In a couple days I’m giving my power point party presentation ranking characters (worst to best) from S1 of Arcane at friendsmas. Here tumblr, please enjoy a sneak preview.
Tumblr media
LMAO I usually hate presenting/public speaking but I’m so HYPED for this presentation.
Enjoy my #1 slide (I’m sure to no one’s surprised who follows me. There’s a slide before this next one that is literally a collage of Viktor photos lmao.)
Tumblr media
I’m literally getting time to hyperfixate and speak about Arcane uninterrupted. It’s perfect. (Lol happy to share more of my slides if people want me to.)

Had to do it twice because somehow Caitlyn would up 14 on my first try (I must've clicked once thinking it said Cassandra or something??). This result is much better.
Arcane Favorite Character Sorter by @melmedarda
Tumblr media
No surprises on my top 5 after the show ended. I fr couldn't choose between Cait and Vi LMAO.
Also, I never knew I loved Steb and Kino this much HAHA. I think them over Jayce, Vik and Sev is debatable.
Everyone should do this bias picker too! It's very fun! Thank you Gentle for making this ❤️

There is a theory that the way children play serves as a means to simulate and prepare them for the tasks they'll take on as adults. So for all the narrative weight both Jinx and the story give the boxing machine at the arcade it would never have prepared her or the kids to take on Piltover.
Tumblr media
What are the two things that Piltovans excel at over their Zaunite counterparts to keep the hierarchy? Weapons and technological development.
Tumblr media
When you look at the way Piltovans invest in their children, they don't prioritize hand to hand/melee combat training. Piltovans focus on giving their children experiences in handling firearms, a pursuit that is both leisure sport for the wealthy and a key offense against dissenting Zaunites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And from the show notes even Jayce, whose family occupies the upper middle class, was sent on educational excursions across Runeterra to explore the world and learn what it had to offer. Without Jayce's education abroad he would never have been inspired to pursue the concept hextech.
It's no wonder that the two figures that are set to be Piltover's biggest threats from Zaun are Jinx and Viktor, becasue they engaged in the same kinds of games and activities as their Piltovan counterparts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jinx didn't have an entire forest preserved to help her practice her sharpshooting like the high houses of Piltover, but she did excel in the few games at The Rift (the arcade) that built on her talents. She's the only Zaunite thus far who's long distance offensive is a strong counter to Piltover's forces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Viktor couldn't travel the world like Jayce did, but for better or worse he managed to stumble into an opportunity to get real opportunity in research not offered to his peers through Singed. It was through that experience that Viktor knew to turn to Singed when he was at the end of his rope, and the consequences of that will be fully realized in season 2.
Tumblr media
Ironically, the kind of skill the boxing game champions is only good for keeping other Zaunites in line. Vander's days of fighting Piltover were way behind him when we first met him, and Vi spends season 1 primarily fighting other Zaunites. It's no surprise the Zaunites who embody the old ideal of strength in Zaun that the game portrays, Vi and Vander, are largely at the mercy of Piltover and end up collaborating with them to avoid further harm.
Zaun's future as an independent city-state couldn't happen if they stuck to their old ideals. The people who stand a chance against Piltover are the ones that not only succeed but excel at playing Piltover's games against them.

Top Six Arcane Characters ranked in reverse-order of how much silly fucking nonsense they have to put up with throughout the runtime of the show
6. Cassandra Kiramman (daughter became a cop [I'm so sorry girl], daughter randomly goes missing for several days and breaks into her own house shot in the leg with a fucking homeless lesbian, gets killed by Zaun literally four seconds after being convinced to grant them sovereignty, and if there is an afterlife she had to watch her daughter crash out spectacularly using her very own initiative to gas the poor. Embarrassing.)
5. Ekko (every single Topsider he meets is next-level stupid and he has to hold their hand like a baby even when they are a literal genius. Had to watch Cait say "The enforcers aren't oppressing you guys that's not true :( !!" with a straight face, had to watch Jayce say "Oh yeah we put the hexgate here so that if it blew up it would only release dangerous arcane-gamma rays upon YOUR people so nobody who actually matters would die" with a straight face, had to find out the founder of the city that oppressed him his entire life was literally just a stupid old man with a banjo, Jesus fucking Christ. He is low on this list because of the amount of silly nonsense he subjected other people to, especially in the AU. Also he threw a time-machine bomb at God which wasn't so much something that happened to him but felt worth mentioning)
4. Jayce Talis (literally on a constant mission to keep his very fragile partner from killing himself through sheer scientific negligence and is consistently thwarted by either Viktor's impulsivity, the narrative, or him-fucking-self. Had to go to the shadow realm while Heimer and Ekko partied in Utopia playing the banjo and dancing to silly little songs and the first person he has the absolute misfortune to see when he gets back is fucking Salo I would kill myself)
3. Mel Medarda (practically runs a counsel full of idiots twice her age at like 25, himbo situationship's twink almost dies every time they try to fuck, has to deal with her mother ravaging twinks with her eyes right in front of Mel's salad, got kidnapped by witches for literally no reason)
2. Silco (Girldad who somehow, despite being one of the least mentally hinged people in the undercity, has an even less hinged daughter who so regularly blows things up and kills people that he scolds her about it as though she'd just snuck out past curfew. Has to work with a gaggle of dumbasses to produce and distribute his sterocainoin I mean Shimmer who regularly plot to kill him but are legitimately too stupid and useless to pull it off, his factory got randomly busted up and a bunch of his employees killed by an angry twenty-something with pink hair and also The Guy From The Fucking Posters [imagine Niel DeGrasse Tyson and a twenty-two year old homeless lesbian blow up your job like tell me you wouldn't have a stroke] and had to deal with a TREMENDOUS amount of nonsense in the AU where Ekko out of nowhere reminds him of his Most Traumatic Memory Ever and also the founder of Piltover blows up and his teenage stepkid is the only one who saw it happen.)
1. Sevika (Literally cannot ever catch a break for one second. Just wanted to help Zaun be free from Piltover and gets absolutely bodied by one or the other of Felicia and Connol's cursed fucking daughters every other episode in season 1, loses a combined total of like four??? arms, is forced to clean up the typically VERY bloody messes of her boss's unhinged daughter because he's such a pookie-wookie that he refuses to discipline her in any way, becomes the unwilling parent of two (2) mentally ill orphans, is subjected to Jinx's constant jokes at the expense of her missing arm (which Jinx is responsible for, by the way) gets given a political position as some form of shitty reparation when she is NOT a politician she is the guy who backs up the revolutionaries like miss girl just wanted to gamble punch people and fuck whores can you let her live her life??? Is one of the few people to survive and probably hates every minute of it)

Honestly it's not that surprising that Jayvik swept ao3 this year. They pretty much did a speed run of Destiel: A disaster bisexual with ADHD and an anxiety problem meets a mononymic, gay, autistic celestial being/trans allegory and they pine for each other a lot, go through a sad divorce era, and everyone but the network thinks they should have been allowed to kiss in the finale.

Can someone please explain to me what the enforcers Do. Like I was under the impression that they were the police force. So why the hell were they fighting in the war? Does Piltover not have an army? Are their police force and their military the same thing? Are you telling me each individual enforcer is trained both in police/investigative procedure AS WELL AS military tactics and strategy? 1) how the fuck do they have the time to invest THAT MUCH into each enforcer. 2) how fucking long is the training, especially considering how quickly Caitlyn joined the force 3) are you telling me the chief of police and the army general are the same thing? Are you telling me MARCUS was a trained tactician? A GENERAL?
Even if you argue they're all incompetent- are you telling me the Councilors were willingly paying what was probably exorbitant amounts of money to have a WEAK and ILL-TRAINED MILITARY? it's one thing for them to poorly train a bunch of cops, and maybe even carelessly allow a bunch of barely trained, "mindless gruntwork" soldiers- but eventually, the more they rise into the ranks, the more they'll have to scrutinize their skill. Are you saying their enforcers are structured like a standing army? Are you saying those pompous fucks wouldn't care if their military was actually capable of protecting them or not? How have they never been invaded before? How are they still around?!

okay i know we all write jayvik vampire aus where viktor is the vampire, because have you seen his face, BUT
have we considered vampire piltover v human zaun where jayce is trying to invent a sufficient blood replacement for vampires to drink instead of killing zaunites, and viktor is an already anemic zaunite who immediately supports jayce's project the SECOND he hears about it because if one more of these literally bloodsucking bourgeois bitches tried to take away his already struggling red blood cells. let's just say jayce's apartment wouldn't be the only thing on fire
anyway so because they need blood to test and he's a good friend, jayce talis becomes the first ever vampire to decide he maybe likes getting bit. this isn't bc nobody else has tried it, jayce is just weird

{ @qin-qin16, @averageimp. The post I was talking about. }
Had a random thought while scrolling through the arcane tag but the way some caitvi shippers hate on Maddie for “getting in the way of caitvi” instead of also hating Caitlyn (both cait and Maddie, but I feel there’s a lot better reasons to dislike Maddie outside of “ruining” a relationship that was hardly even a relationship like Cait wasn’t equally as willing and responsible—such as ya know, being an indoctrinated seemingly sadistic spy helping a military force invade and conquer another nation) for—
not only choosing to sleep with and share her bed with another woman while the one who she supposedly “loves” is being beaten in a pit for money and drinking herself half to death,
But also using her power and authority and money and position to oppress and abuse the people of Zaun instead of helping them or even using all those resources to look for Vi and apologize or some shit,
Also abusing her power over Maddie. Maddie introduced herself to Vi as a “junior officer.”
Caitlyn is a Commander/Sheriff. She is Maddie’s commander. She is Maddie’s superior. Now I don’t know if the Enforcers would be considered more like the police force or the military, maybe both, but I think this could be considered Fraternization and an abuse of her power.
Now we all know that it turns out Maddie is a Noxus spy and her superior is actually Ambessa, but Caitlyn doesn’t know this. She believes she has power, authority, and rank over Maddie. She believes Maddie is her subordinate.
Caitlyn abuses her power and authority in more ways than one, and if Maddie weren’t a Noxus spy and Ambessa wasn’t buddy buddy with Caitlyn, Caitlyn could’ve very well ruined Maddie’s life and career if she so chose to do so on a whim,
Not to mention: Maddie’s whole spy gig wouldn’t have worked at all if Caitlyn weren’t so eager to abuse her authority and sleep with her subordinates.
Between Maddie and Vi, maybe Cait has a thing for women who are of less power and privilege than her—or at least women she views that way. Or maybe she just truly is that blind and ignorant of the power and privilege she has, or perhaps she just doesn’t care.
Regardless, it’s a little strange. Caitlyn is a full grown woman who has enough power to declare martial law and a warlord of another nation and her forces behind her. Maddie is a junior officer, who Cait does not know is actually a spy.
She is perfectly okay with the knowledge of this, and felt it was perfectly okay to allow a relationship with someone below her in rank and status and authority.
This sets up an inherent power dynamic where, in a more realistic world or if the writers had acknowledged this/Maddie hadn’t been a spy, she very well could’ve been at a risk of being fired or discharged from her job if she ever decided she didn’t want to sleep with her Boss anymore; even if the reason is as simple as Cait doesn’t want to take the risk of Maddie telling anyone and getting her in trouble.
Or, considering the fact that Cait had the power to declare martial law and is basically a dictator, could potentially have Maddie executed and claim it was for reasons such as “treason” or “being a traitor,” regardless of if it’s actually true or not in this scenario. Because Cait has so much power that her word is basically law, especially when compared to Maddie’s.
All in all, Maddie only “got in the way of caitvi” because Cait allowed her to and actively refused to use her massive manpower and resources to go look for Vi and make things up with her for months on end—instead wasting that time oppressing the lower class, hunting down and obsessing over Jinx, training with Ambessa, and using her subordinate’s body for her own gain while also acting cold and dismissive towards her once she got what she wanted for the day.

I've been ranking magical schools to see which is the best school.
Criteria for the ranking:
Do the teachers care about the students?
Are there any evil teachers (if yes, immediate loss of points)?
Are the students prepared for the world that they live in? Do they have experience before they get on adventures, do the classes teach them how to be heroes, or is there a solid job market and the school teaches them how to succeed and follow the rules of the world
Is the school safe? Are there precautions in place to protect the students?
How many students die each year?
What I don't look at:
Diversity of the school. The school can teach a certain type of magic and only allow in certain people and not lose points.
Meddling students. If the students go off on their own and meddle, and then they get hurt, the school does not lose points for that.
Does not looking at the moral quality of what they are learning, if they are taught how to survive in the world, even if the school is a morally corrupt world the school will be ranking high for what it is expected to do within the society.
My Ranking:
The Magic School Bus
Scholomance
Assassination Classroom
Royal Prep Academy from Sofia the First
My Hero Academia
Hexside: The Owl House
Augfort Adventuring Academy
Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters X-Man School
Jean Gray Institute for Higher Learning
Ninth House
Winx School
Shiz University from Wicked
Unicorn Academy
Wiztech from wizards of Waverly Place
The School for Good and Evil
Every Heart a Doorway
Hogwarts
Gowpenny Academy of Arcane Arts
Forth Wing War College
Camp Half Blood
JJK
Massachusetts Bay Academy from X-Men

okay, it is kind of pissing me off when people insist Vi went with the Enforcers because she wanted to join them and side with Piltover and move up in society, and not because it was the only vehicle available for her to go after Jinx and solve the problem she created
(also, Vi does not want to kill her sister: she is driven by guilt. Vi feels she has a duty to stop further destruction and death from the monster she thinks she created. Jinx told Vi that her sister is gone and only Jinx, the monster, remains, and Vi believed her. After s2ep3, I don't think either of them believe that anymore)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vi still detests the Enforcers. You can plainly see on her face (and through her words!) that she does not want to be there. She just wants to get this over with.
if anything, Vi was trying to support Caitlyn, who is one of the only familiar things she has in her life at this moment. Her family is dead, she thinks her sister is gone, and the Undercity is barely recognizable to her - but Caitlyn was there. So, Vi took a gamble on sticking with Caitlyn, the seemingly sweet girl from Piltover who has sympathy for the Undercity, sees Vi's good heart, and helped Vi when she didn't need to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vi resigned herself to join Cait's enforcers, compromising her morals, hoping to be a positive influence. But the second she made a decision for herself, the second she stopped Cait from shooting a child, Caitlyn discarded her
she's lost, trying to find her footing wherever she can. Vi has been scrambling to attach herself to any scrap of familiarity since escaping Stillwater, and now she's left alone, in the dark, again
