Thinking about the concept of self-teratomancy again. On the one hand, the agency of self-modification. On the other, the inherent implications of that being labeled teratomancy instead of Shapeling Arts: that there are hidden histories to be unlocked, that you as a creature are fragmented or ill-suited to your purpose, that to break and make yourself anew might be required. The cruelty and mercy of the knife instead of a slow and warping moulding. The fact that to change yourself requires first to know it, on a level deep and stark enough to leave the salt of your ancestors' blood on your tongue.

And then Wade finds him and they save the world and Wade wakes him up every morning with soft little kisses and cuddles up to him all night and come up behind him while he's cooking to wrap his arms round his waist, prop his chin on his shoulder.

And Logan's uncomfortable with it at first. Not because it's Wade, because he's a bit in love with the idiot, but because it's so unfamiliar and how can he ever deserve to be touched and handled so gently???? And so he shys away, and Wade backs off thinking he doesn't like it, but when logan finally admits he just doesn't feel worthy of it Wade goes insane. Goes batshit crazy because wtf???? In his head logan is the best person to exist ever, and the absolute least he deserves is to be given physical affection!

So Wade dials it up to a hundred. He's never not touching him. He plays with his hair, holds his hand under the dinner table, gives him forehead kisses just because. Thanks him everytime too, a soft little 'thank you for letting me love you, peanut' which melts logans insides.

He still knows the violent touches, sometimes enjoys them just as much, but for the first time in his entire 200 year existence they are a tiny minority compared to gentle ones.

hm. yk that idea that horror and comedy are essentially the same process; where they both start with a build up to a climax/punchline, and then flip the audience's expectations on their heads at the last moment, executed in similar ways but with differing tone?

Do we have any evidence for Fitz being autistic?

There's a few symptoms we could draw on !!

Sameness/textures--Fitz has multiple identical pairs of the same pajamas, as seen when he loans them to Keefe and Dex. Intended to be a rich thing, but could be interpreted as being specific about fabric and fit.

Friendships--prior to the story, Fitz doesn't appear to have any friends. Just Keefe, and the two of them were given a nudge by Alden. This wasn't helped by his disappearances, but a difficulty connecting to others could also play a role. Even now, his primary tie is to Sophie and Biana, not the whole group.

We could also look at his difficulty with changing how he thinks or how he manages strong emotion, though those aren't as strong of points since they're easily attributed to his background as a Vacker and the primary emotion we focus on is anger.

You could go further, but those are the points that stand out strongest to me. The distance he seems to have from the group and the way he's bought into expectations put on him as if they're natural, and his difficulty letting that go.

It's not definitive, but it's a starting point :)

actually, does anyone have any first name headcanons for her??? i figure she'd go for something dull (affectionate) tbh, but her friends probably come at her with Too Many Suggestions. maybe goes for a name that was on the initial list of names picked for baby her..... so something with a similar Energy to miles...... i should really just browse a name website......

i am so tired of female characters being inherently written as ‘terrifying’ or ‘scary’ w no respect to their characterisation.

for one, it feels so fake. i know so many women irl (i am one!!!) and there are very few, of any, that i would categorise as ‘scary as is’. heck, even if we go by tempers—the numbers just don’t match.

but somehow in fics, every single woman is a terrifying force of nature bc that’s…somehow…the only way we can think of women? idk?

and also just, it’s such a two dimensional characterisation that i only see w the female characters. all men aren’t angry and hex-happy and scary all the time. they’re affable, chill, respond to situations thoughtfully instead of always resorting to violence.

i think it also bothers me bc the anger thing flows neatly into the v gendered carefree man child/stuck up fun sponge stereotypes that so many relationships are forced into. it’s just an icky dynamic all around.

and lastly,,,i don’t think it’s even normal for a character to be latently terrifying everyone all the time??? unless it’s a specific quirk of theirs??? like women aren’t dementors bro chill tf out
