When sorrow and difficulties strike hard, hope becomes the lone star in the dark sky. This is the story of Amira, a 23-year-old girl who found herself bearing the burden of her family after her father's death three years ago due to the coronavirus.

After my father's passing, I found myself taking care of my family, consisting of my mother, sister Noor, and brother Abdulrahman. My mother, suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, faces health problems that further complicate their situation. But courage and determination drive Amira forward.
I worked as a teaching assistant at the university while pursuing a master's degree in data science, and also worked as a programmer in a company. My life was going smoothly until war came and destroyed everything.

My university, workplace, and home were completely destroyed, forcing them to flee south in search of a safe haven. Now, I and my family live in tents for displaced people in Deir al-Balah, where they suffer from water shortages and the spread of diseases, posing an additional challenge, especially for my immunocompromised mother.
This is a brief about our daily suffering.

Please help me, my mother, my sister and my brother to go out to treat my mother because she suffers from widespread diseases because her immunity is weak and help us to complete our educational journey, me and my brother

"I did not think I'd ever use it like this," the boy muttered next to batman.
It was comically, with the police and ambulance lighting up the entire area.
Danny, being himself, had gotten curious and accidentally busted a human trafficking ring, which ended up with batman and his kids (?) doing the fighting and the police being called.
"Son, solving crime doesn't mean you didn't trespass and break into someone's property, I will have to take you back to the stationâ"
"I have diplomatic immunity."
Officer Gordon stood still for a moment, progressing.
"You can't really, errâ put me to prison." The boy took his phone out, stopped at a picture, and showed it to the officer and batman.
The vigilante confirmed his identity with a jerky nod, and Gordon is pinching his brows.
"Sonâ no offence your... majesty, why are you in Gotham of all places?"
The boy now identified as Daniel Phantom, prince of the other and currently the reigning monarch of another realm.
In gotham.
"Okay, so," Danny coughs, embarrassed. "I'm on university search and gotham had this really cool space science programm. I really wanted to see it."
â
(Once they checked his papers and got his statement, did they let him leave to his hotel + some of his squad going along for protection measure.
Gordon heaved a sigh, "We can be glad it wasn't the joker. That would have made headlines." and slumb in his seat.
Batman grunts, a sound the officer knows too well.
"You're gonna look out for the kid?"
Another grunt.
"Good, because Gotham help us all if that kid gets hurt.")

Until now, COVID vaccines have been available to pregnant women as part of the twice-yearly booster programme, but this offer is being withdrawn.
The UKâs vaccine body, the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), has recommended that from spring 2025, pregnant women will no longer be eligible for free COVID vaccines. This is a concern for several reasons.
First, there is the direct vaccine benefit of reducing the chance of COVID infection and the consequences of infection in pregnancy. Pregnant women are at higher risk of severe COVID infection than women who are not pregnant, which can be significantly reduced by vaccination.
Severe COVID infection in pregnancy also carries risks for the unborn baby, including miscarriage and stillbirth. Although the risk with the currently circulating virus variants is lower, the risk remains to both mother and baby from COVID. The good news is that vaccination not only protects the mother should she be infected, but also reduces the risk of both very preterm birth and stillbirth for her baby.
Second, there is the indirect benefit of vaccination in pregnancy in protecting newborns in those vital early months. Infants do not have fully developed immune systems, and a COVID infection is their first time meeting the virus. As such, they are very vulnerable to COVID infections, as they are to other respiratory infections. (Thankfully, there are safe and effective vaccines for flu, whooping cough and respiratory syncytial virus RSV.)
COVID vaccines for children under the age of four (from the age of six months), while approved for use in the UK, are not, nor have been, made available â in contrast to countries such as the US.
A recent study, co-authored by one of us (Christina Pagel), looked at all hospitalisations in England of children with a COVID diagnosis or positive test between August 2020 and 2023. Admissions where COVID did not contribute to the reason for being in hospital (such as swallowing a toy or breaking a limb) were excluded.
Overall, infants accounted for 43% of all admissions in children under 18 (19,700 out of 45,900), rising to 64% of admissions in the most recent era as older children saw some benefit of âacquired immunityâ (protection from having had a previous infection).
Of these admitted infants, only 10% had any underlying conditions that would normally be considered risk factors for severe COVID infection. While most infants were in hospital for only a short time â about two days â a significant minority required intensive care. For instance, between August 2022-23, about 5% needed intensive care and eight babies died.
A new study, which has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal, further categorised risks to different age groups for COVID hospital admissions in England. It showed that the risk for A&E attendance, hospital admission and severe hospital admission (requiring oxygen ventilation and hospitalisation for more than two days) was highest in babies under six months old â higher even than for people over 90 years old.
While much lower than for the youngest babies, the risk for babies aged six months to one year was also higher than most other age groups â comparable with adults in their 70s or 80s.
The good news is that babies can be protected from COVID in the first six months of life, if the mother has been recently vaccinated. This is because if the mother is vaccinated, she can pass on protective antibodies to the developing baby during pregnancy. These antibodies will wane over time, but if the mother is then able to breastfeed she can pass on antibodies that are found in breast milk.
These antibodies can make a massive difference. Data from the US showed that the overwhelming majority of infants hospitalised with COVID (95%) and all those who died from COVID were from unvaccinated mothers. It is for these reasons that vaccination against COVID during pregnancy has been recommended around the world, including in Ireland, the US and, until now, the UK.
JCVIâs workings not clear Itâs not clear how JCVI assessed the cost-effectiveness that has led to the change in recommendation to withdraw the COVID vaccine in pregnancy.
The cost-effectiveness model JCVI has been using for COVID vaccine decisions has only just been published, and is still in preprint form. JCVIâs criteria focus on preventing deaths, and the preprint only considered deaths in people 15 years and older, while the hospitalisation data used grouped children aged nought to four years. This age grouping masks the much higher vulnerability of very young babies that other papers have shown.
A further concern about the JCVI analysis is that it seems to prioritise preventing deaths above all other considerations. For its decision on pregnancy eligibility, the committee used unpublished data from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre, which shows that there were no deaths in pregnancy in the last 18 months. Although this is excellent news, this data does not appear to include consideration of miscarriage, stillbirth and health risks to the baby.
While, of course, death matters a lot, and pregnant mothers and babies very rarely die from COVID, hospitalisation and severe hospitalisation are nonetheless also important outcomes to avoid.
COVID remains at significant levels throughout the year. We would urge the JCVI to look at the wider data sets published on infant health as well as mortality and either revise its criteria on vaccination in pregnancy, or provide a much more detailed and transparent explanation for why it has been discontinued.

Hehe pjofur art go brrrrrrr. From left to right we got:
Flare Okarda: (he/him)
The one and only. A fugitive from the pjofur society after he went insane, Flare is the 4th iteration of a project gone horribly wrong meant to give the society its âgreatest giftâ. Now on the loose infected with a highly destructive fatal logic error, the universe isnât safe from Flareâs chaos.
Jakob Nuygara: (he/him)
Born a second class citizen, Jakob suffered a lot of hardship in his early childhood, including the death of his parents who werenât able to achieve reincarnation status. Using such as a drive, he scratched and clawed his way up until he earned his reincarnation and first class citizenship. Becoming a teacher at the lead teaching institution, Jakob saw the future of the society was in the hands of the youth. This inspired him to create the âgreatest gift to societyâ a project that would end up causing him nothing but misery.
Jokull Nuygara: (he/him)
The 3rd iteration of the greatest gift project, Jokull was renowned by the society as a prodigy, a revolutionist who would deliver the society to a new era of technology. A brilliant mind, he was known for being diligent and dedicated to his work, albeit impossible to speak to outside of a work setting. Many regarded him as perfect, that was, until he one day went insane shortly after reincarnating.
Prince Stali Sitotya: (he/him)
The son of the tyrant Queen Suicuna and the sporddreki prince she married, Stali was her attempt at creating an heir. Only she was quickly met with a horrifying discovery, the child was completely and entirely immune to her mind control. Suicuna would attempt several times to remake Stali, driving him to insanity in the process. After multiple failures, she elected to show Stali âmercyâ and allowed him to live and gave him to a servant living in the palace, confident that his mental state would prevent him from ever being a threat.
Fjola Eidur: (she/her)
The daughter of a pjofur named Helgi, head of the botanical department, Fjola was raised alongside Jokull and eventually the two were set up in an arranged marriage and made to be each othersâ assigned partners. While sheâs a skilled technician, programmer and talented in data analysis, she was often overlooked or only known for her association to Jokull.

David Smith at The Guardian:
A pitiless crackdown on on illegal immigration. A hardline approach to law and order. A purge of âgender ideologyâ and âwokenessâ from the nationâs schools. Erosions of academic freedom, judicial independence and the free press. An alliance with Christian nationalism. An assault on democratic institutions. The âelectoral autocracyâ that is Viktor OrbĂĄnâs Hungary has been long revered by Donald Trump and his âMake America Great Againâ (Maga) movement. Now admiration is turning into emulation. In the early weeks of Trumpâs second term as US president, analysts say, there are alarming signs that the OrbĂĄnisation of America has begun. With the tech billionaire Elon Musk at his side, Trump has moved with astonishing velocity to fire critics, punish media, reward allies, gut the federal government, exploit presidential immunity and test the limits of his authority. Many of their actions have been unconstitutional and illegal. With Congress impotent, only the federal courts have slowed them down. âThey are copying the path taken by other would-be dictators like Viktor OrbĂĄn,â said Chris Murphy, a Democratic senator for Connecticut. âYou have a move towards state-controlled media. You have a judiciary and law enforcement that seems poised to prioritise the prosecution of political opponents. You have the executive seizure of spending power so the leader and only the leader gets to dictate who gets money.â OrbĂĄn, who came to power in 2010, was once described as âTrump before Trumpâ by the US presidentâs former adviser Steve Bannon. His long-term dismantling of institutions and control of media in Hungary serves as a cautionary tale about how seemingly incremental changes can pave the way for authoritarianism. OrbĂĄn has described his country as âa petri dish for illiberalismâ. His party used its two-thirds majority to rewrite the constitution, capture institutions and change electoral law. He reconfigured the judiciary and public universities to ensure long-term party loyalty.
The prime minister created a system of rewards and punishments, giving control of money and media to allies. An estimated 85% of media outlets are controlled by the Hungarian government, allowing OrbĂĄn to shape public opinion and marginalise dissent. OrbĂĄn has been also masterful at weaponising âfamily valuesâ and anti-immigration rhetoric to mobilise his base. OrbĂĄnâs fans in the US include Vice-President JD Vance, the media personality Tucker Carlson and Kevin Roberts, the head of the Heritage Foundation thinktank, who once said: âModern Hungary is not just a model for conservative statecraft but the model.â The Heritage Foundation produced Project 2025, a far-right blueprint for Trumpâs second term. OrbĂĄn has addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference and two months ago travelled to the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida for talks with both Trump and Musk. He has claimed that âwe have entered the policy writing system of President Donald Trumpâs teamâ and âhave deep involvement thereâ. But even OrbĂĄn might be taken aback â and somewhat envious â of the alacrity that Trump has shown since returning to power, attacking the foundations of democracy not with a chisel but a sledgehammer.
[...] Borrowing from OrbĂĄnâs playbook, Trump has mobilised the culture wars, issuing a series of executive orders and policy changes that target diversity, equity and inclusion programmes and education curricula. This week he signed an executive order aimed at banning transgender athletes from competing in womenâs sports and directed the attorney general, Pam Bondi, to lead a taskforce on eradicating what he called anti-Christian bias within the federal government. He is also seeking to marginalise the mainstream media and supplant it with a rightwing ecosystem that includes armies of influencers and podcasters. A ânew mediaâ seat has been added to the White House press briefing room while Silicon Valley billionaires were prominent at his inauguration. Muskâs X is a powerful mouthpiece, Mark Zuckerbergâs Facebook has abandoned factchecking and the Chinese-owned TikTok could become part-owned by the US. Trump has sued news organisations over stories or even interview edits; some have settled the cases. The Pentagon said it would ârotateâ four major news outlets from their workspace and replace them with more Trump-friendly media. Jim Acosta, a former White House correspondent who often sparred with Trump, quit CNN while Lara Trump, the presidentâs daughter-in-law, was hired to host a new weekend show on Rupert Murdochâs Fox News. But the most dramatic change has been the way in which Trump has brought disruption to the federal government on an unprecedented scale, firing at least 17 inspectors general, dismantling longstanding programmes, sparking widespread public outcry and challenging the very role of Congress to create the nationâs laws and pay its bills. Government workers are being pushed to resign, entire agencies are being shuttered and federal funding to states and non-profits was temporarily frozen. The most sensitive treasury department information of countless Americans was opened to Muskâs âdepartment of government efficiencyâ (Doge) team in a breach of privacy and protocol, raising concerns about potential misuse of federal funds. Muskâs allies orchestrated a physical takeover of the United States Agency for International Development (USAid), locking out employees and vowing to shut it down, with the secretary of state, Marco Rubio, stepping in as acting administrator. âWe spent the weekend feeding USAID into the wood chipper,â Musk posted on X. Muskâs team has also heavily influenced the office of personnel management (OPM), offering federal workers a âbuyoutâ and installing loyalists into key positions. It is also pushing for a 50% budget cut and implementing âzero-based budgetingâ at the General Services Administration (GSA), which controls federal properties and massive contracts.
[...] One guardrail is holding for now. Courts have temporarily blocked Trumpâs efforts to end birthright citizenship, cull the government workforce and freeze federal funding. Even so, commentators warn that the blatant disregard for congressional authority, erosion of civil service protections and concentration of power in the executive branch pose a grave threat.
The US is rapidly careening towards OrbĂĄnism.

A carefully constructed plan inspired by Operation Bubble which protected the late Queen from Covid-19 was thrown into action.
He would have weekly treatment in London and factor in vital periods of rest time at Sandringham, Highgrove and Windsor.
But his health plan was thrown into turmoil when Prince Harry announced he would jet from Los Angeles to see his father.
While the King delayed his helicopter flight from Buckingham Palace to Sandringham, his wayward son was given just 30 minutes of his company at Clarence House.
Plans were in place to avoid the King contacting a secondary infection and Harry flying 5,000 miles on a jet was not ideal.
Aides prevented Harry, 39, joining his father at Sandringham fearing âweâd never get rid of himâ and he needed to reduce his social contact while undergoing cancer treatment.
[...]
But the King was withdrawn from all public duty for 103 days although he continued reading government red boxes.
It can now be revealed the decision to postpone his public facing role was made as a âprecautionary measureâ because of the Kingâs diminished immune response to other diseases.
The Royal Household copied Covid-style protocols â or tiers imposed by the Government during the pandemic â to minimise secondary infection such as seasonal cold or flu.
A source said: âWe had to minimise potential risk from other people, not because he couldnât do the job.â
But as winter turned into spring and weather became warmer it meant they could relax the Covid-style tiers.
This was demonstrated when the King emerged from the Easter Sunday service and was greeted by 60 well-wishers at St Georgeâs Chapel, Windsor Castle.
Just days earlier, the monarch and his team had received news that the treatment had gone better than anyone could have expected.
One insider said: âHe was raring to go after the positive results and didnât want to hang around any longerâ.
It meant the King told aides that a trip to Australia, seen as the most important tour a monarch will ever take, must go ahead in the autumn, as first revealed by The Sun.
In May, his public comeback began at London's University College Hospital MacMillan Cancer Centre where he told patients he was having treatment later that day and confessed in an off-script moment he had lost his sense of taste.
[...]
Around 27,000 messages and get well soon cards had been sent to the King and Princess of Wales, and he told then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak some of the âwonderful messages and cardsâ have âreduced me to tearsâ.
Despite the Kingâs positivity and drive to return to work and tour Australia, his aides and doctors remain âprotectiveâ about how many hours a day he can carry out public-facing duties.
While famous for being a âworkaholicâ with Harry and William once saying they would find him in his office working during the night, the King has been made to restrict public face-to-face interaction to only five hours a day.
This is expected to be the same when he goes to Australia with Camilla in October where the tour is expected to have engagements on around seven days.
Sources explain rest and recuperation are built into the King's usually hectic schedule so he is not exhausted.
[...]
In truth, if it was not the cancer then the prostate procedure would have stopped him riding at Trooping, it is said.
Amid the recovery his personal doctor Michael Dixon, previously slated and accused of backing controversial homeopathy, has been credited with aiding his recovery with a programme of complementary treatment.
The King will now spend summer months at Birkhall on the Balmoral estate and be surrounded by family, including the Princess of Wales who is continuing her own cancer journey.
He will keep a positive frame of mind tending his garden, taking long walks, painting and fishing.
And he will be ready and raring to go for Australia in October where his recovery could be even further down the line.
The trip Down Under which includes speaking at Common wealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa is expected to last less than two weeks including travel and take in Sydney and Canberra.
[...]
The King has been open about his prostate problem and cancer but it is unlikely he will now specifically name which cancer he has, so that to âreach out and embrace as many people as he can impacted by cancer. The more specific you are the fewer people you are able to engage and support.â
Of making the news public, an insider said: âI canât tell you what a difference that has made for him, it came with his support.
âWhen presented with facts of how many suffered enlarged prostate, and that there was a public health campaign and therefore some good can come of his personal setback, he totally got that and has been genuinely bowled over by the scale of response to that and cancer itself.â
On social channels, Buckingham Palace has collaborated with charities MacMillan, Maggieâs and Cancer Research UK.
And when the King chose his comeback event, he attended University Hospitals cancer ward where he bonded with patients revealing he had lost his sense of taste and had treatment later that day.
But a source added: âNever say never. There are no current plans to reveal the cancer.
âBut if he felt that the time was rightâ.â.â.ââ

Importance of Routine Health Checkups for Children in India

In a country as diverse and dynamic as India, ensuring the well-being of our youngest citizens is a top priority. While vaccinations and treatment for illness often get the spotlight, routine health checkups play an equally vital role in maintaining a childâs long-term health. These checkups go beyond just addressing illnessâtheyâre a cornerstone of preventive healthcare and critical to the overall goal of improving Child Health in India.
Regular pediatric visits can catch problems early, monitor growth and development, and build a healthy foundation for a childâs future. Hereâs why routine health checkups should be a part of every parentâs healthcare plan.
1. Early Detection of Health Issues
Children grow quickly, and so do the health challenges that can arise during those growth phases. Many conditionsâranging from anemia, vision or hearing problems, to developmental delaysâmay not show obvious symptoms in the early stages. Routine checkups enable doctors to detect these issues early, ensuring timely intervention and treatment.
For example, many children in India suffer from undernutrition or hidden hunger (deficiency of key micronutrients), which can impact both cognitive and physical development. Regular screening for iron, calcium, and vitamin levels can help address these concerns before they affect learning and growth.
2. Tracking Growth and Development
One of the primary goals of pediatric checkups is to monitor a childâs growth and developmental milestones. This includes measuring height, weight, head circumference, and Body Mass Index (BMI), and comparing them with age-appropriate norms.
In India, where regional and socio-economic disparities affect nutrition and health access, tracking growth becomes essential. Delays in motor skills, speech, or cognitive development can be addressed early with physical therapy, speech support, or nutritional guidanceâif caught on time.
Routine assessments are also essential to identify learning disabilities or behavioral disorders that often go unnoticed in early childhood but become more apparent as academic demands grow.
3. Reinforcing Immunization and Health Records
India has a robust immunization schedule under its Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). Routine checkups serve as checkpoints to ensure that your child is up-to-date with their vaccinations.
Pediatricians also help parents maintain an updated child health record, which is vital for school admissions, travel, and medical history tracking. These visits offer a chance to administer any missed doses and discuss newer optional vaccines like HPV, flu shots, or typhoid conjugate vaccines that may not be part of the national schedule but are recommended.
4. Establishing Good Health Habits Early
Doctor visits are not just about checking boxesâthey're opportunities to educate both parents and children. Topics like dental hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, screen time, sleep habits, and emotional well-being can be discussed during these appointments.
In India, where rising cases of childhood obesity and early-onset diabetes are becoming alarming, lifestyle counseling during routine visits can help inculcate healthy habits early in life.
5. Promoting Preventive Healthcare Culture
A major barrier to Child Health in India is the reactive approach many families takeâseeking medical help only after illness strikes. Routine checkups promote a preventive healthcare mindset, helping shift the focus from treatment to long-term well-being.
This is especially important in rural or underserved areas, where regular access to healthcare may be limited. Government and community health programs can play a key role in encouraging parents to make preventive care a priority.
When Should Children Have Routine Checkups?
According to pediatric guidelines, children should have health checkups at the following stages:
At birth and during infancy: Monthly till 6 months, then every 2â3 months till 1 year
Toddlers (1â3 years): Every 6 months
Preschool and school-age children (3â12 years): Annually
Adolescents: Once every 1â2 years unless specific concerns arise
These visits should include not just physical exams but also vision, hearing, dental screenings, and discussions about emotional and mental well-being.
Conclusion
Routine health checkups are a vital tool for safeguarding child health in India. They help identify issues early, ensure healthy development, and promote a culture of prevention rather than cure. Whether you live in a metro city or a rural village, prioritizing regular doctor visits for your child is one of the best investments you can make in their future.
Remember, a healthy child is a happy childâand the foundation for a healthier nation.

Nairobi national park in Kenya is the only large wildlife conservation area to fall within a capital city. It is hemmed in on three sides by human development, and unfenced only on its southern boundary â this gap providing a crucial wildlife passageway, linking the parkâs animals to other populations of wildlife and wider gene pools.
The gap, however, is also home to a small Maasai community, where farmers face an agonising choice between protecting livestock and making space for the predators that prey on their cattle.
Despite the dangers, the pastoralists are choosing to leave tracts of their land open, allowing the flow of wild animals to avoid what scientists call an âecological extinctionâ via a shrinking gene pool.
âOur forefathers found the wild animals here,â says 55-year-old Isaac ole Kishoyian, a resident of Empakasi, a small settlement overlooking Nairobi national park. âThere was enough prey before people built permanent settlements around the park.â
Now, wildebeests and impalas no longer migrate from the south, he says, and lions find his cows to be easy targets. âBut we still want our children to enjoy the same wild heritage as we did.â
Before the turn of the last century, rangelands south of Nairobi, including the present-day Amboseli national park, were all interconnected, providing enough room for wild animals to roam. However, the growth of human settlements, infrastructure, commercial activity and land fragmentation have blocked this movement, largely confining wild animals to the 117 sq km (45 sq mile) Nairobi national park.
Conservationists say each lost corridor around the park further restricts the trickle of fresh genes, resulting in isolated herds breeding with âcousinsâ rather than distant strangers. A smaller gene pool results in fewer wild herbivores, making hungry lions hunt more livestock.
âShrinking genetic variety does more than change pedigrees â it chips away at survival traits forged over millennia,â says Dr Joseph Ogutu from Hohenheim University in Stuttgart, Germany, who has led wildlife researchers in publishing reports about the collapse of animal migrations in Africa.
âInbreeding can shorten lifespans, curb fertility and weaken immune systems, leaving animals less able to navigate drought, disease or the urban noise,â he says.
A single adult lion, says Ogutu, requires as much as three tonnes of meat a year â equivalent to 14 wildebeests but the park holds only a few hundred large ungulates other than buffalo and giraffe.
One of his research papers says wildebeests migrating between Nairobi national park and the adjacent Athi-Kaputiei plains âdecreased from 30,000 animals in 1978 to less than 1,000 todayâ. As wild prey diminishes, livestock in nearby homesteads become easy pickings for predators, with the lionsâ hunting âon the hungriest nights, risking confrontations with peopleâ.
But the residents are willing to tolerate this uneasy coexistence by leaving the remaining corridors open and giving up economic activities that are not in line with wildlife conservation, such as crop farming or keeping large herds of livestock, if both government and wildlife conservation organisations ramp up compensation processes for their losses while compensating them financially for protecting biodiversity.
With 65-75% of wild animals in Kenya living outside conservation areas, the government relies on private landowners to host and protect wildlife. It is reviewing wildlife laws to entrench a more community-led approach to conservation.
In April 2025, 256 landowners, including those adjacent to Nairobi national park, Amboseli and Masai Mara, more than 100 miles away, received $175,000 (ÂŁ129,000), the first of a biannual payment earned from a pilot programme that pays landowners to keep more than 14,000 hectares (35,000 acres) open and intact. Each landowner will be paid $5 an acre each year, a modest amount that locals hope will increase as more join the programme and it attracts more finance.
According to Ogutu, without stakeholders restoring prey populations outside the park and reconnecting roaming routes, predators will remain both âvictims and villains in a drama of our own makingâ.

Mineral Mixture vs. Multivitamin Supplements: Whatâs Best for Livestock?
Feed alone frequently does not meet the complex nutrient balance required for livestock health. Today's farmers must choose between general multivitamin pills and specific mineral mixes. Knowing which choice best suits the needs of a particular herd might mean the difference between mediocre and outstanding animal performance.
The Significance of Supplementation in Contemporary Livestock Production
Supplementing is now required rather than optional. Natural feed is deficient in several essential elements because of deteriorating soil quality and rising production demands. According to the National Animal Health Monitoring System, more than 55% of cattle farms saw performance increases after using appropriate supplementation techniques.
Supplements bridge the gap between basic nutrition and optimal health, ensuring:
Stronger immune systems
Improved growth rates and fertility
Choosing the correct type of supplement â mineral mixtures or multivitamins â depends on multiple factors, including environment, production goals, and baseline forage quality.
What Is a Mineral Mixture?
A mineral mixture provides essential macro-minerals and micro-minerals that animals require in specific ratios. These minerals support nerve function, skeletal growth, and enzyme activation.
Core components of a quality mineral mixture include:
Calcium, phosphorus, magnesium
Trace elements like zinc, selenium, cobalt
Many farmers are unaware that forage mineral content varies widely. This unpredictability makes it crucial to buy Mineral Mixture products that are specifically formulated based on local soil profiles and animal needs.
Research from the University of Florida shows that mineral deficiencies can reduce growth rates by as much as 15%, even when caloric intake is sufficient.
What Is a Multivitamin Supplement?
Multivitamin supplements, which combine vitamins and frequently certain minerals, provide a wider range of nutrients. They aim to improve general vigour, immunological responses, and metabolic processes.
Key vitamins typically included:
Vitamin A for vision and reproduction
Vitamin D for calcium metabolism
Vitamin E for antioxidant protection
Multivitamin supplements, such as weaning, transport, or illness recovery, are often used in high-stress periods to help livestock quickly regain full health potential.
Mineral Mixture: Specific Benefits for Livestock
Mineral mixtures excel when addressing specific deficiencies. Targeted supplementation leads to measurable improvements, such as:
Enhanced bone development and skeletal strength
Better reproductive efficiency and shorter calving intervals
Research released by the American Society of Animal Science found that, on average, beef heifers given balanced mineral mixes reached puberty 21 days earlier than their classmates who did not get supplements.
Mineral programmes are extremely important when mineral demands rise dramatically, such as during late pregnancy and peak breastfeeding.
Multivitamin Supplements: Broader Nutritional Insurance
Multivitamins have a distinct but no less significant function. They offer nutritional insurance covering many minor deficiencies without requiring specialised testing.
Animals receiving multivitamin support often show:
Shinier coats and healthier hooves
Faster recovery from disease or injury
Multivitamins are versatile and user-friendly, making them popular for smaller operations or mixed herds where precision mineral balancing may not be feasible.
"The difference between thriving livestock and merely surviving ones often lies hidden in the micronutrients farmers cannot see but animals deeply need."
Comparing Absorption and Bioavailability
Bioavailability determines how effectively animals utilize the nutrients they consume. Both mineral mixtures and multivitamins vary based on ingredient quality:
Chelated minerals in mixtures provide up to 60% better absorption than inorganic salts.
Vitamins in oil-based emulsions absorb more efficiently than dry powders.
Selecting supplements made with high bioavailability substances increases return on investment and guarantees noticeable health advantages.
External Factors That Influence Supplement Choice
Environmental and management conditions should guide supplementation strategies. Key considerations include:
Soil selenium levels, which can vary by region, can impact livestock immunity
Seasonal forage changes affecting vitamin A and D availability
Farmers looking to tailor their supplementation plans can benefit from tools like soil nutrient analysis services offered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Strategic Use Cases for Mineral Mixtures
Mineral mixtures shine when:
Raising replacement heifers that require strong skeletal development
Managing herds in known mineral-deficient regions
For example, areas with naturally low phosphorus levels see significant fertility improvements when targeted mineral supplementation is applied, as proven in studies by Kansas State University.
Strategic Use Cases for Multivitamin Supplements
Multivitamin supplements are beneficial when:
Managing high-stress periods such as transportation and vaccination
Supporting recovery after illnesses that deplete reserves
In a Purdue University trial, calves supplemented with multivitamins during weaning showed 10% higher weight gain than control groups.
Cost Considerations: Which Option Is More Economical?
Cost efficiency depends heavily on herd needs:
Mineral mixtures are often more cost-effective for specific production goals like growth or reproduction.
Multivitamins offer value in mixed herds where multiple species and ages require a general boost.
Veterinary consultation and forage testing are smart investments that prevent overspending on unnecessary supplements.
FAQs
Can I use both mineral mixtures and multivitamin supplements together?
Yes, but careful balancing is crucial. Overlapping nutrients, especially fat-soluble vitamins and minerals like selenium, can cause toxicity if not managed properly.
How do I know which supplement my livestock needs?
Conduct forage analysis and consult a livestock nutritionist. Observable signs like poor conception rates or rough coats can also guide initial decisions.
Are multivitamin injections better than oral supplements?
Injections deliver fast results in emergencies but are not practical for daily use. When used consistently, oral supplements provide sustainable, long-term benefits.
How long before I see results from supplementation?
Mineral supplementation effects on reproduction or growth often take one to two months. Multivitamin effects, like improved coat quality, can appear within two to three weeks.
Is there a risk of overdosing minerals or vitamins?
Yes. Certain minerals like copper and selenium, have narrow safety margins. Always follow dosing instructions carefully and adjust based on animal size and condition.
The Future of Livestock Health: Precision Supplementation
Precision supplementation is becoming the norm in livestock health management, where customised regimens based on nutritional, environmental, and genetic characteristics maximise output.
Future advancements will likely include:
DNA-guided nutrition plans tailored to specific breeds
Real-time monitoring of mineral and vitamin status via wearable sensors
Early adopters of these technologies report increased profit margins, lower veterinarian expenses, and healthier herds.
Today's farmers who are adept at intelligent, targeted supplementing set up their herds for long-term success in a global agriculture market that is becoming more and more competitive.

Tracking Vaccinations Made Easy: Digital Tools for Modern Parents
In the whirlwind of parenting, itâs easy to miss a date or forget a doctorâs appointment â but when it comes to your childâs vaccinations, staying on schedule is essential. Thankfully, modern parents now have powerful allies at their fingertips: digital tools designed to help track and manage immunizations with ease. At My Sure Shot, we believe that technology can play a key role in improving awareness of vaccination and making it easier for parents to stay informed and organized.
Why Tracking Matters
Vaccinations follow a strict timeline, especially in the first few years of a childâs life. Missing a dose or delaying one can reduce its effectiveness or leave a child vulnerable to serious diseases. By using digital tools, parents can ensure they never miss an important date and stay aligned with national immunization schedules.
This not only improves the childâs health outcomes but also contributes to the larger goal of spreading awareness of vaccination and maintaining herd immunity in the community.
Best Digital Tools for Vaccine Tracking
Co-WIN and National Health Portals In India, the Co-WIN platform, initially launched for COVID-19 vaccination, has evolved to include broader immunization features. Parents can now view and download their childâs vaccination history, get reminders, and schedule future shots. The Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) is also integrating digital records through government apps to simplify access.
Immunize India App This free app sends personalized vaccination reminders to parents based on their childâs birth date. It includes Indiaâs recommended immunization schedule and is available in multiple regional languages, helping boost awareness of vaccination among diverse populations.
WHOâs Digital Tools The World Health Organization offers digital immunization tracking and educational tools that are accessible globally. These tools aim to bridge the information gap and empower parents with trustworthy, up-to-date data.
Baby Care & Health Tracker Apps Apps like BabyCenter, MyMedela, and Healofy go beyond tracking sleep and feeding â many also offer vaccination reminders and growth milestone monitoring. These all-in-one platforms make it easy for busy parents to manage everything in one place.
Benefits of Going Digital
Reminders & Notifications: Automated alerts prevent missed vaccinations.
Access Anywhere: Cloud-based records are accessible even if physical files are lost.
Real-Time Updates: National schedule changes or booster reminders are delivered instantly.
Increased Engagement: When parents are empowered with information, theyâre more likely to follow through with appointments.
These tools donât just make life easier â they actively help increase awareness of vaccination, making sure no child is left unprotected due to forgetfulness or lack of information.
