paul retreated into a life of fantasy, stoicism, domesticity, and remote narrowness once yoko came into the picture for good. i think this was because john intuitively understood and balanced out paul. paul often has a tendency to act very quickly and anxiously when making an attempt to keep himself momentarily secure in the face of a perceived “threat.” this leads to self-destructive habits. john recognized this and helped paul avoid slipping into his mind and spiraling. i think john expected some sort of different reaction to yoko from paul than what he ultimately got. as much as john was necessary for paul’s emotional regulation, i think john’s insecurities shrouded his understanding of just how dependent paul was on him.
regarding yoko, i think paul’s hurt was read as disinterest. john was probably attempting to threaten paul, who always tries to communicate through art and stories, by acting like yoko was a better romantic, sexual, and ARTISTIC partner. prob because smth happened in india that was sexual or direct (as alluded to by numerous sources) and challenged the very order of their creative world/partnership. because of john’s outward and purposeful love, admiration, and inclusion of yoko, paul panics and frantically cheats and sleeps around and dates to try and find a similar kind of woman as both a weapon and shield to use against john.
paul saw john as god almost. i get a bit annoyed when john/paul discussions seem to overlook paul’s pure adoration and idolization of john, and this remains true even today. i think john assumed that his love was too great to be matched, or that john was unloveable, or that paul was indifference to being abandoned/abandoning john. instead, paul reacts to anything john gives him; the good AND the bad. john was paul’s rock, superior, best friend, partner, lover, rival, challenger, placater, and regulator. john’s actions usually had the ability to help curate paul into the best and most pure version of himself. now, they were causing paul to crash. but because paul is paul, and he can never appear to be shaken or hurt or shocked by anything, he plays the same game.
it destroys them both.
EDIT: i wanted to add this; and i DO think they understood and loved each other like no other. because they both saw their darkest capabilities and their greatest potential. they both went from being angry, lonely, traumatized people to artistic prodigies. john understood that paul’s indirectness came from a place of domestic unrest and paul knew that john was just trying to make it on his own. they bounced off one another. they all allowed their hurt feelings to dig them into holes they couldn’t get out of, both with each other and other people.

having anti punitive justice morals sucks because you want to say "man that guy sucks he should get hit with hammers until he dies" but you also want to make it clear you don't think anyone should be put in charge of the 'hit people with hammers until they die" machine.

my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."

if you're feeling powerless right now—and god knows I am—here's a reminder you can donate to the National Network of Abortion Funds, the Trans Law Center, Gaza Soup Kitchen, the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and hundreds of other charities that will work to mitigate the damage that has been and will continue to be inflicted
life continues. we still have the capacity to do good, important work. that matters

Not “Only my reading of canon is correct” or “Interpretations are subjective and all valid” but a secret third thing, “More than one interpretation can be valid but there’s a reason your English teacher had you cite quotes and examples in your papers, you have to have a strong argument that your interpretation is actually supported by the text or it is just wrong and I’m fine with telling you it’s wrong, actually.”

Being kink positive makes it really hard to be a hater of media rip. I used to love watching “the WORST book I’ve read this year” booktube videos but now its like I hear them ask, “Who is this werewolf smut even for?” Omegaverse fans, next question. “Why would you write this?” Because they find it sexy, can we stop focusing on the ewie yucky kink part and focus on the fact that the author used the word knot five times in a single scene? It’s bad werewolf erotica, but it’s not bad because it’s werewolf erotica like come on

So there's something I want to say re: intentionally withholding your vote, and I want to do it without coming across as condescending or dismissive.
I've worked as a field organizer in two campaigns, 2010 and 2012, and my job was to help turnout the vote for Democratic candidates up and down the ticket. Technology may have changed, but people are still knocking on doors for specific voters the way they were 12 years ago.
If you say you're not voting/voting 3rd party, the campaign volunteer is supposed to mark that and move on. Their job, in the final month of the election, is to make sure the campaign's supporters have all the information and resources they need to cast a vote.
They aren't collecting data on why you're withholding your vote. They aren't submitting opinion polling results to the campaign. Something like 155 million people voted in the 2020 election, and if you say you're not voting, the campaign is not going to waste a volunteer's time and morale begging you to vote when there are literally millions of other voters to turn out.
Let me repeat that: The campaign does not track why you're not voting. They simply note your vote is not a priority for turnout and move on.
I say this because I see a lot of promotion of non-voting like that's a boycott, when the function is not the same. A boycott is a coordinated mass refusal to engage with an institution—which sounds similar if you see a vote as a good or service to withhold. Unfortunately, it's not.
A vote is a choice you're making as part of a community hiring committee. Your abstention doesn't prevent someone from being hired. It just lowers the threshold for the worst candidate to succeed.
All this to say: In my direct experience as an organizer, abstaining from the vote sends a message. That message is not "You need to try harder to win my vote." It's "Don't waste time on me."

the recent eye color post on yesornopolls is intriguing me a lot bc. well. statistically more people should be answering yes to the question here than they are. but obvs the point of yesornopolls is yes or no questions so we can’t exactly do a follow up there. so i’m going into more depth here because i can do what i want
obvs this poll isn’t gonna get as much traction as the poll blog’s will, but it’ll still be interesting to look at the results of it and compare them methinks
(bee tee dubs if your eyes change color based on lighting answer with the color they are most often. pick whatever color you’d put on a legal ID. also the heterochromia button is there with complete heterochromia in mind but if you have central/sectoral heterochromia and feel none of the other options fit you then. go for it i suppose)
i know i forgot gray eyes can you all please relax about it. this is a poll on tumblr dot com it is not the end of the world if i forgot your eye color
