Hey, I've been following you for a long time now and I've never seen you complain or rant about literally anything but I genuinely wanted to ask your honest opinion about how you felt about episode 11 of thk like yes it was emotional but I'm asking you in terms of writing and directing side like Idk why it felt rushed and I'm a firstkhao fan so for me specially their scenes felt cut short with no problem dialogues given to them and that child intercepting them was it really needed?? It was the last 2nd episode more than that the whole day was really meaningful for them considering they will literally get to spend time together after 5 freaking years !! Hello Anon, Welcome to my humble abode of me fangirling over FirstKhaotung, I guess? I am quite bemused that you (or anyone really) can follow my rambling mess.

Anyway, getting back to your asked – I can see you are somehow frustrated and perhaps a tad disappointed with the “lesser screen time” for KantBison compared to FadelStyle?

Writing and Directing for THK Ep 11 (and THK in general)

I won’t pretend I know anything about what is considered good screenwriting/script or directing. I will also admit that there are several things that I am puzzled by in THK. Certainly, there are some weak characterisations and general plot lines that sometimes doesn’t make sense. E.g – Captain Christ being able to promise only 5 years in prison sentence (my eyebrows shot up when he said that lol). And what about the whole Kant having Madam Lilly on tape doing villainy-stuffs – how? Did she really keep her own villainous act on tape – because I am assuming those evidence was the one Keen got for the boys at the beginning of the episode). Or perhaps we are just meant to use our media literacy skills and connect the dots that the tape is likely from Ruerat (which the brothers have successfully hidden him somewhere for the last few days until he is conveniently needed as a leeway for Captain Christ to “help” our besties). Plus, Captain Christ just letting Kant/Style getting away when they are complicit in helping our pair of hitmen.

So, like I say, plot holes. And let’s be honest, The Heart Killers as a series were never going to be an award-winning show per se (unlike P’Aof series that has now won his 3rd? consecutive best BL series in award shows. And judging from fan reactions of Gem4th upcoming series with him, he will have another winner on hand). But see, P’Aof shows have never quite hit the mark for me (I liked ATOS, Bad Buddy enough – we don’t speak about Last Twilight in my blog lol – as far as I am aware, that show ended in Ep 10).

However, what I am feeling when I watched Jojo’s series… is me being entertained every week (even when I am crying buckets in some scenes). And this is especially true with The Heart Killers. From the start, he has made it clear the genre is romantic comedy. He also made it clear the show is the “fantasy of how gay hitmen lives”. Just from that, I know the show will not take itself too seriously.  

Plus, if you know P’ Jojo CVs, you kinda know what to expect with his series – and I will sum it up as expect the unexpected and plot twists. 3WBF – Jennie’ partner died at the end. OF – Sand kissing Nick/Top. So, I was prepared for anything when the official THK trailer drop. When I saw the BDSM scene for example – many people were disappointed it wasn’t a “true” BDSM scene. But I personally think it added to the narrative because it showed the distrust between the 2 of them. Of course, it will be amazing for us to have another scene that will show what a BDSM with 2 partner who trust each other will be like. However, I am already impressed by how Jojo (and FirstKhaotung) successfully introduced the concept of safe word/basic BDSM etiquette to the largely conservative Thai audience (and while THK won legions of international fans, I am again reminding people when directors/Thai production houses produced BL shows, it is first and foremost catered for Thai audiences). Or what about the way the safe word is later used in a different, non-sexual manner between KantBison – this to me, gives depth (and again, unexpected twist!) to the writing of the show.

As for Ep 11 specifically – I think there were again some parts that can be improved but overall, it is a wonderful episode that contrast beautifully between our 2 couples while also highlighting how our 4 boys have stayed true to their characters. If there is one thing I am impressed about the script, it is how our 4 main characters stayed true to their inner personality even as we see them blossom once they fall in love. You talked about how KantBison scenes appear truncated, and they didn’t have in depth “problems” dialogues when compared to FadelStyle scenes. See, part of the “problems dialogues” as you mentioned have already been addressed during their stay in Bison’s island – in fact, I will argue Ep 8-9 were particularly focusing on those – from Kant/Bison talking about their trauma and fear, their family members/ the past and what they wished for their futures. However, we didn’t get this from FadelStyle Ep 8-9 (their scenes took a comedic tone to off set the heaviness in KantBison scenes). By end of Ep 9, Fadel’s past remains a mystery (we don’t even know much about his parents/past beyond he had an ex, which he finally told Style about).

So, I am not surprised the scenes for Fadelstyle in Ep 10-11 appears “heavier” when compared to KantBison who are now largely on the same page. We still got amazing scenes like KantBison sweet date in the rock/space museum (and again them continuing to learn about each other – Bison is into astronomy while Kant loves history and archaeology – and isn’t it poetic one loves the sky & stars while the other is rooted to the ground?). The “almost proposal scene” was sweet and yes, it is slightly irritating we have our young interloper (Oskar, you are doing great honey!) killing the mood – I think Jojo meant it as the comedic tone to cut the heaviness in FadelStyle scenes who is finally opening up to Style about how he felt about himself (the self-loathing from Fadel, the way he calmly just told Style – ‘that’s my headstone when I die’ or him telling Style why he goes to the support group meetings etc.)

And it stays true to the boys’ nature – Kant choosing Bison’s date to be lighter and fun because out of the 4 of them, Bison is the more childlike and naïve (him being hitman doesn’t change that). Similarly, it stays true to Fadel’s nature that he chooses to bring Style to his pre-dug graveyard and support group place (or being more physical – like the paintball scene, which is also a nod to the scene in 10 Things I hate about You).

And let me bring even more parallel between the 2 couples:

KantBison heartfelt conversation when Bison talked about the MilkyWay followed by Kant saying he will name a star for Bison so that the latter will be reminded of him. While Bison then softly said he just wants to be in Kant’s heart followed by the scene of them exchanging tattoos (plus Kant saying – The story of you and me will be etched on my skin forever) – that is the equivalent of them exchanging wedding vows and rings (the rings being the penguin/puffins tattoos – did you know penguin/puffins mate for life? I only learn of this fact 😂, and I find it romantic the boys chose them as their matching tattoos. Plus penguin is the safe word for Kant, I’m sure he has also associated it with home)

Similarly, the FadelStyle scene of them cooking together (with Fadel professing he wants to do something he loves with Style) and them having their last dinner meal together through tears – with Style stating he will never forget the taste of the burger. Style narrating the things he will never forget about Fadel – from being shot on the run together to them kissing each other in the sea (doesn’t that read to you like wedding vows a spouse will say before saying “I do”?). Them feeding each other their burgers is the equivalent of them feeding each other wedding cake.

And while you didn’t specifically mention this, I am also very appreciative of the scenes we have of Kant and Style – it really highlights how they are not just besties, but also brothers. The way they beautifully cornered Lilly (Kant/Style looked flawless in those outfits) to them both finding ways to have the upper hand of Captain Christ as a backup plan (Style by making the fake passports while Kant staying true to his nature – slyly obtaining blackmailed material of the captain – and it’s quite telling isn’t it even with them asking for the Captain’s help, both of them instinctively do not trust him, hehe).  Personally, my favourite scene for the whole episode is Style breaking apart in Kant’s arms while Kant is trying hard to hold it together when his heart is also shattered into pieces while their loves ones are taken to prison.

Teaser for Finale/Ep 12 and what I expect to see

Also, anon – we still have EP 12. Not only are we getting our unhinged besties volunteering in prison (unexpected twist by Jojo again!) – I am hoping we will have sex scenes from all 4 boys (or at least heavy make out scenes lol), but one of the assistant director that usually post BTS of the show actually mentioned there are so many BTS photos of FK he wants to put but he could only do so during the finale (which kind of hint that we are getting good scenes from them!)

Plus, Khaotung mentioned in the recent fanmeet, he/First will be slow dancing on stage (and don’t we have the BTS footage of our couples slow dancing in the series)?

Also, don’t forget, we still haven’t got the “sweet scene” of our boys (in their boxers) in Kant’s bed (both Jojo and First confirmed there is another scene on that bed)

Bonus if I can get actual proposals/weddings but otherwise, I will take what we have from Ep 11 as them being married, and they just need to make it official once they are out of prison.

As for your comment on THK will benefit from another 3-4 episodes – look, in general, I think most Thai BLs can benefit from more episodes (The Eclipse was meant to have 14 episodes but due to budget constraint, they had to make do with 12). That’s the reality, while the quality of Thai BLs are improving over time – compared to mainstream media in Thai (we won’t even mentioned Western media), the budgets for Thai BLs/queer media in general are limited. Even more so for the show that Jojo tends to produce. Did you realise his shows doesn’t have or very limited sponsors? (for example, we don’t see Lay chips/Oishi Teas or the boys blatantly putting on sunscreens to “promote” the sponsors of the shows?). And for that, I will forgive some inconsistencies, sloppiness and plot holes because they don’t have bottomless budgets.

***I am going to put here – when Cat for Cash starts airing – see people start complaining about the “ads/sponsors” being on blatant displays during the show when its those ads that supplement the budget for the show

Staying positive regarding FK (and BL world in general)

So, I’m not sure your last sentence has more meaning than just FK general presence in THK? Are you perhaps alluding to fans in Twitter crying war with how jobless FK is when compared to other GMTMV CPs? Or how they don’t have a reality TV show of their own? Or brand sponsorships? Or how Somsoms are not pulling their weight on trending on Twitter? (if you are, well – I have my own thoughts/views of this particular matter, which I am not going to elaborate in this ask).

But, if you are asking how I stay positive in general, I made a promise to myself – if I really dislikes something, I will give myself 24 hours before writing/saying anything I will regret🫣. And most of the time, the things I am angry about just seems trivial after that. I also block a lot of users who are just blatantly prejudice against Thai BL (ok, in general, GMMTV productions) – if you have been in the tumblr long enough, you will know a specific group that should not be named (they are my Voldemort) who prided themselves as unbiased “academics” and write long meta essays that frankly highlights their biases even more.

I also work in the medical field – and well, having to deal with anxious (sometimes very angry) patients/family members means I have abundance of patience (and when I ran out of them, I know it times for me take a holiday 😅)

Anyway, I am always reminded that we consume media for fun – don’t take things so seriously. And personally, FK being their lovely self on social media is enough to make me happy. They have never expressed any hatred/criticism towards their work/GMMTV. I also think it is quite telling that none of the Thai fans have mentioned any dissatisfaction with the scenes we have of FK or series, so far?

Gqux ep 9 spoilers

firstly, maybe our CCA ep next, tho its hard to judge from the teaser alone now, the thing I found more interesting, Lalah: I kinda want peoples opinion on this but to start

these lines implies that Char, since while she doesn't name drop him its obviously who she is referencing based on how msg plays out, dies in the One year war (most likely the gelgoog battle Lalah dies in during msg). while it could be referring to CCA it is odd phrasing since other UC media refers to both Neo-Zeon and Char's hold nuke earth plan as separate to the OYW and while the NU is a white mobile suit it only kinda Kills Char, not saying it can't be but for me this points away further to this is the state of Elmeth

While it is mentioned to be unstable it does lack the battle damage it suffered in its final battle (even pre-explosion) suggesting again that event played out differently. also as a minor note I'm curious who was meant to pilot the GQux version of it since it was mentioned to have been a scrapped project but Lalah wasn't with Zeon. So, I guess GQux is adding another alternate UC timeline where Char dies being its point of divergence (Which love that this show would have 2 different timelines revolving around Char lol). Unless I have missed or misinterpreted something.

Thess vs TLOVM S3, Ep 4

It's still mostly been Wildermyth today, but of course yesterday was the day the next few episodes of TLOVM dropped. So here we go with Ep 4, still rationing episodes so there's not too long to wait between drops.

That's a cliffhanger I can leave it on, definitely. I didn't remember the details of the whole trip to the hells (partly because it was seriously de-emphasised in the campaign and mostly I remember Vex buying a couple of aasimar children to free them from slavery, which I think bumped her to either Chaotic Good or Neutral Good from True Neutral but I'm not entirely sure; set the stage for her being a champion of the Dawnfather, anyway), but those details were obviously changed to fit Zerxus into it anyway, as well as weaving it into how Yenk ends up beating on Vorugal, so works for me. Honestly, I think the way they're reorganising the campaign to fit a shorter episodic structure (both shorter in terms of number of episodes and length of the episodes themselves) with the addition of stuff from other campaigns works remarkably well.

So more of that in a couple of days, and for now ... decisions about dinner. I am still fucking tired, and don't feel like cooking. *whine*

PJM2 + Solo Music Timeline Theory pt2

So I already did my big desperate timeline prediction post, but now that we got RPWP and another possible PJM2 hint with MMM, I do have some updated thoughts. So here’s a pt2.

I’m going to stick with my prediction that PJM2 could be a summer album, and if so I think that a July release would make a lot of sense considering the album release pattern that has sort of emerged (although one time is definitely not enough to establish a pattern lol).

Basically there was exactly two months between the release of HOTS (march 29th) and RPWP (may 24th), and exactly one month between HOTS release and RPWP preorders. That means if we keep the same pattern the next album will come out at the end of July with preorders opening end of June.

This would actually be perfect considering the first half of June is going to be dedicated to Jin’s return and FESTA. What better way to cap off FESTA celebrations than an album announcement? And this schedule is the perfect way to keep content flowing without gaps or too much overlap.

We know for FESTA content we’re getting Jin’s return, RPWP MV #4 (iirc), and my guess would be possibly Jikook show teaser/announcement, maybe a group single from the vault like Take Two? There might be some more subunit variety content like MMM too. I’m sure they have some stuff planned. Plus Jin returning will be huge.

Also this album release order would follow another pattern (that might be unintentional) but basically it would be following their debut album release order: JITB -> Indigo -> FACE, HOTS -> RPWP -> PJM2

If JK releases a single after PJM2 it would also somewhat follow this pattern considering Seven came after FACE, and I don’t think Yoongi is going to be dropping music if he’s really keeping an extra low profile because of alternative enlistment. Although Fri(end)s would be the outlier here, so maybe I’m overthinking this part lol.

I still think the Jikook show could come out during the summer and be used to promote both of Jikook’s music releases. JK also hinted that he had something big in the summer so I’m still assuming it’s going to be a single (unless he’s the one with an album).

I somehow forgot about JKs documentary when I made my last post. I can’t remember if there was any actual information about when it would be released? But if we don’t have any idea, I could see September working really well if they use his birthday month like Jimin did for the Production Diary.

If JK has a single in August it would flow perfectly into Golden documentary and bonus documentary content in September. If he’s the one to release music in July I could also see it being released for Seven anniversary too.

But there’s definitely enough time for Jikook to both release music between June - August if one of them is releasing a single and the other an album, although that would be crazy considering Jikook are probably going to have the most intense releases as far as charting goes. I could see either of them releasing in September/October too. I won’t survive if we have to wait until 2025 for PJM2 so I’m not going to entertain that train of thought just yet, and JK said summer for himself so.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I really have no idea! This is definitely probably way too much speculation based on absolutely nothing substantial 😭 but this is how I keep myself sane while the fandom implodes.

But yeah, my current prediction timeline is

First half of June - Jin return, FESTA content, RPWP MV, maybe Jikook show teaser 2nd half of June - PJM2 announcement and preorders 1st half of July - possible PJM2 prerelease and content, maybe Jikook show starts 2nd half of July - PJM2, MMM mini edition August - JK releases a single or EP + Jikook show could start if it hasn’t yet September - possible JK documentary with extra content and rollout similar to Jimin’s Production Diary, or once again Jikook show if it hasn't started yet October - Hobi returns, maybe Jin album announcement? (if we were following previous pattern it would be an album at the end of the month, but that's probably way too soon)

And then obviously the rest of the year will be mostly Jin album, maybe also a single, and various promotions and activities + not sure how soon Hobi will start releasing content but he did say he had plans post-enlistment so we’ll definitely see something. And I do think a mini tour in 2025 seems crazy but possible. That would absolutely fill up the beginning of the year with something big and exciting to tide ARMYs over until June.

Okay, fair warning to y'all, I'm not going to be worrying about keeping this a spoiler-free zone, so scroll on by if you're needing to keep it unsullied for you.

That said, I actually kept myself awake to watch the first episode on Netflix when it drops. Watching now, and planning on writing down my (admittedly sleep-deprived) thoughts as it goes on. I'm heading into this pretending it's like a (high budget lol) "fanfic" with good special effects, so that I can allow myself to more easily move past any alterations. Let's goooo..

Hold up, did he crispy up Gyatso? Gyatso who in the animated series was fairly un-singed and literally surrounded by fire soldiers? I'm not sure I like that either. (And my brain is blocking the obvious fact of all the tiny airbenders in the corner bc *sob*.. though that was a thing that was true from the first one too.)

Hmm, Iroh doesn't have Zuko drilling basic forms anymore. Instead he has "never been sharper." Clear that this version is leaning towards all things fire being strong. I wonder what it'll mean for his duel with Zhao though.. it was a nice reminder in the original to see how important the basics are vs flashy stuff.

Small moment of sadness for no penguin sledding moment. Ah well. Let's see the new Zuko/Sokka showdown. ;)

Larger moment of sadness for no absolute sass of "I bet I could take you with my hands tied behind my back" moment.

Okay, but Katara gets a bigger moment, so it helps a bit.

Southern Air Temple was quite rushed feeling. Maybe there's more in the next episode? And I hope they do also touch on Aang being excited to learn waterbending alongside Katara. That was important in the first one, I felt like.

Overall, I think I'll enjoy this live-action. It's not going to replace the animation for sure, but I'm intrigued at least.

I really hope you are right with the amc upfronts being when we finally get casting news. But also I suspect they are saving the big ones for comic con. Last year it was the S3 teaser and the biggest mayfair supporting cast. This year I suspect it will be a talamasca trailer and the biggest iwtv cast announcements. I kinda hate it but also they need something big for a very slow year.

I hope I'm right too, haha. Comic Con's not until July though, isn't it? They'll surely be well into filming s3 by then, and I don't know how much they'd want to risk big cast announcements coming from set / agency leaks like it did with Joseph? Roxane, Bally and Ben were all announced before they started filming s2, so I kinda figured it would be the same for s3, at least with significant roles that they'd want to control the release of.

You'll probably be right about the Talamasca full trailer as the main draw for SDCC, but if they're already recording Lestat's album, they could do a more involved music video than the s3 teaser, or like, even an EP drop given the way Rolin's been talking about a double album, haha. If they're still filming in July, we might not even have the IWTV cast there, AMC could even keep it to Talamasca and Mayfair Witches casts, but who knows at this stage. It might be wishful thinking, but I'd be surprised if they were doing this flurry of press this week and next without making any announcements at all.

Comeback Kid - Trouble - EP

Hey, Canadian hardcore band Comeback Kid signed to SharpTone, and dropped a new EP, entitled Trouble. I can’t say I was super excited for it, as I’m not a diehard fan of these guys, but I’ve heard a few of their albums. I’ve only really listened to 2014’s Die Knowing, and 2022’s Heavy Steps. Both of those albums are pretty cool, despite how they never reinvented the wheel. Their last album was an honorable mention on my yearend list for 2022, just for being a “good what it is” album. These guys aren’t the most unique band, but they’re a reliable band. Even if they don’t reinvent the wheel, they’ll give you a good experience, so I was wondering if we’d get that with this EP.

Trouble is only four songs, and it’s twelve minutes, so it’s a short little record, but a short album can pack quite a punch. This record does just that, but Comeback Kid kind of offers something new. It’s not much, but Trouble has some clean vocals. I’m sure that they’ve employed them before, but this is more or less a melodic hardcore record, or even leans into punk, versus hardcore. The cleans aren’t bad, either, and they elevate these songs that are actually quite solid already. These are some solid hardcore bruisers, and that’s all they need to be. Songs like “Chompin’ At The Bit,” and “Breaking And Bruised” are surprisingly catchy, and they’re also heavy and rowdy.

This EP is only 12 minutes, but it’s a load of fun. If you want some solid hardcore, you’ll have a blast with this EP. It seems to serve as a stepping stone to another record, or as a teaser, but if this is how their later stuff is going to sound, I’m going to love it. Sure, this EP doesn’t do too much that’s new or unique for this band, but I love the integration of clean vocals. They’re still a heavy band, and there’s a lot of mosh-ready moments, but the clean vocals add something to the EP that I didn’t get from their last album. I’m excited for whatever they do next, as I’m sure it’ll be good. They could end up being more than just “ol’ reliable,” but if that ends up happening, I wouldn’t complain.

Armand's little celebratory smirk after Daniel said the line has been rotating in my brain since Saturday

i've been thinking about that infamous Alice theory, still doesn't make any sense to me. there has to be documentation? Daniel is a known person, i'm just ??? also, why bother and go for such drastic measures? why change one memory for the another, and not just erase it like the attack?

already wrote about the 2×02 flashback above, but have more thoughts. it's not just a random recollection. In it, Armand violates Daniel's mind, just like Louis in the present.

Armand or Louis? (they're working together now, remember?) uses this technique again to unsettle and control Daniel, so the interview flows in its intended direction. basically pulled the rug under Daniel's feel to reinforce Louis' attack. total disorientation, submission, and defeat. Louis calls him 'Danny', he's still there, their boy. but it's also a reminder. they had literally discussed this at the end of 2×01 episode. nice job boys, 1-1

in s1, the flashback was also frightening and disorienting, but the reasoning behind it felt a bit different, leaning towards distraction (also control). Personally, i think that Armand had used distraction through s1, but ended the season with intimidation.

For example: Armand drops the 'electronic mailbox', leads Dan to the library, hits with 'we suggest' instead of I or he, then interrupts Daniel's investigation with music/prayer. what happens next? Daniel's focus is no longer on Claudia's diaries, he's distracted by Rashid. especially by Armand's misstep? 'electronic mailbox'.

after s1 70s flashback, Daniel gets so agitated by this sudden memory he's not sure if it's real or just a dream, he can barely focus on Louis. instead, yep, he's distracted by Rashid and the unsteady ground that is his past. perfect, the interview is disrupted! Armand even has his little demonstration, walking in front of the sun with Dr. Fareed (love how Armand checks on Daniel to make sure he saw it, extra), teasing Dan with the phone call. yes, look at me! Louis is the one to pull Dan's attention back to the interview. (Armand acted alone?)

Armand had to change tactics since he got unveiled. besides, distraction isn't effective, it just simply doesn't work for long. it slows the process and fuels Daniel even more. not saying that aggression will, that man is beyond help. from the teasers we know that Daniel is clearly aware of the situation 'to get out of there alive', and also begs Louis to help him remember what had happened to them in the 70s 'for me' yet another danlou parallel 😭

Louis follows. notice how Armand doesn't say a word after that? his job is done. for now. fishing rod in the head. Daniel disrespects and aggressively violates Louis' boundaries. He mocks Louis' memories and his will to protect them. Understandably, Louis lashes back. Both times, Armand interferes (because he saves Louis from himself). This time Louis even haunts Daniel with a 70s flashback, because as we know, it was a very traumatic moment of Daniel's life. And the fact that he doesn't remember it, makes it even more frightening and upsetting.

I don't think it was about devil's minion, or Alice. Just the most pain inducing moments of Daniel's life. These two keep digging fingers into each other's wounds, almost like s- *gunshot*

Agreed! Murder Drones is one of those shows that has massive potential to give insight into a lot of these questions and more, making at least another season or two with answering these.

I think there’s going to be another season, they just want to surprise us. Liam did say at Glitch X that Season 1 was just them figuring out how they wanted the show to go and the vibe they wanted for it, meaning if there is a next season it’ll be more on par with these last 3 episodes and won’t be announced until Season 1 EPS 8 is done or Glitch X this year. They did the same when we asked if Thad and Lizzy would show up again, and they said no, they would be happy back in the colony, which if the characters left, including Lizzy and Thad leave the planet when Copper 9 is destroyed, thinking Uzis dead, then that was mislead us, making us think we wouldn’t get more of them.

Also a lot of the background characters had cool designs never to be brought up again or explored, as well as a lot of our main cast having very minimal character development, like J and V or having it go too fast. And we need to see more character relationships like how Uzi and N actually are now that they start “hanging out”, Lizzy and Thad expanding what they are and how they grow and act around each other, Khans character development being explored more as well as his relationship with N growing now that he is “dating” his daughter and may have lost her. J character development and how she grows outside of Tessa and JCJENSON, her insecurities being shown of needing to be perfect like in the merch teaser. V and N friendship development. Nori having a reunion with Khan. CYNs old personality. The truth of JCJENSON and the gala. What’s with the other planets and status of humanity, what the solver wants and more!

Like listed above there’s so much, and I feel like dropping this show with 1 season with more questions than answers is not bittersweet, just slightly disappointing and underwhelming. Imagine growing with characters throughout a show, to only have one season of unfinished stories and character development, where the characters all perish at the end after getting attached, never seeing the end. That’s an unfinished story, and while some people may like bad endings and sometimes they are done well, I just don’t think it fits very well with the characters we’ve met in MD, unless the solver really is just unstoppable and there is no weakness to it, which everything has a weakness, known or not, and that can be expanded on too.

Unless there was a falling out between Glitch and/or Liam in the show making, which I doubt. I see no reason we wouldn’t get another season or two at some point. Don’t give up hope guys! Keep letting Liam and Glitch know that we love the show and want to see more of these great characters story and personalities be told!

KINNPORSCHE EP 9 (Spoilers, duh)

I have two hot takes about this ep, one about Kinn and one about Vegas. I’ll tackle Vegas first.

I still think Vegas is a slimy bastard for sure (arguably he’s better than Tawan…but I digress). But I don’t know why, maybe after last ep where Kinn made it so incredibly clear to everyone but especially Vegas that when it came to Porsche he was Not to be Fucked Around With At All, but I don’t think Vegas is going after Porsche anymore. Not like that, anyways. He’s not doing it to get on Kinn’s nerves or whatever, Kinn (and by extension the minor family) have bigger fish to fry thanks to one Mr. Tawan. Despite all the shit he’s pulled, he thinks Porsche might still be on his side. And he’s desperate to have someone on his side (other than Macau). When he asks Porsche to run away, it’s because for once they’re on the same side. He’s not seducing Porsche anymore, he just wants someone he can trust on his side. Weirdly enough, Vegas’ trust in Porsche proves his innocence completely, Vegas is so slimy that he’d never trust anyone who didn’t deserve it fully. Vegas’ trust implies Porsche’s innocence.

Now to Kinn. I’ve read a couple of theories, and I’m inclined to agree with them. Not because Kinn is our protagonist and we want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but because that’s what he’s proven himself to be like. When Kinn truly stops trusting someone, it shows in his anger. He wasn’t angry at Porsche. Not one time. Not when he showed up after tailing them, and not when Tawan kept accusing him. He was cold, he was distant, but he was calm. I think he wants Tawan to think that he doesn’t trust Porsche and trusts him instead, to get him to spill. But in order to do that he needed to lock Porsche away. And it’s not just for Tawan, it’s also for whoever the mole in the house is. Trick them into letting their guard down.

Now maybe he could’ve told Porsche about this plan (and maybe we’ll find out that he has, and Porsche was just acting for Tawan), but I think he didn’t tell Porsche anything bc he was worried Porsche would slip up somewhere and drop the act accidentally. Unfortunately, not telling Porsche once again shows perhaps his lack of trust in Porsche to trust Kinn (if that makes any sense???). Either way I think Kinn knows Porsche is innocent. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he suggested to Vegas to take him away (altho the next weeks teaser would suggest otherwise). Porsche has never given Kinn a reason not to trust him, why would Kinn have doubt in his man planted by his snake of an ex, the person he trusts the least?? At least that’s what I’m hoping for.

Limited Life mechanics breakdown: session lengths and timer desync

I don't think I've seen anyone mention these things yet, but by looking at the final timers at the end of everyone's Limited Life episodes, they all end near a :30 minute marker, not an hour, meaning that during the first session only 2.5 hours passed in-game. The creators have mentioned 3 hour sessions recording this series, but looking at the end of everyone's episodes, the timers indicate that not all of that is spent in-game.

Additionally, the visuals and function of the time mechanic struck me as very reminiscent of Grian (and Scar and Joel's) 100 Hours Hardcore series mechanics from last year, and if that's the case, there are some slight ramifications for how the timers work in-game.

(a lot of) Thoughts on how I arrived at those conclusions and what they might mean for the series are under the cut, but the summary is this:

If this week's 2.5 hr game time isn't a one-off, the 24 hour timer would be spread out to last 1.6 additional sessions compared to if there was 3 hours in-game time, meaning the series will likely last a bit longer than the estimates I've seen on my dash. Additionally, player countdown clocks have started to and will likely continue to experience slight desynchronization from one another because the timer mechanic is stored per-player, only counting between their login/logout times.

To the first point, what does it mean that we had only 2.5 hours pass in game in the first session, and what's the impact of that?

We can't discount the possibility that 2.5 hours was a session one exclusive (i.e. all future sessions will spend 3 hours in-game). There's a benefits for this: mainly to allow for troubleshooting the new mechanic, but possibly also to offset the player timer by a half hour to add tension and time for people who are about to drop from one color to the next (ex. Skizz has 30 mins at the top of next session to prep before he turns yellow)

But it might be a simpler conclusion to adjust the 3-hour figure that the creators have mentioned. Sessions are 3 hours, but 30 mins of that time could be spent out of game. The ccs have mentioned they take a break during their sessions, and they might chat after? During someone's outro there was a chat message in game saying to hop in Discord. Either way, its reasonable to guess that 2.5 hours in-game may remain constant for this series, and may have been the case for previous series as well. I feel very weird speculating about the actual recording processes of the real people making this series, so assuming this is true I'm moving on to what it would mean for what content we will get.

If having 2.5 hours of in game time remains constant for the season instead of 3, the theoretical max # of sessions that we could have increases. A player could last 8 weeks max with draining only 3 hours per week. But with the same 24 hours divided into 2.5 hour in-game sessions, a player could survive an extra 1.6 sessions, or a total of 9 full weeks and an extra 1.5 hour session/extension.

I'm sure we won't get to ten weeks, and I don't even think we'll get to nine, but it's not impossible and it depends on how players end up using the mechanics available to them. Strong or aggressive players who take time from others and protect their own could theoretically live for longer than 24 hours total in game time, but knowing this group of clowns, (three boogieman rerolls in session 1? 9 deaths?) we've got 7-8 sessions max. I've gotten off track to game theorizing, but basically, we can slightly increase our estimates for how long this series will last if they continue to only spend 2.5 hours in game per week.

Okay, but what am I talking about with timer desync?

When Grian first posted his teaser on Instagram, I noticed that the red color and clock ticking appeared to use the same UI as the 100 Hours in Hardcore series he started last year, and the similarity was much more clear with the Limited Life ep 1 release. But because of the way the clocks worked in the hardcore series (counting only when the player was online), I was curious about timer synchronicity on limlife.

My prediction was this: the timer mechanic from 100 hours is the basis of limlife's timers, meaning that time is stored per-player, and different login/logout times are going to offset people's times from one another

I figured the best way to check would be to find a moment from late in different players' episodes where two players meet, presumably after the session break (logging out would desync timers if applicable). So I lined Pearl and Cleo's videos next to each other to find this:

:13:29 and :13:37. These screenshots are synced within a second of the same audio cue (Pearl exclaiming "Cleo!") but their timers are 8 seconds apart.

What's going on? Presumably, Grian did grab the same base mechanics that made the code tick in the 100 hours in Hardcore world from last year (similar time mechanic, he even says in that series that they used the same server). With that in mind, the way timers are currently handled in the limlife series appears to be the following:

At the top of session 1, a command was executed to start a timer on every player for 24 hours. That timer becomes that player's timer, and will continue to run as long as they are on the server. When players log out, they are not present, and their time will not be updated. All timers would have been in sync from the start until the first break, from which we start to see the discrepancies above. This is still a reasonable way to handle the mechanic, considering that the 100 hours code which is already written is tied to the player, and is likely easier to modify than rewrite. When a player dies, is killed, or gets a kill, the code can change the time attached to that player directly and give them the update.

While this shouldn't cause major changes, it also means that unless something gets built into the server to equalize player timers, or unless the code is rewritten to hold a main timer in the server which is modified per-player, we're likely gonna start to see people's timers drifting and desynchronizing much futher than a few seconds as they log at different times. We can already see it beginning with Pearl and Cleo's videos above. This system might run into issues if a player has to miss a session, as they would have to be manually lowered to balance their time, or else they'd be 2.5 hours ahead of the rest. Though maybe they won't adjust if sessions are missed, because a player with extra hours is very tempting bait for a boogeyman or a desperate red.

In proposing a change, I would suggest the server keep general time, and players store a "modifier" on their personal time. Example: Imagine 4 hours of in game time have passed and Impulse has died once. His modifier is -1 hour, so the code would call the server time (20 hours left) and his modifier to produce his time remaining (19 hours). This would solve the issues of desync from differing login/logout times, needing to skip a session or internet issues forcing a disconnect.

It's possible that an adjustment is made in the future weeks, but that would require the time discrepancies being noticed, and it actually being deemed a thing worth adjusting. I say this with fondness, but I'm not sure Grian, who's forgotten to change the server difficulty for multiple (every?) series will notice this, and quite honestly the code they have should work just fine for this group. They are all incentivized to be on the server with their clocks ticking to make content, so no one's going to cheat by logging out to save time. And considering the end of Etho's video showing the game chat, it seems like no one even logged out until at least :29 so player times are going to be close enough to in-sync, even if the numbers aren't exactly aligned.

The above analysis kind of assumes that timer desync is a problem, not a feature or a tolerable side-effect, which it very well could be. I only really see this becoming a point of contention if any players, but especially the last players standing should have their timers expire at the same time, but end up being displaced by a few minutes because one of them had logged out faster the days before. I'm personally holding out hope that the last people standing are allies who can lay down their weapons and run out of time together, but with the desync they don't have the option to go out at the same time unless they realign by coincidence.

At the end of the day though, while these guys are making content for us as an audience, they're also just having fun playing a game, and it doesn't really matter if it's perfect or not. I am gonna be delighted watching this series unfold in the hands of these talented folks over the next 6-8 weeks!
