i honestly wish rr would just write for something that has nothing to do with pjo not the same characters not the universe just go and write something new bc i really liked daughter of the deep and i think he's wrung everything out of the pjoverse yk? he's a good writer but he needs to go do something different

I agree - the problem with Rick's writing is he's heavily reliant on his writing being derivative. He struggles to write original stuff. PJO, HoO, ToA, etc are all derivative from Greco-Roman mythology/history. MCGA is Norse mythology/history, TKC is Egyptian mythology/history. Daughter of the Deep is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. And he's not terrible at it! The problem is that can't go on forever. He runs out of material to work from over time and suddenly the quality of the franchise tanks dramatically. Especially as he loses overarching connecting threads to tie the plots together, so it just becomes this soup of throwing references at the wall with no cohesion to see what sticks. And it's bad!

We started seeing it in HoO, also in part due to Rick trying to combine too many disparate inspirations to the main plot to begin with and didn't know how to make them mesh well (Seven Against Thebes, Gigantomachy, Argonauts, Odyssey). TKC and MCGA were okay because they're only three book series, so that's plenty of mythology to draw from with stuff left over, and the majority of their companion novel stuff is ghostwritten anyways. The shorter series span means less filler required so less mythology is used up and there ya go. In the longer series, Rick has to spend those five books filling in the gaps of that overarching plot and he runs out of material fast - that's why by the end of HoO it was just turning into blatant Marvel references. Now that we're getting into a fourth installment in the main series collection, even though it's only a three-book series, Rick has basically written himself into a corner because he doesn't write anything else. He ran out of places to go with the franchise like two series ago! So now he's just throwing literally anything he can think of at things (literally just plucking random mythological figures and pop culture references or tropes), or if he can't think of anything, apparently just blatantly lifting stuff from the community.

At this point the only possible Greco-Roman series I think he'd be able to do without it being total garbage would be a 3-book Roman series set during SoM-TLO/The Second Titan War. I don't think he should do that and I don't want him to, but based on everything that's probably just what would have the best likelihood of success. It just seems like the only place he can go. Anything else he'd have to do something actually original, and he's shown time and time again that he's not interested in doing that and isn't very good at it anymore.

Valid point I keep finding BUT I recently read the PJO series again in preparation for TSATS and those books still slap!! They’re so good even tho I’m reading them as an adult even though they're meant for kids. (Also I recently read ToA because of course I’m gonna keep reading Rick’s middle school books until the day I die or they stop coming out lol. And that series while more goofy at points I still really liked) I also read one of Mark Oshiro's other books in prep for this book because I was excited for The Sun and Star to be released and I just COULD NOT get through it 😭 the writing was just giving me the ick and the characters where all kind of samie like that sassy talking wit. Which was a bummer because I liked the premise of the book “Anger is a Gift”, which was about underfunded schools mainly facing ppl of color and immigrants which leads to the school-to-prison pipeline because of the defunct way America funds public schools that keeps the poor poor and the rich getting richer & it was ACAB & had a lot of queer representation & etc. So I thought I’d really like it but I just couldn’t get through it because of the writing and I noticed this same writing style showing up in TSATS. Just because it’s for kids doesn’t excuse it from being bad. Like early Pixar and Studio Ghibli is still so good to watch back again and my 50+ yrs old parents like it. Book examples would be Harry Potter (screw JK Rowling tho fr) & the The Little Prince

Not to bash on ppl who say this is the main reason ppl don’t like the book but it feels like a straw man argument to say that the books not growing with us is the main reason ppl didnt like it. All tho I’m sure ppl have argued this but that is definitely their fault because Rick is staying in middle-grade fiction forever like that’s his thing! Why would ppl expect different 🤣 You think he wants to write a sex scene?! LMAO

(Here’s my review, it’s unhinged and not great because I should be doing productive stuff but am distracted until I can at least write down some of my thoughts on my disappointing experience)

Here are some things I didn’t like about it from a piece of art standpoint:

The pacing was bad

This book was filled with the first thing they teach you about writing which is: SHOW don’t TELL

It made me not ship Solangelo surprisingly like how??! I used to love Solangelo but I think this mainly is because of the collective consciousness of the fandom and because we wanted Nico to find happiness with someone. But if you really look back on their moments canonically from the books Will is a background character (who honestly kind of gaslights Nico by invalidating that ppl treated him differently as a son of Hades and that he didn't feel welcome at camp) and they kind of have a quick meet cute in the last book of The Last Olympian. They get together without us seeing their developing relationship and we now know they’re dating in The Trials of Apollo where we see them briefly in the first book and then more so in the last book. Honestly, this canonically alone doesn’t give me enough information or examples to really know or care about their relationship in comparison to Percy and Annabeth who we get to see develop. So TSATS just kind of felt hollow to me because I’m supposed to believe they’d die for each other but I DONT KNOW THE POWER OF THEIR LOVE?? This could just be a first love fling type thing like I was never shown the depth of their romance just told constantly in the book how much they love each other so it just felt kind of empty and emotionally unsatisfying to me.

Solangelo's relationship has always been in the background and the fans are what really made it cause we love Nico and want him to be happy. So when Will and Nico are fighting in this book all I can think is that this is just their relationship period.

So the reason it made me not like Solangelo was because Tarturus was supposed to bring out the worst in them and strain their relationship but, like, I haven’t really seen much of their relationship so I don’t have a “control group” to base this off of. So Will just seemed rude when he was so mean about Nico’s underworld home and about Nico's darkness which I also didn’t understand wtf he was talking about because Nico has killed just as many monsters as other campers and what else was his darknes based off of. cause he’s emo/goth?? Cause he can raise the dead?? Like guys we’ve discussed this just because a character wears black doesn't automatically make them the bad guy. I honestly thought Will just thought that was hot and they’d have that normie x alt relationship dynamic (that meme of: My hot witch wife. Me doing whatever she wants) I thought THAT was Solangelo not Will constantly trying to bring this light side to him and trying to change him. I agree that Nico needs help w his trauma and PTSD and things like that but this felt like if someone tried to “cure” a goth person, like actually screw you

I thought Will was supposed to look like a normie but be secretly a freak (in a good way lol) / goth interest. Cause this is meee I thought I was like Will as someone who looks like a normie and has a sunny disposition but I have a lot of alt/goth interests and I would let an alt girlie step all over me tbh lol. So does he like Nico for who he is or not?!

This is more in line w what I thought their relationship was like lol:

The flashbacks and forwards I thought were ok even if they took you out of the story a bit but this device is supposed to be used for an IMPORTANT event not just as a way to quickly give context to their relationship and when we got to the scene this was taking place in I was like that’s it?? He what? fell down and is suffering from sun withdrawals and this is the book's big moment to justify jarring flashback scenes?

Mark Oshiro is not a fantasy adventure or horror writer and it shows. Maybe it’s just me but their depiction of Tarturus and the nightmare and the journey were just not up to snuff with good horror and fantasy books I’ve read. (And if your gonna say something about how it’s for kids then I raise you the book series “Goosbumps”) So as a genre in itself, it was just disappointing. It was mainly a relationship guidebook book but I didn’t really like that or feel like it was done well, It felt lectury and also idk if that's the genre middle schoolers really like?? 😅

It had too many references which really dates a book, A lot of professional writers say not to use too much slang or modernreferences (unless you’re trying to make a book expressly about a time period) because it really dates a book and doesn’t make a story feel timeless for future generations if you use too many references (this doesn’t include political novels tho which are very much based in that time when the events happening) Anyways for future writers keep this in mind, you don't need to keep in touch with the youth through urban dictionary you can just write about the emotions of being young or whatever. If you’ve tried to read a comic book aimed at teens from the 50s like I have you’ll realise how funny that is.

(Also the carebear reference that I didn’t even understand and I watched carebear as a kid & Lil Nas video which if this was written for kids that music video feels a bit inappropriate for them 😂 it had a reference both too old and too young for middle schoolers AND how in the world would 1930s born, dropped out of elementary school, can’t use the internet or phones half blood, NICO DI ANGELO know these references???)

Bad alt representation. (This is my most out-of-pocket opinionated bullet point rant so if you don't agree that’s a-okay :D ) This could be a whole post in itself but although I know ppl joke about Nico as the Emo kid I would really like to get into how Nico is actually, or it would be cool, as having some goth subculture inclinations. And ppl probably think of Trad Goths with the whole makeup and teased hair look but it’s mainly a music-based subculture and/or it just has a different idealogy around the ideas of death and what is deemed beautiful while most ppl see it as ugly. (Like listen to “Gallows Dance” or the Bauhaus's “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” & “The Passion of Lovers”, to name songs off the top of my head) This bullet point is definitely MY OPINION and doesn’t contribute exactly to the book being bad but aren’t those songs the vibe of an underworld kid like Nico?? Embracing the darkness and dancing in graveyard vibes fr!! Anyways most alt subcultures and especially emo are seen as a phase in life that you grow out of and then become normal. This book just really gives the energy of being written by a normie who would be confused by the choices of alt ppl and just doesn’t get it because it’s not their personal interest, which isn’t exactly bad even tho I want more philosophy from Nico on the chillness and acceptance of death (all tho greek mythologies view on the afterlife sucks fr and THAT is a whole other post haha) So this isn’t exactly a problem BUT what gives me the ick is WILL NOT ACCEPTING THESE THINGS LIKE SIR STOP BASHING YOUR BOYFRIENDS LIFE!! Will asking Persephonee, “How do you love someone from the underworld” SHUT UP!! 😤

Will was useless and I know what they were trying to go for but if I had a girlfriend (oh I’m a lesbian btw just in case ppl think I’m going harder on this book more than the other books because I’m homophobic bruh I swear I’m not I’m only disappointed in the art itself, NOT the representation which I actually liked) and if I was super good at fighting and they weren’t, I’m sorry but I wouldn’t take them BECAUSE of my love for them. If they were going to be useless on a mission of such life-threatening danger and importance I WOULD NOT TAKE THEM OUT OF KINDNESS. Like skills in medicine and art and music are great and there’s of course nothing wrong w not being a badass fighter (lmao this is me and most readers) but then DONT GO TO SUPER HELL!!! Especially if you have something that makes you more pathetic than being a normal human in Tarturus, his suffering from no sunlight is out of pocket and just makes the story draggg and makes him seem boring and the story more boring. I know they were trying to go for a fish out of water storyline and roll reversal but I think it wasn’t done well enough and overall hurt the story

Also, I’ve heard ppl talk about how it would have been nice to have a book focus on their relationship while at Camp Half-Blood. Like maybe it takes place pre Jason's death and we can just see them living at camp. It’d be chill and we can actually see them as a couple & It would give the energy of readers wanting to go to camp half-blood again like how everyone wanted to go to Hogwarts. Cause we haven’t seen the camp as a fun home since the very early PJO books ;-; (this is just a fun idea I like and I think would have been more manageable for an author but this is FR my opinion on a fun book idea i’d like to read) ALSO this would have been so nostalgic for the older readers who have been here since middle school gobbling up this universe 😌

I know ppl get mad at ppl making fun of Will for being pathetic in tarturous. As saying he’s a child and no one can be happy and sunny and doing well 24/7 which is valid but that’s not really my argument. I like watching characters put in situations where we watch them bend against what we thought they were when put in a hard situation (the masochist in me lol jkjjk). But this I think didn’t work for me because as I’ve said before he’s mainly a background character at the end of one book thrown together with Nico and we as a fandom have mainly made him up. Also, Tarturus was just not as scary or adventure-filled as like any of the other missions from previous PJO books, It didn’t feel as trauma-inducing as everyone in the series tried to explain it as. (again show not tell from the book) Also, I would have liked to have seen Will cool at least once or one reason for me to like him with Nico but I saw him as pretty bland as a character

The writing style felt bad to me because of the show don’t tell part for example telling as “it made him sad and traumatized” when showing would be, you know, actually showing the scenes and this book just felt like 80% telling what they were feeling instead of letting the reader feel the emotions of the scene for themselves

I think that’s another thing I really didn’t like related to the Show Don't Tell. And another hallmark of bad writing was this book was really telling the audience how to feel instead of allowing the story to be powerful enough to do that for itself. This book follows a trend I’ve seen a lot in TV shows where everything kind of feels like detached irony from being on Twitter where you hear everyone’s opinions so the story is written as a wink and a nod like we know what we’re doing and we know what your thinking and how twitter will react to it. Like it’s hard to describe this trend I’ve mainly seen in TV shows and movies recently which always gives me the ick cause it doesn’t feel funny it feels like I’m in a response piece that is breaking the fourth wall and reminds me that I’m in reality watching or reading something instead of actually feeling like I’m in the story. It’s like pseudo-wittiness or something. Tell me if you guys feel this way about some modern tv shows or books, I can't be alone please 😭!!

The stupid toast scene at the end lol The book is like: Do you get it? Did you get it?? They’re opposites! And they attract!! We did the trope you guys!! Also, the stupid Darth Vader scene to start off the book 💀

This whole book made me cringe where I had to constantly get up walk around and lie on the floor before I could continue, only to constantly repeat the cycle 😅

Anyway, idk how to end this review/rant I just had such strong emotions I had to get out probably because I was so excited for this book to come out for like over a year and got back into PJO for a bit and read some of Mark Oshiro’s books and greek mythology and stuff, so I think it wasn’t just me reading any random bad book it disappointed me more that it was poor quality because I wanted to love it so much.

It did have some actually good parts, the troglodytes were cute … I can’t remember the other stuff but it was there I swear lol! If you enjoyed it I’m happy for you! Don’t let me ruin a book you like, you deserve to feel joy 😘💐

I find it pretty funny that Keith David is a president/vice president in Rick and Morty and Saints Row 4. Do you think their universes could be connected?

To be honest with you, I do. ive thought about this since i was like 16, but i also thought the idea was slightly cringe (at the time, now i let my cringe free). i could soo totally see boss and rick getting along so well, the fact theyre both reckless and flirty, the way they both act like "im tough, i dont care about anyone" but in reality they care so much that theyre willing to sacrifice themselves for their loved ones. plus cmon, the fact they both can not only avoid authority so well, but the fact theyve both been able to get out of jail with little to no actual punishment for their crimes? oh thats best friends right there i think. plus we can imply that saints row has some sort of canon/lore connection to adult swim tv show lore anyways, since jimmy - the guy who makes Johnny tag in the clones dlc for saints row 3 - is clearly supposed to be the nerd from robot chicken (literally even featuring the same voice - which iirc is done by seth green)

additionally with the fact that a song from the tim and eric show (the sports theme) as well as the aqua teen hunger force them and a MF doom song being included on the radio sound track? i mean i know adult swim did contribute to the game, but its not entirely clear in what way the adult swim universe is tied into saints row. especially cos they drop nearly all references to it outside of the fact im pretty sure you can have johnny tag and clone aisha as companions in sr4 (not entirely sure though since its been months since i played sr4 last and you do have to unlock them).

plus the line that the president has in the "get schwifty" episode' "...I'm the goddamn president of the united fucking states"... totally sounds like something he'd say when being confronted by boss for his backstabbing...

which honestly not to be tangential but i have to talk about that now bc im sooo realizing how genius it is to make keith backstab boss.... especially because he does it right before you get put into a simulation where you have to fight Julius little? i may hark on saints row 4's writing but goddd the fan service they give to us can be soo good. It almost makes me wonder if keith david is a clone or hologram that zinyak made specifically to betray/trick boss - especially since hes the only one (other than Benjamin king, but this you could argue Ben wasnt immune to it, since it was teased in the cutscene, plus you could make the point that boss doesnt see Ben the same way they see someone like johnny whos been a long time friend and companion and even someone like matt miller, who may be a genuine threat - posessing skills boss doesnt have/understands - but boss still sees him as "lesser" or equal to them bc of who matt is outside of his keyboard) who rejects boss' advances in the ship. especially because his bitterness not only towards boss, but zinyak. He makes a mention of originally campaigning to be the president before "zinyak kicked the stool out from under him", and since hes aware earth is gone... why would he care abt being president of holograms? some of the plot points they make in sr4 are a tad annoying for the reason that they love to set up stuff like this, and the audio log collectables tell us so much, yet, they wont do anything with it unless its inherently funny.

dont get me wrong, love saints row's humor but i just wish they wouldnt sacrifice interesting plots and characters for it. And i wish they would solidify canon more.

TLDR; i do think saints row and rick and morty are connected in some way yes. the way i think the saints row universe is indeed intertwined with other adult swims shows due to saints row 3 giving us plenty of hints that the universe are connected in some way.

Uncle Ricks rocks when it comes to representation

Ok so here me out! I love this man so much and let me explain why ;

So obviously this post is about represention in his books and how i just realised how much this man fucking listen to his readers like holy shit. You can literaly see his improvement in every single books about representation and how much research and cared he took to make sure the representation was accurate.

Yeah in his first couple books it was eafy but since the begining this man had only one goal so that kids who never saw themself could for once have a story about them. Like it litteraly started with his son who had dislexia and adhd but what I admire about him is that he didnt stop there. He could of easily just talked about the subject and people would of still praised him for how woke he was at the time but no. The first serie was all about getting out of abusif relation and how bad parenting is not always about beating the kid. He talked about emotional trauma in so many different ways that i'm certain some kids out there saw that and got the confirmation it was not ok and seeked help. For a kid book this was revolutionary.

In his next serie when fan of the Percy Jackson serie where complaining his lack of diversity (witch true there was a big lack of it). What did he do instead of ignoring it or giving a token character like so many author did in the past he fucking write 4 out of the 7 has POC. All with their own origine and backstory all well written and often not even related solely on their ethnicity like so many POC character are normaly in other book. Like yes their ethnicity and culture were mention but thats has important for writting a POC character then adding other personality trait and fuck he nailed it. A lot of the younger reader werent there when we had the ackward period of time between the book and werent witness of the sheer hapiness of the POC comunity when that happen. Then the LGBT who got more and more outgoing on the internet at that time talked about how nice it would be to have a queer charachter and often headcanon Nico as Gay since he was so relatable to so many people. Then what did uncle Rick do ! he fucking made it happen thats what happen. But so many people were hesitant after all he seemed such like a token character. Witch i agree he kinda was and Uncle Rick realized that as well.

So in his next serie he made it happen the Canon Solangelo who shooked the entire fandom and put everyone feeds covered of fanon for a full month. Omg the discourse and how much people accused him of given inn and accusing him of a fake ally ? Ignoring or maybe not realising that this was not fake allyship but the total inverse. This man listen to his reader and he always had. Wrote about POC character when ask change stuff when he did something he didnt know was wrong. Listen again and again because this man he wrote those books yes for the story but before anything else for the chance of the kids to be able to see themselfs in those character. So yes his story are very driven by the headcanons of fan but thats because thats what his books are all about. To show that these headcanon can be real, to educate people about the struggle of those comunities while simultinusly give to those comunitie a message stronger then i ever saw by an author.

Before concluding this i also want to point out another of my favourite serie he wrote Magnus Chase. This was honeslty my first ever interaction with the Muslim world and the trans world in a normal setting. From a small town where islamophobia and homophobie was very real and very present. These character showed me how normal they are. I was raised open minded and my parent thought me about them but it always in a more educational setting like here they existe dont be racist or homophobic. But as a 14 year old raised in a a white town where other culture resume of who spoke french and who spoke english i was so scared of being disrespectul without wanting to be. This helped me a lot learning the difference between whats accpetable and what not. Because i knew micro-aggressions existed but i didnt know what was a micro-aggression. Like i knew to not be straight up hateful, but could i asked question about their culture? what can I ask without being disrespectful? Do I do stuff that I didn’t realize are hateful etc. Now I'm 20 live in a big city made so many friends from so many places and i can say without any fear Thank you Uncle Rick you are the one who thaught me what genderfluids mean and led me to be less apprehensive of searching and asking more about it, litteraly 3 month after I read the book I met my first trans person and we bonded over Alex in Magnus chase. It also helped me understand more about the Muslim religion and how deep their fate can be but also why it’s so important to them explaining to me what Ramadan was and making me less shy around them and not be afraid to ask question on how I can be a better ally. He also thought me its ok to make mistake while trying to be an ally as long as i make sure i correct it and learn from it. Because no road to allyship is perfect after all we all need to learn. I want people to know that there is no perfect ally from the start and if you are gonna judge someone for their pass instead of their present action are you really searching for ally ?

Rick and Morty dream

So I had a dream and it was pretty interesting so I'm going to write it like it's a fanfic/ story. Or at least attempt to:

So you go to your relatives house. They give you early gifts for your bday. You noticed that in the gifts, there is a Rick and Morty videogame which wasnt the VR version. You question your relative and asked if it was fan made or bootlegged. They reply neither and said it was the real deal. You didnt believe them and was going to walk off. The relative jumped up up and showed you the game and a new console, which for some strange reason looked exactly like a toaster oven. Now you think they are just pulling your leg. They set up the new console and waved you over. You obliged, just to see what they were up to. When the relative opened the game case, you didn't see a disc, but a small microchip. It was similar to the one in pocket Mortys. Your relative slammed the chip to the side of your body and just as you were going to yell at them, a green portal encased the toaster oven and a hand pulled you into it.

You wake up, surrounded by 3 other "players". Rick and Morty ran into the room and slammed the door behind them. They looked around and saw you guys.

"Woah, look at this Morty. We got URRRRP some special snowflakes here."

"What are they Rick?"

"Don't know, don't care."

Rick then starts looking around the room, presumably to look for a way out. The other "players" looks just as confused as you, but they werent necessarily human. One looked like Twice from Bnha, but blue. Another looked like a spcial infected from Resident Evil, and the other looked like sentient ant solider from Solo leveling.

Morty came up to you, persumingly because you looked the most non threatening and you noticed you didn't have any abnormalities.

"Come on Morty, we got stuff to do."

"Um, why don't we bring them along? They look like they need help."

"Fat URRRP chance. They are probably OC/ reader inserts in a universe where our world or other alternate realities are nothing, but a source of entertainment. The last thing we need to deal with is a bunch morons, who think they have plot armor."

"What?"

"I'm not bringing them. End. Of. Discussion."

Rick and Morty start arguing very abruptly. You during this time, tried to figure out what the hell is happening. However, you noticed, you couldn't really move well. As if someone was hindering or trying to control your movements. You looked up and see Rick beating up the other "players".

"I am not adventuring with someone's half assed attempt of an original charecter! They can die just like every other fucking being in this universe!"

He threw the Ant solider to the wall of the room, he shot the zombie looking player, and placed a collar on twice, which seemed to be choking him as he gasped for air. He was approaching you. No doubt, trying to teach you a lesson, when Morty tried to intercept. Rick pushes him away and he falls to the ground. Morty sees Rick get within breathing distance and reaches towards you two in a dramatic "noooooooo" fashion. You scared, angry, and confused, just wanted Rick away from you. Just as you wanted to push Rick away, your arm became "free" and did push Rick away, however with only the one arm. Which was really inefficient.

Rick looks at you with fury, but curiosity. Morty seems to make a connection almost instantly.

"It seems this person can only mimic me Rick."

Rick closely observed and examined you.

"Yeah no shit, look at their arm. There is a Manipulator chip. Idiot didnt attach it to either the brain or central nervous system. This person has some free will, but not all of it. And since the Manipulator chip was suppose to be on Mortys it seemed to sync into your brainwaves and make this sucker do only things you would do, but out of their will." Rick to a swig of his flask.

"Ah gee Rick, you make me sound like a slave owner."

"Isnt what this exactly is. They have a free will, their own thoughts, beliefs, yada yada, but they can only listen to you."

Rick turns around and starts fiddling with a trap door on the floor of the room. The ant seemed to be getting up and slowly closing in on Rick, Twice was no longer gasping for air, and the zombie looked dead.

"At least, one of these snowflakes I dont have to worry about, it's like having an extra Morty, but doesn't look or smell like one."

Rick opened the hatch and grinned manically with drool.

"You! Come here!" Rick gestured at you. You didnt want to go, but Morty was already walking towards Rick, so you subsequently walked towards Rick. Fortunately Twice thought Rick gestured to him.

"Yes?"

"No, not you!" He grabbed Twice and flipped him onto the ground. Twice groaned and got up. He was walking away before Rick grabbed him.

"Actually it doesnt matter who."

Rick then threw him down the hatch which Twice screamed and grunted as he fell.

"Is it clear?" Rick yelled.

A pained groan answered him back. He gestured to the remaining party to get in. Just as he did that the door they ran in from busted open and Gromflomites start shooting up the room. Ant solider became swiss cheese. You, Twice, Rick, and Morty succeed to evade them as all went down the hatch.

The scene changes and you guys looked to be stuck in an abandoned office building. It looked horror-esque. Twice was gone and you seemed to be following some of Rick's friends. One looked like Sir hammerlock from borderlands, and some creature that looked half human, half the thing, from the 1982 horror, sci-fi film. As you guys were running down the stairs. You had better movements of your body. You are able to move freely, but it feeling like trudging water. As everyone was decending the stairs, you stopped and looked down a corridor, it was dark and creepy, but with your new found freedom you could explore and find another way out without them.

"Don't go down there, you can only stick with us." It was Morty who said that and gestured you to follow. You rolled your eyes, but your body started to stiffen up again and forcibly made you follow Morty.

All of you got into a car, had a chase montage, flew over an overpass onto the roof of an abandoned warehouse and crash the car. Now all of you were again in a room. Slowly but surely being surrounded by authorities.

Everything happened quickly. Sir hammerlock betrayed Rick and did an evil monologue. Rick could care less and gave the equivalent of a blow job to the half human/ half the thing creature during the monologue. Which Sir hammerlock yelled and scolded the both of them as Morty was there. Morty seemed to be tampering with the elevator and you helping so you really couldn't see anything to see if what they claim was true. Rick then proclaimed that he injected a serum to the creature hybrid to fight Sir hammerlock and his associates. The elevator started up and the door busted open again. The creature hybrid went berserk and started tearing up authority figures limb from limb. Rick told us to wait until the perfect time to escape in which Sir Hammerlock yelled,

"Haven't lost your touch, Rick!"

You three got outside, jumped on a moving bus (the double decker busses typicallyed used for tourists). As the bus passed a bridge, Rick yelled jump. Rick and Morty jumped off the bridge and Rick used his Portal Gun. You, however, stood on the bus and couldn't move. You did however hear a command.

Stay and fight.

And it wasnt Morty's usual voice, but the voice of a fucking old man.

A: How did you come up with the title to Safe and Sound?

Ooh, let me think! :) I wanted to express that beyond everything, even though it appears to be true, neither of them are really safe and sound. Not with their night jobs. Not with everything they deal with. The title was more ironic or sarcastic than anything. They’re safe and sound from everything but themselves...

H: How would you describe your style?

Ummm...all over the place? Sometimes what I write comes out kinda like poetry (I like to think) and sometimes it comes out super descriptive. Other times it’s almost all dialogue. I think the best word is flowy? I like to imagine it all flows, the different styles, the words, into something that resembles me? I think my writing style is me in word form. Crazy and different and not really like anything or anyone else's, whether that’s good or bad.

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Tons! So many I can’t even remember all their names! Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, J. R. R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, @cdelphiki , @lemonadegarden , @cerusee , @renecdote , my father, like, that’s not even half of them! All of their writing is fantastic and they all have inspired and influenced me before! Whether that’s with an idea or just a simple thought like: ‘Good for them, I love their stuff. Maybe I should write again?’ 

T: Are there any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

Oof. Yes. Big yes. Only a few, and it’s kinda mean to say this, but if it has a trope of shows signs of one I don’t dig, I’ll just click that back button. I think most of the tropes are smaller ones too, but I just... ugh. I can’t stand them!

The one I probably dislike most is Zombies. I have read things before with them, but usually accidentally or it’s only creatures similar to zombies that can be cured. As a kid, I had a crippling fear of them and it’s kinda followed me into my adult life. I can’t read anything with zombies. It’s always sad and gross and violent. Just... eeeewww.

The others are ones I’m not a huge fan of, but if it’s written well or by someone I like I’ll usually read it. Highschool AUs where they don’t have any part of their original story and it’s pretty much just character turned into teens and thrown into a normal life. Really, any monster AU, just because I’m not a huge horror person.

U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

@cdelphiki for sure. They just write Damian and Tim bonding soooo well, something there is a definite lack of, I feel. Their story, Life Happens, really was always a bright spot in my day too. Summer was kinda tough, mostly cause of a few big health scares with my grandfather, and their fic always made my day better. I was traveling a lot between cities as well, so to have something to make my day less stressful was always amazing!

@caramelmachete because their fic, The Bells of St. Clements, was truly stunning. Like, it has to be in my top three fics I’ve ever read. I loved it so much, and I reread it a lot. 

@audreycritter . I love all their fics. They’re always so in-depth and so beautiful. I especially love their fic, The Dark Knight Strikes Back. I was expecting fluff and everything when I first read it and it was, but it was so much more! 

Z: Major Character Death-do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?

I am guilty of writing character death and reading it. Sometimes a good cry is just what I need. There’s also something very cleansing reading something sad, almost, dare I say happy? It’s sad, yeah, but sometimes it’s more. I feel like I’m not explaining my thoughts very well, but eh.

So, I can not stand reading anything with Alfred dying. I just nope right out of there. Alfred is the glue that hold everyone together at times! What would they all be without him?! I just can’t handle that!

A: Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

Honestly I'm pretty damn proud of the unposted second chapter of the current wip, but if I had to pick a completed fic then I'd have to go with like i've never been. its soft and good and i will hopefully someday finish the sequel

K:  Do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?

almost any fic with the tag combo of [character] Needs A Hug, [character] Gets A Hug, but really any found family where someone gets emotional support that canon denied them,,,,, mmmm thats the good shit

i also have a deep and terrible love for emotional reunion scenes of any sort. within the bounds of canon logic? please. time travel? sure. ghosts? sure. reincarnation? sure. someone haunting a dog? fuck it, why not. Let Them Hug. by any means necessary.

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

@/fialleril of Double Agent Vader fame was the first example i saw of really complex worldbuilding in fic, especially when it comes to folklore and mythology. the detail put into that series is fucking astonishing, as is the way that the myths intertwine with the plot, as is the figurative language, as is the everything else.

there are a fair few others from when i was first picking up fic that i would like to name, but they all seem to have changed usernames and/or deleted entirely :/

in terms of original authors, i'm going to reluctantly admit to a combination of a few really disconnected names.

The first is Homer?? i guess??? the Odyssey has always been one of my absolute favorites, but the epithets and descriptions (especially in the Fitzgerald translation) have been a huge huge huge influence on me. also the copious number of emotional reunion scenes. also the mythology, of course. i tried to write a mianite fix-it based on the Odyssey, actually, because the Odyssey slaps, actually,

The Secret Garden was also a childhood favorite, so i have to throw Francis Hodgson Burnett into the ring as well. the descriptions are genuinely spectacular. i can still recite certain parts from memory bc the imagery was That Fucking Good. the book has its issues, like most books its age, but it shaped a huge portion of my writing style.

Rick Riordan (PJO, specifically), Kathryn Lasky (Guardians of Ga'hoole), and Christopher Paolini (Inheritance Cycle) are the others that really spring to mind. they all had fantastic worldbuilding, as well as either stellar characterization or a mastery of tone. i haven't read any of their stuff in years, but i adored it as a kid.

V: Are there certain comments you’ve received on your stories that have stuck with you?

oh my god i got a beautiful wonderful incredible comment on are you really gonna save the world that would have made my ap lang teacher proud and i have been coasting on that since december. highkey the best christmas gift i got last year.

how did you get the idea for your url: initially i had the url of tattooeyes, which was just some rando shit i came up with in 2008. But after i saw btvs i became so in love with it, started following buffy blogs, and started making original content for the first time in tumblr. i basically became a buffy blog and i wanted to reflect that so i settled for bisummers because... its true? Buffy Summers is canonically bisexual and I love her so... I have a few other that are great and i always think about switching but i hate the fact that all the stuff I’ve made is out there without proper links so probably not gonna change it.
