What would you write if DC hired you to make a tempest/garth comic? What would be the genre, mood, setting, etc? Would it be plot focused or lore focused?
OH BUDDY
well personally i would end up ignoring n52 and rebirth so,, sorry to the like two rebirth garth stans i know but ajdgjlh
but anyway i've had this idea for a more tempest centric series that feels very like,, scooby doo ish? not full on detective series cause that's not his vibe, but like a mix of stumbling into different magical mysteries, fighting a monster of the week, and discovering different magic things! in my perfect aquafam world, koryak never died and garth got with letifos so both of them would accompany him!
in my head, this series would have to take place after the tempest series and vol 5,, tbh i'm not sure where exactly it would fall on the timeline!! all i know is that it would definitely happen after vol 5
but anyway, the series would start with garth mentally reeling from defeating slizzath, and in a "what the fuck is life about" kind of way, he decides to learn more about shayeris and his family history. at this point, he does know things, but he would want to know more about the day-to-day stuff and the culture, not just the all-powerful wizardy stuff. anyway, letifos wants to go with him <3 they aren't together at this point, but the series would provide a nice slow burn for them to be official by the end. i Know garth usually jumps headfirst into his relationships, but i would want this series to be more introspective so he would be thinking things through a lot more and have some hesitance. Anyway, once he gets to the ruins of the city, some weird ass monster jumps out and they have to fight it!! oh no!!!
i'm thinking that garth doing his little ritual thing either freed other bad guys from the fucking underwater prison dimension OR garth just,, doing magic awakens a bunch of shit cause they go "owo? someone is using powerful magics 👀 time to rise and grind!!" aldgh
so anyway, they just get pulled into fighting random monsters and protecting random people with magic. it would definitely have a silver age vibe with each issue being its own complete story (maybe occasionally spanning two or three). in regard to the overall vibe though,, yknow the vibe of the first live action scooby film? literally that! like it's grown up and there's a lot of dangerous shit going on and it goes into serious topics and has serious, darker moments, but it's also just a little silly goofy aldhg the series would start being dark and angsty then gradually get lighter as garth not only leans more into his magic abilities but also allows himself to be happy and help people the way he wants to.
it would definitely be more lore focused! i would really want to go in on insane atlantean history, magical worldbuilding, etcetc. the aquafam has a lot of good characters for the audience to learn things through, but garth will honestly always be #1 for me in that regard. that's why i would want this series to be a little more scooby doo-ish, so that garth is learning things/figuring shit out at the same pace as the readers!

Story ideas below:
Laura Fell: Darla Aquista has a crush on Tim Drake in Robin 1993 before she is shot and killed then brought back to life by some dude named Warlock (after her dad pays him) and he makes her do crime for him .At some point she trains with enchantress after spending 1 year in magical jail. I don't have any story ideas for her but I think she should get to beat up Tim with her magic powers as a treat. Or a fight then team up. DC seems to like putting Tim and Bernard in anthology comics sometimes and she's friends with both of them so.
Lionmane: Lionmane is a hawkman and batwing villain (and possibly others) who looks like a lion sort of. his is technically cheating b/c he appeared in Luke Fox's Batwing comic, which is less than 20 years ago. But his motive in Hawkman seemed partially to be wanting to have money to hire women to hang out with him, I think his valentine day special would be about finding furries exist.
Eric Forrester: He gets into a relationship with Raven because he wants to have sex with her and steal his soul to prevent his body from becoming... IDK a robot? Can't remember. No story ideas for him.
Paul: a dude who has a crush on raven at college and stans azarath. he brought back brother blood who had a crush on raven and wanted to make her marry him 20 years ago we should bring back the original raven hanger on except. he was a civilian and not a supervillain so he just punched a guy who made her made in college and then she was like "Do u understand what pacifist means bitch?" He'd be like trying to contact her on superhero social media IDK. Maybe he and Eric can be in a Raven's regrettable exes/near misses flashback
Linda Page: she's a socialite turned nurse who wants t od osomething with her life and who dated bruce in teh 1940s. I think we should see flashback panels of her shaming him when they are dating and now that bruce is more actively involved in philanthropy in his public ID present day her can be like "My shaming worked <3"
Koryak and Kako: Kako is an Inupiaq woman who arthur has a one night stand with when they are both teenagers and he's living in her house. She eventually gives birth to Koryak, Arthur's biological son, and then dies and becomes a fire elemental and Koryak inherits some water powers despite aquaman not having water powers. Anyway I think Aquaman should hang out with his ex and his son and we should remember that Koryak and his mom exist. They can be fighting magical crime or whatever.
Lori Lemaris: I don't know much about her besides her being Superman's mermaid college sweetheart, but oh well it's a valentine's day issue.
Letifos: a shark mermaid (automatically makes her badass and hot) who never wears a shirt and is fed up with Garth but also concerned about him, and he mistakes her for being Tula, his dead ex GF. I think Letifos and Garth should get together. As a treat <3
Degaton and Mechanique: I only read the Young All Stars plot Mechanique showed up in once so the details are hazy. she might have been acting like she was in a relationship with Degaton? Anyway, Degaton is here because he's amusingly pathetic. Like in a JSA issue he was talking about how he got a victory over the JSA because he was using his time traveling powers to watch stargirl cry after being dumped by her boyfriend. I think he'd posting on incel boards about how women only want to use you for... whatever mechanique was getting out of the relationship I strongly feel she betrayed him but I can't remember the details well.
Trevor Barnes: He's Wonder Woman's boyfriend from Phil Jimenez's run I think people should remember he exists. He works for the U.N, and is insanely busy like she is. IIRC he had a younger brother who wanted to be wonder boy but this can be another comic i only read once and misremembered details of.

*THE* mean-girl-dean-girl's Supernatural reboot MEGAPOST!
I'm gonna stick a little "keeping reading" here because hoooooo boy, this is a very long post.
Let's start with
Plot
Season 1
Dean kills John while they are out on a hunt in a crime of passion, but Dean doesn't remember because he blacked out. Cue Dean going to Stanford to get Sam and tell him "Dad's on a hunting trip... and he hasn't been home in a couple days."
The audience doesn't know what happened to John, but slowly figures it out with Dean and Sam as Dean slowly remembers what happened that night.
The entire first season, the boys are following the trail John left and fighting monsters as well. They find out Dean was with John, Sam realizes Dean has an unreliable memory, they have heart to hearts about their childhood and the fire, they find John's body, "how could you kill Dad?" but maybe Dean didn't kill dad, whooaaaaaa, misdirection.
It was actually good ole yeller eyes (Azazel) and he made it look like Dean killed John.
Okay, now let's move on to the first episode
Not sure how the opening would work, I would like the story of the fire to be revealed over the course of the first season, but maybe the opening scene could be a little bit of an establishing character relationships and backstory, idk, I haven't thought that far yet.
I'm thinking maybe it's like, Dean gets back to a motel room covered in blood and he listens to a voicemail on his phone from John saying he was on a hunt or something, I don't really know lol.
HOWEVER
I do know that after the intro rolls, we get a scene of Sam waking up to his alarm and "Nine to Five" by Dolly Parton starts playing.
Y'all know where this is going.
Cue a montage of Sam's normal Stanford college life (him sitting through lectures, walking through the campus with friends) spliced with scenes of Dean absolutely slaughtering a nest of vampires (or some other monsters, whatever works best.)
But
Now onto
Characters!!! (And descriptions)
Dean Winchester
Some lovely person on this site made edits of Dean with platinum blond hair and it made me feel some kind of way so we're doing that, homie's gonna have platinum blond hair
Side note about the hair, later when the brothers are running from the FBI he dyes it a dirty blond/light brown (insert jackles hair color controversy here) as a disguise.
He also gets tattoos because we were robbed.
Speaking of tattoos, concept: when Dean comes back from Hell, all of his tattoos are gone. His body is a clean slate, devoid of tattoos, scars, etc. So he gets his tattoos done all over again, which he doesn't mind because he made some bad, drunk tattoo decisions in his youth.
(And before you ask, yes, he does get one for Cas, either a bee or Cas's name in enochian, something cute.)
Dean goes to therapy after Sam gets sent to the Cage.
It's actually court mandated because he got in trouble, lol, he would never go to therapy on his own.
Along with the hair, Dean gets to be the grade A twunk we all know he is.
Sam Winchester
His hair gets longer in every scene he's in
No jk, but imagine
King of Microaggressions
Sam starts off like the sweetheart he is in season 1 but in later seasons he starts enjoying killing a little too much...
It's that demon blood, ba-by!!!
He brings up issues of morality to Dean, i.e. killing monsters who aren't hurting anyone. (Yes I know this is contradictory to my previous statement, but these two facets of Sam can and will coexist.)
Sam and Jess's relationship is explored further, meaning we'll need to start with a different inciting incident, but that's fine, I think everyone can agree fridgings are *(thumbs down)*
Sam doesn't truly know what happened the night of the fire until later, and then he understands why Dean is so protective of him.
Jess
She gets to live beyond the first episode
She is also trans
No, I don't feel like I have to explain myself and I won't 💜
She urges Sam to join Dean in a search for their brother, kind of gets pulled into the hunter lifestyle by association lol.
She dies on a rusty nail after fighting vampires on a routine hunt with Sam
No jk!!!
But imagine....
She's amazing and I love her and Lucifer also uses her as leverage against Sam and possesses her because I think that'd be cool.
She supports Sam 100% and also she and Dean are buddies, pals if you will.
She meets Cas Thee El and immediately she Knows, that is a homosexual.
She dies still so that we can have a Saileen Endgame but she's not dying the first episode or in a fridging. Not on my watch.
Castiel
He gets to keep his raw, light-fixture-exploding power.
I want more of that "I pulled you out of hell, I can throw you back in" energy except over dumb shit like Dean not cleaning up after himself.
He looks like a Dilf in every scene he's in, yeah, that's right, dilf with a capital D for *(GUNSHOTS)* *(gets sent to horny jail)*
Claire
She gets pink hair
And more time with Cas
And maybe a nose piercing
Feel like she should be able to kill a couple angels onscreen, punch a couple homophobes
She gets to meet Jack and teaches him swears and fun slang words.
She deserves it.
Jack
I says "that's my baby and I'm proud."
Jack starts off as a baby, but like Amara he grows up super quickly.
Like, baby to 11 year old in a couple days or less.
This is because Jack's emotional age on the show is on par with that of a 5th grader.
It's at this point when he's a young kid that he runs away from the Bunker and shenanigans ensue.
It's also at this point that Dean threatens to k*ll him.
(Still not sure if I want that in my Supernatural (threatened infanticide? In my Supernatural? It's more likely than you think) but we'll see. We'll see.)
Throughout a majority of season 13, Jack is like an 11 y.o. kid
Season 14 he's like a 16 y.o. teenager
Season 15 he's 21, you get the picture.
Listen, I love Alex Calvert a lot. He's great.
But Jack is a child and should be a child.
Kelly Kline
Kelly, baby, stay right where you are, you're perfect.
Eileen
SHE DOESN'T DIE
SHE GETS TO BE IN THE FINALE BECAUSE SHE'S AMAZING AND I LOVE HER.
BLURRY WIFE WHO? I ONLY KNOW SAILEEN ENDGAME!
She teaches Claire and Jack swears in sign-language. Castiel is not impressed.
John
J*hn W*nchester stans, DNI.
He's dead.
We only see him in flashbacks and only sometimes hear his voice in voice overs.
He's not "down the road" from Dean in Heaven, in fact he instead gets to wander around in some Purgatory like Hell for the rest of his time :)
People who get to say "fuck" on the show:
Cas (but only Once)
Jody
Bobby
Now onto other things
I want more of
Ghostfacers
(they need more screentime because I love them)
Dean/Benny
We know they had a thing.
They definitely had a thing.
Demon Dean
Again, I feel like more should've been done with this. All that build up for what, 2 episodes? was not utilized well at all.
Dean's Bisexuality
Straight Dean truthers DNI, my Supernatural is a show about love and being true to yourself
You think Supernatural is a show about 2 straight brothers fighting monsters?
Naw bitch, this is a show about the Gay Experience
He will get to have relations with men on this show.
Of course, only after John dies does he, y'know, display it. Maybe he kisses Cas on his dad's grave just to fuck John over, make him roll in grave.
We all agree John would be/is a homophobe piece of shit, right?
Okay, glad we're on the same page.
Dads
3 men and a baby with Jack is what I'm saying.
I love it when the Trio are father-figures to younger troubled characters they see themselves in, even better if it's like reluctant-but-loving father figure, oh, that trope gets me every time :'^)
Dadstiel and DadDean are my favorites, but I like it when Sam plays "Uncle Sam" to kids too lol.
"Fellas, is it gay to want a tight knit family with your husband, his son, his vessel's daughter, your brother, his wife, your cop mother figure and her wife and their adopted daughters? Asking for a friend."
Garth
Biggest flaw of Supernatural was underutilizing Garth.
I will never not be bitter that Garth was only in like, 7 episodes out of the whole 15 season series.
Every episode with Garth gets immediately 5 times better.
I love Garth.
Follow ups on characters who had entire episodes featured around them and then just... vanished???
This is mostly about Jesse, the magic kid whose imagination ruled an entire town like, his daddy was a demon and nothing came of that kid??? Only one episode about him?? No follow up???
KID CAN MANIPULATE REALITY AND WE'RE NOT GONNA GET A FOLLOW UP ON THAT?????
Uh, there was that one episode with Ennis the guy whose girlfriend was killed by a monster? I think?? Who we never see again, that was weird.
Tamara from season 3, episode 1.
And of course-
Cassie
She was so cool, and then we never saw her again :////
She gets to be a badass.
Religious imagery
As a former Catholic school student who has become for the most part, disillusioned with religion, religious imagery in TV shows like Supernatural make my brain go "brrrrrr."
Fun episodes!!!
Like, after season 6 or so, there's a drop in funny episodes
I'm talking Changing Channels, The French Mistake type stuff. (Scoobynatural is an outlier and should not be counted.)
So anyway
In my version we would have more fun episodes
I'm thinking
GENDER-SWAP EPISODE, BABY!!
(why they didn't do that in the original, we'll never know.)
An episode where Dean gets to wear eyeliner
That's it, end of post.
I want less
Racism
Yeah I feel like this is self explanatory, nearly every reoccurring character in SPN is white, and black side characters normally die in the episode they first appear in, or they'll be featured as a villain (Uriel, Raphael, Billie, etc)
Also there's a lot of... uh... asian fetishism featured in the show (what with "Busty Asian Beauties) that's really gross, also Kevin was a bit of a stereotype...
Also also it's super yucky how they kill the gods from other religions like???? Uh??? That's super disrespectful, let's not do that????
I know Supernatural is like, inherently racist because monsters are a separate race that are seen as some dangerous "other" that must be eradicated by hunters in a form of genocide-
Okay we won't get into that but
Still
Stop killing all your POC
Fridgings/Unecessary murders of female characters
I know Supernatural starts with a fridging, so this will be a hard thing to remedy, but
One death that really pissed me off was the death of Charlie
Yeah, that was pointless and we're not doing that. Charlie gets to live and be an awesome aunt to Jack.
And also Claire
Charlie Bradbury Superiority
Charlie and Garth get to meet because they're nerd/geek solidarity.
British Men of Letters
I fucking hate these guys
They're "litcherally" the worst.
The worst part is that the actors they have playing the British AREN'T. EVEN. BRITISH.
And you can tell
Uh, and that's all for now, I'll add more later.
tag list for people who liked my "if this post gets one like I'll post my SPN reboot masterpost" post.

Hello 👋 How are things going? First I just want to write that you have amazing creativity and super writing skills and you are so sweet for answering our nagging ;) questions. I hope you can answer a question of mine... What does Slade think of every individual in the Bat-Family and the Titans? I just reread the chapter where Slade was telling his few thoughts on Kory to Dick so I'm guessing Slade has his own opinions of the people in Dick's life
Hey, thanks for the ask!
Hmmm, so, I don’t think Slade really thinks about the Titans and Batfamily a lot except for how they relate to Dick. So, all of these opinions will likely be filtered through that or how they would do in a battle. (I’m going to focus on the original Titans here just because the newer Titans I really, really don’t think he has much of an opinion about other than a “liability vs. threat” analysis where Kara and Bart are the clear ones he views as the maximum threats, biggest liability would be whatever member is most reliant on mechanical equipment that could be taken out by gunfire)
Titans:
Will: Slade’s aware of the previous drug problem and brainwashing (one because he was told and the other because he does research). He also knows about Will’s role in the Roy-Luthor mess of Year 5. His opinions are likely that Will has a good head on his shoulder, overly reliant on bows which can be broken--currently Slade probably as a detached negative view that Will he “limits himself” by staying in home city. Conclusion: factor in Red Arrow’s possible involvement as a reserve member but does not necessarily view as a key threat.
Jade: Another assassin (although former). Compared to the rest, she’s dangerous so better to avoid or have occupied. If have to fight, it’s better to take her out from a distance since knives are close range and throwing knives have a limit on how many she can throw without running out. Conclusion: One of the Titans major threats.
Garth: Atlantian, easily manipulated (Slade has this opinion due to the Terra thing so not a full and accurate assessment of Garth, who’s changed since then). Not as major of a threat, use heat and dry conditions.
Zatanna: Magic’s versatile so dangerous, better to deal with from afar but if need be, Zatanna is one of the comparatively less trained in hand-to-hand combat
Raquel: Competent hand to hand fighter, her and Zatanna were still the least experienced in fighting when Slade first met them in Year 3 so he likely doesn’t view Raquel as a major threat. Easiest way to defeat would be aiming for her equipment that she relies on for power.
Donna: This is probably Slade’s most developed opinion when it comes to the Titans because she is Dick’s second in command which means, for Slade, and important person to take notice of. Slade likely has a cautiously good opinion of her as an opponent. She’s reasonable, makes good tactical calls, hard to manipulate/distract, well-trained, and she as Amazonian powers.
All in all, I think Slade considers Donna and Jade to be Dick’s biggest assets as far as the OG Titans go. Probably has the least favorable opinion of Will.
Batfam:
Tim: Smart kid, but still a kid. Has more respect for Tim for his support skills (hacking, finding information, tactical analysis) than his field skills where Tim is the least trained of the Batfam and still carries the most innocent/naive opinion of the world. (That’s not in general, just....Jason, Barbara, and a Dick all would be much, much more likely to handle psychologically damaging cases than handing them to Tim. Tim’s still 16 in this universe and has a lot of older family members that care about him). For Slade, he thinks that kid’s going to grow up to be a major tactical threat but might always have that more naive world view which will dampen the impact.
Jason: Slade approves of Jason’s more ruthless nature and thinks he’s smart. Also thinks he’s the one most easily led by emotions (keeping in mind, Slade does know about the incident with Jason’s mom in Year 4). Dangerous but best way to handle is emotional manipulation.
Barbara: Likely Slade views Barbara as the most dangerous because he knows that she is great at support (hacking, intel gathering), has a good head on her shoulders, and is well-trained. He also knows that Dick doesn’t shield her from things as much as he does his little brothers so knows that Barbara (much like Donna in the Titans) functions on a much more equal-partnership level.
Alfred: Slade’s researched his background so knows Alfred is dangerous; but, also knows Alfred keeps to the manor. Slade’s general opinion: Could be dangerous but is too uninvolved too worry about. Slade typically has the lowest opinion of people he thinks are limiting their effectiveness, especially when he doesn’t agree with their reasons (like: Will and Alfred). It doesn’t help that he knows Alfred helped raise Bruce and Dick which....(is continued in next one)
Bruce: Slade, to put it bluntly, does not like Bruce Wayne. Unfortunately, he also knows tat he can’t push Dick that hard on getting him to abandon Bruce’s code without it backfiring on Slade spectacularly.
So, I actually have Slade’s thoughts from a short story somewhere so here’s a quote.
“In all honesty, Slade doesn’t particularly like Batman. He was intelligent, sure. A decent enough fighter with an excellent use of psychological warfare. If Slade had met him in a fight while the man was still alive, he’s sure it would make for a good match. But like him? No.
Bruce Wayne was too much the type of man who lived by rigid rules and a view of the world so black and white it was almost childlike. He chained himself in with tight principles because if he ever broke them, he wouldn’t know how to put them back together.
What it all led to was a view of the world as inflexible as it was simplistic enough to make Slade feel like he was reading a fucking fairytale.
Wayne raised his ward to have the same approach.
But, Dick Grayson is not Bruce Wayne.”
Anyway, those are what I think Slade’s opinions are for the story. Not entirely accurate about who the characters actually are, but filtered through his view of liability vs threat.

The Last Descendant (Sam Winchester x Reader) pt.5/Final Chapter
Disclaimer: Tumblr is being weird again so if you’re using the app, the ‘Keep Reading’ cut off line may not be visible inspite of the fact that I always insert one.
Hi everyone! I originally planned on posting this on Friday but your girl is a busy bee and had some personal stuff to take care of. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy the final part to this story, I had lots of fun writing it.
Summary to pt.5: You’ve managed to win a battle against Michael in the woods, but the war is not over just yet. He’s powerful - more than anyone you’ve ever encountered - but you also have some aces up your sleeve.
Warnings: slight cursing, character death
Word count: 2.140-ish
PART 1.  PART 2.  PART 3.  PART 4.
Tumblr media
As the angels have disappeared, the force holding you flat against the trees dissipates, causing you all to fall to your knees. The first thing you realize when you get up is that there’s only three of you left – Kaia’s taken off without prior notice. Your blood runs cold for a minute but then you find the spear in the tall grass where you threw it. Sam makes sure everyone is well enough to travel and following Jody’s suggestion, you drive to her place.
It’s already dark when you pull up in her driveway. Neither you nor Sam have said a single word throughout the ride and as the engine dies, you feel an urge to change this.
“Sam...” you put a hand on his thigh “I’m gonna do everything I can in order to replicate the spear and we’ll get him back, okay? I promise.”
He puts his large one over yours and squeezes it.
“I know, Y/N. Now, let’s get inside and take a look at your wound.”
The interior of Jody’s house reminds you of your childhood home, and a sense of nostalgia washes over you, mixed with hope that one day even you can have something like this. Maybe with Sam. Who knows?
“Alright, the guest room is ready.” Jody informs you, pulling you out of your thoughts. “A bathroom opens directly from it, clean towels can be found in the cabinet. And if you’re hungry there’s food in the fridge, knock yourself out.”
“Thanks, Jody.”
“As for you, Sam, I’m sorry, but I don’t have any more guest rooms, so you’re stuck with the couch.” she pouts.
“It’s okay, uhm, we’re kind of used to sleeping together.” Sam flashes an awkward smile.
Jody appears startled for a second but soon regaines composure.
“In that case, excuse me for a second. I need to prepare another set of pillows in the guest room.”
When everything’s all set you decide to scrub off the combination of dirt, blood and sweat that’s defiling your body. Usually you shower with an almost boiling hot water, but this time you must settle for medium temperature as the scars and bruises don’t really appreciate the heat. You nearly punch Sam in the face when he pulls the floral shower curtain open, but realizing it’s him, you’re able to stop yourself in time.
“God, Sam, do not do that again! I ain’t the screaming kind of scared, I’m the might-break-your-nose kind of scared.”
“Noted!” he smiles, stepping into the bathtub.
You don’t question what he’s doing in there with you. Maybe for the first time ever in your life, you let someone else take control of a situation, and to much of your surprise, you discover it’s not that bad. He gently cleanses every inch of your body, with special attention to the scars.
“You know, I really think your shoulder could use a couple of stitches.” he whispers. You can hear a little worry in his tone.
“Nah, I’ve had worse I didn’t patch up and I’m still around.” you reply, swiping aside a wet strand of hair that was sticking to his forehead and you kiss him softly.
When you’re all finished, you dress up in the clothes Jody left you on the foot of the bed and pick up the spear from the corner of the room.
“Whoah, what are you doing?” Sam asks incredulously.
“Well, what does it look like I’m doing?” he opens his mouth to speak but you continue “You know what, don’t answer that. I’m gonna go to the garage and try to replicate this.”
“No, you’re not. Look, sweetheart, let’s be sensible here. You haven’t slept in a long time and I can assure you that the world’s not gonna end in those few hours when you do. I talked to Cas and he was able to track down Michael in Missouri. If anything happens, we’ll know firsthand. You need to be strong both mentally and phyisically to do what you’re about to… you know I’m right, so don’t fight it!” he delivers a lecture while taking the weapon out of your hand.
You pull a face but give in to his reasoning anyway. This time you manage to get three full hours of sleep before the nightmares start tainting your subconscious. Terrifying images you haven’t seen in a long time flood your mind, and you successfully wake the whole house up with your screams. You can hear Sam’s soothing vocie and Jody’s nervous inquiries about your well-being before you fully come around.
“I’m…I’m alright. I’m fine, really.” you stutter unconvincingly while running a hand through your hair. “Uhm, Jody?”
“Yeah?”
“Could you please show me your garage? I’ll collect the tools from Sam’s car and get right down to work.”
Tumblr media
The weapon contains an ancient magic you’ve never encountered before, or even anything similar to it. The runes carved into the shaft belong to a language uknown to you, making your job all the more difficult.  Nevertheless, you try your best, as always. First, you recreate the shape of the spear and its head, then join the two together. Replicating the runes requires the most time – you only realize just how much when the first lights of morning illuminate the garage and Sam brings you breakfast. You take a few bites of your toast and drink your coffee in one gulp.
“Okay, so here goes everything…” you mutter as you begin performing a spell, which should transfer some of the magic from the original weapon into the replica. The incantation you recite next supposedly enhances the transferred magic.
“It looks like the same to me.” Sam states when you show them your work.
“Yeah, and it also possesses that creepy vibe the original one does.” Jody nods in agreement.
“Good. Hopefully, it’ll work just as well, too. Let’s visit Missouri and kick some archangel ass, shall we?” you propose.
Tumblr media
You must give it to Michael – he has exceptionally good taste. Both the exterior and interior of the building he chose as temporary residence radiates elegance. You meet up with Cas and a boy in the underground parking lot. You furrow your brows.
“Who’s the kid?” you glance between Sam and the angel, the latter moving infront of the boy as you speak.
“Uhm, his name is Jack. Also, he happens to be the son of satan.” Cas replies.
Out of reflex, you touch the side of your overknee boots looking for your knife but ease off almost immediately and extend an arm towards the boy. Cas eyes you with suspicion.
“Don’t worry, Castiel, I’m not gonna attcak him.”
He seems hesitant but eventually steps aside, allowing you to shake Jack’s hand.
“I’m Y/N. Y/N Colt.”
His eyes widen.
“Colt? Are you related to Samuel Colt?” your nod sends him over the edge “Oh, wow! This is soo cool! I’m Jack! You must have some awesome stories to tell! When this is over, could you tell me all of them?”
“I’d absolutely love to, Jack!” you smile at his child-like enthusiasm, doubting that a sweet kid like him could be related to the Devil himself.
“Alright, I think we should go over the plan one more time.” Sam changes the subject.
You talk everything over one last time - including the intel on the monsters Sam got from a friend named Garth - and enter the elevator that takes you to the top floor. You feel like the tension could be cut with a knife.
An empty, silent hall welcomes you as you exit.
“Michael is the only one I can sense.” Cas whispers.
“I’m not sure if that’s a good thing.” you whisper back.
You all take feather light steps until you reach a double-winged door and Cas nods, confirming the archangel’s location. Sam kicks in the door in a blink of an eye. A well-dressed Michael is staring out the window, holding a glass of some probably expensive booze.
“Welcome!” he greets, turning to your direction. “Well, well, well… what do we have here? The Three Muskateers? If so, I have to admit, Y/N, you are the loveliest d’Artagnan I have ever laid my eyes upon.”
“Oh my God, just cut the crap or else I’m gonna vomit!” the words slip out before you could think them through.
As a result, Michael’s face hardens even more and he extends an arm in the height where your neck would be, casting an invisible force that pulls you straight into his grip.
Sam yells out your name in desperation.
“Oh, don’t worry, Samuel. I am not going to snap her pretty little neck. Although, my fingers may leave a bruise.” Michael exclaims innocently then averts his gaze back to you.
You find it hard not to try stripping his fingers from your neck with both hands, but there’s no other way. One hand is on his but with the other one you sign three behind your back – the catcher singal for a slider in baseball. Sam catches on, takes the spear out of Castiel’s trenchcoat and throws it to you. But before you could sink the tip in Michael’s body, he snatches the weapon and breaks it in half with one hand.
“Did you honestly believe it was going to be that easy to take me down?” he asks with utter disbelief. “The way you underestimate me is quite offensive.”
“Let her go, Michael.” Jack speaks up.
“I don’t think so, child. In fact, here’s what’s going to happen!” he looks right into your eyes “I am going to kill all of them – in which order, that’s your call – and then I will release my monster army on this city with you by my side. I think this vessel is handsome enough, you’ll grow used to him, darling.”
“Yeah, he may be handsome… but I kinda have a thing for his brother, asshole!”
Before he can react, you stab him in the chest with the knife from your boots. He looks down at the shaft smiling but it soon fades into an expression of sheer panic. He lets go of you and tries to pull the weapon out.
“Did you honestly believe we didn’t have a plan B? The way you underestimate us is quite offensive...” you retort.
“What’s happening?! I demand to know!” he bellows, confused.
“I upgraded my favorite blade a little. Now it has the magic of the spear from that other dimension, too. You like it?”
He screams out in agony while his whole body is lighting up with a blue-ish white blaze. You take a couple of steps back and bump into Sam, who envelopes you in a shielding embrace. Cas and Jack try to cover their eyes as the brightness has risen to an extent that’s almost blinding. Michael’s shrieking finally dies out with a huge energy explosion that busts out all the windows in the suite.
He is gone and the only thing he left behind is a very much so bleeding Dean Winchester on the floor.
Tumblr media
Dean is slowly opening his eyes. The fluorescent neon lights, the white walls and the beeping of machines tip him off regarding his whereabouts – he’s in a hospital. He tries to rip the needle out of his arm, but Sam prevents him from doing so.
“Hey, no! Stop!”
“Sam? Wha- what happened? Where am I?”
“Uhm, long story short, Y/N killed Michael and injured you in the process, so you are in a private clinic in Missouri.”
“Private clinic? You know damn well we can’t afford that stuff!”
“You may not be able to, but I can.” you appear in the door with two cups of coffee, one of which you hand to Sam while sitting down on a chair next to him.
“Uhm, we appreciate the offer, really, but we can’t accept it.” Dean says in protest without a beat.
“Hey… I almost killed you, I believe this is the least I can do.”
There’s a stare-down between the brothers and Dean’s the one to break the connection first.
“Alright, thank you.” he mumbles eventually, then checks his bandage by looking down the inside of his hospital robe.
“Uhm, question. Based on the place of the wound, how am I not dead right now?”
“Well, I know how to stab someone without killing them... Which is probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever said to anyone, so let’s pretend it never left my mouth, please.”
Both men chuckle lightly, and you feel a little heat rise to your cheeks.
“Hot, feisty and funny? Sam, you better not mess this up or I’ll snatch her right out of your hands.” Dean comments jokingly and this time, it’s your turn to laugh and Sam’s to blush.
“Don’t worry about that, Dean…” he intertwines his fingers with yours “I won’t. I kinda have a thing for her…”

Since your hyperfixated on it and now it's all over my dash and I'm curious what is fable? And what can you play it on It looks cool. (I'm just interested in sorry)
Im so glad you asked its my favorite game ever. Its an action RPG made by Lionhead originally but the new one is Playgrounds. Its set in Albion which is a lot like medieval England, but way fucking cooler because Heros and magic. Heros are people that can use magic, have extraordinary strength, and/or amazing dexterity. Being The Hero you can master all of them, or just 1 if you want! A REALLY big part of the gameplay thru the series is the Good/Evil scale. Personally I think it was done best in the 2nd game, because there was the Good/Bad but also Purity/Corruption which was neat I think. But 2 is also my favorite of all the games dx Wether you play as Good or Evil changes your character, and, after the 1st game, changes the look of your doggo. Evil you grow horns, your eyes darken, a 'bad' dark aura follows you, and your glowy Hero Veins turn more red, your dogs fur also gets darker. Good you get a halo, butterflies, lighter dog, eyes are brighter. In the third game that made it kinda lame because only your veins change really like you get wings and a halo or horn but they only show up when you do like flourish attack. 3 is the worst, but that doesnt make it bad imo. But anyway you are the descendant of a Hero. In the first game its your mother, after that you play as a descendant of the Hero in the first game. Theres 500 years between 1 and 2, 50 between 2 and 3.
Basic stories for each game that hopefully dont spoil much: Fable/Fable TLC/Anniversary - Avenge dead family by doin a bunch of quests and kicking chickens
Fable 2 - Avenge dead family and stop asshole Rich Dude with the help of 2 badass Heros, Hammer and Garth, and 1 really shitty "Hero", Reaver
Fable 3 - Start a whole revolution because your brother is kinda running the kingdom into the ground and not even attempting to think about his people and kingdom.
Im really sorry cause this is prolly all over the place but god I love these games. They have really shitty British humor but the kinda stupid thats actually funny, they have female heros and poc heros from the start. After 2 you can play as a female and 2 is my favorite because not only is one of the Heros a big badass buff girl, but the female Hero get BUFF. They arent dainty little things, theyre bad bitches w big ass hammers and huge muscles and a lot of people shit talk it cause "they look to manly" but fuck that I love my big buff women 🤷 Garth from 2 is a black Old Kingdom scholar who is super smart and has amazing Will power (the magic), Hammer is a bad ass whos called that first as mockery because of how big and how strong she is, but she embraces it not long after meeting the Hero. Reaver is a piece of shit scrawny white dude whos so full of himself and so obnoxious you want to Shoot On Site. His only even slightly redeemable quality is that hes super openly bi/pan and throws wild ass orgy parties and hes pretty funny. Otherwise hes a douche and this is why I named my cat after him. If you have any more questions I would absolutely love to answer them this game is my life blood and since the announcement of the new one I have been revived

Sam was facing a difficult decision. Not that he wasn’t always facing difficult decisions, but this one was probably the hardest he’d ever had to make.
Garth was a werewolf. One of his best friends and a fellow hunter had been turned. He should have wanted to put the scrawny man down right there, and then put bullets in the rest of the pack, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. Because you were in the pack too, and if Sam killed everyone else, he would have no choice but to put you down too.
Sam hadn’t intended to fall in love with you, but he guessed love was just one of those things that he couldn’t help.
He’d always been like that.
From Jess to Sarah to Madison to Ruby (that particular love had been the biggest mistake of his entire life) to Amelia, he never learned that him falling in love always resulted in tragedy and grief. But from the moment he’d seen you in the hallway at Garth’s house, he knew that you were special. You had this kind of magic about you that he couldn’t figure out how to distract himself from, and that night at the motel, while he’d tossed and turned, he’d finally accepted with a pang of self-hatred that he was in love.
Again. With another monster he was supposed to loathe and kill.
He was just leaving Garth’s house as you pulled up in your forest green Datsun, windows down, Antigone Rising blaring from the speakers. You were so damn beautiful, singing along to lyrics he’d never heard before, skin glowing in the afternoon sun. His heart jumped when you drummed your hands on the steering wheel, tossing your head back as you finished the final lyric.
You could smell him as you pulled up to the driveway and parked. He was sweet and musky, and something reminded you of the hazelnut coffee. His heartbeat was fluid and strong, echoing in your ears like a drum. He’d make one hell of an Alpha if he was a werewolf. He didn’t read as a Beta, and there was no way in hell that he was an Omega, like you.
Something about him just screamed Alpha.
When you saw him standing on the porch, you grinned and waved at him as you got out, pulling three full-to-the-brim grocery bags from the front seat.
“Hey,” you exclaimed, shifting the bags in both arms. “Didn’t expect to see you still here, I thought you and your brother would be long gone.”
“Without saying goodbye?” Sam chuckled and watched you trot up the stairs and onto the porch, shoulders sagging with the weight of the grocery bags. “Here, let me—” he opened the screen door for you and followed you back inside and into the kitchen.
“Thanks.” You grunted as you heaved bags onto the counter.
“No problem,” Sam smiled warmly at you as you tucked a few locks of hair behind your ear. He peered into one of the bags as you started unpacking. It was filled with almost all meat products, except for a couple bags of carrots and a large bag of mixed greens.
“Chickens, steaks, bacon, pretty much every kind of meat I could find at the market.” You replied, stacking three plastic-wrapped chickens in the back of the refrigerator. “Gotta keep the pack fed, and when we’re not gorging on animal hearts once a month, we eat normal meat, like humans, just more of it. We cook veggies too, try to get a balance in.”
“Yeah.” Sam felt that just standing there watching you put the groceries away was a bit rude, so he started pulling out Styrofoam cartons of thick, red steaks. “Hey, I want to ask you about something, if that’s okay.”
You accepted the cartons from him and stacked them on the top shelf. “Depends on what that something is, but go on.”
Sam continued handing you food and cleared his throat. “What’s it like, living here?”
“It’s…” you tilted your head, a pack of thick-cut bacon in one hand. “It’s not easy, I mean hunters can come for us at any time, but we’re careful. We suppress our urges, our natural instincts to go after humans. We love each other, like we’re a family, we take anyone who gets bit so they don’t run off and kill an innocent person.”
Sam nodded. “You guys seem like a tight family. How long have you been here?”
“Since I was about five.” You smiled up at him and kept stacking food. “I’m a pureblood, I was born into it. My parents were killed by hunters, I managed to hide in our basement until they left. The Reverend adopted me into the pack, raised me to be a good person. We’re a support system, not a group of killers like a lot of hunters think.”
Sam looked around the kitchen, at the four-burner stove, steel oven, linoleum floor, dining table covered with a white tablecloth. It was the perfect picture of a normal house. The only difference were the individuals who lived in it.
“What are holidays like?” He asked.
You shrugged. “We’re not very celebratory, but every holiday we make a fruit pie of some kind, cook a little special, it’s stupid, but it works for us. Anyway, why do you want to know all this?”
Sam shoved his hands in his pockets as you dumped the contents of the other bag onto the counter. “Just curious.” His cheeks flushed pink, and he bowed his head, biting his lip. “I, uh… I was actually wondering if I could stay a few days, I want to get to know you guys a little better.”
You raised your eyebrows and shoved the last package of sausage into the fridge before standing and closing the door. “And why would a hunter want to chill out with a pack of werewolves? Aren’t you scared I’d eat you in your sleep?”
He shook his head and brushed a lock of hair behind his ear. “No, I trust that you’re…”
“Civilized?” You scoffed and folded your arms. “Don’t worry, Sam, I don’t bite unless you want me to, and even then you’ve gotta be ready for consequences.”
Sam chuckled and ran his fingers over his two-day stubble. “You said ‘I,’ not ‘we.’ Do you not live here?”
You smiled. “I live next door. I like to be close to the pack, but I need my own space, you know what I mean?”
“Ah.” Sam nodded. “You like bein’ alone too, huh?”
“I find it easier,” you replied. “I’ve got a pull-out couch for you to sleep on, I’m not gonna make you sleep on the floor.”
Sam laughed quietly. “So I can stay?”
“As long as you need to, or want to, whichever one it is.” You picked up the remaining bag and walked past him. “C’mon, I’ll show you around.”
***
That night, Sam joined you, Garth, Bess, and the rest of the pack for dinner. Dean, who wasn’t bothering to hide his discomfort, took off and decided to go into town for his own meal.
While Dean’s dismissal stung slightly, both you and Garth were intent on making the evening as comfortable for Sam as possible, so you decided to forgo raw chicken hearts, instead grilling steaks on the barbecue outside. Bess steamed carrots and broccoli to go along with the meat, much to the disappointment of Russ and Joba, who remained silent through the entire meal.
After washing the dishes and saying goodnight to the married couple, you and Sam walked next door to your house. Sam knew the general layout of your house from what you’d showed him earlier, and his backpack sat on the edge of the soft, slightly over-plush couch.
“So,” Sam gestured towards the couch, “Bedtime, or…?”
You shrugged. “If you’re tired you can sleep, I’ll make the bed up for you.”
“It’s fine, Y/N, I can do it.” Sam made to help, but you shook your head.
“Nope, you’re my guest, you let me fix this up.” You pointed to the kitchen. “Go get a beer, make yourself at home.”
Sam obliged. When he returned from the kitchen, ice cold beer in hand, you had already stripped the seat cushions from the couch and were carrying an armload of sheets and a brown comforter into the living room.
“Okay, you gotta let me help with this part.” Sam set his beer on the table and walked over to help you. Together, you stretched the fitted sheet over the mattress and threw the top sheet and comforter over it. You packed two spare pillows into mismatched pillowcases and tossed them at the top of the couch.
“There,” you grinned up at him and stepped out of your boots. “All nice and cozy.”
“Thanks.” Sam nodded his appreciation and stepped out of his own shoes. “Hey, mind if we stay up, talk for a little?”
“Not at all,” you grinned, “I’m not tired.”
You made hot chocolate as Sam changed into a pair of black sweats and a snug-fitting gray shirt, and left him to fill his cup with marshmallows as you ran off to change as well. You changed into a baggy shirt and yoga pants, leaving your silver bullet necklace on the bedside table. When you entered the kitchen, you swore Sam had a hard time yanking his eyes away from your ass.
Once you and Sam were comfortably situated on the makeshift bed, you struck up a conversation. “So, what do you want to talk about?”
Sam shrugged, his lips curving into a second-long frown. “Considering I’m currently staying under your roof, why don’t we get to know each other a little better?”
You sat back, getting comfortable with your mug of cocoa. “Not much to know about me. Kinda just what I told you this afternoon.”
“I mean silly things, like what’s your favorite color?” Sam explained.
“I like green,” you replied, “not that electric stuff, but like my car, all forest-y. What about you?”
Sam grinned. “I like green too, but there’re some shades of blue that I can deal with.”
You blew on the creamy brown surface of your drink. “Should we just go for twenty questions?”
Sam’s heart flared as he watched your lips purse, clouded slightly by steam. “Yeah… yeah, why not?”
“Alrighty then,” you replied, “How old are you?”
Sam’s cheeks flushed. “Thirty-one. You?”
“Twenty.” You giggled nervously. Say hello to age difference.
“Okay…” Sam seemed a little taken aback by the decade-long age gap as well, but shook it off.
The game continued for at least another hour. By the time you were done, it was past eleven and both of you were exhausted from laughing. Finally, Sam cleared his throat and set his empty mug on the coffee table.
“Hey,” he said. “I gotta ask you a serious question, and I need an honest answer.”
You tilted your head. “Yeah, anything.”
He swallowed. “If… if someone—a human—asked you to turn them, would you do it?”
You shifted anxiously. “I don’t understand…”
Sam folded his hands in his lap. “If someone asked you to bite them, turn them into a werewolf, would you?”
You shifted in your seat. “I don’t… I’ve never thought about it. There’s no reversal, if someone wanted to be turned, they’d have to be insane or have a death wish. You’re not as safe as you are as a human, Sam, hunters come looking around all the time, and if they find a pack, they won’t hesitate to wipe out every single one, even babies. It’s not always family dinners and singin’ together on Sunday mornings, it’s hard. Most of us can’t find jobs because we’re scared of hurting people and getting killed as a result.”
Sam nodded. “But if someone wanted to join the pack… if they thought it was their best chance at something, would you turn them?”
You shook your head. “No. Not in a million years.”
Sam bit his lip and looked down at his hands, apparently mollified by your firm response. “How do relationships work? I mean, Garth and Bess look really happy and I never thought werewolves could actually marry.”
You felt your cheeks flush. “It’s… a little different than a human partnership. Like humans, we find our mates and form a strong bond, but that bond forms during…”
“During…?” Sam motioned for you to continue.
“Sex.” You swallowed, cheeks turning warm. “We have a kind of hierarchy, it’s hard to explain.”
Sam stretched his legs out in front of him. “Come on, now I’m curious.”
“Because I said sex?” You asked.
Sam shook his head. “Just the whole relationship thing, I wanna know.”
Carefully, you explained almost everything you knew. From Alpha to Omega and their individual characteristics to the basic treatment of werewolves based on their status within their own society. Sam flinched a little when you explained the whole ‘knotting’ thing, but he absorbed that piece of information regardless.
“Wow…” he stated when your voice trailed off. “So that’s werewolf society.”
You shrugged. “It’s not much, but it’s what happens… I guess we’ve just held onto our fundamental instincts, haven’t tried to suppress them or anything.”
Sam nodded. “So… do you have a partner, an Alpha, or whatever?”
You shook your head and felt yourself blush. “No… I’ve been with a couple Betas, and a human, but nothing’s ever been true. So no mate for me, at least not now.”
Sam’s heart skipped a beat. Single. Good. “Would you ever… you know, ‘mate’ with a human?”
You sighed. “I’ve tried. It’s just not in our nature. Why?”
“Just…” Sam bit his words, hardly believing the words that were about to come out of his mouth. “Okay, this is gonna sound super weird and awkward and you’re totally free to kick me out, but,” he took a breath, “I think you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and the only reason I’m sticking around is because of you. I… y’know, I want to get to know you better.”
You blushed harder than ever, and Sam’s eyes darted anxiously between your face and the wall behind you. “I mean, I get if you don’t want to, or if you just can’t…” He bit his lower lip and looked down at his lap. “Damn it, I shouldn’t’ve said anything.”
“Sam, it doesn’t bother me,” you replied, “come here.”
Sam practically froze in place as you crawled over to him, leaning forward on your hands and knees. He held his breath as you leaned in and pressed your lips to his cheek. Without waiting, he slowly tilted his head towards yours, tilting it back a little so he could kiss you.
One of those large, perfect hands came up to cup your cheek. His fingers slid into your hair, holding your face to his as he waited for you to deepen the kiss. When you didn’t, he took the lead, parting his lips and pulling you closer. You braced a hand against his chest, slung a leg over one of his thighs. He was so big and warm and firm, you could just lose yourself in every inch of his body.
“Sam—”
He pulled back, his eyes half-closed. “Yeah, I… God, I know…”
You sat back, one leg still draped over his thigh. “It’s okay, I just… I don’t want you to get pulled into this. You’re a hunter, I’m a werewolf, we can’t get involved.”
“Why?” Sam hadn’t intended the word to come out as a plea. He kept his eyes on you even as his heart raced inside his chest.
You pressed your lips together. “I don’t wanna hurt you.”
The same words Madison had uttered almost seven years previously as she’d pressed a gun into his palm.
“Y/N, you wouldn’t—”
“Sam, you don’t know what it’s been like trying to restrain these… these urges all my life. I’ve almost hurt people before, I nearly turned a fifteen-year-old girl when I tried going to high school, I could have killed her—” you swallowed the lump in your throat, “—I can hear your heartbeat so loudly, so clearly. I can smell your blood, but I have enough self-control to not bite you right here, right now. If you stay, it’s dangerous for both of us.”
Sam reached out, took one of your hands. “You wouldn’t hurt me, and I sure as hell wouldn’t let anyone hurt you.”
You looked back at him as tears fell down your face. “But your brother would. I can practically smell how much he hates us. If Garth wasn’t here, this entire pack would be dead by now.”
“I wouldn’t let him hurt you.” Sam stated. “You’re important to me. I don’t care what you are, all I care about is that you’re safe.”
“Then…” you swallowed and ran the back of your free hand across your eyes. “Then go. When you want to leave, just leave, and don’t come back. Forget about me.”
Sam cupped your face in both hands, his thumbs running over your cheeks. “Hey, look at me.” He waited until your eyes were locked with his. “I’m not leaving you for some other hunter to kill. I trust you.”
“But I’m a monster, Sam,” you choked, “I’m a monster and I’m always gonna be this way. If I hurt someone, what would you think?”
Sam shook his head and swallowed. “I’d want to help you. Everyone makes mistakes, Y/N. If something happened, I’d help you fix it. I’d help you make it right.” He pulled you into a hug, wrapping his arms around you. “I care about you.”
You buried your face in the crook of his neck. “I know you do, but you have to let me face responsibility for my actions if that ever happens. I don’t want you to care this much.”
“Too frickin’ bad, because I do.” Sam chuckled and grazed his stubble over your cheek before claiming your lips in a soft, gentle kiss that made the Omega in you quiver. “Come on, wipe those eyes and get some rest.”

The Reading Rush ended yesterday for me. I had such a great time doing The Reading Rush this past week. It was really fun doing twitter sprints, collecting badges, reading all those comics, and just overall connecting more with the bookish community through this readathon.
I wanted to do a wrap up for what I read and accomplished during the readathon. I’ll start with the Reading Rush challenges and then go into what I actually read. I completed :
8/8 reading challenges
14/16 badges
2/7 bookstagram challenges
0/0 booktube challenges
Now into my wrap-up of the week. I did switch around my tbr for the readathon because f the time crunch (which I expected because of my ambitious 12 book tbr) ad just went with ones that were more convenient for me to finish.
1. Teen Titans: Raven
three out of five stars. I love raven, she has been my favorite of the bunch ever since I watched teen titans as a kid. I just loved her backstory and that her character had depth in the show and how she was always protective of her friends. this was a good graphic novel, but because I went into this thinking I was going to get hardcore raven, it was kind of a let down. if I had gone into it remembering that this was a toned down version for young readers getting into books and superheroes, I probably would’ve enjoyed it more than I did. it was still enjoyable.  I especially loved the monotone color palette that the colorist used with the art, it added to the tone of the story. anyway, still excited for the beast boy graphic novel that’s coming out next year. garth speaks to my soul.
2. Blackbird Vol. 1
two out of five stars. the only reason I picked up this comic was because one of the artists I follow on instagram worked with them on it. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters, didn’t get the magical world, didn’t get where the insta love came from??? it just seemed like it was all over the place. it did get interesting around issue 4 or 5 but.... just generally wasn’t for me. the art is fuckin gorgeous tho.
3. Goldie Vance Vol. 1
five out of five stars. I fuckin loved this comic guys!! it was such a blast to read. it’s set in the 60s in Florida following our 16 year old POC mc Goldie Vance who works at hotel as a valet, but on her down time likes to help with the hotel’s detective services. the art is so aesthetic and pretty, the characters are awesome. it just felt like a good ‘ol time. it gave me old fun detective cartoon vibes like scooby-doo or detective conan. loved it so much and can’ wait to read more.
4. The Backstagers Vol.1: Rebels Without Applause
three stars out of five. the story started kinda slow and weird with no context at all, but grew on me around the third issue. the characters were adorable; my faves were beckett and sasha. such cuties!! not crazy about the comic, but would continue for good ‘ol soft, fun, laugh times.
5. SLAM! Vol. 1
three out of five stars. picked up this one because roller derby has always been a topic of interest to me. the sport that is or seems dominated by females, females who are aggressive.  anyway, the art was really vibrant and cool. the story was cute and sorta relatable. two friends trying to make time for each other around busy lives; that I related too. that was the part of the comic I really liked. but I wanted to see more of the community side of things, the team, the found family. will probably end up continuing this comic.
6. Misfit City Vol. 1
three and a half out of five stars. female lead cast in a ‘goonies’-esque treasure hunt story?? yes. hell yes. I enjoyed this comic. the art was beautiful, the characters were funny and some relatable. I thought the premise of the town being a film site for ‘the gloomies’ was an interesting backstory. it was a light, fun, comic with awesome females friends at the center of it. the only thing, sometimes the dialogue was a little bland. some jokes were bad and made me cringe.
7. Fence Vol. 1
four out of five stars. I have been meaning to read this one for a while. finally got around to it, and am I so glad I did. fencing is another non-mainstream sport that I have some interest in. first, art (as always) was fuckin great, just like, the movement of the fencers in the illustrations, I loved. the cast of characters were great. my favorite was bobby, he’s just such a sweetheart so i will kill that other character i forget his name if he breaks him. idk why but the conflict between the main characters reminded me of naruto/sasuke or hinata/kageyama dynamic. one is the arrogant ace who looks down on just about everyone and is surprised when someone catches them off-guard, the other is the underdog/newbie who has passion and effort and something to prove. and they hate each other... for now. i seriously screamed ‘and they were roommates’ when i finished issue one. just read it, it’s good.
8. Moonstruck Vol. 1: Magic to Brew
two out of five stars. the world’s full of magical creatures and magic. which sounds cool and all, i guess but the whole story just wasn’t for me. i did’t really connect or sympathize with any of the characters, except for cass and chet. which is also why their my favorite characters. especially chet. a non-binary, sassy, and over all awesome friend. yes yes yes. thank you. i loved them. probably the only reason i would continue the series is chet.
9. Nancy Drew: The Palace of Wisdom
five out of five stars. again, this is me and my love for mystery, crime-solving teens. like, seriously: nancy drew, kim possible, conan, scooby-doo, tintin, and so many more i can’t think of right now. it was full of lovely friendship dynamics and lots of mystery and suspense.
10. Batman: Year One
four and a half out of five stars. batman’s origin story. hell yeah. this was a reread. this is one the only comic that i own and i love it dearly. the atmosphere that the art adds to gotham city and bruce’s journey into batman is just *chef’s kiss*. there were a few things, that i don’t remember when i first read, that bothered me. there was a line in there somewhere when jim is baiting batman, and batman says something like “she knows how to walk in heels. it’s practically a lost art. it’s a shame.” which off course is the most ridiculous line in the graphic novel, and of course comes from a rich white boy playing dress-up... other than that, i really really love this as a batman comic. all the characters in it are incredibly flawed and yet they are some of my favorites. and will continue to be.
I think that’s the end of the wrap-up. wow. it’s nine o’clock already. I’m probably just gonna sit in bed, eat my cheetos and watch some shows. or booktube. eh who knows. I’m definitely going to be in bed tho. goodnight folks.

Words: 1209  // [AO3 Link] // Warnings: None // Seasons 1-3 of War Creatures - Chapter 31 - Chapter 32
Tumblr media
:Lia’s POV:
My mother told me that pregnancy made me glow. I wish I felt the same. I felt congested and lost so many nights of sleep already that I laughed whenever I looked into the mirror. I looked like a madwoman. Though, nobody seemed to comment on my appearance that much. At least, not to my face.
It was days like these where I missed Elise the most. She would share palace gossip with me and tell me what I honestly looked like in a sweet way. I could hear her now. ‘Silly Lia, your eyes are so red I don’t think you could see any other color out of them.’ Her innocent teasing made me feel human, not like the other servants who were afraid to say anything honest with me.
“Violet?” I asked my new head lady-in-waiting. “Any news of my husband?”
She scrunched up her face uncomfortably. She did this every time I asked about him.
“I’m sorry, my lady,” she said in her common southern accent. “Your father’s ‘bid me from sayin’ to you.”
My father. Lord Garth Gardener of Highgarden was hiding things from me again. I thought he learned his lesson the first time around. The last time my father hid things from me, a rebellion war broke out and I was to marry ‘The Dark Prince of the Iron Islands’. Now, here I was, sitting by the fire with his child inside of me.
I suppose my mother had something to do with this. I would argue, but she warned me to not be angry while I was with child. ‘What you add to the batter will bake into the cake.’ She told me. With all of her pregnancies, my mother read and read many books about many things. I guess she was right. My sisters and I adored reading. Perhaps, I should pay my Dahlia a visit. Her head was always in a unique book.
“My lady, Ser Xerxes is here to see you,” Violet announced. I looked to see the knight in more normal clothing. He did not don any armor, but instead wore a cloth shirt which was more open than I anticipated. I caught a peek at his russet brown chest along with a peculiar battle scar, but I adverted my eyes.
“Xerxes,” I greeted.
:Xerxes’ POV:
“My lady,” Xerxes greeted. He smiled down at his lady. Her hair was disheveled. Her eyes were not made of clear glass, but she was awake. And yet, she was still pleasing to his eye. He took a seat in front of her, hoping to provide her company when she barely had any. “I hear you haven’t been sleeping well.”
“I haven’t,” Cecelia answered. She gave a bit of chuckle.
“I wanted to bring you an aliment I used for when I couldn’t sleep at night, but I’m afraid your mother forbid me from giving it to you.”
Cecelia laughed. When she laughed, Xerxes’ heart skipped another beat.
“My mother,” Cecelia settled herself. “She’s controlling my pregnancy like my father tries to control the war.”
“I don’t blame her,” Xerxes shook his head. “Any good mother would want their children to have healthy children.”
“My mother only wants to control something. I suspect her world has been turned upside down since the invasion here. She needs to feel like she has control of something to feel normal. That’s why Dahlia’s grasp on the Nine was tightened. That’s why your peers have also found solace in them as well. We all need to feel control when things are falling apart.”
Xerxes shifted in his seat. Uncomfortable with the idea that things were falling apart around him. His lips parted when he licked them. “I remember that invasion.”
“Where were you?” she sat up.
“In the heat of it. In the maze. I fought their ugly faces,” Xerxes sighed. “Killed a few of them.”
“I’m glad you survived,” she smiled. “Was it rough? Was it the hardest thing you’ve ever done?”
“I suppose,” Xerxes admitted. “I’ve been trained to defend Highgarden since I was young. I wouldn’t consider it the hardest thing because I was prepared for it. Would you say marrying Loki was the hardest thing you have ever done?”
Cecelia nodded. “I understand.”
“I had heard a strange rumor about that night,” Xerxes said. “Something I was told to never ask you about, but if I may, I’d like to ask my lady about it.”
“You may,” Cecelia nodded. Xerxes bit his lip, hesitant now that he held onto the rumor for this long.
“I heard you were also in the maze that night. Why? Do not be offended, my lady, but you certainly couldn’t take on the invasion by yourself.”
Cecelia’s smile faded. Her face casted down as if a terrible memory had been called back to her. Xerxes opened his mouth to apologize for the comments, but Cecelia answered his question anyways.
“I had done wrong,” she admitted. She fidgeted with the blanket over her lap. “I read my husband’s books and journals without his consent. I invaded his privacy, and he punished me for it.”
“Punished you?” Xerxes reacted. “He put you in the maze as punishment?” His anger rose within him. Cecelia shook her head.
“No,” she clarified. “Loki’s anger did not put me in the maze that night. I didn’t realize he possessed magical powers then. His anger blasted me from my seat. I was afraid of him, so I ran into the maze. I didn’t know enemies were already within the perimeter of us.”
Xerxes’ anger rose ten times as high. His fists closed and opened.
“He used his magic to attack you? Am I understanding that correctly?” he said, holding in the bubbling anger that threatened him to explode.
“Yes, but—
“Could you excuse me, my lady?” he interrupted her. When Cecelia nodded, Ser Xerxes swiftly exited the room. He waited for a reason. Any kind of reason. Now, he had it. This Dark prince had truly lived up to his awful name. He had hurt his lady. He had used dark magic on her and harmed her. He was not fit to be a king of anything.
Xerxes stormed down a hall. His anger filling his face with red. He imagined his sword piercing into Loki’s chest several times. He wondered if the man even bled. This man couldn’t possibly be human.
Xerxes turned down another hall and knocked on a wooden door three, quick times. The door clicked open and Xerxes found himself facing an older knight. One that had been at Highgarden this entire time. One that protected the Gardener family for most of his life.
“Ser Petra,” Xerxes said.
“Ah, Xerxes, how can I help you?” he smiled.
“I’ve come to accept your offer.”
“Oh?” Ser Petra crossed his arms. “What was the deciding factor?”
“Cecelia. She told me what truly transpired that night of the invasion. Why she was in the maze that night. It’s true. Loki harmed her on purpose,” Xerxes spat.
“So?” Ser Petra said.
“Loki must die,” Xerxes said. He grasped Ser Petra’s left arm in his. “My sword is yours now.”
“For the cause,” Ser Petra corrected. “Not for me but for the cause.”

Some of My Favorite Ladies
I was tagged by @fangirlingtodeath513 to share some of my favorite female characters...and wow, this was hard. If I could just pick ten, it would be easy as pie, but the rules say from ten different fandoms and I am a good girl who never breaks the rules. ;) I managed, but it was a close thing. (Honestly, I wanted to pick nearly all of them from Doctor Who...!)
Anyway...
The rules are to list ten of your favorite female characters from ten different fandoms and then tag ten different people.
1. Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (Battlestar Galactica) - I may be 39 years old, but I still have days when I say “I want to be Starbuck when I grow up.” Yes, she is deeply flawed. But she is strong, and she cares deeply, and when she has a task she throws herself into it with her everything. She is my patronus, my spirit animal, and I will always cry when I think of “Maelstrom” and the BSG finale.
Tumblr media
2. River Song (Doctor Who) - What can be said about River that hasnt already been said? So much of her story is some dude saying “you can’t do that” and her saying “watch me,” kicking ass while reapplying her lipstick or flirting with the Doctor. She shot a Silence she couldn’t see (behind her)--or even remember--all because she saw that Rory had a scared look on his face [”Day of the Moon”]. She loved her parents, she loved the Doctor, and she did the hard things even when she knew what was coming after. ((I need a hug))
Tumblr media
3. Charlie Bradbury (Supernatural) - Of course. Charlie rules. But I’m not bitter. Clever, funny, adorable, just snarky enough when it’s needed...Charlie is (I refuse to even think the past tense) perfect.
Tumblr media
4. Olivia Dunham (Fringe) - Oh Chuck how I miss this show. (And yes, I know I just mixed my fandoms. Deal with it.) Olivia is the perfect mix of strong and vulnerable. She is way badass and can take down any bad dude you throw at her, but she is so soft with Peter, or Walter, or any child who needs help. She takes the insanity of Fringe division in stride, and she survives the alternate universe on her own. Seriously amazing.
Tumblr media
5. Luna Lovegood (the Harry Potter books) - Luna, I’ll admit, reminds me of me. Quirky. Unconcerned with what other people think. Fiercely loyal. Bookish. She is, I think, smarter than me, but she’s fictional so I don’t feel too bad about that. ;) I love her. I’ll admit it: when I re-read the series, I find myself thinking, “okay, but when do we get to Luna again??” as I read the earlier books!
Tumblr media
6. Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - this one was easy, but also not. Easy because BtVS was my first true obsession, television-wise. It was the first show I watched over and over and over, the first show I could quote long sections of, the first show I actually cried when it ended. But it was not easy too, because I also love Willow with my whole heart. And if you’d asked me to choose fifteen years ago I almost certainly would have chosen Willow. But these days I identify more with Buffy. No, I don’t have a weighty destiny or super powers (I wish), but I do have three children, and that in itself puts what sometimes feels like the weight of the world on my shoulders. Fifteen years ago I didn’t know what it felt like to be truly responsible for the life of another. Now I’m responsible for three (along with my husband, of course). It’s not the same, I know, but since my first son was born just about ten and a half years ago I find myself identifying with Buffy more and more. It’s funny how perspectives change.
Anyway, personal introspection aside, Buffy saves the world. A lot. Do I have to say more?
Tumblr media
7. CJ Cregg (The West Wing) - Okay, I know this show has been off the air for ages. I don’t care. I love CJ. She has an impossible job and she does it with grace and courage with the whole world watching her...and then she gets an even more impossible job, and she’s even better. And she’s not afraid to speak her mind to the president, or whoever needs to hear it. Awesome.
Tumblr media
8. Alanna of Trebond and Olau (Song of the Lioness quartet and other books of Tortall by Tamora Pierce) - And here’s where I delve into places it’s likely fewer people have gone....but really should. I first picked up Alanna: The First Adventure, the first book in the Song of the Lioness quartet, when I was 12. I found it on a paperback rack in my middle school’s library. I was instantly hooked, and I’ve never looked back. Ten year old Alanna and her twin brother, Thom, have a problem. Alanna is supposed to go to the convent to learn to be a lady. Thom is supposed to go to the palace to learn to be a knight. But Alanna wants to be a knight and Thom wants to study magic. So they trade places. Alanna becomes Alan, hiding her sex. (Thom is lucky; at the convent they train boys to use magic as well as training up girls to be young noblewomen.) It is never easy, but the lesson is a good one--not that boy” things are better, but that one should be free to choose whichever path they want in life, if they are willing to work for it.
I’ve read and re-read these books over and over and over again. It was actually difficult to choose my favorite of Pierce’s heroines (each quartet focuses on a different character but they all take place in the same world and interconnect). Alanna will probably be my favorite forever just because she was the first, but I also love her daughter, Aly
9. Lirael, daughter of the Clayr (the Old Kingdom books, by Garth Nix) - These books are very, very high on my list of all-time favorites, and Lirael herself is a big part of that. For a long time she struggles with finding her place in a world that doesn’t seem to want her, but when she finds her true calling she steps into her place without hesitation. It’s beautiful to “see”. Plus she starts out as a magic-wielding, crossbow-carrying librarian. Awesome.
(Okay, feel free to laugh at me for this last one, I can take it...)
10. Fluttershy (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) - Yes. My Little Pony. I started out watching this with my little girl...but I kept watching it on my own. I’ve seen every episode...more than once. Shh! It’s our secret, okay?? ;) All of the mane six have qualities that I admire, but Fluttershy is my favorite. Again, she reminds me most of myself. She is quiet and reserved, keeping mostly to herself unless she is around her friends. But if you wrong one of her friends or her animals--watch out! She becomes a force to be reckoned with. I love that, and I can so relate.
Tumblr media
Honorable mention: Jody Mills (SPN), Rose Tyler (Doctor Who), Donna Noble (Doctor Who), Amy Pond (Doctor Who), Willow Rosenberg (BtVS), Hermione Granger (Harry Potter), Astrid Farnsworth (Fringe), Keladry of Mindalen (Tortall), Aly Homewood (Tortall)
Because who cares about the rules
And now I tag...

12x22 watching notes
*loud Dean!girl tears*
Cup of Tea No. 1:
Expectations - Berens Buckleming Clean Up Operation, which tbh when you rank writers by skill at this job WAS the top of the game over Dabb but then Perez showed up. But I still expect a competent job.
This appears to be the BMoL and Mary wrap up episode, although on this show appearances can be deceiving.
As a fervent Mary stan this season, I'm hoping they don't kill her but if they do kill her she dies next episode for heroic reasons, not this episode for rubbish hubris reasons, although I am open to being won over to a tearful passing if they actually get to friggin communicate everything with her, and in that respect I feel we've been waiting since 12x03 for Berens to get back to the point he was making there...
I EXPECT Ketch to die bloody, but ever since last episode I've been pre-emptively disappointed that he's going to be mauled by his own hellhound. Slightly less disappointed if Dean opens the cage and says "Sic 'im, boy," to the dog, because this IS an episode by Bobo "Drowley" Berens.
Aside from that, I've pretty much got nothing because I haven't been speculating ahead on much or really daring to entertain any ideas, except for firmly staking my entire farm on the mystery dude from the 2 in 1 trailer being "Garth with padding" so I expect I will be handing over my farm soon. Although I assume that's in 12x23 and therefore not yet and maybe not for hours.
[note from past me ‘hours’ yeah okay this episode literally ended up making me bedridden and too weak to move by the halfway point so I took like 24 hours from start to finish :P]
-
Oh yeah, Dean's got a pending 7 years ago "welcome to next time" for Walt or Roy from Dark Side of the Moon. One or the other is supposed to be in this episode. The reminder of 5x16 nudges all its themes onto the table, and it's nice that it's a Dabb episode, the one that wrecked Dean n Cas's faith, ruined Heaven for Sam n Dean, and had Zach attempt to ruin Mary for Dean with that chilling speech that after 12x03 we were saying really cut too close to home on what Dean might have thought after Mary walked out.
-
Quick Jody recap. Not entirely sure if the "Jody is good people" line comes from 10x20 about Claire, or 7x22 about not!Jenna, the Alpha's blood slave, but it certainly wasn't about Alex, although it's laid over a clip of them together, and the only reminder about Jody is that she adopts wayward daughters.
-
Blah blah  murder!Mary, capturing Toni recap, Mary is brainwashed, bunker is gonna kill you... Noticing Ketch saying the air will "reverse" which means what, exactly, but anyway goes with the theme of reversing things. He also has an extremely punchable face, and since DHJ grew his beard back, all these con photos from the other day have been literally unrecognisable and I keep wondering who the normal looking bloke is hanging out on stage with them, because I'm so used to him looking like this:
Tumblr media
-
(brief break because Berens episodes always make me really sick for some reason)
-
Anyway.
NOW.
-
Dead guy (thing?) on a truck.
Dead guy. Mary used some reaaaally horrible cat claw looking knuckle dusters or something to kill him. BMoL including savergy as part of the deal; Mary is the hellhound who tears up these guys. Not just being effective at killing - it has to be horrible too. And Mary's been getting used to killing monsters horribly - why should it matter when it's people?
-
the obvious problem next season is the hunters have been decimated so monsters are going to be a much bigger problem and sam and dean can't rely on all these random nobody hunters to stop the next generation of tragic backstories.
This one was called Lester, and I watched 10x02 waaay to recently and that's the guy who got screwed over by Sam's demon deal shenanigans and Dean killed.
-
Oh no I think he worked in Auto Repair - Bobby would have been a target if only they still had a Bobby
-
Bobby would not have stood for this. Mary would have been in the panic room in a flash through some trickery and smart paranoia :P
-
Aaaaah Jody's on the hit list. Who did Jody ever hurt???
I can tell you why that's stupid even for the BMoL: aside from killing law enforcement being a dumb idea in general to not draw attention to yourself, the local sheriff type hunters will literally always be the sort to get involved in cases on a local level and start hunting for themselves to protect a small town like Jody did... you're never going to stop them popping up and you're removing a valuable local level resource and I bet there are others like Jody who just didn't have the misfortune to know the Winchesters who literally never fight above their weight limit but are ready for vampires to come to town >.>
I know she's on the hitlist because she's an associate of the Winchesters but I mean... their overall plan is STUPID if they're going after hunter cops in general. Pfft
-
*Sam, Dean and Toni bicker entertainingly*
-
Toni argues that they NEED her so THEY don't kill her. It's like... on the endless infinite loops of Crypt Scene reversals, this one is Toni arguing for HER life to UNDO a brainwashing if they don't kill her, using the keyword "you need me", and... yeah. Same sort of deal - someone saying stuff to not get killed and there's brainwashing involved.
-
Sam: "LORE"
-
DAY ONE
-
Remember how 11x14 is one of my favourite Sam episodes because Berens just sometimes writes the Perfect Sam, and he's all peppy and researchy? I've seen literally 2 seconds of this scene and I'm like, yeah, he's at it again.
Berens's take on Sam is probably the interpretation I've funnelled into Terrible Coffee AU, mostly because I laughed SO HARD at excessively caffienated Sam in 11x14 and what it did to his personality, I decided then and there I would never write a scene with him where he hadn't had at least 4 cups of coffee
-
Sam found a gremlin spell :D
-
Pfft they need to purify some blood to make it work. While the Bunker is on lockdown and the lights are flashing red. Dean's even wearing a red shirt, though it's a plaid one, because he's in the family again unlike 10x03, and Toni's the ~invading element~ who last episode like demon!Dean spat a load of bitter truths at Sam, did the same to Mary.
-
Aw they're all combining their blood. They're in like some sort of pact now, that they all at least want to live, at least long enough to try killing each other in free air. But yeah, no one of them is being relied on to be the purified one - symbolic that while they hate each other, when it comes to getting free none of them is being more self-righteous than the others, and also an admission that none of their bloods are pure enough that any of them could have lorded it over the others.
-
(Sam, of course, is working with Toni and compartmentalising everything about how she tortured and mind-raped him)
-
Brains failed, now for brawn. (Sam and Dean still being aligned this way, and each having a day to try their thing)
I hate seeing a map of the Bunker as if it makes sense, but it reassuringly magically produces a brand new wall we've never seen before with a convenient exit right behind it - "let's Shawshank this bitch" - so I figure its magic is still at work. It's brainwashed too - it doesn't want to kill them, so it's doing its best to help :<
They need to manually override it.
-
Dean immediately gets repurcussions for his idea by getting a shard of concrete in his eye. Probably not symbolic
-
Also they probably wasted a ton of air doing that
-
"how did this happen?" "which part?" "all of it" - haven't hit play but cosmic consequeeeences
-
"We had Cas back, we had Mom back"... I assume Dean's priorities have been pointed out by everyone but I'm doing it anyway. Even if you just say he's listing them and had to go one way or the other, and "Mom" is the more surprising one, but still... Cas being got by Lucifer was like, up there with things that getting him back was like getting Mary back, in how happy it made Dean. That is a Thing.
Also belatedly had some Thoughts and came back to this point, that Amara is really the big bad of this season too, but as an abstract concept of chaos, which she represents, where her 2 actions for Dean were to give him Cas and Mary back, but between throwing Lucifer wherever to let him carry on as he liked, and bringing Mary back to get tangled in this, she creates the two heads of the end of season chaos, and both arcs (and Mary and Cas have been mirrored all the way as the two sides of this sort of looping around each other)... I guess what I'm saying is I expect chaos and I'm blaming it on her, but it's belatedly given me a really interesting way to look at the randomness of the season.
-
Sam's regretting things. Give him a dog. *ruffles his damp hair* He was just too optimistic for his own good. He wanted the world wide scale doing good thing, and wanted to follow along instead of leading.
Whenever I think of Sam and leading I think about boy!king Sam and the plans that were apparently there for him. He had the "I'm not a leader" arc like 6 years before Cas did, and it turned out it was all a con anyway, but the point is, Sam very very firmly does not like being put in a position of responsibility, probably has season 2-3 trauma related to it, since it was how he first died, and then how Ruby met him, swearing loyalty to him as if he would be that leader...
Ironically in 12x14 and Berens knows this full well as he writes Sam saying this, Sam took control and leadership of the situation and crisis-managed it all the way through to a dead Alpha vamp, getting the hero shot and everything, but he still blamed the BMoL over and over that they were the ones who did all the hard work, and turned to them for guidance, instead of seeing what he did there.
As Leviathan!Dean once said, but, uh, reapply this to being a GOOD leader, they're strong and smart and so on... He just went to the end that it was a perfectly good opportunity to subjugate the weak (which is what the BMoL want) and of course Sam would rather not do that :P
-
Cup of Tea no. 2
-
Oh crap, they're have a Moment about how they want to die, talking about how they didn't imagine it being this way because, well, who plans to be murdered by their own Bunker
-
I don't think Dean plans to die this way any more
-
Did Dean just....
he did
-
Toni hates the Americans
-
YEAH DEAN
He's gonna remember that forever.
If he's not dead and tbh if he is he just died happy
-
Having an explosion in the Bunker was a terrible way to use up all the oxygen
YAY Dean did the thing and all the smoke is clearing
I suppose because this is on the CW Dean doesn't stumble in with a massive boner from finally getting to use it
This was already a symbolic victory for the crazy American way of hunting.
-
Oh dear, it's Mary.
-
She is covered in blood and just walks up to the door, and Jody's like... okay I guess this is what happens with the Winchesters.
I think 12x06 softened her up too much to the idea they just show up covered in the last hunt and want to watch TV
-
Omg GARTH IS ALIVE. For now?
"You and Bess need to get someplace safe" :3 Thanks for looking after them for me
I mean now Eileen's dead and Garth is still alive I feel sort of bad for using his life to bargain with. Hence hoping he's mystery guy.
-
Nyoooom
-
oh that was a cruel fake trail of blood.
I mean real blood but fake anyone got killed because Jody is upright and Alex is next to her and Mary's just got a bleeding nose and a smirk while being wrapped in rope.
"Hello boys"
-
Heee Alex and Jody took down Mary and they're being proud of each other for doing it
I love them so much so I am in absolute terror that one or both of them dies
-
oh dear Dean's stuck in a room with Jody and Mary and she's taunting Jody for playing mom to Dean - 9x19 comes immediately to mind, and Momma taunting Jody for doing the same to Alex, which is how she got her in the first place. And Mary's tied to a chair and all she's got is the same demon!Dean thing from 10x03 to snark at Dean and tell Jody she can have him.
Honestly, Dean's adapted a lot very well to even survive watching Mary say she doesn't want him to his face.
He doesn't look HAPPY but he didn't like, burst into tears and/or storm out the room
"What's the matter, Dean? Am I too different from the Mary you know? Or too much the same?"
The whole messed up family thing in one go here >.> Mary mirroring Dean as demon!Dean having a dark side that renounced his family and claimed to have always been this thing, and Mary doing the same...
-
Lol Mary's hiding behind "inpenetrable psychic walls" - that's not the metaphor the Bunker was warning about us or anything, OR anything deeply symbolic about all the character stuff for Sam and Dean where they hide behind walls of "the story became the story" and all that. Looks like maybe this is how Dean is forced to tell Mary all the dark horrible truth about her deal and all that we saw in the script they teased? That he has to try and find a way to ease her out from behind it, maybe taking a few scratches and shrapnel in the eye to get there, but... Can he grenade launcher through it with his words??
-
"They can't be torn down with grenades"
Dean is too sad to even do a "watch me try"
-
Random hunters!
-
And Walt and Roy!
-
"No hard feelings" yeah it's much easier to understand when Sam's alive and that was 7 years ago and honestly so much character growth since then or something
Nice demonstration of putting aside bad feelings to work together
-
Dean leaves Sam to do the big presentation and Sam stumbles over introducing it as a personal problem he and Dean have ended up with, but then suddenly drops into inspirational speaking about "our people", taking on the burden as a leader :D
(I mean that's like the one thing they told us in PR but it was "sam n dean" and look I'm really proud of him okay? Berens writes a Sam I love)
Sam also admits, in front of Walt and Roy even, that he was one of the hunters who messed up and were suckered in by their flashy tech. Admitting that the current terrible scenario is his fault again, when that's what they originally killed him for - whatever was on the hunter grapevine about what Sam Winchester had done...
-
blah blah America is great land of the free etc *Sam finishes the speech with an American flag flying behind him*
-
But I mean good laying out of the philosophies of what they see hunting is really all about - the whole cops and robbers thing Sam talked about in 12x14 but thought the BMoL could help with that instead of seeing they weren't going to be anything like what he idealised about the job.
And he asks them to follow him :')
-
I hope the near-death experience made Dean change his mind about dying bloody too
-
Dean's so proud
Me too
-
Oh no he's sitting it out. Literally because he blew his own fucking leg up.
-
I'm sitting this out too... I'm in too much pain to continue doing anything useful right now
-
Cup of coffee no. 1
-
Morning! So Sam gets his big character growth moment to maybe not mess up leading a thing this time (people are going to die but they know that... more alarmingly, Jody's going with them >.>) and Dean's saying behind to fix Mary. He gives a speech to Sam about doing that which sounds almost exactly like the sort of thing Sam was saying about demon!Dean - if there's any of them still in there they're going to find it and bring them back.
The Mary stuff has always been emotionally more on Dean's side just because Sam would be perfectly content for her to exist and see what happens (which is probably an unspoken part of how the BMoL suckered him in that he didn't mention in the big speech to the other hunters) - he gets the external evil to fight, something which helps fix his and especially Mary's mistakes by taking down the operation, while Dean deal with Mary.
It only just occurred to me typing this, even though I've had like 14 hours since I found out what the plan was, that that puts Sam in a Ketch-ish direction if he's going to be anywhere predictable. I'm still torn about this because I want Sam to kill him for Eileen but Mary's got a personal beef too and I'd honestly be sort of confused if despite being the least-most-invested in killing Ketch, Dean doesn't get pitted against him, partially because this is The Raid pt.2 (this time the hunters doing exactly what the vampires did when they were all being killed off) and partly because stuff just kind of happens to Dean more. But it's entirely unfair of him to hog ALL the emotional catharsis if he's got Toni and Mary with him trying to fix Mary, and then ALSO has to deal with an unexpected Ketch
-
Oh dear, Alex just told Jody to kick it in the ass while heading off to a safe house with Donna. It's sort of the show generic rallying cry because Kim Manners, but it's also the Ellen and Jo bye bye phrase, and I don't like this. I have suddenly remembered I am very very worried about one or both of them, and Alex unfortunately still don't have much point to be in this episode except it's weird to pretend Jody doesn't have a family just because the actresses need herding, Claire's purposefully driven off into the sunset so doesn't seem to be a part of this, and that leaves Alex here to either kill or react to Jody being killed.
-
Sam and Dean do the bitch/jerk thing which in a show where there was actual threat to either of them dying would make them having a "don't die pls" farewell unnerving for the exact above reasons, but just makes me feel like everyone's having tearful goodbyes to try and pretend the stakes are equally high - at least, the characters think so - to obscure killing off Jody.
-
The BMoL have Sam and Dean on their board with "ELIMINATED" underneath them. Losers.
Aaaah I forgot Claire was a potential target though. The WORST thing they could do is kill her off-screen without ceremony and let Jody and Alex find out because Jody bursts into the control room and sees Claire's picture with "ELIMINATED" under it
-
Oh nope Ketch is getting nervous about where his asset is so he gets the "keep it between us" info that Mary's in Lebanon, Kansas, aka time for Ketch to not be around to get killed in the base (making it infinitely easier to raid for everyone else) and for him to go exactly where I assumed he would.
-
Sorry Sam, you get the second hand reassurance that Ketch paid for it >.>
-
Nighty night, Dean and Mary :D I'm surprised they didn't just say African Dream Root but I suppose the BMoL have had time to develop these technologies and magical chemistry that makes the stuff work, and dream root does come with the problem that you can literally kill someone in one of the dreams, it's so real, and tidying up all the lore on how to do this sort of thing would make sense if they wanted to not have to deal with any odd plotholes from that. Using electrodes and stuff to link Dean and Mary connects them without the basic way dream root does it, polyjuice potion style, so theoretically neither of them should have control over the other, although Dean's entering Mary's head?
-
WHERE'S THE SOCK MONKEY? INACURRATE. FAKE.
Oh well, I suppose there's some sort of weird symbolism sticking Dean in that chair to wake up but without Dean's sock monkey it just doesn't feel real to me.
-
I suppose it could be any old day of the week not like dropping Dean directly into the scene in 1x01, since it's daylight beyond the windows, so perhaps Mary has been tidying and Dean's sock monkey is in his room where it belongs and it just happened to be on the floor in 1x01 because she hadn't tidied that day >.>
-
Dean whatever you do do not pick up the tiny Sammy. He's very cute but I have a bad feeling about randomly appearing babies.
Oh it's so weird to regress Mary back to the Mary she was stuck at the whole time of the show for 11 seasons. I mean MARY said she was stuck there in 12x03 as well but her surface actions have all been really different, obviously. And at this point... Dean looks stunned to see her and I don't think it's just because it's the "wow Mom" shock he would get all the previous times, but now, FINALLY looking at her as someone who she USED to be...
Oh no he's so small.
This is what he looked like when he wore the "I wuv hugs" shirt. He's seeing it from the other side now.
Dean could pick HIMSELF up.
Oh noooo he's eating PB&J I didn't sign up for this.
I was expecting him to do this but I was not expecting it to be Dark Side of the Moon over again instead of 1x01. I thought he was going to go do something similar to Sam in the vision Azazel showed him in 2x21, but I suppose the point is that they return to the most important moment to them, and for Dean it was eating PB&J with his mom. It's utterly tragic that Dean and Mary have the same Heaven memory but from different sides, because one of the worst  things about Heaven is the isolation - if you don't know to start pressing on the walls looking for roads or loose threads, you can stay in a dream for eternity, and Mary and Dean might be living the exact same moment over and over again, but without each other... I'm not saying they should be soulmates, I'm saying Heaven should be more like what Ash made of it without the sneaking around and needing an advanced understanding of quantum physics or an angel to tell you what to do to start hopping between Heavens.
Of course put too many people together and they start talking and questioning and it's easier to keep them content if they don't have the ability to think about their situation deeply and philosophically, but are drugged up in their Heaven dream with happiness and mindless contentment living over their best times again.
And now Dean's stuck on the outside looking in of the same moment just as Sam was 7 years ago (you know maybe last night I was wondering if we'd come back here because I was thinking Roy and Walt were a very obvious clue... This is what happens when  you take 14 hours off)
-
YEAH JODY. FUCK THE LAW. RUN A GUY OVER. SHOOT SOMEONE.
LOL Roy and Walt are driving Gadreel's car
-
Of course in the way the show endlessly loops around itself, what Dean is doing, especially the sitting opposite Mary while her brain is hacked thing, is 9x10 again. Toni is Crowley but this time Dean is going in himself.
-
"You're choosing this" *Dean is horrified* *has only just gone through this with Cas last year* He hates that anyone would choose not free will because, well, contradiction. But Mary has regressed back to how she would have been in Heaven - living in the dream and not really able to think about what's outside herself, and so the choice to stay is very easy: abstract pain and harsh reality, or just not thinking about it. In a way it's almost like trying to right what she feels was done wrong to her - all those gifsets comparing it to Buffy talking about how she didn't ask to be brought back and how she had been happy in Heaven. To Mary, THAT was the violation of her free will...
"I hate you"
Aaand Dean reaches the most dramatic part of HIS character arc relating to Mary.
Ironically one of the B99 episodes I caught up while laying around like a dead fish yesterday included one where Holt got annoyed Amy wouldn't stand up to him even after he lost her favourite pen, and eventually wound her up enough to make her yell at him and dare to disrespect her superior officer (... to an Amy degree anyway :P) and, yeah. Same deal; Dean's been completely INCAPABLE of expressing anything negative to/about Mary, and even the argument in 12x14 was more a sort of downwards bump in this relationship, because within the episode he decided to reconcile with her *just* because she was Mary, and of course the argument was not as stark and final sounding as "I hate you" - reconciling with her after was just putting that aside in order to keep her around, not any sort of conclusion to this fight.
-
lol getting some more use out of the sci fi corridors to randomly mimic the opening of A New Hope, though the BMoL are literally "the empire" and the American hunters are the "rebels"
-
oh I think Roy or Walt is already dead. Lol. Sucks to be them.
(they DID just think they were doing what was right in 5x16 but still. They've been a statisticaly anomoly to be someone who killed a Winchester and lived to tell the tale (I suppose the lady from Wishful Thinking as well but she was as much a victim of the spell as anything so it doesn't... count...?? I suppose the people from Mystery Spot who helped kill Dean all those 1000s of time as well :P))
Anyway being a redshirt on this mission gets them killed on the Winchesters' behalf so fair's fair
-
Oh boy here's the stuff from Dean's confrontation with Mary, and aside from squeezing her eyes not to listen it's completely one-sided as Jensen delivers the sort of Dean monologue which of all the monologues which should have got him an Emmy already, this is the best. This is terrible :D
He's using instead of "we love you" truths to get to her, the HoRRIBLE truth that she's been owed THIS ENTIRE TIME
Anyway he's blaming his whole tragic backstory on her instead of Azazel, because the story has become the story that even after 4x03 Dean's managed to keep Mary pretty much exactly on the pedestal he always kept her on rather than confront that she is the root cause of his angst, which involves her death... He's letting go of everything. Seeing her saying she wants the best for him and will keep him safe, but he knows she's saying this having ALREADY made the deal, and that her entire happy life with her kids was ALWAYS a sham because she ALWAYS knew something bad was coming, but while she was living like this she put herself entirely into that dream to ignore it.
"You left us, ALONE, because Dad was just a shell" holy crap the show is actually OVER, what's even left to SAY
I know when Mary came back, around this time last year we were screeching about the development he'd be offered by this, by finally getting to confront his family history again and get to be at peace with the way he was raised and all that... It's gutting to watch it in real time though
"I had to be a father, and I had to be a mother"
holy shit I wish I could send this scene back to season 10 me to see :D Like, right after 10x03. Because the character thread in Dean I've been following the entire time I've been in fandom has been waiting to see if this would ever get resolved well, after 10x03 where demon!Dean blurted out similar to Sam but from the worst possible place, at HIS lowest point. (This is not Dean's lowest point. Lowest point for his relationship with his mom, but higest peak he's ever stood on for his own personal strength. Holy crap I'm proud of my boy.)
(The phrasing here is all kind of reminiscent of 10x05's song about John and Mary and it's making me laugh inappropriately because the start of season 10 nailed all this so much)
And the thing is by setting this all here in the Dark Side of the Moon day it's a completely timeless moment - like sure there's some vague outside stuff going on like it's BECAUSE of the BMoL but Dean's ONLY talking about their history, their past, how his life was all the time since ever, and the historical facts of Mary's life. Any time since 5x16 they COULD have pulled the trigger on a scene like this, because all they needed was a run up to get Dean in the right mood to say it all. Of course this is the end result of a massive, at least 4 years project to tear Dean down and build him back up and have his character development go on an absolutely incredible journey... At this point I feel like the sports commentator yelling encouragement on the final lap before an absolutely record breaking victory.
"I couldn't do it - and you want to know what that was like?" YES PLEASE KEEP TALKING
Dean lists all the shit that's happened to Sam like the bitter Sam!girl he is and says "all because of you"
I think at this point I just want to look back at 1x09, where Mary as a ghost goes to Sam, before almost any of this happens except Jess dying and the horrible upbringing, and says "I'm sorry" because she KNEW what she'd done to him, and she died guilty about it. She said in 12x02,
MARY: And when we do find Sam... how am I gonna face him? DEAN: What do you mean? MARY: That yellow-eyed thing would never have come for him that night if I... I started all of this.
but with all the massive miscommunication themes she didn't go talk to Sam when she should have - when he came to her in the end of the episode and hugged her, she should have apologised there, and made a start on it. And if not then, then in 12x03, although I'm feeling like from the moment she cut her hair it was too late and she was already avoiding who she had once been, chopping off the style associated with herself as their mom and stepping into what would become this demon!Dean-like brainwashed Mary. I suppose it makes sense to say in 12x02 she raised the problem that she had to face sam somehow, and she DIDN'T and then we got 12x03, the mirror episode to this one on this side of the story (and it feels like Berens has made one of those clear lines through the season, with 12x14 being mirrored on the other side of this episode, in the way Robbie owned season 9 - so like I hand season 9 to Robbie, I'm giving Berens season 12 :P Good work on all this, sir.) In 12x03 Mary is faced with the haunted house full of mirrors to exactly what she's NOT seeing here - Sam as the burned, soulless doll in a crib, the object the demons passed around, and eventually was nothing but a hollow person, as Dean ends it on describing that Sam lost his soul. And for Dean, she sees the little boy, and she hasn't moved past that, but Dean had to tell her from the moment she died he wasn't that any more - he was the parent of the family. She's got her family regressed here again, because confronting it in 12x03 just made her run away. And this is as far as she's run, through the season, literally just running on the spot in this exact place.
Outside Mary is crying, but inside Mary is refusing to show anything. Maybe it's just because where her consciousness is - she won't cry on the face Dean can see. He's leaking tears in the dream but not on the outside. But yeah, she can pick one (1) set of tear ducts to angrily repress. Because at the end of the day, Mary has always been the one more like Dean.
Dean FINALLY gets through the "i hate yous" he's always needed to say to get back to "i love you"
*slowly sinks underneath the blankets* Yeah, saying "I love you" to Mary is the only way he's ever been able to get it out before - the speculation being that once he's worked through his COLLOSAL issues with his parents he might be able to say "I love you" more casually to others because he's at peace. I can SEE him settling into being at peace now, which I think is all that Amara INTENDED when bringing Mary back, but obviously the MASSIVE repercussions going on outside their little insular family bubble.
And Dean forgives her. And says on the other side of this, they can rebuild their family and make it work. AAAAAAH.
(AAAAAAAAH)
Finally he gets to the "but I need you to fight"
"Mom I need you to see me" Oh god this is so good and painful
Mary's crying on the inside too! But in this case it's good because that's the part of her that can see Dean
And we're back to mirroring the start of the season, the very opening scene, but this time Mary recognises Dean and gets to say his name first, instead of Dean crashing out of the trees at her, yelling "Mom", and getting his ass handed to him :P He had to tell her who she was, but this time he told her who HE was. And NOW she sees him, now he took down every single wall between them.
-
LOL Oops bye Toni nice knowin' ya except for all the times you were terrible.
If Dean had trusted her - and if they'd changed the freakin LOCKS again - she might not be dead.
Ketch does the thing again where instead of just killing his targets, he wants to talk to them, so he wakes Dean up instead of just slitting his and Mary's throats while they're unconscious.
-
I suppose now it's on Mary to wake up and save Dean
-
I was torn on who needed to kill the dark mirror of John more, but honestly, Dean's done, came out of the oven perfectly risen and smelling great, so he does not need to reject John. He sees John accurately and describes him in that speech in such a way... His memory doesn't have to haunt Dean, and he's forgiven Mary too.
(And we never mentioned the cupids. Pfft.)
-
christ, Dean's being given the Swan Song beatdown with his leg not working. For once he fights back because Ketch is absolutely not a loved one, but he's completely outmatched, and Ketch is enjoying punching him.
He says Mary said absolutely nothing about Dean - Dean knows from being in Mary's head how she DOES care about him, and that she was being brainwashed - he doesn't know for how long... Point is, these words can't hurt. He already made his peace with Mary too.
-
I think Dean just threw Ketch through the SW DW table, which is hilariously dark about their legacy >.> It's more about in the contacts they build outside themselves, and the WORK they do, than anything they write on a table - shots of Sam and Dean thinking about the world while sitting alone in the bunker or in/on the car are often very sad about how isolated and alone they are.
Thinking of which, we're rapidly running out of episode for me to be worried about Jody in.
-
Ahaha Ketch brought a gun to the fight. He says he's not stupid after Dean points out how stupid he was, but he's got his back turned to Mary, and Dean's now in exactly the same place SAM was in 10x03 after the demon!Dean chase, where Cas suddenly came out of nowhere and grabbed Dean.
Oh Dean flinched, he had been watching Ketch. Nice surprise. Mary's back :D
Dean hobbles over to stand at her side.
"I knew you were a killer. You both are." "you're right." Yeah, Dean n Mary are a pair aren't they :P Both been through this same arc now. Dean owns the description but I think he has a very different definition than Ketch, for all people tell him that he's a killer. He can kill things for his job and when it needs to be done, but that does NOT mean he's a psychopath like Ketch. And Mary has a heart too and chose the right side.
-
Jody pls don't stand with your back to the open door - this is literally how that random no name got killed in 12x14 and I really really don't like you not covering your back, especially when you're a cop, and even when you think you cleared this place.
-
Oh they all survived. Sam got the news about Lucifer, decided to pass on working with a maybe lesser evil to deal with a bigger one. Jody saves his bacon with the big kill shot.
-
Where does Dean even get prescription painkillers. I suppose he'd have got some when  he broke his leg but aside from that it's pretty much up to them to work out how much to medicate themselves by whatever illegal means off-the-grid people can fake prescriptions or health insurance. Also America's healthcare system is terrible because it seems like an entire adversity all by itself to their lives, while in a free healthcare country... yeah, not so much a big deal :P
-
Mary's got the season 7 Cas guilt now - everything that happened is her fault, she feels. I mean she certainly really helped the BMoL get a foothold and so on although they seemed pretty intent to come on over whether she had anything to do with it or not. But the broken family relationships, yeah, she ran away >.>
-
"What if he can't forgive me?" "Mom. You don't have to be scared of me" *Winchester family sandwich*
I think I'm starting to cry at this show way more often than I used to but oh my god I'm so happy for Sam right now. He misses the entiiiiiiiiire thing but the point he made back at the start of the season is he just wanted Mary THERE and her problem is she was TERRIFIED of him, and having the whole equivalent drama to what Dean just went through with her, but if she knew Sam, that's not him. He zenned out in season 5-7 and has already recovered from like, the whole thing, and piled on totally different trauma :P His arc was so important to resolve to the story they already completed the arc in Swan Song, and it wasn't about Mary but it WAS about peace with himself, and of course all done with external actions and plot drama while Dean had to deal with the internal stuff, literally going inside Mary's head to sort it. Anyway point is Mary doesn't need to be scared of him because there's nothing to be scared of. It's literally as simple as he wants his mom, should she happen to be here. Unlike Dean's entire character arc since season 1 still having been unresolved. And the heart of it was stuff that was obvious since season 1 or the first episode, but Sam got his resolution in season 5, while taking us back to that season 5 moment, showed how Dean did NOT get his resolution when he needed it, because it was never JUST about sam but his entire family.
I wonder how he'll be next season, no matter if Mary survives it or not.
-
Thinking of which, now Berens has finished writing season 12 for us, I suppose Dabb has a whole bucket of fuckery waiting to throw us into season 13.

Hey boozers!
Hope you all had an excellent week! Check out what the WRFB crew read this week.
Linz’s Updates
Writing this as I go to my FINAL holiday obligation, thank jesus
What Linz read
The After Party by Anton DiSciafani: historical midcentury fiction about rich white women in Texas. It’s fine I guess? It’s hard to read books like this in 2020 unless they’re outstanding.
What Linz is currently reading
Wicked As You Wish by Rin Chupeco: still working my way through this ARC. It’s…tough.
The Bride Test by Helen Hoang: the followup to the iffy The Kiss Quotient; a Vietnamese girl is brought to the US by a Vietnamese American woman to woo and be wooed by the woman’s autistic son. Premise alone is putting this above the first book already.
Minda’s Updates
What Minda is reading now:
Becoming by Michelle Obama – About 50% of the way through. Just got to the most adorable proposal ever.
The Better Liar by Tanen Jones – Got this ARC on Netgalley and it comes out on Tues. To my understanding, it’s about two sisters with a not-so-great relationship and now one of them is dead. The catch? The surviving sister needs the other alive to get her half of the inheritance
Sam’s Updates
This was a much better week than I thought it’d be. I feel like I’ve got my brain back, which is super exciting.
What Sam read this week:
I didn’t finish anything… I am ashamed. To be honest, I’m really liking binge watching right now.
What Sam’s currently reading:
Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi: This is the sequel to The Gilded Wolves which Linz reviewed and then so did I because I couldn’t shut up about it. I’m so damn close to the end of this. So damn close. I love my kids. So so much.
Angel Mage by Garth Nix: This is Nix’s newest book that i’m listening to on audio. This is a society that relies on calling upon angels to help them do stuff. Heal, build, spy, etc. When a plague wipes out an entire country, their descendants are suddenly unable to be touched by magic or the same disease overtakes them. Now you can imagine the power dynamics of THAT situation. Anyway, Lilith (of COURSE that’s her name) has some master plan that involves four strangers. Don’t know what it is yet, but I think that’s the point. I think audio was the wrong platform for this, but I’m intrigued.
Ginny’s Updates
Whatsup. Im skiing right now in a different time zone so I’m a bit exhausted in the best way (21 inches of powder is a beautiful beautiful thing).
Finished:
Sapphire Flames by Ilona Andrews: the fourth book in this series might be my favorite. There’s a significant time gap between book 3 and book 4 but it was easy enough to figure out what had happened. The plot was fun. The chemistry was less uncomfortable (i.e. no weird power dynamics). 4/5 stars
Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire: fifth book in the wayward children series and be still my beating heart. Gonna be a review but lets just say I wanted to savor this book but read it in an evening.
The Accusation:Forbidden Stories from Inside North Korea by Bandi: this book is a series of short stories detailing a variety of people coming to realizations about the bleak future of North Korea. The author is apparently part of the communications organization for the State and these stories are beautifully put together and ring if truth. 5/5
Realm Of Ash by Tasha Suri: apparently all I needed was a vacation to finish this book. Gonna review it!
Currently reading:
Becoming RGB by Debbie Levy and Whitney Gardner: this is a charming graphic novel that my sister gave me for Christmas. I LOVE RBG and this is such a cute way of talking about her history!
A Woman Of No Importance by Sophie Purnell: this is a book about an American who joined the British service to set up their spy network in France to help their liberation from the Nazi regime. Its intense.
A Pineapple in a Pine Tree by Eve Pendle: this book was highly recommended by a bunch of romance authors and boy is that all I need. Regency Christmas romance where miscommunication ended a romance five years previously and theyre gonna have to work through their shit.
Until next time, we main forever drunkenly yours,
Sam, Ginny, Linz, and Minda
Weekly Wrap Up: Jan 6 – 12, 2020 Hey boozers! Hope you all had an excellent week! Check out what the WRFB crew read this week.

First thing you gotta do is make a party....simple enough....I     recommend a paladin, warrior, bard, rogue, conjurer, and magician     to start with....        I didn't use a bard in my party but I created one and edited him     to about level 56 when I needed to get farther in Harkyn's castle. A     hunter many be more preferable because they're devastating at higher     levels, but you need a bard, or the teleport spell, to solve the game     so you can do like I did or just make a bard to start, they're really     not that bad.....        Okay, next you want to vist Garth's equipment shop, which is marked     by a "G" on the Skara Brae map, and buy what you need...you can also    sell items that you find and whatever he didn't have he'll keep an    inventory of.        For now, just wander around the town and get some encounters by    going into all the empty building in the street...avoid fighting the    guardian statues, except maybe the samuri one on Rakhir street, and do    this until all your characters reach 2nd level or maybe even 3rd. When    you reach 2nd or whatever the case may be, you might wanna try you luck    against the guardian giant statues, which can be found around the temple    or Fargoer street and right above Harkn's castle off Blue Highway.        Or if you'd rather you can go ahead and kill the samuri on Rakhir    street, go into the bar behind it and have one of your player order a    wine...the bartender will then tell you to go into the wine celler and    pick a bottle, so you do that.        You can wander in here for awhile, though there isn't much to see,    or go down the stairs at (18 north, 7 east) and enter the sewers.        The sewershave a lot more monsters so you'll have your hands full    here, but the only thing you really need to get in here is the name of    the Mad God, which the magic mouth at (4 north, 3 east, 2 below) tells    you...that's the 2nd level of the sewers...        On the 3rd level of the sewers (16 north, 17 east, 3 below) is a set    of stairs that will take you Mangar's tower after you have gotten the    Onyx key, so if you find these before you have the key, don't worry about    it right now.          After you have gotten the name of the Mad God, which is "Tarjan", you    should be ready to enter the catacombs. Go to any of the Mad God's temples    in Grand Plaz and speak to the priest...answer Tarjan and in you go.        The first level is likewise uninteresting, though a much more complex    dugeon, except for an encounter with a serant of the Mad God named Bashar    Kavilor, a master sorceror. You can get to him by going through the one    way door in the big "circle" of doors outside the spiral, but you better    have the phase door spell or apport arcane (teleport) or you won't be able    to get back out unless you kill yourselves. Remember, you don't have to    fight him if you don't want to and can just go to the 3rd level.        In the 3rd level you have to kill the "Ancient with King" and retrieve    the eye of the Mad God. To get to him go to the teleporter at (0,21) and    then you'll appear at (10,7). From here go to the second teleporter at    (21,15) and you'll appear at (13,17). Just follow the winding corridor and    go through the 2 doors until you meet face to face...the "Witch King" is    actually a spectre and very tough at that, even worse his touch drains a    level. You probably won't be able to hit him with weapons so you'll have    to use spells. (stone tough might do the trick, if you have it, but if not    just try your damage spells.)        Don't worry if someone get drained...the temple will restore lost    levels, for a price of course.        If you do kill him and have enough room for more objects then one of    the party will get the eye and you can take the next step in the    adventure...the eye is also worth a good bit so you might want to look at    the duplicating cheat in the cheat section in the program.        The next place to go is, if your ready, Harken's castle. You can tell    if your ready for Hawkyn's castle. The grey gragon statue will always be a    problem if it breathes on your party so don't worry if you lose a few    members to it before you get in the castle, just go to the temple right    outside and get fixed up.        The only thing to get on the first level is the crystal sword at    (0,19). Tough to get to the stairs to the second level you will need a    bard. If you already have one you can go to the throne in the big room and    have the bard sit on it...the only other obstacle will be the captain of    the guardat the end of the next corridor, he is a master ninja but will    not critically hit if he can't hit you; hence a high armor class.       The second level of the castle has quit a bit more, most importantly    the silver square, which you get to by tracing your way to telporter 3.    you will have to go through smoke, which can be dispelled by casting or    recasting a light spell, and answering a riddle, whose answer is    "Vampire". You can also get a ybarrashield if you answer the magic mouth    at (0,19) with "Shields" and you can fight some extremely tough madar    guards at (14,4). I would suggest not fighting these things because like I    said, they're very tough and would give even a party of 15th levels    characters a hard time.       There are a lot of creatures, darkness spots, damage spots, etc. also    on this level but nothing else of significance so you now go to the third    level.       The third level has what you got the eye in the catacombs for and it    can be found at (1,20,2 above) if you can teleport there. It is a statue    of the Mad God which comes to life if you approach it and and one of the    party members has the eye. You then have to fight him but he is really not    as tough as you might think...just cast death strike, stone touch, or    somthing as potent at him.       Immediately after you kill him, you will be telported outside to the    upper-right corner of the town, just outside Kylarean's tower. The only    other thing of intertest on this level is the room with Harkn's legion,    which is 4 sets of 99 beserkers. If you your first 3 characters have an    ac of -8 or better than you have nothing to worry about as long as you can    cast mind blade spell, which affects all of the creature and will kill at    least half of them the first time. If you do kill them all, youre looking    at 65,000 experience points for each member of the party...imagine what    that could do if you kept coming back here...though I wouldn't go through    the trouble without the apport arcane spell.       Oh, by the way, you have to go through the legion before you get to the    Mad God, unless you teleport.       Kylarean's tower was by far the hardest dungeon, not toughest, becuase    it is filled with darkness and is a bitch to map. Anyways the first thing    you have to do is take the teleporter T1 to (21,21) and then follow the    small corridor to T2 which takes you to (12,11). From there go to the    magic mouth at T3 and answer "Stone Golem" and you'll be "ported" to    (8,9), all these coordinates are marked by number appropriate to the    teleporter by the way...From here you have to go to the magic mouth at    (2,12), marked by an 'R' on the map, and answer "Sinister Street". That    will make the door at (5,1) appear so you'll have to make your way to the    maze, but before you go to the door you have to go get the silver circle,    which is at (20,2). After you get it, you can weave your way to and    through that door. Just keep going south through the rooms until you reach    the crystal golem, just pause a moment here to kill it, supposedly the    crystal sword is supposed to help but isn't necessary, and continue. Enter    the follow the long "serpent-way", go to the appropriate rooms, or    whatever it takes to get to teleporter 5. From here just follow the    corridor and at the end you will have to enter a small room, wherein sits    Kylarean. He will give you the onyx keyand then you will have to go    forward once more into the last teleporter, which takes you straight to    the stairs. Then you say bye, bye.       Uh oh, this is it!, you are now ready to face the final challenge! or    are you?       First of all, to get to Mangar's tower you have to go to the stairs on    the 3rd level of the sewers with the onyx key. Then if you are feeling    bold you answer "yes" to whether you what to use the stairsor not.       The first level has nothing special but you'll have to study the map to    see the pattern in which you get to the parts of the dungeon, unless you    teleport anywhere on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels of this dungeon, but not    not anywhere else.       On the second level you get the final silver "Shape" by answering    "Circle" to the magic mouth at the center of the "squares" at (15,4). This    is all you need to do here so you can make your way to the stairs up and    proceed to the third level.       The third level was a bit tricky to get through, but at leastyou have    help. There is a series of inscriptions, 7 to be exact, that were to be    found so you could answer the magic mouth at (4,10). But since I've found    them for you, you can go straight to the mouth. Answer "lie", "with",    "passion", "and", "be", "forever", "damned" in that order with <cr> after    each one and "lost" starirs will appear at (9,3). Before you go though,    you have to get the master key from keymaster for 50,000 gold pieces. Now,    you can go to up the "lost" stairs.       On the fourth level just go to each teleporter in turn until you come    to the point marked "X" on the map. Moving into this spot will cause doors    appear everywhere where there were none and the doorsthat were already    there to disappear...that makes a lot of doors but if you look at the map    you see that you can now get to the portal up....so what are you waiting    for?       Well, this is really it!, The fifth and final level. Go to the    teleporters as you need to and make your way to the pool of boiling    liquid, marked by a 'P' on the map. Then what?, jump in of course! Go    north from where you appear and go to the end of corridor just before the    one-way door. Now you see what you needed the silver shapes for now Huh?    Anyways you can keep going north until you reach Mangar or you can go    through that first door and follow the wall to the right until you reach    the magic mouth at (21,10), which happens to be right above Mangar's room.    Answer "spectre snare" to the magic mouth and you'll get it...you can use    that against Mangar if you want, but a "simple" deathstrike will do it.    When you kill him Kylarean appears and give each party member 300,000    experience points and gold pieces, but doesn't teleport you out and as far    as I know you can't get out unless you kill yourself. Demeaning I know but    at least you get to keep 300,000 gold and experience                                    The End         The Lunatic Phringe BBS     312-965-3677 3/12/24 x100 Baud X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X Another file downloaded from:                     The NIRVANAnet(tm) Seven & the Temple of the Screaming Electron   Taipan Enigma        510/935-5845 Burn This Flag                           Zardoz               408/363-9766 realitycheck                             Poindexter Fortran   510/527-1662 Lies Unlimited                           Mick Freen           801/278-2699 The New Dork Sublime                     Biffnix              415/864-DORK The Shrine                               Rif Raf              206/794-6674 Planet Mirth                             Simon Jester         510/786-6560                          "Raw Data for Raw Nerves" X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X

Oh, the Thing with the Ghosts, the Boys, and the Car?
Well, 15.03 The Rupture was rough, I mean I was giggling all over the place but apparently being gleeful to the extreme is how I react to drama in this show, and well other shows too. And make dumb jokes. I love dumb jokes, especially puns and wordplay. It doesn’t even have to be that witty, I’ll like it anyway. I like them so much, I sometimes make up game involving them. Will you play with me?
Part 4. Let’s Play a Game
There’s this fun part about knowing multiple languages, aside the usual perks, and that is getting the same thing twice with translations. A good translation, or even an adequate one, is something that tickles my fancy just the right way that I might chuckle about it years later. And I do, quite frequently in fact: last Sunday I spent an hour and a half reading the titles of Supernatural episodes in different languages. Just reading, chuckling about their wittiness, sensing patterns, and thinking that wait, wasn’t there already an episode with that name?
So, let’s play a game. The game is called What episode is this, and to play you first need a show that gives its episodes creative, flatout referential, often very punny or wordplay heavy, liberal titles that vary a great deal. Supernatural is excellent for this, Bob’s Burgers is great, Doctor Who might also work, and then maybe Futurama, as well as countless of other ones that maybe don’t take themselves too seriously. I can’t imagine one those alphabet crime shows that occasionally add a location to the title of the spin-off would have punny titles, but what do I know, I can’t even tell them apart. Secondly, go to Wikipedia, take up List of Supernatural episodes, pick a language other than English, and bravo, have fun for hours, maybe years if you’re anything like me. If you don’t know other languages, sucks to be you, learn one and carry on, or get friend who does, this is actually more fun with company. Unfortunately, looking at Wikipedia, there wasn’t that many other languages that had the episode titles translated, and I’m sure they exist but they are somewhere that is not just Wikipedia. But we’ll make do with what we have now.
Possible variations of this game, especially with other people involved, includes making it an actual game with maybe like a quiz format: options, hints, literal translations, providing additional context as clue, since some can be quite complex and since we’re obviously talking about Supernatural there’s 300+ episodes to choose from. So maybe keep the list of episodes next to you as well. Of course, it’s sometimes a bit hit or a miss, because if an episode is called Sin City, it’s probably always called Sin City, and sometimes they are just direct literal translations, with minor differences. However, the game can still be a lot of fun with the rest of the episodes. So let me give some examples, with some added reasoning why the answer is not always as obvious it first seems.
Example 1. Noita palaa elämään (Finnish) – The Witch comes back to life
Some context behind the name: Noita palaa elämään is a Finnish horror movie from 1952 which in the US if I recall correctly was distributed under the name The Witch. The only reason I’m excited about this title is because I’ve been obsessed with the film ever since I saw it, at around six or seven years old, and I re-enacted some of the scenes with my Barbies back in the day, and the imagery has seeped into my mind, well, at least the good magical parts have, but the rest is a bit hokey and weird. You can actually find it in Youtube, without subtitles, soz.
Anyway, there’s a lot of witches in Supernatural, Dean hates them, and some of them even come back to life, most notably Rowena who previously had her spell at least twice resurrect her. This episode is not about her, it’s from the time before Rowena, and the witch that supposedly comes back to life wasn’t even technically dead, though she is by the end of the episode. She is however, a very specific, well-known witch.
Answer: 9.04 Slumber Party
Example 2.  Jack (French)
The French translation has a very specific and repeating pattern of naming the episodes after characters or even monsters when it’s their first and sometimes only appearance. Like they can even be very insignificant, and yet, the episode is named after them. For example, and it amuses to me no end that there are episodes called Donatello (11.21 All in the Family), Rowena (10.05 Girls, Girls, Girls), and Maggie et Rose (2. 11 Playthings), as well as Le Shojo (7.20 Party on, Garth) or La Lamia (6.04 Weekend at Bobby’s), which weirdly enough only features in the episode basically as a passing mention. Following the French logic, an episode called Jack must be his first appearance, or maybe the second, I suppose.
Answer: 13.01 Lost and Found
Example 3. Das Licht der Finsternis (German) – The light of Darkness
Unlike the French, the German translation does not follow repeating naming patterns, with the exception of season 11, where the episodes featuring the Darkness, aka Amara, all include the word darkness or Die Finsternis in one form or other. Additionally there is an episode called just Die Finsternis, but that’s not in season 11, it’s actually the last episode of season 10, Brother’s Keeper, where the Darkness is released. Either way, the episode pool narrows down significantly, and based on rest of the name itself it’s possible to just guess which episode is in question.
Answer: 11.23 Alpha and Omega
So, the titles can be either obscure culture specific references that somehow relate to episode, follow some type of pattern, plainly obvious but somehow still puzzling, something that basically mean the same thing with slightly different wording. And then there’s false friends and all around weirdness I can’t quite explain.
If you don’t know, false friends in the field of linguistics means words or expressions in different languages that look the somewhat similar, and you might think they mean the same, but they are deceitful and mean something completely different. Like, how sensible in French is raisonnable but the French sensible means sensitive. This works somewhat with the episode titles as well. I mean they’re extreme deceitful.
Example 4. Façon Scooby-Doo (French) – The Scooby Doo way
One would think this is Scoobynatural. It is not. In fact, Scoobynatural is just called Scoobynatural. So let’s dig deeper. In Scooby Doo the villain is usually a person who covets something and in order to achieve disguises themselves as a monster of sorts. Again, this could fit with Scoobynatural, and quite a few other episodes, but the key is that the episode follows the way Scooby Doo episodes have been fashioned: the monster is not real, someone made it up, and it’s a person donning a suit. But it’s Supernatural so things get a lot worse.
Answer: 9.15 #Thinman
Example 5. Le Sacrifice (French)
It’s not 8.23 Sacrifice, which is called L'Arc de Cupidon, or the bow of Cupid, which was in the episode but had a comparatively minor role. Instead, this episode does have a sacrifice in it, but since this is Supernatural, there are sacrifices left right and centre, it should be noted that this is perhaps the first major sacrifice, the one that pretty much propels the rest of the series.
Answer: 2.01 In My Time of Dying
Example 6. Teuflischer Engel (German) – Devilish Angel
It not 11.18 Hell’s Angel, but there is an angel who does bad things pertaining to Hell. They also make others do bad things for them, and force Dean to live his past traumas. It doesn’t end well.
Answer: 4.16 On the Head of a Pin
Example 7. Quoi de neuf, docteur? (French) – What’s up, doc?
Yes, it’s the thing Bugs Bunny says. However, the French are funny, and this is the name of two different episodes, the one of which makes all the sense, and the other which makes no sense at all whatsoever. Well, actually, Dean says the line in the episode to a doctor of sorts, but that’s about it. Though the funny thing is, the French title is probably easier to say, even if you don’t speak French. Additionally, Quoi de neuf docteur is the French title for the series Growing Pains, but that’s irrelevant and I just wanted to point it out.
Answer: 8.08 Hunter Heroici and 13.05 Advanced Thanatology
You get the gist. It’s a fun game, and I didn’t present some of the other more obscure titles or the ones that are sort of the same but not. I genuinely don’t know if others find this as amusing as I do, but I wanted to share it anyway. I hope it gives at least the tiniest bit of joy. If not, tell me what games you play instead.

Things did not start out as I expected. I should have known better. This marriage was not like the magical tales I read as a child. I was finishing up my breakfast when Elise started to take the dishes away.
“Elise, do you know of my husband’s whereabouts?” I asked as an idea started to cook in my head.
“I know he’s supposed to be in the war council with your father, my lady,” she responded. Elise continued to clean up after me. Her blonde curls sometimes got in the way of her work. She was a little younger than I am. Her family has served mine for a century. All of the women were handmaidens to the queen and their daughters.
“Thank you, Elise,” I said. I sat back in my chair. “You don’t think they will be in that war council all day do you? They have to take a break at some point.”
“I suppose so.”
“Do me a favor, Elise. Go to the war council room and invite Loki to afternoon tea. If anyone asks why you are there, say it came from me. If they have an issue with it, they can take it up with me.” Elise nodded her head and headed off. As soon as she did, I headed towards the kitchens.
Walking through the halls, I noticed Loki’s men training alongside my men. They were trying to get along. My mother was right. These were ill-mannered men. I heard their crude jokes and mocking laughter. One of them pushed one of my men and a small fight started until Sir Petra separated them.
My mind drifted to last night.
“Sir Petra? For the past ten years, I believe? He came to my father with little on his back when I was a child. Why?” Loki narrowed his eyes at me.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I was there. Why is this so important?”
He thought I was lying to him. Why would Loki be so concerned about Sir Petra on our wedding night? Well, it wasn’t much of a wedding night. I kept walking. I could smell the fresh bread in the air. I was getting close. Servants and maids went in and out of the kitchen doors. Some nodding at me as I walked by, some were too busy to do so.
I was Lord Garth’s eldest, but the pressure to lead and be respected was never put on my shoulders. I smiled at them all anyways. One day, I will lead them. My father claimed I would know when and how to lead when it came time for that. My mother claimed I would lead through my husband.
I walked through the kitchen doors to see cooks chopping up vegetables and meat. From across the room, I could smell the broth that was cooking. Stew. Stew was tonight’s dinner. I shouldn’t get distracted by the food. I had a task to focus on, and it was getting hotter every second I was in here. Ovens and stoves seemed to be always on. The heat rose from them and stayed stagnant in the kitchen.
“Kyle, where’s Amelia?” I said to the small boy sitting next to a sack of potatoes. Little Kyle pointed to a very small, very frail woman who was placing fruit on a plate. I zigged-zagged my way to her, not wanting to disturb anyone or get in their way.
“Good morning, Amelia,” I smiled.
“What? I can’t hear you,” she said to me.
“Good morning, Amelia,” I said, louder this time.
“Ah, good morning, dear, what can I do for you?”
“I was wondering if you could serve something different for my afternoon tea today.”
“Different? Different how? You don’t like the small sandwiches?”
“No, no, no. I do. I do. I just want to do something different today. I’m expecting a guest, and I really want to impress him.”
“Him?”
“My new husband, Loki.” Amelia tilted her head back and laughed.
“Dear, you don’t need to impress him. He’s your husband. You have him.” Amelia never married, but she had small pearls of wisdom from day to day. “He’s already yours. He should be grateful for who he married. He could have married that Northern girl. What’s her name?”
“Bertha, you’re speaking of Bertha,” I said. Amelia had cooked for other royal families before. She was an old woman set in her old ways. She thought so little of northern girls who had a less than appealing appearance. I hadn’t seen Bertha in years, but she is a perfectly nice girl.
“What an ugly girl,” Amelia scoffed.
“Never mind about Bertha,” she was trying my patience. “I would still like to do something different.” It took some convincing, but I managed to get Amelia to see my way. As soon as I got back to my room, I asked my chambermaids to fetch the good tea set.
Before you get into Highgarden, there is a labyrinth you have to make your way through. To any castle-dweller, the winding twists and turns are easy. To any enemy, it is a nightmare. My father told me it took a particular enemy hours to get to the castle, and he had enough time to get everyone out.
It was inside this labyrinth that I had my sanctuary. Only my chambermaids and I know how to get there. They key was knowing where to turn and what color rose arch to go through. It was not truly my sanctuary, I had inherited it from my grandmother who had created it.
It was through an arch that had blue and yellow flowers. The first thing everyone noticed was the wooden lattice ceiling that had old vines hanging on strong to create a shade inside the outdoor room. A narrow and small table was set with the pure white tea set.
Behind the table was a long bench covered in pillows. When I was younger, my handmaidens would find me napping out here. The shade from the sun and the soft noises of the wind and birds made this sanctuary perfect for naps.
I sat down admiring my work. Amelia made the crab cakes I had requested. The tea was made from various herbs that made it light and fruitful to taste. All I did was wait for Loki. My father always appreciated when I invited him to tea. He told me it was always a lovely break from everything else in the world. I hoped Loki would feel the same.
I heard rustling and quiet footsteps. Elise walked through the floral arch with a half-smile with Frigga following her behind.
“Good afternoon, Cecilia,” she greeted me.
“Good afternoon, my lady,” I greeted back while looking behind her. “Where is Loki? Is he behind you?” Frigga took a deep breath and smiled.
“I’m afraid he is not coming. He received your invitation, but he didn’t want to leave you alone. He apologizes and sent me instead,” Frigga explained.
“Oh, I see,” I said. I looked down in shame. I felt a sharp blow in y stomach.
“This is a very lovely set. I would very much like to enjoy it with you,” Frigga quickly said. Frigga’s kindness helped offset the rejection I felt.
“I had my cook Amelia make crab cakes if you would like to enjoy them.”
“No thank you,” Frigga said. “Seafood never agreed with me.” I narrowed my eyes at her.
“But you’re married to Lord Odin,” I said. “I thought the people of Pyke enjoyed seafood.”
“They might, but I do not,” Frigga said. “Loki does enjoy seafood more than his brother. He always has, especially crab. He enjoyed taking the crab apart to find the satisfying meat at the end.”
“What else did Loki enjoy as a child?” I questioned, pouring myself and Frigga tea.
“Reading, and lots of it,” Frigga started. “As a child, Loki got frequent chills from the sea. Thor and his friends were bigger and tougher than he was. He always tried to keep up with them, but he would overdo it every time. When he was in recovery, he would spend his days in bed reading.”
I leaned towards Frigga. I did not have Loki, but I did have company.
: Loki’s POV:
This was harder than I thought it would be. I watched Lord Garth move pieces around the map in front of us. He was organized. My father never had a map of Westeros. He only battled with the sea. Lord Garth’s map including every mountain, forest, and pond imaginable in Westeros.
Other men spoke amongst themselves about where to go, the weak spots, the strong spots, and where to find more men. Fandral sat next to me, just as overwhelmed and tired as I was.
I half-expected the war council room to be small and dark like the one in Pyke. This room was large and spacious. More than 20 men paced around giving their opinions and ideas left and right. It was maddening. Planning this rebellion did not require every man’s say.
Some of them claimed I was too young for war. Garth knew better than that though. He asked for my opinion on taking some men to the Twins, and I agreed with him. One of his men argued that it would be a bad move. It was frustrating. It was annoying.
My father sent me here knowing that I would be in the company of intelligent men. This was not an organized group. It was a zoo. I rolled my eyes and at the chaos. This rebellion was already a mess. The King himself could find us and kill us all if he wanted.
If Lord Garth and I could have to ourselves, he could see that taking the Twins would be a good idea for us. I wanted to sack as many cities as we could. The less control Malekith had, the better chances for us to take the nine kingdoms.
I thought about Cecilia and her invitation. I should have accepted it. I married her less than a day ago, and here I am surrounded by arguing men who don’t approve it when I tell them they are wrong. I should be with Cecilia.
She seemed to be kind. Her essence was infectious. More people paid attention to her happiness and joy last night. Barely anyone looked or said anything to me. I did not mind. I was not disappointed when I first saw her. Then again, who would be? She was stunning and charming. She would be a good wife. I should be with her.
Then my mind went back to her.
“You and I both know you couldn’t have bedded Lia if you tried.” Fandral said as we approached the war room. “She’s still on your mind, isn’t she? The other girl?”
She was not the other girl. She was my girl. She was where home was. She was alone and heartbroken while I am here, fighting a rebellion. I didn’t choose to leave her there. I thought about taking her with me.
Maybe I could have a lover, but Odin put a stop to that before the idea became to fruition. My mother would never approve of it anyways. My mother did approve of Cecilia. I loved Frigga as much as my brother did, but I cursed her the day she told me of the arranged marriage.
“Loki,” Lord Garth called out to me. I approached the impressive wooden map.
“Your father is headed—
“North. He wants to rally the Jotun to our side, but he is being cautious. The Jotun and the Dark Elves have a strong alliance. However, sources told my father that may change soon.” I announced to the room.
“Fourteen boys,” Lord Garth shook his head. “He took fourteen boys from them. Gods know what is happening to them.” The room silenced. Malekith had a hand in many kidnappings across Westeros, but taking fourteen Jotun boys purely for fighting was the tipping point.
“That is why we must agree and take action now,” Sir Petra said behind me. He stepped in front of me, pushing me back. My left hand formed a fist. Fandral grabbed it and shook his head. He mouthed the words: Not worth it. There was something about him. Something oddly familiar I couldn’t place my finger on.
“If we head to the Twins, we could meet with Thor and the rest of House Anker there. We could have a strong force to head North with your father.”
“No, my father is already on his way with a small group. He is afraid if he shows up with his army then the Jotun will see it as a threat or an attack,” I continued. “My father wished for the northern and western country to unite to take on the south and the east.”
“It’s a stupid move to go with a small group to Winterfell to the Jotun. House Laufey is a proud house,” Sir Petra said to me.
“A proud house that just had the young taken from them,” Lord Garth added. He looked at me. “It is wise your father does this now with a small group to avoid trouble and detection. Your brother, on the other hand, does not know how to stay quiet.”
I heard Fandral chuckle behind me. I tried not to laugh. Thor was known for his loud personality and glorious parties. Father should have stayed with him to keep him in line.
“I love my brother, but I agree he can be a fool,” I said. “What are you suggesting?”
“House Anker and Thor need our help. They do not know of this wedding, but they know of his. Once word is sent to King Malekith, he will respond. Our focus should be to defend Casterly Rock.” Lord Garth continued. I tried to pay attention, but it was no good.
I thought of Thor. How happy he must be with his new wife. Thor went from girl to girl, never giving his heart away completely. How fortunate Thor and Sif must be, to be so happy and in love.
It wasn’t fair. I had everything I ever wanted in my arms, and she was taken away from only to be replaced with—
I shouldn’t say awful things about Cecilia. I didn’t know her. This wasn’t her fault. That would not be fair to her. I thought about her kind invitation again, and I felt low. She was only trying to be kind to me. She was my wife. I shouldn’t be thinking of past lovers. I should be with Cecilia.
But I need to be here with Garth’s men and my men. I have to be stuck in this room with them. This rebellion will not fight itself.
