Whenever I see atypical anatomy in my art, instead of thinking 'I've made a mistake - it's wrong - I need to fix this and redo loads of work!'

I've instead trained myself to chastise myself with: 'Some people probably have laterally uneven noses, MAT. How dare you think that they're wrong and need to be fixed! You have minor skeletal deformities yourself, so whats with this internalised ableism, MAT?"

Either way, I hate myself afterwards, but at least I hate my art less.

It's late, later than it should be and Donnie doesn't even realize it. His brothers are fast asleep and the only light in the lair is coming from the lab. Where you are sitting on a stool, half asleep, with your hand supporting your head.

Donnie was currently working some blueprints for the Shellraiser. After various injuries to the vehicle, he finally decided some defense upgrades were needed. Donnie needs to find out a way to still keep the speed of the Shellraiser while increasing the overall armor of it. This would be easy, if most of the material he uses wasn't from the dumpster.

They don't usually have high grade titanium you know?

Which leads to now, with Donnie glaring at a piece of paper, twirling a mechanical pencil in his hand. He let's out a deep exhale and crumbles up the paper, throwing it behind his shoulder. This action was loud enough to snap you put of your sleep dazed state, and make you look up at him.

He watches you sit up and stretch your arms behind your back. Your back pops a few times, making you let out a small noise of contentment.

"Your still working on the blueprints?" You say, clearing your throat of the thickness built up from dozing off.

Donnies face cringes a little hearing the tiredness in your voice, "Yea... BUT I think I'm getting somewhere! I just need a few more hours."

Your shoulders fall a bit, face crestfallen. Honesty, you really just want to go to bed with your turtle boyfriend. Between school and the missions, you haven't been able to spend the night or hangout much.

And the particular mission today wore everyone out, including you. There was quite a lot of Krang in the area and the boys were trying to figure out why. This eventually led to you getting roped into it, as the turtles got overwhelmed and needed help. You all got out of it unharmed, destroying the Krangs plain once again. In the end, all there was left was scraps.

"Hey Don? Hand me a piece of paper would you?"

Donnie raises an eyebrow but complies, sliding the paper to where you are sitting. He watches as you pick up a pencil that was laying next to you, and start scribbling something down. Wanting to see, he strains his neck to look at what your doing.

Within minutes, a sketch comes to life, it looks like the Shellraiser but with a couple added parts to it and little diagrams with arrows surrounding it.

"What-" Donnie begins, but you cut him off with a hushed 'hold on!'

Another minute passes and you drop the pencil, pick up the paper and look at with your arms stretch in front of you. With a nod, you slide the paper back to him with a grin. He picks it up and scans it. Then his face drops in surprise, showing the gab in his teeth.

"The krang have a bunch of otherworldly technology right?" You begin, " We've had to blow up some of the machines they've built to destroy them. So why don't we add some of that material to the Shellraiser?"

Donnie looks up at you, then down at the paper, then back to you again. "Thats...Why didn't I think of that earlier! This is perfect. Of course we'll have to be careful not to alert the Krang when taking the parts but we could use it for so many things!"

Well, he might not go to bed for another couple hours now that you introduced to so many possibilities, but at least he's back to his inspired self.

☆ At first he's way to fascinated with the ideas you've presented to really think about the fact that your smart as hell.

☆ When he calms down a bit though, he just like, 'wait how'd you do that' and starts asking questions. I mean, he didn't think you were dumb or anything, just not THIS smart.

☆Donnies definitely gets jealous sometimes. But only because he's insecure that he's not useful outside of his scientific work. If he's not good at that, what does he have?

☆ 'I could've figured that out!' Goes to 'Why didn't I figure that out...' pretty fast.

☆If you ask to work in the lab with him, he'll definitely try to mansplain stuff you already know. Which just ends up making him look a little stupid. Cause like, you already drew up the blueprint or built the invention by the time he's done.

☆After he gets over himself, he starts to enjoy you working in the lab with him. You slowly start opening up new ideas for him and lessening the work load. Which makes it so you guys can spend more time together.

☆Whenever he gets discouraged, Donnie asks for your help. Soon, he finds that having two perspectives helps when thinking about problems. Which should be common sense, but he's not use to working with someone and has a ' I can do it by myself' mentality.

☆This grows your relationship quite a lot. Donnie admires your smartness and creativity, which makes him fall for you even more.

☆Sometimes you'll catch Donnie staring at you with a starstruck look on his face when you get excited about science and inventing. When its late, you two will take turns making coffee to be sure your both awake to finish a big project. Most nights, you both will end up on the couch in his lab, asleep and cuddling eachother close.

Finally, the promised missing brother!

My external drive decided that it couldn't survive the plane trip back from Texas, so I had to redo Raph, whoops. (April will be next!)

Raph is basically a teenage Kaiju. He seems a bit smaller when he's with the others because he tends to hunch over and make himself smaller, but for the sake of reference I have him standing up.

The Archelon are a type of prehistoric Sea Turtle. They were gigantic, and because we don't fully know what they looked like, I had a bit of free reign on his design. I studied the skeletal structures, and artistic diagrams of what they were thought to look like. Then I combined it a bit with the Leatherback, and gave him a giant Godzilla tail, because I think I will go ahead and do a short story on this and tail havoc is a plot point. (side note: I'm not posting my refs because they are skeletons and other artist representations and I don't feel right about posting art -even scientific- that is not my own.)

Why did I pick a dinosaur turtle? Because in a world full of mermaids why can't I have a dinosaur turtle. Plus I wanted them to have a BIG brother. 😂❤️

So, Casey is 6’1” (185cm), April and Donnie are 5’6” (167cm), Raph is 5’3” (160cm), and Leo and Mikey are 5’ even (152cm). Here’s a diagram to help you visualize that:

Now, I will say this, the turtles actually grow overtime. Similar to how in Rise, Leo is well over 6 foot in Casey Junior’s timeline and how the Bayverse turtles are also over 6 foot, my turtles grow slowly over time, eventually becoming around Casey’s height as adults.

wrt joong being emotional on social media (ie public), my personal take isn’t that someone shouldn’t have emotions, but rather that a public figure should be aware that anything the share or tweet in a moment of pique will last forever—not just in an archival sense but in the fandom’s collective memory as well. i come from a background where i am legally held responsible for anything i put on social media that could be ‘damaging’ to my company even if it’s on a personal account. not saying that’s fair or right, but that’s the reality for myself and many others. beefing with someone also signed to your company and intimating and dissatisfaction with your coworkers is something that would personally get me brought before a manager at minimum. again, this is just how it would work for me, but i’m guessing some other people in this fan space may be in similar circumstances and this also see these tweets and insta posts as unprofessional. there’s another possible discussion to be had here about the way society deems anything undesirable in a sort of mental illness-unprofessional venn diagram, but this ask is already long enough.

Anon (if this is the same anon), your response wasn't too long! It was perfect! And so was @waitmyturtles' response because it's getting at what I'm trying to highlight - his behavior could be deemed unprofessional, but not mentally unwell. I understand that the tweets and retweets are crude, but my resistance is aligning that with his mental health.

Just like you, I have a job that monitors my social media activities (if they can be found *wink, nod, Tumblr*), and if I wrote about my department mates the way Joong and Dunk are interacting, my department chair would have me in the vice president's office after the second tweet. I get it. But even if I did shit-talk my department mate on Twitter because she threw a party with my professional enemy (business instructors), I would be displeased if my chair connected that with me being mentally unstable.

There is definitely a "discussion to be had here about the way society deems anything undesirable in a sort of mental illness-unprofessional venn diagram" and after reading yours and turtle's responses, I feel we are all in the same boat, but coming at it in different ways. However, I want to emphasize that regardless of Joong's actual mental health, I do not attribute his social media behavior as a reason to claim he is unwell. Unprofessional? I see it. Unwell? That falls into that Venn diagram of unrealistic societal norms you mentioned, and I think both of us can agree that is unfair for us to place that label on him.

I appreciate your initial ask to me because it let me know that Twitter was popping off during all of this, and gave me more details to add to my "We Got Beef: Joong & Est Edition" pile, but I'm even more thankful you replied to the follow-up question.

“So, in this experiment, we’re trying to determine if it’s possible to find the perfect soulmate without even knowing them. We interviewed all our volunteers and found a perfect couple. This experiment is the hardest we have ever made. Not only do the two candidates come from two very different social classes, but this is a homosexual couple.”

The audience gasps loudly.

“I must specify that one of the volunteers declared to be gay and the other was open to a homosexual relationship.” The scientists show a PowerPoint presentation pointing at some statistics, “As you can see they don’t have the same interests or hobbies, they live very different lives, but looking at the diagram you can see that they have the same opinions about relationship, friendship, and commitment. You can see that our first subject, Steve, gives very high importance to family and relationship and commitment, and our second subject, Eddie, is just a little bit under on the commitment but they have the same level of importance given to family and relationship. So they are here, after a few dates, to tell us how it worked out for them. Please welcome them.”

The two boys who get into the conference room couldn’t have been more different: one wears a shirt and a pullover over a pair of dark blue jeans, a pair of squared turtle glasses, and a very soft smile, the other is dressed all in black, with a leather jacket, a pair of high boots and some black jeans ripped at the knee revealing a huge skull tattooed on the right knee and black nail polish.

“So, Eddie and Steve, right?” The scientist asks, looking at his file.

“I’m Eddie. He’s Steve.”

“Oh, yeah. Sorry. So. How did our experiment go?” the man inquires with curiosity, pushing his glasses with one finger.

They both start talking at the same time, before laughing and begin a little dance of “You go first.” “No, you go first.”

In the end, it’s Steve who grabs the microphone, “Hi everyone. I’m Steve Harrington. I signed up for this experiment because I was tired of dating the wrong person and I thought that maybe someone who didn’t actually know me could help me understand what I was looking for.” he turns toward Eddie with a soft smile, “If it wasn’t for this experiment I don’t think I would have ever go out on a date with someone like Eddie. Nothing wrong with him, but as anyone can see we’re not exactly similar.” he chuckles before giving the microphone to Eddie.

“Yeah. That’s right. I would have never looked at someone like Steve to have a stable relationship. I mean, he doesn’t know Metallica and doesn’t play DnD which is like the first thing I ask everyone I date. But yeah. I signed up for this experiment to prove to my buddies that there’s no way you could find a soulmate thanks to some calculation and look at me! I’ll have to buy a lot of beers this year.” He smirks.

“So we must assume the experiment went well.”

Eddie and Steve share a look, “What do you say? Should we tell them?” Eddie asks, playing with a lock of hair.

“Tell us what?”

Steve beams when he grabs the microphone, “We’re engaged. We’re still working on the specifics, I live in Chicago he lives in Los Angeles, but yeah. We are going to get married.” 

“That was unexpected, especially from you, Eddie. Weren’t you against marriage?”

“Have you seen him? Since the first time we kissed after our first formal date, I knew I couldn’t let him go.”

“Remind us of your first date. We sent you each other's description and asked you to meet at the local mall, isn’t that right?”

Steve brushes some hair away from his face, “When I saw the description I was really in doubt. I didn’t think Eddie could have been the right person for me, but I decided to give him a chance. We met at Starbucks. Drink a coffee or two and by the time we leave the coffee shop I was already in love.”

“I was lovestruck as well. Surprised that someone so hot was still single and looking for flaws I didn’t find, so we just chatted and as soon as we left the coffee shop we kissed. I think we both tasted like burned coffee but it was the best kiss I have ever had. And so here we are. Proving that the program can help you find your soulmate.”

The audience applauds, and then Steve and Eddie leave the conference room, hand in hand, until they are far enough from the conference room they look at each other, “What do you think?”

“They totally eat up all that shit. Great work Stevie.” Eddie replies, giving him a high-five.

“You weren’t half bad either, Munson.” Steve replies with a wink, “Now let's make sure they transfer the money to our bank accounts.”

“Can believe your parents agreed to our little plan.”

“It’s their program. They want people to believe they can actually find their soulmate thanks to this program so… it’s a win-win, right?”

“Still convinced about the wedding?”

“I always wanted a big ceremony. I can give you a couple of months of my life before asking for a divorce.” Steve winks, “Now let’s go. This place stinks of stupidity.”
