“Think we’ll ever stop doing this?” 

The bone needle pierced the chilled skin of Alastor’s forearm, the pale ivory re-emerging crimson. A Voidreaver had ripped a blade of Seraphim steel through the artery, leaving his paling flesh more akin to a fetid cut of lamb. It was a simple injury, inconsequential for a Lich.

“Only when it is safe,” Alastor strained. He clenched his uninjured hand until the spikes of his knuckles turned white, covering the evidence of the reddish bruises that colored them. 

Morgrim shook his head lightly, furrowing his brows into a scowl. It deepened with each passing moment until the Shrike was glowering at the mess of blood and ravaged skin. He searched deep within himself, unable to parse through the tangle of rage and fear that snared his mind. It had no direction and it had no value, as he was not sure where to direct it.

“We’ll find peace,” Alastor attempted to reassure. His statement fell flat, accented by the pain in his voice as the needle plunged into his flesh once more. A drip of frigid sweat trailed down his neck. “Once we deal with the Aconite, once we fulfill our duties...”

“I can handle it, Alastor. I can not be killed. You, on the other hand...” 

Alastor let his head go limp against the pillow that cushioned it. “We die in different ways, you and I.” 

“I recover quicker than you.” 

“Not from a cut of Seraphim steel.”

“What if it was silver, instead?” 

“It wasn’t, though.” 

“What if it was silver, instead?” Morgrim repeated.

Alastor shut his mouth and grit his teeth, keeping the obvious answer to himself. The catgut thread was promptly tied off along with the wound. In its wake, vivid crimson stained Morgrim’s skin and the steel of his prosthetic. The pale gray of his Guild uniform was left a striking black, soaked through with emerald mana and Lichblood. 

The stench of copper and decay would have left a lesser man sickened. Here, there lingered only an air of exhaustion and unfettered concern.

The artwork is more symbolic than the story, but I wanted to share an example of what the artwork is "about" anyway.

Alastor is always so ready to rip himself apart for Morgrim and throw himself into anything that might hurt his partner. No one can understand them quite like the other, and no one can understand the eternity they will share. Alastor is a Lich and Morgrim a Shrike, so they're mercifully cursed with eternal life. He always seems to only allow himself to heal second, physically and mentally. Morgrim will always be there to stitch him up, though.

This sat in my wip folder for a long while, so I'm happy to have it finished. I'm also quite happy with the outcome. I don't share my OCs often so I'm happy to have something to post about them for once.

By nature it does not normally bother with beings as small and pointless as our kind. Only when starved and low on the energy it needs to shift through planes will it devour a planets most miniscule life forms. Its appetite can only be truely quenched by feasting upon demons. A demon hunter. Often they hunt solo, though they are known to hunt in packs for larger prey. Its long serpentine body is its main transportation device when on land. It also uses this like a boa or anaconda to entangle its prey.It is capable of of standing on its three bladed arms to psition itself or to strike with its snake like body. The two upper arms are used as its main attack weapon, while the lower is a secondary as well as a finishing weapon. Its venomous stinger subdues its prey to turn its lifeforce into food and energy. The orbs are its device for traveling through planes. Its body produces them through time. The bigger the wraith gets the more it needs to guide its massive body through time and space. Multiple brain centers provide control and sight in different directions

Rengar has braids, not dreadlocks. They aren’t the same thing.

Rengar has pink paw pads and a pink nose. His hands and feet can be soft and squishy when he’s actually bothering with taking care of them. Otherwise they’re both pretty rough to the touch.

His hands are hands, not paws, even though he does have paw pads on them.

When traveling to and through cold climes, Rengar will begin adapting to the environment. Over a period of weeks and months, he will begin growing out an undercoat and fluff up. He appreciates this natural extra warmth but is annoyed by how it can cause his armor and clothing to fit a little more closely than he likes. The indents in his fur caused by how often he wears his armor aren’t well liked either.

It makes him feel fat too. That’s not the case but that’s how he feels. Not that he’s ever going to admit that to anyone.

Rengar’s the type of guy to spend time getting to know his partner’s scent really well because he wants to be able to recall that at any time. He’ll bury his face in their hair and breathe deeply, likely begin purring like a Peterbilt, and cuddle up close. You’d better be okay with that because if he’s feeling particularly cuddly you will get pulled down onto his chest for naps.

Because my interpretation of Rengar is secretly a giant house cat when he’s with those he trusts.

Also of note, unless his partner’s okay with continuously traveling, Rengar’s more likely to stay around wherever they’ve decided to lay their heads. He won’t roam far from home if there’s something worth coming back to.

Rengar has retractable claws. I say this because it makes sense to me for him to be able to do that.

Rengar was raised by humans - specifically his father Tāne Navarro, a legendary hunter known across Valoran. Remember, I’m a mixture of old and new lore in the case of Rengar’s abandonment and adoption by a human hunter. This means he didn’t meet the hunter that gave him a knife and shoved him down a gully to make his first kill.

Rengar did indeed meet and fight with Kha’Zix and is nearly blind in his left eye. He can see blurry shapes from about five to seven feet away through it and about ten feet away when using his eyeglass. The eye wasn’t eaten out by the Voidreaver as stated in the new lore. He has no idea what Kha’Zix’s name may be because why would they introduce themselves to one another?

When Rengar is embarrassed, his ears bend sideways on his head, going from halfway to nearly flat against his scalp.

Champ Design Breakdown: Kha’Zix, the Voidreaver

When Kha’Zix was first teased, I swore to myself that I’d learn to play him. A scary-ass Void bug assassin? That sounded like so much fun to play!

While I never really learned how to play Kha, I definitely grew to love how thematic of a champion he was. Kha’Zix doesn’t hit every theme perfectly, but the ones he does are grand slams.

Change is good

The Void is home to a potentially endless number of terrifying creatures, but Kha’Zix has the distinction of being the most insidious to reach Runeterra. As he kills and consumes other beings, Kha’Zix takes their best traits and incorporates them into his own physiology. The more creatures Kha’Zix devours, the more powerful and adaptable he becomes. There is no environment that he cannot adjust to - and therefore no place you are ever safe from his predations.

However, Kha’Zix’s path to becoming the ultimate life form was delayed when he met Rengar. The Pridestalker attempted to kill the Voidborn shortly after he emerged on Runeterra, but Rengar’s lack of practice gave Kha’Zix a second chance. The two predators hunted each other for the better part of a day and traded grievous wounds, but neither could bring down the other. As they limped away to recover, Kha’Zix swore that he would one day consume Rengar - after all, the vastayan hunter had proven himself to be a worthy adversary.

Kha’Zix is basically an evolving xenomorph that hunts prey down and kills it from the shadows - if that doesn’t describe an assassin, I don’t know what else does. He should be able to annihilate key targets in fights, while having the ability to adapt his strategies on the fly. “Evolution” is a big buzzword here- Kha should feel as though he has a flexible approach to the game.

Consume and adapt

Kha’Zix gets a lot of his themes right - especially his predilection for isolated targets. Taste Their Fear (Q) deals significantly increased damage against units that are too far from their friends and makes up the majority of Kha’s damage, which fits his theme perfectly. Leap (E) is another flavorful ability  that plays up his predatory nature - I can almost hear him “screeeee!” as he lunges out of a bush. Finally, Void Assault (R) fits in with Kha’Zix’s stealthy killer angle and lets him disengage or juke away from enemy champions.

The evolution system is also a huge plus for Kha’Zix. Being able to choose an ability to upgrade makes Kha’Zix feel adaptable and makes his abilities even more thematic - Taste Their Fear gets a reduced cooldown when used against an isolated target, Void Spikes (W) applies a slow to isolated targets, Leap lets Kha kill whole crowds of enemies in Alien-style, and Void Assault gives him more juking power.

However, evolution only really works on paper - at any given time, Kha has three “good” evolutions, and a fourth that no one ever bothers taking. It makes Kha’Zix’s whole evolutionary theme feel a little underwhelming, especially if you’ve been playing him a lot.

Kha’Zix also has a few “meh” parts of his kit. Unseen Threat (P) has a cool-ass name, but really doesn’t do much for Kha except give his first attack from the fog of war bonus magic damage. Meanwhile, Void Spikes is cool on paper, but the particle effects needed to make the skill feel readable in-game are too noisy. Kha is a stealth assassin, not a spike machine gun.

To truly know someone, eat them and walk a mile in their feet

Kha’Zix has some pretty disappointing aspects to him, especially since his biggest schtick - evolution - is ultimately a flop. However, he hits basically EVERY note of his “alien assassin” theme. If you don’t want to go rewatch Alien after playing Kha’Zix, there’s something wrong with you - and that alone helps push the Voidreaver to a better grade.

Final Grade: B+. Pretty close, but needs work to really match the theme.
