what are your thoughts on eiko?
Probably the most interesting thing to come out of New 52 Catwoman. I think Eiko has a lot of potential but NEEDS to stop trying to be Catwoman. Catwoman should always be Selina only and tbh It honestly feels like Eiko exists so dc has more characters to “celebrate” during pride month (despite constantly snubbing Selina) and aaapi month (while ignoring Selina being the child of a Cuban immigrant) :/
I think Eiko should work with Selina in the East End as part of her regular supporting cast.

This is the Part II of life and career of Ruth Asawa.
Asawa and her husband and life-long partner, Albert Lanier, had six children. A close friend and photographer, Imogen Cunningham, often captured Asawa working alongside her children in her home. One of Asawa’s daughters, Aiko said, “We always saw her making art, it was part of her everyday existence. I never thought of her making art as a separate activity. To us, she wasn’t working. We didn’t have to be quiet so she could concentrate. Her artmaking space was always in our house…”
Asawa was a strong advocate for social change and devoted much of her time and energy toward art education in her community in San Francisco. Asawa and her friend, Sally Woodbridge, founded The Alvarado School Arts Workshop, an innovative art program that involved parents and professional artists in public schools.
Asawa’s vision was strongly influenced by her own experience at the Black Mountain College, and she believed that it was important for young students to work directly with professional artists. Asawa served on the California Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, and become a trustee of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. In 1982, she was instrumental in founding a public arts high school, which was renamed the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts in her honor in 2010.
“Learn something. Apply it. Pass it on so it is not forgotten.”- Ruth Asawa. (Summarized from Ruth Asawa’s website.)
Asawa used metal wires to weave her own stories into her art, and she did so with great curiosity throughout her entire life. Her wire sculptures are intricate and strong, complex and simple, all at the same time. Awasa wove her art intimately into a life rich with family and community, and her life in turn was intertwined with her art—they were inseparable.

Hey Hey Hey! Remember all those posts about Stop AAPI Hate? Are you still interested in providing aid to Asian-American communities?
The Midwest Buddhist Temple (of Chicago) could use some love- they've been hit hard by the pandemic as a significant part of their overhead fees are covered by their summer festivals. The Midwest Buddhist Temple of Chicago has long been a home for Japanese Chicagoans to keep in touch with their roots.
I know I often feel odd about donating to religious organizations but:
1. most of their charitable work goes towards people not of the faith [they're paired up with several homeless shelters/outreach programs]
2. they're home to several old-school Chicago-Japanese cultural groups and host lots of events
3. they make the best teriyaki chicken (and coleslaw don't @ me) in the whole world

Thanks to sound fiscal management MBT’s long-term financial state remains strong – but missing Ginza for 2 years in a row has put a significant gap in our annual budget. Throughout our Fill the Gap campaign we’ll share information about what it takes to keep MBT going. Take a moment and read the letter from the MBT Board. Twitter fixes bug in Account Activity API that delivered messages and tweets to wrong developers
Tumblr media
Twitter has announced that it has fixed a bug in its Account Activity API that could have delivered users’ data to the wrong registered developer. This API allows registered developers to build tools to better support businesses and their communications with customers on the platform. "If you interacted with an account or business on Twitter that relied on a developer using the AAAPI to provide their services, the bug may have caused some of these interactions to be unintentionally sent to another registered developer. In some cases this may have included certain Direct Messages or protected Tweets, for example a Direct Message with an airline that had authorized an AAAPI developer. Similarly, if your business authorized a developer using the AAAPI to access your account, the bug may have impacted your activity data in error," Twitter said in a blog post. The microblogging platform says that as part of its ongoing investigation, it has already sent an email to all developers who may have been impacted. Twitter also claims that there is only one set of technical circumstances where this issue could have occurred. In a communication to the affected users, Twitter sent a message explaining the timeline of the bug and the action taken to fix it. “On Monday, September 10, we identified a bug that may have sent one or more of your Direct Messages or protected Tweets to Twitter developers who were not authorised to receive them. We resolved it immediately upon discovering it,” the company said. As per the company, the bug has affected less than one percent of people on Twitter and any party that may have received unintended information was a developer registered through the company’s developer programme which prevents abuse and misuse of users’ data. Twitter has 335 million users, according to its latest earnings release. The company says that it is working with its most active enterprise data customers and partners who have access to this API to evaluate if they were impacted. “Through our work so far, and the information made available to us by our partners, we can confirm that the bug did not affect any of the partners or customers with whom we have completed our review. Over the coming days, we will continue our investigations to include a review of our remaining enterprise partners who could have been impacted,” the company said in a blog post. In May this year, Twitter asked its users to change the password of their accounts after it discovered a bug that stored passwords in plain text in an internal system. “We have fixed the bug, and our investigation shows no indication of breach or misuse by anyone,” it announced. from Latest Technology News https://ift.tt/2xGsMfO from Blogger https://ift.tt/2Q2ToiU https://ift.tt/2DENW0s

Twitter bug sent users’ direct messages to external developers
Tumblr media
A bug in how Twitter’s platform is accessed by third-party app developers exposed certain direct messages of select users to developers who do not work for Twitter, the company disclosed in a blog post today.
Twitter says the bug was active starting sometime in May of 2017, and Twitter issued a fix within hours of discovering it on September 10th, 2018. It affected less than 1 percent of users, and the direct messages affected were those between users and accounts or businesses that relied on a certain API designed for customer service interactions. Twitter’s example is a direct message with an airline that uses a developer account to access the affected API, which is known as the Account Activity API (AAAPI).
Twitter says it mostly…

Twitter bug sent user's direct messages to third-party developers
New Post has been published on https://worldhackernews.com/twitter-bug-sent-users-direct-messages-to-third-party-developers/
Twitter bug sent user's direct messages to third-party developers
Micro-blogging site Twitter announced they have patched a bug that affected one of its “Account Activity Application Programming Interface”  (AAAPI) which sent user’s private direct messages to third-party developers who were not authorized to receive them.
The bug ran from May 2017 but was fixed on September 10, 2018, after the company found it.  It is estimated that it has affected less than  1 percent of Twitter’s account holders, it means that more than 3 million people are potentially impacted.
The company has started notifying individuals via an in-app notice and on Twitter.com. “A bug affecting one of our APIs
On Monday, September 10, we identified a bug that may have sent one or more of your Direct Messages or protected Tweets (if your account was protected at the time) to Twitter developers who were not authorized to receive them. The issue has persisted since May 2017, but we resolved it immediately upon discovering it. Our investigation into this issue is ongoing, but presently we have no reason to believe that any data sent to unauthorized developers was misused. Learn more.
We regret the incident and sincerely apologize for the error. No action is required from you. However, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this incident, you can contact Twitter via the privacy policy inquiry page.”
According to the company’s initial investigation report, there is no evidence that any data was improperly misused or exploited anywhere.
However, the investigation is still going on and they will be able to comment on the incidence once they get a final report of investigation. The company has also mentioned that they will review their enterprise partners.
We have no evidence to suggest that any data was improperly misused or exploited anywhere,

Twitter API Flaw Exposed Users Messages to Wrong Developers For Over a Year
Twitter’s API is known for being quite powerful and sound overall, but there are some privacy issues that even this API might not be able to handle! In this situation, a bug in the Twitter API actually showed some of the direct messages and protected tweets to third party app developers that shouldn’t be able to see them. This was outlined by Twitter on their own blog.
What brought this issue?
The bug was in the Account Activity API that developers use to create tools that will make business communication easier. But then again, this is also what caused the potential exposure due to the flaw in the first place. This AAAPI bug was there for more than a year, until Twitter found it and then repaired it within hours. Even so, we don’t know how many people were affected, as the bug was there for around 16 months.
As you can imagine, the bug was mostly caused by the way the AAAPI works in the first place. In case the user interacts with a business or account that uses the AAAPI, then the bug will send some or all the DMs and tweets to the wrong developers.
How many users were affected by this bug?
It’s very hard to pinpoint a certain number related to this issue. What Twitter says is that the affected users are less than 1% of the entire Twitter population. Since the platform has around 336 million monthly users, that still leaves around 3 million people that were affected by this. However, this bug is mostly related to companies and the way they processed things, which on their own seem to be quite the issue to begin with.
Twitter has already tried to fix everything here. They contacted the developers that received unwanted data and it’s working with those developers to ensure that the content is deleted properly. However, Twitter does state that the investigation is ongoing right now and they will release another update or statement when everything is said and done.
Can the affected users do anything?
No, you can’t really do anything. That data is already in the wrong hands, all Twitter can do is to connect with the people that received the unwanted data or make them delete it. That’s definitely a bit strange when compared to other similar situations.
This is similar to what happened during the Cambridge Analytica scandal when Facebook had to talk with developers to delete data. But the results were not great. Hopefully something better will happen in the case of Twitter.
The bug is not as bad as a lot of people make it up to be, so the results that it can deliver will most likely be pretty impressive in the end. One thing is certain, Twitter is set to investigate many of the platform’s tools a lot more than before, as they definitely want to avoid a situation like this from ever happening!

Today, the images of Ruth Asawa’s (1926–2003) beautiful metal hanging sculptures can be found on the United States Postal stamps and her work is gaining international recognition. Yet, little is known about her life and career. Certainly, her career would have been very different if she had completed the student teaching requirement for her teaching degree at the Milwaukee State Teachers College. But she was advised against it because of anti-Japanese sentiment after World War II.  Unable to complete her degree, Asawa left Wisconsin to join Black Mountain College, a progressive art college founded in 1933 in North Carolina. Ultimately, her experience there changed her life and career as an artist. Her teachers at the Black Mountain College included Joseph Albers, Merce Cunningham, and Buckminster Fuller, and she also met her future husband, architect Albert Lanier.
Asawa was born on January 24, 1926 in Norwalk, California to Umakichi and Haru Asawa, Japanese immigrants who worked as truck farmers. In February 1942, a couple of months after the attacks on Pearl Harbor, Asawa’s father was arrested by the FBI and sent to New Mexico. In April of the same year, Asawa, her mother, and five of her siblings were ordered to relocate to the Santa Anita racetrack in Arcadia, CA, and then forcibly moved again to the Rohwer Relocation Center in Arkansas where they stayed until September 1943. She would not see her father again until 1948. In total, Asawa spent eighteen months in internment camps before enrolling at the Milwaukee State Teachers College with a scholarship. (Summarized from Ruth Asawa and website.)
Stay tuned for the Part II of life and career of Ruth Asawa.
