Frankly I find the argument that AI makes art “more accessible” to disabled people insulting and infantilizing and a way for able-bodied people to use disabled people as a prop to explain why they should be able to cheat but we’re not ready for that conversation.

Nobody gives a shit about disabled people when we can’t work or when we are denied access from buildings or when we’re begging people to just wear a goddamn mask so you won’t kill us/make our conditions worse, but as soon as AI comes into the conversation all of a sudden people are INSISTING you are ableist and hate disabled people if you think the art stealing- false information spreading-earth killing-machine might be bad actually.

my favourite amputee & prosthetic resources

disclaimer: i am not an amputee or limb different person in any way. this is just a short post on resources from amputees and limb different people that i find very interesting and educational. if you find issue with this post or the links here, please tell me!

i mostly use these resources for designing osc gijinkas and for imagining those gijinkas in various situations as with any other character (e.g. since arm prosthetics are quite difficult to use, i like to learn about how exactly a character born without arms might prefer to use their feet for most activities). you can use these resources just to learn for the sake of learning. you can use them for making ocs. you can use them for gijinkas. whatever you like, i just hope this can be helpful :)

the channel is almost entirely in French but the visuals work just fine (and many videos on here have english captions, and iirc some are spoken in english too). this is super useful if you wanna learn more about people with a total lack of arms, especially because she doesn't have any arms from the very Top of her shoulders. she doesn't use prosthetics (can't, she doesn't have enough residual limb) and was born this way which gives a really interesting insight into how people without arms live daily life.

Would there be any interest in commissions? Y'know what, I think maybe I don't need any more Murderbot books. I think maybe ending things here is fucking perfect and as much as I love Wells's writing I'm genuinely not sure it can get better for me.

Like, so much of the books are about MB learning how to be a person, about becoming okay with being a complete individual with everything it entails. The first thing it does once it's actually allowed to decide on its own is it runs away from it all (admittedly to go on a mission to confirm some things about its past, because it genuinely just wants to be *good*). It shoves all its emotions away as much as it's able to. Then shit happens, and it makes its first friends, makes decisions based on these friendships, goes through a lot of emotionally intense situations...

And we get to this point here. MB having zero doubts about going with ART says a lot about its relationship with ART, but it also says a lot about its relationship with its humans - it knows that wherever it goes, when it comes back, the humans will still be there. Its humans actively acknowledge its struggles with being a now-free SecUnit and MB is willing to entertain the discussions to an extent and share information about its deeply personal experiences. Hell, System Collapse ends with MB admitting it might be somewhat broken, but that's okay as long as it can keep doing its job, and agreeing to basically do counselling - this is the guy what would rewatch its favourite TV show again and again in order to avoid acknowledging it even had Emotions a couple books back.

Reading this, I know that MB will be okay. It has hopes and goals and genuinely believes in itself and it has an amazing support system that its willing to lean on for the first time in its life. I'm convinced it'll go on to do great things with ART. And that's really the only thing I need to know.

what's the point of adopts? couldn't i just make my own character based off of the adopt for free? i know you want to sell your drawings, but wouldnt commissions be better since you're offering something knowing you'll actually get something out of it? this isn't anon hate, im genuinely curious

im going to pretend to try and take this in good faith now. long answer; i like making designs but i dont want to keep them and its better i give it a chance of having a home thatll use it rather than rotting in my files forever. i like doing adopts over commissions because its something i get to have complete control over and complete artistic freedom over, its also less communication which is difficult for me 1 on 1. I want to make the things i want to make and i hope someday people will support me entirely based on that, rather than feeling like i have to take everything everyone else wants into consideration and make things for other people. i create for me, i want to only create for me, that is my goal. most of my life my art has always been a commodity for other people (exactly how youre treating it rn btw) rather than an genuine expression of my artistic desires. if you really want to rip my designs go for it but it wont ever mean to you what it meant to me while making it and that alone keeps me confident in what i do. i finally have a space were i can express myself again and im still feeling it out to see what i like doing best. im going to take my sweet time and make whatever i want to make. short answer: i do what i want

Is water speech exclusive to aquatic taurs or can any human use it as long as they can stay underwater?

Oh, anyone can learn Waterspeak, absolutely! It’s just a matter of “do I need this in my life?” Spells are very tricky to learn and take a lot of practice to master, so unless you use it in your life a lot, most people don’t bother. It’s kinda like how almost anyone can learn to pick locks or do a one-foot spin on ice skates, a lot of us just don’t see a need to learn ^^’

Worry not, if a terrestrial human (taur or not) had an extended stay underwater but didn’t know how to cast Waterspeak, they would likely have a merm cast Waterspeak on them, or perhaps have other accommodations to account for the acoustics issue (nevermind the breathing issue, pressure issue, etc.).
