there's this horrible school of attempted literary criticism on here that holds that 1. everything in any given author's work is autobiographical, especially if it seems "real" and 2. those themes seeped into the work subconsciously, revealing something about the author that they're either trying to hide or unaware of themself. it drives me up a wall, since it seems to deny the fundamental skills that make people good writers: the empathy to imagine and portray experiences that one hasn't had oneself and the ability to take one's personal emotional experiences or worldview and fold them, consciously, into the unworked clay of a narrative.
#there's a tolkien post that's the bane of my fucking existence -#it's something like 'wwi was normal for me anyway here's a book about how war changes you forever'#and i don't know why you'd think 1. that he didn't know wwi was painful for him#2. that those themes are *unintentional*#anyway it comes up lots of other places -#the 'naive' or 'artless' work is Truer & so This Happened Accidentally#not 'someone thought about this and did it skillfully so it's good'#i'm spiteful today sorry#god i have so many mean thoughts about this tendency vs. the way people talk about ai art

Introducing my Digital Assistant - How I use AI in my work and my life
People often ask me how I use AI for my blog. They think now that ChatGPT can write on every topic, there is no need for people who create content. Let me share with you how I use AI nowadays. First of all, you should know that I love my wonderful digital assistant. This is how I call ChatGPT 😊. It helps me with so many things: makes the research I need for my articles, gives me the body of the…

Even though I know it’s all intentional, I truly hate how we’ve become forced to normalize AI. I do think that the manufacturing of Artificial Intelligence was not done with malicious intent and has the capabilities of actually doing good, but time and time again ai is being used in literally everything for the worst reasons and getting its getting harder to escape.
From AI being used to scrape people’s hard work all over the internet, to giving predators and abusers more power in fabricating porn of strangers, to being used to strengthen racial bias in surveillance technology and aid in the development of weapons of war and mass destruction against marginalized groups of people…it’s just too fucking much. It’s so exhausting wanting to live in a world where we just didn’t need or have any of this shit, and it wasn’t like this a few years ago either. But now you can’t step outside without seeing something about AI, or a promotional ad for a new system to install. You can’t engage online anywhere without coming across AI software, and literally every single device in our present day implements AI to some degree, and it’s so fucking annoying.
I don’t want to keep worrying about the next idiot that’s spoon feeding my work into their AI system because they lack humanity and imagination. I don’t want to have to manually turn off AI detection on all of my apps and my phone just to use something. I shouldn’t have to be more mindful about the media I consume to distinguish whether or not it’s original or just more AI slop. I know it’s all intentional since we live in a hyper-capitalist world that cares more about profit margins & rapid productivity. But I really do vehemently hate how artificial intelligence has become such a fundamental aspect of our day to day lives when all it does is make the general population dumber and less capable of thinking for themselves.
Sincerely fuck AI. And if you use AI, I really do suggest you read up on how the data centers built to manage these AI systems suck up all of our resources for a simple prompt input. Who cares about answering a question in ChatGPT, entire communities don’t have water because they’re too busy cooling down the servers where people ask what 6 + 10 is cause their brains are so fried they can’t fire a single fucking neuron.

#fuck ai#and fuck everyone that uses it idc#it’s so hard being a creative and wanting original work when there’s ai slop everywhere#please just burn it all to the ground#enough of that bullshit you do not need a smart fridge with a touchscreen and ai built into it#its all just another form of state surveillance advertised as convenience it’s not normal#when you’re mindless sheep you’re easier to manipulate remember that#the way I work in the legal field and I hear my bosses talk about using AI to read case briefs is crazy#we live in the bad place

Okay, get ready for an instant memory! Look at the camera... Ready... Say, "fuzzy pickles!"
---
a continuation to my other earthbound au post
alternate spooky version for funsies below (earthbound spoilers if you care!)
alright listen, i just like drawing spooky stuff and if i'm drawing earthbound au stuff i'm not ignoring that boss fight because m a n what the heck was that
and if you don't know earthbound, it's okay. the kiddos are doing fine! have a bonus doodle

#dcmk#detective conan#edogawa conan#mouri ran#haibara ai#hattori heiji#my art#detcobound#to the moot i talked to about this au - this goes out to you 🫡#anyways hooo boy here's some rambling as usual#i wanted to draw heiji once for this lil au idea because i like the guy#(he's jumping in the last polaroid he is not tall in fact he is smol)#and it was fun drawing the gang as kiddos posing for some good ol' fuzzy pickles#in the process i thought of more ideas for the au#like making agasa dr. andonuts and in turn haibara's father - i think that works out well#but agasa would actually be a good dad woah#having ayumi in place of tony would also work too#alternatively all of the detective boys would be at polestar preschool#i don't really have much more for this au - it was just an excuse to combine two things i enjoy#the idea of the gang being childhood friends going on wacky (and at times harrowing) adventures just seems fun y'know

do you think it's weird or unfounded to not want to use chat gpt due to the environmental cost? i feel really strongly that i want to completely avoid it (and, like, recreational/work related ai in general) for that reason, but people seem to think this is really weird when i express that as a reason. but i feel like i should be able to make this call if i want to and that's a good reason to not use it. i don't know?!?!?! i don't get anything anymore?!?!?!
#my workplace is really leaning heavily ai#and people keep seeming to think that i too will use it#and i'm always just like 'NO!!!!!!!'#so far no one has pushed me on it and it's not required at all#but idk. is it going to stop being our call & become mandatory one day? D:#because (and i know this sounds so weird) morally i don't want to touch it!#this reminds me of one time when i was in acting class in college#and the prof was out so a TA was teaching#and we were playing a game where everyone had to repeat what everyone else had said and then add something on#and when it got to me i refused to do it because there were a bunch of swear words and i don't -- alas -- cannot -- swear#and i got in trouble with the TA and almost got kicked out of class lol#(but the other students stood up for me so i didn't!)#i get very rigid about things and i'm like 'sorry can't EVER do it!'#the swearing may be. ya know. completely morally neutral.#(though i still don't swear anything that can't be said on old timey network tv! because i'm weird!)#but i feel like i have way more of a case with this chat gpt stance#dollsome's deep thoughts#p.s. does this way of my brain operating suggest some profound neurodivergence?#i often wonder.#society told me swearing was bad when i was a kid and i've internalized it FOREVER.#i said 'shit' once when i was like 10 (in homage to a line delivery from mrs doubtfire!)#and then i cried inconsolably for like two hours and never swore again#(this was totally internally enforced btw. i don't have any memory of any adults ever caring whatsoever.)#even to this very day i wouldn't even swear alone.#does my brain work like that of merricat from we have always lived in the castle? maybe a little.#these tags have gone a lot of places#the point is. i think it's okay to be anti-chat gpt for moral reasons. and also coolness reasons.#and swearing = fine obviously. but not my style.#unless i'm writing and then there's no rules obvi

masterlist of places to submit creative writing
it's intimidating thinking about submitting your precious work to judgement, but all the rejections are worth it when you finally get that one glowing acceptance email that puts your anxieties and impostor syndrome to bed. but where do you submit? it can be incredibly overwhelming trying to find the right sites/journals/zines to submit to so i thought i'd create a little collection of places i have found to submit to and i will update it whenever i find new discoveries.
PROSE ONLY
The Fiction Desk
They consider stories between 1k words and 10k words, paying 25 GBP per thousand words for stories they publish and contributors receive two complimentary paperback copies of the anthology. (A submission fee of 5 GBP for stories which sucks)
Extra Teeth
Works of fiction and creative nonfiction between 800 and 4,000 words receive a 140 GBP payment upon publication in the magazine as well as two copies that feature your work. If your work is selected to published online, you get 100 GBP instead. A Scottish based publication that also offers mentorships to budding writers. (Free)
Clarkesworld
Fantasy and sci-fi magazine accepting submissions of fiction from 1k to 22k words, paying 14 cent per word. Make sure you read their submissions page carefully, it gives you a good idea of what they're looking for and what will get you one of those disheartening rejection emails. (Free)
Granta
Open to unsolicited submissions of fiction and non-fiction. Unfortunately they do charge a 3.50 GBP fee for prose submissions, but they do offer 200 free submissions during every opening period (1 March - 31 March, 1 June - 30 June, 1 September - 30 September, 1 December - 31 December) to low income authors. No set minimum or maximum length, but most accepted works fall within 3,000 and 6,000 words.
Indie Bites
A fantasy short fiction publisher looking for clever hooks, strong characters and interesting takes on their issues' themes. Submissions should be no longer than 7,500 words. You get an honorarium of 5 GBP for each piece of yours that they publish - it's not much, but yay money! (Free)
Big Fiction
Novella publishers (7,500-20,000 words) looking for self-contained works of fiction that play with things like the linearity of narratives, perspective, structure and language. (Free)
Strange Horizons
Employing a broad definition of speculative fiction, they offer 10 cents a word for spec fiction up to 10,000 words but preferably around 5,000. (Free)
Fantasy and Science Fiction
They publish fiction up to 25,000 words in length, offering 8-12 cents per word upon publishing. (Free)
Fictive Dream
Short stories from 500 words to 2,500. They want writing with a contemporary feel that explores the human condition. (Free)
POETRY AND PROSE
eunoia review
Up to 10 poems in a single attachment, up to 15,000 words of fiction and creative non-fiction (can be multiple submissions amounting to that or a single piece). It's free to submit to, and they respond in 24 hours (I can vouch for that).
Confingo Magazine
Stories up to 5,000 words of any genre and poems (a max of three) up to 50 lines. Free to submit to and offer a 30 GBP payment to authors whose work is accepted.
Grain Magazine
Another Canadian based publication also supportive of marginalised identities. They accept poems (max. of six pages), fiction (max. of 3,500 words) or three flash fiction works that total 3.5k, literary nonfiction (3,500 words) and queries for works of other forms. All contributors are paid 50 CAD per page to a max of 250. Authors outside of Canada will need to pay a 5 CAD reading fee but they do offer a limited number of fee waivers if this impacts your ability to submit.
BTWN
An up-and-coming lit mag looking for diverse works that play with genres, breaks the rules and is a little weird. They want what typical lit mags reject. Stories up to 7,000 words, non-fiction up to 7,000 words and up to 4 poems totalling no more than 10 pages, hybrid work, comics/graphics up to 5 pages, original periodicals up to 14,000 words of prose or 20 pages of poetry. (Free)
Gutter
Accepting submission in spring and autumn work that challenges, re-imagines or undermines the status quo and pushes at the boundaries of form and function. If your contribution is chosen, you get 30 GBP for your work as well as a complimentary copy of the issue. Up to three poems (no more than 100 lines), fiction and essays (up to 2,500 words)
Whisk(e)y Tit
This one's worth checking out just for their logo. They're looking for fiction whether it's short stories, flash fiction or novel excerpts up to 7,000 words, up to 5 poems, up to 7,000 word essays, screenplays and stage plays (can be full works or excerpts up to 20 pages). (Free)

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who gave support over this insane AI nonsense that happened. I will never stop creating and I will never bow to the will of those who use AI as a way to one up writers/artists.
To those who use AI to "write" stories or "create" artwork - you disgust us and you will NEVER have a place in fandom. You will never be better than those of us who put our blood, sweat and tears into our fics and artwork.
You will never stop me from pouring my soul into every fic I write.
#mandie says a thing#fuck AI#ai has no place in fandom#ok to rb#write/draw it badly or not at all#fuck generative ai and fuck those who plug our hard work into it

the company i work for decided that its switching from the german formal "You"(Sie) to the informal "you" (Du) in all of our websites so now we have to scour the entire database to change it and i quite frankly hate that, not just bc the unecessary extra work but especially bc its such a weird and unecessary change
i bet its bc everything here is getting englishfied (both literally and culturally it feels like, when my new boss talks its half in english bc every second german word is just replaced by an english one despite there being perfectly fine words for it in german too, its so annoying) and bc they want to sound more personal in hopes of getting more clients bc 'company is your fwiend uwu!!', i know this here is the amercian tm site so you wouldnt understand really but i do not want to be greeted with 'du' by companies, no, thats too personal, you dont know me and im not giving you my data, stay away!!
i guess thats how i would describe it .. the formal you is like a polite distance, like someone you dont know staying outside your personal space, but when its the informal 'you' it feels invasive unless i told you you can call me that, and that goes double for companies
maybe its a small thing that doesnt seem important but i cant stand it, im just a little part time worker doing data work so i got no say in it but the companies founder also announced hes giving his post to his kids some time ago so ...... since then theres been alot of changes and new projects that solely aim to imitate whats popular and whats done by other companies, despite ours being one that is, or used to be, intentionally different, like, that was the POINT, but i guess chasing trends is just too appealing for CEOs
#ganondoodles talks#personal#rare personal rant#theres more and more changes that feel so weirdly forced#like man#i thought being different was the whole point#like climate and ethics are .. or were .. the core idea and now i guess its just fine to do whatever conventional companies are doing#yeah woohoo lets also do an app thing that forces people to sign up if they want reasonable prices!#smartphones the standard everwhere!#who needs anything physical if you can put it in an a phone so syphon off data directly out of people fingertips!! yea!!!#lets use AI pitcures bc we refuse to hire more graphic desingers and they are jsut so overworked uwu#climate? ethic? whats that#argh#sorry this needed to get out#recently had a stupid conversation with a coworker bc i asked them why we are okay with AI shit now when it goes against what this-#company was presumably founded on#and he was rly defensive and said welll we dont have time and its cheap and also maybe we should got WITH the time#like that last thing especially pissed me tf off#but i cant afford to lose this job#im starting to hate it more though so the dream of being able to stay like this might not be real#i cant get a job in this place that is as nice to my mental health so idk man#i wish i was good enough at merch and online stuff so i could live of that#but even trying to find out how taxes work on that stuff is a nightmare to me

"You think you're better than me because you don't use AI?" You think others are better than you if you're using AI. If you didn't think your own abilities were inferior, you would use them.
#organic home grown content#anti chatgpt#anti generative ai#anti genai#mainly thinking about creative or intellectual work here not like... work emails#not that i support using ai for those but that's usually done for convenience and because those tasks are boring#and therefore isn't coming from a place of insecurity

I was thinking about the fact that with most DCMK characters I use one distinct name for them, but when it comes to Haibara Ai / Miyano Shiho, I'm all over the place. So I wanted to see how other people most commonly refer to her.
There are definitely more options than just these listed but I didn't want to get too verbose / granular. Please feel free to elaborate in the tags to account for my exclusions.
#dcmk#miyano shiho#haibara ai#ai haibara#shiho miyano#detective conan#fandom poll#poll#when I started out in the fandom i only really called her haibara because that's what i was used to hearing#then started referring to her as ai (since when i work with a character i tend to firstname them)#however when speaking aloud in English that can make things confusing grammatically. so I will sometimes go back to Haibara in that case#DOUBLE however. as i've gotten more attached and explored her character it has led me to think a lot of her life before she was shrunk#and thus often called her shiho in that context. and now that ive gotten attached her as shiho:#i often think of her as shiho even when she's being haibara ai#so when i'm talking about her i'm now ALL OVER THE PLACE#I still try to switch between to differentiate if i'm having a conversation pertaining to her within a fixed point in the story#But if i'm making a more generalized statement - speculating about her feelings about a person or something she likes etc#it's a toss-up which name i'll use#it's also led to me flip-flopping between whether I should call her Ai or Shiho in a third-person-close pov#or hell - even 'haibara'. People often get acclimated to responding to what they are most often called#and she's called haibara way more often than she's called ai (and didn't grow up being able to acclimate to the full name regardless)#So 'Ai' as a name may be even less identifiable for her#Anyway. she is a creature of many many names

When I hold a pencil, and make my marks on a page, the pencil is the tool, and the effort is mine.
Time, knowledge and practice, refine my marks in both form and function, and the edges of my mind stay sharp.
When I press AI to provide me marks, it takes the pencil from my hand and gives me facsimiles of others' efforts.
It erases my form and hands me guesses and half-truths, expecting I should appreciate mine own impending ignorance.
#quin muses#a friend of mine works in a place that's been pushing for people to use AI#I'm expecting to see a similar push at my own job#I intend to push back.#Everything I know how to do I learned by doing it#if I stop being the one to do it then I stop being the one that knows how#and to me#the only thing better than creating#is learning.#Why would I outsource either?

Holy moly,I dreamed last night there was a fifth MHA movie!
It was set after canon, I think, though some things don't match up.
Its animation was like the perfect blend of 2D and 3D, kinda like the Demon Slayer anime but using a more saturated color palette.
Don't ask me what it was about because the fragments are fading even as I'm typing this down, but I remember Izuku and Ochako with bandages matching their wounds in the final fight. And Tsuyu was there, too. Also Toga, I think? I'm not sure.
One scene was pretty vivid, and it was about Toshi making a public appearance somewhere, rolling around in that wheelchair. He was attacked by a bunch of goons and Toshi being Toshi jumps up and punches them. It's all the SmallMight action one could ask for. Broken Toshi, beating up goons with his bare hands and some random items found nearby.
I also remember the main villain being Re-Destro, except the story was trying to make me feel for him bc he couldn't risk acting like the big bad for his own safety and had to stay in the background.
There were also original villains, but I'm afraid my memory of them is already too vague ... Damn.
Someone extract that Toshi scene from my mind, I need to see it animated.
#yagi toshinori#mha movie#weird dreams#just some thoughts#dream log#mha movie 5???#I know season 8 will give us quirkless Toshi fighting#But part of me is apparently still dying to see SmallMight in a brawl#I wonder if ai and dreaming works in a similar manner#neurons firing at random and producing more or less random content#But thats a discussion for another time and place

#lobotomy corporation#lobcorp#hod#hod lobcorp#lobotomy corp spoilers#I GUESS i almost forgot i drew her box form#lobcorp spoilers#and michelle actually. ..#both very tiny. itty bitty. microscopic#other sephirah there too as normal. i cant have her alone. and Angelina as well on the top patting her#i have a hard time fully capturing her for some reason. in my mind. maybe its because is the disconnected period!!! mentally#she genuinely wishes to care and be kind yet theres a dissonance with what she does..? or how it ends up being taken or what she does to en#up bringing those actions into reality. she can be forceful? wanting to have employees attend therapy sessions and meetings for suppression#tactics. which i think is also something the safety team is incharge of iirc. so that means shes doing way more that what she needs to on#her job as a sephirah. just for the sake of employees#she really does care as shes one of the only to Directly attempt to change their circumstances and quality of life and health#sure chesed doesnt punish employees when they dont do their work assigned or stress them out with work#but he doesnt actively push to attempt to make changes to aid employees besides the research perks which is to the manager#yesod IS right next to her and does also genuinely care but when it comes to employees hes distant at best when it comes to them and the#way he tries to protect them is by enforcing rules but he doesnt really create or attempt to help them like hod does#yesod is sort of a passive? way of doing it. yes he doesn make a push to enforce said rules but he doesnt make new ones. just follows what#is already there in place. hod tries to make new ways and not just for the safety of people like how yesod's has them physically fine and#not letting them over a certain threshold of mental corruption but she tries to have a program to Directly Address such a thing#its born out of care but the genuine worry of being a good person and her naivety ends up having it do more harm than good#sure there may be some employees that actually like and find it useful but so many are just accepting to their fate of Dying to where#her care seems pointless. shes a sephirah and to them a literal metal box why would they go ahead and feel bad for what an 'ai' is feeling#as she is interrupting their free time in the company#which is rude. and shit. iirc the counseling is compulsory but people go because shes a sephirah and their superior. the thought was there#but again it comes off wrong and ends up not working because shes their superior in the end#EEK!!! yeah... hod. the hod. there is WAY more but i can't fit it all here and i already typed enough
