SInce coming back to Eorzea, Kizuna's found more and more that he enjoys being where it's tall and bright and open. People tend to look up much less than down as long as there isn't something to look at. And it gives him a chance to people watch- see how they interact, what their faces are doing while they aren't looking at him, what different emotions look like. (Whether he actually practices mimicking it is another matter. He's usually making a face concentrating too hard and doing the bad habit of chewing on his lips to make much progress.)

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Continuing a bit from this post where Steve is the most background character of all time: Robin edition.

Robin is by no means ‘internet famous’ but she likes to do crafts and has a TikTok account. When she’s not defending Steve’s cryptid-Chicago-man ass in comments, she’s posting videos of her projects.

Steve makes an occasional guest appearance in her videos but it takes forever for anyone to notice because she never shows his face.

She has a running series on her account (five parts so far) called ‘Crafts and Tea.’

The posts are cut together clips of Robin working on her current bead project whole Steve complains about whatever is bothering him off-screen. The last one has her making a beaded purse and Steve complaining about his parents.

The only reason people realize that her off-screen roommate is the cryptid chicago man everybody is obsessed with is because she posted a video titled, ‘painting the bottom of my bestie’s shoes until he notices.’

People connected it to a video of someone singing on the subway. Steve is in the background with his legs stretched out and the soles of his shoes visibly a painted sunset. He is also, notably, the only person enjoying the singing.

I am not a particularly techno-optimistic person or a futurist or singularity believer or anything like that, but I think it kinda sucks that a lot of people in reacting to the nebulous threat of “the tech bros” have let themselves be negatively polarized against pretty straightforwardly correct ideas like “bodily autonomy and assistive technology is cool” (that is, fundamentally, the spirit that motivates transhumanism) and “death is scary and tragic.” One of the oldest extant works of human literature is largely about how awful mortality is and how hard it is to come to terms with death; it is in fact an incredibly common sentiment throughout history, and just because some people you know who really suck are also scared of dying doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

I don't really know how to explain this to you but the way the brain works. is that anything your brain creates. FOR EXAMPLE an ENTIRE INDIVIDUAL. will usually draw from things YOU PERSONALLY KNOW. and that are PERSONALLY SIGNIFICANT TO YOU IN SOME WAY. "why doesn't this so-called system have a 30 year old bricklayer called bob in their system" that person is a queer teenager heavily invested in the alt fashion community. bricklayer bob is not in any way relevant to this person's life. why would their brain form an individual like that when it is not significant at all to this persons experiences or memories. shut up shut up shut up stop making the lives of traumatised strangers harder I'll EAT YOU

still i think the one of the more fun differences drawn between illario and lucanis that was lost would be illario's ability to endear himself to others but serious lack of empathy, vs. lucanis' (self perceived) inability to be charming but how much he cares. it's interesting that the game has gone with the "lucanis' ability vs illario's lack thereof" because i think illario being the dellamorte 'best in show dog' vs. lucanis' attack dog would have made me so unwell.

lucanis is... awkward. he's not unlikable, because he is usually very polite, but he doesn't speak much and only seems to care about the other dellamortes. he once sent viago de riva a knife with no note (who knows what he could have meant by this). he does what caterina asks of him, and by his own admission, cannot say no to her. he is a dramatic and prolific killer, and that makes how untouchable he is even worse.

and the crows like illario, sure, AND he's a good assassin! he's even a good crow! he's so good that he can make lucanis smile, and so he is the charming, sociable one. he's the one that stays in treviso and can be relied upon to care, illario's even the one people prefer over caterina and lucanis!

but illario is decoration. he's the prize poodle, and even if poodles were bred to be working dogs, nobody will ever pick him to protect the house over the german shepherd that regularly mauls intruders. anyways the analogy is getting away from me. the point i'm trying to make is that i want illario to have a different kind of jealousy/hatred that's not just over 'being bad at killing' but also an arrogant loathing for everyone around him that is getting harder to hide, because they've forgotten he can bite and is just itching to rip someone's jugular out. illario is very good at hiding his family resemblance to caterina, while lucanis suffers under his grandmother's, and his own, reputation.

Hopper is sitting in his truck.

He’s parked on the side of the road downtown. He should be finishing the paperwork for the traffic stop he made earlier, but he’s not. Instead, he’s watching all four Hagan boys walking down the street to the movie theater in his sideview mirror.

They’re chattering, laughing and shoving each other. David and Maria’s youngest boy, Tommy, is kicking rocks down the sidewalk. Two of the other boys, Tyler and Travis, are shoving a Melvards bag worth of sweets into their pockets.

It’s wholesome, Hopper thinks considering all those boys give him a goddamn headache.

He only really notices them because draped over the back of the oldest boy, Theo, is Steve Harrington.

He sees the exact moment that Steve recognizes his truck because he starts squirming to be let down. As soon as he is, he runs ahead and right up to Hopper’s open window, “Hi, Mr. Hopper!”

“Steve.”

“Look at my cast!”

Steve waves his arm at him, showing off the cast now decorated with messy child signatures and bad drawings. Steve looks so excited about it, “Mama said that lots of people hafta sign my cast ‘cause it’s ugly with just your name. Look how cool it is!”

Before Hopper can even respond, Steve gives him tonal whiplash by asking in the same breath, “Can you arrest Mama?”

“Why?”

“She thinks I need new wallpaper,” Steve tells him with big serious eyes. “It’s ugly, Mr Hopper.”

“Tough break,” Hopper replies. “Doesn’t warrant an arrest though.”

“But - but a fake one,” Steve insists. “The police arrest people wrong all the time. That’s why Dad’s got a job an’ why I got cool toys an’ a swimmin’ pool. He keeps people outta jail.”

“You arrest Mama and she won’t go to jail for real ‘cause she’ll ‘peal it,” Steve continues. “Then - then Mama goes to court and there’s a judge, and they picks drawers-“

“Jurors.”

“Uh-huh,” Steve nods dismissively, rambling on, “The drawers have an envelope and it says, ‘no way, Jose.’ Then Mama comes home but it’s a long time - law stuff takes a long time - so she - she’ll change her mind about the ugly wallpaper.”

Hopper doesn’t smile, though he is amused when he tells the kid, “Bad wallpaper isn’t a crime, kiddo. Sorry.”

“It’s a crime against me,” Steve pouts. “I hate it.”

That pout might just last forever. Hell, it might just convince Hopper to actually do it (god, does he want to do it), but then a sharp whistle sounds from the entrance of The Hawk.

Theodore Hagan was standing with one of the doors propped open, calling, “Stevie, last one in gets all the burnt popcorn pieces.”

Steve gasps.

He runs off with a faint “Bye, Mr. Hopper” behind him.

Hopper watches Steve dart into the theater, making eye contact with Theo. He gives Hopper some dorky ass salute before disappearing inside too.

Hopper sighs.

Yeah. He’s got to finish this report.
