"On the Elvenking's head was a crown of berries and leaves, for the autumn was come again. In the spring her wore a crown of woodland flowers."
I started drawing this a while ago when Spring Flowers were actually blooming in the garden, even though we are well near summer now. Enjoy!

So I rewatched the entire Hobbit trilogy (extended editions, of course), and I'm not sure if this is present in the book, but in the movies, the fight over the White Gems of Lasgalen really does feel like it was pulled straight from the Silmarillion.
For those who haven't seen the movies: both Thorin and Thranduil claim heirloom rights to the White Gems of Lasgalen, and both are willing to fight, bleed, and die for those rights.
Thranduil claims the gems are rightfully his because they belonged to a dead loved one (his wife), as well as basically accusing the dwarves of stealing them.
Thorin claims the gems are rightfully his because they're a part of Thror's (his grandfather's) treasure hoard, which Thorin claims absolute inheritance rights to. We also know that the dwarves disagree with the idea that the White Gems were stolen at all. But his decision is also clearly being influenced by the fact that Thranduil has unarguably hurt his people in the past (by denying them aid when Erebor fell).
And it's kind of impossible not to see this as a reference to the debate between the Feanorians and Elwing (or Dior) about who rightfully owns the Silmaril. Exchange Thranduil's wife for Feanor, Thror for Thingol, and "refusing to provide aid" for "the kinslayings," and it's easy to imagine them having the exact same arguments about who owns what.
Given this comparison, two things come to mind. First, the movie doesn't seem to approve of either Thorin or Thranduil's choices here. Thorin's inability to compromise by giving Thranduil the gems in return for the elves' aid is critiqued by Balin and Bard seems aghast that Thranduil is willing to go to war over gems. Both Thranduil and Thorin defend their choices by citing their heirloom rights. And they're both portrayed as heroic during other parts of the movies (Thranduil bringing aid for Bard's people, Thorin eventually realizing that he was wrong to value gold so highly), but the trilogy wants us to know that the choice to fight and kill for these gems is, on both sides, a bad one.
The other thing that comes to mind is Elrond. In the first movie, Thorin's company finds an old sword, and when Elrond examines it, he reveals that it belonged to Turgon. The sword is pretty clearly an heirloom of Elrond's house. And Elrond what does Elrond do? He willingly gives it to Gandalf with the hope that it'll serve Gandalf well, and it's really interesting to compare his behavior there with Thorin and Thranduil's stubborn possessiveness. And given what Elrond lived through because of the Silmaril, that choice makes a lot of sense. Honestly 10/10 Elrond characterization we love to see it.

My Incorrect Universe #97
*At Avengers HQ*
Loki: I don’t think we can mansplain, manipulate, or malewife our way out of it this time.
Bucky, cracking his knuckles: manslaughter it is.
Me, spritzing them with a water spray bottle: hey! no! bad!
*meanwhile in Mirkwood*
Me: I can't believe you tried to assassinate Thorin!
Thranduil: Well, 'assassinate' implies it was politically motivated. I tried killing him because he is a dick, so technically I tried to murder him
Me: ohhhh
Elrond, his blood pressure rising: THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT ANY BETTER-
*me whenever Loki and Bucky misbehave*:

Silvans are used to fighting 360 degrees.
Because they move through the trees, fly through the air (curtesy of flinging themselves from one branch to the another) they know damn well that an attack can appear from all angles.
This results in their fighting style having more flips and and other such movements in order to be more aerodynamic.
Meanwhile the noldor, sindar, etc are more used to ground based combat because they usually fight in open fields and even of they are in a forest they stay on the ground.
What i’m saying is that the first time a silvan flips over and slams their sword down on a sindar/noldor in a sparing match, they have to take a second to go wtf.

Making you all look at this, I spent two days on these...
A while back I had a dream that there was a fan-made Hobbit film (encompassing all three of the Peter Jackson ones), traditionally animated and all anthros. The plot was mostly the same (except for one big detail but we’re getting there), but had some extra scenes - Dis saying goodbye to her brother and sons, discussing why protecting Ori was definitely cultural even though he was bigger and stronger than everyone else in the Company, and Gandalf hinted at being a unicorn. The ponies and other animals were just animals, but Radagast’s rabbits were anthros. All the elves were different breeds of deer, the humans were mostly dogs and other domestic farm animals, dwarves were a mixed bag but generally families were in the same type (but not all), and hobbits were small animals, pocket sized to heftable.
So they’re at Laketown and we finally get the big reveal that Smaug isn’t a Dragon but a Monster - everyone shuddered here. Bilbo gets in and sees - Benedict Cumberbatch with scales half-shedding off of him, and an overlaid image of a snake in a very wizardy outfit. He is killed when he chases Bilbo out of Erebor, and runs directly into Bifur, Fili, and Bard, who still shoots him with the arrow, because he wasn’t dying fast enough.
And that’s where the dream ended BUT I will write an ending.
Smaug was once one of the blue wizards, who became enamored with power and began transforming into a Monster like Sauron once was. He laid waste to Erebor for the Arkenstone, and destroyed Dale with magic.
Thorin does get Goldsickness, but Oin literally smacks him over the head until he stops being a dunce. Azog is killed by Fili and Kili, and Bolg is killed by Beorn (just a bear, but can get Really Big on command). Kili and Tauriel have a long talk and have a friendship before they have a romance. Thorin is a decent king, if not a bit gruff.
Bilbo still hides the ring, and on his 111th birthday visit to the Shire, the beans are spilled to sweet Frodo…
(I’ll draw the LOTR cast this way later if enough people like this ;3)

Book Bard/Book Thranduil is cute because it’s a muscled feisty warhawk having his way with a riddling forest creature. You could make Book Thranduil/Movie Bard work, but just barely, because in this case Bard wouldn’t have much immediate agency - and Thranduil would be much friendlier while also quietly seeing him as a pet, because Thranduil’s less of a man and more of a weird old fae here. Movie Thranduil/Movie Bard works much more seamlessly, because Bard’s a pretty open-ended character and Thranduil still has a lot of unexplored story. And Movie Thranduil/Book Bard would have great sex but they also might stab/strangle/covertly assassinate each other. That’s what happens when you, a queen (stone cold bitch) come across another queen (brave but self-aggrandizing bitch) and discuss how best to maximise your joint slay (destroy several bedrooms across two neighboring countries)

Any Lord of the Rings (LOTR)/Hobbit Fans?
Hey there! Happy almost Friday. 🥳
I just rewatched Lord of the Rings -- extended edition of course -- and it's still one of my favorite series ever. It also got my muse flowing in a different direction. 😂 Trust me, I still have plenty of Jackles and SPN stuff coming your way, now through February!
Now, I polled my lovely Patrons on this, and quite a few of them are interested in reading LOTR/Hobbit fanfiction from me in the future. But I'd also like to know what all of you think!
If not, it's TOTALLY fine. 💜 But if yes...
Tumblr media
If not, I may just make a separate blog for posting LOTR/Hobbit fanfiction when the mood strikes me... 🤔 (After posting on my Patreon first. 💖)

i put this in a fic so i might as well make it into a post too. this is NOT original, i should say, but it’s basically canon in my head that legolas’ mom died in the war of the last alliance (presumably fighting under oropher, who also perished then) cuz it’s just more narratively weighty than “some gundabad orcs killed her.” peter jackson mega fumbled with that one if you ask me. and i think if legolas were forbidden from going into that fight it would create a scrumptious parallel to gimli being forbidden from going on the quest to reclaim erebor with thorin. which is important and true because everything is about gimleaf. every single time without fail
