I see plenty of modern AUs w Shen Yuan and Airplane besties, and enjoy them immensely. However. I would like to see Shen Yuan and Mobei Jun besties. They went to the same rich kid school and spent a lot of time in the same hospital (SY for his general ill health, MBJ bc his uncle keeps trying to Count Olaf him). They’re both ostracized for being weird so they try being weird together. Shen Yuan is always cold and Mobei Jun is always overheating so they end up developing casual platonic intimacy. Everyone assumes they’re dating because they’re always touching and holding each other. Especially good if they play opposite Airplane and the horrible little middle schooler he babysits/mentors bc he’s friends with the kid’s poor mom and she’s always busy at the laundromat. They’re both there just coping and seething watching the most obviously together gay couple walk around holding hands and being hot. Airplane is trying to become their third while Bunhe is trying to become Shen Yuan’s live in aid. Airplane will drive to the MoShen residence to pick up Bunhe from the single afternoon SY agreed to let him clean and Bunhe cries the entire car ride home because MoShen fell asleep cuddling on the couch.

I really disagree with the idea that "hua cheng hates everyone but Xie Lian" because it's more that we just hardly ever get to see him interact with someone he doesn't have personal beef with.

like the people in ghost city seem to genuinely like him. he's known to provide protection to ghosts being hunted by cultivators. he literally *ripped out his eye* to protect a group of random humans. he's not an evil demon king with a soft spot for this one guy. he is genuinely kind to people who aren't Xie Lian sometimes, especially people who exist outside heaven's sphere of "respectability" ie ghosts.

is he rude and abrasive? yes, but there is a difference between being nice and being kind. are his morals dubious? yes, but so is heaven; hua cheng just doesn't try to hide it. Hua Cheng is completely sincere and is transparent about all his actions both good and bad which contrasts him from the cover-ups and false politeness of heaven

i knowww everyone wants maric to be alistair so bad and i know the books present a younger maric like alistair but im so invested in a completely rotten through to the core maric theirin who has sacrificed everything he has ever had and wanted for power and is now left with nothing but that power and no peers, no great loves of his life and no real family. stuck in a marriage with a friend he didnt love, suffocated by loghain's constant presence bc its a reminder of all the way he's lacking and all the things he "allowed" loghain to push him to do (bc its easier to blame loghain than take responsibility ofc) and loghain's refusal to understand or empathise with his struggle, and stuck with a son he doesn't quite know what to do with and who he can never really make understand everything it cost for him to have this life that even maric himself never got.

what if i wrote a “shen yuan transmigrates into a wife” oneshot but the whole premise is based on the song “gone, i’m gone” from hadestown and its overall theme is wanderlust and freedom and it starts out as Shen Yuan settling into life in the palace and trying to avoid harem drama and thinking he can just live with his head down for the rest of his new life, only to be hit with a sudden intense yearning to explore his new world the likes he’s never felt before. What if he was sickly in his last life. What if he spent his entire last life indoors. Trapped between four walls. What if love is not a gilded cage. What if he begins clawing at the walls of his enclosure, desperate to escape because he wants to live, god please let him live. He can’t do this again. What if he spent months preparing for his escape and in that same breath getting the attention of some of the other wives around him because he has changed and it makes them wary. what if he got binghe’s attention as he is wont to do. What if he left. What if Shen Yuan was born with a bottomless pit in his stomach and a gaping maw in his chest. What if he was starving. What if he was starving for the world around him.
