shakes it in the air, making the bell tinkle. the collar clearly will not fit him.
“fuck you, man,” steve says, still smiling.
“fuck you, too,” eddie says.
and then he leaves the kitchen.

The person who knows Steve the most is Tommy. The party is annoyed every time they are confronted with this fact, because sure. They know Steve’s favorite songs and his hair care routine, but Tommy knows that too. He also knows that Steve is allergic to aspirin.
Nancy and Jonathan are standing in the middle of Melvin’s arguing about painkillers because neither can remember what Steve asked for, and decide to just grab one. They all do the same thing anyways, right? Wrong.
Nancy barely has the bottle off the shelf when it’s grabbed out of her hand, “Wow, Wheeler. Breaking his heart isn’t good enough? You wanna kill him now too? Get Tylenol.”
Steve calls Dustin up and is kinda whiny until he agrees to go to his house and watch movies. He doesn’t want to do this. He makes it clear that he doesn’t. Like, an hour and a half in, there’s a knock at the door.
It’s Tommy with a birthday cake that his mom made and insisted he drop off. Dustin didn’t even know it was Steve’s birthday. They’ve known each other for two years.
Tommy is roaming the shelves as Family Video, rolling his eyes about Steve befriending Eddie ‘The Freak’ Munson and a band geek and how loudly they are just dicking off at the counter. Theyre snacking on brownies Robin brought in, and then he hears a wheeze.
Then panic. Then the thump of a body on the floor. Then without even thinking, he’s pulling an epi-pen out of his pocket and jabbing it into Steve’s thigh. Of course his ‘friends’ have no idea about his peanut allergy. Of course.
Steve has the presence of mind to blurt out, “Is that expired?”
“I don’t freaking know!” Tommy snaps, and then snaps his fingers in front of Steve’s face when his eyes start to droop. “Hey, stay awake until the ambulance gets here.”
“Am’lance?”
“Yeah, the ambulance,” He says, turning to Steve’s friends. “You did call an ambulance.”
And Eddie and Robin are like, “Yes” as they slowly back up to go do that.

"Is this always how they act?" Jonathan asks. He has to lean close and yell a little for Robin to hear him over the noise of the house party.
"Yup," she says.
She, Jonathan, and Argyle continue to stare at Eddie, sitting in an easy chair, Steve perched happily on his lap. Eddie has a whole bowl of bbq Lay's, and Steve will lean back for a chip, which Eddie feeds him with a smile.
"And they're definitely not dating?" Argyle asks when Steve leans back to whisper in Eddie's ear, mouth pressed close. It's deeply gratifying that they just got in from California and already they see it.
"Steve says no."
"You think he's lying?" Jonathan asks.
"I think he doesn't realize he likes Eddie yet."
Eddie tugs at Steve's hair, and Steve turns back, gives him a smile that's so intimate Robin can't stare directly at it. Instead, she turns to her friends, but Argyle is still watching Eddie and Steve. He's drumming his fingers against his chin, expression what Robin could only call mischievous.
"What are you planning?" Jonathan asks.
"Just helping some bros find true love."
Jonathan looks mildly concerned but before he can say anything, Nancy makes her appearance. And they're something, becoming something, and she cares about Eddie and Steve getting their shit together, but Nancy is smiling and she's so, so pretty. It's easy to get lost in the blue of her eyes and the sweep of her hair and forget about everything else.
---
A few hours later and they're all sitting around a coffee table in the basement, just the six of them. It's sort of funny, she thinks, how it always ends up being the six of them.
They're crossfaded already, but that hasn't stopped Eddie and Argyle from lighting another joint. Her thoughts have gone light and floaty, all that's holding her to earth the press Steve's leg and Nancy's hand against hers.
Argyle is sort of monologuing and she doesn't think any of them are paying much mind, but then he stops mid-sentence, grips Jonathan's shoulder tight enough that his knuckles go white. "Dudes. What if we played Truth or Dare?"
Nancy snorts. "Not on your life."
"I don't think I can move?" She says. She leans into Steve, sighing with contentment.
"I, for one, would love to see Buckley complete a dare," Eddie says.
She sticks her tongue out at him. "I've done plenty. Band kid, remember?"
"Ugh, curse the horny trumpeters." Eddie slumps on the coffee table in defeat.
"I'll have you know, they were very wholesome games."
Steve squints at her. "Wasn't there an orgy in someone's pool?"
She sniffs, looks away instead of answering, which makes everyone laugh.
"Speaking of sex," Argyle says. "No one catch your eye tonight, Harrington?"
"Wasn't really looking."
"That's new," Jonathan says.
Steve laughs. "I'm tired of hooking up."
He's told her that too, countless times. She thinks the real reason he hasn't dated in months is sitting right next to him, drumming his fingers on the coffee table.
"Maybe you've just lost your touch," Argyle says.
"I have not!" Steve clutches a hand over his heart. "If I wanted to, I could pull any girl upstairs."
"C'mon, my dude, no way you're that good."
"I was!" He looks to Robin, Nancy, Jonathan. "I was, back me up!"
"I don't know, Scoops wasn't your best work," she says.
"No, no, we said Scoops doesn't count! It was the hat. The outfit! I did fine after!"
"I happened to think the sailor costume was very cute," Eddie says.
"Thank you," Steve preens. He shifts away from her to lean into Eddie, who grins.
"I don't think we can trust Eddie's judgement here," Nancy says.
Steve points at her. "Yes, and I remember you being totally uninterested."
She squeaks in indignation, Robin smothering her own giggles behind her hand. "It was--it was hormones!"
"Yeah, very uninterested in me." Jonathan chimes in. There's a little second where no one reacts--the fact that Nancy was technically still with Steve when that happened ringing unspoken between them--before Nancy and Steve start to giggle.
"I've hooked up with everyone I've ever tried to," Argyle chimes in, nonchalant.
"No way," the whole group says.
"I've got the touch."
"C'mon, that literally can't be true just by like...stats," Steve says.
"Don't know what to tell you, my dude." Argyle's smile is smug. "I'm really good."
"You're just jealous," she tells him. She nudges his shoulder so he knows she's joking.
"No! Jealousy has nothing to do with it."
They erupt at that, calling out the obvious lie.
"I'm not upset!" Steve shouts over them. "I'm just saying, it didn't happen. Sorry, Argyle. You have bizzaro charm, but there's no way it has a 100% success rate."
"Sounds like jealousy to me, Stevie." Eddie cocks his head with a smirk.
"Harrington, you're so cute when you're competitive," Argyle says. "Anyway, it worked on--"
"Don't say Jonathan," Nancy, Steve, and Robin all say.
"Hey! Why not me?'
"Well, it's just--" Nancy waves her hand in the air. "You're. I mean. It's not hard."
Jonathan groans, hides his face in his hands as they laugh.
"I'll prove it to you," Argyle says to Steve. "100% success rate."
"What?"
"I'm going to seduce you."
"Oh, shit," she says.
She knows what's going to happen even before Steve puts his hands on his hips, awkwardly cause they're sitting, cocks an eyebrow, and says, "Okay."
Eddie grumbles something she can't make out, but Steve shakes his head, laughs. "Nah, it's just for fun, right?"
"Until it works." Argyle tosses his hair.
Steve rolls his eyes. "Gimme your best shot."
They rearrange around the table, Eddie and Argyle swapping places.
Everyone is quiet for a second, Steve reaches for his drink. "You got great hands, Harrington," Argyle says.
"I--oh, what?" Steve splutters. He goes a little pink, and Robin thinks it's the first time she's seen him this flustered by a compliment.
"Yeah." Argyle takes his hand, traces along his palm and knuckles. "Big. Strong. Like you could really take care of someone."
Eddie kicks the table, sending it rocking, scattering empty cups and chip bags. Steve is crimson, totally oblivious to Eddie's flailing.
"Thanks," he mumbles. He doesn't pull his hand away. Robin, everyone, is riveted.
"No one's ever told you that?"
"No. No one."
"That's too bad. It's probably all about your hair and your eyes and your body."
Steve smiles and it's one she recognizes, flirty and a little wicked. "You noticed my body?"
Argyle laughs. "Oh, c'mon, you know everyone notices that."
"Would you believe it if I told you I don't get enough compliments?"
"Not on your life."
Steve leans into him, giggles. "Well, worth a shot, right?"
"Always. You wanna know the first thing I noticed about you?"
"Ass, right?"
"It was how much you love your friends but you hide it behind a facade of disapproval. Made me think maybe you weren't used to the love you want to give being reciprocated."
They're all locked in on Argyle and Steve, but she notices Eddie flinch, move like he's about to stand, Nancy reaching out to stop him. She thinks, then, for the first time, that maybe this is mean to him. He doesn't know it's not real.
"Oh," Steve says. His voice breaks, a little, and her heart breaks for him. "I--oh."
"Your ass was the second thing I noticed," Argyle quips and the tension around the table breaks, Steve giggling.
With smooth confidence she never would have expected him to possess, Argyle cards his fingers through Steve's hair. "Just had to touch it for myself." His voice is soft.
"That all you want to touch?"
Argyle grins. "Not even a little bit."
She watches, stunned, as Steve leans in, face almost touching Argyle's. Eddie makes a noise, a pained cough, and Steve leaps to his feet.
"I can't kiss you!" He half-yells, stumbling.
"And why not?" Argyle asks. He's got a wild smile on his face.
"I'm in love with Eddie!" Steve's eyes are wide, panicked.
"I'm sorry," Steve says to him. "Eddie, I--"
But before he can get the words out, Eddie's climbing over the coffee table, sending drinks and snacks flying, the calls for him to get down ignored as he trips into Steve's arms.
"You love me?" Eddie asks.
"I'm sorry I couldn't say it before. I--got in my head about it and I--I hoped it didn't seem like I was leading you on because my words kept getting stuck, and--"
"Sweetheart." Eddie stops him. "I--" He breaks off, notices that the rest of them are raptly listening to the confession. "Do you want to go somewhere we can talk?"
They disappear upstairs, and she turns to Argyle in awe. "I can't believe that actually worked."
"What can I say, I'm a miracle worker. Are there more Doritos?"
---
Early in the morning, they're piled in Nancy's station wagon, Jonathan driving them home. She and Nancy are in the middle seat, Steve and Eddie in the back. Steve's curled against him, face pressed to his neck, hidden by a cloud of hair. She wants to ask what happened, how their conversation went, if they're official and how long Steve's known he's in love, but Nancy moves closer, head dropping to Robin's shoulder. Their fingers entwine and Robin closes her eyes, smiles.
"Tomorrow?" Nancy asks.
She nods. "Tomorrow."

As soon as Steve hears the phone ring, he sighs.
Robin is away visiting her family in Kentucky for the holidays, and the only other person to ever call would be...
"Dustin," Steve says, his free hand coming up to rest on his hip, "why are you calling?"
There's a pause on the other line before Dustin whines, "How do you always know when it's me."
"Because your irritating energy bleeds through the phone."
Another pause. "You got that from Robin, didn't you?"
Yes. He did. Sue him for wanting to be witty and taking a few notes from Robin. "What do you want?"
"Okay, so..." Oh boy. "I've been meaning to talk to Suzie for a while now, and we made plans not to talk on Christmas because she would be with her family all day, and I knew my mom wouldn't want me to be away for too long so-"
"The point, Dustin."
Dustin mumbles something that sounds suspiciously like multiple curse words before continuing, "The point is that I'm taking Cerebro to that hill, but I'm going to need a ride."
Steve frowns, walking toward the nearest window until the phone cord is fully stretched so he can pull a curtain open. He winces a bit at the bright light. "Dustin, it's freezing out, and the hill will be covered in snow."
"You would've done the same for Nancy!"
Steve's eyebrows raise. "Not the best approach if you want a ride, dude."
"I'm not trying to approach the whole you and Nancy thing. I'm trying to make a point," Dustin emphasizes a little too loudly into the phone. "You would do anything if you were in love! Even sit out in the snow for a few hours just so you can talk to the person you love."
"Have you ever heard of the phone?"
"Have you heard the number of siblings she has that would jump at the opportunity to listen in on our call? Plus, Cerebro is our thing."
Steve really wishes Dustin were in front of him, so he could see the way his cheeks are flushing during this exact moment. "You just like using your Cebro thing because it makes it feel like your love is forbidden."
"I do not!"
"Alright, Romeo," Steve says with a laugh, "I'll give you a ride. If you promise to only be there for an hour."
"Not including the time it takes to get there, set it up, and leave."
Steve sighs and knocks the phone against his head for a second before reluctantly agreeing, "Yes, but you better be bundled up so much that you're sweating out there. I don't want to hear you complain." He also secretly worries about the kid getting frostbite or something, but he'd never admit to it.
"Fine I'll see you in an hour?"
"Yeah, I'll see you then," Steve says as Dustin hangs up. "A thank you would've been nice..."
He really hopes he doesn't regret this.
-:-:-:-:-:-
When Dustin climbs in the car, he's bundled from head to toe but still manages to laugh at Steve who is wearing the same amount of layers as him. "Look in the mirror," Steve comments dryly before driving off.
The drive there isn't too long, and although Steve saw Dustin a few days ago - after Claudia insisted he spend Christmas with them instead of home alone - he's kind of glad to hang out with Dustin again. It's not often he gets a lot of one-on-one time with the kid anymore.
Which is why Steve is particularly bitchy when he pulls up to the familar area below the hill and find a familar van there.
"Dustin..."
"I didn't think you would agree to take me here and stay! So, I asked Eddie to give me a ride back this morning-"
"This morning?"
"And he said he was already going to be in the area and wanted to briefly meet Suzie and my Cerebro, so he's here now! And if you want, you can just drop me off. Think of it as a late Christmas gift."
Steve shakes his head. "And leave you in Munson's capable hands only to find out you two froze to death? No thanks." He gets out of the car with thoughts of a mourning Claudia Henderson on his mind.
"We wouldn't freeze to death!" Dustin practically shouts as he climbs out.
At that same moment, Eddie exits from his van, wearing his usual attire, only with maybe an extra added layer - a leather jacket.
Steve turns to Dustin, raising his eyebrows and gesturing toward Munson. Dustin sighs before going to the trunk to dig out all the different Cerebro parts.
Before Steve can join him, Eddie approaches him with a big smile. "Steve Harrington. Looking awfully toasty."
Steve rolls his eyes in response before openning his car door and reaching toward the back, grabbing the spare pair of gloves and a hat that he keeps whenever Robin forgets the extra layers - which is often. He hands them to Eddie without a word then helps Dustin grab his things before heading to their snow covered destination.
Eddie only lasts a few minutes up the hill before he manages to push into Steve's space while Dustin hurries ahead of them. "So, you look happy to see me."
"Just peachy, Munson."
Eddie snorts. "I'm guessing Dustin didn't tell you I would be tagging along when you got here?"
"And I'm guessing Dustin didn't tell you I was planning on staying."
"Actually," Eddie says, nudging Steve's shoulder, "I told him you would jump at the opportunity to hang out with him, and there was no way you would drop him off to freeze to death."
Steve narrows his eyes as he looks at Eddie.
Eddie shifts things around in his arms to grab his shirt and jacket and lift them up enough to show off some of his scarred skin. "Our matching battle scars will forever bound us, Steve. I wonder if the bats gave us telepathic abilities," he says, way too cheery for Steve's liking.
"If it did, then I would teleport up to the top of the hill right now."
"Telepathic means the ability to read each other's minds. The word you're thinking of is 'teleportation.'" Eddie corrects him without judgement - something Steve's always found surprising.
"Oh. Then guess what I'm thinking about right now."
Eddie hums before leaning in to mumble in his ear. "You're thinking about getting a piece of this."
Steve laughs and shoves him away. He's glad it's cold out so he blame his blush on the cold. For some reason, he's still not entirely immune to Eddie's flirting. "Definitely not what I was thinking about."
"You are now," Eddie teases.
Steve swallows heavily, pressing down those thoughts and many... many.... images. "I think you're confusing my thoughts for your own thoughts."
"Tell me about it," Eddie sighs dramatically.
Steve is relieved when he sees they've reached the top of the hill. He's even more relieved when Dustin doesn't ask for his help to put Cerebro together, but Eddie is all too happy to help while calling Dustin a genius - in various annoying, dramatic ways.
It's not long before Dustin is awaiting Suzie's response while Eddie bounces on his feet. Steve's not sure if it's from excitement or being cold - probably both.
"Dusty bun?"
Dustin's face lights up in a way that is entirely too endearing for Steve's heart to handle. The jedi has learned the art of love from the master - or something like that. "Suzie poo! I'm here with Steve and Eddie for the next few moments. Eddie wants to say hello."
Steve frowns and raises his voice, "I want to say hello, too! Eddie just wants to be dramatic about it."
"Because I haven't had the pleasure of meeting the lady," Eddie argues before turning up the charm. "Suzie, it's a pleasure. I'm sure you've heard nothing but wonderful things about me just like I've heard nothing but wonderful things about you. Unlike Steve over here who you've probably never heard a good thing about."
"Hi, Eddie, it's nice to meet you," Suzie replies, giggling. "And hi Steve!"
"Hey, Suze. Don't let Eddie win you over with his charm just yet. It's bad for his ego."
"You think I'm charming?" Eddie asks, batting his eyelashes.
Steve makes a see? gesture before realizing Suzie can't see him.
"Alright," Dustin says, "Now they're going to leave us alone for the next hour."
"Hour? It's already been at least five minutes," Steve complains.
Eddie grabs him by the shoulders and steers him away. "Don't worry, Suzie! I'll make sure you get the fulll hour!"
Steve lets Eddie guide him a little down the hill, ignoring when Suzie asks, "Do they always bicker like an old married couple?"
When they get a comfortable distance away, where they're out of earshot but Steve can still see Dustin to make sure he doesn't freeze to death, Steve sits on the ground. He glances up after he gets as comfortable as he can get on the side of a hill, only to find Eddie frowning down at him.
"What?" Steve asks.
Eddie shrugs. "Doesn't seem fair that you get to sit on the ground, and I can't."
Steve's eyes scan over Eddie's body. "Not my fault that you didn't wear a long enough jacket to cover your ass when you sit."
"Not my fault that I wasn't born into a wealthy family that can afford those jackets."
Steve's stomach flips, but he knows Eddie isn't looking for an apology. "Why don't you sit in your van then?"
"Wouldn't want to miss my chance to hang out alone with Steve Harrington," Eddie says with a wink.
Steve nearly scoffs and gives him a snarky reply, but his thoughts go out the window when he notices Eddie's teeth chattering. "Shit," he mutters.
"What was that?"
Steve groans and stands up before unzipping his large jacket.
"Am I in a dream?" Eddie jokes, but his voice shakes a bit.
"You're about to be living one," Steve says dryly as he stands in front of Eddie and opens his coat. Eddie just stares at him. Steve huffs out a breath that becomes visible in the cold air between them. "Come here."
"What?"
Steve raises his eyebrows at Eddie before tugging at his coat. But Eddie continues to stare at him with wide wandering eyes. "I'm not letting you freeze to death up here, so come here before I tell Dustin to pack it up because you're cold."
Eddie crosses his arms a little tighter. "I'm f-fine." A shiver visibly runs through Eddie's body.
Steve rolls his eyes for what feels like the hundreth time this day and wraps Eddie in his jacket before he can protest.
He's stiff for a moment, then Eddie relaxes enough to wrap his arms around Steve who is able to close the jacket around them. They linger in each other's arms long enough that Eddie stops shivering and Steve wonders how much time Dustin has left with Suzie.
"Better?" Steve asks to break the silence.
He feels Eddie nod over his shoulder before he pulls back enough to look him in the eye, nose brushing against Steve's as he whispers, "I know something we could do to keep ourselves warm."
Steve's heart beats a little faster in his chest.
Eddie laughs and tucks his head into Steve neck, his lips far away enough from Steve's that it's no longer the only thing on Steve's mind. With the new brain space, he can feel Eddie drum a nervous rhythm onto his back and bounce a little on his face. He wonders if maybe Eddie was onto the whole scars making them read each other's minds thing because he swears he knows the first part of what Eddie's about to say before he says it.
"Sorry if that was too much. No guy has ever let me flirt at them the way you do."
Steve gets stuck on flirt at and, "No guy?"
Eddie lets out a short humorless laugh. "No guy."
And for some reason, Steve has to ask, "Has any guy let you kiss them before?"
Eddie pulls back to look at him with a frown tugging at the corners of his lips. "What are you getting at, Steve?"
Steve glances at Eddie's lips, slightly chapped but they've never looked more inviting. Maybe it's time to listen to Robin's knowing looks whenever Eddie is around and Steve finds himself simultaneously drawn to him while also wanting to run to the bathroom with Robin to have another floor talk. "What if one guy let you kiss them?"
"Steve..." Eddie whispers, his eyes flicking over his shoulder.
Steve turns to find Dustin, facing away from them. Still he loosens his hold on Eddie and says, "Wrap your arms around my neck instead of my back."
Eddie does as he's told, and Steve gives him no warning before saying, "Hopefully this goes alright." Then, he slightly picks up Eddie before falling back, letting the snow break their fall as he lays back with Eddie on top of him.
"That went better than I thought it would," Steve says with a big smile then asks, "Can Dustin see us?"
Eddie glances up and shakes his head.
"Perfect," Steve says, heart practically beating out of his chest when Eddie looks down at him. When he doesn't make a move, Steve can't help but tease, "So you really are all bark, no bite."
"Shut up, Harrington," Eddie says before finally kissing him.
For only a moment, Steve nearly laughs at the fact that Eddie Munson told him to shut up. But then his brain goes nearly haywire yet completely silent when Eddie's lips meet his in what he thinks might be the single most transformative kiss of his life.
His arms tighten around Eddie's back, and Eddie's hands move to cup the back of his head as they deepen the kiss. Somehow, laying in snow, Steve has never felt warmer.
They eventually break the first kiss reluctantly, both of them going back to steal more as they catch their breath, which turns into laughter and giggles between more kisses. Then, Eddie breaks away long enough to say, "You know, the van is seeming like a really great option at the moment."
"And Dustin's a smart kid. He knows how to not freeze to death," Steve says, kissing Eddie every chance he gets.
"You're right. No need to stay here in the snow," Eddie replies.
"Right."
Neither of them make a move to get up, but they both move to kiss again.
It's only a little while later before they hear Dustin yell out, "Guys?" And that's when they finally break away.
Eddie pops up first and calls out, "Yeah?"
"Let's pack up! It's been over an hour! Come on!"
Steve pulls Eddie back down into the snow one more time for a kiss before stomping up the hill. "Alright, alright. We thought you'd be happier that we gave you more time and that we both waited for you."
"it's cold," Dustin complains.
Steve nods, but he still feels warm.
Eddie joins a few moments later, stealing glances at Steve before asking Dustin what they're doing next.
"I'm thinking we change out of our snow clothes and get food somewhere maybe..." Dustin trails off and frowns at Eddie. "Why are you covered in snow?"
"We were making a snow angel?" Eddie hurriedly says.
Steve tries not to laugh.
"One?" Dustin asks.
Eddie nods. "You'll see it on the way down."
Sure enough, on the way down, they all see one horribly disfigured snow angel.
While Steve laughs and Eddie smiles proudly, Dustin shakes his head and mutters something like more curses to himself. In a volume that's able to be picked up by the other boys, he asks, "Eddie, you'll drop me off at my house, and we'll meet back up in an hour at my house?"
"Hour and a half," Steve says. When Dustin opens his mouth to complain, Steve explains, "I need to take a shower so I don't get pnemonia. Plus, I'm not letting my hair freeze on my way to your house."
"Fine," Dustin sighs. "See you then."
"See you then," Eddie echoes to Steve, winking at him once.
Soon after Steve gets home, he hears a knock on the front door, and when it's Eddie on the other side, Steve pulls him in and says, "Maybe you were right about the telek- tele-"
"Telekentic abilities?"
Steve nods as he closes the door behind Eddie and traps him against it. "I definitely know what you're thinking about now."
Eddie cocks his head to the side and wraps his arms around Steve's neck. "Yeah? What am I thinking about?"
"Kissing me again," Steve says, leaning in.
"Actually," Eddie says turning his head away, "I was thinking about a lemon."
"Crazy. I happen to have lemon scented body wash," Steve comments as he grabs Eddie's hands and tugs him up the stairs.
They're both a little late to Dustin's house. And maybe their hair freezes a bit.
But Dustin was right. There's a lot of things Steve would do for love.

Sharp Tongue
Eddie Munson x Fem!reader
summary: Eddie gets his tongue newly pierced and it becomes your weakness.
warnings: SMUT (+18), oral (f & m), overstimulation, piercings and descriptions of the healing process, afab! reader.
words: around 4k
masterlist

The group is at Steve's. Pizzas are already on the way and the beer is chilling in the fridge. The only thing missing was Eddie. Well, not actually missing. He probably took too long in the shower or stayed listening to his favorite album on repeat and the time flew.
He arrives an hour late, everyone scoffing at him.
"Alright, alright. I have no excuse. But I do have a little surprise" he smiles.
"What is it?" Jonathan asks. Eddie simply sticks his tongue out, showing the little metal bar on his tongue. "What?!"
"Holy shit! Is that real?" Steve looks at his tongue surprisingly.
"Of course it is, Harrington" Eddie smirks. "I got it last week. Hurt like a bitch but it looks sick, right?"
"That’s so cool, let me see it again!" Robin agrees. Eddie sticks his tongue out again.
You don't say anything. You stay frozen, just looking at it amazed.
Eddie wiggles his tongue a little before wincing. "Still sore, no unnecessary movements"
"How are you not in pain?" Nancy asks him.
"I mean, I was. The first few days sucked. Living off of soup and mashed potatoes. But now It's not swollen anymore. I can't eat anything that's not soft, and I can't kiss anyone" he explains. "Not like there's a line of girls waiting to kiss me anyway"
"But since when did you want a tongue piercing?" Nancy asks.
"I mean, why not? Looks metal. Plus, it's supposed to be really fun... in some scenarios"
"You mean... like-"
He interrupts her, with a smirk and a wink. "Exactly what you're thinking, Wheeler"
You almost choke on your drink at that image. The idea of what that piercing could do and how it would feel against-
Robin is so kind to interrupt these thought out of your head, as she sees your flushed cheeks and lost stare.
"You've been suspiciously quiet. Everything okay?"
"Huh? yeah, fine" you shrug.
"What's your verdict, princess. Am I pulling this off or does it look weird?" Eddie asks you.
"I think you're pulling it off" you nod.
He smirks. "Good to know"
"Pizzas are here! and uhh... mashed potatoes for Eddie, I guess" Steve interrupts.
As the pizzas disappear, more cans of beer are opened. You're curled in the corner of the couch, finishing your cup, feeling the blush on your cheeks from the alcohol.
Eddie's sitting next to you. Long legs stretched out and he's leaning back against the couch. And his tongue?
You can clearly see the little metal ball peaking out of his pink lips as he absentmindedly plays with it.
"Eddie, stop that. You weren’t supposed to play with it yet" you tell him.
"Didn't realize I had an audience" he chuckles.
"You don't" you playfully roll your eyes, lying.
Robin and Steve are bickering about something you didn't pay attention to. Nancy and Jonathan having their own quiet conversation.
Eddie nudged your ankle with his. "You okay?"
"Yeah, just tipsy" you smile. "How's your mouth? Swollen?"
"Nah, not anymore. The first few days were torture though. I sounded like I had some dental surgery, real charming"
"Did it hurt more or less than a tattoo?" you ask.
"It's a different kind of pain. A tattoo is like... this dragging burn. The piercing was just one sharp stitch, quick and kinda shocking" he answers your questions. "I'm surprised you're this curious. You usually avoid anything involving blood or needles"
"I dunno. This doesn't look too bad"
"Oh great, thanks" he laughs. "Anything else you wanna know?"
If he only knew everything else you want to know. Like how the contrast with the coldness of the metal and the warmness of his tongue would feel against your skin. How would it feel to kiss him? To play with your tongue against his and feel the little ball making everything even hotter.
You've always wondered how it would be to kiss someone with that piercing... and you've always wondered how it would be to kiss Eddie. Ever since you met him.
But now, the thought of killing two birds with one stone, solving both of your questions, was making you dizzier than the alcohol itself.
“You keep looking at me like that” he murmurs, barely audible.
“Like what?”
“Like you want to know something” he tilts his head, a crooked grin forming.
You should lie, laugh it off. Should say it’s the alcohol, the fact that he’s loud and hard to ignore. But you don't.
Instead, you take another sip and lean in a little, the alcohol giving you the courage and guts.
“I guess I’ve always wondered…” you say softly. “what it would be like”
His expression shifts, eyes darkening, his grin faltering at the edges. “What what would be like?”
“Kissing someone with a tongue piercing”
There it is. No flirtation, no sarcasm. Just truth. Eddie doesn’t say anything. He just stares, his fingers tightening around his bottle.
You continue, a little bolder now. “People say it makes everything feel more intense. Maybe the metal adds pressure” Your gaze drops to his mouth. “Makes everything feel even better”
Eddie swallows hard, forgets how to breathe.
Now they're both imagining, picturing, letting your minds run wild. Every place that piercing could go. The heat of his mouth dragging over skin, the pressure of metal.
You're painting a picture, making him your muse. And he's ready to frame it and hang it on his wall.
“You really think about that stuff?” his voice is hoarse.
“Sometimes" you shrug, smirking. “I’m just curious”
“Curious” he repeats, like it’s the most obscene word he’s ever heard. "You know I can't kiss anyone yet"
"No, I know" You lean back against the couch. “I’m just saying, it’s a really interesting piercing”
Eddie clenches his jaw.
"One week” he mutters.
"Until what?”
“Until I can"
You didn't want to overthink what Eddie had said. You were both drinking. Tipsy, flirty. But you've been friends for a while now, there's no way he was really going to throw all that out the window for a hot night together... as hot as that night would be.
By Thursday of the following week, you were going to The Hideout with the group. Eddie was playing with his band and you always came to see him every once in a while.
Once the show is over and the music inside the bar shifts to its usual rock playlist, Eddie comes back down to greet everyone. His cheeks are pink, voice still hoarse from his singing.
You can feel him before you see him. He sits next to you at the tiny table that was definitely meant for less than six people to sit on. So of course his leg is constantly touching yours. Your shoulders brush everytime you lean to grab your drink.
Eddie melts casually into the conversation, like usual. But he still hasn't said a word directly to you since he sat down.
You reach to grab some chips from the table and you bump his arm.
"Sorry" you whisper.
He finally looks at you, grin on. "You keep saying that everytime we touch"
"Maybe we should stop sitting too close" you grin too.
"Maybe I like it" he adds. Then, his hand goes down rest on your thigh. Your heart skips a beat. "You remember everything from last week?"
"I remember a lot of things" you say.
"Oh, yeah?" he hums.
"I remember you were drunk"
"So were you"
"Exactly"
"So you think I didn't mean any of it?"
"I think you wouldn't throw away our friendship just because we drank too much and sat too close"
"Is that was it was to you? A mistake?"
"I didn't say that" you correct him, but your moment of tension is cut off by Steve, not even realizing what he was doing.
"So, Munson, how's the tongue?"
"God, don't phrase it like that" Robin cringes.
"Oh, my tongue? Wouldn't you wanna know, Harrington?" Eddie grins wide and leans back, and arm going behind his head to scratch his head. He doesn't know it (or maybe he actually does) but his shirt lifts up, letting you get a peak of his happy trail. Good God.
Steve rolls his eyes. "The piercing, idiot"
"It's all healed up. No infection. I even checked with my piercer and he gave me the green light"
"Can you eat properly now?" Robin asks him.
"Yup, I've been having pizza for two days straight now. I've missed it so much"
The silver ball appears from between his lips, rolling from one corner to the other. He's playing with it, obviously. Constantly. Like a nervous tic... or maybe a provocation.
"I mean... technically, now I could kiss anyone at this bar if I wanted" he adds. "And even more than kissing"
"Jesus, alright. We get the picture" Nancy groans.
And just like that, your mind is already spiriling again, taking you to a corner in your brain where Eddie's mouth is not talking, teasing, and joking around. It's exploring, tasting, pressing, flicking.
You clear your throat and look away, pretending to focus on anything else.
"Alright, I'm going out for a smoke" Eddie stands up and grabs his cigarettes. He looks up for a second and calls your name. "Could you be a doll and join me outside? You know, so I'm not all alone and defenseless out there"
You hesitate. Something tells you to avoid this. But then again, part of you has been waiting for this moment.
"Back in a sec" you murmur to the rest as you stand up as well.
Outside, Eddie leans back against the brick wall and lights his cigarette.
"Defenseless, really?" you ask.
"I mean, I can't afford a bodyguard yet, so you'll have to do" he jokes.
You roll your eyes. But the joke doesn't last. Eddie takes another drag and exhales, his eyes not leaving your face.
"I meant what I said the other night" he admits. "I only told you that being drunk because sober me's a coward"
"You're not a coward"
"The filter just dropped there, that's all" he pauses. "I haven't stopped thinking about you. About that night and how you looked at me. And you're pretending it didn't mean anything"
"I'm not pretending, I'm trying to protect what we have"
"I know, but what if we miss the chance of something real?" He walks closer to you. "I'm not gonna kiss you. Not because I don't want to. I do. God, I do."
"Then why not?"
"Because I want you to believe me first"
You stay looking at him, thinking. Eddie takes a step back, like the conversation is over, and takes another hit.
He's about to talk but you beat him to it.
"Eddie"
He turns, quiet. And you walk over to him without thinking too much about it.
"I haven't stopped thinking about that night either" you admit. "I keep picturing it. You playing with that stupid piercing like you're doing right now"
He hadn't realized he was. His tongue stops, subconsciously.
"I imagine what it would feel like," you whisper, stepping closer. "against my lips"
"Jesus" he sighs.
"Against my skin. I wonder what it would be like to kiss it. To play with it. with my tongue" you keeps whispering.
He calls your name like a warning.
"What? You wanted honesty"
"This is not fair"
"I know what I want. And I wanted to be sure you wanted it too"
"I do, so badly"
"You said you could kiss anyone you wanted tonight, right?"
"Yeah" he says, jaw tense.
"Then why don't we stop playing around it... and finally see what it feels like?"
It takes him less than a second. He doesn't hesitates and he moves.
Hands on you and he kisses you like he's been waiting months to do it. It's rough at first, urgent. Like he's afraid if he doesn't kiss you now, he'll never get the chance again.
Your back hits the wall softly as you melt into him. Arms around his neck. And it's everything you imagined.
The metal feels a bit cold at first, in contrast with his hot, soft and slow tongue. He deepens the kiss, flicking the piercing slightly against your bottom lip.
A sound escapes your throat at that.
"Well?" he smirks.
"It's... better than I imagined"
"Did you imagine a lot, sweetheart?" he smirks as he hugs you.
You don’t rush back in.
Not when Eddie has you pressed against the brick wall like it’s the only place in the world he wants to be. Not when he’s still kissing you like he can’t quite believe this is real.
Every flick of that piercing, teasing the corner of your mouth, your tongue, dipping down to your jaw.
Eddie pulls back just a little, lips dragging to your cheek, then lower, to the curve of your jaw, then your neck.
And then he mutters against your skin, voice rough and low: “If you want we can keep testing how this thing works later” He pulls back to look at you. “I mean, purely scientific purposes; research, discovery"
“You’re ridiculous” you whisper, chucking.
He kisses you again. Slower and softer.
Then, he pulls away and smooths his hand down your arm. “C’mon, let’s go back before they start missing us”
You walk back in trying to act casual... you failed.
You hadn't notice that your hair was noticeably more tangled, lipstick no longer present. Instead, the tinted red was now on Eddie's lips and the corners of his mouth. His hair a mess... even more than usual.
And they all notice. Everyone.
Steve spots you first. “No. No way.” He slams his hand on the table. “You two?”
“Oh my God" Robin laughs looking at Eddie's face.
“Do we all need to go outside for a smoke break now?” Jonathan acts scared, jokingly.
Eddie just shrugs and slides back into his seat like nothing happened.
“I mean...” he starts with a grin. “I told you I could kiss anyone I wanted tonight"
You sit down without a word.
“I told you I was defenseless,” Eddie adds, “she just took full advantage”
You roll your eyes.
"So? Does the piercing work?" Robin jokes.
"Oh, it works" you smirk.
The parking lot feels cold. The group spills out of the bar, putting on jackets and still laughing about some dumb joke.
Nancy and Jonathan get to her car, ready to go back home.
Steve grabs his keys and walks up to his car. "Alright ladies, I promised I'd get you two home" he refers to you and Robin.
You dig in your purse for your keys when you hear: "Or..."
You turn to the metalhead behind you, standing by his van.
"You could ride with me" he offers.
"Mmh, pros and cons?" you ask.
"You already know what I'm offering" he gives you a cocky smirk. "I told you we could keep testing things"
"Oh" Robin's eyes shot up.
"Sorry Steve, thanks for the offer though" you walk towards the van with a playful smile.
"Don't worry, Stevie" Eddie smirks, openening the passenger door for you. "I'll make sure she gets home... eventually"
Steve rolls his eyes and sighs, getting on his car.
As Eddie drives out of the parking lot, your friends yell: "Wrap it up, Munson!; Use protection!"
Once you arrive at Eddie's place, the door clicks shut behind you. The trailer is quiet. Eddie tosses his keys on the counter and turns to look at you.
He's like a wolf with its prey. His innocent and pretty lamb just waiting for him to devour her. His eyes raking over you. The silver ball still peaking out in between his lips while he stares at you.
"You look nervous" he murmurs, stepping closer.
"I'm not"
He smirks at that. "You're gorgeous, you know?"
"Just come here and kiss me" you chuckle.
That's all it takes, his hand finds your hair and his mouth is on yours before you know it.
You start making out. That metal ball right where you wanted it, agaisnt your own tongue, making you chase the feeling of it.
His hands sliding down your waist, gripping your hips like he means to leave marks.
He walks you backwards, step by step, never breaking the kiss. Until you hit the edge of his bed and drop onto it.
He just stares at you for a moment.
“Wanna keep going?” he asks, raspy voice. And you nod. “That’s not a yes”
“Yes" you whisper.
He's on you again in a second, kissing you harder, with his hands all over you.
Then, his mouth moves south to your neck. Open-mouthed kisses to make sure you feel the metal.
You can't really register when exactly your shoes came off. If it was before or after your shirt was tugged over your head. Everything blurs around the way Eddie's hands grip you, or his mouth moves lower and lower on your throat, chest, stomach. Until it reaches your thighs.
He looks up at you with those botton eyes and you're not sure if he knows the effect they have on you. His hair brushes over your skin as he settles in between your legs, and the sight of him there —eager, ruined already.
His mouth is everywhere, slow at first, like he wants to savor your reactions —every twitch, every gasp, every whispered 'Eddie' that slips out. And that piercing is not just decoration.
It gets impossibly hot pressed against you in the best places. He flicks it, then drags it slow just to hear you.
You fist on those poor cushions. He grins against you, tongue insistent, fingers gripping your hips to keep you still.
Round one hits like a storm. Your thighs already trembling on his shoulders, his name repeated on your lips as you cum.
But he doesn’t stop. Doesn’t even give you time to think.
Round two is worse (or better). He's slower now. "You taste like fucking candy, sweetheart" he mutters, voice wrecked and low, sending you vibrations.
He uses his tongue flat, the piercing catching right on your clit, flicking it every two seconds. You're twitching, begging, already falling apart again.
When you finish for the second time, your mind is blank, eyes glassy.
He nips at the inside of thigh, mutters things against your skin you can't even hear.
And you think he’ll stop now.
He doesn’t.
By round three, you're gasping his name loudly. You're so sentisive that you could just start crying.
And he's not even close to done.
“Still with me, baby?” he murmurs, mouth hovering just above you. “You got one more?”
You nod, enthusiastic.
And he dives in again —addicted.
By the end, you're not sure if you're moaning or sobbing, maybe both. Your hips held tight in his hands while he licks through the waves of your orgasm.
And when he finally pulls back, he's got your slick down to his chin and all over his cheeks, that metal glinting in the low light, his hair wild, and a dangerous look in his eyes.
“Jesus, that was the best” he whispers, licking his lips.
You just reach for him and pull him up to another kiss.
Eddie goes to lie half on top of you, his arms around your waist, hair sticking to his cheeks, and his cheeks are flustered.
He could only describe you as a beatiful mess beneath him, bare and flustered, still catching her breath.
"I could use a cigarette now" he smirks and looks in his nightstand. Your gaze drops to the very obvious state of his jeans.
Tight. Painfully so.
The outline of him is already big.
You reach down and lightly brush your fingers over the bulge. He practically jumps.
He warns, calling your name.
You only tilt your head, voice teasing. "You really thought we were over?"
He groans, hiding his face in your neck. “I'm happy with what we did already”
"Yeah?" you grin, push him back a little, trailing your hand down his chest, toying with the hem of his shirt. “Well… but look at you”
He exhales, jaw clenching. “Don’t do that unless you mean it"
“Oh, I mean it,” you whisper, palming him over the denim now, watching the way his hips twitch towards you. “You’ve been walking around all night with that piercing like you invented sex. Thought we were done?"
He laughs, breathless, then moans as you unbutton his pants slowly, dragging the zipper down. He’s twitching, hard and thick, and so big.
And when you get your mouth on him, he moans louder.
"Fuck, sweetheart-"
You work him over with your tongue, taking your time, teasing, savoring. You want to make a mess out of him too.
Your tongue curls on his pink head, while you stroke the base.
And when you look up at him, mouth slick, eyes gleaming? Eddie loses it.
Groaning, head back, fingers fisting the sheets and your hair with the other hand. He whispers a string of curses and sweet nothings that make you want to ruin him.
"You're so good, baby. You're gonna make me cum, ruin that cute little face and make it mine"
He pushes you down slowly, further, so you're taking all of him.
"That’s a good girl, take all of it. God"
And when he finally comes, thighs trembling, moaning your name, you can only smile, licking your lips, and murmur:
“Now we’re even"
Eddie blinks, dazed. Then laughs, low and panting.
"So did you like the piercing?" he gives you a big smile when you go and lay next to him.
"Like is an understatement" you chuckle.
"Oh yeah?" he grabs your cheeks and gives you a quick kiss.
"Yeah, I might have a few other ideas we could try out"
"Oh, I like the sound of that," he gives you another kiss, "I have some ideas of my own too"
"Then we better get to it, big boy"
"We most definitely will, pretty girl"

When Steve’s phone rings in the middle of the night, he wakes up with a start.
He’s out of the bed and running down the stairs in seconds, his brain going through countless nightmarish scenarios as he wonders who could be calling him so late, and more importantly, why.
Steve reaches the phone on the last ring, panting into the receiver, slightly out of breath. “Hello?”
He expects anyone from Robin to Dustin or one of the kids on the other side. Maybe Nancy or Eddie. He even entertains the thought of his parents being the ones calling, maybe to inform him that they’re staying away for another week–
“Harrington?”
He expects literally anyone except for the person he hears on the other end of the line.
Eyebrows knitted together, Steve stares at the phone like it’s somehow playing a prank on him. “Gareth?”
It is, in fact, Gareth who sighs in relief and says, “Oh, thank fuck you’re awake.”
So he was actually calling Steve, he didn’t accidentally dial his number– but why would Gareth want to reach him in the middle of the night?
It’s true that in the last couple of months, Steve has spent plenty of time with Eddie’s friends– a direct consequence of him and Eddie growing close. He’s been to their shows at The Hideout and hung out with them during band rehearsals or Hellfire meetings. By now, they don’t act surprised when Steve shows up and they’ll even strike up a conversation with him, having finally accepted that Steve actually likes Eddie and isn’t trying to prank him. However, that acceptance hardly translates to being the kind of friends who call each other in the middle of the night or at any hour for that matter, not unless–
Unless something happened to Eddie.
Steve’s stomach churns at the thought. “Why? What happened? Is everything okay? Is Eddie–”
“Dude, calm down,” Gareth interrupts with a snort. “Eddie’s fine. Thought you jocks were supposed to be chill and laid back, man.”
“Fuck off, Emerson,” Steve snarks, pinching the bridge of his nose as he wills his heart to stop hammering, repeating Gareth’s words in his head– Eddie’s fine, Eddie’s fine, Eddie’s fine.
“Geez, remind me to never interrupt your beauty sleep again,” he says with a laugh, the sound almost muffled by the noise in the background. There’s actually a lot of noise coming from the other end of the line and Steve wonders where Gareth is calling him from.
And why.
“So if this isn’t about Eddie, then why are you calling me?”
“I didn’t say this wasn’t about Eddie,” Gareth retorts, confusing Steve further.
“I thought you said he was fine–”
“And he is, but he’s also a pain in the ass.”
Steve can’t help but snort. “You’re his best friend, you should know that by now. What makes you think I can do something about that?”
It’s Gareth’s turn to snort. “Please, man, you could bat your eyelashes and get Eddie to do whatever. Under normal circumstances, at least.”
Stomach fluttering at Gareth’s words, Steve feels himself blush. “Uh, what do you mean– ‘normal circumstances’?”
“Well, your boy is currently drunk off his ass,” he explains. More color creeps up on his cheeks when Gareth calls Eddie his boy. He’s infinitely grateful that they’re having this conversation on the phone. “And he’s asking for you.”
“Me?”
“Mhm, he says he’s not leaving until Steve– sorry, Stevie comes to pick him up.”
The nickname sounds weird coming from Gareth, who only ever refers to him as Harrington and it makes Steve scrunch up his nose.
The noise in the background suddenly grows louder before it becomes slightly muffled again. Someone probably opened the door of whatever place Gareth is holed up in. “Where are you guys?”
“The Hideout. Had to talk Lenny into letting me use the phone in the back, now I owe him.” In the background, Steve hears a gagging sound, and then Gareth adds, “I’d like to not owe him a new couch if Eddie throws up on this one, so can you come get him?”
Steve checks the clock hanging from the wall. It’s twenty minutes past midnight. “Are you serious, man?”
“Well, I didn’t call you just to chat, Harrington.”
Ignoring the remark, he says, “Can’t you just drag him out of there?”
Eddie’s friends are all nerds not jocks, but Eddie is also built like a twig. If they set their minds to it, they probably can move him to one of their cars.
“And take him where? He might suffocate if we drop him off at the trailer.”
“Then take him back to yours.”
“Yeah, no. My parents are home. Can’t do that, man. ‘Sides, I told you. He refuses to go with us. Hear for yourself.”
He must hold the phone away from his ear because suddenly, Steve can hear Jeff trying to talk someone into getting in the car.
“No!” Another voice says. Eddie’s voice, a stubborn tilt to it that Steve has heard before, as well as a faint slur to his words.
“Eddie, come on,” Jeff insists with a sigh.
“No, Jeffrey, I’m not leaving without Stevie,” Eddie says, his voice becoming softer when he says Steve’s name.
“Eddie, Steve isn’t here,” Dougie says, probably not for the first time. “He didn’t come tonight.”
“Why?” Eddie asks, and even through the phone, Steve can hear his pout.
Eddie knows that Steve wanted to go to their show tonight. He’a not one to miss seeing him on stage. He told him as much before explaining that he had already promised to have dinner with Robin and her parents.
But that doesn’t stop Eddie from sounding miserable about Steve not being there.
“I don’t know, dude,” Jeff says, fumbling for an answer. “But hey, he can come to the next one.”
Eddie sighs loudly. “I miss him.”
“You literally saw him yesterday at rehearsal, man,” Dougie says in a bored tone.
“Well, I want to see him now!” Eddie snaps. “And I’m not leaving until he gets here!”
“He’s not coming–” Jeff starts, but he’s interrupted by Eddie yelling so loud Steve flinches away from the phone.
“I want Steeeeeve!”
He can’t hear what Jeff or Dougie say to him because Gareth presses the phone back against his ear. “See? He’s close to chaining himself to the door, man. Do us all a favor and come get him.”
Steve sighs, brushing his hair back. It does sound like Eddie isn’t changing his mind any time soon, and even if the guys manage to get him in a car, he doesn’t like the idea of a drunk Eddie being alone in his trailer.
He’s also a weak man for Eddie, and hearing how much he misses him makes it impossible for him to say no.
“Okay, fine. Fine. I’m on my way.”
“Sweet! Thanks, Harrington,” Gareth says, then without hanging up the phone, he says, “Hear that, Eddie? Your Stevie is on his way!”
There’s the sound of clumsy footsteps followed by some swearing as the phone is wrestled out of Gareth’s hand, and then Eddie’s voice– “Stevie?”
“Hey, Eds,” he says, his own voice softening.
“Are you really coming or is Gare fucking with me?”
Steve chuckles as he pictures Eddie glaring at Gareth. “He’s not, I’m coming to get you. He says you’re being a pain in his ass.”
“The only ass I want to be a pain in is yours, big boy,” he retorts, pitching his voice lower seductively before letting out a snigger.
Steve thinks he hears Gareth snort in the background, but he can’t be sure because of the blood rushing through his ears at Eddie’s words.
“Um, I’ll– I’ll see you soon, okay?” he says when he fails to come up with a reply. “Drink some water in the meantime, please?”
“Anything for you, sweetheart,” Eddie purrs and sends Steve’s stomach flip flopping. There’s a sudden loud noise as Eddie unceremoniously drops the phone, yelling at Jeff to get him some water.
Steve is about to hang up so he can head out when Gareth picks the phone back up. “Guess even in these circumstances you can get him to do anything,” he teases, and Steve doesn’t know him that well, but he thinks he can hear the smirk on his lips.
Steve sputters uselessly. “Just– keep him alive until I get there, Emerson.”
“Sure thing, Your Highness,” he says mockingly, hanging up without another word.
***
Steve goes upstairs to change. He doesn’t plan on staying at The Hideout longer than it’ll take to drag Eddie out of there, but there’s no way he’s showing up in his sleeping clothes.
After trading his shorts for jeans, Steve’s hands hesitate on the hem of his shirt– a Metallica shirt that Eddie let him borrow one night and that Steve never gave back, enjoying how comfortable it was, and how it smelled like Eddie. He doesn’t know if Eddie noticed it went missing and didn’t say anything about it or if he thinks it’s somewhere in his closet or in the numerous piles of clothes scattered around his room.
Steve considers if he should change out of it just to keep the secret a little longer, in case Eddie will ask for it back. He figures that he’s going to be too drunk to remember what Steve is wearing, and it’ll probably make him stand out less amongst the Friday crowd at The Hideout.
So he grabs his jacket and fixes his hair and slips outside, towards his car.
***
The drive to The Hideout goes by quickly and Steve barely runs into any cars. He parks as close to the dingy bar as he can, not knowing how easy it will be to get Eddie on his feet. Inside, he heads towards the back. He’s never been to Lenny’s office but he guesses it must be the one door that he can see through the thinning crowd.
After he knocks, the door swings open almost immediately, revealing Dougie, who has never looked happier to see Steve. “Fucking finally!”
Behind him, Steve can see Eddie sprawled on a ratty old couch, snoring softly. Jeff and Gareth are sitting on the floor, playing cards and occasionally shooting glances at Eddie to make sure he’s still breathing.
They both look up when Dougie speaks, sighing in relief when they see him.
Steve wiggles his fingers. “Hey, guys.”
“Took you long enough,” Gareth says, grabbing the cards and pushing himself to his feet.
“You called me like, twenty minutes ago,” Steve points out in a bitchy tone. He thinks he’s allowed to be bitchy– Gareth woke him up in the middle of the night after all.
“Yeah, well. I’ve been dealing with a drunk, mopey Eddie all night and I’m done. You’re up, Harrington.”
He clasps Steve’s shoulder on his way out, following Dougie. Jeff walks up to Steve, handing him what appears to be Eddie’s leather jacket. “Gare is driving the van to his house, so just let Eddie know he can come pick it up after he recovers from the bitch of a hangover that awaits him.”
“Yeah, I’ll tell him,” Steve says, grabbing the jacket, his eyes on Eddie. “Thanks for looking after him.”
Jeff gives a half shrug. “Thanks for taking him off our hands.”
“I thought he didn’t drink after shows–” Steve says, watching the way Eddie’s hair flutters every time he breathes.
He thinks about the first time he saw Eddie perform, and how he declined Steve’s offer to buy him a beer after the show, claiming that the high from the show was all he needed to have a good night.
Jeff opens and closes his mouth a few times, unsure of what to say. “He doesn’t– at least not since you started coming to our shows.”
And with that, he clasps Steve’s shoulder the same way Gareth did and leaves the room before Steve can ask what he means.
Steve decides he will overthink what Jeff said, as well as Gareth saying Eddie was mopey and the fact that the only person Eddie seemed to be asking for was Steve, later. For now, he crouches down next to Eddie and smoothes his hair down. It’s a mess, probably from all the headbanging Eddie did on stage and his fingers get caught a few times.
“Eds, hey.”
Eddie groans and his face scrunches up. For a moment, Steve worries he’s about to throw up, but instead he slowly blinks his eyes open.
When Steve finally comes into focus, Eddie begins to smile. “Stevie?”
“Yeah, it’s me.”
“You’re here?”
“Told you I’d come get you.”
Eddie’s eyebrows knit together. “Thought I dreamed that.”
“No, man,” Steve says, pinching Eddie’s side gently. “I’m really here.”
The pinch isn’t enough to convince Eddie he’s there because he reaches out and pokes Steve’s cheek. His eyes widen. “Oh, hi.”
“Hey.”
“I missed you,” he says and Steve’s stomach flutters. He’s glad that Eddie’s friends aren’t here to see Eddie softly tracing Steve’s face with his fingertips with a lazy smile on his face. It would get them teased for weeks.
“Christ, Eds,” Steve chuckles, heat building up on his cheeks at the touch. “How much did you have to drink?”
“Don’t remember,” Eddie mumbles, his expression pinched. “Wasn’t the same– without you here. Thought drinking would make me feel good. As good as you make me feel–”
So Eddie was drinking because he was missing him, Steve was the reason why Eddie was both drunk and mopey. He bites his lip, wondering if it means what he wants it to mean.
“But I– I don’t feel so good now,” Eddie continues and Steve shelves that for later.
“Okay, let’s get you home,” he says, standing up and offering his hands to Eddie. When he takes them– missing the first couple of times thanks to his hand-eye coordination being even more off than usual– Steve pulls him to his feet. Unsurprisingly, Eddie sways a little and Steve grabs onto his elbows to keep him upright. “You okay to walk?”
Eddie’s eyes sparkle as they focus on Steve. “Gonna carry me to your car if I say no, big boy?” He asks with an eyebrow waggle.
Steve gives a little shrug. “I already did that once, didn’t I?” Back when he carried Eddie out of the Upside Down.
Eddie shakes his head, sways a little more. “Doesn’t count. I barely remember.”
“You’ll barely remember this,” Steve snorts. “Come on.”
He circles Eddie’s waist with his arm and loops Eddie’s around his shoulder. A giggle slips past his lips and Steve is hit by the smell of alcohol.
“Christ, Eddie, you smell like a distillery.”
Another giggle. “And you smell–” Eddie pauses and sniffs Steve. “Huh, you smell like me.”
Steve tenses up as Eddie’s eyes travel down to his chest, recognizing what he’s wearing. “Is that my shirt?”
Steve flushes deeply. “Y–yeah.”
“Hm. I wondered where that went.”
“I can give it back–” Steve starts but Eddie shakes his head firmly.
“It looks better on you anyway, sweetheart,” he says with a wink that looks more like he got something caught in his eye.
It still makes Steve’s breath catch. “Alright, boozy,” he says, “let’s go.”
Eddie sniggers. “Boozy.”
***
Slowly and clumsily, they make their way to the car. Eddie almost faceplants a couple of times but Steve manages to keep him upright.
He fits Eddie into the passenger seat of the car, fumbling a little with his seatbelt with Eddie’s soft brown eyes peering up at him so closely.
When it finally clicks into place, Eddie gives him a lazy grin. “Thanks, pretty boy,” he says and Steve has to take a few deep breaths before circling the car and sliding into his seat.
He drives them away from the bar, occasionally sending glances towards Eddie to check if he’s feeling sick but it actually looks like he’s sleeping.
Which is why Steve is surprised when he asks, “We’re not going to the trailer?”
“No, you’re coming home with me,” Steve says, his eyes darting between Eddie and the road.
“Damn, Harrington, at least buy me dinner first!” He jokes with a playful grin.
Steve lets out a snort. “Just trying to make sure you don’t die in your sleep, Munson.”
“Aw, you care about me!” He exclaims giddily.
Smiling affectionately, Steve says, “Dude, I literally love you.”
There’s a beat of silence in which Steve wishes desperately that Eddie somehow didn’t hear what he just said.
“You– what?”
No such luck, Steve laments. “Nothing.”
“No, not nothing! You said you love me!” He insists. Steve’s admission seems to have sobered him up– he’s staring at Steve with wide and alert eyes.
Steve grits his teeth together and looks back at the road, gripping the steering wheel tight.
“Stevie, pull over.”
He ignores him and keeps driving.
“Pull over, Steve,” Eddie says, “ or I’m going to be sick all over your fancy car!”
Cursing, Steve pulls over on the side of the road. “Well?” He says when Eddie doesn’t move. He glances at him– he looks fine.
“I lied,” he says with a shrug. “I just wanted you to stop the car.”
Steve drops his head against the steering wheel. “Eddie.”
“Stevie.”
With a sigh, he peers at him. “What?”
“Do you really love me?”
Steve can’t bring himself to lie but he’s still nervous to confirm it. “Yeah.”
Eddie squeaks– then starts fumbling with his seatbelt unsuccessfully.
“What are you doing?”
“I love you too!” Eddie says urgently. “And as soon as I slay this seatbelt beast I will kiss you–”
Steve’s heart flutters at the thought but reaches for Eddie’s hand and stops him. “Woah, Eddie, stop.”
“What? You don’t want to kiss me?” Eddie asks with a pout.
“I do, but you’re drunk and you just told me you were gonna throw up!”
There’s also a part of him that worries Eddie might not remember about any of this. And if he doesn’t, Steve doesn’t think he can come back from it after having kissed.
Eddie hmphs, slumping against the seat, looking put out.
“But tomorrow morning we can–” Steve starts.
“Kiss?” Eddie interjects eagerly.
“Talk,” Steve sputters. “But yeah, if you remember this, we can kiss.”
His stomach flutters wildly at the thought and how Eddie glances st his lips in anticipation. “I’ll remember,” he says, the corners of his mouth ticking up. “And then, I’ll kiss the hell out of you, Steve Harrington.”
Steve gulps, catching the way his cheeks turn red in the rearview mirror as he steers the Beemer back onto the road, driving them home.
***
The next day, Steve is making breakfast when he hears footsteps on the stairs. He turns around and immediately gets an armful of Eddie.
“I remember,” he says, looping his arms around Steve’s neck. “And I brushed my teeth,” he adds, shooting Steve a beaming smile. “And I love you, so can I kiss you now?”
Steve laughs, wrapping his arms around Eddie’s waist, and tells him– “Yes.”

wc: 3.4k
summary: After finding a cat on your walk, Steve happens to be one of the many doors you knock on trying to find the owner. He's even kind enough to let you in.
cw: slight Nancy hate (barely any), mentions of wounds/cuts, nothing rlly!
a/n: who wants to send requests to a girl that has severe writers block? anyone?

Taking walks always helps you feel better. It was something about the way the sun did more for you than any medication could.
It was a perfect temperature out, warm from the sun but a nice cool breeze. And since you've been walking for so long you are in a neighborhood you've never seen. It has vines and flowers that cling to the bright white fences. If the greenery didn't tell you the type of neighborhood you were in, the houses definitely did. Each house was way bigger than your own and some even had nice cars parked out front of it.
This was just one of the perks of walking, seeing places you wouldn't see normally, even if it's just some rich neighborhood. Daydreams of someday possibly owning a house like these or decorating your own home with vines and flowers. It was something that easily calmed you down, none of the stresses from your present life taking up your mind when you were walking. Sometimes you even listened to music but when the sun is out the birds chirp.
And thankfully today was a day you didn't listen to music, because if you did you wouldn't have heard the meowing of a cat.
It made your head turn so quickly and when you spotted a small cat you immediately bent down to its level. Letting out a hand slowly for it to come to and sniff. Once it got closer you could see a pink collar, a small metal heart was attached to it.
When it started sniffing your hand you moved closer to look at the collar, there was no address or number on it, only adorning the name ‘Pepper’. The name fits pretty well as you notice the black cat with small brown feet.
After bending down for a few minutes petting Pepper your knees start to hurt. The collar seems to be for more fashion purpose than safety which makes you think she belongs to someone in the neighborhood, so safe and secure a cat wouldn't even dream of getting out.
But unfortunately Pepper did, so now your walk is interrupted by the task of going door to door in hopes of finding the owner.
Pepper is only concerned with pets and the way she rubs her head against your knee gives you enough confidence to pick her up. A purr is quick to come out as your hand goes back to scratching her chin.
You wish Pepper would have found you on a day that the sun didn't make you look shiny or one you had a better outfit on. Not really planning on seeing anyone, let alone talking to people. But after a quick pep talk on how you don't live here and will never see them again you begin your search.
Pepper isn't a cat that misses treats and your arms are starting to weaken the more you hold her. When you knock on the front door of a house right in front of you, you set her down. You wish you could keep her yourself, she sits so perfectly next to you. Maybe being rich means you also get lucky with extremely well behaved pets.
When the door opens you are met with an older woman who has diamond earrings paired with a pearl necklace.
“I don't want to buy anything.” She says as she closes the door in your face.
If this is her cat, Pepper wasn't quick to walk in when the door was open. And her rude response means she doesn't deserve a cat, so you walk to the next house.
By the fourth house you were getting tired of carrying her. Maybe this is the world telling you, you need a new cat. Maybe after the fifth house you could take her to the vet to see if she's microchipped.
You have a horrible wish that no one here knows this cat and she can be yours. It’s now been about an hour with her and already she’s become your shadow. Walking with you, following you wherever you go.
The fifth house you walk to has two doors and a nice red car parked in the driveway. You press the doorbell before bending down to pet the cat who’s meowing loudly at your side.
“Okay Pepper, this is the last house we are gonna try. You must be so hungry huh?” Her meow translated to a ‘yes’ in your mind.
Before you get a chance to get up the door is opened. It makes you jump to your feet quickly. A boy holding an ice pack to his face is in front of you.
“Can I help you?”
“Hi, um, yes. I found this cat on a walk and I've gone to multiple houses but she doesn't belong to any of them. I was wondering if you knew where she lived or maybe if she was yours.” Pepper isn't his, you know that by the fact that he didn't pick her up once he saw her, there was no relief in his eyes that a girl had found a cat. But still you continue to ramble on.
“Not mine, and I don't think she's from this street. I couldn't tell you much more about the block over though.” He leans his arm against the door frame which makes his bicep prominent. The other hand holds the ice pack.
“Oh, okay.” You’re beginning to feel defeated. There might be someone out there missing her.
“You gonna keep her?” Steve’s head is really starting to hurt him. The bright sun and standing up for a long time is not a good mix. But the cat seems sweet and despite the shit he just went through with Jonathan, he does have a heart, one that wants the cat in a safe place.
“I mean I want to. She’s been my little shadow for the past hour. I don't know, do you think that’s bad?” You aren't sure why you're asking him what he thinks but really there's no one else for you to ask.
He lets out a groan as he pulls the ice pack down from his face. He doesn't miss the little ‘holy shit’ you mutter in surprise. The blood is no doubt all dried up and dark now, Steve only got home a hour or so ago, not yet cleaning the wound.
“If there's no address or number on the collar that's the owners fault, it’s just a cat s’not like you’re stealing a million dollars.” He should shut the door, go lay down and think of a way to apologize to Nancy but he’s weirdly invested into this.
“Are you okay?” You pick at your nail as you say it. Like you know it's none of your business but something inside of you couldn't help but ask.
“My girlfriend got a new boyfriend.” He states plainly. A joke that really isn't a joke.
“Oh, well, you might want to clean it.” You say pointing to your own face. “Infections are awful, and can ruin nice faces.”
This makes the boy smile. Still with all the blood and open gashes he looks really pretty.
“You think I have a nice face?”
“I really need to find Pepper's owner. Are you sure she doesn't live around here?” He’s really the only house so far to give you the time of day, so you're taking all you can get.
“Is that her name? Pepper?” You nod wanting him to give you the green light that she is in fact not from around here and you can take her home.
“People around here don't have kids, let alone pets.” Steve only knows this because if there were kids around here he would have tried to befriend them, only left to be utterly alone instead.
“I think I might keep her, i'd rather her get a good home then leave her out here to go back to where she came from.”
“Well no one around here has enough heart to love a cat, my guess is she is from a different area.” He gives you a light shrug also looking down at her.
“Are you saying you don't have enough heart to own a cat?” He does live ‘around here’ as he said.
All the boy does is let out a laugh at your question. Pepper is starting to pant beside you. The heat must be getting to her, you wonder if he could get her a little bowl of water or maybe that's too much for someone who just got the shit beat out of him.
“Is she thirsty?” He asks, pointing to Pepper. Maybe he can read your thoughts.
An idea pops into your head and comes out just as quick. Too quick for you to think it over.
“Would it be possible if she could get some water? I can even help bandage you up if you need it.” Your house isn't very close on foot and the walk will be even longer with a cat. She needs water, you're positive she would ask for it herself if she could.
His eyes widen, well really one eye– the other is slightly swollen. You can tell he wasn't expecting you to ask that. Knocking on doors to help a cat has really changed things around.
He doesnt want some stranger touching up on him that doesn't know what they are doing. But why would you offer if you didn't know? The sun must be getting to you too, as you lift your hair up Steve could see the way the nape of your neck was slightly damp.
And he may only have one real working eye right now but he could still see how pretty you are. Soft pink lips pressed together into a kind smile as you're halfway bent over trying to pet the cat but also showing him that he has your full attention.
It’s a risk to have a stranger come into a house but at this point Steve feels like you wouldn't even hurt a fly. You are kind enough to find a house for some street cat. It really doesn't hurt to have a pretty girl help bandage a few cuts right?
“Alright, yeah, fair trade.” He opens the door wider to let you in, Pepper follows with no fight.
“She just really needs water and my house isn't exactly close.” You explain, not wanting to come off creepy or weird. This newfound cat of yours is already making you risk your life going into some guy's house just to make sure she's okay.
“I get it, still thanks for, um, offering to help.” He brings the ice pack up to his face, the time he had the door open already almost melted the bag but still it was better than nothing.
You say a small ‘no problem’ as he gets a bowl filled with water for Pepper. He also fills a cup of water for you, you take it only because you saw him pour it.
“Pep, c'mere girl.” His voice comes out loud and it makes you jump.
But for some reason she’s no longer near you. The sound of fabric ripping is heard and when you turn your head you see her clawing at his couch.
“Pepper! No!” Steve hasn't seen someone run after a cat so fast. She’s in your arms in a millisecond. “You can't scratch at other people's furniture.” You scold. This cat mom thing seems to be in your blood.
“I think you should keep her.” He says nodding like he can confirm now after seeing you lecture her that you two are a perfect match.
“I'm so sorry, she didn't damage it I promise.”
You bring her back to the kitchen and it makes your heart break in two at how quickly she tries to drink the water.
“If I lost my cat I would only hope someone kind and pretty would find her and give a nice home.”
“I went to five different houses and no one was able to tell me if they knew about her, maybe I should do more though.” His complement didn't go missed by you, your flushed cheeks are proof.
“Trust me when I say that no one will be helpful. Everyone stays in their house and I bet if you asked them if I lived here they would say no.”
“Are your parents home?” He yelled loud for Pepper and no one was quick to come out and ask about it.
“Nope, gone for the weekend. It’s why I'm able to stay at home looking like this.” He’s referring to his face. And honestly he should go to the hospital but this isn't your face that's all bruised and cut.
“Do you have any med kits? It'll have the supplies we need.” You ask, hopping off the bar stool chair.
“I should, it might be in my bathroom.” He starts walking towards that direction and you’re not sure if you should follow or stay where you are. He doesn't tell you to stop once you both walk up the stairs.
“Your house is really nice.” It’s missing all the family photos but the amount of chairs that are tucked into the dining table makes up for the lack thereof.
“It’s only nice because there's never anyone here to mess it up.”
When he opens his bedroom door you are met with a plaid wallpaper. Only a few posters filling in the walls and for a boy to be living alone it's pretty clean.
“Got it!” He yells from the bathroom even though you are close enough to hear him.
You walk into his bathroom and see a big red box open with alcohol wipes and bandages. He takes a seat on the toilet lid and you wash your hands.
The closer you get to his face you can see all the cuts. There's one on his lip, bridge of his nose, and on his temple– basically from his eyebrow. He has nice strong brows and long lashes, even with the gash on his nose you can see how handsome he is.
“This might sting, I'm sorry.” The smell from the alcohol pad immediately fills your senses.
His legs open further so you can come closer to his face. Your hand gently holds his chin so he can look up. Now he’s getting a chance to truly take a look at you himself.
Your cheeks are still pink, must be from the heat, he thinks. A piece of hair falls into your face from how you bend your neck to look down at him. It takes everything in Steve not to put it behind your ear, it’s stopping him from taking you all in.
You’re only wiping away the blood that's built up along the wounds, but once you lightly start to clean the cuts his eyes shut tightly. A hiss comes out of him and his hands tightly squeeze his knees.
With the pounding headache, and the intense sting he feels like his head is being crushed all over again. Who knew Byers would have this in him?
“So how did this happen?” The silence is killing you and his eyes feel like they burn through each layer of your skin.
“I already told you, my girlfriend-”
“I know, got a boyfriend but did this boyfriend get a punch back from you or?” The fact that he still calls her his girlfriend brings a shutter through you. You keep reminding yourself once you leave you won't see this cute boy ever again.
“Yeah, he did. It was just a stupid fight.” Steve doesn't want to tell you what he wrote on the movie theater sign, and even worse that not only did his girlfriend slap him but Jonathan threw harder punches.
“Are you gonna break up with her? I mean, I don't think girlfriends should have two boyfriends, right?” His cuts are all clean, now you’re taking out bandages to patch him up with.
“I mean, I might. I don't know. It’s complicated.”
Half his face is all bandaged now and it brings a slight frown to your face.
“Well you're all fixed up now.” You say with a sigh. The need to leave is getting stronger, Pepper has had enough time with her water and you finished your side of the deal.
“Thanks, I swear I would have given Pepper water alone but, I wanted to continue talking to you.”
His comment makes your frown turn into a smile. There's something about him that you think could heal you, similarly to the way the sun does on your walks.
“I should get going, I don't want to walk home in the dark.” Your 3pm walk went on for an hour which turned to 4pm and it took you an hour to look around for Peppers owners and now it's already 6pm. Summer isn't fully in swing yet, keeping the sun in the sky for just a few hours longer.
He gets up from his seat on the toilet lid as he follows you out of his room. Pepper is waiting at the bottom of the stairs, feeling the cold wood beneath her.
“I could drive you home, it’s not safe to walk out there alone.” He offers.
“I really couldn't ask you to do that, you've already helped us enough-”
“I insist really, what kind of guy lets a pretty girl walk home alone at night?” He really lays it on thick huh?
But still that big gleaming smile of yours is brought back instantly at his compliment. Both of you stand at the bottom of the staircase as he waits for your answer.
“I mean if it’s really not a problem, that would be really helpful.” The idea of carrying a fluffy cat in this heat all the way home seems like your version of hell. Despite how easy going she’s been you doubt she’d sit still the whole walk home.
“It’s no problem at all. Let me go grab my keys okay?” When walks into the kitchen area he can hear your little murmurs of ‘Pepper we don't have to walk!’
She’s already in your arms by the time he gets back to you. Steve doesn't know how he can just go on with his life without knowing more about you. How cursed can someone be to get beat up and then have a girl be taken away from him forever, all in one day.
“If you ever wanted to come back, not to fix me up or for water, you can.”
“Yeah? You don't mind people knocking on your door to get stuff from you?” It comes out playfully and Steve breaks into a huge grin.
“I mean if that person is you then I don't mind one bit.”
You nod at him and he opens the door, Pepper is too big in your hands for you to do anything else. The red car in the driveway makes a loud sound as he unlocks it. Again opening that door for you to get in. Pepper sits perfectly perched in your lap as Steve goes to the other side of the car, getting in himself.
The car ride to your place is filled with conversation. You tell him he has good music taste and Steve positively lights up. Practically glows at any of your compliments. Despite the walk to your house being long, the drive is quite short. He almost wishes you lived further away so he could talk to you more.
But when he does make it to your place, you grab onto Peppers paw and wave at him.
“Thank you-” You leave room for him to tell you his name.
“Steve.”
“Thank you Steve, you've been extremely sweet to us.” You lean your head against the cat and Steve thinks he could melt right there. His name sounded so nice coming from your lips.
“I meant what I said, come by anytime okay?” You nod your head feverishly in response.
“And if it’s any consolation, I think you deserve way more than someone who cheats. You’re too good for her.”
Steve doesn't really know how to respond. You think he’s good but really he deserved what he got. Still he is too late to say something back, the car door makes a loud shut as you shut it closed with your hip.
When you make it to your door Steve waves at you with a nice smile. You finally put the cat down to unlock the door and respond to him the same. A wave and smile that will forever be ingrained into Steve's brain. What he sees when he closes his eyes for the night, and of course the only thought he has on his drive home.

Background character Eddie, seasons 1-3, who's crush heightened awareness of Steve due to his proximity to the crowd Eddie loathes leads him to making several theories about the odd stuff happening in Hawkins.
Every theory is incorrect. Just completely off the mark.
After season one, he overhears people talking about Will Byers and knows that Steve got the shit beat out of him by Jonathan and figures pretty much what everyone else does. But then, he catches all three of them hanging out in secluded corners, whispering quetly and leaning, pulling apart swiftly the couple of times they notice him, and he gets other ideas.
He knows Barb went missing, and rumor has it she was last seen by Nancy at the Harrington house. Everyone seems to have brushed it off, the search ongoing, but Eddie gets it in his head that maybe they should look again. He pokes around the Harrington house a couple of times at night, but never finds anything besides a closed pool.
When season two happens and the whole thing with Hawkin's Lab is revealed, he feels both relieved and a little dejected. He really thought he cracked something there, and thinking Steve might have been a murderer was really doing wonders to squash his crush.
But now Eddie is convinced that the leak reached the Harrington house too, because nothing else explains the sudden change in personality. He's actually convinced that everyone in town is slowly being poisoned because so many people are acting strange these days, talking about feral rats and murdered journalists and the bad omen of Halloween.
Eddie makes monthly trips to the closest city for almost a year, demanding that Wayne and him only drink the bottled stuff. He tries to get his friends to do it too, but they all argue that if the water was poisoned, they'd all already be dead anyway.
Eddie has a very complicated home set up for music that includes some pretty powerful radio equipment, knowledge provided courtesy Scott Clark's AV club back in the day, to pick up radio channels from the bigger cities. One day he's surfing for some new channels when he picks up some strange frequencies. It's gibberish to him, but he's pretty sure it's some kind of language.
He makes the guys come over and try to figure it out, and they identify it as Russian pretty quickly. Their combined efforts only get them a couple of strange words before it abruptly cuts off. Less than an hour later, they're all getting the emergency broadcast about Starcourt burning down.
Eddie doesn't believe for a second that it is a coincidence, and with Steve and his merry gang being the only survivors, he knows he has to be involved somehow.
He's always wondered why Steve had to have a job with parents as reach and influential as the Harringtons. One late night while he's ruminating on it in his bed, it hits him.
The Russian Mob! Steve and his family must be involved! That's gotta be it!
#he's really only getting the steve story#which is only kind of related to the actual plot#and also#he is just wrong#because he is just...mildly stalking Steve#not because he has a crush tho!!!!!#he swears!!!!!!!!!#this has been sitting in drafts for a while#time to let it go#steddie#stranger things#eddie munson#steve harrington#dreamer speaks#fanfiction#plot bunny#I just think it would be funny if Eddie thought he had it all figured out#he's like...I see what they don't want me to see#I am the night#I am the keeper of secrets#and then The Horrors happen#and he's like#oh...

Yet another between seasons 3 and 4 fic
Eddie tries to unravel the mystery his newest sheep are caught up in that somehow involves Steve Harrington
Part one
- - -
Eddie wasn’t sure what he was expecting from the group of freshman he had taken into his group, but it certainly wasn’t them claiming to be buddies with the disgraced king Steve Harrington. It had started when Henderson had asked how long Hellfire meetings would go.
The little twerp rolled his eyes. “Yeah, well I need a timeframe. Steve said he’d give me a ride home after, but he’s not just gonna wait in the parking lot forever.”
“Yes he would, and you know it.” Wheeler retorted before Eddie could respond.
“Well yeah, but he already spends like no time with people his own age outside of work, it’s getting a little sad.” Henderson said, and Eddie was starting to wonder who this Steve guy was. ”I don’t want to add another reason for him to not have friends.”
“What are you talking about?” Sinclair joined in. “He’s like constantly hanging out with Robin.”
“Yeah! And he refuses to make a move on her! I think he’s lost all his game. And sitting in a parking lot for hours waiting for a group of nerdy freshman isn’t gonna help.” Henderson replied dramatically.
When Dustin had first brought him up, Eddie had figured Steve was like, his stepdad or something. But the more it went on the more lost he got.
“Okay, okay,” he interjected, stopping their weird conversation before it could get any weirder. “Whoever this Steve guy is, you can tell him to pick you up at eight.”
“Oh, you probably know him.” Dustin said, which Eddie highly doubted, since the only Steves he knew were his uncle’s poker buddy, and the former jock/bully/general asshole that was Steve Harrington.
“He graduated last year.” He continued, and that narrowed down the list of Steves in a unpleasant way.
“You’re not talking about Steve Harrington.” Gareth said, looking up from his lunch for the first time during the conversation.
“Yeah, we are.” Henderson replied, and Eddie shared a look with his friends.
“No way Harrington spends his free time driving you twerps around.” Eddie said, thinking if he was a character in one of his campaigns he’d be insight checking them all so hard right now.
“Unfortunately he does.” Wheeler said lazily as he pushed his meatloaf around his tray.
“Nobody’s forcing you to get in the car when he picks us up.” Dustin snapped.
“What, and ask Nancy for a ride? That’s worse.” Mike responded.
“All of you shut up,” Eddie called, once again derailing their strange conversation spiral. “Let me get this straight: King Steve has no friends besides some band geek that he can’t even manage to date, and spends his free time driving a bunch of freshman around?”
When none of them answered him he threw his head back, cackling. “Oh this is too good.”
He kissed his hands and threw them up, as if beckoning to the heavens. “Oh it’s all true! What goes around truly does come around.”
He was too busy reveling in the downfall of the personification of everything he hated to notice Henderson’s simmering rage across the table from him until he slammed his fists on the table. “Steve’s a good guy!” He shouted.
Eddie gave him a dangerous look. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.” Dustin asserted. The kid had guts, he had to give him that.
“Tell that to Jeff in freshman year, with his head in a toilet while Harrington egged his buddies on.” Eddie pushed.
Dustin looked between him and Jeff briefly, but his defensive aura didn’t waver. “He’s not like that anymore.”
Eddie scoffed and leaned away from the table. “Yeah, and I live on the moon with my fairy godmother and a million dollars.”
Dustin had apparently heard enough, because he picked up his bag and stormed away. Wheeler and Sinclair watched him go for a second, before sharing some kind of psychic communication. Eventually Sinclair got up and followed after him.
“Oook what’s his damage?” Eddie asked.
Wheeler sighed. “He and Steve got really close last year. Dustin was in some trouble and Steve helped him out. And then the thing with Billy, and the-“ he stops abruptly before continuing “the mall, and now I guess Dustin sees him as like, a big brother or something.”
“Ok that explains like, nothing.” Gareth says, “The thing with Billy? You mean when Hargrove smashed Harrington’s face in last year?”
Mike nodded. Unhelpfully not explaining further. Giving them a look like they were the crazy ones.
“And what does that have to do with Henderson?” Eddie prodded.
Mike huffed and crossed his arms. “He was there. We all were. Billy was looking for his sister and she was hanging out with us, and he said some shit about her not associating with ‘people like Lucas’, and then he attacked him, and Steve stopped him, but Billy fought dirty.”
Mike shook his head and looked away. “We thought Billy was gonna kill Steve before Max was able to stop him.”
Eddie shared a look with Gareth and Jeff, trying to judge if they were buying it. It was no secret that Billy was an asshole, and a violent one at that. Wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to believe he was a racist too.
“Ok, so Harrington got is face beat in to stop a racist asshole. That doesn’t cancel out all the shitty stuff he did before.” Eddie stated.
“Yeah, also, you mentioned the mall?” Jeff cut in.
“Yeah.” Mike said like it was obvious.
“The one that burned down?”
“Yeah,” Mike was picking at his fingernails now. “We were there for that too, with Steve.”
He looked like he was thinking hard for a second before continuing. “We got separated in the fire, so I don’t actually know exactly what happened, and they don’t like to talk about it, but when shit was going down Dustin, Steve, Robin, and Lucas’ little sister got in a pretty bad situation. The way Dustin tells it, Steve got them out, but he got pretty hurt in the process.”
“Jesus Christ, is there any disaster in Hawkins you guy’s weren’t there for?” Eddie said.
Mike gave a humorless laugh. “I wish.”
They all let Mike’s story sit for a second before they all started firing off more questions.
“What was Steve even doing hanging out with you guys when Billy showed up?” Jeff asked.
“So you’re trying to tell us he’s some kind of hero for saving Dustin from the mall fire?” Gareth added.
“Come on, Wheeler, he dated your sister, you can’t really think that highly of him.” Eddie finished.
Mike squinted at them for a moment before scoffing, “Honestly, none of it is any of your business,” he turned his gaze to Eddie, “and yeah, he did date my sister, and he was kind of douchebag like two years ago. And for the record, I don’t even really like him that much, but he did save mine and my friends’ lives more than once, so I think I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and not automatically assume he’s a complete asshole.”
At that he also grabbed his bag and his lunch tray. “I’m gonna talk to Dustin, try to get him to see your side of it, but maybe you guys should try to see ours.”
Eddie watched him follow his friends out of the cafeteria. Shaking his head. “Man I never pegged them as the type to hero worship some jock.”
Gareth shrugged. “Sinclair maybe, I overheard him talking about joining the basketball team last week, but Henderson? No way Harrington puts up with him.”
“Maybe if Henderson cools off by Friday we’ll see if Harrington really is there to pick him up.” Jeff mused.
When Friday came around, find out they did.
The session ended up going until about 8:30. When Eddie called it a night and Henderson looked at the clock, he started packing up in a hurry.
“Shit, Steve’s probably pissed we kept him waiting.” He practically shrieked.
“Dude, chill out, he’s probably just out there failing to chat up Robin. Again.” Lucas said, collecting his things at a more relaxed pace.
Dustin barely had time to hear him though, as he raced out of the room with a hasty goodbye to the rest of the group.
Lucas rolled his eyes. “Steve talks a lot of shit, but if it really pissed him off that much, he wouldn’t do it.”
Eddie paused his organizing of his dice to shake his head. “There you go again talking like you’re friends with Harrington.”
“Whatever, thanks for the great session, Eddie. See you on Monday.” Lucas said as he left.
Wheeler was still there, taking his sweet time packing up his things. “What, King Steve’s not taking you with him?“ Eddie asked.
“Oh, he is. I just like making him wait as long as possible. Plus, his and Dustin’s dumb secret handshake takes so long they’ll probably still be doing it by the time we get out there.” Mike replied, rolling his eyes.
“They do not have a secret handshake.” Gareth said, incredulous.
Mike shrugged. “Believe whatever you want man, all I know is that it makes us about 5 minutes late to whatever we’re doing.”
Eddie shared a look with the rest of his friends, simultaneously deciding that if this secret handshake existed, they had to see it for themselves. They left their stuff behind and made their way out to the parking lot to see what must have been the end of the handshake, which consisted of what looked like a brief light saber fight and Dustin spilling Harrington’s imaginary guts on the pavement.
“What the hell,” he whispered as he watched Harrington animatedly ask Dustin how it went.
As Henderson talked, he watched Harrington wave to Lucas across the parking lot and notice Eddie and his friends in the doorway. His smile faltered slightly, becoming a little awkward, as he waved to them too.
Eddie’s brain was too busy trying to process everything he was seeing to have the wherewithal to do anything back. Looking back on it, he wished he would have stuck his tongue out in his signature devil move, but alas, he’d have to save that for another day.
As he watched, Henderson got in a fight with a girl in the front seat of Harrington’s beemer. At first he thought it was a little odd that Harrington would bring a date to pick up a bunch of high schoolers from D&D, but then he recognized her. Robin Buckley, the band geek the freshmen had mentioned was Steve’s only friend.
Eventually, Harrington broke up the fight. “Henderson you can sit in the front when you’re the one who just got off a 5 hour shift on a Friday night.”
He watched Buckley stick her tongue out at him through the window as he joined Lucas in the back. Then Harrington checked his watch almost anxiously. He opened the driver’s door and said something to the kids in the back. When he reemerged from the car he did something Eddie never would have expected. He started walking towards them.
Not only was he walking towards them, but he was looking at them almost like he was about to-
“He guys, is uh, is Wheeler still in there?” He asked, looking between the four of them. He sounded almost nervous. Good Eddie thought, let him squirm.
“No actually, we had to sacrifice him for our satanic ritual.” Eddie replied, his brain finally catching up to the situation. His friends snickered behind him.
Harrington had the audacity to look worried, like he almost believed him, until he looked behind them and apparently saw what he was looking for.
“What the hell is taking so long, dipshit?” He asked.
“If I’m not allowed to say dipshit in front of you why are you allowed to do it?” Mike fired back without missing a beat.
Harrington just rolled his eyes, somehow resembling a tired parent. “Just get in the car, I was almost worried you fell into the-“
He stopped abruptly, not unlike the way Mike had the other day, Eddie noted in the back of his mind, and glanced at the Jeff, who also seemed to notice.
“…Toilet.” Harrington finished lamely, and was met by a classic Mike Wheeler judgemental grimace. He cleared his throat and added, with a hint of annoyance, “Just get in the car, Wheeler. Your sister will kill me if you’re not back by 9.”
The evening’s surprises kept coming when Wheeler, for maybe the first time in the month that Eddie had known him, dropped his pinched expression and sounded almost sincere when he mumbled “Sorry, didn’t mean to like, actually scare you.”
Steve just nodded in reply. As Mike made his way to the car, Harrington lingered for a moment looking like he was trying to convince himself to do something.
“Hey, uh,” he started eventually, “thanks for lookin’ out for them.”
And with that he gave another awkward wave and walked a little too briskly back to his car. Eddie had a brief thought that he should probably stop watching them, that he should head back inside and stop thinking about it, but found himself unable to look away as Harrington got into the car, yelled something to the back seat, and pulled out of the parking lot.
They were gone for a long moment before Gareth spoke up. “Ok so Harrington’s definitely been replaced by some sort of alien robot or something, right?”
“Yeah I’d say that’s the most likely explanation.” Eddie said, still staring at the spot the car had disappeared from.

Starcourt Aftermath
|| ao3 || steve masterlist || requests are open!! ||
summary: Steve doesn't think anyone will come pick him up after the Starcourt mall fire, but you're there to take care of him and take him home. (wc: 1111)
warnings: mentions of steve's bad parents + everything he went through in s3
Steve hadn’t really expected anyone to come pick him up. He figured he’d either have to walk home, or ask Joyce, Nancy, or Robin for a ride home, after all, his parents couldn’t even bother to pick up the phone after the ambulance had tried them four times to tell them Steve had been involved in a fire at the mall. It was too late for him to ask the paramedics to call you without him feeling guilty that he would be waking you and your family up at this hour. So when the paramedics asked if there was anyone else they could reach, he shook his head no and said he’d get a ride home with one of his friends. He could only hope someone found his damn car keys before he started asking around for a ride home. Maybe the walk wouldn’t be so bad, though Steve didn’t know if he could handle that cold walk home, alone after everything he and Robin had endured. The needles, the drugs, the beating, he felt like he was going to be sick.
“There you are!” He heard you exclaim from his side. Steve could only blink repeatedly, half expecting you to be a figment of his imagination, proof that the drugs never fully left his body yet. But no, you were there, standing in front of him before pulling him into a tight hug, one he easily reciprocated– he hadn’t realized just how badly he needed the hug, needed someone who made him feel safe and loved to hold him in their arms.
“It’s the middle of the night, what are you doing here?” He quietly asked, words mumbled as he pressed a kiss to the top of your head. He doesn’t think he’s ever been so happy to see you, to be in your arms, to feel your skin against his.
You pulled away from the hug just enough to look at him, your eyes trailing over his face taking note of every cut and bruise that was there. “My mom was watching the news and they said the mall caught on fire. She told me, so I came here to check on you cause I knew you were working today. Are you okay?”
Steve felt like he could melt on the spot from your words. It shouldn’t be completely mind-boggling that his girlfriend would care about him enough to drive to the mall and ensure he was okay from the fire, but he regularly found himself falling in love with you all over again anytime you did the smallest things for him. Anytime you so much as hugged him, kissed him, even held his hand, Steve felt like his heart would burst out of his chest.
“Yeah, honey,” he said softly, cupping your face with one hand as he moved to kiss your forehead. “Yeah, I’m okay,” he pauses, “okay-ish.”
“What happened to you?” You ask, gesturing to his black eye as you lean into his touch.
“I’ll tell you about it later,” he promised, “I’d rather not think about that right now.”
You nodded your head yes before glancing around your surroundings, taking note of everyone that was affected by the mall fire. “Are your parents in town?” You asked, noticing their absence in the crowd. Despite dating Steve for almost a year now, you could count on one hand the number of times you’ve seen his parents due to their frequent business trips.
He shook his head no, “business trip,” he muttered. Of course.
“Do you want to spend the night at my place then?” You ask, taking Steve’s free hand in yours as you begin to lead him to your car.
He shook his head no again, something he probably shouldn’t be doing so much as it was only adding to the growing headache that was beginning to form between his temples. “No, no, I wouldn’t want to impose, sweetheart,” he replied as he seated himself in the car.
“You wouldn’t be imposing,” you tell him, starting the car and pulling out of the mall parking lot, already on the route to your home, “I want to be with you right now, anyways.”
“Yeah?” He asks with a smile.
“Yeah,” you quietly reply. “I was worried I was gonna get here and you wouldn’t be okay… I kinda need to be with you right now,” you tell him, eyes never leaving the road.
Steve feels his heart warm at that as he places a hand on your thigh, “I’m okay, baby,” he softly tells you.
You nod noncommittally, continuing the drive to your house in silence, with the exception of the radio softly buzzing in the background.
A five-minute drive later, you’re helping Steve up the stairs of your house and into your bedroom, setting aside a pair of clothes for him to change into.
“You sure the paramedics cleaned your face up?” You ask as Steve begins to change into the sweatpants and hoodie you set out for him, the very same hoodie and sweatpants he had thought he somehow lost.
“Yeah, I know what the paramedics did to me, babe,” he says, voice slightly muffled by the hoodie as he puts it on.
You nod, already under your bed’s sheets, waiting for him to join you. “Just making sure.”
Steve smiles, moving to give you a quick, soft kiss as he tells you, “and I appreciate it, baby. Really. But you don’t need to worry so much, okay?”
You want to tell him how you have every right to worry, how you hadn’t heard from Steve since the day prior, and that when you heard about the mall fire you swore you felt your heart stop for the briefest of seconds, how when you saw him sitting alone with his face battered and bruised, you didn’t know whether to cry tears of joy or sadness. Joy for him being alive, or sadness for him looking as if he had barely escaped with his life.
Instead, you nod your head yes, telling him a soft “okay,” as he kisses your forehead, getting under the covers next to you, arm already draped over your waist as he pulls you closer to him. Almost as if he knew how badly you needed to be in his arms after the scare. Or maybe he needed to feel you in his arms just as badly as you did.
“Is it fine if I leave the lights on?” Steve softly asks.
You nod your head yes, “course it is, baby.”
He smiles at your response, whispering a small “thank you,” as he somehow pulls your body even closer to his.

omg yay requests are open! Could you do smth with the concept of Eddie with a reader that is very affectionate with everyone but him, and when he finally confronts her about it, confused, and honestly a bit hurt, she’s forced to reveal her crush on him?
I hope this is what you wanted and you enjoy it. Thank you for requesting ❤️
Why am I different?
Eddie was used to being treated differently. It happened all his life and he doesn't think it'll ever stop. He found a good group of friends who treated him like a human.
A new friend was introduced to the gang and Eddie couldn't get a good read on her. She didn't seem shy, very affectionate with everyone. Well everyone except Eddie.
Whenever she arrives somewhere, she greets everyone with a hug. Eddie only got a wave and a small smile. She sat close to others during movie nights, but whenever Eddie sat next to her she had so much space between them.
He was positive she didn't like him or that his rough exterior deserved judgment in her eyes. He was fine if she didn't like him, but he wasn't fine with being ignored and treated differently when he did nothing wrong.
He didn't know that it was the complete opposite. She saw him for the first time and swore she had never seen a man that beautiful. His skin looked soft and his face was flawless. He made her nervous and she wasn't sure how to react around him. So she tended to freeze around him, hoping if she didn't move a muscle he wouldn't notice the crush she had on him.
She would love to give him a hug, but then she's worried she wouldn't ever want to let go. To feel his chest against hers and arms wrapped around her, she'd probably stop breathing. She couldn't give him a kiss on the cheek like the others, she'd lose control and want to kiss his pink lips. She couldn't sit next to him without craving to crawl in his lap and feel his body heat for hours. She tried her best to talk to him but even then she could only get out a few words.
~~~
"Sorry, I'm late," Eddie apologized as he welcomed himself into Steve's place.
"No worries, it hasn't started yet," Steve said as commercials played on the television. Eddie scanned the room and sighed to himself when the only open spot was next to Y/N. He gave her a small smile and took the open spot. Her body tensing up didn't go unnoticed.
Y/N chewed on her lip nervously as Eddie's scent filled the room. Her mind was racing as she tried to distract her body from the fact that Eddie was only inches away from her.
She made sure she was as far to the one side of the couch as she could. Afraid if she touched him electricity would spark.
Eddie felt a small sting as he felt her body scoot away but he kept his eyes on the screen.
~~~
Y/N greeted the older gang with a hug and kisses on the cheek, working through the group. Eddie stood off by himself, watching as she embraced everyone but him.
"Hi Eddie," she said with a small smile, a nod in his direction.
"Hi," he said flatly. His tone caused her eyes to fall away instantly, but he didn't feel bad.
"Let's get this show on the road!" Robin called as she threw herself in Steve's passenger seat. Today, Robin, Steve, Nancy, Eddie, and Y/N planned a trip to the beach, and Y/N felt terrified. Not only would she have to be in a swimsuit in front of Eddie but he'd be shirtless in front of her. She made sure to pack sunglasses so if she found herself staring, it wouldn't be noticeable.
Eddie and Nancy slid in the car, leaving Y/N. She gulped as she noticed the middle seat was the only free spot.
"You don't mind sitting in the middle right?" Nancy asked, a smirk on her face. She knew all about the crush on Eddie and she enjoyed making Y/N's life hell.
"Oh... uh," her eyes looked over at Eddie, "yeah that's fine."
Eddie scoffed as he got out of the car, allowing her to move past him. Once she was squeezed in the middle, she let out a deep breath, glaring at Nancy. Eddie noticed the glare, his feelings a little hurt as he looked out the window.
The entire car ride Y/N was squeezed into Nancy's side, practically on her lap. Eddie wished it didn't bother him, but he thought Y/N was attractive, and he liked the personality she showed with her friends. He wished she would be like that with him, he wished she would give him a chance.
Once they arrived, Eddie fled from the car, stepping aside to smoke a much-needed cigarette.
"I think it bothers him that you ignore him," Nancy said as she watched him stand to the side.
"I don't know how to be normal around him!" Y/N whined, "he makes me nervous."
"Let's just try, small steps."
~
Y/N was soaking in the sun, keeping her eyes shut so she didn't constantly look at Eddie. Luckily, he was busy with Steve, so she had time to settle her thoughts.
She groaned when the sun went behind a cloud, ruining her tan. She opened her eyes, startled to see Eddie standing over her. She gulped as his frizzy hair shines in the sun, and how his sunglasses fit his nose perfectly. He stood shirtless, the sun beginning to soak into his pasty skin.
"We need to talk," he said, not letting her answer as he took a seat right next to her in the sand. His elbows dug into the hot sand as he held his body up, then his head turned to her.
Y/N was frozen, staring ahead as the waves brushed the shore.
"Look at me," he hissed, "and I won't tell you again."
She bit her lip as she ignored how hot her body was getting from his words. She turned her head, locking eyes with him through their sunglasses.
"Do you have a problem with me?"
Y/N shook her head immediately, "no" her voice was soft and shy.
"Then what's your deal?"
"Nothing," Y/N said, "I promise."
"Then why do you treat me differently? I get that we might be very two different people but you are judging me without getting to know me. And that bothers me."
Y/N had to give him credit for calling her out. He dealt with it for a while. She took a deep breath, fighting off the wave of nausea.
"I'm not judging you, and I never judged you. I have a crush on you," she admitted embarrassed, "you make me very nervous and I was scared. I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings." She watched his face for a reaction, holding her breath.
Then he began to smile. "You have a crush on me?"
She rolled her eyes at his cheeky smile and teasing tone. "Don't be an ass."
Eddie apologized, scooting closer. He pushed his sunglasses up into his hair, looking at her. She matched him, taking off her glasses as she nervously looked into his eyes.
"I think you're pretty and I'd love to get to know you better," his words made her heart race. "How about a date?"
She couldn't believe it. Eddie Munson asked her on a date.
"I'd love that."
