Assignment: Earth. Usually, everything we hear on the bridge comes through as translated English, but in this episode we can clearly hear several different languages coming through as Uhura monitors the Earth's radio stations, and I just thought that was really neat! I can only assume that, canonically, she could have chosen to listen to the boradcasts in translation, but she decided to monitor them in their original language, completely confident in her ability to understand without assistance.

(Not to mention the fact that these boradcasts are overlapping with one another, she's listening to at least two voices at once. How talented she is! *swoon* )

I've been working on it! It's a bit of an endeavour because I learned coding so I could make some bonus Tumblr content. Several people can attest to this lol. I would not shut up about my progress as I was learning

Anyway, not all the coding works through Ao3 so if I want to use a work skin to add visual elements to the media aspect, I have to adapt everything and test it on the archive

Towenda Choir Orchestra - Inspector Gadget 1983

Inspector Gadget is a media franchise that began in 1983 with the DiC Entertainment animated television series Inspector Gadget. It was co-created by Andy Heyward, Jean Chalopin and Bruno Bianchi, and was originally syndicated by DiC Audiovisuel and Lexington Broadcast Services Company. Since the original series, there have been many spin-offs based on the show, including additional animated series, video games, and films. The franchise follows the adventures of a sympathetic but dimwitted cyborg police inspector named Gadget as he investigates the criminal schemes of Dr. Claw and his organization, M.A.D., and fruitlessly attempts to stop him. However, neither side is aware that it is Gadget's niece, Penny, and her dog, Brain, who are truly responsible for thwarting M.A.D.

The original Inspector Gadget theme song was composed by composer Shuki Levy, and was based on Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King". The original French version has lyrics while the English and most dubs based on the English version are without. The theme is considered by many to be one of the most iconic and most recognizable theme songs in the world. Levy has been credited to the music of a huge amount of shows such as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Digimon: Digital Monsters, Sylvanian Families, Heathcliff, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (poll #543), The Mysterious Cities of Gold (poll #545), and Lucky Luke.

Several early rap records sampling the Inspector Gadget theme song were released in 1985. The Kartoon Krew also released "Inspector Gadget" on ZYX Music, which contains vocal samples and quotes from the popular cartoon series, reenacted by the rap group for the song. East New York rap group Bad Boys & K-Love released a record on Starlite Records, "Bad Boys", featured on the UK hip hop compilation Street Sounds Electro 9. Following the trend, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh used samples from the Inspector Gadget theme song on their single "The Show". The theme song has been heavily sampled in the years since then. California-based punk band Lagwagon recorded a short instrumental cover of the theme song on their 1992 album Duh.

After hearing about the death of David Lynch, I went looking for this fantastic set of "Twin Peaks" themed commercials commissioned by Coca-Cola Japan from their Georgia range of canned coffee, but was surprised that no one seems to have posted it previously.

Broadcast in 1992 and 1993, this series of commercials was actually written and directed by Lynch himself. The series tells the story of a Japanese police detective, Takeshi "Ken" Saito (played by Takanori Kikuchi, most famous for portraying Kaoru Kino in "Kamen Rider Agito"), who asks Agent Dale Cooper to search for his missing fiancée, Asami Hara.

Apart from Kyle MacLachlan reprising his role, Catherine E. Coulson (The Log Lady), Kimmy Robertson (Lucy Moran), Harry Goaz (Deputy Sheriff Andy Brennan), Michael Horse (Deputy Sheriff Tommy 'Hawk' Hill) and Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson), also return in their roles.

The campaign explained and expanded the story of the four commercials with additional material printed on the side of 32 special edition Georgia cans of coffee. A planned sequel to the TV commercials was halted when when the campaign did not increase the sales of Georgia range of canned coffee as much as Coca-Cola had expected.

Wait… How is it a critique of Christianity and the patriarchy? I got the other things it’s critical of, but not those two.

The critique of Christianity is mostly confined to Episode 3 as of yet. In the flashback where the Graves kids visit their grandparents, there are crosses over the beds the kids are instructed to sleep in, the TV shows evangelical broadcasts (I think it's mentioned that Leyley gets some of her more colorful language and ideas about women from them), and the grandfather talks about giving his life savings to the church after he dies. Grandpa Graves is a vile person. He makes derogatory statements about his wife and children, he's definitely beaten Andy and probably beaten Leyley as well, and he urges Douglas and Renee to beat Leyley and send her to boarding school. To justify his cruelty, he references tenets of his faith.

As for the critique of patriarchy, the worst characters in the game are mostly misogynists. Grandpa Graves is verbally and physically abusive to every woman within reach, and the Surgeon refuses to acknowledge Renee in their conversation and tells Douglas to "calm his woman." Andrew abused Julia and pressured her into sex, and in the worst endings, he becomes a wifebeating rapist.

The only characters who have a somewhat happy relationship are Douglas and Renee, whose characterization defies traditional gender roles, apart from Douglas being the primary provider for the family. Renee makes most of the decisions in their lives. Renee is more outspoken, and Douglas is more quiet, except when he's telling other men off for condescending to his wife. And they do femdom stuff in bed. They're awful people like almost everyone else in TCOAAL, but their relationship seems to be genuinely healthy and loving.
