Steve had believed in Erika, believed that there was hope, believed that they could make the Sunodos undo what they had done. That there was some way to fix his mistakes. But that all evaporated into uncertainty the moment the source of all his trouble spoke out. Dwarfed in both size and power by his creators, there was nothing he could do. They were all doomed. But Steve had to try. He couldn’t do anything but try. Magnetic fields strong enough to move planets rippled across his bones. He did his best to stand tall as he faced what could only be his end. “YOUR INFLUENCE HAS BEEN LEFT UNCHECKED FOR TOO LONG. WE WILL CORRECT IT AS YOU RECEIVE YOUR SENTENCE.”

Is it weird if I answer a writing prompt with a link to excerpts from a larger WIP?

In one of my main WIPs, To Not Falling Off Cliffs, a huge part of the lore is that reapers are assigned specific causes of death and only exist for as long as there are souls for their assigned death to reap. Two of the three protagonists are reapers, and the third is a human who has died an unusual death (hypothermia caused by a mis-enchanted mug). The reaper protagonists include Steve, a Reaper of the Slow Artificial Death, and Tiffany, a Reaper of Naval Accidents.

To Not Falling Off Cliffs is about reapers warring against their own creators and the consequences of altering fate. Excerpts from To Not Falling Off Cliffs can be found here and a detailed WIP intro can be found here!

Each type of death has a unique type of Reaper. The Reapers of Drowning collects the souls of the drowned. The Reapers of Old Age collects those that have come to their natural end. Write a story about a Reaper for an unusual death finally having a soul to collect.
