TW: Long, triggering rant about programming and RAMCOA.

Fuck “transprogrammers”. I am not referring to transgender programmers— but rather people that proclaim they can and want to conduct “RAMCOA” onto people. It’s either a sick mockery, or the dark evil of actually knowing how to non-consensually and sadistically harm someone and having the desire to do so.

Do you actually know what it’s like, to go through what you promote? I was split with no awareness of who or where I was. All that existed was a sinking fear, and the primal urge to fight for my life.

This person force switched me out to sexually abuse me in unfathomably sadistic ways that will scar me forever. It took me 5 years to even be able to TYPE general concepts of what I was put through.

They targeted each alter in my system individually, and if we tried to leave, they threatened to harm children and have us committed to a hospital against our will. They installed cues in me, so if I hear certain phrases, I go catatonic (unable to move) and I’m helpless. The stress overwhelmed my nervous system to the point I lost my vision for periods of time and hallucinated. I was reduced to LESS than nothing, and no amount of begging made it stop. There was no end in sight, and I tried to end myself to no avail to make it stop.

To the sick fucks out there that push this, I genuinely hope you get help for not being able to process your own trauma. You feel comfort in what you know. You think being big and bad will prevent you from getting harmed again. You will be stuck in this adrenaline-seeking cycle until you realize you’re worth healing.

And I hate that parts of my system feel called back to this— the most sadistic mind fuckery that could ever be experienced. It permanently changes your brain. I’ve TRIED to understand these people, but it isn’t clicking. I think I am done trying.

Debunking Alter Programming

RAMCOA/OEA, when it comes to Alter Programming, is a conspiracy designed to prey upon some of the most vulnerable people.

The idea that these things are caused by intentional design is a form of pareidolia. People believe there must be a meaning to something that is, in truth, meaningless. The belief in an intentional design of things that seem too complex is often connected to religious and especially Christian beliefs. These conspiracists often happen to be Christian and weave their religion into their conspiracy.

The conviction that this all holds a special meaning and is a sign of having been forced to have these hierarchies is simply and plainly religious. Many conspiracy theories rely on the idea that natural formations, behaviors, events, and similar phenomena have some deeper meaning and some power that is orchestrating them. RAMCOA and specifically alter programming is no different.

It is a conspiracy made to explain what is already understood to be a natural phenomenon.

Like hot damn, the literature on RAMCOA is functionally designed to convince pretty much anyone that they've experienced trauma-based mind control. You get the usual lists full of vague and nonspecific symptoms (do you feel anxiety? depression? weird aches and pains?) combined with descriptions of alleged TBMC practices and forms of alter programming that will paint some pretty vivid pictures in your mind. You get a person who's read that shit and strongly suspects they're a RAMCOA victim, and you bet your ass they're going to start "remembering" all kinds of shit.

genuine question. if RAMCOA doesn't exist, why do victims say it does? is it a form of trying to "justify" what they experienced? or trying to explain their abuse with the limited knowledge they have? (victims here meaning, like, random no-names; not the people publicly benefitting from the concept of RAMCOA like book authors and sleazy psychologists and stuff)

Oftentimes because they were actively coached to believe in it. If I run a cult, and I regularly beat my cult members, I would constantly tell them they were posessed by demons that made them evil, and that's why they *deserve* to be beaten. It is gaslighting combined with religious fervor.

A warning for trauma survivors looking for online support

You may have come across the acronym "RAMCOA", which stands for "ritual abuse, mind control, and organized abuse."

If you search the Internet for RAMCOA, you might come across a result like this:

If you click the link, you'll be taken to a site that briefly describes what RAMCOA supposedly is, with content like:

MC - Mind Control. A shortened form of TBMC, standing for Torture Based Mind Control. MC is also known as programming, where victims are repeatedly tortured starting at a very young age to intentionally cause a system of dissociated parts that function perfectly to suit the abusers' needs.

alpha : a base program, one of the very first implemented. it trains the victim's mind to accept every order given by handlers willingly. parts with alpha programming will often have no will of their own, and very little personality outside of following orders.

aiw : alice in wonderland. typically split into 3 different sections : black alice, white alice, and crazy alice. ideally, a system scripted with aiw would have all three. white alice makes sure the system forgets the trauma, black alice makes the system feel like theyll be a danger to others if they remember the trauma, and crazy alice makes the system think theyre making it up or going insane if they ever remember it.

Literally all of this comes from a conspiracy theory - specifically, the Project Monarch alter programming conspiracy. It was developed and pushed by far right conspiracy theorists. Most of what people run into specifically traces back to Fritz Springmeier, a man who claimed in the 90's that the fight for gay rights was part of a plot to enthrone the antichrist in the year 2000. The Project Monarch conspiracy theory was always adjacent to the Satanic Panic, if not a somewhat niche part of it. If you start checking citations, you will find many of these people citing Svali, a conspiracy theorist who gets a lot of her material from Springmeier. (Example 1, example 2.)

This is no accident. The term RAMCOA was created by the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), which was created by and for psychologists who believed in the myths promoted during the Satanic Panic.

The RA part comes from "satanic ritual abuse," which was coined by Dr. Lawrence Pazder of Michelle Remembers (cw for descriptions of horrible abuses) fame. Lawrence Pazder is the man who effectively started the Satanic Panic. It cannot be overstated that Pazder, now a known malpractitioner, was considered the expert on ritual abuse during this time.

The MC part comes from "trauma-based mind control," which was coined to refer to the alleged abuses inflicted in Project Monarch. Parts of this conspiracy theory that can't be traced back to Fritz Springmeier can usually be traced back to Cathy O'Brien and Mark Phillips, two other (really racist) conspiracy theorists.

Ultimately, the entire conspiracy theory is constructed from tropes that go back to The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion (a known antisemitic hoax), blood libel, and early modern witch panic.

Searching the Internet for RAMCOA resources, ritual abuse, or trauma-based mind control will always bring you to conspiracy theorists.

(Also, the term OEA, which stands for "organized extreme abuse," will lead you to conspiracy theorists as well.)

So yeah, if you're looking for support, be very wary of this stuff. It will absolutely not help you heal; just the opposite.

It's crazy how I went from religious conspiracy circles (mostly irl being raised in a cult but also online with my dad making me watch Prager U and making religious accounts online) to hardcore atheistic beliefs- to the skeptic community that was actually just secular conspiracy theorists- to then skepticism of them- to then ANOTHER conspiracy group when I realized I had been trafficked and at the same time went from twitchpol communities directly into a cult ran by a YouTuber who would then abuse me until I was almost 21- to now being again a skeptic and strong anti-consoirscy person who's very invested in tackling intense subjects.

All of this is to say if you grow up in a cult or surrounded by conspiracy it doesn't make you more likely to identify it- it makes you vulnerable. Why do you think so many genuine cult and trafficking survivors fall into conspiracies like SRA and Alter Programming/Project Monarch? Why do the supposed "Skeptics" who rejected intensive religious ideas tumble their way into hardcore conspiracy? It's because they never worked through their original inclinations to extremism. Even I still have many blind areas for this stuff. It's something I will need to keep working on for the rest of my life because my childhood means my baseline is anything but normal.

Being surrounded by conspiracy and coercive control for your childhood while you're forming a personality and sense of self will unsurprisingly change how you function compared to a normal person.

This is why I have just as many issues with people who are antitheist as people who are hardcore Bible thumpers driven by conspiracy.

I am proudly a pagan, I'm a strict polytheist, but I also hold the understanding of reality that I have no way to prove my beliefs and that it could very easily be wrong. Spirituality can be held in healthy ways. Atheism also can be incredibly healthy. But any attempts to control others and their beliefs is a form of harm.

how much comprehension do your littles, syskids, whatever have of the world? even your normal parts? this is a step that i don't hear talked about a lot so... i am making a post about it.

in any system setting, it can be easy to forget that some alters may have very limited and warped worldviews (including hosts), but especially littles and other small parts. not understanding the world around you because of specialisation can make fronting and living terrifying. this can result in negative interactions, miscommunication and fights.

if you, as a child, had never seen a car before, or a dog, then seeing them for the first time unprepared can be super scary. on the converse, learning about new things can be enriching/freeing for alters who might have been living with constant fear based on false assumptions or things that abusers said.

moving to an oea/ramcoa/whatever - do you know how easy it is to convince a vulnerable part with limited/no life experience that you are all powerful?

my favourite example of this is the weather app. my abusers would tell parts that they were gods and all powerful and could change the weather and predict it, days before it happened. alters would be terrified when it rained because they were convinced it was an intentional sign or punishment.

this is not magic. its just deception. they didnt know about the weather app or the news, meterologists, or anything. by providing more information to parts, you can provide new context to their life experiences

same with issues such as going to school/work (do people know about the trains/buses/your car? are they scared of the road? do they know where you're going in the morning?), being sick (do people know that many people will recover from illnesses?) or trying new foods

a lot of the time, alters just dont know. and thats not their fault. and its a good place to start.
