Thoughts on the High Potential season finale which had everything from Criminal Minds and Elsbeth parallels to more Ozester than usual to a whole lotta lore getting dumped
big milestone for Ava
not helping Elliott
Morgan catastrophizing like my mom would
police gala huh and Karadec being as reticent as Kaya was in Elsbeth S1 (hmm parallels)
"Daph" huh
of course Oz caused chaos
shit just got Criminal-Minds-y
hello Adam Kantor hello dude who plays Nick on Grimm
getting a flashback to CSI and Mac's three arc with the missing piece
how many games is this going to be
diabetes, now this reminds me of Criminal Minds even more
cute converse
very Cassandra of her
isn't there an easier way to find him
rescued the guy seven minutes in so where do we go from here
more games, this dude sounds like a Batman villain
and more casual gayness, gotta love it
surprise at the diner (and I'm not talking cute waitress)
cherchez la femme
Morgan, just trust people (though part of me's still on my guard too)
wow, Ava's good at this art shit (like we didn't already know)
that's big of her
Oz seems oddly concerned
surprise phone call
two dates to the gala
round 2 of the game
please tell me this isn't a threat against her babies
so that's the Oz connection
the b-team out in the field and cute, needle drop, real cute
potential suspect
why do I have a feeling this is going to blow up in Morgan's face
go Selena standing up for Morgan
kidnap victim #2
Morgan finds a secret message
so that's the clue in the dolls
I'm getting anxious just thinking about that
cue infodump about the history of jacks
why do I feel like this guy might be trying to play with Morgan specifically as some kind of surrogate
another cute outfit (love that floral jacket)
not surprised HPI runs in the family
more casual boundary-breaking, daddy-daughter hitting the mall
Gio, really not the time
hi again agent dude
looks like the cricket updated his digs
the plot thickens
and now we gotta go save Oz
ooh other girls looking glam (though Soto's off-the-shoulder keeps making me want to adjust it)
Morgan in Elsbeth pink (would have worn a bigger necklace but I love the earrings)
there's the dancing we were promised (but what's "their song", I can't hear it)
Karadec, this guy's a Riddler not a Joker
there's her other date
and Daphne being a nerd has the epiphany
Karadec not letting them ruin their dresses
and day and detective saved
I feel like that quote about grief being love persevering is relevant here
oh hello cute kid
Karadec asking the important question and accepting a non-answer
unsub no longer un
surprise vacation but be realistic kids
and there's Nick
now it's hit close to home
and he's the unsub...ok nvm he isn't
but if the unsub isn't David (who could have been using her as a surrogate for his sister he played games with) why is he specifically targeting Morgan other than just probably having some HPI himself
and another cliffhanger and now I see why this show needed to go on

"Welcome to the Theatre": Diary of a Broadway Baby
Tom Kitt & Friends
May 2, 2025 | 54 Below | Evening | Cabaret | 1H 50M
Okay, you know I just showed up for Kate Baldwin. For me, the beginning and end of this night was just a miserable experience. The third of Kitt's cabarets this week, he showcased music from his recent shows of the last five or so years. Which, alas, includes the flop Almost Famous. After its failure of a Broadway run, the show's been going through more workshops, and in addition to the loud and lyrically uninspired songs that already existed, we also got a brand new number. It's not great.
The middle parts of the night, helmed by Pearl Sun, Elena Shadow, Adam Kantor, and my darling, my dearest, my beloved Kate Baldwin were so much better. While I'm devastated to report that Kate didn't get to do the titular number to Flying Over Sunset, she did get the heartbreaking "How" and the night was worth everything just for that. Helming all the heartbreaking ballads, she also did music from Superhero where she played a widowed single mother. It's exactly what you'd imagine it being. But damn if she didn't sell it.
Verdict: Well...I'm Glad I Saw It

Stasiun pemberhentian semakin dekat.
A short point of view.

NYT: How Chief Justice Roberts Shaped Trump’s Supreme Court Winning Streak
Jodi Kantor and Adam Liptak at NY Times:
Last February, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. sent his eight Supreme Court colleagues a confidential memo that radiated frustration and certainty. Former President Donald J. Trump, seeking to retake the White House, had made a bold, last-ditch appeal to the justices. He wanted them to block his fast-approaching criminal trial on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 election, arguing that he was protected by presidential immunity. Whatever move the court made could have lasting consequences for the next election, the scope of presidential power and the court’s own battered reputation. The chief justice’s Feb. 22 memo, jump-starting the justices’ formal discussion on whether to hear the case, offered a scathing critique of a lower-court decision and a startling preview of how the high court would later rule, according to several people from the court who saw the document.
The chief justice tore into the appellate court opinion greenlighting Mr. Trump’s trial, calling it inadequate and poorly reasoned. On one key point, he complained, the lower court judges “failed to grapple with the most difficult questions altogether.” He wrote not only that the Supreme Court should take the case — which would stall the trial — but also how the justices should decide it. “I think it likely that we will view the separation of powers analysis differently” from the appeals court, he wrote. In other words: grant Mr. Trump greater protection from prosecution.
In a momentous trio of Jan. 6-related cases last term, the court found itself more entangled in presidential politics than at any time since the 2000 election, even as it was contending with its own controversies related to that day. The chief justice responded by deploying his authority to steer rulings that benefited Mr. Trump, according to a New York Times examination that uncovered extensive new information about the court’s decision making.
This account draws on details from the justices’ private memos, documentation of the proceedings and interviews with court insiders, both conservative and liberal, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because deliberations are supposed to be kept secret. The chief justice wrote the majority opinions in all three cases, including an unsigned one in March concluding that the former president could not be barred from election ballots in Colorado.
Another case involved a highly unusual switch. In April, the chief justice assigned Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. to write a majority opinion saying that prosecutors had gone too far in bringing obstruction charges against some Capitol rioters. But in late May, the chief justice took it over.
Who initiated the change, and why, is not clear. The switch came days after The Times reported that an upside-down flag, a symbol of the Stop the Steal movement, had flown outside the Alito home following the Capitol attack. While that timing is suggestive, it is unclear whether the two are linked. (All nine justices declined to respond to written questions from The Times, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said.) During the February discussions of the immunity case, the most consequential of the three, some of the conservative justices wanted to schedule it for the next term. That would have deferred oral arguments until October and almost certainly pushed a decision until after the election. But Chief Justice Roberts provided crucial support for hearing the historic case earlier, siding with the liberals.
Then he froze them out. After he circulated his draft opinion in June, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the senior liberal, signaled a willingness to agree on some points in hopes of moderating the opinion, according to those familiar with the proceedings. Though the chief justice often favors consensus, he did not take the opening. As the court split 6 to 3, conservatives versus liberals, Justice Sotomayor started work on a five-alarm dissent warning of danger to democracy. In his writings on the immunity case, the chief justice seemed confident that his arguments would soar above politics, persuade the public, and stand the test of time. His opinion cited “enduring principles,” quoted Alexander Hamilton’s endorsement of a vigorous presidency, and asserted it would be a mistake to dwell too much on Mr. Trump’s actions. “In a case like this one, focusing on ‘transient results’ may have profound consequences for the separation of powers and for the future of our Republic,” he wrote. “Our perspective must be more farsighted.” But the public response to the decision, announced in July on the final day of the term, was nothing like what his lofty phrases seemed to anticipate.
Both conservatives and liberals saw it as an epic win for Mr. Trump. The former president and his supporters exulted over the decision, which greatly expanded presidential immunity and pushed off any trial until well after the election — if ever. To Democrats, the Republican-appointed justices were brushing away the violent Capitol attack and abandoning the core principle that no one is above the law. The chief justice, who had long said he wanted to keep the court out of politics, had plunged it more deeply in.
Now his opinion is the key document in a legal drama playing out this autumn, as the judge presiding over the long-delayed trial, Tanya S. Chutkan, parses what the court meant and how to move forward. Legal scholars say her job won’t be easy. Despite the chief justice’s reputation as a methodical craftsman, many experts, both conservative and liberal, say he produced a disjointed, tough-to-interpret opinion.
[...]
Roberts’s Unsigned Opinion
Two years earlier, as the other conservative justices overturned Roe v. Wade, the chief justice had been sidelined as he sought a middle ground that would restrict but not eliminate the constitutional right to abortion. In failing to persuade a single colleague to adopt his approach, he appeared to lose control of the court. This term he seemed determined to regain it. In February, the justices heard arguments on a provocative question. The Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment, adopted after the Civil War, contains language barring insurrectionists from holding office. So could Colorado kick Mr. Trump off the ballot in its Republican primary, creating an obstacle for his presidential campaign? From the start of the justices’ private discussions of the case, Trump v. Anderson, it was clear that the court was going to say no, according to several people at the court familiar with the conversations. Allowing states to excise candidates from ballots in a national election was out of the question, the justices agreed. With sparse and cryptic text in the amendment, and little case law, to guide them, they raised various ideas for the court’s ruling and rationale.
The court’s conservative supermajority has prevailed in many of the most consequential cases in recent years. This time, Chief Justice Roberts told his colleagues he wanted the decision to be unanimous and unsigned. In any politically charged case, agreement among the justices made the decision more authoritative. He even said he would consult individually with everyone to discuss what they would accept — a rare step.
While all nine justices agreed that Mr. Trump should remain on state ballots, four of the conservatives were pushing to go beyond that and rule that the Constitution’s prohibition would require congressional action to take effect. Such a decision would provide greater protection for Mr. Trump: To prevent him from taking office if he won re-election, Congress would have to vote to enforce the insurrectionist ban. That left the chief justice in control of the outcome. He lingered over the choice, those familiar with the process said. Ultimately, he sided with the four conservatives in an opinion that he wrote but that was issued unsigned. Justice Amy Coney Barrett and the three liberals wrote concurrences saying the majority had gone too far. Although the judgment was 9 to 0, the justices had not reached true agreement.
[...] The case, Fischer v. United States, posed another sensitive question: Had prosecutors overreached in charging some Jan. 6 rioters under a law originally aimed at white-collar crime? Of the nearly 1,500 people who had been indicted in the Capitol attack as of June, when Fischer was decided, about 250 cases included a charge of obstructing an official proceeding. After oral arguments in April, a majority of the court, including the chief justice, privately concluded that prosecutors had erred. It appeared that the result would narrow, overturn or prevent convictions of some Capitol rioters. It also seemed poised to imperil some of the charges against Mr. Trump, which included obstructing Congress’s certification of the 2020 election. The chief justice assigned the opinion to Justice Alito, according to several court insiders. But a month later, Chief Justice Roberts updated the court: Justice Alito was no longer the author. The chief justice was taking over the opinion.
[...]
Redefining Presidential Immunity
The immunity case, Trump v. United States, would determine whether and how the once and would-be future president could be prosecuted on charges of trying to overturn an election. Just after the chief justice sent his Feb. 22 memo, showing that he was sympathetic to Mr. Trump’s arguments, his position became stronger. Justice Kavanaugh responded the next morning, agreeing with the chief’s logic, according to insiders who knew of the exchange. The three most conservative justices were presumably on board, and with two of the justices at the court’s ideological center in agreement, the direction was clear. At the justices’ private conference meeting that day, Justice Sotomayor protested that she did not see how the court could reverse the appellate decision. It would look like the Supreme Court was being used to delay the trial, she said, according to someone with knowledge of the proceedings.
So she and the other liberal justices focused on the crucial question of timing. Every day that the court waited to hear the case was a benefit to Mr. Trump, diminishing the possibility of a trial before the Nov. 5 election. At the meeting, some of the court’s most conservative members said they did not want to hear the case until the start of the next term in October, according to several court insiders.
The New York Times has an article on how Chief Justice John Roberts paved way for Donald Trump to get a few big wins this term, such as the Trump v. United States and Trump v. Anderson cases.

Hello esteemed mutual. If you are reading this, then that means my propaganda is working. But you might still have questions, so I am here to answer them.
What is The Last Five Years?
It's a musical written by Jason Robert Brown. It's the doomed love story of Cathy and Jamie. It tells the story about their relationship from their first night together, to the moment Jamie files for divorce. Their relationship falls into ruin since both Cathy and Jamie are ambitious, but only Jamie is the one who succeeds. This leads to an imbalance in their relationship.
The story alternates between the perspectives of Cathy and Jamie, as in, the first scene is Cathy's POV, then the next is Jamie's, and then it's Cathy's again, etc., but here's the catch: Cathy tells the story from the ending to the beginning, and Jamie tells the story from the beginning to the ending. They meet in the middle on their wedding day.
"Meet"?
Yes, another great point of this musical is that the actors who play Jamie and Cathy never interact with each other on stage. When they're doing their scenes, they basically act towards the air, and the audience has the infer that they're acting towards the other. Even when the actors are on stage at the same time, their characters are locked in their respective timeline. It leads to a really cool theatrical experience and it drives home the point that Cathy and Jamie are truly caught up in their own perspectives and it's wonderful to see how a full story can be told in a fleshed-out way with only two people.
But there are productions that choose not to do this, which in my humble opinion is an absolutely batshit insane choice to make. Yes, this is why I have things to say about the production that I recently saw.
I prefer movies!
There is a movie version of The Last Five Years, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. It is one of the few movie musicals that stays true to the original music. The thing is... yeah, the actors are constantly in every scene together. The main selling point that I just described above got thrown out of the window. I am a bit more lenient when it comes to the movie version, though, since I also understand that it's a different medium and sometimes things do not translate well in a different medium. Still, I recommend watching a stage version because of this change. And also, justice for Anna Kendrick. She's an amazing singer, so why did they feel the need to add autotune to her stuff?
Okay, stage version it is. Is there a proshot?
Well. There's the 2020 Southwark Playhouse version with Molly Lynch and Oli Higginson. That one was professionally recorded and released to stream for 5 days, but guess who found about it AFTER the rental period was over? ME!
And as far as I am aware, it's no longer available... anywhere. Like, what the FUCK. I am willing to pay money for this. I want to buy (or even rent) this. Live theatre, why are you like this? Folks, we gotta be tootin and bootin for this one.
Who is your favourite cast?
My favourite Cathy is Betsy Wolfe, my favourite Jamie is Jeremy Jordan. But they are from different casts.
I am very fond of the 2013 Off-Broadway production with Adam Kantor and Betsy Wolfe. I also really like the one with Margo Seibert and Zak Resnick. Then there's the audio boot from Cynthia Erivo and Joshua Henry, which is actually the version that completely rebooted my love for this show back when that one came out. I also listened to some audio boots of Samantha Barks and Jonathan Bailey. There was a lockdown version where Nasia Thomas and Nicholas Edwards did the entire show from an apartment. The Last Five Years really worked well for that, since ya know, social distancing already happened when the actors weren't allowed to be in the same space. AND YES, I think Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan were great, despite the movie's limitations. And even though I definitely had, uh, issues with the NANOEK production, I really liked their cast: Jolijn Henneman, Timo Tembuyser and Cody Schuitemaker. Yes, they added a third person. It was a thing.
I still have to watch the original production with Sherie Rene Scott and Norbert Leo Butz, and I know there's one with Katie Rose Clark and Adam Halpin that many like. This show will finally go to Broadway next year with Adrienne Warren and... Nick Jonas.
I know these names probably mean nothing to the people reading this, but all of this is to say that this show is great and I love seeing how every cast brings its own dynamic to it.
... So, is there, like, a trailer?
I'm just going to drop the one from my favourite production here:
youtube
And here's one of the proshot that I CANNOT SEE:
youtube
And you know what, here's the trailer of the movie:
youtube
Do the songs slap?
Yes. Since I don't know anything about music, I copy-pasted this from Wikipedia: "The musical style draws on a number of musical genres, including pop, jazz, classical, Klezmer, Latin, Blues, Rock, and Folk. The orchestration consists of piano, acoustic guitar, fretless bass, two cellos, one doubling on celesta and tubular bell, and violin, doubling cymbal."
Hey, this one DOES have a cello! Two, even.
But yeah, the show is ALMOST completely sung-through and it's a very cohesive sound, which I like a lot given the chronology fuckery. You know how musicals often have a sad reprise of a happy song? Well, this one has happy reprises of sad songs for extra pain and tragedy!
Why is there an entire song about Cathy not being Jewish?
Ah yes, Shiksa Goddess, also known as the "She Is Definitely Not Jewish" song. Fun fact, Jason Robert Brown based the show on his own failed marriage and his ex-wife actually sued him for it. To create more distance between his ex-wife and Cathy, he wrote an entire song to show that Cathy is TOTALLY NOT JEWISH WHAT DO YOU MEAN HOW COULD YOU EVER THINK SHE'S JEWISH?? It replaced another song that apparently hit too close to home. Fun fact, the ex-wife wasn't Jewish either. I honestly have no clue what happened here.
Are there German characters in The Last Five Years?
No, although Jamie's last name Wellerstein has Germanic origins, cause ya know...

Can we cast Jewish actors to play Jewish characters? Do we really want to see Nick Jonas sing Shiksa Goddess or put on a fake Yiddish accent for The Shmuel Song?
(Apparently, there have only been two Jewish Jamies—Adam Kantor in the off-Broadway revival and Jeremy Jordan in the movie)

A while ago I spent 2 hours or so watching a playthrough of the Maruki arc and yeah good game. I started crying when Lavenza confirmed that Akechi's gone. ".... Everything." I KNOW LAVENZA.
So ANYWAY I booted up the game to chill in the Thieves Den and here are the things I am still missing:
(Info from https://www.reddit.com/r/Persona5/comments/g37pay/persona_5_royal_thieves_den_guide/)
Video
Yaldabaoth Arc - Phantom Bonds, His Return, Welcome Back, Journey to Freedom: All are gotten by Achieving the original Persona 5 ending.
Maruki Arc - Neverending Dream: Accept Maruki's Deal in the third Semester
Joker and Violet's Showtime CAUSE I APPARENTLY NEVER SAW IT IN-GAME???
Gallery
5 cut-ins, including from Lavenza and Twin Wardens. Not sure if that's all of Lavenza or the Twins, or if I am missing more characters.
All photos of Maruki's ideal ending.
I am missing the concept art of the 3rd level Personas of Yusuke, Futaba, Haru and Akechi
I am also missing the concept art of the Confidants I did not max out, aka Chihaya, Ohya and Yoshida.
I am also missing concept arts of 3 metaverse denizens: José, the Twin Wardens and Lavenza. I need to beat them for that.
Music
Story - Hoshi To Bukura To: Get the Original Ending of Persona 5
Story - Ideal and the Real -end version-: Accept Maruki's Deal during the third semester.
Palace Maker
Metaverse - Jose's Car: Defeat Jose in the cognitive control room in momentos.
I didn't max out Ohya, Chihaya and Yoshida, so I assume I am missing locations that are relevant to them.
Daily Life - Laundromat: Do some laundry at the laundromat near leblanc.
Daily Life - Bikkuri Boy: Go to the diner in Shibuya.
Daily Life - Fishing Pond: Go to the fishing pond in Ichigaya.
Daily Life - Vending Machines: Buy something from a vending Machine.
Daily Life - Capsule Machines: Use the Capsule Machines in Akihabara.
I only got Arsène and for Velvet Room and Adam Kantor for Enemy. Not sure if this is correct.
I am also confused about the daily life ones, because I have been to all of those locations apart from the diner.

Obrolan kemarin dengan mantan kawan kantor. Sekira dua tahun lalu dia resign, lalu pindah kerja.
Kendalanya satu yaitu anggaran (proyek pemerintah, biasa anggaran mepet). Sekalipun begitu, kekecewaan tetap menyelimuti hatinya. Namanya juga manusia, hal itu wajar.
Kebetulan sedang punya misi menghabiskan buku Take and Give nya Adam Grant.
