Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 1: The Blood Warfare EP#01 (367) - The Blood Warfare: Soul Reapers Ryuunosuke Yuki and Shino Madarame, arrive and visit Karakura Town, following the mass disappearances of Hollows from the Human World. They are ambushed by Hollows, but rescued by Ichigo Kurosaki, Orihime Inoue, Yasutora "Chad" Sado, and Uryu Ishida. Two days later, Ichigo meets Asguiaro Ebern, a member of the Wandenreich. Ebern attempts to use a Quincy medallion and seal Ichigo's Bankai, but he destroys it and makes him retreat. At the same time, a group of individuals representing the enemy faction called the Wandenreich, the Quincy Empire, infiltrate head captain Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto's office in the Soul Society, and deliver a fatally wounded lieutenant Chojiro Sasakibe as an example for the impending fate of the Soul Reapers. Meanwhile, 11th squad members Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa, investigate the disappearances of thousands of civilians from the Rukon District. At the Wandenreich's base Silbern, Ebern reports to Yhwach, the Quincy King.

Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga EP#01 (26) - Small Beginnings: After his secret is exposed, Rin takes part in a special mission alongside Shura and Yukio to retrieve the "Left Eye of the Impure King", a demon relic that was stolen from the True Cross Academy's vault. They fail to retrieve it but discover that the culprit is Saburota Todo, one of the exorcists in charge of the vault, that was corrupted upon being possessed by a demon. After hearing that there was an attempt to steal the Left Eye's sister relic, the "Right Eye of the Impure King" in Kyoto, the Order sends a team there to investigate, including Shura, Yukio and the Esquires, who are in conflict after learning the truth about Rin.

Note: Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga effectively begins after the 17th episode of the first season, right at the point where it deviates from the manga (ignoring anime original scenes from episodes 16 and 17). Thus, the events from episodes 18-25 are ignored.

Lazarus EP#07 - Almost Blue: After hearing news that the last ice floe in the Arctic has melted due to global warming, the team remembers that Skinner predicted this event exactly three years ago. Naga's memory bank analyzation is completed, and it outputs four oceanic coordinates in or near Manila Bay, the Maldives, the Sakishima Islands, and Tuvalu. Hersch notes that Skinner purchased land from these coordinates shortly before they were submerged by rising sea levels a decade ago. The team decides to split up, with Doug going to Manila, Axel to the Maldives, Leland to Sakishima, and Chris to Tuvalu. They discover that all four locations have something in common: most of the local residents suffered from a genetic form of analgesia that prevented them from feeling any pain, and that Skinner bought their islands to give them the money needed to relocate before they fully submerged. Eleina traces the money back to the defunct Hague Institute, where she discovers that Hersch used to work under Skinner. Elsewhere, Hersch meets with Abel, who warns her that the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps is searching for Axel. They also discuss Skinner, who Hersch believes wants to be found, which is why he left a trail of clues. Returning back to land in Fiji, Chris encounters a woman she recognizes who calls her out by her real name, Alexandra.

Naruto (Land of Waves Arc) EP#18 - The Weapons Known as Shinobi: Inari is shown running from door to door throughout the Land of Waves, trying to rally the villagers into defending Tazuna and the bridge. Though he agrees to kill Haku, Naruto instead witnesses Haku sacrificing himself to protect Zabuza from Kakashi's Lightning Blade. Unfazed by his apprentice's sacrifice, Zabuza continues attacking Kakashi while Tazuna accompanies Sakura to Sasuke's dead body. Kakashi manages to disable Zabuza's arms before their battle is interrupted by Gato and his men, the criminal intending to kill Zabuza and everyone else present. Meanwhile, disappointed in his attempts to rally the villagers support for the bridge, Inari sets out alone but finds a crowd waiting for him outside.

the insane thing my friend and i are discussing rn is that there's a very specific overlap for millennial anime fans with fans who grew up in some part in a developing country which only had anime as cartoons cuz anime was easier to license (which is why shit like fushigi yuugi and maison ikkoku are like formative shojos for me) and american kids who grew up with parents rich enough to afford premium anime channels

Nostalgic Lookback: More Japanimation

Once dubbed anime started to find a market for it on Toonami, and on other stations with stuff like Pokemon and Digimon, it opened the floodgates so that soon, new anime started popping up everywhere!

All of the anime shows I remember either coming across or just hearing about during those real early 2000s weren't shows I got super into, yet almost all of them have lingered with me, with some of them like Rayearth, Slayers, Utena, The Wanderers, G Gundam, Excel Saga, Fruits Basket, and especially Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion going on to become favorites of mine today.

And I gotta address Monster Rancher, 'cause that was easily the funniest for me. Not only was it such a blatant attempt to cash in on the success of Pokemon (way more so than Digimon) and presented in a way that barely tried to hide it, but THIS was its opening theme!

I'm sorry, but I always lost it at "THE EVIL MOO." You simply cannot make that cow noise of a name sound cool or intimidating.

8 years have passed since Samurai Jack got back to the past...

so what's Genndy Tartakovsky been up to during that 8th year? Not to mention The Cartoon Network of course...

Jellystone!'s Season 4 opener "Cartoon Network vs. Jellystone! Crisis on Infinite Mirths", yet another CN crossover episode, was promoted at SDCC 2024 and premiered on HBO Max; the special will premiere on linear television at 10:30 AM Sunday, May 25th, 2025... only on Cartoon Network!

New Line Cinema has Sony Pictures Animation given back the rights for the 2D raunchy adult animated comedy Fixed as another cost-cutting move on Warner Bros. Discovery's part. It was likely to air on [as] with co-production by Cartoon Network Studios, but now it will stream on Netflix in August 2025, and pictures of the film are revealed.

Dexter's Laboratory: The Complete Series was released on DVD in stores featuring Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip, which was originally set for its own DVD release but decades later became part of the set.

Genndy Tartakovsky revealed some artwork and a part of the script for Sym-Bionic Titan Season 2's opener (technically Season 3 as CN promoted 2 seasons that make Season 1 up) on his Instagram account.

I got 2 Cartoon Network t-shirts that were not totally official CN merch but branded by Port & Company Ring Spun Fan Favorites.

AWorkersignited got #RIPCartoonNetwork trending although there wasn't any official news otherwise of CN in danger of shutting down. Cartoon Network also trended over "reheated leftovers" for Generation Alpha with more Regular Show content to come.

Primal Screen began to wrap production on their final works up and reincarnated as Space Monster Studio.

Toonami Rewind lasted from May 31st, 2024 to December 27, 2024 due to licensing fees for rerunning the 3 anime that they aired (Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and Naruto). ACME Night hasn't been active since December 29, 2024, and the Cartoonito branding may end in the US by May 26, 2025.

Samurai Jack aired only 8 episodes of Season 1 on Checkered Past before it was pulled off; it's unknown if it'll return. What a Cartoon! including poor quality butchered prints sourced from The Cartoon Cartoons Show prints also started to occasionally air on the block as well as compilation episodes of Cartoon Planet (1997 version).

Invincible Fight Girl ended up airing on Toonami while Iyanu went to CN; the latter is the most successful Cartoon Network original (though entirely third-party and not even co-produced by the network at all) this year. Duck Dodgers (the series) as well as brief airings of Steven Universe and The Powerpuff Girls reran on CN on weekends. Totally Spies! Season 7 also aired on CN but with new actresses from Distribimage NYC instead of Jennifer Hale and friends due to issues regarding SAG-AFTRA union rates. The Venture Bros. reran from the pilot onward on [as] from August 11, 2024 to May 4, 2025 in celebration of that show's 20th anniversary.

Warner Bros. Discovery may spin some companies off but I'm not sure if Discovery is going to decide to split from WB yet or not.

Genndy Tartakovsky planned to attend a SCAD event but couldn't due to a storm.

Spumco/Ren & Stimpy veteran Jim Smith died as reported on May 2nd, 2025 (6 years after Chris Reccardi - also a Spumco/R&S and Samurai Jack veteran - died). The manliest artist in the world contributed storyboards and prop design to some episodes of Samurai Jack but mostly did character design for Season 2.

Lorenzo Estrada made some fake Uncle Grandpa "Powerhouse-era" Cartoon Network bumpers.

Some Cartoon Cartoons revival shorts are cancelled by WBDiscovery, and, after 4 years since new Gumball content, The Amazing World of Gumball (now titled The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball) will stream exclusively on Hulu instead of airing on TV.

Craig McCracken, Mike Collins, Ricardo Delgado and Andy Bialk have their Twitter/X accounts deactivated probably due to political discourse.

I can't recall much else but I'll modify this post when I've more mental energy to focus.
