Misceverse Ask Game !
Except I'm just answering all the questions cause it's fun :3
Skipping ones that don't apply to me, og ask game by @/meepypk
Putting below read more cause it's gonna be long
☀️ . What are your dynamics? How do you define them?
I'm a Theta! For me that means having aspects in my cycle similar to both alphas and omegas. I expirience heats and ruts along with more typical Omega or alpha behavior accordingly
🌙 . What is your scent? Why do you think that's your scent?
Mate assigned: honey and citrus with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Gets Tangier on the Ω side of my cycle and more spicy and musky on the α side
⭐️ . Are you a system? Does being misces influence you a lot?
Yes! We don't all have misce traits but we have a lot of nonhuman members and a lot of us already did misce things before finding the label
🌺 . Do you buy perfumes / scented candles / other scented objects to try and match your scent?
Yes! I use essential oils to make scent sprays and creams
🌸 . Scents that you like or dislike?
Big fan of earthy and musky smells. Not a fan of synthetic perfume smells
🍄 . What do you enjoy most about your dynamic?
I like the flexibility and predictability of my cycle
💕 . Do you have a mate(s)? If so, what is your mate's dynamic and scent? If not, do you want one? What's your ideal mate?
Yes! αR has a musky spicy scent, like roots and incense and a bit metalic. αW has a smokey scent with a bit of a sweet tang and grit to it. βL has a mellow scent, like rain and pine and pachouli. I love my mates so much :3
👥️️ . Are you in a pack / flock / colony? If yes, describe the way your pack works and who is in it! If not, do you want to be in a pack? What's you dream pack?
Kind of? By nature of being a system we are kinda like a pack but I think my direct relationships with my mates and insys kids are also similar to a pack dynamic
🔊 . What subvocals do you do? How do you communicate and what do your subvocals mean?
Lots of vocals, I produce a sort of thrumming sound when content or energetic, the actual sound isn't detectable by humans but it's like a harmonic hum to me and other plants. I click and purr when content and snarl at things when I'm upset.
🐾 . Does your personal misce identify align with specific verses? What are your behaviors and how does it work?
Not so much, most verses are a little to the left for me. I don't mind, it's different for all of us insys but for me I'm still figuring my nonhuman behaviors out since I mask so hard
↗️ . Are you alterhuman? How does being alterhuman affect your miscecanis identity?
Yes! It's part of what lead me to the Misceverse community
👾 . Do you have friends who are also misces?
Yes!
😶🌫️ . Are you open about being misces in real life? Or do you prefer to keep your identity online?
It's something only a few friends know and I keep it separate from my main blog since I'm kinda scared to be open about it
✨️ . What are some ways you express being misces?
Scenting is a big one. And just talking about it with others, working on allowing myself to explore these aspects of me
🎨 . What's your favorite misce activity to do? (ex: scenting, nesting, defining verse specific terms, etc)
Scenting is a big one. It makes me so happy. Nesting when I'm more hormonal is a bit one but I'm pretty bad at nest building (βL is great at it tho :3 )
🫂 . What do you like about the misces community?
I love how open everyone is and how friendly it is. It's so nice to be able to embrace these parts of myself with others who are also doing the same
🪶 . If you nest, what are things you like to have or include in your nest?
Every blanket and pillow I have. If I don't have enough I use clothes too. I like a nest with tall walls, ideally some kind of closed top but that's hard to do in practice. And it needs enough room for me to stretch out a bit. I like to make it smell like my mates too, it's soothing
🌱 . Do you have particularly strong nesting instincts / habits? Why do you nest?
YES especially during my heats. Like I said I'm pretty bad at it but the urge gets really strong to the point where I CANT leave the nest for hours at a time sometimes
💰 . Do you have any misces specific items or want any items on a wishlist that would make you feel closer to your misce identify?
Not particularly, I'm mostly human shaped and there's nothing that could replicate the body horror that is my ever shifting form
🎆 . What would you like to see more of in the misces community?
Id love to meet more fictives! Especially those whose source isn't explicitly misce adjacent
💛 . What aspects of being misces do you enjoy the most? What about being misces makes you happy?
I love being able to relax and unmask
🦋 . Any specific misces habits / urges you have?
Sitting in a tank of water stationary for hours and glowing like a nuclear reactor. Also I glow and grab things with my feathers unconsciously sometimes
🎈 . Are there certain places / things that make you feel more in tune with your dynamic(s)?
Sitting in a tank of water stationary for hours and glowing like a nuclear reactor. Being underwater really makes me feel connected with myself and my sisters

“I don’t know what you are looking for in me.”
"I'm not looking for anything, Cash, believe me." She was so far beyond the point of hoping for anything from anyone, or trusting anyone to give her anything that she couldn't give herself at this point she couldn't even see that from here. "Good times, had by all," Annie declared, a sweeping gesture flung out around them as she spun in a dizzying circle, only spilling about ... a third of her current drink on the bar's floor. "Good times, and good times, only, so if you're going to be a buzz kill, babe, just -- do me a favor and don't, okay?"

@aeternals / halston get a starter.
The cargo bay is, for the most part, quiet now. The chaos of getting the refugees across from the ship his had found adrift and getting them settled with at least basic needs tended to had been a headache, but a necessary one, and it was a good test of seeing just how well his people would perform under pressure, when elements were outside of their control, in a way that didn't put them in any immediate danger. Most of their 'guests' had settled into whatever makeshift beds and camps they could, but there was one in particular that he made his way to now, crouching down lightly in front of her, elbows resting on his knees as he offered out a bottle of water and a few of the spare ration bars. "You shouldn't go without, sesata," he spoke, his words warm, his smile open and easy. "You need your strength, sasa ke?"

@churnsurvive gets a starter.
He'd been in the brothel suite he'd rented out for nearly two days - a not unusual feat, from what her informants had told her .. at least for him. She'd slipped one of the girls script to let her know when he came up for air, and she'd made her way into the bar shortly before he'd emerged. She'd given him time enough, to have a few drinks, to mellow, before she made her approach, a bottle of whiskey in one hand, two glasses in the other. Sitting, uninvited, she settled the glasses between them, uncorking the bottle and pouring a generous amount of the liquid into both before capping it and setting it back down on to the table. "Do you eat with the same voracious appetite that you fuck, I wonder?"

“Have there been any updates?”
"Nothin' yet, Cap." Amos said, pausing from the parts he was stripping out of the filtration system to double check that he hadn't missed an alert since the last time he'd checked. They were doing a lot of hurrying up and waiting for the Tycho crew to show up with the last of the supplies and ammo after the last rounds of retrofits and repairs at the station. "You in that much of a hurry to be yelled at by Chrissie again?" The question was offered with a smirk, one last turn of a wrench before he dropped the tool into its designated slot on his tool belt and set about putting the last of the filters and covers back into place. "Cause if you're just itching to get yelled at in general, I'm sure I can swing something that'll scratch that for you."

@monsterhunt sent a meme.
I just hope you get the message. '
"Hey, baby." The words warble, just a little, followed by a shallow intake of breath as she fights to maintain her resolve. This isn't the first time she's tried to record the message. Her eyes are red rimmed, her cheeks a little flushed, but she offers a smile, even if it's a little shaky. "It's me." A hand reaches out to let her fingers graze the screen where she imagines his face would be. "It's been two days since I received your last message. It -- It was cut off, partway through, they said all communications from Eros went dark at the same time, so." Her breath catches in her throat again, and she blinks back another rush of tears. "No one ... has answers. Or if they do, they're not telling us. There's all kinds of --" Her fingers pull back from the screen and press to her lips to keep the panic from spilling out. "I don't know what's happened, I don't need to know any of it, Ford, I just -- Please. If-- When you get this, please. Just let me know that you're okay, because I -- I know you are." You have to be. "Just tell me where you are, and I'll find you, okay? I promise." A kiss is pressed to her fingertips, and then to the screen. "I love you. Always."

In other news, I've found some pretty stellar renditions of Koji Kondo's soundtrack for Majora's Mask.
A digression, if you will.
For all the negative assessments on Nintendo's graphical development (or lack thereof) I believe it is made up for through intuitive and engaging gameplay, imaginative storylines, and lovable--if not relatable--characters.
The Legend of Zelda series has become a favorite of mine over the past few years, as well as Pikmin, Mario, and others. I am especially fond of the slow, so-called "cozy" gaming style (hello, Animal Crossing, my beloved) which doesn't seem to play as gaming outright (no real technique, motive, or "goal") but rather an exploration of the act of play itself. Shigeru Miyamoto has spoken on this subject before, but I don't have the source on hand.
While many intensely realistic game developers are delving into cinematic cutscenes, hindering gameplay (and perhaps hinting that said developers would rather be directing films), Nintendo has kept cutscenes to a minimum, if it uses them at all in current titles.
This comes back to my original thought on soundtracks. I can't recall any recent memorable (memorable to me, that is) game soundtracks that haven't been from a Nintendo series. In honesty, I haven't heard many soundtracks outside the Nintendo franchise from the last decade, but usually, in some way or another, I take notice if there's something of quality.
Koji Kondo, Kazumi Totaka, Mahito Yokota, and Manaka Kataoka (and company that worked on Tears of the Kingdom) are among those I believe are crafting some very fine and often beautiful soundtracks for the games they score. The quality of the music enhances the gameplay and helps to illustrate the characters and action in a way simply playing the game cannot. In this way, the two (game mechanic and music) are united as a whole, inseparable. I can't imagine the malleable nature of time without Kondo's score to Majora's Mask, nor the majestic flight sequences in Skyward Sword without Yokota's music, and I certainly can't conceive the laid-back nature of island life without the carefree tunes of Kazumi Totaka in Animal Crossing. I have found much of the music from these games is an enjoyable listen in itself, apart--but not separate--from the game experience. My aural enjoyment is tinged with memories of playing these games.
I fear I've come this far and rambled on without a destination in mind for this post. But it may be that is all for the best, as I found my focus turned toward things which make me happy. I might make it a point to share periodic rambles such as this on subjects I enjoy, if only to exercise my attention away from those thoughts which bring me anxiety, despair, and other such negative states of mind.
I hope this may also prove somewhat entertaining or useful to you, Reader. Perhaps a new game to play or new music to hear. Or even something else altogether.
Until next time, take care and be well--M
#I'll even get around to sharing some of these tracks i mentioned#Im not a well-versed gamer but I know what I enjoy#and Nintendo has been a breath of fresh air#it's a much different gaming exp than what I grew up with

Writing Notes: Modernist Literature
Influenced by worldwide industrialization and the first World War, literary modernism was an emotional and experimental style of prose and poetry that occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century literature.
Literary modernism - allowed writers to express themselves in more experimental ways than in the past.
Modernist works often contain non-linear narratives and free-flowing interior monologues that emphasize the experiences and emotions of the individual.
Writers of modernist literature include Franz Kafka, D. H. Lawrence, Virginia Woolf, T.S. Eliot, Gertrude Stein, Joseph Conrad, Samuel Beckett, William Carlos Williams, and W.B. Yeats.
Characteristics of Modernist Literature
Here are a few distinguishing characteristics of modernist literature.
Experimentation: Modernist literature employed a number of different experimental writing techniques that broke the conventional rules of storytelling. Some of those techniques include blended imagery and themes, absurdism, nonlinear narratives, and stream of consciousness—which is a free flowing inner monologue.
Individualism: Modernist literature typically focuses on the individual, rather than society as a whole. Stories follow characters as they adapt to a changing world, often dealing with difficult circumstances and challenges.
Multiple perspectives: Many modernist writers wrote in the first person perspective with multiple characters to emphasize the subjectivity of each character, and add depth to the story by presenting a variety of viewpoints.
Free verse: Many modernist poets rejected the traditional structure of poetry and opted for free verse, which lacks a consistent rhyme scheme, metrical pattern, or musical form.
Literary devices: Many modernist writers rely on literary devices like symbolism and imagery to help the reader understand the writing, and to create a stronger connection between the text and the reader.
Notable Modernist Writers
There have been many writers responsible for some of the greatest American modernist works, such as:
D.H. Lawrence: The novels of David Herbert Lawrence explore the disillusionment that came with the aftermath of industrialization. His novels like Women in Love (1920) and Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1928) focused on the interiority of their female protagonists, tying in strong themes of sexuality that challenged the mores of the time.
Franz Kafka: Franz Kafka’s work is often grounded in reality and takes fantastical or surrealist terms. One of his most famous works, The Metamorphosis, follows an ordinary man who transforms into a beetle.
Gertrude Stein: Often considered the “mother of modernism,” Gertrude Stein was a feminist poet whose work incorporated stream-of-consciousness and experimental narrative techniques. One of her most famous works is the collection of poems “Tender Buttons,” which uses the sounds of words and fragmented phrases to deliver a particular image to the reader.
T. S. Eliot: T.S. Eliot was a British poet, literary critic, essayist, and editor. Two of his most significant poems are “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” (1915)—his first work, which made liberal use of literary allusions to Shakespeare— and “The Wasteland” (1922)—which provides a dark and introspective look at human nature.
Ezra Pound: Poet Ezra Pound championed free verse and allusion, and is considered the one of first writers in modernist poetry to use imagism—a style that conveyed imagery in sharp, unadorned language. Some of Pound’s notable works include “In a Station of the Metro” (1913), “The Seafarer” (1911), and “The Return” (1917).
Virginia Woolf: Late Victorian novelist Virginia Woolf is responsible for novels like Mrs. Dalloway (1925) and To The Lighthouse (1927). Woolf incorporated stream of consciousness style into her texts, infusing the character’s interior monologue with emotion and complexity.
James Joyce: Modernist author James Joyce is known for telling small, slice-of-life tales in experimental and evocative ways. Dubliners (1914), a collection of 15 short stories, discusses Irish middle-class life in the early twentieth century. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916) was Joyce’s first published novel, which delves into the themes of identity and intellectual enlightenment. Ulysses (1922) is one of Joyce’s most famous novels, the events of which all take place in a single day, and serves as a modern parallel to Homer’s Odyssey.
William Faulkner: William Faulkner is known for his Southern Gothic tales that incorporate unreliable narrators, multiple perspectives, symbolism, and nonlinear narratives. Some of his best-known works include As I Lay Dying (1929)—which follows the quest of a Southern family to bury their deceased mother in her hometown—and The Sound and the Fury (1930)—which tells the story of a Southern aristocratic family’s fall from grace through multiple perspectives.
E. E. Cummings: E.E. Cummings was an avant-garde writer who incorporated a number of different styles in his texts, and was known for his non-traditional format and approach to poetry and novels. Cummings wrote almost 3,000 poems in his life, including “[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]” (1952) and “may i feel said he” (1935).
Ernest Hemingway: Author Ernest Hemingway is one of the most famous authors in American literature, known for his novels and short stories that make economical use of adjectives, and matter-of-fact observations. His short stories “Indian Camp” (1924) and “Hills Like White Elephants” (1927) both exemplify Hemingway’s modernist style.
Katherine Mansfield: Short story author Katherine Mansfield was influenced by visual art and psychoanalysis, and many of her stories contained epiphanies or important revelations about the main character. Some of her well-known stories include “Daughters of the Late Colonel” (1920) and “The Garden Party” (1922).
Marianne Moore: Marianne Moore was an innovative, modernist poet known for her irony and literary precision. Her notable works include “Poetry” (1919), “Nevertheless” (1944), and “A Face” (1949).
Modernist vs. Postmodernist Literature
Modernist literature focused on science, philosophy, art, and a variety of creative elements to examine the human experience.
Postmodernism, however, eschews absolute meaning and instead emphasizes play, fragmentation, metafiction, and intertextuality.
The postmodern literature movement in the mid-20th century was a reaction to the literary style of the modernist period, earlier in the century.
Postmodernism embodied the disenchantment of the post-World War II era, rejecting the idea of absolute truth, avoiding deep analysis, and a focusing on subjective beliefs rather than science.

Would the Fell universes have schools? Cuz I remember while reading the Hamper that Rus going to a school was never mentioned. Did he just recieve the equivilent of home schooling from Mal?? Or was it just not considered safe enough to have a bunch of kids in one place with no parent supervision??
There are schools in 'fell verses, but it's...complicated.
Most parents don't trust their kids' safety to the hands (or paws, or tentacles, whatever) of a stranger. Even in the best-case-scenario of a teacher being fully trustworthy, there's always the question of how capable they are of protecting one kid, much less a whole gaggle of them in their care, against the creeps and lowlifes looking to score easy EXP and maybe not caring where they get it.
A lot of families go the route of home-schooling, or hiring private tutors. It's a much better way to keep an eye on the little ones by having them close, in the house, while they're still learning--about the world, and about how to defend themselves.
There are some extra options for more institutionalized education, though!
The reigning monarch does tend to have a school for children established, under the protection of their name and status, well-funded and somewhat regularly patrolled by the Royal Guard. Not every monster family takes advantage of it, for a variety of reasons (distance, finances, persistent safety concerns, etc), and it's not mandatory, but it is there.
There's also adult education, which is a popular option. Grown monsters interested in continuing to build on their knowledge base can undertake some testing to establish where they're at academically and accredit the things they've already learned, and self-serve for things they want to educate themselves more about. Undernet databases are a good portion of it, but in-person meetings with experts and professionals can be arranged for more direct, guided learning.
It's college, more or less, but looser, more free-form and largely dependent on who's making use of it from semester to semester.
For Rus specifically, he just stuck with the homeschooling. By the time Mal felt comfortable sending him out into the big wide world alone, (and Rus felt comfortable going), getting enrolled in Empress Toriel's school was the last thing either of them was thinking about, and Rus ditched his stripes not too long after anyway and it was too late for that. 😩
He did do a bit of self-education afterwards, nothing in-person (thanks, anxiety), but some haphazard poking around in the academic databases, reading about things he was interested in or had specific questions about.
Looking back on it, he'd probably say he should've studied a little bit more, but that's a him-problem! XD

"Senator Targaryen." The woman's voice still held a hint of the Martian drawl, her tone pleasant and welcoming as she stepped forward as she finished drying her hands on the kitchen towel that was then draped back into place at the waist of her half apron. Her smile was warm, a hand extended to gesture the platinum woman further into the restaurant. "I must say, it was a rather welcome surprise to be asked to host you this evening. We do not often have such an opportunity. I would be happy to see to your service personally, or, if you prefer, welcome you to the chef's table tonight, if you have not made other arrangements."

He's got the rifle stripped down to its base components, which he's spent the last hour or two methodically greasing, cleaning and fixing, as necessary. It had been a little bit finicky the last time he'd used it, and he wasn't the type to just sit and do nothing if he could help it. He's pretty sure that's not what the work bench in the med bay was supposed to be used for, but at least it wasn't the mess hall table, which he'd been chastised about using as a work bench before by Alex. He'd glanced up at the sudden shift in the sounds that came from the autodoc, making sure there wasn't some alerts that meant he'd have no choice but to call for support staff from the station.
When he'd seen it was all good, he'd taken the time to wipe the oil and grime from his hands before sliding the stool over, closer to where she was, already reaching for the bulb of water he'd had nearby to hand off to her. "Mostly, yeah." He'd left a few times, to get something to work on, to grab a snack, to refill his coffee, but he'd had the Roci share the med chair's statuses with him on the ship's screens anytime he had, just in case. "Here, drink up, but not too fast unless you feel like upchucking."
She sleeps deeply and soundly. How not? There’s a constant stream of medications keeping her peacefully sedate; despite that she often has trouble sleeping, she doesn’t so much as shift until many hours later. She doesn’t dream, either. Her mind is blank, a vast expanse of empty space where her thoughts laid previously. Wakefulness is a hook that drags her up from murky depths, and when her eyes finally open, she’s sluggish — and disoriented.
A monitor at her side flashes irritably, catching her panic on the screen as her heart rate kicks up considerably. There’s a long, long moment where she simply stares upward at the ceiling, lost in the terrifying place between unconscious and remembrance, before her gaze shifts and snags on him. She inhales deep, exhales long. Settles her heartbeat again.
“Have you—” her voice is rough, throat gone dry, “have you been here this whole time?”
