Outbreak strikes me a charming cryptid, so I picked the Charming Cryptid deck for her!
The card I pulled is the Snallygaster. Keywords are fear of loss, warning, choices | adaptability, unity, prosperity.
The guide is just about the history of the creature itself, but this made me chuckle: "One article [...] claimed that a man had been abducted by the creature, drained of his blood, and then disposed of [...] until his body was recovered. [...] The Smithsonian Institution put out a reward for the capture of its hide. It even drew the interest of big game hunter President Theodore Roosevelt, who considered postponing a safari to hunt the Snallygaster instead."
Anyway, the card meaning itself. It's the duality of being adaptable to what life throws at you, yet not wanting to have to adapt. Choices can lead to unknowable outcomes, some good and some bad. It'd be nice to know which doors would lead you closer to what you want. Or least which ones to steer clear of. You can handle whatever comes your way, but it'd be nice to not have to handle it, you know?
The card on the right is a bonus card for the mun! It's from the Thera-pets deck.

Finally did that third Signpost Uncommon cycle
#custom cards#custom cards 2#not sure Plunder is the best name for that keyword#but it's fitting enough that it makes for a good placeholder#No One Left Behind would probably be better design wise if it had chainweaving instead of that 2 or more Rebels thing#but it's much more flavorful this way#I also had to Google if Swordwise is even a word#and the only result was the Magic card “Swordwise Centaur”#which is good enough for me#I even remember owning that card#I considered making Swordwise Apostate a 2 mana 3/2 as a reference to that#would've taken away vigilance if I'd done that#but I think I like it better this way#also unsure about Church District Guard because Deathtouch and Vigilance is a rather good combo on such a cheap card#but I think it's fine when the deathtouch costs 3 life#Makeshift Pillory originally had a different flavor text that I deemed unfitting but still wanna use for a future card 'cause I like it#also I considered changing up the set themes altogether and add Energy Counters#but decided against it#it would've been nice for Black/Red both mechanically and flavor wise#but that's about the only good use it would've had#overall the flavor of that is taken care off by Blue/Green's charge counter theme#sadly those two archetypes don't have any color overlaps or I could've done some charge counter stuff in BR#I mean I still could#guess we'll see when I get there

90% of all Yugioh card effects are either "move a card from one zone to another" or "negate an effect" so I made a bunch of combat keywords so that monsters can actually be interesting on the field.
#custom cards#also i managed to make them all different subtypes and get exactly 2 of each attribute so that's cool#anyway i'm barely even exaggerating about the 90% thing#“add a card from deck to hand” “special summon a monster” “destroy a card”#so much stuff is just moving cards between zones#and a lot of the rest is just “negate a card/effect” “effects can't target this” “can't be destroyed by effects”#just moving cards around or preventing cards from being moved around#how about actually caring about the battle phase?#yugioh's combat mechanics are really different than magic's so directly translating stuff like menace or haste doesn't work#but the difference also means there's so much opportunity for different abilities like Tricky or Stealthy or Guardian!#some translate fairly well like Vigilance into Resilient and Double Strike into Double Attack#and some are practically 1-to-1 like Deathtouch to Venomous and Trample to Piercing#Assist was an awkward one#the concept is so clear and simple and cool: it lets your monsters team up to attack together!#but mtg's Banding shows how that simple concept can be very difficult to translate into clean rules#even its spiritual successor Enlist had to specify “nonattacking creature without summoning sickness”#which i think is one of the only times that the term “summoning sickness” has appeared on modern cards#yeah i just checked and the only other cards that mention summoning sickness are stuff that involve creature-lands#i went back and forth on how exactly to word it before i decided to go the shortest and cleanest route of “spend this monster's attack”#which is also the most confusing wording if anything remotely unusual happens#heck it's not even clear whether it works while in defense position!#the idea is the same as Enlist: you can only use it if the monster COULD attack#so anything that prevents it from attacking also prevents it from assisting#but honestly if i were in charge i wouldn't even print this keyword because its wording is either too long or too confusing#also the Wrath effect appears on a few existing cards like Flame Wingman and i like it#Piercing also already exists in a kind of pseudo-keyword state#“if this monster attacks a defense position monster inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent”#ka asks
