sorry to say this but y’all are going to have to accept that AI, including gen AI, is going to be integrated progressively into creative digital workflows. it’s not a maybe—it will. the knee-jerk fear reaction to any mention of AI is reactionary and juvenile. you either have to accept this or forever be pissed off at anyone who creates in a digital medium, becaue functions like photoshop’s generative fill or premiere’s enhance audio or algorithmic noise suppression will become and are actively becoming mundane aspects of digital workflows.
there are two important things to keep in mind: first, that companies like adobe are cashing in on the AI buzz and so will label as many minor functions of their apps “AI” as possible; second, everyone wants to use the best and most efficient tools available to them. together this means that as all kinds of AI advance, artists will use it. they will use it to recolor sections of paintings, or generative fill a section of the background after moving where a hand or head was that was blocking it, or balance and clean up audio in video editing. it’s fine if you don’t want to use it, but panicking about anyone who gets even slightly adjacent to AI tools will soon have you alienating the professional artists you claim to be defending.

Retconned Wardi firearms- a basic handgun, a highly decorative ceremonial handgun (belonging to Faiza), and a lance-gun.
Gun tech has officially been nerfed down to hand cannons (press F) (this has been a long time coming but I'd been fallacy of sunk costs-ing myself out of retconning).
Handguns are held similarly to a shotgun, with the butt pressed into the user's shoulder, one hand gripping under the barrel, and the other free to ignite the gunpowder. These represent the most advanced firearms in contemporary usage, both in make and in their use of uniform iron projectiles built to match the gun's bore for greater range and efficiency. Lance-guns are the more basal form, usually larger and mounted with the pole held over the shoulder, and are most effectively used by two people (one to hold and aim, one to light the gunpowder).
The spread of firearms is currently mostly limited to the Eastern Inner Seaway peoples (with some additional distribution via overland trade), and actual manufacture of hand cannons and gunpowder at Significant scale is limited to the region's core powers.
The reason for this limited spread is partially due to specific elements of the technology's history. Gunpowder was first synthesized by Burri alchemists and considered to be the discovery of the legendary divine weapon + solar fire of the deity Inanariya, and its formula (along with techniques for ideally refining its components) remained a closely guarded state secret. It was used predominantly in priestly contexts to generate flame and explosive sounds (in conjunction with earlier practices of generating multicolored flames with use of other chemicals), then integrated into combustible weaponry in the forms of fire lances, which would eventually develop into early handcannons.
The treatment of gunpowder as a guarded sacred or semi-sacred substance continued with Wardi adoption, where knowledge of its making is considered a closed rite. It's name (inya tsatsul or just tsatsul, a derived adoption of the Burri iñazatsūya) still reflects a divine solar association (the Burri word means 'sun's thunder', the Wardi 'inya' invokes the sun, 'tsatsul' is an adapted loanword and has no meaning independent of the substance itself), though its priestly use is now predominantly associated with the firearm'ed Odonii (rather than priests of the solar Face Inyamache). The composition of gunpowder can no longer be regarded as a Secret by any means, though efforts to obscure the methods of its creation are still moderately successful and has kept knowledge of gunpowder manufacture more limited than the total sphere of firearm usage itself.
The actual strongest limiting factor of firearm usage is the rarity of natural saltpeter deposits necessary for making gunpowder. The practice of actively producing saltpeter via nitraries has not been developed anywhere in the setting, and all is instead obtained via natural sources. These sources are rare and limited within the current spread of firearm technology, and result in gunpowder being a limited and expensive substance to produce. The weapons themselves are also very expensive to manufacture (a good quality steel SWORD is far too material-cost prohibitive for most people to own), particularly high quality firearms designed for use with standardized ammunition.
These guns are also very basal, and logistical difficulties in their use (weight, very slow loading and firing speed, high visibility, Relatively low reach and accuracy) along with the restrictive cost of production has kept firearms far from rendering conventional weaponry, armor, and projectiles obsolete (even within the societies that have access to them). They are still, however, very devastating in use within their contemporary context, particularly in that high quality guns have a longer range than the best arrow-based projectiles, and utterly negate most contemporary forms of armor at close range.
#I'd consider the setting to be like.....most closely analogous to like 3rd-1st century BCE earth (in terms of the average scale of#societies + Most of its technology (aside from major exceptions like this) + trade interconnectivity)#There are VERY few Very Big states capable of mass-manufacturing and resource extraction (like nothing the size of#the Roman empire has Ever existed in this setting. The biggest empires aren't even close. Cynozepal has a pretty massive territorial#span so is probably the closest thing but its actual control is highly fragmented along disconnected central hubs)#There's significant seaway trade connections but the Vast majority of transmission of goods is localized (even moreso over land)#So point being firearms have developed '''''earlier''''''' than in IRL history but the conditions that enabled very rapid spread are#not really present (though it's fairly inevitable that they'll become widespread over the next few centuries)#Also the likely trajectory of adaptation is going to be the development of Plate armor (which could absorb/block shots#from some types of firearms More advanced than these).#The types of armor used in this particular region is mostly lamellar/scale/padded fabric/leather and rarely involves#full body protection (using a shield to compensate) so developing thicker and fully protective armor would be the next logical#step in the arms race#I think it would be a fun constructed history for armor technology to outpace these simple firearms enough that they end up largely#abandoned in favor of re-specializing in close combat but I don't really care to plan out the far future that much

ok so i was thinking...
episode 8 starts with luke saying "look, you didn't ask to be a half-blood" to percy, which is the same opening line of the whole series. but this way, chronologically, LUKE said it first. percy is narrating this story, which we can presume already happened, and luke's words stayed with him, and they were significant enough that percy started narrating his life story with those exact words.

If you dig platonic relationships, Starkid's new production, Cinderella's Castle might hit the spot. The Frog Knight adores Ella because of her kindness and Taddeus sees her as an ally for better governance, but the closest thing to romance is between Putrice and the prince. (Heads up: they looked at the toe-chopping version of the folktale and decided it wasn't violent enough.)

i wish so badly that katie brightman had a bigger role in nfb. she’s so interesting and such a good foil to alan and just feels like a natural part of the different factions we see in the game. like we have megan and jeremy for the nnn, julia and peter for advance, and then we have alan for disrupt just kinda. by himself for the most part. and of course the nature of a game like nfb is you don’t see much of different character arcs outside of the glimpses you get through the news, but still. you can get a headline about katie going missing and knowing that she’s a prominent figure in the nation, so much so that in some endings she’s elected prime minister….idk there’s just so much there and i wish we got more of her. i believe that what she says about her background in that disrupt tape is true despite her obviously reading from something or being told what to say, and the fact that you don’t fully know how much she believes in what she says about advance being ‘backwards’ and that ‘the only hope’ is disrupt. she must still believe in advance to some degree to end up leading the party in some endings but man. she’s so interesting i wish we knew more about her
also her relationship with alan. lockdown isn’t canon but STILL there’s potential there. it is my personal headcanon that disrupt were fully going to execute katie but alan at the last moment spared her and let her go. and he’s never been quite sure why he decided to do that.

why can you use transference on necramechs... they predated warframes but they're not warframe replacements
waddahell
is it because they have "sentient pulse disablers" which probably are void related (since otherwise sentients would have easily adapted to something technological)
honestly if i start thinking about necramechs my brain is gonna break

thinking about Tron program bodies again, blood is not enough for me, where are the wires and fans and plates of metal that bend and snap
I have this vague image of an anatomical diagram of a program
Energy Circulatory System - the Blood, also the digestive track bc they don't have food, Mouth to throat tube to processor located center, near the disk port, it processes and then pumps the energy through the lightlines of the body, if a program overclocks themselves enough, they can suffer burnt or even ruptured circuitry
Energy both fuels the program and cools them off, when cooling processes are activated, the energy will be cooled off by nearby venting processes and will then be circulated throughout the body
Venting System - Similar looking to lungs, two fans that sit within the upper chest, one on each side, subtle ducts can open along the sides of a program to release extra heat (they sorta look like gills, ticklish), Most of the cooling is done through this system, Vents work to expell air through the nose, mouth, and additional vents and ducts, some programs have extra vents for their functions (Mechanic need more bc they work in hotter environments)
The Disc Port - connected directly to the morherboard of the program, this is why if programs are hit there, they will derezz, sorta like a brain (head wounds are not fatal), all processors are connected via wires to the board
Processors - part of the motherboard, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, all the senses are split up into different processing units, These usually have a mechanical unit, like eyeballs, that connect to the board with long thin wires, essentially the nervous system, but centered around the disc not the head
Internal Systems - internal sensors and diagnostics that regulate the body, the Endocrine System, Connected to a programs personal display, will update with warnings and display whatever parameters needed about the body
"Bones" - programs don't have bones, but they do have metal tubes that house their more delicate pieces (wires), Some programs (security) have more reinforcement around vulnerable areas, like the throat and chest, with the plating sometimes even being above the skin, Additonal plating can be added to the forearms and calves without much modification, further integrated armor is an arduous process
Derezzing is still a thing, parts of a program will maintain integrity to a point, then they collapse into voxels, Not all pieces will derezz, if that threshold isn't met, the pieces will remain in their form, basically, if you want to fully derezz a program you have to grind them into voxels, otherwise the bones and other stuff are unlikely to derezz until the energy runs completely out (usually a few days, or the Grid equivalent), where they will then turn into a pile of voxels
Voxels and Energy both evaporate, losing their vivid technicolor hues, until they turn a dark soot grey, at this point they disappear leaving a thin dusty film behind, it's hard to clean and slippery

sorry ive got more spideryapping to do i gotta get it out of my system
#ive been pondering. if theyll do daily bugle photo stuff in spiderman 4#cuz like. when the comics first came out it made sense that nobody would be able to get pics but him#snd ofc those pictures would be valuable#but bruh NOW???? pictures of spiderman have to be a dime a dozen right. how does that work#like w tobey maguire it still makes sense cuz phones dont have advanced cameras. and they set up his photography interest#and w andrew garfield its still Kinda plausible but not a big plot point. and they set up photography w him too#but i dont recall mcu spiderman EVER touching a camera#like he could suddenly learn to do it cuz that thats happened in adaptations before but like. i dont think it makes sense for the setting#or character. but especially the setting#also. theres always the wholr conflict of him having to work for someone thats constantly slandering him#but surely j cubed is way too linked to aunt may dying i feel like its too far this time 😭😭😭#like idk. how else could he pay rent man presumably has no documents 😭 plus the classic sudden disappearances and flaking#like theres a reason hes always selling photos even still but i feel like it doesnt make sense now so wtf are they gonna do#if he magically just does still have a bank account and birth certificate and social security number ill be pissed#cuz why would his face be erased from a class photo but not a passport picture. how#ive thought abt this way too much they better not let any magic spell plot holes get thru cuz i WILL catch them#im watching u guys dont pmo i need to know the exact limitations and extent of that spell. i see a plot hole im gonna be mad#altho he was getting ged. what kind of documents do u need for that. did he forge them or did they survive#im just really focused on the bureaucratic details here those writers better know im gonna be paying ATTENTION#and for sure everyone else cares abt that as much as i do. u guys will tank at the box office if its not ironclad im tellin u#x

Sorry for being annoying over Anne x Jane but if you ever would have the chance to adapt this ship how would you do it?
by ‘adapt’, do you mean for a dramatisation? because i strictly believe that we need to put a moratorium on tudor related media (excluding henry vii and maaaaybe mary i since they’re underrepresented as is, and it would annoy the right people). so i don’t want an adaptation, frankly.
as for an ideal adaptation… well, i liked the idea of anne and jane’s dynamic in wolf hall — but not anne’s characterisation. it was so belligerent in stripping her of warmth and humanity, and this collective amnesia about criticisms of mantel’s handling of women (and gender) now that she’s dead is really something. personally, i’m fine with violently and bodily shoving her from her pedestal. on a similar strain, channel 5’s anne boleyn tried to give us a similar dynamic — of anne being unsettled by jane, whilst simultaneously looking down at her, and (again) i like the idea of anne being curious about jane, and the dynamic of gender/femininity being played with, with the two being seemingly polar opposites in ideological opposition, but nothing was delivered on that front. for as much as lola talked about jane being ‘machiavellian’... literally nothing was shown really exploring that. the kiss felt like everything else in that show: hollow, trying to be reactionary. you can’t try to explore that dynamic and simultaneously refuse jane any characterisation beyond the periphery of anne’s perspective; it’s imbalanced. also, i don’t like how these adaptations take every opportunity to make anne abusive to others — she is always depicted as putting her hands on jane (as well as striking others) and anne boleyn (channel 5) has her sexually harassing jane. i am not opposed to depicting anne as violent or abusive (there’s arguably evidence for it) but it seems notably one-sided: jane dormer’s account implies jane gave as good as she got (“scratching and bye blows between the queen and her maid”), and jane was clearly willing to undermine and displace her mistress which contradicts the idea of jane as passive/complacently honourable.
arguably the tudors s2 threads the needle the best? anne is irascible and clearly agitated and unsettled by jane, who is shown to be actively involved in her faction, and evidently lacks respect for anne. it just doesn’t take it far enough on characterising jane/giving her a clear motivation, and walks all of it back by s3, anyway.
