rotating shadowpeach dynamics and angst in my brain and wound up drawing a Peter Pan-ish AU, ft. Sun Wukong as Pan and Macaque as Captain Hook

this was mostly inspired by what I've heard about the original Peter Pan being a little darker in some areas than expected - basically take the shadowpeach backstory of 'events outside our monkey bros control force distance between the two besties, SWK basically rolls with the punches and SEM does NOT leading to one ugly blowout of a fight that permanently fucks up the bromance' and apply Peter Pan lore:

Mac becomes Wukong's tagalong/lost boy/BFF when Smol, but as time goes on, he grows up and SWK does NOT, losing interest in the friendship and sending Mac into a panic. He desperately tries to hold onto their friendship and chase after SWK, but that just backfires when Wukong lashes out. Down a hand and an eye, Macaque becomes obsessed with vengeance and continues trying to catch/kill SWK, growing up into a ruthless pirate captain

something that was just tugging on me with this idea is that in this AU, SWK's character growth basically gets surgically removed on account of the 'permanently an immature child' thing, and WOW yeah that part of the Peter Pan lore is kinda underused for angst wtf

One of the most important things to practice in analyzing or even appreciating media is placing that media in the appropriate historical context.

For example, it is incredibly short-sighted to criticize Revolutionary Girl Utena for being formulaic and reusing animation sequences based on preferences and standards from the 2020s, but it's also incredibly short-sighted to only rebut that the repetitiveness is thematic when it was animated in 1997 and directed by a guy who worked on Sailor Moon.

You could fill more than two silos at the very very least with the ragdoll bodies of characters this should apply to. Think along the lines of CryOfFear, the earlier seasons of Hannibal, even pathologic would fit in this if you look at it in the right way (I'll just be tagging a shit load of characters I've slathered this on)

This shit would still apply to characters that weren't okie dokie to begin with. Look me in my eyes and tell me lord protector Corvo Attano was an entirely stable man before the events of dishonored 1. I'm sorry, prison and torture or not, normal people don't jump to inter dimensional sugar babying and eating rats that quickly

Usually this trope doesn't even have to be angst-y, I have seen more than 6 people refer to Corvo as "rat dilf" and I find that fucking hilarious
