Why I hate Reed 

Fantastic Four has a long history of disaster after disaster. Most of the disasters in question were caused by Reed. Bet you didn’t expect me to jump right into it. 

Okay, fine, let’s do an introduction first.

Fantastic Four has been a Reed-centric story since the day he broke ground on Marvel-1 (known at the time as just a rocket) and took his bff, girlfriend, and her tag-along brother on a ride, to the day his arch-enemy took over the world (that was last week). It’s all about Reed and everyone else just happened to get stuck with him. 

I hate Reed. Maybe not as much as Doom does, but it’s close. 

I have my reasons.

If you know Reed well, chances are, you also hate him. If you don’t know him, you’re lucky. If you don’t hate him… keep reading. 

Reed has always been always the intended protagonist of the Fantastic Four. They might have called it a family book but really, you tuned in every month to find out who is bugging Reed and whether he manages to fix everything this time. That’s who he is, he fixes everything. Mostly through the power of science, occasionally by stretching in the most ridiculous way. 

Reed is recognized by CB writers as a hero, not just a hero in a cape and mask sense (he doesn’t even wear those) but the cool-headed, smart guy, the focal point of the team and the narrative. You are supposed to see yourself in him and imitate his approach. 

Everybody cares about him, everybody talks about him, and in those rare moments when he’s presumed dead, everybody mourns him. 

But Reed just isn’t a good person. There are things about him that don’t just fail to align with heroism, they’re plain vile.

He’s a liar

Reed is a liar. It’s not just that he omits relevant details like, say, forgetting to inform the whole team that they are slowly dying, or warning them that he’s keeping a dangerous gate in the basement. This is absolutely a pattern with Reed and instead of getting mad at him, people just accept it as a part of his character. Even if they do get pissed off, they eventually forgive him. Then all of that repeats. To be fair, I probably should be more mad at the dysfunctional family that enables his behavior. 

But it’s still him. The logical path he loves so much to take inevitably leads him to the conclusion that it’s time for yet another lie. He’s not above covering one lie with another, and it comes off almost childish (not in the adorable sense). What I mean is, he is afraid of being judged because he knows what he’s doing is wrong but he simultaneously believes that he is right because he knows better. Again, this comes down to him claiming to be the smartest man on Earth. Which is ridiculous. The smartest man in physics is still the stupidest when it comes to art or magic. And he admits both things himself yet refuses to accept the fact that he knows almost nothing. 

Besides, both his daughter and Lunella are easily smarter than he is. 

He’s a hypocrite 

Reed is a terrible hypocrite. We don’t talk about that often, because the stories that allow you to notice that lie far apart. During the Civil War, he was all happy to serve the government. It is a big part of his life, he’s always been ‘public’ and ‘legitimate’. In the eyes of the law anyway. So when the question of whether or not to register appeared, he made a call for everyone. Happily so, and he went along with punishing everyone who opposed it. Except for his family, of course. It smells awfully similar to the way dictators operate so I guess we should be thankful Reed doesn’t have those ambitions. 

But when the tables turn and Reed has to answer for all he’s done, he believes that he is judged harshly. Of course, it turns out to be a villain’s plot but he never really stops to think how his actions were questionable at best. And he isn’t prepared to take responsibility the same way he expected others to. He thinks it’s unfair. 

He’s a garbage person 

Essentially, the problem is Reed not knowing when to stop. Reed is stubborn, we already know that. He is convinced that he knows what is best for everyone. He believes that his view of the world and how things should be is the correct one. The mathematically correct one, I mean, he did write all those equations on all those walls. This is what eventually led to the Civil War, and this is what eventually led to the Secret Wars. The two most notable events on 616. Reed’s math allegedly allowed him to predict the future, and in that future, he saw Doom. JK but he did see that superheroes will destroy the world if they keep on unchecked. And he did see the possibility of incursions. So he built 42 and threw his friends there. He experimented on Speedball to the point of torture because the government said it was ok. He got together with the Illuminati pre-Secret Wars convinced that they could definitely stop the incursions and they failed. They would’ve gotten everyone killed and, big shocker, the only ones he ended up saving were himself and his family (although Justice finally said “Hell no!’ and his family perished.)

But Reed sure knew what was right.

With that same attitude of knowing what’s best, he stomps around Latveria, trying to liberate it. He returns there every time and every time acts surprised when he discovers that Latverian people don’t want his liberty. They don’t want him, they like Doom. 

I feel like deep down Reed believes that his unique intellect allows him to see things more clearly than any of us mortals. And because of that, everyone should sleep well, putting their trust in him. Whether he invents another doomsday device (and promises not to use it), keeps Ultimate Nullifier in his nightstand, or stores a gate to anywhere in his basement. Everyone is supposed to trust him until turns out that his 3-year-old accidentally opened it. That’s happened a few times and if anything, we should know by now that Reed is anything but trustworthy. 

He never stops to think “Should I?” Because the answer is pretty much always “No.”

He’s an awful husband 

Back in the day, Sue often ended up on the other side of Reed’s outbursts. His smug attitude toward her was always uncomfortable, to say the least. He diminished her and everything she did because he deemed it irrelevant. It barely changed until the writers elevated her almost to his level by making her a doctor of Archaeology. While I appreciate them giving her some interests other than making sandwiches for everyone who resides in the BB, does it mean that they agree with Reed? That everything she did, whether she wanted to be an actress, ran their company, charities, or simply stayed at home with the kids, is not good enough? It makes sense in terms of their shared interests, but the only thing it gives me is doubts about him even loving Sue. Unfortunately, it seems like he sees her as a trophy wife he never could’ve gotten. When he talks about Sue, he often says that he studied her, like she’s an object that fascinates him. This kind of explains why he can’t relate to her, refuses to trust her, and doesn’t always care how his actions would affect her. 

When Sue was Malice, everything she told him was pretty genuine. There is a trope where heroes say the worst things under the influence, yet these things are rooted in reality. And that’s what happened here. 

There was another piece of truth Reed got when Johnny had a fight with Sue (about keeping from him the fact that the whole team’s powers were deteriorating, and their bodies too), he told her “You’re treating me like he treats you!” Reed didn’t react and that was never addressed again. Too bad, we all know that’s true. Reed has no respect for Sue. Even Reed knows that, I just don’t think he gets it. 

Let’s not forget that Sue served him divorce papers. What a time that was.

He’s a terrible father 

He starts out as an oblivious parent who doesn’t really care. As long as the kid can’t speak it’s not his problem, right? Hence multiple babysitters and Franklin spending half of his childhood with Agatha,  in Attilan, and at Alicia’s place. Franklin is a creator, not a scientific one either and that’s something Reed can’t understand. That’s why he’s been having a hard time even connecting to his son. Okay, he might not be the easiest kid to connect to but with the constant neglect he’s experienced, no wonder he feels like a disappointment to everyone. 

Val has a good father, Doom. He’s actually more of a parent to her than Reed, even if she’s the child Reed actually likes. Unless that’s just him being possessive. Just like with Sue (whenever she had her Namor eras) Reed is jealous of Val’s bond with Doom and as soon as he feels like he’s losing her, he gets mildly irritated. That’s exactly it, he’s not even properly furious – he just gets upset and focuses on work. 

Even all the family adventures they went on, or that time after Secret Wars when Reed decided that Ben and Johnny should believe their family is dead (including the kids), couldn’t make up for that. After all, Reed probably spent more time in his mobile lab than with kids. And when he got bored he happily ditched everyone except Frank and Val. So much for calling them all “their kids”. They are better off anyway because Reed doesn’t consider their feelings. At least he treats them like adults, since he doesn’t consider them either. 

He’s unkind and a trash friend

There is no genuine kindness in Reed. It’s almost like he pretends to be a loving husband, parent, and friend. 

Reed has no respect for his family or friends. If he had, he would’ve considered them whenever he made a decision. Again, it comes back to him believing he can’t make a mistake (check how long he’d been agonizing over the first space mission). Yet the vast majority of Reed’s actions vary from mean to straight-up creepy. 

Even the seemingly selfless gesture of turning his team into celebrities was his pathetic plea out of guilt. He never asked any of them whether they even wanted to be famous or heroes. He felt guilty (that’s something, I guess) for turning Ben into The Thing, and complicating things for Sue and Johnny (although, they probably would’ve been fine). 

But that’s a pattern that follows Reed everywhere and everybody ends up getting hurt.

Despite claiming to love his wife and kids, care about his friend, and tolerate Johnny, he is unkind to them. He views and moves them as pawns to where he wants them to be, all the while faking the perfect family man and good friend facade. And that’s the new Reed, the old one barely pretended. 

Let’s face it, Reed and Ben don’t have much in common except the collective trauma of getting powers and fighting Doom. The funny part is, Reed wants to be friends with Doom but Doom sees through his BS (okay, I might be giving props to the dictator here but ain’t he right?)

He’s way too full of himself

The self-proclaimed smartest man on Earth, Reed lives in the world of science. He is obsessed with math and he believes that math will solve everything. Spoiler: it won’t. He knows that, too. When Doom kidnaps his family and locks baby Franklin in Hell, Reed wastes so much time arguing with Strange over his aptitude for magic, that the kid ends up traumatized. For a while Franklin couldn’t tell the difference between Hell and Reality, all because his father couldn’t accept that he doesn’t know everything. 

This is absolutely a pattern with Reed — he doesn’t believe in ghosts, vampires, probably even werewolves. Meanwhile, he knows actual gods and had a witch for a nanny. If anything, this is a sign of stubbornness and that’s one of the worst barriers for wisdom. So good at math he might be, a genius — I don’t think so. That’s not all there is to it, because there are absolutely people smarter than Reed with a more flexible mind. I have to give points to him for recognizing that eventually and forming Future Foundation but he still has ways to go. So far, math has been a source of trouble more often than not. His inventions and his equations that predict the end of everything force him to take the most ridiculous approach in trying to solve problems before they arrive. And if that’s how we see Reed, imagine how irritating it is to Doom. 

And while we’re at it, they might have changed the origin so that Reed’s original calculations weren’t incorrect but that was wrong. The poetic justice of math, the only thing he truly trusted, betraying him, that was beautiful. If only Reed could understand art. 

He’s dull 

Let’s face it, they can rewrite Reed’s history, they can try to make him fun, they can even hire a really good actor to play him, but Reed is incredibly dull. He’s boring and even his family doesn’t pretend he isn’t. He is not charming, has zero charisma, not funny, and really he’s extremely lucky he managed to get Sue to marry him (because with his other bad qualities and lack of charm idk what that was, unfortunate chemistry?) He’s even more lucky Ben was out of other options friend-wise, and Johnny was just around. Otherwise, Reed would’ve died alone which is frankly, what he very much deserves. 

That’s not even half of his misdeeds, just the ones that were on the top of my mind. But trust me, if you spend almost a year reading about this guy, you will likely hate him just as much.

Was the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black actually any special, and were they seen as some kind of royalty to outsiders?

Because in every (or most) fanfic I’ve read with them, they are always depicted as being way above anyone and everyone else, even their own partners. The only ones good for them, or the only ones who understand them, are the ones with black blood running through their veins. As if they are some sort of gods that no one, but others with their blood, can touch. And everyone loves (and/or hates) them and wants to be a part of their family because they are so powerful and attractive, but watch out because they are prone to being crazy.

Which is actually another thing I wanted to point out and ask:

Did the Black family actually have some kind of curse of madness?

Now, like many, I'm not immune to being completely fascinated by the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black, so I was pretty stoked about this ask.

For the first part, are the Blacks actually as important as they make themselves (or fandom makes them to be)?

The short answer is not really, but they are important.

Now, the long answer:

I mentioned here how I believe the Wizengamot functions like a council of lords (which is what the Witengamot is named after in our real world), as such, families like the Blacks, the Longbottoms, and even the Potters likely do have a "noble title" (for lack of a better term) that allows them a seat there.

That being said, I don't think the Blacks are above any of the other families there, not really, but they think they are. The Blacks are an old wizarding family, they can probably trace their family tree back to the founders' era and perhaps even before, and it's important to them. They take pride in this legacy of one of the oldest pure-blood families in Britain. The Malfoys, for example, are probably richer than the modern Blacks, but they don't have the Wizengamot title and they came from France, they're not British Pure-Bloods, not originally, and I think the Blacks as a whole would look down on that. But other Wizengamot families that have just as much British history should be their equals then, and they are unless you ask a Black. They are a very proud family, and they might think they're above everyone, but they're the only ones thinking it.

I also personally headcanon that they have more houses aside from Grimmauld Place as well. I mean, back in the Regency and Victorian era it was common for richer aristocrats to have a manor away from London and then a townhouse/manor in London for the social season. So, I kinda assumed that's what Grimmauld Place initially was. So it isn't the family manor the way Malfoy Manor is and there is a Black Manor somewhere in the countryside.

For the second question:

No, I don't think the Black Madness is real.

Let's define "madness". Since it isn't really a medical term, I'd go with the dictionary on this one:

So, we'll treat it as repeated foolish, frenzied, or uncontrolled behavior that cannot be explained by other factors.

We don't meet many Blacks, and most of the ones we do are far from mad (I'll get to Bellatrix and Walburga).

Both Narcissa and Andromeda are completely sound of mind. Sure, they might have made mistakes, or rash decisions on occasion, but that's being human. They both care deeply for their families and act in their best interest. And they are intelligent, logical, controlled, and consistent in their behavior. So, two Black sisters are not insane.

What about the Black brothers, Sirius and Regulus?

Well, neither of them ever read as mad to me. Regulus was obsessed with Voldemort until he realized what he got himself into and his actions weren't ones of a madman, a desperate one, maybe, but not mad. He was smart enough to figure out about Voldmort's Horcruxes and smart enough to do something about it without Voldemort knowing.

Sirius isn't at the best of mental state when we see him considering it's after 12 years in hell on earth. But he is logical, sane, and sound, especially during Goblet of Fire in which he uncovers the plot with Barty Crouch Jr perfectly, just getting the wrong Death Eater. He comes to correct conclusions about people and is clearly intelligent:

“I don’t know,” said Sirius slowly, “I just don’t know . . . Karkaroff doesn’t strike me as the type who’d go back to Voldemort unless he knew Voldemort was powerful enough to protect him. But whoever put your name in that goblet did it for a reason, and I can’t help thinking the tournament would be a very good way to attack you and make it look like an accident.”

Yes, his mental state deteroits in OOTP when he's back at Grimmuald Place, but that's Sirius dealing with his grief, trauma, his sense of helplessness, and complicated feelings about his family. He never was mad, even then, just in a really shitty situation.

And yes, he was cruel as a teenager, but as I keep saying later in the post, cruelty does not equal madness.

So, what about Bellatrix, the fandom's poster child for the Black Madness?

I don't think she's insane either, well, at least she wasn't until Azkaban. In her trial, she is quiet throughout the proceedings, looking board, even, until the verdict is given:

The dementors were gliding back into the room. The boys’ three companions rose quietly from their seats; the woman with the heavy-lidded eyes looked up at Crouch and called, “The Dark Lord will rise again, Crouch! Throw us into Azkaban; we will wait! He will rise again and will come for us, he will reward us beyond any of his other supporters! We alone were faithful! We alone tried to find him!”

(GoF, 595-596)

She is fanatical, sure, but there's no baby talk like we see in OOTP, she is cold and clearly understands the situation, she isn't in a frenzy but in control. She just knows about at least one Horcrux so she truly believes what she is saying and from her point of view, it makes sense she believes that. I won't say she is right to torture and murder Voldemort, no, she is cruel and sadistic, always was. But you can be cruel and sadistic without being mad.

The baby voice she was useing when talking to Harry in OOTP was a taunt as well, not how she usually speaks:

“Never used an Unforgivable Curse before, have you, boy?” she yelled. She had abandoned her baby voice now.

(OotP, 810)

The moment he cast an unforgivable and she started treating him seriously she dropped the baby voice.

She is cruel and fanatical, but not insane. She rightfully suspects Snape throughout HBP and DH, she is aware of her surroundings enough to see Snape's loyalty is odd when many others don't. She is intelligent and logical. She can keep herself in check when she wants to, she's, just, obsessive, and willfully blind to anything to do with Voldemort because she practically worships him.

But, she isn't mad in the sense the Black Madness seems to imply. Also, I think how we see her, post-Azkaban is worse than how she was before. I think we met a less stable, crueler version of Bellatrix, not that she wasn't cruel before, but she was more stable I think. I mean, she did spend about 14 years in Azkaban, and Fudge said Sirius looked too sane to him after a decade in the place. The Wizarding World expects the prisoners in Azkaban to lose it. So, is it really a wonder Bellatrix was affected by her time there?

And what about Walburga who screeched about blood-traitors and mudbloods constantly? Well, I think, like Bellatrix, we're seeing the worst of her.

I mean, Walburga had her portrait painted after:

Her eldest and favored son ran away from home

Her second obedient son joined the Dark Lord and then disappeared. She likely believed he died a painful torturous death of a traitor considering that's what everyone thought.

Her husband died soon after, leaving her alone with Kreacher in a gloomy home that hasn't felt like a home to any of them since the war started brewing in the 1970s. Since Sirius left.

So, I think the version we see of her, is one who was grieving. She was lonely, bitter, and in mourning. And that is the state of mind the portrait captured. I think magical portraits capture the person as they are when they sit down to have the portrait taken, so it captures all of Walburga's pain, and Walburga, proud daughter of the house of Black spits acid instead of letting her pain get to her, instead of allowing herself to feel the guilt that is weighing her down.

Walburga was never been the picture of a good mother, or of stability, but I mentioned here and other times that I don't believe Walburga was physically abusive at any point, but she always had high expectations for her sons, especially Sirius. She probably had control, and she wasn't always as frenzied as we see her, we just see a version of her broken by life, and when she broke, she got so much worse.

So, I don't think there is a curse of Black madness, not really. It's just the Black family had shit luck in the Wizarding Wars, and to a degree, it was their own doing — their pure-blood mania that sent their kids away.

As for other members, well, we know Alphard was sane enough to give Sirius money when he ran away. We know Araminta wanted to legalize muggle-hunting and Elladora started the tradition of hanging house elves' heads on the walls. The thing is, you don't need to be mad to be cruel, you can be perfectly calm, collected, and intelligent and still do unimaginable horrors. In the case of Araminta and Elladora, they don't consider muggles and house elves as human, as equal to them. therefore their pain and suffering aren't cruel in their eyes, it's like killing a deer and mounting its head on the wall, it's an animal, and it's fine. I don't think they were even necessarily cruel towards other wizards, just towards those they considered lesser, who they thought of as animals. They weren't good people, but that doesn't make them mad.

I think there is something to be said about evil not always equaling insanity and that people who'd be medically considered completely sane can do a lot of evil. I think calling every evil character insane or mad cheapens these terms and has always felt to me like a cop-out. Insane is what you call someone you want to Other, to forget that the evil they committed was done by a person, it's a way to wave their behavior away and say: "Well, I can't understand why they did that, they're insane," and this kind of excuse for characters' behavior always left a bad taste in my mouth. Evil can be done by perfectly sane humans, and I think that angle of analysis, is much more interesting because then you force yourself to understand. You force yourself to face the humanity in a character in a way calling them mad won't allow you to. Real evil is hardly ever so simple as "madness" makes it out to be.

(As a side note, I think it's possible quite a few of the Blacks have mental health issues, but that's very different than how terms like madness and insanity are thrown around and portrayed)

I've seen some people criticize how quickly Peter and Steph fell for each other (to the point of being the thing they treasure most), and while I do understand some of the criticism, I think there are a few key things that some people aren't picking up on.

-Treasuring each other IS NOT strictly romantic. While it's true that Peter is in love with Steph, and Steph with Peter, it goes deeper than their repressed love story. They ARE friends. They do genuinely like spending time together, although their connection is relatively new. They care about each other as people first; neither of them seem like they NEED to be in a relationship with the other. They seek each other out even when they're just friends.

-It's also important to remember that the lords in black only want treasured things in the metaphorical sense: they can't give up OBJECTS. It presumably has to be a person or a concept.

-It's important to remember that both of them have been through an unbelieveable ordeal. Peter's closest friends were murdered. Stephanie lost her DAD, and although they weren't close, that can't have been easy to stomach. I cannot stress this enough; Peter and Steph quite literally have no one else left. Peter has no other friends. It logically tracks for him to be attached to Stephanie, as she is someone who experienced the same traumas as him. From Stephanie's angle, she doesn't really like her friends, and since objects are out of the question, Peter is the only person who she feels truly knows her. He's really the only option for her, even if her feelings are confusing.

-I also want to point out that you can really kind of feel them falling for each other, although it is admittedly subtext. Peter is weak to Steph as early as the opening number. He does out of character things to make her happy; a compliment from her makes his day amazing; he faces his biggest fear in hopes of seeing her at Pasqualli's. Stephanie cares for him from the first day they meet, although her care is a lot more ambiguous. She teases him about how he's into her, but at the same time, she's protective of him, feeling horrible that he got beat up and wanting to stop it. Even beyond that, she's inclusive towards him, inviting him to hang out with her simply because she likes his company. Her attraction to him makes sense: we know that Steph has a thing for funny and smart guys, and Peter's geeky snarkiness ABSOLUTELY fits. Their relationship is one that just makes a lot of sense!

-Their relationship is actually portrayed really realistically near the end. They're not intense about their love, nor are they overtly sexual. In NPMD, they don't even kiss! The furthest they go is dancing close together and having conversations, cautiously stepping into a new relationship that they mutually want. Despite the heavy nature of their confessions in As Cool As I Think I Am (Reprise), the payoff is not drastic. The confessions were likely only so heavy because they both thought Peter was about to die. Of course he would go out detailing how he loves her, and of course she would say it back; their last memories together should be good ones. When faced with normalcy, they progress as most teens would.

-At the end of the day, they're two traumatized teenagers who already liked each other before the trauma. It makes sense that they feel like the other is the most important to them; after all, Grace is the only other survivor from their group, and they're thinking about her in a less than favorable way past Richie's death, if not sooner than that.

This is not to say they're perfect, but I think their portrayal was really sweet and a joy to watch. I think the implications are extremely interesting idk!! I love Peter and Steph, I think they're more nuanced than they're getting credit for. I love to see cringefail nerds getting badass and amazing girlfriends, let me have this!!!!!

since luigi seems to be so analytical and anal with his thought processes (like you mentioned), i can see him pre-relationship being a bit skeptical while getting to know you; just because that’s not how his brain works. at the start he’d ask you so many questions. you’d have so many conversations that would give him better insight into your mind, to make sure you’re not just in la la land all the time. it’s giving, waiting for 3rd or 4th date to talk politics?… no. 1st date we’re talking about thoughts on religion, the afterlife, etc.

also, that’s not an insult to right brained/artistic ppl, I’m one of them (if you couldn’t tell lol)! i’ve been perceived as dumb(er than others) because I’m so driven by creativity, english and the arts (NOT scientific or mathematical at all). It's only once someone gets to know me better, that they learn how intelligent I am. right brain thinkers are more likely to be dismissed or overlooked, imo!

someone like luigi may not have been too surrounded by many right brain thinkers let alone dated them, and he would be so curious about what goes on in your mind.

obviously, you do develop a relationship and the dynamic would be adorable. you balance each other out! there may be some minor situations and misunderstandings where his strict, logical, rational self isn’t sure where you’re coming from; but he always listens to you explain your POV, and does come around to understand it. he’s very open minded, esp when it comes to you!

he loves your brain. i mean, he’s so fascinated by it. you find art, beauty, creativity and meaning in things that he could’ve never perceived in such a way. both of your brains work in different ways that are both so important.

whether you come to him about a situation all pouty, or do the opposite, acting stubborn and silent about it until he picks up on your mood shift, coming over to help you.. he’ll have a solution. he’d drop anything to brainstorm a way to help you solve your problems. for luigi, because of his logical problem solving, the solution is usually simple for him to come up with. but then you’re standing there with stars in your eyes like ‘wow luigi😍❤️ i would’ve never come up with that🤩 thank you so much😩’ and he’s just there, giddy, bc you make him feel so smart and useful. he’s so happy when he can help you in any way.

there will probably be a lot of funny moments trying to make decisions together. you might want to decide based on gut feeling, or your emotions, but he’ll be so analytical; thinking of every detail. for example, buying furniture together. you might be like “omg! this couch is such a cute colour, matches the vibe of our apartment and it feels so soft!” and luigi would be like “uhm… yeah! cute! but… (pulls out tape measure) it isn’t the correct dimensions, the fabric isn’t stain resistant, the cushion covers aren’t removable, and it isn’t well reviewed online….😅🥸”

if he’s not with you, he’ll take photos of things he sees while out-and-about, maybe exploring, and send them to you. or!!! when he comes home, he’ll be all excited to show you stuff he took pictures of, wondering what your perspective on it would be, how you would interpret it. he’ll go through the pictures with you and just listen to you gush over something artsy or interpretive, like if he saw graffiti he thought you’d find cool, a quote from a book or painting at a museum. idk!

if he goes book shopping for his own yk NON fiction books, he’ll always come back with a book or two for you. he’ll get home, probably make some sort of joke like “i just chose the book that had the most colourful cover”, when in reality he spent time at the bookstore looking through the books, reading so many back covers to choose one that he knows you’ll genuinely enjoy. or, he’ll just buy a book he remembers you mentioning you wanted in passing. even if he wouldn’t enjoy reading it, he enjoys knowing it brings you joy. and if you talk to him about a book you’re reading/read, he’ll listen as if it’s his favourite genre.

me personally, idk if it’s the eldest daughter in me, but i LOVE being taken care of + i think he’d enjoy feeling helpful. like if i was drawing on an app on my ipad and it crashed or something, i’d go running to him for help.. with anything technology related (even if i had an idea of how i could fix it myself) like heyyy my lil compsci problem solver.. help pls😇

My concept for what would be a Socrates dating sim (you play as Socrates) and you can fuck all the interlocutors while working through their dialogues as part of gameplay. There's 16 here in purple, and I picked four of the five-star ones to color in with more detail (I assume each person's character card would have colors attached. but here's Agathon, Alcibiades, Charmides, and Glaucon) (forgive the incorrect spelling on some names in the purple). It'd be called Logos and Longing: A Truly Socratic Dating Sim

This would, of course, be in the style of a ridiculous anime dating sim that's intentionally a little cringe and overblown (hence people's mini dialogue lines up there and their bios; it's a parody of that and very unserious).

Many more thoughts under the cut, in no particular order:

There are eight stats. Four of them are just character qualities (charisma as their success convincing other people of things, likeability for how much Athens likes them, intelligence in basic smartness, and truth in how much they care about that). Then the other four are the Virtues (justice, sophrosune, courage, wisdom).

Based on your interactions with the interlocutors, you change how much of each virtue they exhibit. What I drew is what I consider their starting levels to be

The number of stars is their 'fuckability' index. Some interlocutors I think are obviously more fuckable and that needed to be represented

A few main plot lines (aside from just each dialogue) would exist:

The Republic plotline. You can romance Thraymachus, Adeimantus, and Glaucon. Glaucon is treated as most fuckable in The Republic, so that's true here as well (he has more stars than Adeimantus)

The Alcibiades plot line. This one goes through the Protagoras, Alcibiades I, and the Symposium (obviously he has his plot line. Who am I kidding?)

You can fuck anyone who was at the Symposium and gave a speech. They're not all good choices (idk what you would do with Eryxymachus, for example. I don't think I made him a card but in my mind he's in there).

The Thirty Tyrants plot line. Basically anyone who was in a dialogue who was involved in the Thirty Tyrants gets involved here. New and interesting ways for you to romance people while they're doing that.

Everything else is just like stand-alone episodes with the dialogues. You have some options, you go through all the main logical points of the dialogue, and then you have opportunity to romance the interlocutor

Inter-NPC interactions:

I figured since most of these people would have known each other, you can impact your relationships with other interlocutors based on who you romance.

If you romance either Glaucon or Charmides, you piss off Critias to some degree (Charmides was his cousin iirc and Glaucon was recorded as his beloved. So. He wouldn't love that I assume)

That's generally true for most people in the erastes/eromenos relationships. If you go after one who's already in a relationship, that might cause NPC strife later on for you. The same thing if you romance an NPC who has some familial relation that's also in the game

You can romance Pausanias and Agathon both, but if you go after just one, you'll get jealousy or anger from the other. If you keep a good relationship with Pausanias in one way or another, he'll try to help you out when you go on trial. Agathon and Pausanias is one of the only ones where you can romance both simultaneously and create some kind of weird three-way situation

If you romance anyone who isn't Alcibiades, he gets annoyed. Thankfully you can win him back but he won't be happy about it

Glaucon and Adeimantus both get jealous if you romance the other

The game would sort of be non-linear, to the point where you can make decisions in flashbacks that change your current interactions with the interlocutors. You can "alter" the historical record by making specific choices (an example would be depending on if you can raise your own 'likeability' stat high enough, you could get closer to avoiding the death sentence--but you couldn't actually escape it fully, just slightly change the outcome. Or alternatively, if you manage to get enough philosophy into Alcibiades, he'll dial it back just a tiny bit, enough for his name to not be used during your trial. Things like that).

Game ends when you die

You can get different achievements unlocked based on how close to maxing out other people's romance bars you are, or based on how high their virtue bars get after talking to you (since you can make people more virtuous by choosing the right options in your dialogues)

You can also raise or lower your own virtue. If you resist other people's advances often, your 'sophrosune' bar goes up. If you accept all of that and libations and everything, it goes down.

If you lower your own virtues or likeability too fast, you get put on trial faster (you can slow this process if people like you, but after the end of the thirty tyrants arc, it's really the beginning of the end)

Different characters will help you out by gifting you things if you romance them (this doesn't even mean full romance, it's more if you cross a certain threshold), and you can potentially unlock additional scenes (ones that aren't in dialogues, or are very side-bars in dialogues, or exist in the historical record or thucydides or something instead)

You can get a fade-to-black with *most* characters (i say most because some are omitted from this despite being "romanceable")

Layout of who's what level:

Five stars: Alcibiades (obvious), Glaucon (Socrates clearly likes him best in the Republic and lets him have the very best allegories), Charmides (what the hell is the opening to this dialogue. come on now. in this dating sim Charmides would be 18 at least during that dialogue; not sure what it is in the actual platonic canon), Phaedrus (this entire dialogue is basically them going on a riverside picnic to give speeches about love), Agathon (Socrates is already trying to glom onto him in the Symposium. for some reason)

Four stars: Crito (he obviously cares deeply. we all need a Crito in life), Lysis (the only one interlocutor you can't fuck because he's too little. your 'romance' here is just garnering his affection) and by extension Menexenus (same deal as Lysis. just getting affection, nothing more. also Lysis-aged)

Three stars: Aristophanes (vulgar, Socrates probably liked him better before The Clouds dropped), Pausanias (symposium participant; agathon's loving boyfriend), Adeimantus (dollar store Glaucon. sorry), Laches (that dialogue opens with them talking about if hoplites should be training naked or not. ok)

Two stars: Theatetus (he's just here. idk), Protagoras (general sophist behavior; mid; Socrates has better prospects), Critias (tyrannical soul fail)

One star: Thrasymachus ("might makes right", obnoxious and also a sophist again), Euthyphro (that entire dialogue is just him getting deservedly dragged. hate fuck situation if anything. he's annoying)

Obviously i'm leaving some out so if you read this and see your favorite interlocutor missing sorry. anyway if i had an ounce of coding capability in my blood i would make this. im tempted to just make it a scripted story alone (no art or anything, just music and choosing the options and people's stat bars) but whatever.

Seventeen's Green & Red Flags for Partners

Disclaimer: No facts, all alleged. This is my interpretation of the cards and energy I work with.

They are a big group, so will not do yellow flags. Just going with the green and red for this one. The yellow is usually similar to the red anyway, so won't change much, but here we go.

S.Coups

Green (10 of Swords) Weird card to get for this. He could like someone who can deal with mental struggles well, or maybe someone that can handle his mental struggles. He would prefer someone who can rise above the mental struggles they would go through and find a way out of it. Or be able to handle the stress he may go through and help him through it.

Red (2 of Swords) He would not like someone dismissive, argumentative, stubborn, someone black and white in their thinking. Someone who struggles to make a decision. Also, someone neutral. And someone who cannot see his point of view on things.

Jeonghan

Green (Justice/10 of Cups) Someone rational. I see him wanting someone who wants to get married and provide a happy home for him. Both these cards can be about marriage, so he would prefer someone who wants that for them both and sees marriage and kids for their future. Also, some reasonable, smart and logical with how they go about things.

Red (Strength) This one flew out. He has a strong opinion on this. Someone bossy, arrogant, stubborn and someone with a big ego. Someone who doesn't listen and is hard to reason with and just goes with what they want.

Joshua

Green (3 of Swords) I would say someone who can communicate their hurt and pain to him. Someone who is willing to heal themselves from the hurt they have dealt with. This is also another weird card for a green flag though. Not much to say here.

Red (The High Priestess) Someone who is secretive. Someone mysterious. Maybe someone too intrusive and too intuitive about him. Someone who doesn't act on things and just sits back. I would say more he doesn't like partners who hide things from him, like their inner thoughts and feelings. Also, someone who hasn't done inner work for themselves and looks for external validation in life.

Jun

Green (King of Pentacles) He wants a boss ass person. Not sure I mentioned if he is into men, but this could give me that, but he may also like a woman who thinks like one and goes after their goals. Someone ambitious and practical.

Red (Queen of Cups) Basically the opposite. He does not want women lol Let me stop, I mean that could be the case, but I can also see it as he doesn't like soft and sensitive woman who are more about feelings and their emotions. He prefers someone cold, grounded and a work horse, none of that lovey dovey, sweet stuff. He is kind of funny.

Hoshi

Green (The Devil) Dude why this card man. He wants someone obsessed, attached to him. This is kind of toxic for a green flag to be real. This is not something you would want for a green flag, so this dude has a warped view on partnerships at the moment. He may also want someone obsessed with material wealth and an extremely hard worker. So, he would prefer someone who tries to accumulate a lot of wealth and things in life.

Red (5 of Pentacles) Going along with the green flag. He wouldn't want someone who doesn't seek his help and leaves him out of things. But also, someone who struggles to make money or make something out of their life. He may not like someone with a lack mindset. This dude stresses he wants someone who can chase and obtain wealth of some sort.

Wonwoo

Green (7 of Wands) He would like someone who can defend themselves against any obstacle that gets in their way. Kind of like a tough warrior. Also, someone who can stand by him through thick and thin and defend him and their relationship.

Red (Page of Cups) Someone gullible, naive, too innocent, moody, emotionally unstable. Someone who isn't very realistic and practical and just goes off their emotions. He wouldn't want someone idealistic and doesn't see the reality of their relationship and what it entails.

Woozi

Green (4 of Pentacles) Someone with a lot of self-control. Someone who is good with money. Someone reserved and keeps to themselves and doesn't share their business. Also, someone very professional. Weird message there. Why would that be important. Also, someone pretty serious about things in life.

Red (3 of Swords) Now, this makes more sense as a red flag. He would not like someone who lets a third party get in the way of their connection. That is all he is giving me there. Also, he could have been cheating on in the past, so that could be something he stresses he doesn't want to happen again or allowing the company and others to interfere. He would want someone willing to stick with him through those challenges.

Dokyeom

Green (Temperance) Interesting both these cards indicate balance. Anyway, he would want someone balanced and peaceful. Someone who can compromise. And someone who understands that art patience and moderation. He would want the connection to be soothing and calm overall. And they just get one another.

Red(2 of Pentacles) Someone who may juggle too many things and doesn't just focus on one thing at a time. He may not like someone who is unstable and struggles to stay on task or focused on a particular goal. He may not like someone who juggles different jobs or plays with money and their career too much. Like, they don't take things too seriously. He may not like that.

Mingyu

Green (The Chariot) Hia makes sense lol He wants someone that can take on a challenge and doesn't let their fears dictate what they do. He wants someone bold and courageous.

Red (The Moon) This pretty much goes with the green flag He doesn't want someone consumed by fear and worries and lets their emotions rule their lives and just lays dormant. He prefers someone to take action. So, if you wallow and are overly emotional and do nothing about facing your fears. He would not like that. I love how straight forward he is lol

Minghao

Green (The Sun) He wants a person that has bright energy. Someone who takes action and lifts his spirit up. Someone with a creative, childlike and positive energy. He may prefer someone more extroverted and has a lot of energy.

Red (7 of Wands) Someone defensive, guarded, always looking for a fight or feels they need to fight. Someone who is hard to get to know or struggles to be vulnerable. Also, someone with an aggressive energy.

Seungkwan

Green (Ace of Swords) Someone who can think of new ideas very quickly. Someone inquisitive. Someone who approaches things rationally and logically. Someone who thinks things through before doing anything or always has a plan.

Red (4 of Cups) Someone emotionally inept and not intuned with their feelings at all. Someone avoidant and keeps their distance or doesn't really open to him.

Vernon

Green (The Lovers) Someone he feels a strong pulled towards. He would want someone he just gets along with and vibes with very well. He may need to feel that instant connection. I don't see him having a specific green flag. Just someone he can sense that there is a connection.

I am assuming you're talking about the manga with a cute art style, the one with this trio, which I love dearly

If so, I am very sorry Anon, my blog is misleading propaganda. None of these three are the protagonists, or even sidekicks to the protagonist, they are either stuck as a gag character for half of the manga, pushed to the side, given an antagonistic role/a role that have a diferent belief from the mcs, or all of the above simultaneously.

This is not their story.

They do eventually get focus, there is a reason I have grown attached to their arcs more than the protagonist's stories, but I am aware most people do not vibe with them. Many actually hate these three. They aren't the heart of this story. If you read this manga, rest assured it won't be for them.

So let me try to give you a more accurate idea of what the story is about without any major spoilers/details.

The manga is called "Toilet Bond Hanako-kun" which is a strange mainstream translation considering "suicide boy Hanako-kun" is the more accurate one. Very different vibes between those two translations, right? That's how the manga feels too, it is a mix of strange and goofy and 'oh, shit got dark'.

The story takes place in a fantasy world where supernaturals and ghosts exist and the trio in the spotlight are these three goofballs!

The red eyed girl is our main protagonist, Yashiro Nene, she is in love with the idea of love, a true hopeless romantic!

She attracts trouble and have a wild imagination, easily getting stuck inside her own fantasies as a form to both find strength and avoid tragedies. She is an insecure but very kind soul with a lot of hope in her heart, but she is not that smart. While she does have her moments, if you dig strategy stories and logical characters this story isn't for you, it's more about whimsy and vibes.

The boy with the cap is the main lead and our titular boy "Hanako." He is a ghost, more specifically a supernatural, which are ghost whose soul got corrupted for staying in our world instead of moving on once they died. He is also the main love interest. A mischievous morally grey spirit with no self-love, no hope, and a lovely mix of being apathetic and caring too much. He is dangerous, selfish, awkward, and possessive and he hates it.

The blond one is Minamoto Kou, an exorcist who never exorcised anything, he is a kind and insecure guy, not very smart logic-wise but his emotional intelligence is surprisingly good (bad habits aside). He is selfless to the point of concern, and starts out determined to be Hanako's eternal enemy but they become besties by accident. He is desperate to help, very determined, very impulsive, very easy to trust. Horrible at being an exorcist.

The friendship between these three is very sweet. You feel like it will be a generic love triangle on their intro but no, they all care about each other. Romance may be a big thing in this manga but this trio are besties.

The humor can be hit or miss, sometimes it's so silly or dry that I love it, but sometimes it's passes my bar and becomes overly exaggerated. Some of the gags just don't land (at least to me), and if you think about the story too much, is not hard to find inconsistencies, but the main sell of this manga is character comflict, which is usually real good, and the supernaturals elements/stories which are the main events of the manga. All the supernatural stories are amazing.

I don't want to spoil the powers and rumors and tragedies but here are some 'vibes' of the supernatural elements.

It is a rollercoaster of cool ideas and vibes and creative ways to explore the wishes and fears of the characters.

A lot changes through the story, this trio won't be the main dynamic forever but it is the heart at the start, and the supernatural stuff is strong during the entire manga! So if the pros sound better than the cons, go check it out!

Thoughts and analysis on how the female characters are written in Cobra Kai/the misogyny in the show overall?

Oooof, that's a big one lol.

It's so interesting to me because I feel like CK is two different shows. On one hand I actually kind of love how they wrote both Sam and Tory. They got to be messy teenagers, the same as the male cast. They get to be flawed and human.

I think it all goes back to Ali. In the movie Ali was strong and independent and didn't put up with Johnny (or Daniel's) bullshit. She was far from a passive character. She wasn't just the girl the boys were fighting for. When I first saw the show I was under the impression that she was the impetus behind Johnny and Daniel's "rivalry." That they were fighting over the girl they both loved and she was somehow in the middle passively.

She was not. Daniel and Johnny's issues are just classic bullying. Johnny doesn't need a reason to bully Daniel, because that's how bullies are. He uses Ali as a reason to take his anger and entitlement out on Daniel because that makes it seem more "fair."

Ali was never going to be interested in Johnny again. He was never going to "win" her. She made that clear. She was over him. He was harassing her. The recontextualization of all three of them being some sort of triangle instead of just two people wanting to date, with a random third butting in, was really a disservice to her character.

But that's the logic they show works by. It makes all of the aggression and fault seem mutual. And it's because giving Ali and Daniel some of the blame absolves Johnny of some of his. Ali is being treated as an object rather than a person. Even Johnny's obsession with her, while they try to make it seem genuinely sweet, comes off more as if he's emotionally stunted and clinging to the past.

So that's where we start with when it comes to how they write women. Then comes Amanda and she's great. She's smart and funny and beautiful and sassy. But she's also sort of used as a prop to further separate Daniel and Johnny's life experiences. Daniel has a hot wife. Johnny is single and doesn't talk to his ex. Etc.

Sam is an interesting character because she's believable. I feel like a lot of teen girls have gone through their "mean girl" phase. Although tbh, she was never really that mean. At worst she was complacent. She was raised loving karate, and to be strong and independent, and in her eyes she's rebelling by being more the cheerleader type. But s1 shows her realizing that her desire to fit in is misplaced. She's not actually happy.

I love how the show explores her anger. Her fear. Her courage.

"guys can fight and have it be no big deal, but when a girl does it we're crazy"

But then it subtly victim blames her by having the narrative reinforce that Tory assaulting her was somehow equivalent to Sam and Miguel's drunk kiss. Certain characters see it as it is, violent and tragic. Certain characters see it as only fair play. And ultimately it gets played down and turned into a "rivalry" similar to Johnny and Daniel's.

I think her arc is well handled. I think it shows her exploring her relationship with femininity, and the legacy of her father, well. She ultimately finds herself by embracing what she has in common with her father while also learning to accept their differences.

Also S1-2 has Aisha, who was SUCH a breath of fresh air as a female character. Especially for a teen. She was fat and a nerd (and don't tell me she and Sam didn't have a codependent gay thing going on) and was not treated as a punchline.

I love that moment when Miguel is hesitant to hit her because she's a girl, and his friend, and she takes No Mercy on Miguel and just drops him. Only for Johnny to be stunned at her level of badassery. I love how he didn't treat her any differently from her make counterparts.

and it came right after johnny said women have hollow bones. Lol

Which is obviously a silly joke. We, as the viewer, are expected to roll our eyes at that because we know it's ridiculous. And we can see Johnny start to unlearn the worst parts of his more conservative worldview.

So of course they got rid of her.

and Tory, Tory is just fascinating as a character. I don't think they knew what to do with her. She is introduced as a foil to Sam. Sam is more feminine (although saying Tory is "masculine" is quite a stretch), she is more soft, she comes from a well off family.

Tory is aggressive, poor, etc. she's the "bad girl" to Sam's "good girl."

She's angry and it's justifiable. She's flawed and it shows. She's empathetic.

(there's definitely something strange to say about how the writers have written her dealing with creepy male aggression multiple times to contrast her with Sam's "virtue" or whatever but that's an entire subtopic)

I think she's a great character. But people seem to think her past excuses her more violent behavior rather than explains it. It takes forever for her to genuinely say sorry. And I think that's not a flaw on her as a character, but shows how the writers view her actions as more justified, the same way they view Johnny's.

She at least got to realize her fault though, and work through that. I really like her and Robby actually. I think that Peyton is a great actress and really gives her depth. Her and Robbie's ending was bullshit.

Kumiko wasn't done too dirty by the writers. But I do wish she had more of an impact other than just being Daniel's lost love. The Okinawa subplot is more about Daniel and Chozen's progress rather than her own. She's sort of stagnant. She never moved on from Daniel. I love her, and I love her and Daniel and I think their joint scenes are some of the most beautiful in the entire show, but I think they kind of flattened her from the tomato throwing spit fire she was in the movie.

BUT ACTUALLY IM BIG MAD ABOUT HOW THEY NEVER EVEN BOTHERED TO GIVE HER A LAST NAME. (In the same season where they give literal war criminals empathetic back stories. Ang again. I love those war criminals. )

The worst by far is Carmen. R. I.P.

At first I did like her with Johnny in a sort of "opposites attract" kind of way. Because she DIDN'T just let him get away with his bullshit. She called him out on it. And she was one of the reasons for Johnny's (temporary) character development. She sees him as he is. A mess. But not a bad person.

I love how their relationship helps Johnny to (temporarily) work on getting his drinking more under control. And as a recovered alcoholic from a long family history of it, I thought that subplot was very accurately and empathetically written.

She was a character who was written around the men in her life, but she at least wasn't a doormat. Then the writers paired her up with Johnny for real and she just lost all of her personality? Suddenly he can get away with whatever? Suddenly she's just fine having a baby with an unemployed alcoholic?

I don't have much of an opinion on Yas and moon tbh. Moon is cute, while obviously meaning to be a bit of a stereotype. But I don't mind that much.

Yas I'm unsure on. I loved to hate her. She was the classic mean girl. And it did feel kinda good to see her having to deal with the consequences of her actions (Aisha being fed up with it finally and hitting back)

But I don't really buy that it would suddenly fix her from her bullying mentality. And I think it would've been great to see her struggle with trying to be a better person. Because being a good person is hard sometimes. She's not gonna pull a 180, and she didn't exactly. But we don't get to see her come to terms with the consequences of her bad behavior, and we don't get to see her actually understand wanting to be a better person.

I actually do think that Dimitri and Yas are cute in the "opposites attract" kinda way but I do NOT like how they used the nerd getting the hot girl as recompense. Like. Of course the nerd got the hot girl who used to be mean to him. Because that's what he deserves. She deserved to get humiliated and taken down a level while he claimed her as a prize.

Obviously it's not meant to be That Deep, but I feel like there was the opportunity for a very cute opposites attract type of romance and they just phoned it in because they think of women and girls as objects for men to win.

Ultimately it's so confusing tbh because it's like monkeys at a typewriter. Sometimes they come up with great shit. And we love to see it. But then it doesn't go very far. And we get to see through their overall treatment of women how they actually see women.

I genuinely did not plan on writing all of this but I started thinking and didn't stop and now it's probably a mess. ✌️

EDIT: I entirely forgot about Devon and Shannon but lemme just say that it is very telling that Shannon is essentially Johnny but a woman, (and tried harder to be a parent for Robby )and look at how they treated her

Some thoughts about Edvin's insane behaviour

now that I'm able to think a bit more rationally I'm realising just HOW insane edvin's thought process is lol.

he took a huge step back from the fandom and social media. he likes his privacy. he doesn't like his sexuality to be talked about. he wanted to calm down the shippers and to protect his gf from getting hated on even more. this was his entire agenda the past year.

(smart people like us on this blog who know the truth have connected the dots in a way in which we know that one reason for why he overcompensated and over exaggerated his behaviour with turtle soo much is because he was very hurt after the hookup and wanted to act like he completely moved on).

and he knows how insecure and jealous turtle is about the shippers.

so now he....

flies to London a day after his bday without his gf after spending his bday together with MJ and his gf at some random film premiere??? also 2 days before he denied going to o's concerts at the qx gala.

he must've dmed Omar's team days/weeks prior asking them if he's allowed to come on stage to surprise Omar??

and then.. he acts so insanely GAY and IN LOVE as hell on stage. going WAY WAY overboard.

he could've just chosen to attend the concert like he did at cirkus... being very supportive but secluded. or he could've chosen to surprise Omar during Simon's song bc yes the song fits them both of course... but that still doesn't explain all of THAT.

but he knows what this would look like? he knows the reaction this would cause??? how the shippers will go insane? how his gf will go insane??

of course he could also be in London for a work thing or something. but there's nothing that explains behaviour as irrational as this lol

another realistic explanation is that he only planned to stay on the balcony and then spontaneously got talked into coming on stage by omar's team. seems very realistic. but still doesn't explain them acting like this.

some brainless haters will now bring up the arguments that "e is hungry for fame" or that this is all "omr beauty promo". but I hope everyone can agree that these arguments seem very weak and absolutely do not explain the depth of such insane behaviour.

now other people are already claiming that both edvin and turtle stole their stories from the movie premiere from edvin's bday from someone else? and weren't acc there?... seems very weird. but smth to keep in mind maybe.

Edmar are both great actors. but neither of them can fake something like this.

In conclusion:

no straight guy with "no feelings" acts like this. there's no logical explanation for someone to behave like this. the only explanation is when your feelings are so strong and you're so head over heels for a person that you fail to think your actions through. and this is what's happening to Edvin. if I were turtle I would genuinely be very mad, it feels like disrespectful to her. lol. obviously I personally love this behaviour from him :)

about Omar's behaviour I can only say one thing: he's absolutely down bad and can't hide it LOL.

While I keep working on the design for the Cipher twins AU here's some more things i thought to add!

They both have Ford's 6 fingers hands, since they're mostly made of his genetic material it was a high probsbilty that it'd be passed down.

I'm not sure about Canon but in this au the twins are partially responsible for their parents divorce, not for a fault of their own but because their parents think they're too freaky and contributed greatly to the cracks already existing in their marriage. So they've been sent to who they think is their actual father/creator, not knowing its Stanley.

They have shared dreams/dreamscape (this is actually inspired by real life because when me and my brother slept in the same room as kids we'd sometimes have conjoined dreams? It's a story for another time anyways) plus the fact that Bill is technically on of their fathers means they can always lucid dream and have a pretty good control on their dreams. They have their own separate dream areas, almost like they "split" their rooms, especially as they grew. This is to give eachother privacy in their dreams and also because their tastes in dreams are vastly different.

They can talk telepathically, being linked through the dreamscape has their consciousnesses closely linked. They keep it as radio sort of situation, as neither is keen to look in the other's thoughts. It could be a completely open channel. It used to be when they were younger, which greatly contributed to their freakishness as they used to talk together, as if they were one being.

Dipper and Mabel have personalities that stick pretty close to canon, with Dipper taking more after Ford and Mabel after Stan. Tho as they're Ford's kids I'd say they've both inherited his genius in different ways, Dipper is smart and logical, a bit too calculating and probably on the spectrum. He likes to study things because he wants to know more and likes feeling in control. He has a quick mind, good for puzzles, equations and observation. Very fast learner. Mabel is creative and a tinkerer, while she still loves to make sweaters (and bedazzled eyepatches) her inventiveness is cranked up. She's made some pretty complex sweaters, some that could light up, so it's not even too much of a reach. She likes to make useful machines to help around the house, and while they do work, they're usually weird looking and usually made for unnecessary tasks: like glitter dispensers, disco toilets, rainbow colored shower water etc.. although she's good at making things on request, like Stan's beloved automatic backscratcher.

Stan started wearing the eyepatch as his Man of Mystery persona to make the kids feel more welcomed. He says that it's so they can sell the while "Mystery Family" deal and make more money but he always thinks of his brother and how it was for him as a child to be a "freak"

Dipper's constellation glows when he's sleeping.

The twins don't know they're not completely human. They just think they've inherited the "Family weirdness" that they've heard about.

They still think Stan is their Grunkle. Things start to click after they first meet Bill. They have an easier time in this Au, since they're used to their own dreamscape, they're much more of a threat to Bill, who retreats after he realises just what the twins are.

Their realisation about Bill is complex, along the lines of "We're connected but I don't know how."

They have heavily suspected that the author is related to them since the first season because what are the chances of a 6 fingers handprint on a diary.

When they meet Ford they're like "oh ok- Stan has a twin? So we have two great uncles, makes sense, we must have the 6 fingers mutation in our genetic makeup, a family thing. He's our dad. He's our dad???"

Granda and Candy are still awesome best friends and they never make Mabel feel bad for being different. To them, she's just as weird as they are.

Dipper doesn't have a crush on Wendy. He thinks he does, because he has no experience with this sort of things, but it's actually a mix of admiration and envy, he'd like to be more like her.

DBDA Headcanons: Edwin's Notebook

Edwin's notebook is an eternal thing.

He had it on the mortal plane when he was alive, but when he brought it to Hell - an eternal place - it too became endless. I think this is supported because he is able to keep case notes in it now for the entire series as well as having his Hell maps at the front from 35+ years ago as he tried to escape.

But this, to him, is not the main value of his notebook and both the maps and case notes inside it. He is extremely attached to it because it's a) something left from his actual life, and b) that has been with him through every stage of his life.

(AKA, it literally went to Hell and back with him, so he feels emotionally bonded to it.)

It also has been with him through the Dead Boy Detective Agency and contains case notes from his best memories with Charles over the past 35 years, and this reminds him that his work is important and his friendship with Charles will always be a comfort.

Finally, he is just very attached to it because it was his salvation when he was in Hell, something that he was doing for himself. Some evidence that he had hope and he could have a future outside of it, and the notebook is a symbol of all of that.

(And, sue him, he's proud. Escaping was a challenge, and it was a massive accomplishment that he achieved with logic and mapping and experimentation and diligent note-taking records. He's smart.)

But in addition to sentimental value, Edwin keeps this notebook for a practical purpose:

It has all of his Hell notes in it, and we know how (rightfully) terrified he is of going back. He thinks that if he has to go back to Hell, having the maps in it - or the memory of the maps in it, at least, so he studies them - will aid him in escaping again.

Because of his attachment to it, Edwin doesn't let anybody besides Charles touch his notebook, and it even took like 10 years for him to let Charles touch it and flip through it. It took 20 for him to let Charles write anything in it.

He also lets Niko quickly press a Keroppi sticker onto the corner of its back cover. It's the only way he has ever allowed the notebook to be altered, but Niko irrevocably altered his life, and he's glad that the sticker on the notebook is hers.

So this is not the first actual one shot/fic i thought I’d lost on here but I’ve been stalking @aangelinakii and on their JL master lost there’s a relationship trope and the bruce x happy go lucky villain, grumpy x sunshine makes me way too happy to think abt so i had to write something.

Bruce who, nicely put, is emotionally constipated. He’s gone through a lot and is reluctant to rely on others to much to often so he’s typically quite closed off, except when it comes to adopting orphans, he loves that and does it 24/7 it’s a side hustle at this point.

So when a new villain/anti-hero/criminal fighting crime, call it what you want, appears in Gotham he’s interested.

Joker has somehow, been in Arkham for more than 3 weeks so his days have been a tad bit quieter.

Only a tad though this is still Gotham.

The broody man decides to check out the new girl on the metaphorical block, see what he’s dealing with, should she go to Arkham, does she just need to go to prison for a couple of months.

He just wants to know what the best plan of action is so he goes out into the night and well he looks for her.

You had always loved bright colours. Anything colourful could make you smile. Literally if you see a pet shop and there is a bright pink car collar, you’d smile.

That was just the kind of person you were. Happy go lucky described you best. Not always a social butterfly, sometimes crowds were too much but hey, you did what you could to keep smiling.

The world has too much hurt and despair in it for you to spend your days moping around wishing things would change. They might never, at least not for you, but you could change things for others.

Kindness was free after all and let’s be honest, giving a simple smile is probably definitely a lot safer in Gotham than threatening someone for the last pack of toothpaste.

I know you might be thinking doing something at the expense of other for the good of a small few isn’t worth it. Well it is.

You don’t just go around terrorising people. Yes you have robbed multiple banks, armed but you never intended on killing or hurting anyone, just stealing money from the corporate sharks who make big bucks off of small people and giving it back to those who needed .

So really you didn’t think you were a villain, at least not the kind the big bat bat fought so having him track you down made you feel, certain ways.

You were alone, sitting on the curb outside of a 24/7 corner store, eating some frozen pizza, yes frozen pizza, yes it’s still frozen. You had a bag of caramel and toffees next to you and a nice big milkshake on your other side.

The pizza, still frozen was actually good, everything stuck together and whilst you did love a nice cheesy pizza you also like it when the cheese wouldn’t slide if the pizza bread so frozen was, in your opinion, the best and most efficient way to eat it.

The store owner who when you first met was scared of you now let’s you pick 3 free things for your meal whenever your in the area, got stopped some armed robbers when you were planning on robbing the place but the owner, Lucy bless her doesn’t know. And doesn’t need too. She thinks you were being a good civilian, wich you were you just had some previous intentions, none that included armed robbery just a bag of chips and a drink leaving the store with you without being paid for.

Anyways, you went back you your place, took the stuff you really couldn’t live without, your animals, à stuffed animal teddy you’d had since you were a baby and your clogs. Yes as in the wooden shoes, you found them one night dumpster diving and they were quite good for helping your feet’s arches since you couldn’t afford orthopaedic shoes, or insoles.

After you got all your stuff you let Batman whisk you and your pets to his batcave. Melon your elephant was greeted by the smallest, Robin. He was quite guarded around you and insulted your clothes when you first entered, that’s alright, he COULDVE had a bad day and you might’ve reminded him of it. Somehow.

Anyways, he liked Melon, and Martie your zebra also started receiving pets.

This was when you discovered he was Bruce Wayne. You started living with him, slowly your attended galas with him, starting off with ones he would host and after a few more years, maybe 2 or 3 possibly 5 you got together.

You really liked him and although you could tell he had a soft spot for you, you didn’t want to push him too much for something he wasn’t ready for.

So you waited, all the kids loved you, Damian, came around quickly when you told him how you came to acquire your animals, asking you if you knew any other zoos that mistreated their animals so he could help you break in and steal some.

You guys did end up doing that.

He has a crocodile , who by the way has a whole ass lake all by itself okay not all by itself there are some fishes and her baby croc but yeah, no one in the family except you 2 and Bruce really go down to visit, Bruce because he just doesn’t want either of you 2 getting hurt and seeing his son and the woman he loves (shhh he’s not ready emotionally yet) spend quality time together, even though it’s feeding crocodiles warms his heart.

Damian also got a giraffe and a lemur. The giraffe stays with Martie and the Batcow whilst the lemur which you forced him to call Mort stays with him, King Julian was an option but the baby lemur looked so much like mort you couldn’t not call him.

Anyways you slowly but surely earned a place in the hearts of everyone in the family and whilst you had been in his heart the entire time Bruce was finally ready to love you after a couple of years of being hopelessly devoted to youuuu.

In the first couple of years in joining Bruce you joined the league aswell, the other members finding it bizarre how you and Batman fit sk well together, even as only friends but they warmed up to you quickly as they realised it was hard not to love you.

Genuinely though you were such an easy person to like, it’s not that you were basic and had pretty popular opinions that most people could agree on, you made others feel seen, made them feel heard, and that’s what made it hard not to like you, because you’d manage to fit in every little space you could and then fill it up with love for others.

So they understood how even Batman could be seen with the likes of you.

The plus side is, you don’t really plan on more kids so you had one pregnancy and we’re done with it.

Joker mysteriously dies and Harley moves into the Wayne manor, so that she can raise her baby alongside its future cousins. Does Harley not have a daughter or am I making shit up? 🤔 I can’t remember but let’s just say she does.

So yeah Harley is the ultimate aunt and mainly spends her days helping Alfred since well, she can’t really go back to work currently, Lucy is like the only person who will hire her so 🧍‍♀️.
