How I Have Been Run Over By The Bentley Going 90 In Central London What Feels Like 50 Times In The Last Two Weeks

I'm going to college about 4 hours away from my parents, and it's been really nice. They.. suck, to say the least. transphobic/homophobic ect, super traditional conservative catholic, racist, all of it. so i tried to move somewhere where I wouldn't have to think about them and I could be myself and do what I can to be happy. March 1st was the start of my spring break, which meant going home because the dorms close. I was already not excited, but I was prepared. the problem with being away from home is I forget just how bad they are. My optimism gets the better of me and I think maybe this time they'll be better. so I decided to not hide my septum piercing.

that was a mistake. it starts a whole fight where they say we know you're trans, you're actually a girl and you always will be, we have the bones argument, they think I'm being influenced by demons or something (if only they knew about crowley) because I want to change my name, and they tell me that going on t will completely ruin my body and give me cancer and other things. They're also mad about my dyed hair, septum, and general style, and say I'm setting a terrible example for my (5) younger siblings and make it a point to tell me just how much of a disappointment I am. I think I'm pretty cute and fun but y'know, whatever. very fun time. I lie so much, don't give them any more details about my identity, and say I'm not planning to go on t to save my ass. which is all on instinct which makes me feel worse because if I'm really trans I should be able to stand up for that, right? maybe I'm faking the dysphoria.

the next morning I wake up really sick, and spend the rest of the week sick and feeling like shit because I'm home and back in the same place and situation I was a year ago that I thought I escaped. at one point I pretty much lose my voice but also kind of get gender euphoria from it. it's weird.

On Friday it's time for me to drive back 4 hours to school, and I make it about 3/4 of the way when google maps takes me on a random gravel road and I crash my car, really crash my car, like sideways-in-a-ditch-windows-broken-crawling-up-out-the-door crash it in the middle of nowhere. (I was fully paying attention to the road, it was raining and super slick) I call my parents because I have no one else to call and I sit in a Subway for 3 hours while they drive to get my car. when they get there they're (understandably) really mad, and they tell me that I'm not mature enough to be going to school so far away and I need to get my shit together and stop depending on them. which. is probably true. but made me feel even more stupid about the fact that I crashed my car. I get back to school and I'm still Very Sick with no energy or motivation to do anything. So I've spent the last week trying to get better and honestly to do anything. it hasn't really worked. I'm a lot better health-wise (Not emotionally), still sick but I have a lot of work due, so I really need a push to get started

I don't know why I feel so numb towards the new Avatar announcement. Like I'm not excited for it. But I'm also not as devastated and pessimistic about it as a lot of people are about it.

Like yeah, Korra haters are crawling out of the mud and shit again, but they would've taken ANY excuse to hate on her. Like, even if it were all sunshines and rainbows in a post Korra world they would probably be going on about how she was a 'weak avatar with no accomplishments' or a Mary Sue or something like that.

I'm cautiously suspecting that Avatar Studios are going for a Kuruk-style story with Korra, where she was somehow defamed. It seems that the Avatar books were a sort of testing ground for them, as the 'Avatar's twin' plotline was also teased in the Roku book.

I understand why this upsets some people, as it gives Korra an ultimately unhappy life and leaves her as hated in-world. However, I don't think we should jump to conclusions of Bryke somehow wanting to 'destroy' Korra's character, just because they didn't give her a happy life. Characters like the aforementioned Kuruk, and fan favourite Toph Beifong didn't have 'happy endings' in the traditional sense, but that enhances their characters, in my opinion. Like yeah, it's tragic that sometimes storylines are sad- but that doesn't make them bad storylines.

Is it a bummer that Korra seemingly had a tragic life? Yeah. But also, she's the Avatar, and would inevitably face a lot of strife in her life- and not do things perfectly. Aang also faced difficulties and had problems in his adult life.

It also feels like there's a potential meta storyline going on there, potentially having the in world hate towards Korra tied to the IRL hate towards Korra. This isn't the first time Korra's character has been used for more meta-style commentary, as a lot of her character surrounded her trying to measure up to Aang, whilie also trying to be her own person- a potential coentary on what making a follow up to atla must've been like.

And also- we are JUMPING to conclusions over leaks and blurbs.

I think my main personal concerns with the Seven Havens lie with the fact that it feels like a soft reboot of sorts. With tlok, despite its technological advancements, which I did have issues with, we see very clearly how we got to point A to point B. The world Korra inhabits feels the same as the world Aang inhabits.

Seven Havens seems to have had a post apocalyptic vibe, where the world has changed drastically, reshaping the four nations into seven new 'havens' and changing the way the Avatar is percieved. It feels like a huge departure from the previous series - which could be fine- but also feels like waste.

The world of Avatar is so complex and has been built up through multiple series, books and comics. To have it reshaped completely feels like throwing out such a rich compendium of lore and stories.

It also worries me, as it likely throws away tlok's very imteresting work with politics. While tlok didn't always tackle the dissection if politics correctly, it at least had the courage to discuss these complex topics. Getting rid of the four nations will probably toss away a lot of these politocal effects of Korra's tenure as Avatar, for example- the democratisation of the Earth Kingdom.

Reading the atla comics (while the fandom loves to bitch and moan about them) is a satisfying experience, because I get to see the building blocks for Korra's time being set up- for example the creation of Republic City. However, my concern is that any future tlok comics will feel unimportant- due to the fact that the characters accomplishments will likely be undone several years later.

I also worry that they're going to try to 'depoliticise' the next show. Dismantling tloks' complex political climate is one alarm bell. Making the new avatar a young child, seemingly even younger than Aang, despite a good chunk of the fans being adults at this point, feels like its hinting towards making the show less complex and 'grown up'. Of course, a protagonist being a certain age doesn't necessarily mean the target audience is supposed to be that age too- however it does set a model of how the world will be mainly shown to us- through the eyes of a young child.

And while Avatar gave us a serious show for kids- atla being relatively deeper than most kids shows of its time, I don't know if Seven Havens will be able to replicate that perfect storm, especially with a lot of kids media nowadays being so heavily scrutinised and policed.

Also not really as hyped for the earthbending twins concept because I already have MY preferred set of earthbending twins. "Oh but one of them is the Avatar and-" don't care. Beifong twins my belovedst.

They should've somehow kept the naming scheme set by Poi & Ping and Wei & Wing it would've been funny.

Look, I love Twst and all, but I also think that Twst's writing quality has proven to be pretty inconsistent and is actually painfully mediocre most of the time.

When I sit down and really think about it, the main story has 3 books I actively dislike. That's basically half of the main story, seeing as book 7 is so darn long just by itself. Even if I minimize my own bias, there are just objectively bad narrative decisions made in many places, such as setting things up and not letting them get proper payoff later, obvious plot holes, or going for 100+ parts without allowing two major characters in the book to appear.

(I go into more detail about how I personally rank the books here. Here is also a graphical depiction of that ranking yes, I am breaking out the charts:)

Book 7 was especially egregious… It has its monstrous length as well as the tonal whiplash, inconsistent pacing, lack of urgency, and overexplanation of the dreams that take up a good 2/3 of the book. So much was happening and yet so little also happened.

(Here’s how I feel about the major story points in 7:)

In terms of events, I'd say they improved how they're organized over time. In the very early events, Twst failed to separate stories into Episodes like they do now, meaning you'd just get one long stream of story (ex: Beans Day II is 39 parts) instead of it being broken up into more easy-to-digest chunks (ex: GloMasq has 5 Episodes, each ranging from 15-19 parts). Hometown events also took on a predictable formula, with Episode 1 being the set-up to venture elsewhere, Episodes in the middle dedicated to exploring the area, and then Episode 5 having the crew resolve some minor issue. However, this doesn't always mean the pacing of events is good. For example, Stage in Playful Land Episode 3 has a paltry 11 parts whereas Episode 2 has 21, which is almost DOUBLE the length of Episode 3.

Many events have nothing of real importance or excitement happening (Tsumsted Wonderland, Lost in the Books, Master Chefs/Culinary Crucibles, Sam's New Year Sales, etc.) or mainly involve eating food and souvenir shopping (looking at you, hometowns). The events that are good do something unique and does it well (or at least is funny) OR actually advances a character's development/growth. Because so many Twst events are middle-of-the-road, it makes the few solidly written events (like Glorious Masquerade) stand out. We remember these solid instances more strongly as a result, which then projects over the other events (which were mid) and boosts them in our minds.

(Here’s where the events stand relative to one another:)

Vignettes have more liberty with character writing because most of them are not canon to the main story. Sometimes characters regress into their old ways (Epel going back to his pre-book 5 personality is pretty guilty of this), but that's usually fine since I treat vignettes as essentially "what ifs" or transitive periods of growth between major story beats. I like that vignettes are oftentimes very mundane and can take their time to explore the unique relationships and dynamics between the boys. It often feels like so much other stuff is happening that we don't get to slow down and just... enjoy the boys as they are.

Looking at the overall trend lines, it unfortunately looks like Twst is, as I suspected, hovering around the “could be better” to “okay” range in most cases. When Twst does well, it’s great. (To this day, I still believe GloMasq was peak for Twst and no event since had topped it.) When Twst fumbles, it fumbles HARD. (Playful Land and book 2 infamously have many plot holes.) But when Twst is mid, it’s… well, absolutely unremarkable 😭

I think the issue for me is that Twst tries to be ambitious with its stories but has limited success in executing those stories. Maybe it’s the fault of limited budget or assets (as a mobile title and not a console title), maybe the writers just aren’t that skilled, maybe it’s a time constraint or not a lot of research done, whatever.

TADC Episode 6 Predictions! + Why I Think Bunnydoll COULD Become Canon (Some Episode 4 Spoilers)

According to my calculations, we can expect Episode 6 to release on one of the following dates:

I think most likely it would be on May 2nd. But first let me explain how I go these dates.

Episode 2 of TADC released 5 weeks after Episode 7 of Murder Drones. And Episode 3 of TADC released 6 weeks after the Murder Drones finale. However, Episode 4 released 10 weeks after Episode 3. So, what I did was - for Episode 5 - count 5-10 weeks after Episode 4, and then I repeated the same for Episode 6.

Let's say, for example, an Episode released every 5 weeks, we would expect the trailer for Episode 5 to be released on January 3rd 2025. (I'm just gonna point out that the Netflix leak is false. I highly doubt we'd get an Episode 3 weeks after the last one, but if it were true, then the trailer for Episode 5 would release on Friday. The actual episode wouldn't come out on the 1st, anyway, because that's a Wednesday. Not a Friday.) Anyways, enough of me yapping about release dates.

The Adventure

We know that Episode 5's adventure is baseball, and set in a baseball stadium, because it was foreshadowed at the beginning of Episode 4 and in the full season announcement for TADC.

It is possible that the baseball adventure could be in Episode 6, because it was Ragatha AND Jax playing baseball (before Gangle joined in), but I highly doubt it because...

I think Episode 6 is another in-house adventure.

Why Do I Think This? + What Do I Think Will Actually Happen In the Episode?

I think this because of two reasons:

• I believe that Jax is going to be the cause of Ragatha's abstraction in Episode 6.

• Jax's key collection.

Killing off one of the main three and the motherly one of the group is a pretty good way to fuck everybody up.

"Probably not NPCs" so one of the humans, then.

I think the entire fandom can agree that the worst thing Jax will do he's probably gonna do it in his episode.

Coincidence? I think not.

My take on this entire thing is that Jax is going to cause Ragatha to abstract, and feel really bad about it. Like, I mean, come on.

Kinger won't abstract. He would've most likely already abstracted if he was going to.

Gangle, potentially, BUT she arrived after Jax, and she's most likely the one who has been in the circus for the least amount of time (aside from Pomni).

Pomni arrived, canonically, 4 days ago. I don't think it's possible to abstract that fast.

Zooble I really don't think will ever abstract. They're just too much of a chill guy for that (iykyk) /hi

Jax finds pleasure in bullying the others, even if he does care about them.

It's his way of coping with being trapped in the circus. And I think, even though he's an asshole, having to live with the fact that he abstracted the only person who seemed to genuinely care about him is torture in itself.

• In-house adventure

• Jax says "I want you DEAD!!!" to Ragatha.

• Ragatha disappears to her room.

• Jax goes into her room later on.

• Ragatha's abstracted.

The last 2 bullet points could even happen at the beginning of Episode 7. But I think it would make more sense for it all to be in Episode 6 because the 6th Episode in the last season of shows that have 9 Episode long seasons is the cursed Episode of that show. (Again, iykyk)

Why Do I Think Bunnydoll Could Become Canon?

Gooseworx also said that Queenie being a chess piece was just a design choice and that she wasn't Kinger's wife. Pretty funny that, huh?

I think this is overlooked. Romance IS canon, it's just not really shown. But I do genuinely believe that if any other ship had to become canon, it would be Bunnydoll. I think this because:

• They're always shown next to each other, or close to each other.

• Their bedrooms are right next to each other's. Just like Kinger and Queenie's (as well as Zooble and Gangle's if your an Abstraggedy fan). AND There's a Mannequin on either side of them.

E.g.

Mannequin, Jax, Ragatha, Mannequin.

• The nicknames he calls her, like hello?!

• Not to mention, whenever Ragatha expresses concern for Pomni, Jax either rolls his eyes or dismisses it.

• The whole premise of Episode 3 was about Husband and Wives. And I think it's pretty obvious that Queenie abstracted because her and Kinger got into an argument of some kind. So, Kinger abstracted Queenie, basically. Abstraction is also the circus' version of death. That would explain why Kinger looked so emotional when Baron Theodore was talking about killing Martha. Then, Martha said "You know how men are, always having the silliest priorities" and then Ragatha said "Don't I know it." whilst looking over at Jax Martha was talking about men, sure, but she was only really meaning her husband. A good writer such as Gooseworx doesn't include that for no reason. It's so goddamn obvious.

• They obviously have/have had something going on. From Jax saying "Why do you always make me out to be the bad guy?" during their fight at the beginning of Episode 4 . They've obviously had arguments like that before. They HEAVILY give exes that still have feelings for each other if they are exes.

All of that combined is - if it does happen - going to make Episode 6 a whole lot sadder. If they are exes, then one of 'em is probably gonna say that they still love them before Ragatha goes. And if they're just crushes, then they're probably gonna confess their love. Maybe even a hug...or a kiss. (Please, Gooseworx 🙏)

What about amateur porn or drawn erotica?

"amateur porn" is mostly a marketing term. it's meant to convey an idea that the porn is "homemade." but what stops people from just producing and marketing content that looks like that? especially since the idea has been pushed successfully that this is "more ethical porn." That is capitalism 101 - find a market you aren't capturing, make them a product they'll buy.

Even in the event it's not actually a production by a studio, you cannot verify that the porn you're watching is not a woman in an abusive relationship with a pimp. Boyfriends become pimps all the time. I think people have this idea that pimps are caricatures that pop out of the ground organically and fully formed, like some sort of mythological "bad guy." They don't stop to think that any opportunistic man (or woman) can become a pimp easily by just having access to a vulnerable woman. If someone enjoys porn, I think it's easy and worthwhile for them to have a disconnect between what "real abusers" do and what happens in a mythical porn setting that's more convenient to imagine. Yet do you need to look far to find examples of couples either A) joking how much money they could make if the wife would get on OF B) fighting because the husband wants the wife to get on OF to increase their revenue and she doesn't or C) just flat out admitting the wife is on OF and how much money it brings to the table? Besides the fact that in any one of these situations, this could be a covert marketing tactic by OF working with a couple, but even if it's not...why believe in scenario C that the husband is just some good guy and this is just some normal situation they fell into? The difference between scenario C and a pimp is what? They're being public about it by framing it a certain way? Well if that makes the public normalize it, why wouldn't "real" pimps just take that lead and do the same? My point is that there is no distinction: a man (whether it's a stranger, a friend, a dad, a husband, a boyfriend) exerting control over a woman by making her perform sexual acts for his own profit is a pimp, and I don't see why we should trust the way he frames it publicly, even if he says "I'm just a progressive husband who isn't jealous and loves that my wife shakes ass online for our family" or whatever gets people to go "cool! I will not questions this."

I'm sure you're asking in good faith anon, so this isn't directed specifically at you, but often when porn watchers are engaging in debate about porn, they'll start bringing up things like 'drawn erotica' as if it's some sort of gotcha. To me, it's so revealing how little they care about the arguments presented about the harms of the porn industry because yes, obviously drawn erotica is different than filming real humans having sex. It also reveals some sort of assumed bias that the person presenting objections to porn without appealing to religious morality or puritanical ideas about sex are somehow being deceitful. As if once "victimless porn" is brought up, they'll be unable to lie and their true nature will be revealed because they'll have some thinly veiled excuses about how drawn porn is obviously just as bad, because it's so sexy!

Drawings of people having sex or being naked and sexual are not above criticism in how they replicate harmful ideas about sex, sexuality, and gender - but they also aren't literal forms of violence against real people. So, it's irrelevant to the discussion of vulnerable people being pushed into porn to perform sexual acts against their will to a point of ruination. If someone feels comfortable continuing to watch and masturbate to porn after this has been explained to them, I don't see why any thoughts I have on erotica written or drawn or otherwise really matters. They can't be convinced through that avenue, clearly. They're probably willing to take whatever thread they can pull on to justify their consumption and to assuage their conscience over watching porn. That to me signifies a porn addiction, because even a casual viewer of porn who's never come across any anti-porn arguments knows they can live without porn, knows they don't need to defend it tooth and nail, and will not play stupid about comparisons to real people having sex on film/enacting violence on each other to erotic drawings.

At the end of the day, re: erotica, I would need to take each thing of media in it's own right and judge it for itself (like all film, books, and art). If it replicates pornographic images (i.e. the film language of porn that I take issue with vis-a-vis misogyny and violence against women), then yeah I'm going to have a problem with it. Not because it's sexual, but because it's content is disagreeable to me in that it's misogynistic. The scale for that is going to be sliding - the difference between a causal representation of unexamined gender dynamics and extremely violent CSAM is huge. I don't take issues with people finding, say, mild 18th century drawings titillating as much as I take issues with people acting entitled to violent images as if their masturbation depends on it and they're entitled to masturbate to whatever they want. Why? I masturbate to my imagination all the time. It's literally the easiest and most natural thing to do. If someone can't, it's probably because they're addicted to porn. If desperate poor women being pushed into drugs to continue making porn that becomes increasingly violent doesn't stop someone from watching porn, then maybe I should ask them to get angry at porn for altering their brain so badly. That's how desperate people sound when they have to scrape the bottom of the barrel in the face of facts about violence, poverty, suicide, and abuse.

While we're on the subject, one of my favourite random fun facts about oliver is that he works with a charity that takes care of firefighters' health. He pays for their workout equipment for example. He's by far not the one who earns the most on that show but he does so much, I think he doesn't get enough credit but so much shit for nothing, this fandom is so weird sometimes

this fandom is also made up of people who are all ages across the spectrum, which is part of what makes it problematic.

...it's hard for me. because I came out of the NCIS fandom (into the 911 fandom, I mean) as someone who joined in at 19, and fell in love with Michael Weatherly. I loved the show so much that I enjoyed the features on the DVD sets (yes, I'm showing my age, but shut up 😂), and I remember him specifically talking about how the show used to be a popular thing for people of a certain age (read: people in their 30s and 40s), but by s8, 9, 10, people had been watching the show so long that their kids had grown up on it, and now these 15, 16, 17 year-old's were into the show as well. 911 is nearing that area, and we also have the issue that those who create for the BoBs are often sharing stuff that suggests the two are together without actually confirming that it is in fact a fanon ship. so then you have young people entering the fandom, seeing what they're reading as queer storytelling that simply hasn't been acted upon, only for characters like Ana, Marisol, and Taylor to come into play and frustrate them. But at the time, that's okay, because they're all women.

Like, it's not lost one me why all shit went to hell in a few weeks back in April 2024. for an entire class of fans of this show, buddie was always the answer. even when Tommy was first brought in, it was celebrated because "holy fuck, Evan Buckley is canonically bisexual. they finally pulled the trigger!" further, as a fandom member (and especially if you're in the "other" fandom, as I so lovingly refer to them), this is a pawn you have to play. you have to have a bad hand that you lay down so that you can get in the door, right? someone you get to throw on the sword so that you can come out the other side and achieve the point of "we're here. we made it. now lets get down to real business".

except. people like LFJr. fans like Tommy. if you're someone like me, who was GA right up until then, you had no reading on buddie, never shipped it, but then came in with the pilot and said "let him stay, we like this one". OR, maybe you were already here, and you never shipped buddie. OR maybe you had shipped buddie at one point, but something about Tommy (or the toxicity of the other side, or a million other reasons), pulled you into this side of the fandom. either way, twice now, both GA and fandom have told TM & Co., we like Tommy and we like Lou, and we want him to stay. further, we like bucktommy, and we want to keep them. that's a big threat to those in the buddie fandom.

you know what's even harder to contend with?

when you're 19, and you think the love story you've been following for years isn't going to be given to you. I've said a lot recently, I was in the Ezria fandom. I did NOT like RG coming into that ship and disrupting things. (I didn't like any of the others either, but the spurious connection between both shows still makes me laugh). I was the 19 year old in 2012 when 2b aired for PLL that was like "Fuck you mean Ezria is gonna break up? that her parents won't support it?" let me be so for real too by telling you that I never watched PLL LESS than when they were broken up in seasons four and five.

I know I've taken this conversation so off the rails in a completely different direction 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but I say it all to make the point that, I understand the BoBs. but that doesn't mean I support what they've said or agree with it. I definitely don't agree with the bullying, because I was never a part of that crap when I was watching PLL. ship what you want, absolutely. but keep it to the fandom spaces. your posts don't belong on OS, RG, or LFJr's instagram/twitter/bluesky, etc posts, telling them that you don't like one of them or that you think they should die or that you're coming for them.

also, kids, as an elder(ish) millennial, let me remind you that what you put on the internet is out there forever (or at least until a server crashes 🤣). maybe think about that the next time you wanna tell an actor to go off themselves (or that you're going to do it or them).

--Looking back at the scenario meetings, is there anything that stands out in your memory?

Like the fact that there was a longer version where (series writer) Ookouchi Ichirou, the producers, and I all came up with ideas for what to do in the OVA and decided on it, only to realize it didn't fit into the time limit plan I came up with myself and so it was rejected (laughs). Of course Reki and Langa are the main characters so they're going to appear in the OVA but we really wanted to include them all... and that would be difficult to do in one story so we made it into an omnibus format.

--What do you want people to pay attention to in this OVA?

I'd like it if you could check which scenes were shown in the PV. For example, Reki and the others play karuta, but what kind of karuta is it? Who's playing against who? Will Langa, who is bad at reading and writing, be okay?! In the part with Sakurayashiki and Nanjo set in the past, what was their high school life like? What were their fights like back then? How developed are Nanjo's muscles?! Also, the unknown life of Kikuchi, which was kept top-secret in the main story, is revealed...!?! And more!

--Please tell us about what you remember when looking back on recording the voices for this OVA.

I was happy to see that Hatanaka Tasuku-san, who plays Reki, and Kobayashi Chiaki-san, who plays Langa, were still the same Reki and Langa even though several years had passed. I didn't feel any time had past... ∞(eternal) Friendship! It was also memorable how Koyasu Takehito-san, who plays Ainosuke, struggled with a certain scene. Look forward to finding out which scene it was! It had been a while since I last did the voice recording for SK8, and it brought back memories for me, making me feel like SK8 was back!

--What exactly is the theme for this OVA...?

Since it is an omnibus format, there is no overall theme, but they're each filling a gap that wasn't able to be seen in the main story.

--In order to get to know the characters more deeply before the OVA is released, are there any behind-the-scenes details that you haven't revealed yet (that you couldn't show in the first season of the TV series)?

The different headband Reki is wearing in the OVA PV is a souvenir present from his sister Koyomi. It's shaped like an akabeko with a tiger pattern... it's quite unique. Reki only wears it at home. Langa doesn't care about clothes, so he'll wear anything that's comfortable to move in, so he's wearing something strange this time. Please check out the OVA to find out the details☆

--For those who are rewatching the first season of the TV series, what are some of the points you would like people to pay special attention to?

Don't miss anything! The relationship between MIYA and Reki, the outcome of Hiromi's fleeting love, the current fight scenes between Sakurayashiki and Nanjo, the vibe of the master and dog relationship between Ainosuke and Kikuchi, etc. The bond between Reki and Langa through the whole series and how it develops into friendship, keeps your eyes peeled on it till the very end!! And since the theme song for this OVA was created with the TV series in mind, so I'm certain it will improve your understanding if you watch the whole series and think of it while listening to it☆

shiro walks in to find noctis and rin collapsed on the couch, both with the most ungraceful sleeping posture you can imagine complete with their eyes half open. he just snorts. like father, like son, he guesses.

(shiro, later on: oh wait. that was because they're the same person.)

if you think for one second that noctis staying youthful means that rin won't call him 'old man' you are so wrong. he absolutely does. it's karma. the first time he does it, it's just a critical hit.

the exwires @ rin and yukio: ...so you two are definitely second generation nephilim, right?

yukio: most likely, though father won't be honest with us.

rin: ...maybe he doesn't want to set a bad example? you know, cause he was like sixteen when he had us?

it took noctis a long time to get used to calling his younger self 'rin', when that still felt like it was his name.

it takes him a long time to stop responding to rin, but for all that, he can't really pinpoint the moment he stopped responding to it entirely, nor can he pinpoint the moment he started to respond to noctis without fail.

(ugh. he really wishes he'd picked a different name, though)

just. noctis looking in the mirror one day and realizing he's an adult now and that none of his friends will ever have the chance to grow up.

noctis: listen, rin. if you want to get piercings, get them now. you won't be able to do it later no matter how much you might want to.

yukio: aren't you supposed to tell us not to do that stuff?

rin: shut up yukio, don't make him change his mind!

the only times noctis hides his tail is when he has to go to the twins' school for any reason. hiding his horns is a little more complicated, once they start growing out, but he manages.

noctis listening to some mom prattle on about how rin attacked her son unprovoked, all while vividly remembering said incident from his childhood and knowing he sure as hell was provoked

shiemi looking at noctis post reveal, with the knowledge that rin is going to grow up to look like him one day and just. turning beet red.

rin: huh? no way! I'm going to look way cooler than him!

noctis: literally impossible, kid.

rin: don't call me kid! you're me!

noctis: yeah, but I'm like 32 years old and you're 16. so. kid.

rin and yukio are just. so weirded out by the fact that they've been calling an older version of rin 'dad' for years.

noctis: yeah, welcome to the club. i tried to get you two to call me nii-san, but you wouldn't listen.

rin: and you just went with it!?

noctis: shut up. you literally can't criticize any of my decisions.

yukio: he has a point, nii-san.

(rin squinting at noctis like. is he going to get a tail and horns when his seal breaks?)

noctis starts carrying kurikara around again after his true identity is exposed. he's also very clear to the order that if they try a single thing against either of his kids, he won't hesitate to turn on them in an instant.

(doesn't ask him when he started to think of rin and yukio as his kids for real. like a lot of things, it just sort of happened before he knew it. it is sort of funny watching them come to terms with something he's just sort of learned to roll with.)

juzo asks noctis for parenting advice, which throws him for a fucking loop. huah!? i mean, yeah, he guesses he did raise two kids but how is he still finding weird positions to be in??

rin: wait. so who raised you?

noctis: huh? shiro did.

rin & yukio, looking at shiro: grandpa...

shiro: NOPE, not doing that.

noctis, sensing a chance to mess with him: you're right! this is your grandpa shiro!

shiro: give me a break! i refuse to be called grandpa! i'm not that old!

I really, really, REALLY tried to give the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake a chance. I really did. At best, I thought it would be just okay. Wouldn't hold a candle to the original, but decent. I'm sorry to say this shit pissed me the fuck off. SPOILERS below.

Okay, let me get the things I like out of the way first. There's two new additions that I like. Firstly, Jumba and Pleakley having holographic human disguises as opposed to the paper-thin human disguises they wear in the original is a very smart choice that works better for a live-action setting. Second, there's a scene near the end where it looks like Stitch is gonna die and it's done very well. If this were a better movie, it would've been really effective.

Speaking of Stitch, he's as entertaining and cute as ever. I will say I had more fun when it was just him on screen. There's also a brand new scene with him before he crash-lands on Earth that's the comedic highlight of the movie. Plus, they got his original voice actor back, which is always welcomed. His live-action design is also perfect. Like, that's just Stitch in real life. The Grand Councilwoman along with the other alien designs (barring two exceptions which we'll get to later) are also appealing while still working in a live-action setting.

All of the actors deliver a good performance. No one feels like their half-assing it here. Everybody is also well cast (expect for... again, we'll get to that in a moment) with the child actress for Lilo being a big standout. She embodies the role so much and is honestly very talented for her age.

Alright, that's enough positivity. Now for the bad stuff.

First things first, the pacing is way off. It's all to fast and nothing feels like it gets to really stick with you. For example, the opening scene on the spaceship in the original is 10 minutes. Here, it's five and you can feel them speeding through it as fast as possible. The rest of movie is like that too. Scenes are way too fast compared to the original. Combined that with unnecessary tweaks, new dialogue, and constant cuts make the movie feel incredibly clunky.

This also affects jokes from the original film that are repeated here. They are now LESS FUNNY and more annoying. You know that scene in the original where Lilo shows Nani that Stitch can play records? Remember how funny that was? Here, Nani doesn't even see it making the joke fall flat because we don't get her reaction to it.

The remake also loves to undermine dramatic moments from the original and even new dramatic moments in favor of making easy jokes. Certain lines from the original that were taken completely seriously are turned into a joke here! It's like they're so afraid of having the characters have a real conversation because the kids might get bored. So now the conversations feel so forced and awkward.

Character and story arcs are also less effective compared to the original movie. Nani seems to hate Lilo at times to the point where another character has to tell her to apologize to Lilo instead doing it of her own free will. And the conversation they have is so short, so ingenuine, it feels like Nani is apologizing out of pure obligation. I no longer believe these sisters care about each other. I'm sorry, but I don't. And I know I was praising Stitch earlier, but his character also feels weaker here. He doesn't really seem to be that evil or have any real bad intentions. He's just a creature that just goofs around and acts wild. They say he's made to destroy, but he DOESN'T WANT TO DESTROY ANYTHING! Like, what's so dangerous about this guy?! He also seems to like Lilo far too early which completely ruins his character arc. They also changed Stitch having to save Lilo to Lilo having to save Stitch. That big action climax in the original isn't there just to have a big action climax. It also represents the end of Stitch's character arc. This creature that wanted nothing more than to wreak havoc is now doing everything in his power to save this little girl, and he's not even sure if he can save her. But they still have him give that speech at the end and it feels so unwarranted. I don't buy it. I don't!

By the way, Gantu isn't in the remake. He's just not. They cut him out entirely. Jumba is now the main villain. And like, I can understand why they made this decision. I can see this working. But it's so lame. The cleverness in the original is that you think Jumba is the main villain and then he's not. And then you're like "Can this other guy really be that effective of a villain?" and he is! It's subtlety being replaced with obviousness.

Speaking of Jumba, Zach Galifianakis was absolutely the wrong choice for this character. And Zach Galifianakis is a fine actor, he's doing an okay job. But he's not Jumba. He doesn't even feel like a new take on the character. He just feels like... well, Zach Galifianakis! And I have to complain about the actress for Nani. Again, she's doing a fine job, but she's NOT A NATIVE HAWAIIAN??? They just put her in makeup to make her look Hawaiian! Kindly go fuck yourselves for doing that, Disney.

Jumba and Pleakley's new designs are frankly disgusting. They don't look cute anymore. Jumba looks gross and Pleakley looks sickly. I don't understand what happened here. All the other aliens look fine, so why are these two prominent characters so ugly? Did they run out of time? Was it a budget thing? I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

Also, David's here too but he serves no purpose that I almost forgot he was in the movie at all. They cut the romance between him and Nani completely. You could cut him out and nothing would change.

And finally, the thing that pissed me off the most: the ending. Holy shit talk about missing the whole fucking point of the story. In the original film, Nani and Lilo are a broken family. But by expanding their Ohana, they're able to fix it. Because them getting separated would be the last straw to their Ohana being completely broken. Wasn't that such a sweet ending? Well, GUESS WHAT?! In the remake, Nani now gives Lilo up to foster care so the former can go to college to study Marine Biology. FUCK YOU! "oH bUt NaNi CaN sTiLl ViSiT lIlO!" Shut up! You're missing the point too. They broke the Ohana. You don't break the Ohana! It's also incredibly fucked up to think that two native Hawaiian girls have to be split up. Like, there's no other option. Bye! It's not only a disservice to the original story, but it can be downright offensive. Splitting families up is a-okay! Disney said so! FUCK!

Look, I can't stop you from seeing the remake. I can't stop you from liking it. But just know there's a far better version you can watch at home for half the cost, and in some cases FOR FREE. I went in with naive hope because I thought maybe they'll get it right this time. And if you have that same hope, don't. It is a sanitized, corporate copy of the original classic. Just like any other live-action remake. And if your one of those dumb fuckers that use the "It's a kid's movie, you dumb nerd!" excuse, let me get this through your thick skull. One: the original movie is for kids too, but it's done with way more love and care than this. Two: Disney is very clearly feeding off people's nostalgia for the original. I'm nostalgic for the original. So, whether you like it or not, I AM in the target demographic for this movie. And this is not at all what I wanted. I don't blame the director, or the writer, or the editors, or the actors, or any of the actual creative people behind it. I blame the Hollywood execs that most definitely watched over the production of this movie like a hawk. Please stop letting people who don't care about movies be in charge of making movies.

And please, please, PLEASE don't see the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake. I'm begging you.

I don't have a set time for posting I mostly write a chapter down when I'm done daydreaming about the scenario but anyway! Here it is! Chapter 3 Enjoy!

CW: cursing, stalking, mentions of drugs and sex, Adam's potty mouth but that's a given, one scene got heated up

It was her own damn fault for falling for Adam’s offer to take her out after his “generous” act of paying for her grocery bills.

Y/n sighs, watching Adam scarf down one of Fish’s greasy burgers before washing it down with a large milkshake. Speaking of Fish, him and the rest of her friends were trying too hard to not so inconspicuously listen in on their conversation. She had to signal Arrem to put the knife away when she pointed at it silently.

Crazy bitch…but she wouldn’t want her any other way. Y/n smiled to herself and munched on some fries she paid for.

Adam slammed a fist against his chest before letting out a burp, “Fuck that hits the spot”

“You’re gross, you know that?” She rolled her eyes, taking a sip from her own drink.

“And yet you hopped on the Dickmaster’s ride huh baby?” Adam grinned, giving her a wink. “You love me being gross isn’t that right you naughty slut-hmpf!”

Y/n shoved a handful of fries inside his mouth with her face heating up. “Okay okay!! Shut your big ass mouth??”

He slapped her hand away, hacking out some soggy fry. “Choking is kinda hot, but let’s not waste food okay sweetheart? Wouldn’t want to be a bad example for the baby” Adam had the audacity to wiggle his fingers across the diner at Addie, sitting on one of an Exorcist’s lap. Her kid didn’t seem to mind playing with them, making her head throb at how trusting her baby can be.

She blames the father.

“Okay I know you didn’t just ask me to eat at my own workplace to just ask me out…you told me you wanted to talk”

Y/n is not even going to address the whole self-proclaimed dickmaster title. It’s too stupid.

Adam stared at her and shrugged, putting down his dirty napkin, “Alright, tell one of your little friends to babysit, you don’t want anyone else to eavesdrop”

Before Y/n could even open her mouth, Pen already popped up next to their table and started to clean it up. “Oh don’t worry about it! We’d be happy to take care of little Addie!”

Pen was smiling a little too wide with Arrem giving a thumbs up from behind her. Fuck, she has a feeling she’ll be up late being interrogated by these two.

Y/n looked back at Adam, “Well…there you go”

“The fuck do you mean you told them about us? Way to break under pressure cheeks” Adam drove them out of the diner’s tiny parking lot.

“Well it’s not like I can keep this” She said, gesturing between them, “a secret forever! They're gonna ask why some semi-famous rockstar is hanging around me and why do you care? You’re not anyone but some weirdo who decided to stalk us around” Y/n looked at him and grinned, flicking his ear. "You're not exactly subtle"

Adam rolled his eyes, giving a nasty side eye, “Oh please, I didn’t even need to use the tracker I placed to find you people, this ‘city’ of yours is tiny as fuck and how dare you bitch, I am famous!”

Y/n gaped at him, a look of disgust on her face at how casual he sounded...at stalking! “You sick fuck?? I fucking knew you placed a tracker on Addie's gaudy pink ribbon!”

“Oh babe, how cute but I’m not an amateur, I wouldn’t use my own kid to track you down, that’s tacky…I switched your location share on your phone and connected it with mine”

“Ex-fucking-cuse me, you psychopath?? My phone?? And Adelaine is mine, she’s not yours!”

Y/n is seething, the audacity of this bastard to tell her that Addie, her baby, that she raised alone with friends, cried alone in an empty apartment while her kid also cried in her arms cause she was so terrified on what she’s gonna do with no degree, no budget and no job at that time and this man who just barreled into her life that she managed to keep afloat is now telling her that the kid is his??

Hell no.

“Don’t fucking lie to me babe, I don’t take kindly to sinners, No matter how big and juicy your tits are” Y/n saw how Adam, giving her a quick once ever, gripping the wheel as he drove her back to her apartment. “There’s no use anyways, I got that shit on paper. Keep a better eye on our brat, it’s easy to pluck a hair off of that cute head, which by the way you’re so fucking welcome for blessing you with such a cute baby”

Y/n swallowed hard, she didn’t even care with the crass way he talked to her.

“How…” At a loss for words. How the hell…?? Was she that blind?? To let Adam get too close to Addie that she didn’t notice him collecting DNA??

“I also took the used tissue when I wiped my princess’ nose the first time we met, I am just making fucking sure the brat is mine” Adam reaches over and flicks open the glove compartment, revealing official looking papers in thick envelopes with seals and signatures and number she could barely comprehend at the moment.

“Holy shit… How many times did you test my baby?!” Y/n rifles through the papers, seeing the results mock her.

“Our baby and don’t you fucking disrespect me again angel, I tested her three times if you must know”

Adam was always known to be the loud, goofy, go with the flow kind of guy or at least that’s what the media portrayed him as.

Always on the move, always partying after concerts, always having someone, male or female around his arm to warm his bed in. Hell, that’s how she ended up in this mess in the first place.

Y/n bit her lip, reading through the files. Adam was thorough. Scarily thorough but then again, no surprise if he has a team behind him to find all this out for him.

He had a huge scandal back then about some girl cheating on him and doing hard drugs in bed with some virtue church chick because of it but for some reason, it was erased from all sorts of media. No articles, no news outlets not even forums; like some sort of mandela effect. There’s still rumours but without proof they’re all just that…rumours.

“…” Y/n bit her lip, turning away from the documents to the window. “You didn't answer...you had your chance to be a father, what makes you think I’ll let you in her life now?”

He didn’t answer and that made her almost freak out. A quiet Adam was never a good sign. Too dangerous, too hard to read.

Adam parked the car in front of her apartment, killing the engine, the leather in his chair squeaking under his weight as he sat back.

Y/n turned to him, about to open her mouth before Adam exploded. “Do you have any idea how I felt?? Why didn’t you tell me! I have a daughter I didn’t know about?? I was so careful! You selfish bitch you kept her from me! How could you do this to me now??? When I have my music to think about and fuck! What would the fans think??? I should sue you for emotional damage!”

“I kept her from you??? Do you hear yourself right now you narcissistic pig!?  You’re the one who gave me your supposed phone number and then come to find out that you disconnected the line so how I was supposed to reach you?? Go to every concert you ever had??” Y/n screamed back, a vein in her head throbbing.

Adam rubbed his face in his hands, smudging the eye-guyliner under his eyes. “That’s no excuse! That’s my kid you’re keeping from me and I’m gonna be there whether you want me to or not!”

Y/n struggled opening the car door, banging her shoulder against it before giving up. “The hell you are! Fucking…stupid UGH! Child locks! Let me out Adam!”

“Not until you apologize!” Adam finally looked at her glaring at this bitch who dared to keep something HUGE from him. Going to his concerts was one thing but what about emails?? Fans send emails to his band ALL the time! Contacting his manager?? PR team?? Hello?? She could’ve used the fucking bird app!

“Okay! Shut up! We’re gonna get the cops called on us!” Y/n sighs and groaned in her hands in frustration.

Yelling at each other isn’t going to help. She knew it was only a matter of time before Adam finds out anyway. A big shot star like him with tons of connections and crazy fans reaching? Nosey people are gonna look at Addie and ask, ‘Where’s the father?’

 It’s a time bomb waiting to happen.

Adam scoffed, turning his head away to glare out the window. He has plans, plans for his sales, tours, his music, how was he gonna go touring now with a kid?

He sighs, hitting his head against the window. He’s an asshole but he’s not a monster.

Adam can already hear his mother’s voice in his head. It only takes one time to fuck up bad, Adam.

“Okay look, obviously you can’t take care of Addie the way you want” Adam held up a finger, shushing her before she protested. “This whole thing is cute and all but you really think this will last?”

Y/n slapped his hand away, tugging at the door again, “I took good care of her before you showed up mind you” She grunted, slamming her hand against the door. “We’re doing just fine”

“Stubborn bitch, just let me help! Come on, like I said she’s my kid too and you think that I’m gonna just leave now that I know she’s out here?”

Y/n sighs, slumping against her seat. He’s right and it’s not fair to him if he’s gonna actually try.

“Alright..”

Adam perked up when she leaned in close.

“I mean…It wouldn’t hurt to try…?” She mumbled, looking up at him. Her hand slowly rubbing his arm up and down as she slowly moved to straddle his lap. Fuck he could smell her perfume wafting into his nose.

Shit…now he remembers why he got with her in the first place.

His eyes focused on the unbuttoned part of that thin ass cloth she calls a blouse. He could almost see the outline of her bra. It’s plain…not like the sexy lace ones he’s used to when his groupies throw theirs on stage.

“A baby should always have a mom and a dad, right?”

His hands placed itself on her thighs, the jeans fit and tight before resting it against the curve of her waist. Shit, under all that ugly clothes, Y/n has body on her. Is this the temptation his father kept talking about?

“Yeah, I’ll be a good fucking daddy...” Adam almost groaned at her scent, tracing his nose down her neck. He could feel his pants tighten exponentially.

A click was heard before he could take a bite, unlocking all the doors of his car.

“What the fuck--?”

Y/n quickly kicked open the car door and jumped out, running to her apartment building. Adam scrambled to run after her only to be choked by the seat belt still attached to his seat.

He could hear her laughing as she autolocks the building door on him, finally free from the belt.

“This ain’t over baby! I’m coming for ya! You’re lucky I fuck MILFs too!!” Adam yelled to her apartment window, only to find Y/n’s middle finger shove out her balcony window before hearing the window slam shut.

i really think sera is simultaneously fantastic and also a missed opportunity. solas in DA:I took ~7 rewrites, which is understandable since he's set up for like, Big Things. but i think about that a lot when i'm ~*~musing~*~ on what sera could've been.

sera is far and away the only character by bioware i'm similar to as a person IRL, her voice actress is FANTASTIC, i almost always have her in my party bc i love her, (my url is a sera quote!!), and still!!! she feels SO FLAT TO ME!!! and i CAN'T PUT MY FINGER ON IT!!!! this is going to be a very Vibes Based critique and i might pull up quotes etc for a post in future but i just need to. get it Out

maybe it's a "woman written by a man" issue. she feel so close to being Real and Relatable and then swings wide, it's so weird. i do think a deep part of it stems from the writers/narrative going "yeah she can really get on your nerves lol!" — for the most blatant example of this, see: the fact she's the only party member with a constant "get out of the inquisition" button on her dialogue wheel. i also feel this in how hard-line her opinions are, while at the same time she argues them, for the most part, from a place of vibes (like moi Right Now lmao) or shuts down the other side.

it reminds me of da2 where fenris is given time to Discourse with hawke about mages in the gallows, and mage companions in attendance will interject with like "yeah but. locking people up is bad" which YES! IT IS!!! 100% I AM ON YOUR SIDE but the writing gives fenris way more time to Outline his Facts and Logic so the mage companions look like they're just shutting him down in bad-faith.

and there's no real arc for her! her personal quest is about red jenny stuff and maybe working with a guy for the inquisition but then Not. (there is a point to be made about vivienne's personal quest similarly being Lacking in many people's opinion, but as this isn't a post abt her i'm not going to Delve, but i would be remiss not to mention it) yes we HEAR about her backstory but. then that's doneskies.

the romance is just having a good time (unless you're an elf who drank from the well in which case she dumps you which.. i both do and don't take issue with? it makes sense for her as a static character, but i don't WANT her to be static) — again this is where i start to chafe at my own rationale because.. do i want there to be more drama/conflict? yes. do i trust the existing writers to make the lesbian couple's drama not something trite or offensive? mmmmmm. mmmmm.

she has so many interesting aspects but they all feel like they got tacked on and then chucked out the window! the clearest "hey.. what's this meant to be" is how she seems fade-sensitive in banter with solas. i know this is used as evidence for "does she have some andruil in her", which i'm onboard with, but INGAME i'm sad the fade sensitivity seems solely relegated to the solas banters. like? did they just run out of stuff for them to talk about? 💀

her existentialism makes me WANT TO GNAW MY KEYBOARD it's SO EXCITING to see a character touch on existentialism the way she does; "The Nothing" WAS INSANE to see on her tombstone the first time round when i was expecting something juvenile. i knew what it meant immediately and i think it's so interesting; i'm really glad we get a talk with her afterwards abt it. do i also wish this existentialism more clearly permeated her characterisation ahhehehwhehahhe Yes

as for the Elfy issue: i'm not from any of the minorities that the writing for elves draws coding from, so. grain, salt. i don't think "i don't want to be seen as An Elf(TM)", or being not big on the dalish, needed to be handled in such a blatant "this is internalised racism i cannot talk you out of" way. again, fenris in da2 is a dick about the dalish, but he does have a personal relationship with his identity as an elf which feels authentic.

i also hate how shafted city elves got in DA:I so sera being from an alienage (when she was very young) but then that being breezed past makes me. sad whatever I KNOW SHE DOESN'T EVEN REMEMBER IT IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE A THING I JUST WANTED CITY ELVES SOMEWHEREEEE

I just wanted to ask something about something you said.

You said , 'you know religion and bible is created by humans right' correct me if I am wrong. I just want to point out, you know some people doesn't believe that, right? I mean, i think it's not correct to say it like it's a fact, because it may not be for other people.

Most of the believers believe religion is sent by god, so saying it's created by humans are like, wrong for many people. For most people, the books are god's words. And it is not created by humans.

Bible changed through the time, yes.

But for example Muslims don't think the quran didn't change, and it's the word of god. Religion is rules set by god, not humans.

At least that is how it is for people.

Meanwhile I agree belief depends on people and no one have to live according to religion. They can believe it's made by humans. And I agree you don't need a church or any temples, but in most religions praying places are needed, and it's okay to believe you need a church.

But I used to be religious, and I want you to know it's a belief. And i saw a lot of people who believes this. And just like they can't prove god exists or they can't prove religion is sent by god, we can't prove it's made by humans either.

To you and anyone else who follows me who's religious, please know that I didn't intend to offend. I haven't been to church in a LONG time and even though I have a surface level understanding of some religions, I certainly don't understand them on a personal level. I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable for their beliefs at all- I think religious freedom is so important.

I'm putting an explanation for what I meant below the cut if you're interested, because I feel like maybe I didn't word it properly, but also like...these are just my beliefs and I'm one person so I am NOT saying I'm unequivocally right.

I guess what I meant is like...even if someone believes the bible/quran/torah/etc is the word of God, to my understanding, it's not a belief that he sent the physical book here, right? People; humans; wrote down his words? (Please, genuinely, correct me if I'm wrong. But I have a vague memory of someone writing some words on a mountain?) And then, these books have been translated and re-translated by humans hundreds of times. It's like a game of telephone--things get lost in translation. So what I meant was more that people, who have flaws, are interpreting for God. And as people have flaws, they make mistakes, or can be biased.

Same thing with religion. I'm not familiar with the organization of all religions, but with catholicism, you have the Pope, Bishops, etc...they're all humans. I think some people believe they're blessed by God, but they're not all-knowing like a lot of people believe God is. So, even unintentionally, they can make mistakes.

And absolutely, I didn't mean that you shouldn't go to church! I think churches, temples, mosques cane be wonderful places that offer safety and security for people. I know some religions require attending church/temple/mosques for prayer. But what I meant was that if there are no safe places available, I'd like to think a higher power isn't just listening in those buildings, she/he/it's listening everywhere.

Thank you so much for the kind message! I'm actually in the middle of making another jjk piece but it's been a while so I've been trying to remember and consolidate my process. This ask came at a great time hehe

I use photoshop for most of my art pieces but I think there are a lot of cheaper alternatives (procreate on Ipad, clipstudio paint, medibang etc) that would work just as well. As for tips, I have a technical and an emotional one:

My technical tip would be to use references!! Especially if you're just starting out, it's SO IMPORTANT imo for catching mistakes especially with anatomy, lighting and perspective. And by reference I mean real life photos. I think you can be inspired by other artists' work, but there is the danger of picking up their bad habits if you only use their work for reference. I would recommend sticking mainly to real life and looking to other artists only for resolving specific stylistic details once you have a solid grasp of your fundamentals.

I would start with a rough sketch first of whatever you want to draw and then look for refs that match the mood and tone you want to go for. Get the idea down first and draw from the heart. Then the refs come in to help with the specifics (ex. what a window looks like, how someone would hold a cigarette) The jump from the rough to the clean line version is an amalgamation of all the little things you learn along the way. For example, on one day, I learned that clothing folds usually start at one point and spread out. Then another day, I learned how to do 1 point perspective and so on and so forth. Then all those tidbits slowly add up to help you get better and better.

2. My second tip would be to understand what you want to convey with your artwork. If it's fanart, what about the media that you're interacting with draws you in? It doesn't always need to be a complex answer, sometimes you just want to draw a character because you think they're hot and that's totally valid imo.

I occasionally tutor very young artists and oftentimes, they will tell me that they want to draw like X artist or X painting/piece of media. I always try to encourage them to go deeper. What about that drawing resonates with them and what specifics are occurring in the picture to make them feel that way? For example, I recently realized I love environment heavy drawings not for the background itself but because they ground the characters and seeing them do mundane things makes them feel more real to me.

For the example below, the whole set was to explore friendship and mental health. Sometimes just having someone there who listens and is willing to talk with you can make a huge difference.

Once you know the purpose of your art, then I think it makes the decision making for the rest of the process much easier. What type of lighting scenario conveys support and comfort? I went with dusk. Then I started searching up references for dusk lighting. Couldn't find the ref I actually used for colour but a quick google will show you lots of similar options.

What kind of poses feel in character for Shoko vs Geto? What is the focus of the picture? As much as I love details, I think sometimes they can actually take away from the main message. For example, if I had rendered the lamp on the right a lot more, it would've distracted from the main point of the picture so I tried to keep that and the background in general simple (still something I need to improve on haha).

Then those extra technical things (value structure, cool vs warm light, reflective lighting, connotations behind colours) you pick up along the way are all there to help you better communicate what you want to convey with your art.

Okay I lied one more tip, be patient and learn to appreciate the process. Like with any skill, there are a lot of technical aspects that you have to study and practice. I think because the end result is so visual and easily accessible in comparison to other hobbies/jobs, it really cripples beginners. Even with writing, you won't realize a book is good until you learn how to read. With art, you can resonate with a painting without having drawn a single line yourself.

I think beginners and even professionals see a lot of beautiful finished artwork and get enticed by that only to be discouraged when they find their process/finished work didn't end up the way they wanted it to look. Treat it like you would learning how to write. The fundamentals can be tedious and do take time to drill into your head, but learning them will help you SO MUCH with the creative fun parts. You can't write a poem without first taking the time to learn the alphabet, spelling and grammar. You're also probably going to write a bunch of shitty poems before you write that one good one, but that's okay because each piece lets you experiment and exercise your voice. Art is the same thing, don't rush it! Enjoy the process and celebrate your improvements.

I genuinely believe DickRoy would be terrible for Roy. I meant there is decent evidence for it, New Titans Vol 1 #101 where Dick throws Roy's addiction in his face and physically attacks him because Roy is selected to take over the Titans or Titans Vol 2 23 which is a tough read of Dick reacting to Roy's addiction (if I am remembering right). (Honestly kinda weird when they try to retcon in Dick helping Roy with his addiction when I don't think any decent help is in character for Dick). Roy is capable of being a good boyfriend to Dick, he is very understanding but the same cannot be said about Dick to Roy (in my opinion).

You are so incredibly correct, anon and this is really foundational in why I kind of made the switch from being a DR shipper to JR. Now,

DISCLAIMER: I wasn't active in DC fanon anywhere that can still be found until like 2011-ish and by the time I was engaging with DC stuff it was around when the YJ show rekindled my interest and I was mostly yj-verse birdflash and some more niche ships largely driven by rp. I didn't really write fic in my older LJ DR days and just read the stuff I could find then.

Additional Disclaimer: This post is not intended as ship bashing, yes I'm getting a little bitchy excuse me if I'm a little pissy with how toxic the other side tends to get. I've said it once and I'll say it again: The appeal of DR to a lot of people is it being a somewhat toxic ship, but that's not how a lot of people are trying to sell it when they bash on JR.

Lemme just, let's look at some panels from your examples (Uh, TW for... I'm so hopping mad rn I can't remember the proper terms. just, being shitty about past addiction, incredibly shitty depictions of addiction, abusive language):

New Titans vol 1 (1988) #101

This particular incident is made worse by, well, all of Roy defending Dick prior to this in the very same issue:

Roy says that Dick's always been a bit standoffish with him (again, same issue), Wally even somewhat agrees and attributes it to "that Batman thing." And the entire reason they're removing Dick from leadership is FOR HIS OWN GOOD?

God, Titans Vol 2 (2008) #23 is an EXTREMELY hard read, it's at about the time of Cry for Justice and DickBats, and they really fuck up revisiting Roy's addiction so hard in here, and make a point to isolate Roy to really set him up for the clusterfuck that is Rise of Arsenal.

But yeah, Jason's the reason Roy's characterization fell into the shitter? (Also, "get help or I'll get help for you" is not... great. That's not help. Not when it's presented like this)

... Sure. Like the majority of this issue is really just about how awful the Titans were (with an emphasis on Wally being shit tbh) to Roy EXCEPT Donna (and Garth tbh, but Roy gets really defensive around him and is a total ass too. I'm not saying he's perfect by any means but...)

Like, hell, who needs enemies when you have friends like these, am I right? and a LOT of Titans/Teen Titans runs play up the teen drama and strife between Dick and Roy or Roy and literally all the other guys! It Always Has!

Allow me to also add in Titans Vol 3 (2016) #21

It's important to note that, once again, Roy isn't above also doing some shitty stuff to them, and does, but let's put some of these scenes into a bit more context:

The first one is literally Roy doing everything he can to save the Titans and prevent the government from signing bills that would affect a lot of people EVEN BEYOND the Titans themselves! Yes, Dick is in a bad space, it's still fucked! It doesn't excuse him! A reason is not an excuse! And clearly he's been sitting on that knife about Roy's addiction to pull out whenever he feels like it and has a bad enough day.

The second one... these are flashbacks happening while they're on their way to visit Roy after his arm's been ripped off by Prometheus and he's still in a coma and his daughter is fucking dead. The WHOLE time is still Donna acting as this buffer of trying to protect Roy from Wally and Dick's criticisms. (Especially Wally tbh. Dick does treat him with some modicum of acknowledgement/respect in the "current" scenes.) Could be argued to be a product of the era bcs once again this is explicitly the leadup to Rise of Arsenal.

Roy is like.... 100% correct here. Not on like a metaphoric "bitching them out" thing I mean on the literal front of he was exposed to the drug that was the method by which the Big Bad was starting to control people and was trying to get people to believe him. Dick says he's not, Batman says he's not, Donna isn't sure but ultimately proves herself as an actually good friend by busting out to help him herself and they all show up in the end to save the day. This is his last run before HIC.

These aren't even the only scenes I could pull out my hat for this. Look, as far as I'm concerned the toxicity is the APPEAL of the DR ship! But as I've gotten older and in the current climate of the world being as terrifying and cruel as it is, I just want something softer than I can picture these two having (Yes there's plenty of good things about them you can cherrypick out of their history too, but even THE DR comic run Outs.iders is filled with "mommy & daddy are fighting again" divorce energy ect ect ect. I can't tolerate most of the "wholesome" fic bcs it also completely defangs them or has the standard "uwu sad batboy x their personal love interest therapist with no other personality" Yeah, it happens in JR too, I generally don't READ THOSE either!).

I want Good Things for Roy! Something that I can see a happy end without compromising everyone's characters!

I know all the haters don't agree with me on that second point because they can't wrap their head around the idea of a) multiple interpretations of a character THAT CAN STILL BE CONSIDERED IN-CHARACTER and b) the fact that "hating Jason" isn't a CANON personality trait in literally any of Roy's runs! He was even getting between Dick and Jason fighting because he could respect that Jason had valuable intel and was willing to work with him even if he's a bitch!

And most of his major ships either don't give us that happy end potential to me (Ro.yJa.de, Di.ckRoy, Wa.llyRo.y) or have certain things I can't get past (Don.naRo.y "I was only dating you again so as to sully everyone's image of me as a good girl and you shouldn't let your daughter get so attached to me so it doesn't hurt her when we break up" - not if, WHEN. There's also a lot of offhand comments in that run from the other Titans that are very cruel to Roy too actually lol)

Despite what people keep trying to say, Roy is not Dick's best friend. Donna is. And then Wally, And probably Babs, and then maybe Roy somewhere underneath there. Is it possible that Dick is ROY'S best friend? Eh, I'm going to be honest I think Donna is his too lol. Then maybe Dick, but actually I'd bet Kyle got up there pretty far too? Jason does not have to do much to rank lbr. Even at his worst towards Roy he was kinder than the average amongst the older Titans.

And that's! largely where I'm coming from here tbh. I also Like Royfire, yeah. Don't try to argue with me that it's only bcs of RHATO bcs he also hit on her really early on and they have a solid friendship that make for a perfectly good relationship. ("Except for Kori who I'd have to shoot twice." "Nice." always fucking gets me). But lbr I'd get just as much hate and less engagement for writing it so sue me for focusing on the route where fun number goes up and serotonin hits the brain.
